Taking a gamble, but hope that this thermostat continues to perform well. The trouble with computer tech is that it can play up. If this continues to be as stable as it is, then I will improve my review. The general comfort level in my house is more consistant than my very old programmable thermostat. Good.
Have had this thermostat for sometime now & it works great. The app is good & it’s easy to make changes, even when away from home. The Web login is good and gives some idea of how your homes heating is working & how long the boiler’s actually on for. The Web page also gives monthly reports on how well you compare to each month & to neighbourhood homes. Tech support were really good when we changed our boiler & needed to figure out how to wire it in. Thermostat works well with Alexa to, just enable the Netatmo skill & ask Alexa to change the temperature & away you go. Altogether I think this is a good looking & smart piece of kit.
Having researched all of the smart thermostats and valves that can connect to HomeKit it appears that Netatmo is the only system that doesn’t try to charge you monthly subscriptions for “additional” features. You buy the kit, install it, and that’s it. Before purchasing I sent a message to their technical team to ask a pre-scales question and received a response answering my question in full within 1 business day. Looking good. A product that gets good reviews, no extra monthly charges, technical support that seem to be on the ball. So I proceeded with a purchase of a thermostat and a single rad valve.
Installation of the thermostat is a piece of cake. No more complicated than swapping a light switch. The unit itself seems well made and has a good quality feel. It looks smart, but not overly fussy and the display is clear and simple to read. A very nice touch is that you can orient the thermostat in one of two ways and the unit detects which way is up to rotate the display automatically. I like that. Good design.
Setting up the hub is similarly a straightforward thing to do. Basically, just plug it in. Download the app, and you’re done for a basic setup. All in all it took less than 1 hour including a basic software setup which is painless.
I then installed the smart rad valve. Again, easy to do with clear instructions. It took just a few minutes to identify the correct adapter for my old thermostatic valve.
Here’s a tip: you’ll probably find that your old valves have seeped a little and there may be some limescale or other general crud around the pin of the valve. I scratched this away with a screwdriver, brushed off the debris and then checked the pin movement. It wasn’t completely stuck, but very stiff. A couple of squirts of WD40 and a bit of a gentle tap and the pin was free and moving nicely. If you don’t check for this you’ll find that your new smart valve might not be able to move the pin and open/close the actual valve.
The whole installation of the TRV took about 15 minutes including valve cleaning. But that was my first time. Subsequent installs have speeded up – about 5 minutes per go. I’ve been impressed enough to go ahead and purchase another 12 valves to equip all of the radiators in my house.
The system is very easy to use and setup and provides that rare thing: simplicity and yet the ability to create complex configurations if you need to. You can create multiple heating schedules, with different temperate bands for different time slots, and different temperatures for each room in a band. If you really want to. If not, let the built-in guide set it up for you and you’re done.
I have a 5-bedroomed house and work from home, so wanted to create a comprehensive setup, where some rooms are heated during the day, others not, all the rooms at night, but some, such as bedrooms, to lower temperatures. No problem. It can do all that.
HomeKit linkage is fine – it just works. Siri can do her thing and you can remote control temperature in each room without any difficulty.
The best feature in my option is the ability to have an individual radiator valve call for heat. That’s something a traditional setup cannot do. For example, during the working week I can configure the rest of the house to run at a lower heat, and keep just the office at a comfortable level. When the temperate on that radiator gets low, the valve can open, call for heat through the wireless system, and have the boiler turn on. The other valves will stay shut due to their programmed temperature. The result: you heat the room you want, and not the whole house.
That is the whole point of a smart system: fine grained control and accurate temperature setting. I have a smart meter and I’ve been comparing the gas usage from the heating system over the past few days. It’s getting colder outside, but I can already see savings, and the house feels like it has a more comfortable even temperature spread.
Like others have said – you need to let the system settle in. Firmware updates will need to be sent to each valve to give them all of the above features. It’s fully automatic, but it can take a day or two. Most of my valves updated overnight, but some took a little longer. Be patient.
All in all, for a setup with 14 valves and a thermostat it isn’t cheap. But it is good quality, it works very well, and it very much does seem to save money and distribute heat much more effectively. In todays energy conscious and environmentally sensitive times, this seems like a very good investment.
Does exactly what it is meant to do, app is good and easy to understand
My original thermostat is an ancient honeywell brass coloured thing that is annoyingly placed in the hallway, one of the coldest places in my house, causing the heating to be on when it’s not needed raising the temps to unbearable levels in the rest of the home.
Its also up near the ceiling, meaning to adjust it requires a step ladder or guesswork at arms length. It’s really just a terrible position for ease of use.
The intended documented use of this thermostat seems to suggest you either:
– connect it straight to a boiler. – giving you a mobile thermostat.
– replace your old thermostat in-situ – giving you a fixed thermostat where your old one was.
Both of these are useless to me, but I persevered. Following the wiring back from the old thermostat to the wiring centre next to my programmer I wired in the relay module into the same connections the old thermostat used and the mains supply. Disconnecting the old one at the same time.
This then gave me a mobile thermostat unit, that communicates with the relay unit which acts like my old thermostat issuing the call for heat when required.
There is one down side. Due to the way my system is wired this now means I had to permanently set the heating side of my programmable controller to “On”.
This then enables the netatmo device to properly control the heat as and when required. My boiler isn’t permanently on, it only turns on as and when netatmo calls for heat so now netatmo basically performs the task of my programmable controller at least for the heating side, my hot water control is untouched as this netatmo device doesn’t support that.
So far (granted its summer so my heating isn’t exactly on properly) it’s been working great and as expected.
