Part Of The Platinum Range Of Low Energy Dehumidifiers
Meaco’s most popular dehumidifier and winner of a Which? Best Buy award for 2014/2015/2016 and 2017 as well as other international awards.
The most common question they get asked by customers is ‘how much does it cost to run a dehumidifier’, which is a reflection of the cost of electricity in Britain these days. They have always made dehumidifiers as efficient as possible to keep costs to a minimum and now with the Platinum Range of dehumidifiers they have taken this to a whole new level.
It is the build quality of this dehumidifier that makes it stand out from other machines.

Very satisfied even though first one failed after 6 months.
My first one failed after 6 months – the fan stopped working.
Amazon replaced it first thing the next day. Amazing service.
Though It did cost me about 25 to post the faulty one back to Amazon who then refunded me their standard delivery fee of about 5. Still happy with that though.
The dehumidifier is very effective.
Use this to keep a big cellar dry. I found the continuous draining feature helpful as I don’t want to empty it all the time. It works well, but you need to tip it backwards ever so slightly in order to get it to drain out the continuous draining pipe properly.
It’s quiet and pulls lots of water out the air. The cellar was really damp and is now totally fine.
Wonderful machine
It’s been an amazing addition to the basement flat we live in. My bedroom which was cold and damp now feels much warmer and it helps dry our clothes much quicker too. It’s brilliant.

This is amazing! I shopped around before buying and so glad I purchased this. It is very low cost on electric and we use it in a two bed house in Portugal for 14 hours a day every day. It needs emptying every night! I’ve no idea where all the water comes from everyday because the climate here is very dry! Really impressed with this machine.

Has been working non-stop for a yea
My dehumidifier has had to work non-stop for over a year and is still going strong. Hopefully the house problem will be sorted soon and then the dehumidifier can have a rest. Very simple to use, just keep emptying the water container when full.
Best dehumidifier on the market that I have tried.
I have tried a lot of dehumidifiers and after several weeks of use I am confident this is one of the best on the market. It has a lot of features and can take a lot of water from the air. I like the Louvre motion feature which works great and the best money saving option is he ability to turn itself off when a certain level is achieved. It seems well built and easy to use too. Expensive but I’ve been through a few which really didn’t deliver what I thought.

If you want a straight de-humidifier which is great at removing large amounts moisture from the air, then this device is the one for you. However, I have a collection of guitars which need to be kept at a humidity of 45-55% and it can’t reliably bring the moisture content down within that range. My main problem is that once it has reduced the humidity to a given level, it switches off for 30 mins. Nothing wrong with that, but when it switches on again in order to sample the humidity, it only runs for 30 seconds before deciding whether or not it needs to start removing moisture. What I am often seeing is that 30 seconds is not long enough for it’s sensor read the actual current humidity. So it shuts down for another 30 minutes thinking that all is well. All too often the humidity has risen to higher level and needs to be reduced. If I switch it off and on again forcing it to resample the air, it then detects the correct humidity level and starts removing moisture. I have 4 humidity gauges in this room which all agree with each other. So I am confident about what the actual humidity is. The bottom line here is that I cannot trust this de-humidifier to control the humidity. I have to keep checking and intervene when necessary. Having said all that, when its running its great at removing moisture and would be fine for most people.
Save time and just buy this one.
Captures an incredible amount of water from the air whilst also filtering out dust/dander.
We have it on constantly and move it between the rooms of our single level flat on its coasters.
We tried both a smaller dehumidifier and chemical dehumidifiers before we bought this and the difference is incredible.
I didn’t realise how much humidity you could remove from a small flat. We usually collect 4 litres per day. I have to empty the 3l container more than once every 24hrs. It’s simple to use: you turn it on. Boom. It’s slightly noisy, not horribly, but in some cases, maybe because of the position, the internal parts make a little more noise, so if you sleep with it in your room, you might get annoyed. Still, great quality, great results. We have a small 2 bedroom flat. We used to wake up with huge pools of water under the window. We still get the occasional residual condensation, but far less than before.
One of the best dehimidifie
We live in a flat where there is no room for a drier. We found this Which? Best Buy Meaco 20L LE dehumidifier very efficient for both the dehumidifying function and for drying the laundry. We usually put out the laundry before going out for shopping and turning on the Meaco 20L on full power so that any noise that it makes would be in our absence. By the time we return home the clothes are almost dry. We then turn the power to low for another couple of hours to remove the excess humidity from the flat. We do not turn it on at night, though the noise from the low power setting is quite bearable as it is sited in the hallway. Very pleased with its performance.
Quality dehumidifie
It seems to be a quality dehumidifier. It has a large tank that doesn’t need emptying much and when it does there is a convenient handle.
It has made a huge difference to the moisture level in my house and unlike the other dehumidifier I use downstairs it actually gets the humidity down to the 50% I have it set at and switches itself off.
It would be 5 stars but it is just a little too noisy. It is admittedly quiet for a dehumidifier, I don’t have to turn it off to sleep like my old one but it still produces a significant amount of noise.

Best humidifier by fa
Only down side I’d say for this unit but it is being a little picky is the second fan speed doesn’t really make that much difference to be honest! But overall much quieter than a Ebac I still use. Unit is put together better and I’d recommend these humidifier’s. One tip I’d give also apparently you get a three year guarantee if bought directly from the supplier.

I bought the Meaco 20L Dehumidifier in October 2017 and can honestly say, it is absolutely fantastic. It instantly eradicated the condensation, damp and black mould that had plagued my home. I don’t often write reviews but felt I had to for this product. I only left it so long because (being a natural sceptic) I wanted to be certain it continued to perform well, and it has.

