Essential but appealing design.
I was so pleased that I bought two, because I have a house divided into two zones, and one had a thermostat replaced only two years ago. easy to assemble then if you have problems you can find tutorials both on the portal and on the internet also in Italian. So you can change the temperature of your home at any time anywhere in the world you are.
A very useful device.
Pared with wifi easily.
Easy to install
I use with Alexa when home and use phone app when away.
Trend graphs very useful
I can see the claims about reducing energy costs are justified as long as you take the trouble to take notice of the information provided.
Price has gone up recently but still represent good value compared to others
I got two of these as I have two zones in my house. I thought I would be able to connect the two thermostat to 1 relay but it looks like you need to plug in the two relays.
Once you have them on the walls the setup is quite straight forward using the netatmo app.
The only issue is that it is supposed to be compatible with HomeKit but the 8 digit code is nowhere to be seen and no way of retrieving it. I will be contacting Netatmo about that.
Other than that, I think you save on heating costs simply because you can turn the heating off remotely for example if you are not at home and then turn it on 20 minutes before you arrive.
Edit: customer service is really bad, it took ages for them to reply and when they did they copy/pasted the answer. Still looking for my HomeKit 8 digit code
On receiving the box the first thing that strikes one is the large amount of fancy packing. This is not ‘green’ packing and seems to include foam.
Another annoying thing about the packing is that getting into it is hardly intuitive, a fact borne out by instructions as to how to unpack. Only problem is that these instructions are inside the packing. Argh!
Next problem was that the back plate did not fit the mounting box for the bog standard thermostat it was replacing. I had to drill holes and use the supplies surround plate. Not pretty.
Next up the connections were easy and a colour surround fitted. There is no warning about how exact this must be because the inc dec switches rely on the unit physically moving. Fancy but not great design.
The thermostat found the relay box no problem but pairing with WiFi was not so straight forward. The instructions said to press a button under the relay. Well there was a strip of plastic with no tactile feeling which seemed to help and after a few goes it all worked and the app could be used easily.
So bottom line is that this works well with slightly tricky installation. Design over function basically. Value for money is great from Amazon.
We live in Netherlands, and got a netatmo since almost none of the other smart thermostats wiring options seemed to match ours. It was easy to install and saved us the cost and hassle of professional installation (though I had to look up tips from other reviews, as the netatmo forum is very difficult to navigate)
Indeed a smart thermostat, the netatmo learnt our house’s heating pattern in a few days, and now keeps it comfortable. Quite unlike our last thermostat, which always made it either too hot or too cold.
Easy enough to install. It does its own thing and the house is always nice and warm.
If you do not have a room thermostat at the moment you will need to be OK with accessing the boilers control panel and connecting the Netatmo control unit to it, but it is easy enough to do.
Accessing it from the phone app is easy and the app is well laid out.
Excellent product with many more features then it’s competitors. Very easy and neat set up and installation, the easiest wire up ive done to date. Everything including wires are provided something not all the competitors do.
This thermostat allows you to have a wired or wireless set up so it saves putting holes in my walls.
The thermostat is very neat and easy to use with merely click up and down on the box to turn the temp up or down. Or for more pc and app capable users you can set peramitors and heating schedules.
It’s best feature is its learn software. After a few weeks the thermostat understands how you like to warm your home and very cleverly incorporates it for you.
The reason I am giving this 4 instead of 5 stars is due to its look. Very plain with a screen like a kindle. But if you can look past this its a good little purchase.
I purchased this to replace my existing non-smart wireless thermostat.
My purchasing decision was between this and the Tado system but went for this one on price as the Tado cost over 300 including installation. Whilst Netatmo do have some approved installers on their website my local plumber charged me 50 quid and said it was relatively painless to do.
In terms of installation you essentiallly have two boxes, the relay, which is wired to the boiler, and the thermostat itself, which is battery operated. The relay also connects to the WiFi in the home unlike Tado and Hive, which require an additional hub connected to the router. This may not be an issue for all but I already have a Phillips Hue Hub so ideally didn’t want yet another hub.
Once wired up (but before connecting to router etc) this basically operates like a non-smart wireless thermostat, so even if you internet goes down you won’t lose control of your heating.
The setup process is easy and can be done from your phone. Once this is done, then you can get into programming heating schedules etc. HomeKit setup was also a doddle, the only downside is that HomeKit works in incriments of 1 degree Celsius as opposed to 0.5 on the Netatmo app. This is also compatible with Google Home and has been linked up with my Google Home speaker (also works with Alexa but can’t comment on setup process).
The thermostat itself is highly programmable and you can also set it up so it learns (similar to Nest but not quite the same) how long it takes to heat your home. One area where it is distinctly behind competition (Tado) is that it doesn’t implement geofencing but all things considered, this was 99 plus installation whereeas Tado Thermostat plus wireless extension kit was 278 plus installation.
The system facilitated future expansion as you can also add smart radiator valves and further thermostats.
Overall I think this thermostat offers excellent value for money and would definitely recommend for someone who is looking for a capable smart thermostat but doesn’t want to be tied into the Hive/Nest ecosystem.

This thermostat is simple to install, The associated app is easy to use and there is also a touch pad unit for the house.
Myself and 3 of my friends have it installed in our homesand are all very impressed.
Does what it says on the tin. It’s a thermostat, it’s smart! Easy to instal, easy to set up and easy to operate.
Why spend a fortune on a Nest when this does it all for a fraction of the price?
Easy to use once set up. Relay sometimes loses connection. App is very good, easy to control temperature, and predictive algorithm is good.
It does what I want, easy to use, much cheaper than competitors. My house schedule changes week by week so this is a perfect solution for me. I spend a few minutes adjusting heating times on a Sunday and that it for the week. Netatmo have done a good job with this thermostat you have the option to just replace an existing thermostat, or have it in the room wireless. I replaced a thermostat, they provide a lot of information, online videos and even an email address that if your wires don’t match the configuration in the literature email them a photo of your wires and they’ll tell you which ones to use. However I’ve been waiting 2 week and not had an answer, I Googled other thermostats and worked it out. If you go for the free standing wireless option there is a back piece so you don’t have to buy stand like with the nest. For the setup the app wouldn’t work in android, I had to do it through a computer, but it’s fine now. Works fine with Google home and echo.
The only downside of this is the screen – I’ll get that out of the way first. It’s not that limiting though as I usually use my phone to control it anyway.
Once set up, after approx. 7 days it offered me a new setting (to more accurately control the heating) – what a difference. Before that setting, it acted as a pretty basic thermostat (and I wondered if it was worth the money just to be able to switch my heating on and off remotely – the swings were high – up to 3C – as it made no adjustment for the fact my radiators retained heat after heating or that it took a certain time to get the room up to temperature). Now, the swings are low (less than 0.1C) and the boiler is on for shorter periods (more often, but overall less time). This is what I paid for. Smiley face!
Setting up is pretty easy – I wired it in a way not shown in the book (hard wired the relay into the timer – basically the relay connects the black and grey wires when the thermostat is on, so I connected the grey to live and the black to switch the boiler – if you don’t know how these things work I wouldn’t try this though).
Simple to install, easy to use, and very good results/feedback. Initial installation for wi-fi connection can be involved, but there is plenty of help online.
I can finally control my heating! Does the job and the app is easy to use as long as you take ten minutes to look at it.
I definitely couldn’t have installed it myself though, I got a boiler engineer over. An advanced DIYer who has experience with boiler maintenance could do it – but not the average person.
Arrived as expected. Job done. From opening the box to controlling the heating from Alexa all achieved in less than an hour. Will update after I’ve reviewed some graphs etc available from the Netatmo app.
I am using it with a gas heater. It’s simple to install and configure. The IOS app is intuitive, logical and easy to use. More importantly, the device seems to be quite stable once configured (no reboots, no dropped connections).