I installed this to replace an existing wireless thermostat, which had consisted of a control box and wirelessly connected thermostat – units equivalent to the Netatmo’s relay and thermostat units. As my boiler is sited outside the house, there was already wiring in place providing connections to match those on the relay adaptor cable, which becomes merely an extension to the existing wiring. Connecting up the unit up for testing has been easy, though to make a tidy job of the final installation and hide the cables I am going to have to cut off and discard all but a short length of cable from the relay adaptor. It is a pity that the relay can’t be mounted on the UK patress (or backbox) that the original control unit was mounted on, as it would have made the installation easier and tidier.
Having connected the relay, and tested that it was working, I turned to the thermostat unit, inserted the batteries, and attached it to its back for use as a free-standing and portable item. Every thing worked exactly as is it should, but on turning back to the relay I saw the light was flashing, and it refused to return to a steady on or off, even after being power-cycled. At this point I assumed that the unit was faulty, but was interrupted by a phone call, and wen I returned about an hour later the problem, whatever it had been, seemed to have resolved itself. I therefore set up a Netatmo account, and tried to use it to setup the relay. However, my phone was permanently unable to find it.
Up to this point I had been following the instructions provided. As setup through the phone app had failed, I deployed Plan B – which login to the Netatmo website on my laptop, download and run the setup wizard app, and connect the relay to the laptop using the USB cable provided. The relay was instantly recognised, and the first thing to happen was a firmware update. It was then just a matter of selecting the wifi network to use, entering the network password and then entering the credentials for my new Netatmo account. Everything was now done, so I re-connected the relay to the relay adaptor, and let it to connect to the relay.
My next step, having demonstrated that everything was working, was to introduce the unit to HomeKit, via the Home app on my iPhone. This was easy, with the setup code displayed at the appropriate moment on the display of the thermostat. Again everything now seems to work perfectly, and if anything should go wrong I’ll amend this review to reflect it! I would just note here that whilst the relay is quite quick to respond to “on” signals from the thermostat, it takes significantly longer to respond to “off” signals. However, and the delay is typically <20secs this is not important, even if it may be worth noting.
So, this itemt is well-designed, apparently will-built, and easy to install and setup - with the proviso that you may need to wait for some time before the relay becomes available for configuration, and you may need to actually configure it using a laptop rather than the phone app. Those two little glitches aside I have found this to be a very simple and straightforward installation.
I was so please with this device that I subsequently installed a number of Netatmo thermostatic radiator valves, and it is here that I have found a decided weakness in the Netatmo system. All the devices - thermostat and radiator valves - communicate directly with the Relay unit, which contains the "smarts" of the system, using a non-wifi private wifeless network. For the most part this works perfectly. However, I live in an old house with thick walls, and the location of one radiator means that the signal between it and the relay must travel at a very shallow angle through a 2' thick brick wall, which so attenuates the signal that the valve intermittently (and apparently randomly) disconnects from the Relay - sometimes for hours at a time. There seems to be no way to overcome this limitation: Netatmo valves do not seem to cooperate with one another in forwarding signals, and unlike some other manufacturers Netatmo do not have the facility to add any form of signal extender device.
I purchased this thermostat to have wireless control of my caravan boiler. Twenty minutes to connect the relay to the boiler ( 4 wires ) and have the thermostat up and running. Very straight forward and has worked flawlessly meaning we can have the caravan warm on arrival.
It’s great for me as boiler is in the back of my house and my boiler has timer clocks built in to boiler now I can set it by app or ask Alexa to turn the heating on or off and was really easy to install and set up
Really easy to install and set up. The app is also simple to use. Temp is approx 1/2 degree out which is acceptable.
Tech support was difficult, it took a long time to get the information I wanted and was upsetting. But aside from that, the actual control and app is wonderful.
I’d probably buy Nest if I had the money. But good for people like me
A bit on the pricey side compared to a lot of the others on the market but still a great bit of ki
After years of struggling with a non-smart wireless Drayton thermostat remote which nobody understood how to use, we bit the bullet and did some research into modern heating controls. I wanted a simple-to-use system with no ongoing subscription, native HomeKit integration, manual overrides for when the Internet is playing up and the option to expand our investment at a later date with extra controllers. In the end I chose Netatmo’s thermostat, which is definitely one of the better looking options on the market (a happy coincidence).
We managed to install the main hub without any problems at all – a straightforward replacement for the old Drayton – and it immediately interfaced with our Vaillant combi boiler as though they were childhood friends. The e-ink screen on the portable thermostat doesn’t drain the batteries fast and the actual thermostat hub by the boiler is wired in so there’s no tinkering required after the initial installation. There’s an option to screw the portable thermostat controller block to a wall but I quite like being able to carry it around, it’s attractive enough to sit by a clock and look like part of the decor. One of the quirks of the design is that you can customise the white gadgets with the provided coloured stickers (the stock art uses orange but you can go green, blue, yellow or leave it white if you prefer) in order to match your room. It’s a cute gimmick even though the actual colours are quite subtle.
A few weeks have passed since then and I haven’t been cold for a moment since – finally, I’m in control of our heating! The Netatmo app (also accessible via the website, conveniently) records everything in detail so you can track your boiler usage and get as familiar with your home’s heating demands as you want. If you don’t care, it’s just one click to make things warmer/colder. You can schedule each day’s healing independently and override the schedule with a temporary boost if you’re feeling particularly chilly. Apple’s HomeKit support is smooth and easy to set up. I was originally planning on using HomeKit on its own but the Netatmo app has stayed around for quick access to all of the heating logs and nerdy details. It’s a solid piece of software.