First of all – I cannot compare this with other dehumidifiers as I haven’t used one before. What I can say is that I was suffering from serious condensation in my new house. Condensation was apparent on all windows pretty much all day long. I hadn’t realised as I don’t use the guest room particularly often but the condensation was so bad that the paint on the inner wall by one window had bubbled and there was black and orange mould. I had cleaned the area with bleach but this returned within a couple of days prompting the purchase of the dehumidifier. It was really easy to set up, pretty much plug in and go. I have mine at a lower humidity initially because of the severity of the condensation and was not disappointed. I plugged the machine in at about 16:00 hrs and I could see a noticeable difference in the amount of condensation in about 4 hours although still present. However the next morning I was pleased to see that there was absolutely no condensation – the first time since the summer. The wall that felt damp previously now feels a lot drier as well. With regards to the noise – I can hear the fan running on the landing when sat downstairs but it’s not overly intrusive and to be honest it’s a lot better that having condensation and mould. One point I would mention is that the intake vent is at the rear of the machine and the instructions state this should be at least 50 cm away from the wall – this isn’t particularly convenient where there is limited space such as in my case when it is on the landing. I’ve solved this by turning the unit round so the front faces the wall but means the control panel is upside down – niggly but a minor issue. Overall I am really impressed with this purchase despite only having used it for a couple of days.
Our house seemed to be always cold and damp, with constant condensation on the inner windows, with this mould started to grow. We purchased this product with the filters at a hefty 290.00. I can honestly say it was been worth every single penny. Upstairs in our home is completely clear of condensation and it feels so much warmer, it even speeds up the drying of clothes we hang up. We empty once a day and everyday it collects a massive 15-20 litres.
The fact that you’re reading this means you think you need one. Spend the extra and get this one, I guarantee you’ll be thrilled with it within a day.
I paid for the filters too which help with asthma and hayfever in the summer, definitely worth doing I reckon.

Worth the money
It is worth the money. We have quite big two bedroom flat and it does the job. It collects a lot of water and it helps drying our laundry. Also our flat was quite cold before but now even when is cold and wet outside it’s very worm inside and the heating doesn’t have to be on for long time either.
I was worried that it might be very noisy but actually it’s ok. We have a small baby and it is like a white noise:)
We are very happy with it and we would recommend it to everyone.

Powerful and quie
We only “discovered” dehumidifiers by accident, while trying to sort out heating problems and noticing relative humidity measures which we’d not considered before on some thermometers. The utility of a debumidifier will really depend on the intended application.
Investigation suggested that these might help for clothes drying and keep moisture down. Also if a room is used for ironing, then removing moisture may be helpful. These could also be useful for rooms or houses which have been flooded – though that’s a bit extreme, and it would make sense to get most of the water out first.
This Meaco unit is very good in a utility room for extracting moisture, and it’s probably cheaper than using a heater. It’s reasonably quiet. It extracted 1.6 litres of water from our utility room in under 24 hours, so clearly works. It is also effective at removing moisture from a shower room, though we probably wouldn’t normally want to do that..
It is small enough, and can be moved around fairly easily with a handle and wheels. It may be too large for some applications – that’s personal preference. For drying out a small cupboard or wardrobe it would probably be too large. It comes with a HEPA filter which we’ve not tested, and may be a great help to some people who are susceptible to allergens.
If some areas have a relative humidity of over 60% this unit should be able to reduce the RH significantly. However, if the ambient RH is 50% which is comfortable for most people, it will probably be hard to get the RH a lot lower than that.
It’s not particularly cheap, so it may be worth checking that there really is a problem to fix before buying. Check out moisture levels with hygrometers. For clothes drying this is brilliant.
Overall based on experience so far – a great product.
This machine indeed does what is meant for. Simple operations, looks small (it is up to 3 bedrooms) but don’t be tricked. Use the hepa filter for air purification is an added value. When buy it is provided with one. I really felt the difference when starting using it. The thermostat is not energised every 2 or 3 hours. The initial percentage of humidity was 78! After 3 days now the average stays between 55-60%. No water in the doors nothing sort of mould or freezing inside the house. Best buy, I did for my health and my family.
Effective but noisy
This works really well and has already signicantly decreased the condensation we used to experience on our windows in the mornings. My plan was to site it on the landing so we wouldn’t have to see it in a main living area. Unfortunately we find it really noisy, so my workaround is to site it in the lounge at 55% setting where it doesn’t come on much during the day, then reduce to 50% at night where it seems to be on all night, but we can’t hear it.
Excellent product. Bought on the basis of it being a which Best Buy and not disappointed. Had issues in the house with condensation and damp and despite this product not tackling the route cause on all cases. It most certainly helps in resolving the issue. Condensation on windows noticeably reduces when this is on.
The best thing is that you see the proof of how well it works when you empty the water holder and see just how much moisture has been removed from the air in the house.
It’s great in assisting with the drying of laundry too. Genuinely very impressed with this item and glad I spent the extra money to get a top end product. Only quibble is it can be quite load if left on through a night – sounds similar to a desktop fan for conparison. Regardless, hardly enough to mark this product down as having seen a few different units in friends houses this is certainly quieter than those.
Does its job in a 40 square meters apartment where I can’t really open the windows (just 10cm, and they overlook a highway, so…DUST and POLLUTION). Sure, a bit noisy if you want to sleep with it in the bedroom, but I use it when I am home and awake. In the morning I don’t wake up with the feeling of dust in the throat (I am quite sensitive about this), and by the end of the week, when chores-time comes up, I notice less dust on surfaces of the house. And it really keeps humidity at the right level: on humid days, the tank fills quickly, and you can feel the difference (besides reading the percentage of humidity on the dehumidifier).
The tank is not very big, that this makes it easier to empy it, with respect to bigger models I had in past.

