Have tried other dehumidifiers (cheaper) but have all started to leak after 2-3 months, this one so far, so good. Like the fact has about double the capacity of previous units, means have to empty every other day as opposed to once a day but is a bit weighty when removing and pouring could do with a better design.
Tip: Turn machine OFF before removing/emptying water container otherwise tends to drip if left on. Once emptied and container replaced, turn back on. Overall, this machine feels more substantial than previous and so far performs well hence ‘Best I’ve Tried’.

we have had this now for a few weeks and we are delighted with it.
our council bungalow suffers from damp and we have the thing on 24/7 and it purifys the air and removes a lot of moisture from the air which means we empty it every 2 to 3 days.
The sound is bearly audible and the cat is perfectly fine with it even from day one never seeing anything like it the device didnt even make much noise at all sept for the little sound alarm in it that rings to let you know when its full and needs emptying.

Only had the Meaco 20L dehumidifier 2 weeks and it is proving invaluable.
It does everything it says on the tin!
Very pleased. I would thoroughly recommend this product.

I was sceptical about just how much humidity this could pull out of the air, I shouldn’t have been. We noticed mold in the corner of our bedroom and wall paper peeling in November 2021. Bought the Meaco 20L and have run it every few days, left for a day it fills the tank which is crazy. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Easy to move around. Handles a 2 bed bungalow cottage no problem. Not loud. I like the air filter only function. Good for pollen in the summer.

Overall I’m delighted with this product and it has done exactly what I needed it to do. I live in a listed building where I have a curved metal window. It’s impossible to secondary glaze and I’m not allowed to remove it. The frame had always been a condensation trap which during the winter runs with water causing black mould to the plaster surrounding it. This product has solved the problem in its entirety and i have zero condensation now. It’s a neat unit, easy to move and operate. One small issue is that sometimes it vibrates and the noise can be irritating but i find popping a wedge under one corner solves the problem. Overall i would not be without it.

Good dehumidifier, but came with black marks on top, customer service said you have to clean it yourself, but I tryed and it non removable. Very unhappy, expect to receive new item without any marks, and is pretty expensive, not cheap, If I pay for good quality thing it should be without any marks

very good product but bad service

We bought a Meaco 20L Dehumidifier on a Which Best Buy recommendation and having trialled an alternative. I couldn’t be more pleased with the product. It was originally bought to prevent damp and mould in an old property and completely sorted the issue. Having moved house, we’ve gone on to use it as a low energy alternative to a tumble dryer and it’s been brilliant. A very well designed and made product from great British company. It may be made in China (like your iPhone and most of the quality electrical items you own) but Meaco is a top end brand and thoroughly recommended.

I am really glad that I purchased this item, it has helped me out no end. I noticed the difference within hours. The only downside I have found is that it costs more per hour than the other write ups advise but on the other hand gets my washing dry without the use of a tumble drye

An excellent dehumidifier, we empty ours almost every day, we knew condensation was an issue but cannot believe the amount of water drawn into the machine!
Excellent value for money, no longer having to dry down inside wet windows every morning, and yes, we do keep the windows open/air slots open all year round.

Easy to use, only been on for 2 days but first night extracted around 3 ltrs of moisture, we have it in our conservatory next to the bedroom, slight humming noise could be heard, and that is with the bedroom window open, so did not affect sleep at all, simple to empty just pull out the bucket and empty in to sink, we have a large conservatory and the walls are brick, it’s a single skinned wall with no ventilation, sliding glass doors and 2 large windows to the side, all get full of condensation and the walls get black mould, hopefully not any more, first morning no condensation and none since using if this carries on…. Great product.

Bought this product to remove damp from our new bungalow, as soon as we switched it on it started to remove gallons of water!!! Added the Hepa filter and every room now smells much better and much healthier. Selected the Meaco product for it quality and energy efficiency .
Brilliant for drying washing, we get very little condensation on the windows, wife loves it.
Home feels much warmer and we have had to turn the heating down

I had a cheap dehumidifier, bought this one and noticed a big difference. My old one was 170w but would be on all night and couldn’t get the humidity to 55% ever, this one’s obviously a bit more but goes down to my set humidity at 55% within a hour or two then switches off automatically! And check the room humidoty every half hour to see if it needs to switch back on Saving a lot of power, use it to dry my clothes, it’s a lot quieter than my other one also. Only thing I will say is it is pretty heavy but has wheels on them. It’s so brilliant. Would strongly recommend

Only having it a couple of weeks hard to say what the energy efficiency is going to be like but as a unit its self really impressed, working wonders drying the washing this time of year and great in taking the moisture out of the rooms also the air feels alot fresher as well, so to sum it up so far cannot complain with the unit as a good dehumidifier.

Overall very pleased with this dehumidifier. This is my first dehumidifier so can’t compare it with anything. It’s far from silent but it didn’t really stop me from sleeping. Works well but the only complaint is that the humidity level shown on the display is way out. For example, it might show the current level to be 57 when my hygrometer is displaying 45. But as I rely on my trusted hygrometer, this doesn’t bother me. I would recommend this product.

While I can’t confirm the energy efficiency as I don’t have a smart meter nor understand the calculations but that is one of the reasons I bought this particular model. It is certainly extracting the water out of the atmosphere, is quiet and very portable to move between rooms and due to it’s size, quite unobtrusive. So far it is operating as described and I am very pleased with the purchase of this model. Controls are relatively straightforward.

This Meaco is a great dehumidifier as it’s on wheels, no heavy lifting. The flap automatically opens when switched on (unlike the smaller one) and the collection box has a handle (unlike the smaller one)
I have one upstairs which I bought a three years and this 2nd one bought to use downstairs. Don’t go for the smaller one.