It’s a minimalistic, very nice looking device.
I am really impressed, hence five stars.
Great equipment. Works faultlessly in our holiday home. Always warm when we arrive whatever the time of year. Easy to fit and great price. Thanks
Looks nice and the default 3hr period for manual setting of temperature is convenient. Unfortunately, as other reviewers discuss, its thermostat is slightly off.
I’m seeing a +/-1 degree variance which means it often doesn’t come on as early as it should.
Additionally, Alexa support is pretty basic, with no way to ask what the temperature is currently set to.
Update: An Alexa command to ask what the temperature has been currently set to has been added.
I’ve purchased two smart thermostats to control my heating in two places. Neat design but connection with Alexa or Home was frustratingly difficult. Technical Support was patient and helpful with the first installation when I couldn’t get the central heating boiler to link with the room thermostat. However, once set up, it’s a great way to control, monitor and change the temperature remotely. I particularly like the ability to boost it before returning home. Netatmo emails a link to access the month’s energy saving graphs which will prove interesting during the upcoming Winter months. I have no doubt the savings will pay for the thermostat and, with additional valves planned to regulate individual areas of the house, even more savings should be made.
The packaging is fine.
All is included.
Easy to install, all informations are given in order to install it.
It’s very usefull.
The application is very usefull.
It’s easy for me to have remote access when i’m at work
At this price, it’s just perfec
It’s definitely one of the most stylish thermostat on the market. I bought it to upgrade my multi-zone thermostat, so the installation was easy enough and didn’t have to go through the cabling with the boiler, and didn’t have to ask the customer support for it. Though I’m not highly competent with DIY and not a qualified electrician, but I managed to installed it myself using their instructions provided in the box. The reason I’m not using it as the main controller is just because it doesn’t control the hot water. Otherwise I would’ve liked it everywhere in my house just because it looks fabulous on the wall.
The user interface is simple both on the device and the app. Just like some conventional thermostat, you can program it to suit your routine but now you can control it remotely and through HomeKit and Alexa. And you have the ability to switch it “off”, whilst most other smart thermostats are “always-on” type. But that’s depending on your liking.
The most annoying part is whenever you restart your internet router it keeps dropping off the network and you’ll have to reset the wifi setting on this device again. Although the router restart doesn’t happen often, but it’s just annoying having to go through it every time. Otherwise, it’s a lovely kit and I grabbed it at a good bargain of 80 something.
No smart learning functions as far as I can tell, but as a digital/wifi thermostat it’s great value.
I’m absolutely useless at DIY but managed to fit this very quickly. Works a treat and the software sends you a monthly report via email detailing your consumption. If you are not coming home and staying out unexpectedly you can switch off your heating via a smartphone app and save energy.
Looking for a replacement for my old digital thermostat that had sticky buttons and was surprised to find that this Smart stat was not much more expensive than a conventional thermostat. Also finding that this is highly recommended by Which? and was very simple to install decided to get one. Swapped over in about 1 hour and so far very happy, but of course the true test will be when the cold weather returns.
Absolutely love this product, the ability to control from the phone was why I bought it for but the surprising thing is just how well it controls the temperature so accurately and intelligently, for example if the temperature is 21c and you want it up to 22c and the outside temperature is high then it will only switch on the heating at a low level so that it does not overshoot. Once set it’s normally plus or minus 0.1c from the set point. It takes the outside temperature from my Netatmo weather station which is fantastic feature that I like. A product that actually exceeded my expectations.
I have been researching these for some time now and until recently were, like most other “smart” thermostats relatively expensive, with the recent price drop I decided to try one, I selected the Netatmo because it could be used as a direct replacement for my existing Danfoss thermostat.
The unit comes nicely presented and boxed with everything required to replace your existing thermostat or to install as a new thermostat,
in my case I replaced a existing wired thermostat.
Fitting took around thirty minutes and was very straightforward as my existing thermostat was battery powered as is the Netatmo, so there were only the two signal wires to change (no power cables) inside the backplate there is a small black connector block with a white cover held by a single screw, remove this screw and the cover lifts off the connector block can be lifted clear this makes fitting the wires much easier, reassemble secure the backplate, install the batteries in the thermostat and fit to the backplate, put the power back on and test. In my case it worked first time.
So why only four stars, well although this comes with a stand to allow mobile use, unless I missed something if you use the stand there is no cover plate for the backplate which seems odd as no one would want the exposed backplate on show.
Although this is a “smart” thermostat my old thermostat had the ability to set multiple timings and temperatures for each day which so far I have been unable to do with the Netatmo, and because the mains adapter is multi functional when fitted with the UK plug connector it sticks out from the wall some 49mm.
For my situation any competent person should be able to carry out the installation without any problem, for other situations you may want to pay extra for a professional installation.
Whilst I was a bit skeptical of this thermostat versus some of it’s competitors, it has proven to be a good investment. Installation was not that straight forward, partially due to the lack of any detail in the instructions booklets (there is a forum where you can ask questions but it proved to be a bit useless), and partially down to having an external oil fueled combi boiler.
Once everything was wired in correctly (remember to triple check everything!) I attempted to set the connection up to the internet to the relay part of this thermostat using the Android app but it kept getting stuck in a loop updating the firmware. I decided to try using an iPad Pro to set it up instead, and everything worked well, and I have been able to reconnect using the Android app since the firmware updated.
The app part is quite simple to use but is quite powerful as it learns how your house heats up and cools down. This process takes approx. 2 weeks but in the meantime works along side what ever programming you set. The part of the thermostat that lives in the house is actually quite neat as well, and has an E-Ink screen, which means that batteries should last a while. I can quite recommend this product.
I have been running this now for nearly 3 months. Initial set up was fine, though it’s not for the faint hearted I would suggest, relies too much on wiring colour codes in the instructions but if you know how your system works it’s pretty easy to work out once you realise what all the bits do.
I had a problem in that my central heating system decided to play up just at the time I installed this, took me some time to work this out as I was away from home a lot and my wife was not impressed! Finally discovered it was a motorised valve that was playing up intermittently, this meant that the boiler would not come on sometimes, but dropping the set point and raising it again usually sorted it as it forced the valve to close and open again.
Now that this is sorted, heating controls to within plus or minus 0.2 Degrees! Also prediction is very good and means the house is warm when you want it to be based on outside temp. I don’t believe the energy savings, in fact I think we are using more because of the prediction. I think they base their savings on comparing against a system with no timer. ( who has one of those??). But the house is warm when I want it to be and we can shut down when away.
I bought this to put in place of a wall mounted roomstat and have been most impressed. It was relatively straightforward to fit – there were two wires to my existing roomstat that weren’t needed but I had it up and running and connected to the internet within 30 minutes or so. I had no particular problems with the wifi connection although I was at first a little bit too impatient when the device was trying to connect to the wifi – it took a few minutes to do so.
The app is very good and I’ve had no problem connecting to the Netatmo from my mobile phone.
This product is so good, I purchased two.
It works well giving me control of the boilers in my home at the tap of the screen of my smart phone.
Installation of the first Thermostat was problematic as I could not connect the relay to the App on the phone, but then I discovered the easy fix of connecting the relay to a laptop with a USB cable, downloading a small software from the Netatmo website, then running the software and it all worked fine in the end.
I’ve been using for a couple of weeks now and have been very impressed. Connected to our new worcester bosch cdi boiler in the loft. Electrician did have difficulty connecting up as per the instructions but through some helpful advice on amazon review we cracked it. Easy to control via app with different timings set for certain days. Thermostat mounted in hallway and no problems with signal to the loft or wifi issues. Certainly recommend it and very well priced.