love this product I have 2 smaller units from another supplier but they don’t have the capacity necessary to keep the bedroom dry. So I bought this larger unit and its perfect, in particular I like that it is working based on the dampness in the air so switches itself off when the room is dry. It is too noisy to leave on at night for us so we switch on in the morning, it also gives out quite a bit of heat when it is working but that’s not a problem. The unit comes with a HEPA filter and we also bought another 3. When out bedroom was really damp particularly in the winter you could smell the mould so we wanted the filters to collect the spores. I highly recommend this product.
impressed with the extraction powe
ot very noisy and impressed with the amount of water it extracts every day. It heats up the room as well thereby reducing the need to turn on the radiator. However it did not get rid of the damp patches and the mould on the wall despite positioning it near them. In other words, if you have a damp room, using this dehumidifier is better than doing nothing, but don’t expect it to solve the problem.
Excelle
It operates quietly and is able to reduce the humidity and improve the quality of air as promised. I measured the quality of air, and it reduces harmful dust significantly (20%-90% depending on the type of dust). It comes with a free HEPA filter, that is very important. I am happy with the purchase.
Outstanding dehumidifier! Takes so much water out of the air, it’s unbelievable!
We had serious damp problems, but now between a new roof and this dehumidifier, they’re all sorted. Small/light enough to move if necessary (I keep it upstairs during the day and downstairs at night), this is a really good choice. Expensive, but well worth the investment. A little noisy, but not excessively so (the fact that it’s on a different floor at day/night makes a huge difference).
Easy to clean, too – just vac the air filter from the outside every couple of weeks!
Thoroughly recommended.
Does good job, the moisture and condensation in our house is significantly less, and the feeling inside the house is better now, but this also depends on the percentage of moisture that you set the humidistat-we have it at 55-60%. It makes some noise but you quickly get used to it and the wet days the box gets soon full of water, but it’s easy to empty it and put it back in place. Easy to use, the instruction leaflet is very accurate. Also, it does good job with laundry, helps with drying the clothes. Much better comparing with another similar dehumidifier that the bought.
Bought as a Christmas present for my son but I had to use it in my house for a few weeks as my dehumidifier had broken. Excellent, wish I’d bought another for myself instead of paying to have my old one fixed as its much much better. I’ve used a dehumidifier for over 30 years my first lasted most of those years and the broke, I replaced it with another cheaper one (70 ish) that broke after about 3 years use, I had it fixed for 40, wish Id bought another of these instead.
Briallint for baseme
Have had this for over a year, and this continues to extract a surprisingly large amount of water when it’s not cold outside (we have this in our basement).
We now can’t live without this as, when it’s warm outsider, even not running this for a day results in damp smells returning. However, with it on the smell and damp is non existent.

you wouldn’t believe how much moisture this thing sucks out of the air. Washing dries in a day, easily, even towels. Seems to circulate the air quite well too. Haven’t yet had a chance to evaluate the cost of running it, but for drying washing or removing bathroom condensation etc, running it for short periods does the trick.
Excellent dehumidifie
I did tons of research on this Dehumidifier and its paid off, im so pleased with it, its transformed what was a very damp room with lots of condensation at times into a space that is warmer (less water vapour in the air) and dryer as the windows in our bedroom soon clear with this run for an hour or so in the morning. The ability to set this running on a timer is great and saves a great deal on running costs.
A great purchase!
basically like a fa
This has been a life saver! There is no ventilation in our bathroom, so all that humidity spreads all-over the house and makes it cold and unpleasant. We have it on 24 hours a day, moving it from the bedroom at night. It is very quiet on a carpet floor, basically like a fan. We can sleep with it on in a living room. It leaves the air very fresh and crisp. I definitely would recommend it, probably to everyone in the UK who loves in old houses/cottages. It really does not take much of electricity, we have storage heaters so we keep a close eye on our energy consumption and running it does not even add up to a 1 a day. Well worth it.

Very quiet and efficient. Dries washing well.
Bit of a nuisance emptying the water- could do with fewer holes in lid so it didn’t spill but the water is great for ironing/plants etc.
Would be nice to have a setting to warm the air further as air from it can seem like a cold draft.
Good quality and easy to operate. Timer function useful.

We are living in rented property which over the years is in need of modernisation, but this won’t happen… so some rooms were suffering from some damp and black mould, especially under the windows and in some corners.
We were almost at the stage of moving house because of this problem as we did not wish to live in a damp house….. we actually went to view some properties, but then we found this on Amazon and decided to give it a try instead… we figured the cost of this would be smaller than the cost of moving.
We cleaned all the mould away and installed the dehumidifier, and left it on 24/7.
That was 2 months ago, and now we have no damp, no mould and a much warmer, dryer home.
I would recommend this to anyone, it’s probably one of the best purchases i have ever made.
What is also fantastic about this machine, apart from the fact that it is cheap to run…is the fact that if you hang your laundry up to dry straight from the washing machine then it will dry overnight as the dehumidifier will suck all the water from it..saving on the cost of running your dryer… this will eventually cover the cost of buying the machine.
It isn’t light to carry upstairs, but you can if you have some strength… i can do it and i’m a lady of 60. It does have wheels for moving it from room to room though.
The noise is a soft whirr and it doesn’t stop me from sleeping or watching tv… in fact i don’t even notice it now.
My whole home feels so much nicer now and in the cold weather i can leave the windows tightly closed, saving money, and not get condensation on them.
I use it mainly for help with drying laundry and its brilliant I love it. It helps dry all my laundry very quickly especially my French Metis sheets which I use throughout the winter. I can’t tumble dry these as they just ball up and quite frankly its a waste of money and energy trying to dry them this way.
As the instructions did not say if it needed to settle before switching on (like a fridge or freezer), I asked the Amazon community but got conflicting replies so I just switched it on and it worked perfectly. The instructions are easy and simple to use. I’m truly amazed at the amount of water it collects, I use this to water my plants, not sure if this will kill them or not but we’ll see :). It is a bit noisy when high speed fan is working and I don’t think I could sleep with it but low speed fan is much quieter. My only regret is that I didn’t purchase this sooner. It is more expensive than others on the market but it appears to justify its ‘Which’ best buy status.
Great product, Removes 12 litres of water every day, no wonder I had a mould problem. It is quite loud but I just move it at night. My smart meter also shows very low energy being used. So I am very pleased with i
Worth every penny, i live in a bungalow which is plagued with black mold on ceiling lines especially in the bathroom despite ventilation. We cleaned it all off with black mold remover prior to buying this and not one spec has returned. We bought an Hygrometer just to see what the reading was before switching the Meaco on and it went off the scale, 2 weeks later with this running and we are in the comfort zone. The amount of water this thing pulls out of the air in the first few weeks is shocking and the difference it makes is amazing, no more mold, no more coughing and the heating rarely turns on now the cold damp air has gone which i`m sure will save more money in the long run.
So impressed with the results my neighbor has now bought one too, he suffers from COPD and say`s the results after a few weeks are truly miraculous.
Researched and found this selling in John Lewis
Went on amazon and saved a little.
Fantastic product very quiet and super efficient
Don’t wast your money on the cheaper options like have before this purchase
We have had our 12L Meaco for 2 years, so plenty of time to get used to it. We have a small 2 bedroom flat, and run it almost constantly in the winter, and quite a bit during the summer. We keep it in the kitchen most of the time, on anti-vibration pads (cost about 2). We have a drying rack in the kitchen, and overnight it will dry a load of laundry from the automatic washing machine, which is excellent, particularly in winter. We probably empty the tank once a day. It makes more noise when full (you can hear the difference) but the noise is not that obtrusive most of the time. I wouldn’t want to sleep in the same room with it on. Overall we are very pleased. It’s great to live in a dry atmosphere – it will bring the whole flat down to about 55% quite easily. We’re not sure about the running costs, but it must be cheaper to heat dry air. Our electricity costs have not gone up since we started using it.