I was initially worried about support from reading other reviews but the one time I needed to contact Netatmo support via Twitter they were courteous and gave me a quick response in fluent English. The smart radiator valves (TRVs) you can optionally install to get finer control of your heating room-by-room come with a set of adapters which happened to be unsuitable for our radiators, and because of the daft post-Brexit UK VAT rules it was difficult to obtain the extra adapters we needed from the continent. No problem – Netatmo sorted me out and we’ve just ordered another batch of the valves to set up the rest of the house for smart heating. I’m satisfied that this was the best smart thermostat for my needs.

Works brilliantly, app and Siri control working well. As an apple HomeKit user I’m really happy
Easy to fit to existing heating system, paired with My Home on iOS first time. Temperature control is spot on. Haven’t needed tech support so can’t comment.
I love this thermostat. Sure, it has a simplistic design and may not have all the bells and whistles of some of the more popular brands but I consider that to be a very good thing. These Netatmo thermostats epitomise the expression “less is more”.
I don’t consider myself to be a DIY expert by any means but installation of these is so simple I had mine up and running in 15-20 minutes. Unlike some of the other brand’ smart thermostats where you have to either be happy with fiddling with wires on your boiler and finding a location for their relay (or whatever they’re calling it), or call in a professional, if you have a simple 2-wire set-up like I do, these are super easy to install:
1. Turn off the mains.
2. Remove you old thermostat
3. Connect the wires to the Netatmo thermostat
4. Secure it on the wall with the plugs and screws
5. Plug in the Netatmo relays
6. Configure it via the app on your smartphone
7. Wait a few minutes for the relay to connect to the thermostat
8. Configure a schedule by following the prompts
9. Optionally, play around with other settings in the app or HomeKit (if you’re using iOS)
10. 9. Put your feet up and enjoy the warmth, a coffee and two shortbread biscuits… okay, fine, this is optional too.
Seriously though, as far as I’m concerned, smart homes should be as self-installable and self-configurable as possible, otherwise, it’s not so smart. Thank you Netatmo for making this installation thing so easy. I now have two up and running in my home.
Not the easiest to set up via the manuals so just use the videos on YouTube. Had issue with router and used the guidance on tech support. Works fine and does the job. Recommended
Having the ability to control the house temperature throughout the week via the app, having tge app then learn from your heating profile and offer assistance and being able to do it remotely is fantastic. Admittedly I haven’t left the house in weeks but you get the idea.
Great product. Very happy. Installation is also not too tricky, with very clear online help.
Excellent product, and great value for money. Full integration with Apple HomeKit. Although I did not install this myself, it took a gas engineer less than 30 minutes start to finish. Netatmo have readily become my go-to brand for easy-to-use smart home accessories, and as always this product exceeds my expectations for simplicity, reliability and effectiveness. I would certainly recommend this smart thermostat to any buyers considering purchasing one who have no previous experience using one. Although it is super easy to set up with one’s smartphone and works alongside a very intuitive Netatmo App (simultaneously with Apple’s own Home App), you don’t even really need a smart phone to use it, as the accompanying thermostat control can be placed anywhere near-by the boiler in your home.
Worked a charm with a Valliant boiler.
App basics are easy enough but there are a lot of advanced settings that are spread out and hard to find.
Very easy to instal and operate “It does what it says on the box”
Amazing product. Saves loads of money in the long run and controllability is fantastic!
I was looking for a smart thermostat as a direct replacement for my old, wired thermostat. My Wi-fi hub is on the other side of the hall. This is the perfect solution. Dead easy to install, looks great; I like the minimalist design. The app, which you control the heating schedules and temperature, is easy to use and really nicely designed. I like the fact that the temperature can also be easily adjusted on the wall unit aswell. Integration with Alexa is pretty good.
Absolutely first class product, from the design by Philipe Stark, through to installation, commissioning and running for over 3 years now. I have one of these devices in two houses and they are reliable and very easy to use. Coupled with the great mobile App, they are a dream. Truly, a top of the field product. I am delighted with both of them.
I had an old 3-wire thermostat that wasn’t functioning correctly (see photo of wiring). I replaced the thermostat by wiring the live and the boiler output to the Netatmo (no polarity) and insulating off the Neutral wire and tucking it back into the wall (since all it was used for was to power a small heater inside the old thermostat to increase its accuracy – it serves no role with the Netatmo).
Once the Netatmo thermostat was wired up and plugged in and the power turned back on, the e-paper display fired up and the sensors started acclimatising to the hallway.
Finally, I now know what actual temperature the hallway is at, and I can set a desired temperature accordingly. On the old mechanical thermostat, it would only turn the boiler on if it was set to a very high temperature.
The app is quite basic in terms of functionality, it has everything you would expect, but nothing more than the bare minimum. For example, there’s no obvious way to lock the temperature controls. The graphs are great, giving you a detailed view. You can easily set the temperature from anywhere that you are.
A fantastic product, it’s saving me a fortune because it works, and integrates with my smart phone.
Good thermostat that is easy to install and works well… Only issue is that the relay does not connect using Bluetooth to start wirh. You have to connect it to the computer using usb cable ( Supplied) and configure it to use your WiFi network. After that, it works fine as it should.
Had the Netatmo wireless thermostat setup in a couple of hours, even with wiring the relay to my Ideal boiler. Beautifully designed and works well from smartphone and Alexa
Good product
Not easy to install as you need to woke on electricity a bit but we’ll explained
I was at the South pole last week and was feeling cold, so turned up the heating using the Netatmo app – works great!
Plugged it in. Re plugged it in the right polarity. Did what it did. Syncd The app now I control on my phone.
Simples.
Installed by myself in my brothers flat. If your electronically minded its no hardship.
No issues with device or software would install elsewhere be it at mine or parents.