The thermostat in my house was never wired up for some reason, it gets power fine, but the control wires to the boiler were never installed. This meant that to turn on our heating I had to turn the knob directly on the boiler itself, wait until the house felt warm then turn the knob off again. This was a terrible way of doing it as the house was always being heated from cold and it also became too hot which meant we were spending a fortune on gas.
My Father actually let me know about the Netatmo after having one installed himself and after playing with his for a while I decided it was perfect for my needs. I made sure to read reviews and also watched some videos on Youtube to make sure it was compatible with my system.
Installation was a breeze and took me less than 10 minutes. My only problem was the wifi connection but I fixed this by installing a wifi extender in the utility room near to the boiler. I think the wifi on the module is very week and needs a good strong signal to communicate with ‘the cloud’ – The thermostat will work without wifi but you wont be able to control it from your phone, tablet or PC, nor will you be able to use the heating schedules.
Once it was all up and running I was able to set the heating schedule on my phone and that was that. The heating comes on and goes off when it should and I get updates every so often asking if I want to change anything which is actually a nice feature. The portable screen has been installed on a wall in our family room but we hardly go near it due to the easy to use app on our phones.
I have not used the away from home features yet so wont comment on them.
All in all its a easy to install and easy to use thermostat, it does not have complicated features or extra features which you pay for but never use, it just does what you want it to.
a little bit of a gimmick at this stage of my life. plenty functionality. I’m not blown away but it’s good and I got a good deal on i
Easy to install with the help of a bit more knowledge from the Netatmo Community Forum, but it is difficult for them to include guidance on every combination and permutation of boiler system. Has been running for a few weeks now and the flexibility of having the thermostat as a floating (wireless) entity means it sits dead centre of our living room and is far more accurate in judging temps and comfort for the room and in turn whole house. Thoroughly recommended and will be interested to see the effect on the heating bills over time.

We’ve had ours for over two weeks. It’s so easy to fit, (I did it myself within 20 minutes), Has great features, supports IFTTT (If This Then That) and Amazon Echo which we have Echo and Dots in every room. Added bonus is Apple HomeKit. You can control your heating via the Home app on IOS and via Siri.
It’s starting to learn our household habits and is adapting to what we want and when. It also now predicts when the heating needs a boost or a drop and the graph is very informative.
Looking forward to buying the Radiator Valves to add in each room when they come out.
Amazing Thermostat at a very low price!! Very happy.
This was my foray into IOT and having it now in for a month can highly recommend it.
We have a Danfoss radio controlled thermostat and hot water system so trying to follow the wiring diagrams was a waste of time and didnt want to link it directly to the boiler. If you have a multimeter and a logical way of working out what signal gets sent when the old thermostat triggers ht boiler, then it was a doddle and having worked out exactly how to connect it in it works a treat in the junction box, not the boiler. It also meant that the old Thermostat can be kept in case of any problems, Just remember to take the battery is out as we forgot one night, making the house nice and warm while Netamo thought it was doing nothing.
I’ve seen some complaints about the installation instructions, but despite my initial frustrations, (one day!), I think it unfair as heating systems in houses are very varied, but also simple, so hard for any after market provider to provide a full installation guide for every case. The most important thing to remember is the the relay is a relay – as in it is a switch it only connects the circuit across the grey and black wires. So one wire has to be live and the other has to link tot he boiler. If you can keep that simple principal in mind its a simple to install without touching the boiler.
Packaging is similar to that found onn the eraly iPod – ie.e. superb they have obviously thought about the unboxing experience – a bit extravagant given that its only a thermostat. The Thermostat its self is a cute minalmistic display simple to change manually. The web app tells you about its battery level and also its radio and wifi connectivity.
Getting the Thermostat to pair with he relay is simplicity its self – as long as the relay has power, then with he thermostat close, to the relay adding the batteries and it pairs very quickly. Then you can take the thermostat further away, (from upstairs to downstairs in our case).
In terms of both the android and Ios app, it works flawlessly. The web application is very good and actually provides data on how good your house is in terms of efficiency – so provide some good material is and when you come to sell it.After the first 7-8 days it created its own algorithm. A thing to watch on the web app set up is that you can set the intelligence in a number of different ways including telling it to take the external temperature from the local forecast… a neat feature
The only downside and its a really minor one, the screws supplied to mount the relay are rubbish! Oh yes customer ace by email took a week to come back, by which time I’d sorted it out and had it up and running.
Since putting this in, I’ve added a welcome camera which integrates nicely on the web. Installation and getting it going wasn’t quite as smooth (took 2 days!), but its now fine.
So overall, if you want a clever thermostat that you can control remotely, this is good package.
Despite the poor response times from the manufacturers “support” team, proved easy to install to replace my rotary thermostat. A joy to use and now able to control my central heating anytime, anywhere.
When I woke up a couple of times to a cold house due to my old Siemens wireless thermostat playing up, it was time to replace it. I wanted to go ‘Smart’ so researched all the current offerings. For me, the Netatmo stood out for its simplicity of design and the fact that it’s not quite as smart as the others. It doesn’t track your every move… something I would not be happy about. All it wants to know on registration is an email address and password which is fine. You can give the app a postcode for weather purposes but you don’t have to.
It works really well. The phone app is easy to use but the web site is a little easier to navigate if viewing on a larger PC monitor as more items are shown on the home screen at once. If you want to dig deeper into the menus then there are lots more settings to play with. Setting up and operation have been covered elsewhere so I won’t go over them again, but I will mention a couple of points that arose on the day of installation which some may find useful.
1) On mine, the small back plate that carries the 240V mains and switch cables was extremely tight when the relay unit was pushed onto it. So much so that it was almost impossible to remove it once on. I solved this by slightly rounding off the plastic ‘grab hooks’ with a small file.
2) I wondered how it would behave after a power cut (my boiler by the way is a Worcester Bosch combi). So after switching the mains off for a while and then on again, I observed that it can just sit there completely dead for several minutes. At first I thought if this doesn’t come back on without human intervention then the whole purpose of it is defeated. But thankfully it does always come back to life, but the time it does so seems to vary, so patience is needed.
I demonstrated the app to a work colleague who then purchased one too. He is also happy with it. Would I buy another? Definitely.

Definitely.
A decent heating system deserves an accurate thermostat. Naive to think that a 12 old-style one will be remotely accurate.
This unit is great, the house is Intelligently warmer. If you are out and circumstances change regarding your return time, simply connect via phone and stall or change.
Great. Hight recommended.

For anyone with some basic electrical knowledge it’s very simple to instal.
Software and App is easy to instal and set up, also linked to my Echo with no problems.
System is very easy to use and i have found it to be very useful.
I did send photos of my orginal stat to the netamo address listed but have not had any reply, so their support is a bit of a minus.
It was a really easy install of relay
It has been controlling the heating for 2 weeks now and it is fantastic
We are not heating an empty house but if our schedule changes it is easy to go on your phone and put heating on and we come home to a warm house
Really simple to fit with my combo boiler. A DIY job if you’re halfway comfortable with wiring a plug. Has been reliably working for me for maybe 3 months now. Easy to control from app (away from home or at home) or stat. Quite boringly efficient. It just works. I’m very happy.
I’ve using this for 3 months now on a holiday house in the Highlands. It allows me to see and control the heating during the stormy weather and to increase the temperature so that the house is warm when we arrive on a Friday.
The fitting instruction are straight forward and easy to follow for any DIY person who is happy to deal with mains electricity. The heating system we have is 50 years old and involves a room thermostat, external frost-stat and a digital programmer / timer. It took a bit of lateral thinking to sort out all the elements but it is now doing exactly what I need it to do.