We live in a 3 bed terrace which despite having double glazing with air vents, we continually have extreme condensation on the windows and our fitted wardrobe (I blame cavity wall insulation) and have had to use bathroom anti mould paint on all external walls to stop black mould. I’ve tried little electric dehumidifiers which haven’t really done a great deal so was a little undecided about making an expensive purchase of it wasn’t going to work but decided to take the bull by the horns.
I did a lot of research, having been involved with Ikea’s Live Lagom sustainability project earlier this year and being conscious of running costs I knew I needed to look at running costs as well as performance. The Meaco 12l Platinum dehumidifier ticked all the boxes so I placed my order.
Unpacked from box, put on landing and switched it on. If I was to tell you that it has only been running for approx 17 hours and has already pulled THREE LITRES of water you might be sat thinking ‘Yeah right’ but honestly it has!!! For the first time in I don’t know how long our windows aren’t full of condensation when I’ve woken up.
I’m amazed. I’m astounded. I’m thrilled.
This is a great product. I have a 4ft marine tank which gives off a lot of moisture. I already had the 12L version but it’s collecting pan is small and needed emptying twice a day. This one only needs emptying once a day and its not much larger size wise.
I’ve recently purchased a 250yr old derelict building. It’s a huge 4 bed detached stone house, which has been empty for years and has severe issues with penetrating damp and dry rot.
I bought two of these units to help dry out the saturated structure and bring moisture levels under control whilst renovation work is carried out.
I cannot believe the amount of water the two Meaco units are extracting each day. When I turned the first unit on, the humidity was showing as 78%. After 3 days, it now sits at around 55% but has dropped as low as 52%. I was so impressed I bought a second unit two days later so I can have one on each floor.
Every workman that has visited my home has commented on how impressive the Meaco dehumidifiers are. They often remark that they’re “a serious bit of kit” and the best domestic ones they have seen.
I keep mine on the highest setting 24/7.
Between them my two units are processing 50l of air a day. I have to empty each of the 5L tanks twice a day (every 12hrs or so) – so between them the two units are removing any incredible 20L of water a day from the saturated building. If the 5L tanks become full the unit beeps and then switches off, which is a nice safety feature.
The whole house feels drier and warmer since turning these on. Visitors have commented that the smell has gone and the house feels cosier. I can see from the display that the temperature in the house has increased by 2 degrees since I started using the dehumidifiers and I have not needed to put any of the heating on at night since I plugged them in. That means they’re saving me money as well as making the house feel noticeably more comfortable to live in.
I have the two units running 24/7 and have calculated that on my current electricity tariff, each unit costs me around 30 a month to run. That sounds like a lot but it has meant that I have been able to switch off two 1KW electric radiators I had running 24/7 so I am actually saving money.
If you’re worried about the price, I would say they will pay for themselves pretty quickly because of the low running cost and savings you will almost certainly make on heating bills. Well worth the money!
second one we have bought, pleased with the product; our first one did go wrong but it was fixed under warrantee & returned fine.
reason we ‘spend more’ on this model is you can attach a piece of pipe (we use hose pipe) and leave it running without having to empty a tray all the time; other models ‘may’ do this but when spending quite a bit of time searching, this was the only model we could see that clearly did this.
would recommend others to buy

This is a great product. It makes clothes drying so much easie
This is a great product. It makes clothes drying so much easier, especially in winter. Clothes are cupboard ready overnight.
Pros:
Good capacity.
Cons:
A bit loud. But not too much that you can hear it through a doo

I had mold problem in rented 2 bedroom house, black spots on walls behind furniture and on ceiling, and it’s hard to scrub it off, what’s more disappointing is that paint peeling off. Before I had 80% humidity in house on normal day and it took couple of weeks to get it to 50%. Machine was working 24/7, every other day in another room. Now I keep it mostly in the kitchen and in room where laundry drying. Machine is quiet, economical and its draws moisture out of air as its say in manual. Worth every penny.
Love, love, love this. Not only has it stopped the condensation issue in our home but air quality is a lot nicer. Also, hardly had to put central heating on all winter because this pumps out warm air. Did I mention that I love it?
Enjoying this product after a breakdown of my old one. It did take time to understand the instructions but I got there in the end. I had to put a rug underneath as it makes quite a noise on a wooden floor, otherwise it’s perfect and arrived on time and perfectly packed.

What a mighty wee machine this is, it’s been keeping my 2 bed flat in wettest Wales, dry for over 18 months. Running for 55% humidity.
It’s still going strong and the tank fills every 12 hours or so. I’d say it’s been turned on night and day for 17.5 out of the last 18 months and left to manage it’s own usage, and good god does it work hard some weeks.
I would recommend cleaning the filter (whilst turned off) at least once a week, by either running a hoover over it or washing it with soapy water. I’d also recommend running a hoover over the internal fan intake once in a while as this ensures a clear pull through, and thereby less stress on the parts.
Damn fine piece of kit.

Still going day and night after 4 years. A bit louder than it was in the early years but it’s still going. I also lightly spray the intake with anti mold solution which keeps it running smooth and quiet(ish).
After lots of research we decided to purchase this product to dehumidify the spare room and dry washing. I can’t rate this machine highly enough so five stars it is. It drys the washing in 5hrs or so has totally removed moisture from the spare room as well so no more condensation and damp smell. The product is really economical to run because as we have a smart meter we can see how much electricity it is using. I was worried about some reviews stating the fan was rather noisy but honestly think it’s really quiet, maybe because it’s in spare room with thick carpet this helps. Very happy with this produc