The machine did an amazing job of drying out a pretty damp unheated room in a few days. It was a bit noisier than I had expected, but given its efficiency, it is only a small niggle.
I have tried two other machines but this was, by far, absolutely superior.

I found the directions for setting up a bit difficult although with my old technology brain ,due to my age that is not a surprise!.I want it for helping to dry my washing during the Winter. But once my son had set it up and explained it to me I found it is very simple to use,and indeed most efficient at extracting the water. It is perhaps a little noisy, but although I do live in a small cottage kthst is not a problem.

This is a real beauty. The windows are clear and the carpet feels dry between my toes. Medium sized two bed flat for reference. So worth the money, don’t buy them basic ones for 50 quid, they don’t work!

We unfortunately found a damp patch in the bedroom but we knew it wasn’t a leak and decided to give a Dehumidifier a go..
What a revelation !!! We turn it on every day for 12hrs and we empty between 1/2 & a full container of water..There is no condensation on window ledges after a cold night and would really recommend this product, plus the damp patch has gone..The only down side is it’s really quite noisy…If we didn’t have one where is the water going?

I bought this unit in 2015 and it has lasted ever since. It has done a great job during that time for the various reasons I have needed it, from drying clothes in a small back room, to drying out newly spread plaster on walls. In winter it is powerful enough to keep the condensation away upstairs and not loud enough to be bothersome. I don’t often review things but I made an effort to do so with the item; and I highly recommend this product.

Water had been running down the windows every morning. Now they are dry. Humidity throughout the has has been significantly reduced. It is big and heavy and a bit noisy when the fan is full on but, of the four dehumidifier I have bought, this is the first to actually do a complete job on the whole house.

It works well and extracts plenty of moisture.
It’s a little noisy, but as expected.
Our house is large and has a lot of moisture in the air (especially in the kitchen and bathroom areas). It’s only gone below 60% once in several weeks of usage, and I’ve never had to empty it more than twice per day.
I would say the ‘up to 20L per day’ in the specification is fake marketing bull, we have plenty of moisture and it’s never extracted more than 10L per 24 hours of constant use (without the extra filter). So wondering if the smaller one would have produced the same results, and if the bigger one would have been a waste.
Overall very happy with it though.

We have only had this for four days so this is an early review, but the difference it has made so far as been astounding.

We have problems with mould in the bedroom of our flat, and when we turned the dehumidifier on, our humidity level was 81%. Since running it day and night for these first few days, the humidity has gone down to 62% and the amount of water this thing collects is crazy. We went for the 12L as we don’t mind emptying the tank, if that’s something that bothers you perhaps go for a bigger model – but I’d say it’s a good thing to be emptying the tank frequently as it shows it’s doing it’s job.

With regards to noise, the machine does give off a constant hum, but that is to be expected on any dehumidifier worth your time probably. It doesn’t bother us sleeping in the same room as the machine at night and actually it works well as white noise for me.

It’s pretty heavy, but the sturdy carry handle makes this much easier. As long as you don’t have any issues with your back/ lifting, it will be absolutely fine to move around.

I suffer quite severe asthma and allergies, and this morning was the first morning in a long time that I woke up not coughing and wheezing, so if you’re an allergy sufferer with high humidity in your house I highly recommend this. We haven’t even tried the air purifier function yet, but it goes to show how much allergens high humidity alone can cause without you even realising.

Well worth the money spent, and I have a lot of faith in this sturdy little machine even though it’s early days!

Pleasantly surprised how quiet this machine is. It arrived yesterday, took it out the box, let it stand for four hours as per the instructions (to let the refrigerant settle) and then set it going. Extremely easy to set up, contains very helpful instructions. Left it overnight and in the morning it was still going and had a tank almost full of water. Humidity had only gone down a small amount – but it’s in a very damp, large cellar and it’s going to take quite a bit of time to dry it out fully. It had taken away the musty smell overnight, and it felt slightly warmer down there. So, so, so happy with this purchase! Glad I wasn’t scared off by the bad review at the top of the list, which was clearly written by someone who’d owned it a very long time and never cleaned it!!

I must admit I had never heard of this brand, but the Which? Seal of approval was enough for me to take a chance on this. We have had an Ebac previously, which was noisy and I found the lady in customer service rather rude. We have emptied the machine 6 times already, and our doors are starting to fit the frames again. So this was louder than I expected unfortunately which meant I couldn’t leave it on overnight as it would keep me up, and it scares my cat it’s so loud. It works and brings down the humidity which was needed as I live near the sea so the air is very wet making the chance of mould rather high.

It is rather heavy to move around and typically I have it downstairs in the front room or upstairs hallway depends on which plug sockets are free at the time

Does not extract the moisture as well as the 25l. Mine broke down and it’s impossible to get a spare motor so had to buy another . Not environmentally friendly repair wise

  34. Anonymous says:

Very impressed with how quick it extracts moisture from the air and all while being fairly quiet (I’ve had no problem sleeping with it on and right beside me)

Only downside to it, is it blows out warm air when in dehumidification mode, so not the best for removing humidity on a hot summers day, unless you have air conditioning.

Also would of liked for it to have a more powerful airflow even if only when used in air purifier mode, but I suppose that would of made it noisier.

I’d definitely recommend it tho if your ok with the minor faults I mentioned above and your looking for a dehumidifier with air purifier filters you can install for it to use while in dehumidifier mode (one included in box and I brought a pack of three spare on here for 30, yes three for that price, when my blue air purifier charges 25 per filter).