Easy to install even on a old boiler, does what it says on the box and connects to router no problem. I found the daily programming simple and the flexibility of the software a great help when I want to alter the temperature from the set daily program. Altogether I couldn’t be more pleased. Saving on gas already .
Also works with Siri. Brilliant product and does what it says on the packet. Would definitely recommend
I’ve been a fan of Netatmo products for a while – I already own the weather station and security camera products which are still working just fine after 3 years of ownership So I decided to add the thermostat product to the stable. Overall the product works very well: I especially like the fact that it integrates with the Netatmo outdoor weather module so that when there is a particularly cold night, it will switch on the heating earlier to allow more time for the house to warm up.
I do have one criticism however. The wiring for the relay is easy enough but Netatmo supply a double sided sticky pad to fix the relay to the wall next to the boiler. The pad is quite small and indeed wouldn’t benefit from being any bigger as the electrical connector that connects to the back of the relay stands proud of the back of the relay, meaning that you only have the surface area of the connector (maybe 2cm x 4cm) that makes contact with the wall.
Given the proximity of the relay to the boiler, it is perhaps the radiant heat from the boiler softening the glue of the sticky pad that means that before long the relay drops off the wall. A second sticky pad bought separately from a stationery shop had the same effect and it seems a shame to reach for the Gorilla tape to ensure a firm fix. I would have to say that on this point Netatmo have let themselves down with what is obviously a design fault – an after-thought at that.
The Smartphone App works nicely; but it would be useful for you, the reader, to know that rather than go to the menu to see the temperature graph, you can simply rotate the phone into landscape. Not obvious from the app!
Other than this, I would recommend the product.

Easy to install, just two wires, and easy interface with the net. Works well with Alexa. Little bit of set up re temperature setting. It replaces a old on off thermostat. As the Netatmo thermostat thinks for its self i found the heating on at times I was not expecting. As it learns how the house heats up over a few weeks that has got less.
This is my first smart thermostat and if you’re anything like me, you want to fit it yourself and you want it to be nice and easy. This thermostat is all of those.
Wiring is very simple, connect the blue and brown wires to the live and neutral supply to the boiler (Turn the power off to your boiler!!). This can be either in the boiler itself or in the fused spur if you have one. The remaining two, the grey and black connect to the terminals where your thermostat connects to. If you don’t already have one, you should have a small piece of wire connecting theses terminals. If you’re not sure, google your boiler and search for something like “Link Wire” or “Thermostat Connection”. Once you’ve found these, disconnect the link or thermostat wires and install the grey and black wires. These wires are NOT POLARITY DEPENDENT, so you can’t wire these the wrong way round. Don’t worry, this is very easy to fit.
Connectivity wise, I’ve had no issues with Wi-Fi, the router is at least 30 meters away (its a long story) and I have full signal. I did find it easier to connect the included relay to the also included three-pin plug and plug it in close to the router. This allows all the Wi-Fi details and firmware updates to be installed for you. The app is very good too. It takes the hassle out of the relay set up.
Heating wise, once it gets cold, the boiler comes on. Its as simple as that. I’ve connected it to Alexa, IFTTT and Samsung Smarthings. The reason I chose this over Nest is Google’s recent decision to remove third party connectivity from their devices.
Beyond that, I’ve not seen any major cost savings in my heating, that will probably take time.
Overall then, I’m a huge fan. It looks good, is very easy to fit and has some great integrations. I paid 100 for it, which to me was a bargain. Looking to add some more Netatmo items next I think!
Does pretty much what it says on the tin. Very easy to instal and set up and the app is pretty easy to use when you’ve gotten to grips with the different heating zones. I did have an issue with the temp sensor which undergrad my old digital temperature gauge by 2-3 degrees but you can adjust the temperature you see from the app which is quite handy.
Nice product. Got it for my mum so wanted something simple and easy to use or understand. Fits the brief well and in an elegant way
Replaced a honeywell rotary thermostat. Followed some reviews I found on here and it worked first time. Set up on the app and also on Samsung Smartthings. Had to drill a couple of extra holes in it to make sure I could connect it to the existing singlae gang back box in the wall
App is really easy to use and it’s great having the ability to turn on the heating when we’re out of the house.
This was just the right level of complexity for the required task. There a two ways in which this can be installed. The “switch” can act as a relay, but so can the thermostat unit itself.
Great thermostat with a lot of functions and compatibility. Worst thing is after sales support from Netatmo or warranty issues. It can take ages for someone to sort a replacement for defective item or reply for problems, however item itself is grea
I have had 3 or 4 different smart thermostats (in different tenanted properties owned, including Google Nest Smart (Gen 3), Heatmiser etc and I have found the Netatmo smart thermostat by far the most configurable (and easy to do so) with comprehensive reporting of usage.
I now have three of these in three different properties (Leicester, Birmingham & Nottingham) and am able to remotely view usage, temperatures and battery life! I can also amend schedules down to the time a boost is enabled (I have it set for 25 minutes btw!). The actual mounted thermostat is not touchscreen but a simple rocker-type (up/down) with all the more intricate changes able to be adjusted via the app or on PC.

This is such a great investment- has certainly recouped its cost in 6 months.
Don’t be under the illusion that you can just install this yourself if you can “change a light switch” as some other reviews suggest.
You’ll need a qualified boiler engineer or maybe an electrician unless you know what you are doing.
Fairly easy to install, if you don’t mind opening the boiler, fiddling with electrical connections and connecting wifi devices..
Now familiarising myself with the calibration and other functionality.
Well pleased so far.
Update 11/6 :Pretty impressed so far. Have ordered 3 * Netatmo TRVs.