Brilliant piece of equipment! My husband was not convinced that a Dehumidifier would help (we bought a little holiday cottage near the coast, which is built into the rock and felt/smelt damp) – however he is a total convert! It has been marvellous, does the job well and even my husband was gob smacked with the amount of water that it drew out of the air. It’s great all for getting rid of condensation. We will still use it every now and then. I haven’t left it on overnight – so cannot comment on the noise. If you have a damp atmosphere in your home – get one of these, they’re not cheap, but i’d rather stay in a dry clean air environment than a damp one. I researched a number and opted on this one for the size of our llittle cottage and for the features it offered. Highly Recommend.
I’ve gone through a fair number of dehumidifiers over the years, including ones with a manual knob, electronic/”Smart” control and one desiccant type. Two failed after just two years and I sold/gave away the rest after they got too noisy after 3 to 4 years. I also gave away the desiccant machine after just one month due to consuming almost twice the power for the same amount of collected water.
After some research and checking reviews of various models, this one became the winner for me for a number of reasons – Meaco states real-world extraction rates at 20C 60%, 15C 60%, etc. Ability to control the target humidity level. Very few mentions of failures. The fan shuts off after operation. I was going to consider the 25 litre Meaco, but it was outside my price range and it did not have enough user reviews to judge its reliability.
Once I got it set to keep the humidity level about 55%, I compared its power consumption against the litres collected and surprisingly turned out to be very little difference to a few of my previous dehumidifiers. However, when I tried it without the HEPA filter, that made a noticeable difference – It ran less often and it collected about 25% more water for the same power consumption.
The Meaco Control Logic is no gimmick, a few feature I would like to see on every dehumidifier. It shuts off about 3% below the target and stays off for about 30 minutes. My previous machines cycled very frequently and two Trotec models I had kept the fan running non-stop, using 30 watts. That’s 0.72kWh every 24 hours just blowing air! This Meaco would need to run its compressor for about 3 hours to consume the same power over a 24-hour period.
The machine is a fair bit larger than my previous 16 to 20 litre dehumidifiers. I wouldn’t consider its aesthetic anything special and personally would have preferred it in black. It is also one of the quietest dehumidifiers I’ve owned even from new, very like a desk fan on medium speed and hopefully does not develop an annoying drone noise later. For the first few weeks, it gave off a plastic smell during operation, but this since ceased.
Its water container is the largest I had on any dehumidifier, great not having to empty it as often. It collects about 6 litres based on measuring it with a jug. It easily comes out and has a carry handle and cover, so no splashing issues carrying it to the sink. I also like that the dehumidifier is on castors, easy to swivel around to vacuum the filter.
It does have a few minor niggles that could be improved upon:
During operation, its reading is at least 5% higher than several hygrometers I have. So, I have it set to 60% to maintain the humidity level about 55%, so no major issue here. Had this been a so-called “Smart” dehumidifier, it would have been wasting energy maintaining the humidity 5% lower than it was reading.
It keeps the louvre open and displays nonsense readings when idle, usually displaying 80% to 90% due to reading inside the machine when idle. Personally, I would prefer it either turns off the display or to keep displaying the last reading when it ran the fan. It only closes the louvre when manually powered off.
Finally, I reckon it would work more efficiently with the HEPA filter if it had a third fan higher fan setting to compensate for the reduced air flow. Then again, running a separate mains powered HEPA filter would consume extra energy anyway, plus it would be another appliance taking up space.

Powerful, reasonably quiet, and efficient. In my home it was removing about 1 litre a day and dried out the room where our problem was very well. So far, it’s run for 4 months without any problems. Big tho, and a fair weight to boot, but does what it says it will do.

Why didn't we get one years ago?!
Superb and effective. I got this because we found mould in one of our rooms and after researching, realised humidity, caused by condensation was the likely underlying cause. That turned out to be true, routinely our 2 bed place was sitting at 70% humidity, which is not healthy and had kind of saturated walls and stuff.
The unit arrived, was simple to operate and in first few days pulled 20 litres of water out of the air. As the home has dried, the walls and stuff has too. Now it sits naturally at about 53%, well within the healthy range. The unit’s eco logic keeps it there, kicking the unit in and out around the range we set (50%) to stop any problems developing.
What we hadn’t realised was that damp walls = cold walls = heatloss = higher heating costs. Although we didn’t want the problem to start with (and I’ve had a crash course in damp and humidity control), we’re now nice and cosy with warm dry walls, central heating set lower and a healthier environment. This unit got on top of the problem fast and sorted it.
Built quality is excellent, instructions clear. The only thing I can fault is that it would be nice to be able to turn the button press bleeps on and off but that’s small beer. Highly recommend for people facing similar problems.
Oh, and as a bonus, it’s pretty effective as an indoor clothes drier too, means we used the tumble dryer less! 🙂
Update – Bought in winter 2016, still going strong absolutely no problems with this unit. We use this less now because it’s done an excellent job of drying out the fabric of the building. It took about a year for the building to give up all the dampness it had accumulated. For the first few months it was running pretty often during in the days but gradually it needed to run less (sensor mode is great for getting the balance right – set and forget). Then in subesquent years it ramped right down. We use mainly for indoor drying of laundry now, to decrease use of tumble dryer. The greatest advantage is no having any mould in the home and gavjng a much warmer, more snug environment. Still very pleased with this product. I came back to review because my mum was asking about it for her home, so I thought I’d give others a progress report! 🙂
This is the best purchase. We are very happy with this dehumidifier. We have it for over a year now and it works perfectly. We use it daily during winter season and it helps us keep the apartment at the right humidity level. Windows are dry and the clothes dry so quickly. Two of our friends have bought it after they saw how well it works in our apartment. I just wish we had bought it sooner. Very happy with this purchase. Also it is very cost and energy efficient so it wont have a big impact on your electeicity bills.
The first time I turned this on there was a strong plastic smell but after a day this had completely faded. I also found the sound quite loud at first, but grew used to it within the week and am now able to happily sleep through it (it’s for my bedroom so this is a relief). It’s a strong hum, like a fan on medium-high. I love being able to control when it comes on and off and find that it has made a substantive difference to the humidity levels in my room, especially drying my clothes during winter and removing window condensation. An excellent investment.
I like the way you can set this to shut off when it reaches the desired humidity level and when that level is reached it stops the fan as well as the compressor for 30 minutes before starting the fan and testing via the sensor. What I couldn’t understand why was when the humidity was reached the fan stopped but the LCD went up to 85 I kept turning off and back on until I read the instructions it said it will read higher when the fan stops as it’s the reading from within the unit where it’s both cold and wet once I figured this out I was very satisfied with it.
I have been using ebac powerpac 21 liters dehumidifier for about 4 years and bought this to replace it since the previous one is adamantly leaking. Currently both are in operation, and this has extracted a lot of water already from the bedrooms. Initially for few days it ran all day and night but now it appears to stop and run when the humidity goes up.
Like one of the reviewers mentioned, there was a strong chemical smell on the first day of use and i would recommend to leave it running somewhere you dont bother much for a day before moving to bedroom or the bedroom floor.
I am using the HEPA air filter as well and i am pretty happy the bedrooms feels dry and fresh.
>>> Updated after an year of use:
I am extremely satisfied with this product.
Excellent and very good dehumidifie
We started to have mould in the bedroom and we were horrified when we discovered it lurking and growing in the corner! We got rid of it from the wall and bought this for our flat. It’s done the job very well and I’ve noticed we don’t put the heating on so much even though it’s almost December. It was working harder at the beginning, now it doesn’t switch on so often. I’m amazed how much water it had collected. Very happy with this, I really think it will help us keep a healthy home.