This is absolutely brilliant for drying clothes faster and much cheaper than using my dryer. I don’t know how I managed without it before. It is easy to use and has been reliable. It cuts off if the water tank is full. I gave 4 stars on moving it around as I would find it a bit heavy to carry upstairs but I can do it. Highly recommend

Much improved over our previous dehumidifier (different brand). Relatively quiet operation, it’s not silent, but there are no humming sounds (as our previous dehumidifier was prone to) more the sound of a powerful fan. Seems to draw a lot of moisture from the air and has done a good job of keeping a large 5 bed house below 50% humidity.

My last unit was 20 years old and ran out of gas. It use to extract 5 liters per WEEK. Replaced with the 20 LE and in the fist two days, only operating for 12 hours per day, extracted 2 liters a day. My house, a 60 year old bungalow, very high up, very exposed needs all the extraction it can get. Day three only extracted 1.3 Ltrs, so I have to assume that the house is less humid as a result. Take no notice of the digital display that reads a very low humidity, this is the level at the output of the 20 LE and does not give a true room value. Overall very impressive.

After considering a number of dehumidifiers, I went for the Meaco based on very good reviews, and I am not disappointed at all. This has really brought very high damp levels under control quickly and is proving to be a real workhorse. Having said that, a couple of things to bear in mind. First, the weight – this is a heavy machine, not one for frequent moving from room to room, but find a good spot to leave it and it’s good enough to dehumidify an average house. Second – the Hepa filters would be quite costly to replace regularly so I am using this without one at the moment; I just wonder if the basic filter is fine enough to not let too much dust through to accumulate inside the machine. Nevertheless, this machine is doing a very good job at the moment and seems robust enough to last for a few years (hopefully).

This dehumidifier replaced an Ebac 6000 which had had to be returned at manufacturer twice so decided to go for a different a,e when it finally gave up the ghost after 4 or5 years. I am delighted with the Meal, it comes fitted with castors and a handle as standard which makes it much easier to move about. The air outlet is at the top of the machine with a moving airflow direction flap, which is ideal if you have to dry washing indoors, obviously on an airer near it not on the dehumidifier. It does produce some noise, as any machine with a fan will, but I don’t find it obtrusive. After a couple of months use I am delighted with the Meac, it is doing all I would want and definitely controls the condensation.

Expensive but maybe that’s what you pay to get the job done. It is efficient in reducing the humidity, which this house needed. Also another sign for us needing one was the sight of condensation running down the windows In our large north facing bays in the lounge and main bedroom each morning.
It does the job, but it is bulky and heavy, the wife leaves it to me to take it up or down the stairs. It’s quiet, especially on the lower fan setting.

  47. Paolo Vidali says:

This has in a few days already proved very effective at reducing the humidity in our large 4 bedroom house in wettest Wales. The previous owners had stupidly blocked up fireplaces without properly venting them which resulted in damp and condensation problems. The dehumidifier has rectified this thankfully. When we moved in the bedroom windows were absolutely covered with condensation in the morning’s but after running this for just one night that never happened again. It’s filling the tank once or twice a day. That’s the good bit….

The bad bit is the noise. It’s certainly not quiet. It’s obtrusively loud and sounds like you’re on an aeroplane. It has two fan speeds but there’s really not much difference between them. It remains on almost constantly. But as I say, it’s doing a fantastic job so we live with the noise.

Oh my god what a difference this machine has made to our lives.
Last year we moved into a new house with a terrible heating system and as a consequence we suffered really badly with black mould literally covering the walls in two rooms due to condensation.
We bought this machine and ran it constantly for a few weeks which reduced our humidity levels from 87% to around 50%.
Not only has it completely stopped our condensation but we have no mould and the house is generally warmer by around 3-4 degrees.
We were totally miserable in our new house last year and now it’s a completely different place.
Our heating bills have reduced by 25% so this will have paid for itself within 5-6 months.
I cannot thank Meaco enough. You have literally changed our lives.

I love this machine and am very happy that I bought it! I had so much condensation in my house on the windows that every morning in winter I had to mop it up with lots of kitchen roll! I had tried lots different ways to prevent it and nothing seemed to work! I’ve now been using my dehumidifier for about a week and I have NO condensation! Its amazing! The machine is easy to move because it has a handle and wheels although it is a bit heavy to carry upstairs. When its on it sounds like a fan. On full it is slightly noisy but its like background noise and my kids like the sound when they go to sleep! I cant comment yet on energy efficiency because I’ve not had it long! But it is called a Low Energy machine! Although initially its quite expensive- i really think its worth the money especially for a 3-5 bedroom house!

Bought this as I was constantly battling with condensation and mould in my house and was hoping it would help.
When I turned it on it showed humidity level 92%. After a week it went down to 54-62%. It’s downstairs for overnight and upstairs during the day, usually have to empty twice a day. I got it a month ago. Before that in the cold season, window frames, double-glazed windows, garden doors were covered with a dense layer of condensation. Humidity did not fall below 70%. At a house temperature of 22 and an initial humidity of 75%, the dehumidifier collected ~ 3-4 liters of water per not full day opearting, which approximately corresponds to the declared characteristics. Indoor humidity has dropped to 57%. The temperature outside is +5. Windows, doors, toilet cistern are dry now. In terms of noise: at an acceptable level. You can hear that the device is functioning, but not annoying. Especially considering the benefits it brings. Also liked the build quality and materials. I am only uncertain about humidity in built meter. It shows different figures from professional meter. But may be it is humidity inside of the machine.
It is not heavy and has handle to carry.
    I would give 4.5 stars.

I had looked at other makes but went with this as it was reviewed highly by which magazine.
The machine is very easy to use and easy to move as it has wheels.
It’s amazing how much water it draws out of the air. The house was feeling damp and a musty smell with condensation build up. Received it on Saturday and by Tuesday the house didn’t feel damp any more and the smell has gone. We did use over night and It didn’t interfer with sleep (just like having a fan on in the summer). We now leave it on the continuous setting and it shuts off automatically when the chosen level is reached.