I won some vouchers at work so I paid even less for this. But it’s certainly worth the full price. My boiler’s timer-clock broke down and the company had quoted me 200 to repair it! Whereas this was half the price and it upgraded my system to ‘smartness.’ Installation was easy (because I like DIY and my system just needed a replacement thermostat- one of the three installation scenarios). You can either follow the manual or watch an online video. Both are clear and helpful. My installation took a little longer because I lost one of the tiny screws, so be careful! Once it’s complete though, it looks neat and works a dream. I’m still learning the phone app’s schedule system. So far, so good. I absolutely love it!
I must start by saying I am an electrician and I had a wireless stat installed by my company with a boiler change, it always overshot the set temperature, it was crap basically.
The Netamo was therefore easy for me to install, just install the relay in place of the original “transmitter device” live, switch wire back to the programmer and the neutral connection and your done with the wiring.
fit your stat to the wall and follow the set up instructions.
Mine being an old “30’s” house with solid walls gave the wireless a few problems but the hallway was where I wanted it so eventually it settled down and synced.
Then set up your times and temps in the app and you’re done.
The only addition I would like to see would be as it shows the outside temp would be to record this also to enable you to see what your usage is verses the outside temp at the time, but otherwise a great piece of kit!
This brings my central heating under the control of my iPad and iPhone. I recently went abroad and turned the CH off as I left the house and back on while disembarking from the ferry. My house was warm when I arrived home.
An excellent, flexible, informative, convenient device.
I recently became the owner of a Netatmo thermostat and after a few days of using and examining it in detail I wish to give you some honest user feedback about it. It is an absolutely great thermostat, one of the best on the market, but I think it could still use a bit of improvement.
Why I bought the Netatmo thermostat (and not one of the competitor smart thermostats) and what I love about it (most important first):
– The promise that soon there will be smart radiator valves working with it
– Integration with Amazon Echo
– Integration with the Domoticz home automation system
– IFTTT integration
– Separation of the thermostat from the relay module
– Elegant and simplistic design
– Portability of the thermostat (ability to easily move from one room to another, not necessary to mount it on a wall, has its own mobile stand)
– Detailed heating graphs on the web and in the mobile app
– E-ink display which saves battery and also no LED’s on the thermostat which bother the user at night
What could be improved:
– Release the smart radiator valves sooner than later
– Easier switching between different schedules. the web interface provides the possibility to easily switch between schedules through the use of a combo box, but the Android app does not. In the android app the user has to go through several clicks in the settings to change the current schedule. I personally have two schedules: “Work week” and “Stay at home”. Since I randomly find out in the morning whether I will have to go to the office or stay at home, I want to be able to quickly switch between these two schedules from my phone as soon as I wake up in the morning.
– The control of the target temperature is not precise enough. The target temperature can be changed in increments of 0.5 degrees, which I find to be not granular enough. For example a target temperature of 21.5 degrees is too low for me but a target temperature of 22 degrees is too high. I’d like to be able to change the target temperature in increments of 0.25 degrees.
– The control of the heating intervals is not precise enough. The start/end points of the intervals can be changed in increments of 15 minutes. I would like to be able to change the start/end points of the intervals with minute-level precision. For example I wish to set the end of the night mode at 6:23AM, not at 6:15AM or 6:30AM.
– The thermostat does not show the state of the boiler (On or Off). The web interface and the mobile app have this enhancement, but I would like to just glance at my thermostat and see if the boiler is on or off.
– Physically existing button on the thermostat to toggle the Away mode. Again, this can only be done from the web interface or from the mobile app, not from the thermostat itself.
– Better API. I took a look at the publicly available API and I can’t find a way to ask the thermostat whether the boiler is On or Off. Probably this is why I can’t ask my Amazon Echo about the status of the boiler and I also can’t see this in Domoticz.
– Better Amazon Echo skill. the current Amazon Echo skill is very limited. I can only change the set-point temperature. The skill won’t even tell me the current measured temperature. It won’t tell me the state of the boiler either. It does not allow me to use my Amazon Echo to set the thermostat to Away mode or to schedule mode. It feels like this skill has only been created for marketing purposes, for being able to advertise it’s existence, but in reality it has very limited capabilities.
– Better graphs on the web and in the mobile app. The graphs on the web are almost perfect. Their only problem is that they are not shown for the correct time intervals. For example when I’m looking at the graphs for the week I wish to see the data for the past 7 days, not for the current week. This is especially true at the beginning of a week. If I open the graphs on Monday, I don’t just want to see the data for Monday, I wish to see the data for the past 7 days. Same is true for month and year. The mobile app graphs should be the same as the web-based graphs. Currently the mobile graphs are a bit strange, I’m never exactly sure which period of time I’m seeing the data for.

Just installed the Netatmo thermostat. What is good with this thermostat is that there is two ways to install and set up. You can either use it to replace an existing wall thermostat or you can wire it up directly to your boiler and then install the thermostat in a any location in your home. I chose to go for the former, as I wasn’t keen on opening up my boiler and rewiring things.
To install you simply disconnect your existing wall thermostat, identify the appropriate wires needed, install the new mounting plate for Netatmo and then connect to the thermostat. This was probably the easiest part of the process as I was fortunate not to have complicated wiring and it was a pretty straightforward swap over. Thankfully my previous thermostat was similarly sized, therefor I didn’t need to use the bundled plastic plate. One feature that is really handy is regardless of what way up you install the Netatmo it automatically adjusts the screen orientation, in my case the wiring meant I needed to install the mount upside down. You also get a variety of bright coloured stickers to add to your Netatmo, I opted not to use one, preferring to have the white thermostat as is.
The second part of the installation requires you to set up the relay. This is the small box that connects to the internet and wirelessly connects to the thermostat. You need to plug this into a wall outlet in a location that is relatively close to the thermostat but also where it gets a decent wifi signal. This stage took a good three attempts to get going. On iOS the relay utilities the AirPort Accessory set up, essentially it copies your wifi information from your iPhone. This didn’t work on the first couple of attempts for me. Finally it connected, but then the relay wouldn’t connect to the thermostat. After turning everything off and on again, this seemed to get going.
The app itself is pretty self explanatory, you can also connect it to HomeKit on iOS, allowing you to add automations etc. The app will ask you for some information, like when you get up, go to work, come home and go to bed. It will then build a schedule. You can add additional schedules, i.e. if you’re on holiday or day off. Over time the thermostat learns information about it’s surroundings, i.e. how long it takes to heat up relative to the weather outside.
My initial impressions are that it’s pretty decent and straightforward to use. I’m not sure how accurate the thermostat is, as from initial monitoring the readings seem to differ quite a bit from my previous thermostat.

Works well. The App isn’t perfect but it is clear and easy to use. The way the programs work is clever as you create profiles and then schedule times of day for different profiles. This means that if I change the temperature I want overnight I only have to change the “night” profile rather than every night’s schedule.
When you set status to away you can schedule a time to return as well. In my house the default warm up time isn’t enough though so I need to schedule my return for a few hours before I’m actually expecting to be back until it learns the house characteristics. I will update on how well it handles the prediction once that kicks in.
The integration with Alexa works though it is limited. It overrides the target temperature for a default amount of time – this can be configured under the advanced settings.
Minor niggles:
– The display says “Frost-Guar.” when there is actually room for it to say “Frost-Guard”.
– It isn’t immediately clear which is the target and which is the current temperature on the display or app.
– The only way to toggle to the graph display is to turn your phone landscape which is fiddly – there should also be a button.
– The graph doesn’t start with the indicator line on the current time which can throw you for a moment
– The target temperature line sometimes has odd intermediate values as the graph data points aren’t on the hour and my time periods are.
– The horizontal lines on the graph are aligned with the percentage the heating was on rather than the temperature. I’d prefer them to align with the temperature, it really wouldn’t be hard to have them align with both by using 10,15,20,25,30 on the temperature axis!
I chose this product over Nest & Hive as it was about 40% cheaper and so far it seems to be working as expected.
