Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersExcellent and reliable product, just don’t follow the instructions on the card they send you, for right hand cars the instructions say to put it on left hand side of the middle mirror , but it’s too far away and not in the wiper zone, easier if you install it on right hand side where wipers can work n clear the windscreen hence giving u more visibility

Great product. Had it a month and no problems. Husband got the next model down (422?) and is basically the same thing for less money, so I’d recommend that. But I’m very pleased.

Ignore other customer’s replies, this dash cam does NOT come with a suction mount. I bought this on the basis of questions answered.
    Follow-up:
Nextbase have sent me a suction mount FoC

Overall pleased with my present. But very very disappointed that the mounting has been completely changed from my previous nextbase camera. The suction mounting will not work with this model. It works with sticky pads. So a real mess if you have to replace the screens or change cars, seems a very poor idea to me. My previous nextbase suction mounting has been great for the last 4 years.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this camera as a replacement for the previous one I’ve had for five years. And have not been disappointed. The more you pay for a camera a better quality it will be. However the downside can be that you may not wish to leave it attached to the vehicle when you are not in it depending on where you are going to leave it parked. Therefore the feature called parking mode why would actually record show that sense any movement to the vehicle may not be suitable for your requirements..

I read loads of reviews of this model but was still rather surprised at just how warm it gets in operation.

The recorded pictures for the front camera are good but not as good as I was expecting for a 4K model although I find the rear view camera is pretty good even though it is only 1080 – presumably because it is a zoom lens.

Very simple to install but the WiFi battled with my Internet connection and had to install away from home. The camera came with the memory card and is extremely good quality. Love the automatic features that I don’t have to turn anything on or record because the system does it all for you. Playback is brilliant, recording where and when on the video as well as crystal clear images. For long drives the video auto splits so it’s not continuous and easy to choose an event on playback.

Arrived well packaged and almost ready to go. Have hardwired it to my fuse box and it looks neat.

You have to buy a SD card. I put in a Samsung 128gb one that was on sale. Works fine. It has its own battery to run whilst parked.

All in all, easy to use, quite intuitive.

App is ok to use too.

    Would recommend.

This is a fantastic camera, the magnetic mounting on it is excellent too. Its not short on features and the desktop app that goes with it seems really good, but painfully slow to transfer files.

Just ensure the firmware is updated first.

This is a very nice piece of kit, and works beautifully – as long as you format the SD card before you start! Picture quality is superb. As usual with these things, installation can be a bit tricky hiding the wiring, but this model benefits from a proper mount, rather than a suction cup (the latter tended to fall off in hot weather and set the car alarm off!)

MyNextbasePlayer works very well on the PC – lots of potentially useful data if required. It is expensive, though, but I feel it’s worth it for the standard it sets. It is also recommended by Which? magazine.

It near saved me first week over a parking dispute but thankfully the person didnt proceed futher once saw had dash cam footage

The video quality both day and night is fantastic. I have the 622GW running 4k30fps in the front and the rear window camera in the rear at 1080p30fps. Both are clear and sharp, especially the front one at 4k. Number plates and signs are easily read.

The enhanced night vision mode which the camera automatically switches to when needed is brilliant. The polarised filter on the front is also a huge bonus.

I’m impressed at how well it just works out of the box, parking mode is perhaps my only complaint with it saving a locked file every single time I get in the car as the g sensor is overly sensitive however with a 128gb card, you can just format it every month or week to stop the locked files filling up your card and I’d rather it too sensitive and not recording when someone hits my car gently enough to cause damage but not activate many other dashcams.

The hardwire kit is a must for me, the battery of the camera has so far performed very well however with tit being constantly charged and discharged I can’t see this being the case forever so I think it’s worth the piece of mind to hardwire it to your car’s battery.

The camera takes good quality photos even at speed which is also nice, possibly a handy feature for some though I can’t think of any situation I’d use it as I’d prefer a video or would just screenshot the video for a still image.

The mic is good, perhaps a little quieter than some cameras but it’s clear and road noise isn’t bad at all, it picked up my horn, voice and other horns and such within reasonable distance of the car. Remember you are in a sound insulated box of metal on wheels so don’t expect miracles.

The speed and GPS readings built into the camera is brilliant. They overly nicely into the bottom of videos alongside your number plate and camera model.

I’ve not used the app much but it’s worked flawlessly when I have. Downloading videos via WiFi was very quick and easy as was live view mode and watching back videos showing telemetry and map location data.

The camera has never crashed except when I removed the SD card without stopping the camera recording which is honestly expected and a simple reboot instantly fixed it. I was also pleased to find the only video that was corrupt was the one recording at the time which is good as other dashcams I’ve had have corrupted every single file on the card when doing this causing me to lose a lot of footage, fortunately nothing I needed.