Like: very quiet for power involved: energy saving (switches off on reaching set humidity for a time delay, then tries again in case the humidity has risen:) portability (stout carrying handle and castor wheels.)
Not so good: emptying the reservoir: it doesn’t pour very neatly: start outside or bath/shower tray, with practice, kitchen sink or loo. (Tip: it is easier if you empty it before it is completely full.)
Achilles heel: the power lead. If you keep the unit in one place, you won’t have a problem but portability was a selling point for me. The lead is flexible but not the sort you would find on a corded vacuum cleaner or portable power tool and is not suitable for repeated flexing, made worse by lack of cable support where the lead exits the casing. One of the conductors broke within the insulation at this point – but I was moving it three times a day.

This works far better than an older one of a similar size, for the first time I could see the humidity fall below 59 percent in our old property, took out more water, quicker. The noise level is ok on high and reasonable on low. For me the HEPA filter is a game changer, it has already reduced the dust levels after less than a weeks intermittent operation.

We purchased this dehumidifier because the very warm weather this summer caused our oak flooring to swell and raise. The same thing happened last year, and we called in the flooring people to replace a couple of lengths of oak. That took several weeks during which time we had to leave the floor to dry out with a wide gap.
With this dehumidifier, the oak flooring dried out enough to be nearly flat within 48 hours, and was completely back to normal within 4 days. We now use the dehumidifier constantly to maintain lower humidity in the house.

Quite loud, though has a slower fan speed. Almost imp8ssible to attach external hose for draining, instructions very poor. Also it re-heats the cold air, yet would be efficient and helpful to leave the air cool for hot weather, to double as a cooler. May also be helpful to warm air in winter, so controllable heater system would be good. On the whole, does a good job and mostly happy.

I purchased this quite some time ago now. I waited before leaving the review to be sure of the performance. I read many reviews before purchasing. The one comment that stood out was regarging the energy efficiency, that it was too expensive to run. Honestly, I can’t validate this comment as I don’t have a smart meter but I haven’t noticed much difference in my bills. I don’t have this on permanently, only in the winter when needed. it works well and helps with mold forming around the window frames etc. I don’t find it noisy but it is a little heavy to carry around the house. However, since it has wheels you won’t have to do this unless you need to lift from wooden floor to carpeted areas. It is easy to see when it needs emptying, so I have never had the alert go off – although I think it has one for when it reaches full capacity. But 20l is quite a lot so I don’t think this will ever get full in one go. I highly recommend this product.

Had this for 9 months so far and no problems, I have a casio alarm clock that oddly has humidity levels and it’s within 2 or 3% of what the Meaco thinks it is, or vice versa.

I’d recommend reading Meacos advice about dehumidifiers especially how it can take time to bring down humidity levels. it runs far less than it used to , turns on every 30 minutes to check and then stops most days now.

Overall a great product that I’d imagine they QC well from the reviews including my own experience.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had a problem with damp encroaching into my garage. Not any more. This wee beastie is a gem. I have emptied the thing almost every day and it has dried the garage out a treat. With the warmer weather I now just have it on tick-over and empty once a week / 10 days – no more mould no more mildew. BTW – it works really well in the bitter cold too – unlike many of its competitors. Top of the Best Buy list in Which Magazines for this price range, and deservedly so.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI would like to trim it down.

    Symptoms:
Wake up in the morning and starts sneezing.
    starts running nose.
    starts watery eyes.
This only ends if i leave my house, go to job or any other place then my flat, but if i stay situation will be getting worse and worse every hour.

In my family only i have this problem, but since i bought this De-humidifier all allergies stopped, the flat looks a bit warm and good atmosphere in the flat.
This machine is a bit noisy to keep it running at night, but it is very good to clean air,
On the side note i would like to say, our flat is very very old and very very small like most flats/houses in UK, But why in UK authorities not making big houses, i have seen some new dwellings as well but they are way too small. sometimes you open your main door and you will see your neighbour standing face to face on his main door. In England houses are built by private contractors who are greedy and to save spaces they build as small houses as possible, if you seen the new open plan kitchens which are actually they stick appliances on one wall of sitting room and done 21 century kitchen is ready.
The Govt. should make it law to make big houses, double rooms should atleast take a super king size bed, they should be laws about wide walk ways etc.

This dehumidifier was recommended to me and It is one of the best things we have ever bought for our home. We started with humidity levels as high as 77 in the bedrooms especially first thing in the morning. We have been able to bring down the humidity levels under control throughout the house to 50-55 rh in around 3 -4 weeks . The air in the house feels lovely, light and fresh and the central heating is able to be more effective. We move the machine about as needed. Sometimes upstairs and sometimes downstairs .
The clothes drying facility works very well. Previously we would have clothes on the drying rack for 2 whole days and they would not get dry. Now clothes placed on the rack are dried overnight when I use the dehumidifier in the same room. This machine is a credible alternative to a tumble dryer and I imagine a whole lot cheaper to run.
I purchased this using Amazon’s ‘pay monthly ‘ facility which has been an added bonus . Highly recommended piece of kit.

My first one failed after 6 months – the fan stopped working.

Amazon replaced it first thing the next day. Amazing service.

Though It did cost me about 25 to post the faulty one back to Amazon who then refunded me their standard delivery fee of about 5. Still happy with that though.

    The dehumidifier is very effective.