It was fairly easy to install with the relay requiring a connection to the boiler thermostat terminal and it also requires a connection to a suitable mains power point – I connected to the boiler fused spur but it could just as easily be attached a plug. Using the phone app it then connects via bluetooth in order to set up the wi-fi for the device and then it all seemed to work.
As a bonus, you can set the temperature using an Amazon Echo. Make sure you give the device an easy name for the Echo such as “Home” and then you can simply say “set the home temperature to 20 degrees” for a boost as and when.
The app and the website allow you to organise the heating schedule and displays historical temperature data in the form of a graph. All seems perfectly ok to me and provides all the functionality that I would require.
Others reviews have mentioned the lack of customer support, but I have not run into any problems with mine, so cannot comment.
My only gripe would be the screws it supplies with the product to mount the relay (and thermostat if you wish) to the wall – they are bobbins – one turn with the screwdriver and the heads turn to mush – don’t even attempt to use them, get some alternative ones from your toolbox. When a product ships with such inferior screws, it does make you question the quality of the product – you normally get screws like that with cheap products from the discount stores.
Other than that, I give it 5 stars based on price and functionality.
Let me start by saying I have had every smart thermostat on the market running in my home…even before smart I was an early adopter of the great Honeywell System.
My Heating as follows
Worcester Bosch Greenstar 34cdi 2012
Total radiator output Downstairs 7.5kw
Bedrooms 4.1kw
Extension 3.2kw
Not Zoned
All have TRV valves (Drayton) appart from my Living room…
Replacing HIVE V2 …which works reliably interface wise…but is appaling at accurate measurements..overshoots constantly…no algorithm or Hysterisis or optimising…overall the HIVE is a overpriced badly implemented product….DONT BUY
Netatmo arrived today..first impressions…very well packaged and presented…easy to follow instructions…NO BRIDGE required..
Although the graphical dispaly on the HIVE is impressive you have to touch the button to see your temperature. The Netatmo has a always on EINK display..which is superb…you can always read it and UNLIKE Hive you can have it stand alone on a shelf or table..or it comes with a wall mount …no extra charge.
Thermostat accuracy is superb…matches my calibrated Fluke industrial in all locations …no other stat has managed that..response time is not too quick…but much quicker than the Hive.
Control parameters can be adjusted in advanced settings…it also begins learning immediately…but best of all for a modern modulating boiler…you can choose to try the algorithm…or use Hysterisis…I believe that with my Worcester the hysterisis may be better…I will update after four weeks,
Value for money is everything..at this price its a complete no brainer and easily the best available at the moment
It now works with geolocation by using IFTT and Lifestyle 360 on my Iphone…all free…you can download both and the heating will switch to away mode when last member leaves the house, and switch back to schedule when the first one returns..also you can get a log sent to you daily if away..etc etc..
A must buy..
Feel free to ask any questions
Had this for a few months now, and it’s functioning perfectly. Firstly, installation is a complete doddle. I bought this over the other alternatives as Netatmo actually seem to recognise that most people are capable of wiring it themselves. It’s incredibly easy with 4 wires that you just swap over from your old thermostat, or go directly to the boiler. Clear instructions, easy to follow. Took all of 15 minutes to wire up (I’m no sparky!). This got the thermostat working, although I was mystified by the “light flash pattern” codes briefly.
Now the “smart” bit – I downloaded the app, you also need to register an account, you can then connect to the thermostat. Mine immediately asked me to update the app/firmware before it would let me do anything. Seemingly after resetting itself a number of times, eventually it was ready to go (I had no idea what it was doing during the update process etc. but needed no intervention from me other than just opening the app).
The app is very simple and clear to use with a friendly interface allowing you to set the temperature, but also to set schedules. We’ve done it as a one-hit, and not really had to touch it since (set the weekly schedule up for different temperatures).
The greatest party trick of this for us has been the ability to remotely turn the heating off when we go away on holiday, and to turn it on the day before we come back to return to a toasty house. The thermostat has worked perfectly so far, without any glitches!
Way more reliable than the “dumb” wireless honeywell controller we had before which had the much publicised display failure. Given this cost the same as a replacement unit, with all its additional functionality, the Netatmo was a no-brainer.

Super easy to use, its pretty easy to install a bit of simple logic is all that’s required. The ‘relay’ has 2 wires for a constant live, and 2 wires that are simply a switch to request heat, you could if so inclined simply replace an existing thermostat with this (provided you find a permanent live as well) or you could, like I did remove your old thermostat and old programmer simply have the Netatmo.
Remembering the old thermostat is just an on/off switch, and the programmer is just an on/off switch that’s all your replacing two on/off switches with Netatmo as an on/off switch.
My suggestion would be download the wiring diagram of your existing thermostat and programmer, on my 2 channel programmer terminal 4 went to the thermostat which then connected to the mid section valve, so when heating was requested a live mains connection was passed from terminal 4 of the programmer into the thermostat then on to the white wire of the mid section valve thus requesting heat.
To replace this setup, which is probably fairly standard on a old style fully pumped heating/hot water system, I simply wired one of the Netatmo ‘switch’ wires into permanent live, the other end straight to the white wire on the mid section valve, thus bypassing the programmer and old thermostat, yet simulating the same signal as would be provided by the old programmer/thermostat.
Now of course on a system like mine the programmer is still required to run the hot water, but the ‘central heating’ channel of the programmer now does nothing, remember to remove terminal 4 wire, as it could still supply a live if the central heating was accidentally activated on the programmer
I’ve seen a couple of complains on other review sites stating that the Netatmo is a ‘volt free switching’ device thus incompatible with systems that require a 230v live, to that I say you did the right thing in sending the device back, clearly electricity is far to complicated a thing for you to be messing about with, I mean seriously if you’ve found a permanent live source for the Netatmo you’ve already found the live required for the switch! As demonstrated above.
If you have a more modern system like a combi-boiler I would have imagined its even easier to wire as you don’t have hot water wiring to worry about, I’ll be wiring a combi-boiler Netatmo next month for my Mum, will report back on how easy or difficult it is.
Personally I’d get the wiring of the relay sorted before doing the wifi/account setup, post wiring the rest of the setup is a doddle, there’s a couple of videos on youtube on how to setup the relay to your wifi, I opted to connect to my laptop via usb, it was really simple.
The reason I went for the Netatmo over the many many other options out there, it is very good value for money at this price, and its a complete kit, you don’t need an additional wifi relay to use this over the internet, the thermostat can be wall mounted or free standing, its all there. and coming soon will be the Netatmo smart radiator valves which will fit in with this system, sure Hive2 can do that too, but its twice the price.
Bought this product in the Xmas sales at a lower price than the usual 149. I did some research probably like yourselfs reading this now and still wasn’t fully committed to purchasing this thermostat. However the time came and it next thing you know the Post man drops it off.
Setup.
Ok let’s face it – from previous reviews, the setup can be slightly confusing to those that have no knowledge in wiring etc. I am no means an expert either however this is what google and YouTube is designed for. Do some research on your boiler find out where the electrical terminals are. Place the right coloured cables into the right holes which YouTube videos help you with and you’ll be absolutely fine! The only issues I had with the setup was once the relay system was installed you need to try and activate the wifi on it, this connects to your router through the Netatmo app and enables the relay to read your home network password, the app kept going into a loop and not establishing my relay. I reset the app and all the process had been complete.
The use.
Now don’t get me wrong I have only had this product for less than a week. So in terms of ‘lastability’ I can’t comment.
Everything about it is absolutely fantastic. I can move the thermostat into different rooms if I wish. The temperature readings very precise (not like my previous). It is so simple to use.
