The shoes fit well and are typical Merril comfort. I have only worn them a couple of weeks but they seem to be performing like any other Merril. I have Vasque shoes that look similar and cost twice as much that are not nearly as comfortable.

I ordered these shoes prior to actually needing them. I just tried them on and walked around the living room a little bit. So far so good. Now let my trip begin!

I have several pairs of Merrell hiking shoes and boots that I wear regularly and wanted to buy something a bit better looking for work/casual wear. These shoes fit perfectly, as expected.

I bought these to replace the exact same item purchased over 2.5 years before. These are not just used for hiking (for which they are great) but I also use them daily. Expensive but to last this long, they are well worth the price. Looks great with jeans and are super comfortable

These shoes are what I would say is a cross between a walking shoe and a hiking shoe. Great support for hiking yet comfortable enough to wear around the house, walking which I do a lot or hiking. I would buy these again and other Merrill shoes now that I see how much I like them.

Merrell is a brand my family has relied on for a good fit and great quality shoe. This hiking shoe was a gift for a family member, and surpassed our expectation. An extremely handsome hiking shoe.

These shoes are very comfortable and look great. I was worried be a use my foot, while not extra wide, is on the wider side of a D. Many of the reviews said they were too narrow, I find their width not to be narrow at all. They provide plenty of room. Very pleased with this purchase.

They are a great shoe, so much better than the cheap trainers I usually buy. Fitted well direct from the box, no rubbing areas on feet.

Hard to beat for durabilty and comfort, at a good price. Worn same / simalr shoes for casual/kicking around for years, never worn a pair through to holes or failure of fabric, even the laces are bullit proof in comparrison to usual.
I don’t need to wear a pair in, they are comfortable and good to go for a long walk out of the box. I have 10 year old pairs for gardening!
    I couldn’t rate them higher.

Like the look of these as have had Merrell shoes previously. Seem to be well made & up for a decent amount of walking/trekking but not gven the full 5 stars as dubious they will last more than a year.

I prefer little or no mesh and need a roomy toe box. For many years I wore Merrell Outland in a low and a mid. When they were discontinued I wasn’t finding many similar options. For example, the Merrell Moab Adventure looks similar but has a tighter toe box and a short heel cup.

Anyway, I now own the Forestbound in both a low and a mid (size 11) and so far have been very happy with them. No mesh, big toe box and they work well with my orthotics.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery comfortable. In fact, they might be the most comfortable shoes I own. I’ve been able to walk and stand in them for long periods without any discomfort. I’m not sure how, but they feel surprisingly light for hiking shoes. They look great in solid black too (though the laces have some darker blue threads in them). As a diabetic, I wanted shoes that helped keep my feet warm and these do the job better than any other shoes I own. I’ve not had the chance to test the waterproof feature yet, but worth every penny so far. My only complaint is that the laces are too long, which is hardly even worth mentioning.

My Merrill’s took me to the Swiss Alps, top of Kilimanjaro, Petra, Central America, Atlas Mountains of Morocco, China Gobi Desert, Glacier National Park, Mauna Kea, over the Dolomites, and the Inca Trail in Peru. Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersUpdate, 74 days of everyday use – the soles are peeling off at the front and rear edges. I will need to re-glue them… Removed one star because this is substandard for such expensive shoes. Cosmetically they look as good as new, tread is not unevenly or over-worn which is good.

Also what I said before about the shoes’ water-proofedness or resistance or whatever being no big deal… Well… I put on my old beaten pair of Keen trail running shoes which are not waterproof, which are MUCH lighter weight and breathable for a hike… They were much nicer to wear, I don’t go across enough wet ground to justify the weight, the stuffiness.

    _____________________________________________________
This is exactly the shoe I’ve been looking for for years. I live in a rural area, have to go through damp dirt, loose rocks, don’t really like to have to make shoe-changes unless I’m going out hiking. I have bought the whole gamut of trail runners, hiking shoes between $100 and $200, so far, (provided they don’t wear prematurely,) I think these are my favorite.

The only negatives… I guess the texturing on the sides of the outsoles are odd looking. They catch light, and really stand out. If you don’t keep them clean, they stick out even more, with built up dust/dirt. Then… The insole is pretty stiff. No aches or pains or anything, but, I will probably add some dr scholl’s of some sort.

You should also be aware these aren’t incredibly well ventilated. My previous pair, some Keens… were VERY well ventilated, so, the lack of ventilation bothered me initially, that might not be the case for you.

Overall I do recommend these. I will update the review if they wear prematurely or if they last decently well.

Are you looking for a worry-free decision on a men’s all purpose hiking shoe? Look no further!

The Merrell Men’s Forestbound Wp Hiking Shoe has got the right stuff for outdoor durability and comfort. A real rubber sole with a non-slip tread design provides a solid base and a ton of grip. The upper is a combination of coated leather and mesh for a lasting waterproof experience. The insole conforms to, and protects your foot, ensuring hours of comfort while hiking or walking.