The rear camera also doesn’t reduce the max resolution of the front camera which is great to see as many do this and it’s very frustrating.

I’d strongly recommend the camera with the rear camera if you want great quality footage. The steep price is worth it. The camera feels durable, is well thought through, built well, works well and is very user friendly.

Ignore all the negative reviews. This is a flagship dashcam and performs as such!

Bought for use on a motorhome (because camera has image stabilisation) and it seems to work fine as long as sensitivity is set to minimum, even then the video save routine kicks in on an uneven road surface or if stopped and you open / close the habitation door, but I can live with that. My main complaint about the camera is that unless you turn the display off when in use, the camera gets uncomfortably hot, overheats and “freezes”, requiring a reset. Would I recommend? Yes.

    Original review:-
    ——————————
I’m giving this camera 8 out of 10 as it’s build quality is excellent, it has a great clear touch screen the audio is ok and (in my case) pairing the Alexa app on my phone and my car radio (via Bluetooth) makes it quite useful as I can find out if there are any problems on the roads I will be traveling on, also another good feature is the ‘What3Words’ app for pinpointing your location, I know this might be a gimmick to sell the product but for me I do use it as I do a lot of Walking/hiking and if I park somewhere I haven’t been before one click and I can find that place again to within 3 meters.

The only thing I’m NOT happy about is, it doesn’t matter what resolution I set the camera to, it doesn’t show number plates at night unless your directly behind the vehicle, if your on a motorway any vehicle either side of you (if you was in the middle lane) is not legible, this maybe down to my settings as I’m still playing around with things, if I get it sorted I’ll update this review.

All in all I’m very happy with it.

    ——————————
    Update:-
    ——————————
The spec sheet says 1080p@120 fps, this was NOT possible with the camera I purchased, not a big deal but if you’re told it can do something that it can’t then it’s a false claim, I sent it back after about 5-6 weeks as the screen kept freezing randomly for no apparant reason, this happened about 8 times while I had it and you don’t really notice when it happens as obviously you’re watching the road not the camera, I had to remove the power cable and let the battery run flat as that was the only way of turning it off (pressing the button or the screen did nothing), I did notice a reset button when packing it up for return but I don’t know if that would have turned it off & on again or reset all the settings back to default even so the button is that small and discrete you would need something like a paperclip to press it so not practical or safe to do whilst driving.

The quality of the image and sound are second to non but as other reviewers have mentioned the camera freezes and I just thought it maybe a bad batch so took the risk, for now I’m dash camless but if they fix the problem I maybe persuaded to give it another chance.

The picture quality is really good with lots of presets. I’ve opted for 1440p at 60fps, as this is a good balance between a crisp image and being able to extract detail from moving objects (e.g. number plates). I had a dash cam before which was only 30fps and sometimes number plates were difficult to extract because of the speed of the vehicle passing (it blurred it), so 60fps will resolve that issue. It will not allow camera stabilisation at this resolution though, so I am guessing that feature is only available at 1080p. (I’d consider that to be slightly misleading advertising, but I am not too concerned about it.)

Installation was easy using the included cigarette lighter socket adapter. It does take up the socket though, so you can’t use it for anything else (no problem for me as I don’t smoke and I have other USB charging ports in the car).

The magnetic mount is really strong, so much so that I was initially hesitant to put the required force on it to remove the camera, but it will come off. I also found that putting the camera on at a slight angle, so that the metal contacts in the mount and camera touch first, was required for a good mounting. (Taking it off was then the reverse of this.)

All in all, a good camera.

I had this dashcam professionally hardwired into the car. Initially it would freeze and it had to be reset each time I used it. I took it out of the car and plugged it in to the USB and reset it several times. It now seems to be working each time and starts as I start the car. Quality seems to be pretty good. I can check the recordings on my phone as they connect through Bluetooth, its easy to check.

I don’t like the lack of markings on the adjustable polaroid lens. Very difficult to adjust without driving somewhere and keep stopping to re-adjust? Also not easy to find the updates via the website, that seems only to be interested in selling more products instead of actually helping to solve problems? Otherwise, I suppose it’s probably as good as it gets for the money?

This is my second Nextbase camera. I’ve had 2 different models over the past couple of years. Both cameras kept freezing at least 2 or 3 times a week. I keep resetting the camera and formatting the Nextbase SD card over and over as instructed to do by Nextbase support and the problem remains. I definitely won’t be buying Nextbase products again.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFor image quality and stability it is one of the best out there. Overall a fantastic package and high quality but a couple of things take the shine off it:
    – The stability of the rear camera bracket. The camera won’t stay in the set position and gradually moves.
    – The hardwire kit does not come with Micro 2 fuses as used in many cars. I emailed nextbase 2 weeks ago and still haven’t received them. Went and bought my own separately.
    – The G sensor is overly sensitive even on the lowest setting. It triggers often for normal bumps in the road and this is in a car with a smooth ride.