The app
This is where the brilliance lies. The Netatmo app for this product is excellent, you can customise your heating schedule so precisely each day of the week. You can also setup X amount of schedule if you so wish. It’s has some set temperatures stored for things like ‘night’, ‘eco’, ‘comfort mode’, ‘away’ and ‘frost mode’. You have the ability to change all the temperature settings on the app. I also like the fact that if you turn your smart phone sideways, it brings up a near as dammit minutely graph of the day showing when your heats been on, the temperature you want the house to be and the temperature that it is. Best feature for me is knowing your going to be home sooner than anticipated, going on the app turn your heating up slightly and bingo, a nice warm house to walk into!
Overall
If your contemplating a smart thermostat I highly recommend this one. I haven’t had to deal with customer services etc and my installation went swimmingly. A key stand out from this one to other competitors is that this one doesn’t have motion sensor for when you leave the house to turn your heating down. Not a problem in my eyes because before I leave I’ll just change the temperature or whilst I’m out I can go on the app and change it.
I hope this review helped in some way.
According to the expectations, simple to use, have the most important factories, works perfectly. It could be even more intelligent taking in consideration other alternatives…software improvements to allow for example to start automatically considering your distance to home and starting earlier according temperature and time needed to achieve the expected temperature!
But it’s a great product!
Very good buy and at a very competitive price. Not quite “as simple as wiring a plug” as the bumf suggests but do-able with a decent knowledge of the innards of your boiler and how to access them. Beware, however, if you have a Worcester Bosch boiler – fitting the relay requires removing the full casing to access the terminal block which may void your warranty if you are not qualified to do so.
Apart from that, relatively straight forward to install and get connected (after a couple of false starts with the app) and I can see how this is going to save me money! The boiler isn’t on half as much as before and the house is just as toasty!!
ordered this through Black Friday deals. I wanted to replace my old thermostat (IMIT TA2) .
I had difficulties with installation and had to call a technician due to the fact that wiring was weird at least in the house. So everything was working the opposite way than normal. (. If the house wiring was normal, it could be simply straight forward to do the installation alone.)
Old thermostat used 3 wires, live 220v, switch live and neutral. I replaced the old thermostat on the wall with relay and have the netatmo thermostat in living room , it works perfectly..
main reasosn for the replace was
-old thermostat didn’t work correctly- it was working like an on/off switch. Small light was always on, so it was the electrovalve and the boiler.
-wanted to have the thermostat in living room and not in the corridor
-wanted to remotely control it (through wifi) so to turn it on before i arrive home so to find a warm home when arriving.
the rest , PID and other futures are not so critical for me and just nice to have . So far so good, it works as expected.
just to add 2 notes for other users that might dig in the internet for information for their future purchase
1. It is not very clear (from the installation manuals) and you need to search in the forums to find out that someone can replace their old thermostat (ie in the corridor ) with the relay and have the thermostat floating here and there (it works with batteries anyway).
I suppose many people understand from the instructions that they have to install the relay it into boiler room or somewhere near.
This is not always the case it seems..
2. in the netatmo forum regarding the thermostat, when someone asks for some information -advise for the installation/replacement of old thermostat, when netatmo support sees a 3 wire old thermostat they always send an advise and an emai that the installation is not compatible with their product. And give you an advise to use an extra relay 220v.
I can tell you that this is not always the case. . I had 3 wires but one was netral (mainly use for turning on the small light on old thermostat). I didn’t need a relay to do the installation
3. support is just not there. They don’t answer the emails. I had sent email to netatmo prior to the purchase , sent them photos to check compatibility , contacted support when had issues with installation (which finally was a house problem and not tetatmo’s).
Their automated mail response is that we are busy at this time, and we will look soon to the problem when we find some time to deal with you.
it is just insane. (it seems that they are so sure for their product that they just don’t give a s**t if someone can’t make it and need some extra help)
Pity, that support thing make them loose new sales for sure.
I give 5 stars for the product (since it does what i wanted). if in the near future stops working as expected, might come back to revise
For their support , i would give them 1 star, but you know, it is them that they loose sales. As long as that thing works and not needed their help i am ok
ordered this through Black Friday deals.

Purchased from Amazon when on Cyber Monday offer. It is HomeKit Edition.
Installation was super easy , I was a little afraid as my boiler is over 10 year old, but all went smoothly. Instructions included with thermostat were sufficient. Everything was covered if it comes to wiring and setup with Netatmo app.
The only minor thing I would mention… Netatmo recommends to install relay at least 30 cm away from the boiler (or any metallic objects).. to do that, they would have to provide longer boiler adapter. I ended up putting relay less than 30 cm from boiler, luckily so far didn’t have any problems with relay dropping from the wireless. It could happen as metallic objects absorb radio waves and worsen WiFi reception. (if problems will occur I will have to consider lengthening cables to relay or extending my WiFi reception with some WiFi boosters)… so far so good though.
Adding to HomeKit is easy as well, although I cant work out how to set up scenes with it. They are all set up but it doesn’t behave the way it should (in my opinion) . If it is my fault I will change review to 5 stars .
Using the app is great, super easy to use. Simplistic design – which is advantage for me. My thermostat is still in learning mode but I already know it will save me money (maybe not advertised >30%… but it definitely will)
I took a time to choose the thermostat and I believe I made the right choice. Simple design, HomeKit integration, remote control, custom schedules, Thermostat learning algorithms , radiator valves (hopefully available soon)…
Happy Netatmo Thermostat owner.

I don’t often write reviews, but this thermostat is very easy to install, very easy to setup and will hopefully pay for itself. I rather like its minimalist looks and as long as you only have two control wires behind your thermostat that controls the heating it should be as easy to install as mine, installed and working in less than 20mins
Product was easy to install on a Worchester boiler that was lacking an existing Thermostat. Set-up of app was also easy, as was syncing it with Amazon Echo.
The aesthetics of the product turn the thermostat into a shelf ornament.
Only had the product for a couple of days, so can’t comment on it’s longer term use.
Great product with really good features that work very well. Easy to install once you work out the details. but the instructions are not comprehensive and the download link on the website for the manual does not work. Support from Netatmo over wiring was very slow which is a shame.
Firstly my old thermostat was wired , which made the job so easy. It’s great so easy to program profiles and copy them. Works well with Amazon Echo , but will be glad when it becomes Smartthings compatible. I look forward to seeing how much my bills have reduce this Winter
Ia
Bought this as it was the cheapest smart thermostat on the market, and the Netatmo website has a very easy guide on if your home heating is compatible which helped me choose this over a Nest or Hive system.
The physical installation was very quick and easy to follow, simply disconnected the old heating controls on my boiler and wired the provided cable into the heating switch socket.
However the app and wireless setup was extremely frustrating, it took 6 attempts to get the unit to join the WiFi network and communicate with the Netatmo servers, then it attempted to apply a firmware update that failed the first time, then skipped it when I had to retry the setup.
Now that it is up and working the unit still occasionally reports that it can not connect to the netatmo servers, or that it can not communicate with HomeKit – this isn’t a local issue as I can see the unit passing traffic through my access point and router (both of which are enterprise grade equipment), I’ve even started to packet capture the traffic to see what it is trying to do.
However the convenience of being able to control the heating from my phone or via Alexa on my Echo is great, and when it works, it is flawless.
This is an easy to fit thermostat, although not quite ‘as easy to install as changing a light bulb’
I have had ours installed for over 6 months now and I have not had any problems at all. After a couple of weeks it learnt our thermal values and now adjusts the on time to take into account the outside temperature. It also emails a monthly report on our energy usage.
The Android app seems to work fine and lets you adjust the temp from your phone even when you are away.
I also control ours through Amazon Alexa via IFTTT and it seems to work perfectly.
Using voice to control the house temperature seems so natural now !