It is very low cost on electric and we use it in a two bed house in Portugal for 14 hours a day every day. It needs emptying every night! I have tried a lot of dehumidifiers and after several weeks of use I am confident this is one of the best on the market. It has a lot of features and can take a lot of water from the air. I like the Louvre motion feature which works great and the best money saving option is he ability to turn itself off when a certain level is achieved. It seems well built and easy to use too. Expensive but I’ve been through a few which really didn’t deliver what I thought.

It seems to be a quality dehumidifier. It has a large tank that doesn’t need emptying much and when it does there is a convenient handle.
It has made a huge difference to the moisture level in my house and unlike the other dehumidifier I use downstairs it actually gets the humidity down to the 50% I have it set at and switches itself off.
It would be 5 stars but it is just a little too noisy. It is admittedly quiet for a dehumidifier, I don’t have to turn it off to sleep like my old one but it still produces a significant amount of noise.

Only down side I’d say for this unit but it is being a little picky is the second fan speed doesn’t really make that much difference to be honest! But overall much quieter than a Ebac I still use. Unit is put together better and I’d recommend these humidifier’s. One tip I’d give also apparently you get a three year guarantee if bought directly from the supplier.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought the Meaco 20L Dehumidifier in October 2017 and can honestly say, it is absolutely fantastic. It instantly eradicated the condensation, damp and black mould that had plagued my home. I don’t often write reviews but felt I had to for this product. I only left it so long because (being a natural sceptic) I wanted to be certain it continued to perform well, and it has.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersOur house seemed to be always cold and damp, with constant condensation on the inner windows, with this mould started to grow. We purchased this product with the filters at a hefty 290.00. I can honestly say it was been worth every single penny. Upstairs in our home is completely clear of condensation and it feels so much warmer, it even speeds up the drying of clothes we hang up. We empty once a day and everyday it collects a massive 15-20 litres.

The fact that you’re reading this means you think you need one. Spend the extra and get this one, I guarantee you’ll be thrilled with it within a day.

I paid for the filters too which help with asthma and hayfever in the summer, definitely worth doing I reckon.

Also our flat was quite cold before but now even when is cold and wet outside it’s very worm inside and the heating doesn’t have to be on for long time either.
I was worried that it might be very noisy but actually it’s ok. We have a small baby and it is like a white noise:)
We are very happy with it and we would recommend it to everyone.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersExcellent product. Bought on the basis of it being a which Best Buy and not disappointed. Had issues in the house with condensation and damp and despite this product not tackling the route cause on all cases. It most certainly helps in resolving the issue. Condensation on windows noticeably reduces when this is on.

The best thing is that you see the proof of how well it works when you empty the water holder and see just how much moisture has been removed from the air in the house.

It’s great in assisting with the drying of laundry too. Genuinely very impressed with this item and glad I spent the extra money to get a top end product. Only quibble is it can be quite load if left on through a night – sounds similar to a desktop fan for conparison. Regardless, hardly enough to mark this product down as having seen a few different units in friends houses this is certainly quieter than those.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDoes its job in a 40 square meters apartment where I can’t really open the windows (just 10cm, and they overlook a highway, so…DUST and POLLUTION). Sure, a bit noisy if you want to sleep with it in the bedroom, but I use it when I am home and awake. In the morning I don’t wake up with the feeling of dust in the throat (I am quite sensitive about this), and by the end of the week, when chores-time comes up, I notice less dust on surfaces of the house. And it really keeps humidity at the right level: on humid days, the tank fills quickly, and you can feel the difference (besides reading the percentage of humidity on the dehumidifier).
The tank is not very big, that this makes it easier to empy it, with respect to bigger models I had in past.

This has been a life saver! There is no ventilation in our bathroom, so all that humidity spreads all-over the house and makes it cold and unpleasant. We have it on 24 hours a day, moving it from the bedroom at night. It is very quiet on a carpet floor, basically like a fan. We can sleep with it on in a living room. It leaves the air very fresh and crisp. I definitely would recommend it, probably to everyone in the UK who loves in old houses/cottages. It really does not take much of electricity, we have storage heaters so we keep a close eye on our energy consumption and running it does not even add up to a 1 a day. Well worth it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWe are living in rented property which over the years is in need of modernisation, but this won’t happen… so some rooms were suffering from some damp and black mould, especially under the windows and in some corners.
We were almost at the stage of moving house because of this problem as we did not wish to live in a damp house….. we actually went to view some properties, but then we found this on Amazon and decided to give it a try instead… we figured the cost of this would be smaller than the cost of moving.
We cleaned all the mould away and installed the dehumidifier, and left it on 24/7.
That was 2 months ago, and now we have no damp, no mould and a much warmer, dryer home.
I would recommend this to anyone, it’s probably one of the best purchases i have ever made.
What is also fantastic about this machine, apart from the fact that it is cheap to run…is the fact that if you hang your laundry up to dry straight from the washing machine then it will dry overnight as the dehumidifier will suck all the water from it..saving on the cost of running your dryer… this will eventually cover the cost of buying the machine.
It isn’t light to carry upstairs, but you can if you have some strength… i can do it and i’m a lady of 60. It does have wheels for moving it from room to room though.
The noise is a soft whirr and it doesn’t stop me from sleeping or watching tv… in fact i don’t even notice it now.
My whole home feels so much nicer now and in the cold weather i can leave the windows tightly closed, saving money, and not get condensation on them.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWe have had our 12L Meaco for 2 years, so plenty of time to get used to it. We have a small 2 bedroom flat, and run it almost constantly in the winter, and quite a bit during the summer. We keep it in the kitchen most of the time, on anti-vibration pads (cost about 2). We have a drying rack in the kitchen, and overnight it will dry a load of laundry from the automatic washing machine, which is excellent, particularly in winter. We probably empty the tank once a day. It makes more noise when full (you can hear the difference) but the noise is not that obtrusive most of the time. I wouldn’t want to sleep in the same room with it on. Overall we are very pleased. It’s great to live in a dry atmosphere – it will bring the whole flat down to about 55% quite easily. We’re not sure about the running costs, but it must be cheaper to heat dry air. Our electricity costs have not gone up since we started using it.

reason we ‘spend more’ on this model is you can attach a piece of pipe (we use hose pipe) and leave it running without having to empty a tray all the time; other models ‘may’ do this but when spending quite a bit of time searching, this was the only model we could see that clearly did this.