I’ve had a Netatmo smart thermostat for nearly three years, and I’m so glad I have it. Temperature control is very precise: it learns the performance of your boiler and house, and within a couple of weeks it hits programmed temperatures precisely and exactly as timed. Being able to set say 18C at 8am and 19C at 6pm and have those times & temperatures met perfectly whatever the temperature outside is a revelation. The result is a big reduction in bills as the heating is controlled so precisely and nothing is wasted.
Being able to control your thermostat by app or even voice (I use Google Home) is so convenient. A bit cold in bed? OK Google set thermostat to 18. I don’t even need to open my eyes. Gone on holiday and forgotten to turn the heating off? A few taps on the app. Want the house nice and warm when you return? Open the app a few hours before you arrive back and cancel Away Mode.
Fitting was very easy; with a little guidance from YouTube I only needed to secure two wires into my Worcester-Bosche boiler’s control unit. Setting up the thermostat, relay (wireless device connected to the boiler) and app was simplicity itself.
In the houses I know netatmo rocks. And on summer you can use it to monitor your temperature in the app or in the Siri integration.
Very easy to install myself
Easy to set up a Wi-Fi
Using the app and setting the timer schedule and everything else is really easy
After a couple of weeks from installing first time, the thermostat works out the best settings for your house.
I am in the process now in buying the smart thermostat valves for all my radiators. So my whole heating system with controlled by One thermostat on one app as well as being able to control it via smart speaker(Alexa)
Reasonably easy to install, and very easy to use.
Works flawlessly with Alexa and Siri, and the app and online pages are very easy to use and understand.
Added some Netatmo radiator valves too, so now have complete control over the house.
I found this very easy to install with the supplied lead and only two wires to connect to the boiler. If you have reasonable mechanical/diy knowledge and can isolate power to your boiler, it should take no more than 5 minutes.
Then you simply download the app and connect and you are up and running.
The heating graphs are useful to maximise efficiency.
Very simple to use and so far completely reliable.
I don’t have Alexa and haven’t required tech support so I can’t score these.
Device works with apple HomeKit but I have found the netatamo app to be far more useful.
Excellent product.
Very easy to install the thermostat and 10 radiator valves I did the whole set up myself without any support from Netatmo themselves, works great with Alexa smooth operations “asking the temp of the rooms” asking to turn up the heating in one specific room as well.
Looked at other reviews and You Tube videos and found easy to install. Our room thermostat only had Two wires which made easy. Easy to set schedules. Previous programmable room stat. was fiddly to set.
This can change via phone app very easily.
Say to Alexa set heat to 20, she and netatmo respond straight away.
Great when going to bed or leaving house to easily change temperature. When we went out one evening turned down the heat. Then using phone increased heat about 15 minutes before returning to nice warm house.
Really pleased with item. Would recommend. Much greater control over your heating.
So easy to use.
This Smart Thermostat has slotted in nicely to my smart home eco-system. The installation in my case was extremely straightforward (your mileage may vary) as I was replacing an old wired thermostat. The only gripe I have is that options to mount it to the wall were limited and just didn’t work in my case since the assume the wires for the existing thermostat are embedded in the wall. In my case, they ran through a surface mounted duct but it was nothing that I couldn’t work around. Must also mention that I got a very quick response from their Technical Support team when I emailed them to check the wiring diagram from my old thermostat.
Bottom line – I’m a very happy customer.
Easy to fit. Easy to set up. And easy to use.
Allows you to control your heating from anywhere in the world.
Brilliant works great so easy to setup I use it on my phone and tablet , setting your schedule is simple. You also get back useful information so you can adjust your schedule. I looked at the competitor’s before buying glad I chose Netatmo great product. Going to get the radiator valves next.
I gave up on installing this myself as I found it very confusing. I am not a handy person though. The professional did tell me that the Netatmo one is the easiest for them to do by far though.
Once it was installed by a professional, it works brilliantly. Very intuitive app and speedy response. Not sure if saving money yet but seems great so far.
Works well and nice app too.
My plumber had a bit of a nightmare wiring it up however because the thermostat has 4 x cables.
Two of these are power and are obvious however there is also a grey and a black wire which control Heating & Hot Water.
However if you have a Combi boiler like me you only need the heating one so what do you do?
In the end he needed to connect one to the 240v and the other to the yellow LR connection.
He was paranoid of blowing it up but that’s what is needed!
Looked at several different products and reviews and this seemed to come out on top. Not disappointed. Also, having the ability to add radiator controls is a real plus. No more heating empty rooms.
Great product. It has reduced the amount of time my boiler is on but the house is always the right temp.
5 stars product. It does exactly what it says on the tin. I am NOT an electrician (although handy with electrical stuff) and found very easy to install it myself with the assistance of the Netamo Forum.
Only inconvenience for me was that after pairing the device with apple’s home app, the Netamo app started to fail. At the end of the day I had to choose between using Home from Apple (thus being able to give commands to Siri to alter the temperature in my house) or work with Netamo’s app.
1 – didnt need any wires to the router
2 – didnt need any wires for the actual ‘front-end’ device
3 – connecting the app was really straightforward – fool-proof
4 – the app itself is really smart – has even history of temperatures
5 – security seems quite decent – notifications when logons are made from new devices etc.
6 – extendable – wont use it, but potentially could come handy one day – can be connected to smart thermostats as well.
nothing to complain even if i really try hard. price was more or less decent, the install was easy – got it done by amazon as well.
I’ve just fitted this to my son and his wife’s central heating system. It had an existing Potterton / Honeywell wall thermostat. All went well, apart from the back box for the old stat not really suiting the Netatmo, but ways and means were found.
Fitting the Netatmo to an existing thermostat is really easy.