I had an electrician install mine, so can’t comment upon ease of installation. However in terms of setting it up and using the app, I found it very intuitive. Nice and easy to create different schedules for different lifestyles (i.e. if working away, or if spending a period at home – such as over Christmas). Very easy to chop and change between different schedules, and to change heat settings for a short time as an override. I’ve also been finding the stats useful, in particular seeing how long it actually takes to heat the house to an acceptable temperature and then how long it retains the heat for after reducing the thermostat.
Great bit of kit.
Best value of the ‘smart’ thermostats. Ease of installation depends on your boiler. In my case the boiler and its maintenance manual proved incompatible, so rather than risk it I got an electrician in. Everything else was very straightforward, though my daughter found the laptop based schedule editor a bit counter intuitive.
I have absolutely no DIY skills so chose this system as it is easy to install. Indeed it is about the only smart heating control that suggests that self installation is possible. From my experience home installation is possible if you are replacing a wired thermostat with this Netatmo. It involves replacing the wired thermostat with the Netatmo unit using the same wiring. It is brilliant in these circumstances but the installation process is long winded. So 5 stars but contact me on how to set up
brilliant product, a lot less complicated to use and fit than Nest and Hive,I simply swapped my existing wall thermostat with this and used the relay plugged into a wall socket rather than wired directly into the boiler, then connect the relay to your wifi network and your good to go, creates its own algorythm just the same as the other two, the App is easy to use with lots of settings and features.
The thermostat is a lot more accurate than a standard thermostat, and works in tenths of degrees, so we no longer need to be too cold or too hot anymore.
Note: this is only to remotely control your heating and not hot water as well.
I would highly recommend this product.
This says DIY, and it is. Wire colours are not always the same, but it is only a 3 wire connection. Setting up can be a bit trickier and I had to use a different socket for the transmitter/receiver, and setting up the daily routine can be tedious, but if you do the same each day, it will quickly learn how you use the system. Paid for itself after 1st holiday. Turned off the heating in the car, turned it back on again 10 days later. Pennies (or pounds) saved for me, house warm for hers truly. Veritably a win/win.
I needed something that I could control but visitors couldn’t re-program as we have holiday lets and this is ideal. They can boost up the temperature for half an hour using the thermostat, but then it goes back to the pre-set program. Lots of useful configuration and tweaks. Has been working well for 6 months in 2 locations with no issues.
Wanted a new thermostat to replace an inaccurate mechanical one and decided that Nest and Hive were too expensive. I was impressed from the moment I opened the box and the effort the company have taken with the design is clear to see. The instructions are basic but the Internet didn’t let me down and there is a tonne of info out there to help. The fitting was easy once I worked out a way to mount the thermostat which was smaller than my previous one. Now it’s up and running I have to say I like it. The app it runs off is clean and uncluttered and although it’s only been several hours I’d swear the boiler hasn’t been on as much. This seems to be the perfect compromise between function and cost. Looking forward to tomorrow morning and cranking the heat up from my bed.
Easy to install as I only replaced a two wire wall thermostat. Thermostat fixing sems a bit flimsy but once it’s up and running you don’t need to touch it as you can do everything on your phone/tablet/computer. Connected itself to the wifi easily.
It keeps a much more steady temperature than the old mechanical thermostat and is getting even better as it is learning the characteristics of the heating system. It is very interesting to look at the temperature graph it produces to see how the temp changes overnight etc. Easy to set up programs for different temps at various times and different days of the week.
Excellent product has been fitted for about a month now and has successfully profiled the thermal profile of my house so that it can accurately predict when it need to switch on the heating to reach the target temperature I have set at the time I have set it taking into account the outside temperature and the thermal lag of my house. The mobile apps work well on iOS, Android and Windows Phone. This is one of the few connected thermostats that have a Windows Phone app. In summary everything works as described, it was really easy to install and is very easy and intuitive to use both the thermostat manually or through the app or web interface.
I took a long time considering options for a remote thermostat, looking at others from Nest, Hive, etc. I decided on the Netatmo because the phone app looked good, the unit itself is freestanding and attractive and it seem simple enough to install.
Overall, I have been very pleased. Installation was not without some issues due to the type of boiler that I have but a quick question from the official support forum was answered by customer services and I was able to install successfully. Setup was easy enough and I have had no connection problems over the past year.
It is great being able to just turn on the heating from work before I leave. There are all sorts of very clever models and weather sensing settings in this system but I have liked just operating the thermostat manually.
The loss of one star is only due to the fact that the hardware has now been updated to take advantage of Apple Homekit but this is not backward compatible. If you own an older version of the Netatmo, it can’t be updated to work with the new system. Hopefully support for non-homekit users will continue.
I looked at a variety of thermostats before deciding on this one, based on what facilities it offered as well as cost. 2 weeks after installation it cropped up as a lightning sale and I could have saved 40, but hey!
Installation took just over 1 hour. I had contacted Netatmo to verify that the thermostat would fit my boiler and they responded promptly with a link to the online manual for the boiler which contained a wiring schematic.
All I had to do was remove the front cover and unscrew the control panel. No further dismantling was necessary as all connections needed for installation were exposed
What took the time was trying to squeeze both mains feed and feed to the boiler adaptor into the same connector hole. Eventually, I just cut the soldered tails off the wires, twisted them and stuck them back in. Screwed the adaptor on the wall, fitted relay and tested that it was connected properly as per Netatmo instructions. Perfect.
Another 5 minutes to connect up a laptop to the relay and make the connection to the wifi network. Got the thermostat in the living room and soon everything was up and running.
Used iPad to adjust the pre-set schedules to my needs and thereafter the heating came on exactly when I had set it and switched off when the room reached the desired temperature and at the end of the schedule. Just over a week later the iPad indicated a notification that my heating requirements had been worked out and a personalised algorithm was ready should I wish to use it – which I did.
Now the system takes account of the outside temperature, having set the house location on a map in the app., and how long it takes to heat up the living room. So now when I want the house to be toasty, it is.
The app and webpage helped me see when the boiler was being switched on and for how long. As I only had a timer on the boiler in addition to radiator thermostats, I expect to see a real reduction in the amount of gas being used. The other rooms in the house are slightly cooler but as these are not used as much, it is not really an issue. If I move to another room then I just move the thermostat, or up the set temperature.
One thing to note if you, like me, have a stone built house. My boiler is in a utility room built on the rear of the house with a thick stone wall between. To avoid wifi issues, I installed a wifi repeater, which has worked well. The thermostat works well through the stone wall and an internal wall. However, if I move into a different wing of the house, the radio contact between the thermostat and relay drops out.
Looking forward to comparing this year’s energy bills with last year’s to see how the thermostat has impacted.
Very impressive. Clever learning algorithms, and I love being able to control my heating from my phone/tablet.
It would be even better if:
(1) it could link in with IFTTT (so I could for example tell it to automatically switch to ‘Away’ when I’m more than 100 miles from home) [UPDATE: this is now possible]
(2) it could be expanded to allow zones (if Netatmo developed sensors which could attach to each radiator) so then I could have different schedules in different rooms (Honeywell Evohome allows this)
I am using Netatmo Thermostat now for over a month and I am very very satisfied with it.
I love that I can set my temperature from everywhere now using either mobile app or web page.
Webpage is nice to use, mobile app is even better, really clean and nice.
It is very precise regarding managing the temperature in the room. The prediction mode is very useful and again very precise.
When I was buying it one of the biggest selling points for me was API, since I am a developer, I love it that I can play with it using API.
There are some minor thing that could be improved, like indicator on the main unit to show you if boiler is on or not.
I would love to see the outside temperature (which is taken from web source) on the graphs.
Maybe some advance developer options, like adding your own data to the graphs…
Anyway… highly recommended!
Works brilliantly and really easy to fit. Has made an amazing difference to the comfort levels in the house as well. Too early to say if there is any fuel saving but there is bound to be. If you are are away a lot the ability to turn on your heating and have toasty warm home waiting for you when you get in is pure luxury as well.