I can’t rate this machine highly enough so five stars it is. It drys the washing in 5hrs or so has totally removed moisture from the spare room as well so no more condensation and damp smell. The product is really economical to run because as we have a smart meter we can see how much electricity it is using. Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI’ve gone through a fair number of dehumidifiers over the years, including ones with a manual knob, electronic/”Smart” control and one desiccant type. Two failed after just two years and I sold/gave away the rest after they got too noisy after 3 to 4 years. I also gave away the desiccant machine after just one month due to consuming almost twice the power for the same amount of collected water.

After some research and checking reviews of various models, this one became the winner for me for a number of reasons – Meaco states real-world extraction rates at 20C 60%, 15C 60%, etc. Ability to control the target humidity level. Very few mentions of failures. The fan shuts off after operation. I was going to consider the 25 litre Meaco, but it was outside my price range and it did not have enough user reviews to judge its reliability.

Once I got it set to keep the humidity level about 55%, I compared its power consumption against the litres collected and surprisingly turned out to be very little difference to a few of my previous dehumidifiers. However, when I tried it without the HEPA filter, that made a noticeable difference – It ran less often and it collected about 25% more water for the same power consumption.

The Meaco Control Logic is no gimmick, a few feature I would like to see on every dehumidifier. It shuts off about 3% below the target and stays off for about 30 minutes. My previous machines cycled very frequently and two Trotec models I had kept the fan running non-stop, using 30 watts. That’s 0.72kWh every 24 hours just blowing air! This Meaco would need to run its compressor for about 3 hours to consume the same power over a 24-hour period.

The machine is a fair bit larger than my previous 16 to 20 litre dehumidifiers. I wouldn’t consider its aesthetic anything special and personally would have preferred it in black. It is also one of the quietest dehumidifiers I’ve owned even from new, very like a desk fan on medium speed and hopefully does not develop an annoying drone noise later. For the first few weeks, it gave off a plastic smell during operation, but this since ceased.

Its water container is the largest I had on any dehumidifier, great not having to empty it as often. It collects about 6 litres based on measuring it with a jug. It easily comes out and has a carry handle and cover, so no splashing issues carrying it to the sink. I also like that the dehumidifier is on castors, easy to swivel around to vacuum the filter.

It does have a few minor niggles that could be improved upon:

During operation, its reading is at least 5% higher than several hygrometers I have. So, I have it set to 60% to maintain the humidity level about 55%, so no major issue here. Had this been a so-called “Smart” dehumidifier, it would have been wasting energy maintaining the humidity 5% lower than it was reading.

It keeps the louvre open and displays nonsense readings when idle, usually displaying 80% to 90% due to reading inside the machine when idle. Personally, I would prefer it either turns off the display or to keep displaying the last reading when it ran the fan. It only closes the louvre when manually powered off.

Finally, I reckon it would work more efficiently with the HEPA filter if it had a third fan higher fan setting to compensate for the reduced air flow. Then again, running a separate mains powered HEPA filter would consume extra energy anyway, plus it would be another appliance taking up space.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI bought this dehumidifier about 3 weeks ago. It’s a fantastic machine. We live in a 300+ year old house where it’s impossible to keep the damp out, solid floors, no wall cavitities, stone window sills which strike through to the outside (causing dangerous black mould), old and slightly porous building stone – you get the picture. Beautiful house but damp in the winter which is when I suffer from respiratory infections; it doesn’t take a genius to work out that there is a link here.
I can’t rate this machine highly enough and strongly recommend it. I have bought similar, cheaper ones in the past which haven’t helped much. With the Meaco I am pouring pints and pints of water away each day. The house feels different, there is no damp smell, the beds are dryer and there is no condensation on the double glazing in a morning.
Before I bought it I read many of the reviews; here’s some feedback on comments I read and a bit of advice:
I don’t have a problem emptying the water container and it doesn’t leak or spill. As with anything containing water you just need to be gentle with it.
It’s not too noisy but I am very sensitive to any noise so I simply move it from room to room (to ones which I’m not in); easy. However, we have had it going in the TV room and had to turn the TV up by 2 notches.
It is pretty heavy; I’m 60ish with a bad back and I move it up and down stairs myself, so not TOO heavy. Obviously I empty the water first.
TIP: when you first get it, turn up your heating and put electric blankets on your beds to get the moisture airborne – obviously it’s easier for it to extract the moisture once it’s in the air.
Worth every penny, get one if you have damp issues.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersWhen I was younger I was lucky to have attended a discussion by the Tibetan Spiritual Leader, HH The Dalai Lama. To start off this chat they wheeled in this Welsh Male Voice Choir who horrified me by singing `They`re Be A Welcome In The Hillside`. I`ve heard of rubbing salt into a wound but this was extremely tactless to put it mildly. However it got me thinking. Blokes in mountainous regions being either Tibetan or Welsh, have for countless centuries, loved nothing better than a good cuppa followed by a cheerful singalong. Is it the weather you ask? Well, Tibet is called the Land of Snow, frozen water and the Welsh air has an active make-up of 9 parts water to every 1 part oxygen. This may explain that whilst they may not appear cheerful and who could when your face is battling that amount of moisture, their actual attitude to any conversation is one of light-heartedness. Indeed, the Welsh have been known to stir many an Englishman to depths of emotions not normally induced without at least 12 pints of strong ale. So what has this got to do with this dehumidifier? If every valley and numerous bleak and barren mountainous outcrop had one of these as big as say, Conwy Castle then we could feasibly get the air ratio to such a point where and this is genuinely possibly, they could even crack a smile. Come on I hear you cry, this piece of kit is not that good and I know that is a tall order, unlike this item`s height but I stand by this statement and say, buy it. Buy it now if only to release our Welsh brethren from further centuries of gurning