Had previously purchased the 12L model which has performed more than adequately.
It’s been some years since then (2016), and whilst still running well the 12L model’s water trap is now quite noisy whilst the machine vibrates. This I’ve found can be mitigated with some tape around the trap, not ideal, but manageable.
I’ve bought a new house since then which is in disrepair so purchased the larger model.
NEGATIVES:
Very heavy. Especially when full. I can lift it with one hand, but it’s not something that can be done with ease for a lot of people (it does however have wheels).
Noisy at max setting. It’s not an unpleasant sound, but it’s not something I’d like to have on whilst watching TV, you’ll definitely be turning the volume up. It is however fine running in a downstairs room whilst asleep upstairs though.
Water Trap protrudes when full. It’s not a big deal, but – in the picture – the bottom section is misaligned when at least half-full. It bulges out.
Water Trap isn’t easy to remove to empty. It’s oddly difficult to pull out.
POSITIVES:
Has absolutely mitigated the condensation problem I have. This is from the previous house owner having flower beds too high and water running through the air vents. If left running in an enclosed space I can get from 70% to 50% humidity within around 24 – 48hours.
Whilst tall, it’s not *that* much taller than the 12L. See picture for comparison between the two. Note the 20L model also has wheels.
Very large water trap, it’s pretty amazing how much water is taken out of the air as you tip it down the sink.
It has wheels that work(!).
Automatically opens air vent when turned on. The 12L doesn’t.
Hygrometer is as accurate as others I have in the same room.
Handle is sturdy. I can carry it (albeit heavy) and never felt as if it’d break, even whilst full.
Another review has mentioned mould accumulating. The rooms this has been in have black mould (stripped wallpaper to reveal an incredible amount of mould and dampness) and after stripping the unit down I haven’t seen a problem. Same with the 12L. I DO use a hepa filter however. I suspect this can be mitigated with bleach spray but contacting Meaco for advice would be a better bet. I’ve contacted them previously regarding filters and they’ve been top notch.
Overall, very happy. Weight may be a problem for some, as well as the noise, but it does the job I needed it to.
I bought this dehumidifier about 3 weeks ago. It’s a fantastic machine. We live in a 300+ year old house where it’s impossible to keep the damp out, solid floors, no wall cavitities, stone window sills which strike through to the outside (causing dangerous black mould), old and slightly porous building stone – you get the picture. Beautiful house but damp in the winter which is when I suffer from respiratory infections; it doesn’t take a genius to work out that there is a link here.
I can’t rate this machine highly enough and strongly recommend it. I have bought similar, cheaper ones in the past which haven’t helped much. With the Meaco I am pouring pints and pints of water away each day. The house feels different, there is no damp smell, the beds are dryer and there is no condensation on the double glazing in a morning.
Before I bought it I read many of the reviews; here’s some feedback on comments I read and a bit of advice:
I don’t have a problem emptying the water container and it doesn’t leak or spill. As with anything containing water you just need to be gentle with it.
It’s not too noisy but I am very sensitive to any noise so I simply move it from room to room (to ones which I’m not in); easy. However, we have had it going in the TV room and had to turn the TV up by 2 notches.
It is pretty heavy; I’m 60ish with a bad back and I move it up and down stairs myself, so not TOO heavy. Obviously I empty the water first.
TIP: when you first get it, turn up your heating and put electric blankets on your beds to get the moisture airborne – obviously it’s easier for it to extract the moisture once it’s in the air.
Worth every penny, get one if you have damp issues.
When I was younger I was lucky to have attended a discussion by the Tibetan Spiritual Leader, HH The Dalai Lama. To start off this chat they wheeled in this Welsh Male Voice Choir who horrified me by singing `They`re Be A Welcome In The Hillside`. I`ve heard of rubbing salt into a wound but this was extremely tactless to put it mildly. However it got me thinking. Blokes in mountainous regions being either Tibetan or Welsh, have for countless centuries, loved nothing better than a good cuppa followed by a cheerful singalong. Is it the weather you ask? Well, Tibet is called the Land of Snow, frozen water and the Welsh air has an active make-up of 9 parts water to every 1 part oxygen. This may explain that whilst they may not appear cheerful and who could when your face is battling that amount of moisture, their actual attitude to any conversation is one of light-heartedness. Indeed, the Welsh have been known to stir many an Englishman to depths of emotions not normally induced without at least 12 pints of strong ale. So what has this got to do with this dehumidifier? If every valley and numerous bleak and barren mountainous outcrop had one of these as big as say, Conwy Castle then we could feasibly get the air ratio to such a point where and this is genuinely possibly, they could even crack a smile. Come on I hear you cry, this piece of kit is not that good and I know that is a tall order, unlike this item`s height but I stand by this statement and say, buy it. Buy it now if only to release our Welsh brethren from further centuries of gurning
Pleased indeed with purchase.
I have had this product a couple of weeks now. It replaced Delongi desiccant dehumidifier which broke after only 3 years. I got this one a year after the old one broke. So,, there is time yet.. but so far? Excellent tool. Has far surpassed my expectations and is working hard. It appears to be much more effective than my old one and is pulling out water well. I have noticed that the humidity level is also now much lower than my old one could muster which is yet again a pleasant surprise. I have got the larger model and my house is not large but a deal on warehouse meant I could not miss the purchase. Its not overly noisy but could disturb if in a bedroom. I have it on my downstairs landing and its doing a grand job still. It isn’t the lightest but unless if you have no physical problems then this should not be difficult to move. It is on rollers to maneouver on a level surface. Its not overly large and sits without making the place look untidy. If it continues then I shall definitely put up an update. But, so far, very pleased indeed.
This dehumidifier has made such a difference in our brick built conservatory which has a glass roof. We have struggled for years with condensation running down the walls and washing which never dries! Then we saved up and bought this beauty which has changed our lives! Washing is dried! No more damp smelly washing! No more condensation! Easy to empty and simple instructions!
This works brilliantly. When I first installed it, it ran for about 4 days and sucked several litres of water out of the air Once my house was no longer a swimming pool, it cut out regularly as the humidity was below the threshold, saving electricity. Now we use it for drying clothes very efficiently on a clothes rail, and occasionally put it on to dehumidify the house. Usually cuts out within an hour as the moisture in the air is down to an acceptable level.