Installation slightly more complicated than I had hoped, but I had excellent support from Netatmo who advised how to proceed. After having it for a month it has just switched on a new mode that understands the thermal characteristics of our house, so we can just update our schedule to say what temperature and when. The thermostat then figures out what time it needs to switch on the boiler accordingly. Highly recommended if it is compatible with your heating.
After 2 faulty units that both had problem with the displays. I finally got a working unit and I’m very impressed with it, easy to fit & operate I just hope it’s reliable & lasts as I was close to giving up with this brand.
Amazon were fantastic as usual in sending out the replacements
I’d love to have given this 6 stars – it’s such a neat bit of kit and seems easy to use. Unfortunately, despite the website advice, it was not compatable with my system/thermostat, so had to be returned.
Whilst being easy to set up be aware that if you are replacing an existing wired wall thermostat that has a standard (uk) wall box mount, the screw holes on the netamo plate do not line up!
I think I had to mount it in the end using just 2 screws so it’s not as solidly mounted as I’d like.
That aside, it was very easy to install and set up.
The app is very clever. There are a couple of things that could be simplified but I’m impressed how it’s starting to learn heating patterns.
I’d really like it if I could compare different heat plans in terms of “total burn time” on the boiler… though it may well be doing that as part of its own optimisation.
It looks good as well, though the use of the stick on colours could be improved maybe with some coloured perspex instead.
I bought it at a reduced price and I’m impressed overall. I’ll keep an eye on the bills (or rather amount of oil used) to see if it really does help reduce your heating costs.
Just fitted this thermostat and it works spot on.
Comes with all instructions and the netatmo website even has a compatability section to see if its suitable for your boiler. Ok you cant speak on the phone to support but they answer quickly by email. Once wired up you set the receiver up from your phone, tablet or pc by bluetooth. Enter your wifi password and your done.
only one uk video clip on youtube.
Works well.
I purchased this a few weeks ago because a previous Salus thermostat/programmer was playing up……..indicating new battery required, and also the same after replacing battery. In the end I didn’t want it to fail over Christmas so decided to replace it. We have a condensing boiler and the thermostat has been on the wall in the cooler hall. I checked out various thermostats including typical old style ones, Hive, Nest, etc. Eventually I plumped for the Netatmo……..it seemed to do all the others did and sometimes a little more. I also baulked at the cost of the Nest though liked it’s styling. The Netatmo is a little cruder….i.e. is box shaped but also has the ability to stand in the living room without requiring a stand.
The Netatmo thermostat has performed faultlessly, the packaging was very well designed and thought out, fitting was easy though I still haven’t mounted the small box on the wall by the boiler. No drill at the time. Ooops! The actual temperature is quite dark just as in the photos and can be seen across the room quite nicely (which is good); the set temperature is just a grey outline. The colour I chose was the yellow which turns out is a little acid looking and quite faint in reality. I might swap it for the orange at some point. Picking the unit up off the mantelpiece usually means the temperature is adjusted up or down in error (something to watch).
The app is well thought out and gives a representation which looks just like the thermostat itself (great idea), and remote setting by Iphone 5s and Ipad Air has also been great. Displaying historical temperature and actual temperature appears to have an issue with scaling as the set temperature line disappears at certain scalings……disconcertingly displaying 0 degC instead and no orange line on the graph. Easily changed by manually altering the scaling on the display. I like the fact that graphs are displayed on the Iphone by rotating the phone to landscape mode (shame that’s not the case on the Ipad too). After a couple of weeks it offered the PID calibration to be used which I have accepted. Thus far we are very pleased with it and we are looking forward to the first email of usage and advice in a few weeks time. Recommended product, well thought out, minor tweaks to the app perhaps but overall well done Netatmo!
Look forward to more products from you.
Easy to install and set up. Have been using it for a couple of weeks now and am happy. The reason that it doesn’t get 5 stars is the
fact it comes with an EU 2 pin plug and no adaptor. BE WARNED
Really pleased with this. Bought it as it was in the Lightning deals but would happily get again at normal price. Very simple to install – I was replacing one the builders installed a few months ago but was rubbish.
Really like the app and the ability to control from the phone. Means I can leave the house for the weekend and turn the heating down so to avoid wasting money, then turn it up an hour or so before we arrive home.
Hoping there will be future app integrations to more devices and third party kit in the near future.
The thermostat was very easy to fit – just had to transfer 2 wires from the old thermostat to the new. The Android app is very easy to use, and we now set the temp to “Away” whenever we are going out for a few hours, followed by reactivating the system when we are about 30 minutes from getting back home. A friend of mine was so impressed, that he even had me order one for him!
Everything I needed. I taped and hid the live & earth wires, and it worked first time. Brilliant with the app both in the house and away. I look forward to smart heating management and maybe a lower bill or two. Left it on Frost, and in France after a week switched it back up, so a warm house on return to UK. Works perfectly.
Brilliant do not hesitate. Simple installation and works perfectly. After 2 weeks it now keeps the house when we are in at a perfect 19c. When we go out just set to out and it reduces the tempreture to 12c. And then when we are on our way home switch off out from my mobile and the house is up to 19c when we return. Brilliant. Even turns down to a perfect 17c at night.
I think it will save up a packet, my wife is always going out and leaving the heating on full blast. Now I can turn it up and down remotely.
The house just seems so much more comfortable no more hot or cold periods. Just right all the time.
Simply Brilliant. If you are looking for a smart thermostat for your home heating system then you don’t need to look any further.
Having spent much time researching all the available brands / options available I eventually settled on the Netatmo and am glad I did.
Like the product offered by Nest the Netatmo is intelligent and learns your personal usage patterns, eventually predicting when you want heat by itself. It does this by the use of a heating algorithm which learns your heating demands and your homes heat characteristics, and also uses local weather reports for heating prediction.
This is something that the hive product offered by British gas does not do, essentially that product is nothing more than a fairly blunt remote control, which may be suitable for many but was not what i was looking for. This also goes for similar products like the Salus it500.
Another plus is that this product was designed for the European market from the ground up unlike the nest which had to be adapted for the European market. This made the installation process (in my case) an absolute doddle, It really was just a case of removing the old Thermostat and connecting this one in its place and plugging the supplied wireless relay in an available socket, job done! But dont worry if you get any problems or if you just want reassuring about the process there is lots of support available on the Netatmo forum (link available on the main Netatmo website but it is – _http://forum.netatmo.com/ ).
The interface used to control and set up the Netamo is also very good and easy to use, whether you use the web interface or the available phone / tablet Apps.
Another big bonus here is that if you have a windows phone there is also an App available for you, something for some reason many other manufactures fail to cater for so a big thumbs up to Netatmo for that.
The dashboard allows you to schedule limitless amounts of on/off periods and indeed when you first use the app it presents you with a small quiz / questionnaire to help you set up your own personalised schedule.
It saves all your historical temp data, boiler on off periods, and shows you your usage stats in graph form which you can access at any time and also download as you wish. It really is very interesting to see how your home uses heat and and how good it is at storing it, giving you a good indication of the efficiency of your homes insulation.
Turning temperature up and down on demand is simple whether using your phone app or pc or locally at the thermostat itself (local manual temperature control is not available with the Tado system, something else that may be worth considering when making your decision on which to buy).
So in conclusion would i recommend the Netatmo Thermostat? quite simply YES YES YES
Fitting this thermostat to my boiler took no more than 20 minutes – most time was spent taking the covers off!
The base unit connected straight away, and using the iPhone App everything connected within seconds – really impressive. Now we can monitor how we use the heating, even turning the system on from the car when we are on our way home. There are other similar products out there – but this must be the best! I’m looking forward to adding to my Netatmo network with the weather station.