I have had this product a couple of weeks now. It replaced Delongi desiccant dehumidifier which broke after only 3 years. I got this one a year after the old one broke. So,, there is time yet.. but so far? Excellent tool. Has far surpassed my expectations and is working hard. It appears to be much more effective than my old one and is pulling out water well. I have noticed that the humidity level is also now much lower than my old one could muster which is yet again a pleasant surprise. I have got the larger model and my house is not large but a deal on warehouse meant I could not miss the purchase. Its not overly noisy but could disturb if in a bedroom. I have it on my downstairs landing and its doing a grand job still. It isn’t the lightest but unless if you have no physical problems then this should not be difficult to move. It is on rollers to maneouver on a level surface. Its not overly large and sits without making the place look untidy. If it continues then I shall definitely put up an update. But, so far, very pleased indeed.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis works brilliantly. When I first installed it, it ran for about 4 days and sucked several litres of water out of the air Once my house was no longer a swimming pool, it cut out regularly as the humidity was below the threshold, saving electricity. Now we use it for drying clothes very efficiently on a clothes rail, and occasionally put it on to dehumidify the house. Usually cuts out within an hour as the moisture in the air is down to an acceptable level.

It’s quite difficult to review this type of products because to ensure you get the full value of the product, you need to be using this in perfect conditions. In my view, its very effective in a closed door room, and lets be honest- if you want to reduce humidity in a small room- you close the door and open a window. Winter- still, you need the heat on to ensure temp is 17-18 degrees.
I use in an open house- ie no internal doors closed- its quite effective in my attick bedroom- I leave the window open until approx 3- 4 pm ish in spring, then shut the window start the dehumidifier- it makes a difference in that the humidity stays at 60% and doesn’t rise.
My tip- you dont want to aim to low with this unit- be realistic, and you wont be disappointed.
Also, there’s a claim that this unit will raise the temperature by 1+ degree, Honestly- I havnt noticed any difference- and to use this as a selling point is very weak.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersTo say it is amazing is an understatement. I read the reviews and thought surely some of this is an exaggeration, well it is not, it really is that good. We have a 3-bed victorian house which was always prone to damp/condensation problems but these got worse once it is was double glazed. The result being mould/mildew/clammy walls/fabric, the odd musty smell here and there. First thing to say is that I ordered on a Friday afternoon and it arrived Sunday afternoon – very impressive. After waiting the hour for it to settle it was then taken to the worst room in the house for dampness. We had decided that initially we would run it in the dampest rooms before leaving it in the core of the house. The initial reading when it was switched on was 82% with 55% being what it should be – daunting! However within 12 hours it was down to under 70% and the container was 1/3 full, 36 hours later the container was full , 20 litres of water! Pouring that much water away is quite a revelation and a shock when you realise it was living in your room. Once empty off it went again and continued pulling water out of the room. Once it gets to the magic 55% we will move it to the other end of the house. Other comments? Well that room already smells and feels better, you really can tell the difference in the air, smells sweeter and actually a little warmer and more pleasant to be in. Funnily enough the day after I bought it I saw an article about how homes are much more prone to mould and mildew with double glazing, insulation etc and how bad for you it is to sleep in mouldy rooms so I felt very pleased I had made the investment in this purchase.
We are really very excited by this new toy and cannot wait to clear the house of damp with it’s help!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersWe have suffered from a persistent problem with condensation on our lounge windows, despite being double-glazed. This has lead to the spread of mould to the vertical blinds, curtain linings and the edges of the fitted carpet. Part of the problem was the drying of clothes during the winter months. We looked at the options, and decided that a dehumidifier was the best answer as we ad no room for a tumble drier. Since installing the 12L there has been no condensation at all until the external temperature drops below freezing, and then it is very slight compared with our past experience. A very worthwhile purchase.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’ve had this unit for a few months now so thought I would write a review as it has well and truly been tested.
It was bought specifically to be used in conjunction with a Victorian clothes airer for laundry. Previously, we were using a tumble drier but I was getting fed up with clothes shrinking and the running cost was high.
The drying room is a 2m x 3m unheated utility room which has 2 external walls and can get a little chilly in the winter. I was a bit concerned that this wouldn’t be able to cope.
The dehumidifier works brilliantly. A full load of clothes on the airer will dry within 4 hours.
The directional fan is great to help with circulation and speeds up the drying process as we can point it at the airer. The one thing that surprised me is how well it can heat up a room. Before getting the dehumidifier, the utility room would only be about 10 degrees above the outside temperature so when it’s only a couple of degrees outside the room would be about 12 degrees. With the dehumidifier on the room would get to 19-20 degrees.

The amount of water this pulls out of the air is amazing. Having the large collection container is excellent and it is really easy to empty.

The unit is expensive but the running costs are low compared to other dehumidifiers. It is extremely efficient and I am sure will pay for itself in no time compared to using a tumble drier.

The only negative I have is the noise. This isn’t an issue for us because it is tucked away in a laundry room. If we had it on the stairs landing or in the living room it would be distracting. Our son has a desiccant dehumidifier which is much quieter but nowhere near as efficient.