– Plug in the Netatmo Wi-Fi connect box into a nearby main’s outlet;
– turn off the boiler power;
– remove the stat cover;
– photograph the wiring (you can email this free to Netatmo who reply within the hour explaining which wire goes where – fantastic customer service!);
– remove the old stat;
– fit the Netatmo back box;
– blank off the unneeded neutral wire;
– connect the two switched wires to the Netatmo terminals;
– fit the front cover;
– install the app
– connect to WiFi and set up a Netatmo account.
– hey presto you have a “smart” heating system.
– Fantastic.
I’ll treat the lovely couple to two Netatmo thermostatic radiator valves when the budget allows. I’ve read they’re amazing and can well believe it.
Simple to use product that adds great remote functionality to our somewhat dated boiler. The ability to add a short duration increase in temperature is my favourite function, as I no longer need remember to turn off the boiler manually, when going to bed etc.
Bought this based on the reviews. Plumber was a bit dubious as he had never come across this product before. Had a new boiler fitted and was replacing an existing wired controller and thermostat but wanted the Netatmo thermostat to be wireless. Fitted to an Ideal gen2 vogue boiler. Really so easy to wire and fired up the boiler first time on test. Then followed the instructions to connect the wireless thermostat to the relay/sender with no problems. Downloaded app onto Ipad and connected to thermostat through home WiFi and set up our 7 day schedule. Plumber well impressed!! Couple of tips. Ensure you are near to the relay sender when setting up the wireless thermostat and that you have connection to WiFi in this area too. I would highly recommend this product for price, ease of connection and the app too.
Great functionality and simple to use app, works with Alexa.
My old mechanical thermostat was well past it’s best and I had been looking at smart thermostats for a while. I didn’t want to pay for a lot of functionality I would never use, such as geofencing, turning on air conditioning etc… so this seemed the best choice.
My old thermostat had 4 wires and Netatmo answered my enquiry within a day sayingvwhich wire to use. Installation took about 25mins and unlike most technology I buy, worked first try. The display auto rotates and I decided I preferred the display horizontal.
The app is very intuitive to use and I soon had my schedule and temperatures set up. No more trying to push & pull the little pins on my old timer for me ! The first few days were very hit & miss with a few chilly mornings and one very sweaty one. But once the adaptive programme started to do it’s thing the results have been amazing. The temperature is exactly where I want it, when I want it and is stable to within 0.5c ( something my old thermostat could never get close to )
It’s early days yet to see if it saves as much money as claimed ( I am sceptical on that ) But The ease of use, flexibility and excellent control of the temperature are worth the money. I’m a bit addicted to checking the inside temperature while I’m out, but that novelty will soon wear off. Alexa use is a bit limited and again a novelty that wore off quickly. Now my schedule and temperatures have been refined, it’s pretty much fit & forget.
Update after 4 years.
Still working perfectly. Batteries seem to last 2 years. It’s never lost wifi connection and is now linked with my Netatmo weather station so it knows how cold it is outside and apparently, takes that into account.
At last a tech purchase that I don’t regre

Fitted this device to replace a Danfoss control system. This is on an oil fired Rayburn central heating/cooker and it works extremely well.
I have experienced the Hive system, which is also excellent, but Netatmo provides graphs of actual versus target temperature and also learns the speed of warming the room, so that it can kick on the heating at the right time to achieve the desired temperature.
Really impressed – now I can control heating whilst away from home and prepare the house before I get home!
I installed it few days ago and I like it so far.
A suggestion to anyone installing it. I had some problems with the Relay originally, but once the firmware was updated, all was good, so before you do anything: Download “netwtamo thermostat wizard” for your PC, plug the Relay to your computer and go through the setup, and update the firmware.
I installed the Netatmo thermostat to replace a Honeywell mechanical thermostat with four wires. The Netatmo manual is confusing in its description of how to wire up in this situation. You need to identify the two wires that control the boiler and system heating. So if there are four wires like mine the earth and neutral wires are not used and should be bent back and insulated with plastic tape. Make sure power is turned off before opening up and working on the wiring. The two remaining wires should be the live feed from the boiler and a switched live back to the boiler. In the old fashioned mechanical thermostat a physical switch is activated when the thermostat calls for heat this activates the boiler heating circuit. The live in wire should be connected to the top Netatmo connector and the switched live wire to the bottom Netatmo connector.
A key reason for installing the Netatmo is to improve control of the home heating system and hopefully save some cash in going so. The old mechanical thermostat and set schedule of on off heating times is fine but it does not predict the most efficient times to turn the heating off and on it reacts but does not learn. The Netatmo learns the insulation properties of your home, uses outside temperature to predict an efficient on off time. So you should make sure that the heating prediction is enabled in the app – it takes a few weeks to learn, meanwhile if the thermostat is installed outside of a winter period home temperatures may be acceptable for most of the day and night but need occasional boiler bursts to top up in colder periods. To do this I set the default time of manual set points to 30 minutes rather than the default 3 hours. Then if it gets a tad chilly I use the app to increase the required temperature for a boost in heat. I then have the scheduled temperature set below that required heat so that the Netatmo does not call for inessential heating. The heating graphs are very useful – the black curve shows the internal home temperature, the orange line the preset temperature and the orange vertical bars indicate the boiler burn periods. In winter I increase the preset temperature, in this case the black curve will be below the orange line when there is a need for heating.
My relay is plugged in a wall socket close to an Apple Express WiFi and connects at 72Mbs, the relay is about 20 feet from the Netatmo and has a robust WiFi connection that is rock solid. The setup on an iPad or iPhone was very easy, WiFi passwords and stettings are automatically read by the app – at one stage a code is displayed by the Netatmo this is scanned by the iPhone to make a secure connection – it is a twelve digit code, hack proof I would say. Once connected heating can be controlled via Apple Home and Siri voice controls remotely.