Great machine!
Don’t know how I managed before getting this great machine! My house has always had problems with condensation on the windows even though double glazed, but had reduced to virtually nothing having the dehumidifier on for a couple of hours a day. No great difference to my energy bill either. The Meaco is quiet compared to others I’ve used.
We have previously owned two eBacs but were tiring of them breaking as soon as they hit their guarantee expiration. Although this was a little more expensive, we were persuaded by the Which ‘Best Buy’ recommendation. We were not disappointed. It’s amazingly efficient and runs on an economy setting, whilst we’re at work, maintaining a perfect humidity. Wheel it into the bathroom after showers/baths and the moisture is cleared, within an hour. Washing is also a breeze to dry (so to speak) and the fan is relatively quiet. It’s an efficient machine and you’ll be astounded how much moisture it removes, each day; I’d have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone considering purchasing a dehumidifier.
you need to be using this in perfect conditions. In my view
It’s quite difficult to review this type of products because to ensure you get the full value of the product, you need to be using this in perfect conditions. In my view, its very effective in a closed door room, and lets be honest- if you want to reduce humidity in a small room- you close the door and open a window. Winter- still, you need the heat on to ensure temp is 17-18 degrees.
I use in an open house- ie no internal doors closed- its quite effective in my attick bedroom- I leave the window open until approx 3- 4 pm ish in spring, then shut the window start the dehumidifier- it makes a difference in that the humidity stays at 60% and doesn’t rise.
My tip- you dont want to aim to low with this unit- be realistic, and you wont be disappointed.
Also, there’s a claim that this unit will raise the temperature by 1+ degree, Honestly- I havnt noticed any difference- and to use this as a selling point is very weak.

A worthwhile investme
I have been using this for a couple of months now and it is worth every penny. We have our bedroom door shut on a night so on cold nights the windows can be completely foggy with condensation. But using this before going to bed and in a morning (if the moisture levels are above 50) has stopped this from happening. I haven’t found that I need to run it continuously apart from the first day I got it. I purchased this as we had mould growing on the windows and wall near the window and also the wall became so wet the paint peeled of and there was a wet patch through out the cold months.
To say it is amazing is an understatement. I read the reviews and thought surely some of this is an exaggeration, well it is not, it really is that good. We have a 3-bed victorian house which was always prone to damp/condensation problems but these got worse once it is was double glazed. The result being mould/mildew/clammy walls/fabric, the odd musty smell here and there. First thing to say is that I ordered on a Friday afternoon and it arrived Sunday afternoon – very impressive. After waiting the hour for it to settle it was then taken to the worst room in the house for dampness. We had decided that initially we would run it in the dampest rooms before leaving it in the core of the house. The initial reading when it was switched on was 82% with 55% being what it should be – daunting! However within 12 hours it was down to under 70% and the container was 1/3 full, 36 hours later the container was full , 20 litres of water! Pouring that much water away is quite a revelation and a shock when you realise it was living in your room. Once empty off it went again and continued pulling water out of the room. Once it gets to the magic 55% we will move it to the other end of the house. Other comments? Well that room already smells and feels better, you really can tell the difference in the air, smells sweeter and actually a little warmer and more pleasant to be in. Funnily enough the day after I bought it I saw an article about how homes are much more prone to mould and mildew with double glazing, insulation etc and how bad for you it is to sleep in mouldy rooms so I felt very pleased I had made the investment in this purchase.
We are really very excited by this new toy and cannot wait to clear the house of damp with it’s help!
We have suffered from a persistent problem with condensation on our lounge windows, despite being double-glazed. This has lead to the spread of mould to the vertical blinds, curtain linings and the edges of the fitted carpet. Part of the problem was the drying of clothes during the winter months. We looked at the options, and decided that a dehumidifier was the best answer as we ad no room for a tumble drier. Since installing the 12L there has been no condensation at all until the external temperature drops below freezing, and then it is very slight compared with our past experience. A very worthwhile purchase.