This was a fantastic purchase for us and saves lots of money

I bought this de-humidifier for our 3 bedroomed bungalow. The bungalow has an extremely well insulated loft and all windows are double glazed, so the moisture cannot escape easily. Although there is an extractor fan in the bathroom and kitchen I started having problems with condensation on the windows in the mornings, and mould appeared inside the fitted wardrobes. After cleaning the mould with a bleach solution, the de-humidifier got working and solved the problem. I ran it nearly continuously for the first few days and I was amazed how much water was collected. It is placed in the hall way and the doors to the individual rooms are kept open so that it can draw the moisture from all of the rooms. I sometimes leave it running during the night but it is placed away from the sleeping area so that the noise does not disturb me. I have used it in the conservatory with success and I have also used it to dry clothes. It has made a tremendous difference to my breathing, as I used to get a bit chesty. In the colder weather I set the humidity level below the recommended level of 55% to around 40%. Just make sure that the filter gets cleaned regularly as the machine will run continuously when the filter is blocked. One advantage are the rollers and the sturdy handle as I can easily move the de-humidifier between rooms without much effort. I would not like to take it up and down a set of stairs though, due to its weight. The water tank is easily emptied but dripping still occurs after removing the tank. Just needs a wipe. I am very happy with the performance of this product.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersHaving read a number of reviews I decided to go with the Meaco dehumidifier. The unit itself is quite large as would be expected but not to the point where you cannot move it around. It does have carry handle and wheels so easy to locate to another room if needed. It did take some fiddling to get it started originally to set a desired humidity level but once going it makes a low hum as it’s busy pulling in the water out of the air. One thing that did startle me was the amount of water this machine does remove. It really did absorb a heck of a lot and I was stunned at the amount of moisture in the air and clearly showed it was doing a great job. I haven’t had the joy of seeing it automatically shut off as I don’t leave it running for 24 hours as I still think the low hum would keep me awake at night personally but it’s certainly doing the job I purchase it for. My only criticism and why I didn’t give it 5 stars is the water collection tank. Perhaps I am being heavy handed but when I pull it out I always find there is a small puddle on the floor. This is most likely from water still dripping into the tank so I would guess you need to leave the machine switched off for a bit of time to prevent any puddle drips

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersPurchased this model as after some research as I wanted one that will last, and one with the capacity to work in a large 3 bedroom house.
We had a de-humidifier previously (borrowed from a relative) and although it worked ok, it was noisy and very basic.
My daughter is an international athlete who trains nearly every day and twice on some days. The amount of wet or damp clothing and training shoes was starting to overwhelm us and make the house damp and smelly. The onset of a wet autumn meant we had to take some action.
The Meaco Platinum 20L Low Energy de-humidifier arrived very well packaged and straight away my impression was of a very well made – quality piece of equipment. Once unpacked, we read the instructions which were all very straight-forward.
It is easy to set the humidity level, and once set we left it running. Basically this machine does exactly what it says on the tin. The amount of water it has taken out of our house is amazing.
Over the last couple of weeks we have left it on during the daytime when we are in work. We have no problem at all now with dampness.
What it does very well is dry clothing, wet training shoes and raincoats. We have been leaving several clothes horses of clothing (out of the washing machine) in one room and leaving the de-humidifier running all day.
I can’t really comment on how much electricity we have used, but overall I am very impressed with this machine, as it has been very very effective.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersMoney well spent…….The idea is to leave this on 24-7…….don’t panic it cuts in and out according to the humidity….empty when needed..once a day?
I live in a 3 bed semi-detached house….Its OCTOBER ….getting condensation on all windows up stairs and on corner of NORTH facing wall in bedroom ….probably not help as have bathroom & shower with no ventilation……Had this for a month now and as I said I have have left it on in the hall 24-7…..NO SIGN OF ANY CONDENSATION on windows or wall.
I do believe my upstairs has actually become warmer by taking the dampness out of the air.
Its not noisy but it one of those things you might tune in to like a fan at night in the summer.
OTHER THINGS….I had a mould smell in the main north facing bedroom for a couple of years could not really work it out as it would be stronger in the winter months…..what it was was the condensation on the windows getting into the WOODEN BLINDS then they would get damp and get mould on them, creating the smell…..I have now cleaned the blinds with disinfectant and hopefully with the dehumidifier it won’t come back…
I got this to use over the winter months but it also handy when you can’t hang you washing outside.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersOperational problem

This dehumidifier does really dry out the house and I no longer have water running down my windows and the build quality is sturdy aend looks good. However, I do have the same problem as reviewed by another customer on the Meaco website. After the unit has reached the desired humidity the unit does not shut down and on very rare occasions when it does shut down, it comes back on within 2 to 10 minutes. It seems that the humidity indication rises and once pass the setpoint starts up again. The humidity reading then immediately falls to the surrounding humidity, which is below the setpoint so the sequence repeats. I believe this is due to the cold air within the cooling coil flowing back out past the humidistat. This air is very humid and so causes the reading to falsely rise. This means the unit cycles frequently when it doesn’t need to, which won’t help with the life of the motor or fan. It also makes it very costly to run. I tested it by upping the humidity level to 75% and the unit still does not shut off as it should when the level drops. I will continue to monitor the performance for a couple more days and much to my regret ifthe problem does not resolve itself I will have to ask for a replacement or full refund.

Since posting the above review, I have set the target humidity at 60% and the unit is now going into sleep mode more often and for longer periods at a time and restarting when the humidity level has risen. It should now be much more econmical to run. It also stopes any condensation up throughout the whole house, regardless of where I situate the unit. I am extremely pleased with this humidifier and would highly recommend.