Update: My boiler developed a fault and Netatmo sent me an email as the heating temperature had not increased – thanks Netatmo I was able to reset my boiler and the wifey didn’t have a cold shower.
Excellent thermostat, does what it promises. I have it for 1 year and 10 months. Very satisfied!
Great Stat
Fitted it where my existing thermostat was and all good .
Very easy to fit
Need a low voltage output boiler and the correct two wires on the existing thermostat
Nothing else needed then connect to the wireless
Update ; Upgraded from one star to 4 stars. Netatmo support have managed to solve my problem by updating the software on my Relay and it now works as expected. I can control individual room temperature with the Smart Radiator valves (by app, manually or via Alexa) or I can use the Thermostat.
The issue I had was the signal between the relay and thermostat wasn’t strong enough (it was 3 bars) to download updates. Once I emailed Netatmo support, I found them very helpful and responsive (OK – there is sometimes a lag of a couple of hours as I;m guessing they’re in India somewhere – but they do respond and they did fix my issue; so that’s a plus for them !!)
My advice to those buying this :
– Install the relay and thermostat as close together as possible and close to your Wifi router (my Thermostat was wired, my relay mobile – so I was able to move the relay to within 6 feet of the Thermostat and Router. This will help provide a strong enough radio signal over 868Mhz to transmit the update
– If you don’t see ECO Priority and Comfort Priority listed under Operating Mode; you need to get updated firmware on your Relay and Thermostat (as of mid Sept 18 – i have Ver 69 of firmware on my Thermostat and version 189 on my relay. Use the App to email Customer Support to ask them to push a new update to the devices.
-Give it time to settle in. The firmware distribution takes time, may occur over-night – so wait for the updates to occur.
Looks good and simple to use with a good app.
Once I’d found an electrician who would actually turn up (local but selected from the Netatmo website) it was easy to install (he said). Can’t find fault so far but maybe need a to get through a winter to test performance (and savings…).
I have the netatmo smart thermostat and 10 smart Thermostatic Radiator Valves in my house.
Installation was easy, I just took my old thermostat off the wall and attached the new one, connected the radio/WiFi adapter to the mains and it was pretty much off to the races.
You then connect the TRVs, and create rooms (I have a big open plan living room with 4 TRVs and the thermostat, so that was one room, and 4 bedrooms, and 2 Hallways,
My understanding was that when one of the rooms was turned on it would request heat from the boulder without the main Thermostat room needing to be turned on, this was not how it was working, I was confused and frustrated because I thought I had spent 700 on something that didn’t do what I wanted, but that was when I did a little investigating and discovered that you need to wait up to 48 hours for the TRVs to update to the latest firmware…. once that is done, they work exactly as expected.
Fantastic bit of kit, took at bit of time to install it with our very old boiler but got there in the end. The app on the phone and the website is fantastic and you are able to do so much and view how much money you have saved.
Its a great stat, the instructions are a little poor, but their online support is great.
It took a couple of time to connect the stat to my phone, then my internet, then the app will walk you through different times you are in and the temps you would like, and i believe it learns from there.
I like the the way you can connect it to alexia and set it by voice, even if some of the features arnt there for alexia, but in that case you can use your phone.I have recently got the amazon echo, and loving all the devices that i can connect to it, and this one works very well.
It’s an excellent thermostat. Very easy to fit and with an excellent app.
Easy to physically install but a pain to set up schedules and to get it to connect to WiFi as I have an Apple phone. Had to connect it to a PC via usb to configure it. Seem to be working okay and managed to get it to talk to Alexa
This was a cheaper option to Hive and I made this choice because I didn’t need all the complicated facilities of Hive.
Netatmo does not learn your heating patterns, when you are in or out and anticipating the heating requirements. I use it remotely to adjust the temperature and turning it off and on again.
it is completely wireless and easy to install, and has a lovely modern display.
An amazing little product. Very easy to set up. Works like a dream. Allowed me to control my heating and house from new York while the beast from the east where
This replaced a Tado that had died. Netatmo is much simpler to use and set up. Not as simple to install as the blurb suggests but not beyond the more competent.
The Netamo smart thermostat replaced an existing wireless thermostat controlling a gas combi-boiler. Installation required some electrical rewiring (not the fault of Netamo) otherwise there were no problems. Communication between the relay, thermostat and our home WiFi was established without any significant issues. As stated the device works with Amazon Alexa/Echo without issue although the iOS app is the primary control interface. Although we have retained the old control system as a backup the Netamo coped with the recent cold-snap without any problems.
Much better than my old thermostat!
Easy to install for the average competent d.i.y person, you can then use the app to set up a schedule to start and stop daily.
Easy to set it manually by either the control unit or the app from anywhere.
It would be good if you could set the timer by smaller intervals, but at the moment it’s only by 15 minute intervals.
Great piece of kit easy to install and set up heat when you want or auto adapt due to outside temprature
Been using this thermostat and 1 radiator valve. Worked straight out of the box, synced instantly with the iPhone app and homekit. The first month I used almost 50% less gas than before. 2 more radiator valves bought this month.
Not as fancy as Nest or Hive, but a stylish and practical alternative. Being able to override the the heating programme from afar is actually far more useful than you might imagine!
Amazon don’t like to mention it, but it actually works just as well with Google Home as it does with Alexa. So voice control of your heating is as simple as saying “make it warner”, or “set the heating to 19”.
Netatmo have tried to make this as easy to DIY install as possible, with the hardware for a number of installation options in the box (and a decor plate to disguise any places where people have previously painted around old thermostats and programmers). For the most part this is successful (if a little wasteful).