Otherwise it’s a great for the price.

Great camera, easy to install. Easy to connect to the MyNextbase app which allows you to easily configure your required camera settings and view the recorded video files. Nextbase was recommended to me by a friend who has had Nextbase dashcams for over 10 years and this camera setup has not disappointed. I would recommend also purchasing the hard wire kit as well which will allow better use of the parking (where it records any bumps by other cars while parked in a car park) function of the camera, as the cameras built in battery won’t last long while the car is turned off.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI’ve had forward facing dashcams in the past that have initially done a pretty good job for the short time I’ve had them.
However, although these might be pretty well priced and do a decent job for sub 100, they’ve never lasted that long.
My last one managed 2 years before starting with problems with its suction mount, causing problems with my 64Gb SD card, and finally its charging connection started falling apart.
So having read up about several makes/models, I took the plunge with buying this 622 4K, with the optional rear facing camera.
Impressed is a bit of an understatement.
    It’s excellent.
The image quality at 4K is stunning. The forward facing camera can record at various HD settings, upto 4K 30fps.
Because this bundle includes the rear camera, I bought it.
The rear only records at 1080p, full HDand to be honest, it’s good enough to see what’s going on behind, including those dangerous drivers who insist on tailgating.
The software from Nextbase to view your recordings, is also very good and both camera recording can be viewed very easily.
I particularly like the strong magnetic mount connections, meaning that you can leave the mounts permanently in place, and just attach/detach the cameras with ease.
Installation was easy. Only took 20 – 30 minutes to connect both.
Just take your time in hiding the wiring. It’ll be worth it in the end.
    One final thought.
As the camera does record in 4K, not only do you need a large capacity micro SD card (I’d advise at least a 64Gb one), but you need to follow Nextbase’s advice on the type.
And don’t be tempted to buy a cheap unbranded one. It’s false economy.
The seller was very good to deal with.

Superb true 4k dash-cam. Three optional rear view cameras are available (two in-cabin and one for the tailgate).

Large f1.3 lens means great low-light capabilities.

Will update my review again soon, as I have just installed these in two cars.

Great product, quality compared to my 512GW is amazing. Easy to install, however I had to ask Nextbase to send me a micro2 fuse adapter which they did for free which was good.

I have had a few issues with it crashing on startup. Nextbase advised to use their official memory card, which is like 3 times the cost, but as I understand it the write speed is faster. I’m still using the Sandisk high endurance one, and if it crashes ,I just reset it. But I will look to buy three official card in due course.

  54. GregoryThrossel says:

     United Kingdom

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI upgraded from a 612GW (The previous 4K version that Nextbase sold) and found that the new model wasn’t leaps and bounds different from the old model. With benefit of hindsight I should probably have skipped this model.

    Why?

    The picture quality
Whilst sharp, seems to have a colour balance issue (when viewed on the LCD screen). Images seem to have a (very slight) red tinge to them – the pictures on my old 612GW seemed a lot more natural. The angle of view is slightly narrower at 140 degrees compared to the 150 on the 612GW.

    Poor Alexa integration
I was sucked in by the Alexa integration – unfortunately for me, I only seem to get audio from Alexa when my phone is plugged into the car USB and set to Apple Car Play. Seems a bit excessive to have Siri and Alexa vying for your attention. I was hoping that the camera would connect to my phone and then whenever I asked Alexa something then the audio would be automatically broadcast to the car speakers via the normal phone-car bluetooth like a phonecall. Doesn’t seem to work like that

So the key gimmick of this camera is a bit of a washout for me.

    Color of camera
Being a light Aluminium/Titanium coloured brushed metal finish – it’s quite obvious from outside the car that you have dashcam stuck on your windscreen. I would have prefered it if Nextbase had made this more stealthy black to keep prying eyes and opportunists away. The bright white model number on the side of the lens is not great in this regard either.

What if you’re buying your first or upgrading from a (much) older camera?
    Good Quality
This camera is great quality – there’s a real solidity to it and the accessories that are supplied.

    Sturdy mount
The magentic mount on the front of the camera is now easier to remove so that you can hide the camera away when not in use, but be warned – the magnet is very strong. You have to twist the camera to pull the camera off the mount – upsetting when you’ve positioned the camera just so that it’s got that perfect balance of car and sky…

    Low profile mounts
The new mounts (suction or adhesive) are low profile compared to older models which means the camera doesn’t hang half way down your screen when mounted

    Good app and Easy setup
The menus on the camera are a bit difficult to navigate but settings easy to change. You can alternately use the app for your phone to change settings

    Polarising filter on lens
By simply twisting the small filter on the front of the lens you can reduce reflections from your windscreen – it doesn’t get rid of all reflections but it definitely helps

All in all, a great camera but probably not worth upgrading if you have a previous gen 4K.