Yep really works. I have a 3 bed semi detached house, did have a small to medium mould and condensation problem in all three bedrooms in winter time. Not any more. Keep it on in each room for a couple of hours a day ( easily portable) and it has completely gone. I reduce the humidity to 50-55% which is easily achieved probably in less than a couple of hours really, the box room is done in about 15 mins!!. Easy to empty and is quite quiet, although i dont run it all night. Good features on it. If in doubt check out FIX My ROOF.COM all the info is there on mould control and these dehumidifiers are recommended.
I’ve had this unit for a few months now so thought I would write a review as it has well and truly been tested.
It was bought specifically to be used in conjunction with a Victorian clothes airer for laundry. Previously, we were using a tumble drier but I was getting fed up with clothes shrinking and the running cost was high.
The drying room is a 2m x 3m unheated utility room which has 2 external walls and can get a little chilly in the winter. I was a bit concerned that this wouldn’t be able to cope.
The dehumidifier works brilliantly. A full load of clothes on the airer will dry within 4 hours.
The directional fan is great to help with circulation and speeds up the drying process as we can point it at the airer. The one thing that surprised me is how well it can heat up a room. Before getting the dehumidifier, the utility room would only be about 10 degrees above the outside temperature so when it’s only a couple of degrees outside the room would be about 12 degrees. With the dehumidifier on the room would get to 19-20 degrees.
The amount of water this pulls out of the air is amazing. Having the large collection container is excellent and it is really easy to empty.
The unit is expensive but the running costs are low compared to other dehumidifiers. It is extremely efficient and I am sure will pay for itself in no time compared to using a tumble drier.
The only negative I have is the noise. This isn’t an issue for us because it is tucked away in a laundry room. If we had it on the stairs landing or in the living room it would be distracting. Our son has a desiccant dehumidifier which is much quieter but nowhere near as efficient.
This was a fantastic purchase for us and saves lots of money
Excellent produc
I bought this de-humidifier for our 3 bedroomed bungalow. The bungalow has an extremely well insulated loft and all windows are double glazed, so the moisture cannot escape easily. Although there is an extractor fan in the bathroom and kitchen I started having problems with condensation on the windows in the mornings, and mould appeared inside the fitted wardrobes. After cleaning the mould with a bleach solution, the de-humidifier got working and solved the problem. I ran it nearly continuously for the first few days and I was amazed how much water was collected. It is placed in the hall way and the doors to the individual rooms are kept open so that it can draw the moisture from all of the rooms. I sometimes leave it running during the night but it is placed away from the sleeping area so that the noise does not disturb me. I have used it in the conservatory with success and I have also used it to dry clothes. It has made a tremendous difference to my breathing, as I used to get a bit chesty. In the colder weather I set the humidity level below the recommended level of 55% to around 40%. Just make sure that the filter gets cleaned regularly as the machine will run continuously when the filter is blocked. One advantage are the rollers and the sturdy handle as I can easily move the de-humidifier between rooms without much effort. I would not like to take it up and down a set of stairs though, due to its weight. The water tank is easily emptied but dripping still occurs after removing the tank. Just needs a wipe. I am very happy with the performance of this product.
Having read a number of reviews I decided to go with the Meaco dehumidifier. The unit itself is quite large as would be expected but not to the point where you cannot move it around. It does have carry handle and wheels so easy to locate to another room if needed. It did take some fiddling to get it started originally to set a desired humidity level but once going it makes a low hum as it’s busy pulling in the water out of the air. One thing that did startle me was the amount of water this machine does remove. It really did absorb a heck of a lot and I was stunned at the amount of moisture in the air and clearly showed it was doing a great job. I haven’t had the joy of seeing it automatically shut off as I don’t leave it running for 24 hours as I still think the low hum would keep me awake at night personally but it’s certainly doing the job I purchase it for. My only criticism and why I didn’t give it 5 stars is the water collection tank. Perhaps I am being heavy handed but when I pull it out I always find there is a small puddle on the floor. This is most likely from water still dripping into the tank so I would guess you need to leave the machine switched off for a bit of time to prevent any puddle drips
Purchased this model as after some research as I wanted one that will last, and one with the capacity to work in a large 3 bedroom house.
We had a de-humidifier previously (borrowed from a relative) and although it worked ok, it was noisy and very basic.
My daughter is an international athlete who trains nearly every day and twice on some days. The amount of wet or damp clothing and training shoes was starting to overwhelm us and make the house damp and smelly. The onset of a wet autumn meant we had to take some action.
The Meaco Platinum 20L Low Energy de-humidifier arrived very well packaged and straight away my impression was of a very well made – quality piece of equipment. Once unpacked, we read the instructions which were all very straight-forward.
It is easy to set the humidity level, and once set we left it running. Basically this machine does exactly what it says on the tin. The amount of water it has taken out of our house is amazing.
Over the last couple of weeks we have left it on during the daytime when we are in work. We have no problem at all now with dampness.
What it does very well is dry clothing, wet training shoes and raincoats. We have been leaving several clothes horses of clothing (out of the washing machine) in one room and leaving the de-humidifier running all day.
I can’t really comment on how much electricity we have used, but overall I am very impressed with this machine, as it has been very very effective.
After thorough research and comparison, I bought this. Very happy with the product, would be buying another one soon. Thanks to other in depth reviews, I made the right choice. Would recommend this strongly.

Money well spent…….The idea is to leave this on 24-7…….don’t panic it cuts in and out according to the humidity….empty when needed..once a day?
I live in a 3 bed semi-detached house….Its OCTOBER ….getting condensation on all windows up stairs and on corner of NORTH facing wall in bedroom ….probably not help as have bathroom & shower with no ventilation……Had this for a month now and as I said I have have left it on in the hall 24-7…..NO SIGN OF ANY CONDENSATION on windows or wall.
I do believe my upstairs has actually become warmer by taking the dampness out of the air.
Its not noisy but it one of those things you might tune in to like a fan at night in the summer.
OTHER THINGS….I had a mould smell in the main north facing bedroom for a couple of years could not really work it out as it would be stronger in the winter months…..what it was was the condensation on the windows getting into the WOODEN BLINDS then they would get damp and get mould on them, creating the smell…..I have now cleaned the blinds with disinfectant and hopefully with the dehumidifier it won’t come back…
I got this to use over the winter months but it also handy when you can’t hang you washing outside.
Amazed at how well and quickly this has started to clear up the humidity in my home. Within 24 hours had emptied the container three times. Its like living in a different home, everything smells so much fresher. Would definitely recommend getting one if you do have problems.
Operational problem
This dehumidifier does really dry out the house and I no longer have water running down my windows and the build quality is sturdy aend looks good. However, I do have the same problem as reviewed by another customer on the Meaco website. After the unit has reached the desired humidity the unit does not shut down and on very rare occasions when it does shut down, it comes back on within 2 to 10 minutes. It seems that the humidity indication rises and once pass the setpoint starts up again. The humidity reading then immediately falls to the surrounding humidity, which is below the setpoint so the sequence repeats. I believe this is due to the cold air within the cooling coil flowing back out past the humidistat. This air is very humid and so causes the reading to falsely rise. This means the unit cycles frequently when it doesn’t need to, which won’t help with the life of the motor or fan. It also makes it very costly to run. I tested it by upping the humidity level to 75% and the unit still does not shut off as it should when the level drops. I will continue to monitor the performance for a couple more days and much to my regret ifthe problem does not resolve itself I will have to ask for a replacement or full refund.
Since posting the above review, I have set the target humidity at 60% and the unit is now going into sleep mode more often and for longer periods at a time and restarting when the humidity level has risen. It should now be much more econmical to run. It also stopes any condensation up throughout the whole house, regardless of where I situate the unit. I am extremely pleased with this humidifier and would highly recommend.