The downside of this is that, by trying to be all things to all men, it makes installation over an existing recessed wall box difficult. Whether they never considered this possibility, or just thought “sod it”, I don’t know. But it meant that I had to mount it to a switch blanking plate, as this was the only way I could cover the hole, so my relay unit sticks out at least 50mm from the wall, and looks like a sore thumb. As you can see in my pictures, I have since made up a plastic cover to disguise the unsightly gap, but frankly it still looks a bit manky, and I would like to see an adaptor for a standard switch plate included with the thermostat, or at least made available as a UK accessory.
That niggle aside it does what I want perfectly, without fuss, and provides interesting advanced features as the thermostat learns the idiosyncracies of your installation.
Has it saved me any money? Although the app tries tries very hard to convince me it has, I can’t see that it has made much difference in the real world. I had already fine tuned my heating programme over the last 10 years, and I keep a close eye on my energy usage from week to week. It stands to reason that my heating is on just as much (or as little) as it has always been at this time of year. I must say though, I get a lovely smug feeling every time I manually turn off the heating, and I must be saving a few pennies. Not many penies, but a few nonetheless! How long it would take to for those few pennies cover the purchase cost (mine was 90) is anyone’s guess. So, unless you have a system without so much as a basic thermostat, I would ignore the claims of money saving as hyperbole, and base your purchase on the practical aspects of a smart thermostat at a sensible price.
All in all, then, I have no hesitation in recommending this device as the next stage in home heating control for those who want smart control without all the complications.
Great product, solid app and HomeKit compatibility. Faultless.
Installation took a while, but that was down to my lack of knowledge regarding boilers. The support documentation in the box and online really helped. Ultimately, I successfully installed the product and it works a treat.
It also works well with Google Home, which Amazon appear less enthusiastic about mentioning! That said, I find it easier to use the Netatmo app on my phone or the web page on my PC to change the settings, since I then have an overview of the current set temperatures etc. Very easy to set up and works well.
Great device, easy to install once you know the relevant wiring to your boiler, which isn’t so easy to find, even for qualified boiler installers.
Nicely packaged, nice design. Even gets approval from designer friend.
Big suggestion, this could really do with multi-user geo-fencing ifttt+, etc.
Will be going for the radiator valves as soon as I can. These could benefit from starter packs or offers to purchase two or more not just a single valve to get discounts.
Easy to set up replacing the built in timer and wired room stat I previously had.
Great design!
Not checked my gas use but I’m sure I’m using less. If I’m late at work or out for the evening I turn off/down from my phone!
Really pleased so far, fairly easy to set up and operate.
I would have given a 5 star but the other accessories are so expensive (but in line with other systems to be fair).
Works well with Alexa.
Installation was easier than expected although I had a wireless thermostat previously which helped with the wiring. If you have your boiler instruction booklet anyone who can wire a plug can do it.
I hit difficulty trying to sync the relay to my WiFi. My boiler is located in an outhouse and for one reason it wouldn’t hold a connection. I emailed technical support and got no reply however the issue was solved when I manually synced the relay by plugging the relay into my computer and running the sync program. My tip would be any syncing relay issues go for this manual method.
I got a reply from technical support a month later cheerfully asking if I still had any issues! They acknowledged the ‘unprecedented’ demand they had but if I had a real technical issue it would of been returned far sooner. This is why I can’t give it 5 stars, the technical support needs to be more immediate.
Thermostat and app are excellent. The real deal with these smart thermostats is the phone app and UI. Compared to the Drayton it replaced which I needed to get the manual out to change anything it’s poles apart. Easy to set up schedules and the online portal gives insightful information along with the monthly usage reports. After a week and a half of use the device indicated it had a personalised algorithm set up based on analysis of how long my house takes to heat up and how it retains heat.
Why Netatmo over tado, hive or nest? For me it was cost. I got the netatmo when it was 109. The Hive loses out due to not having the algorithm calculating how much the boiler needs to fire, it’s just a fancy scheduler. The nest is closest in my mind but I couldn’t justify the extra expense and similarly for tado.
What the netatmo lacks is geolocation. After a months use I actually think I would use it as it would factor in unplanned trips out of the house. I can’t see why this can’t be added in a software update and this would make even more competitive against nest or tado.
One issue I’ve found is range. Connection from relay to thermostat is via radio which means the thermostat won’t extend to my living room. No major issue for me as it lives in the kitchen but range may be a consideration for some depending on boiler location. I don’t know why it can’t use the WiFi if the radio signal isn’t enough?
Overall I am impressed. This is my first winter in my house so I don’t have enough data to measure efficiency savings but I fully expect it will provide savings and a warmer home.

Works well, occasionally receiver loses WiFi signal. Distance between sender and receiver 4 MTR.
Love it. Simple to install and use yet it is so practical. You can control your heating from your Apple Watch, phone, iPad, from anywhere in the world. 10 minutes to install on wall in place of existing thermostat. No power supply needed. Just connect the 2 wires from the old thermostat to this one. Then plug the receiver into a outlet in the same room. Batteries last over a year. Easy to set programming on your phone or iPad etc. Set a time for when you want it to be 23c and it will start heating your house at the right moment to reach 23c by the appointed time. It calculates this using the outside temperature and learns your house’s individual characteristics after 2 weeks. i.e. It would start heating an old house earlier than a modern one.
Superb product, great to be able to control heating remotely. Does what it says very well. Very slight minus is I am not sure how well it learns when to turn on in time for correct heat but that can be ignored or manipulated through timings
Once I’d worked out which wires to connect to the thermostat which is wall mounted installed and working within 30 mins. Really easy set up and App works well.
Set it up with Alexa which was easy although slightly disappointed with the few commands you can use. But overall very pleased at a fraction of the cost of other smart controllers..