This terrific shoe runs true to size in foot length and width and provides plenty of room in the toe. Fit is snug when laced up, yet allows for available room for a gel insole [if you require one].

“Rock solid” best describes both this shoe, and my decision to purchase!
    Good luck with your search.

This is a comfortable and sturdy walking shoe with good grip which is what I was what I wanted for the winter months in particular. Overall 4 star because black was not my preferred colour – I was looking for grey or charcoal but the other factors outweigh this one detail.

Having tried quite a few walking shoes I have settled on these mainly because of comfort. These are without doubt the comfiest of the lot even ones nearly double the price. I have a pair of Merrell Moabs also I have worn on some long forest treks which have been super comfy but I feel these Forrestbounds have the edge but only slightly and I didn’t want two identical pairs.
Grip over rough ground seems fine giving me enough confidence of my footing and my feet remained dry. The shoes are comfortable out of the box due to being well padded and quite soft inside although this does make them a warm shoe. Thin sock is all I need with these.
The sole does a good job of cushioning shock and leaving my feet free from aches at the end of my walks.
Only other small issue is not quite as grippy over very wet rocks but I expect a more grippy sole wouldnt last as well but no where near bad enough to take a slip in my opinion, nothing I can’t live with and more than made up for by the comfort.
I have a somewhat wide foot and again these are fine.

Have only worn these shoes twice. I have a narrow to medium size foot and it is hard to find shoes that a good fit and these shoes have a very good fit. I use arch support inserts in all my shoes and these shoes work very well with the insert.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThese shoes are just great, I am so glad I bought them. As a farmer I tend to get robust mens’ shoes for the days I can be out of wellies, and these are spot on. They are SO comfortable they are almost like slippers, but have a great robust, non-slip sole and seem entirely waterproof so far – I have walked wet fields, forded streams, waded through a marsh and fed free range pigs so far, and my feet have stayed entirely dry.
If they live up to the promise they are showing after three days, I will be buying them again, and my husband has already bought them having seen mine.

Not given the true dog walking wet grass test yet but out and about in wet weather they’ve been fine. Dry out quickly too. UPDATE – after a few months still pleased with these. Comfortable and my feet have stayed dry walking in the rain, on the beach and through wet grass.

I decided to upgrade my old Merrell hiking shoes (10 years old and still kicking) with the Forestbound hiking shoe and these do not disappoint. They fit great, are comfortable, easy to clean, and have great grip when hiking wet trails. Merrell hiking shoes are the only ones I”ll buy from now on.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThey’re a very strong, tough feeling shoe which gives excellent support while being very light in weight. I bought a 10.5 (my normal size depending on source 🙁 ) and the fit is perfect. A relatively narrow fit as well which is ideal for myself. Bought for walking the dog in all sorts of environments rather than climbing mountains, seems the ideal fit 🙂 for my purposes.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have purchased Merrell shoes for many years and without fail have to go half a UK size up from my normal shoe size of 8UK. I did the same with these and got my usual 8.5 but they are a little too big in comparison to other Merrell. They are comfy and light, but my foot moves around too much in these compared to my Merrell MOAB. My advice is not to size up in these like you normally have to with Merrell. Go for your normal shoe size and you should be fine. I got these using Amazon Wardrobe and also ordered leather Merrell MOAB in my usual 8.5, which are super comfy. So these Forestbound will be going back (using the excellent try before you buy of Amazon Wardrobe) in favour of the traditional MOAB model.

Ceci tant, une stabilit et un amorti exceptionnel pour un prix acceptable. Voir l’usage car en Provence le calcaire est abrasif pour les semelles et mme le VIBRAM ne rsiste pas la cruaut de cette roche….

I ordered a 9 and 9 to wear over thicker socks. I’d say they’re a “small” 9 as they fitted over normal socks and the 9 was too small over thick socks. IYSWIM. Comfy though and worn for a day with no issues.

Reasonably comfortable, though the insole is pretty basic. You have to adjust things, like the way the laces are threaded: my feet are narrow, so to tighten the laces all the way down I had to change the way they were threaded at the top. Once you’ve kind of adapted them to your feet, then they’re good.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI wasn’t going to post a review yet, because I haven’t yet worn them outside. But I did notice something. I must have ordered size 11.5 by error because I always get size 11, but these11.5s fit pretty nicely and I won’t be swapping them for 11s. So it looks like these may be small for the sizes.

I wanted a pair of walking shoes that were black leather, waterproof-ish without any other coloured marking. So these fit the requirements. Not yet tested on a long walk or getting wet but on short walks they appear to be OK. Always order a size or two larger than your shoe size to take thicker sock and feet swelling during long walks.

Bought this for work rather than hiking. As expected of Merrell, the overall material quality is excellent and most of all it is comfortable. I wore this for 12-hour shifts for a week straight (mostly moving and standing) and had no issues with comfort. The only slight concern is that a couple of stray treads started to show up from beneath the front black waterproof piece (see photos) which could either be excess threads or stitching starting to break loose only after a week of wearing.
