We’ve been using this Philips GC7920/26 Steam Iron for a while now, daily use, and it’s been fantastic.

The iron is easy to get used to, though heavy if, like us, you need to keep moving it once the ironing is done. You do need to be careful when moving with water in as it tends to leak from the back if you tip it. We’ve got used to holding it steady now and can place it on a shelf when not in use without any leaks, so it’s fine as long as you are aware.

The iron has a good quality base that can glide over fabric well and the steam control is easy to use, giving you just the right amount of heat and steam for different types of fabric. we tend to use filtered water to avoid limescale buildup as well. The fact that it does this without a wealth of over-complicated knobs and buttons, making the iron itself quite streamlined and easy to use, is a great design job.

I have used a steam generator before but was keen to try this out to see how it compares. The size of these steam generators remains an issue with me as my ironing space is limited and has been awkward for me to have this on the board but on a positive note the large 1.5 litre tank means that I don’t have to refill the water as frequently as i do for a regular iron.

The iron itself works well and with the steam generation there is a significant difference and find it nicely powerful and can iron efficiently with much ease. The handheld iron part is quite small and lighter than my old iron, the water is pumped via a hose from the water tank. This is a bit of a problem for me as I don’t seem to be able to drain the water from the hose when I have finished and am concerned about the water staying in the hose and becoming stagnant when left, time will tell. One thing i don’t like about the main iron is that it cannot self-stand like a regular iron so it has to be returned to the base every time you want to put it down which is quite inconvenient when ironing smaller items. This iron claims to have a no burn gurarantee but if i’m honest i don’t fancy testing that claim.

There are pretty much 2 settings, normal and boost with no temperature control , which feels a but strange but takes no time to get used to, it heats quickly and evenly to an optimum temperature and does work well. It can also steam vertically which is ideal for getting creases out of hanging garments or giving curtains or other upholstery a quick steam. Other useful features include an auto off after a few minutes of inactivity which is good for safety and peace of mind, there is also a self cleaning setting if like me you live in a hard water area and calcium build up is a problem. Unfortunately for me this is what ends up destroying my irons over time so again, time will tell how effective that is and how long this iron will last.

Overall the build quality is pretty good, i have had many phillips irons previously and they seem to be very consistent on design and quality. If i’m honest i would have preferred a smarter and sleeker colour scheme as the white and blue is very bright. The whole thing is quite bulky and cumbersome, it is a bit of a pain to store especially if you are limited on space.

The price at the time of review is 150 but does have an RRP of 180, which for me is quite expensive for what is essentially a glorified steam iron. I will say though i am very impressed, ironing is much more effortless and quicker with good results. At the right price i think i will never not have a steam generating iron again, it has been good to try this out as i probably would never have bought one off my own back.

Great iron with removable tank to fill the water, holds enough water for a basket of clothes and releases enough steam to remove the creases without having to use too much pressure. The iron makes no noise and beeps when it is ready to use. It does not have a temperature setting yet it is suitable for all clothes fabrics, quite light overall however the iron itself is a little weighty in comparison to Philips other steam generators and has a locking system which is great with kids around.

Received the Philips GC920 steam iron to review and here are my thoughts (father of 2 young girls).
The iron itself is light and easy to operate, and the design stands out. It’s nice to see that the cord can be kept organized.
Its nice to see a led light indicating when is ready to use.
I scared myself a few times with the steam (you really have to learn the right moment to release the steam button – I felt this is a point it has to be well presented under instructions, could save someone from having a burn).
Didn’t like the fact that I cant put it in the vertical position, but having a dock station, maybe it doesn’t make sense anyway…
Cord is long enough to work with, and it didn’t get in my way.
Steam has enough power but can’t think of a reason for the fact that it doesn’t have a temperature control button (true to be told, it really works well with any fabric).
Wife loved the fact that you can remove the 1,5l water tank during the ironing work, without turning of the iron itself, and be back in no time.
Till now it has been the best steam iron we have tried and we are happy with it!

Really easy to use and surprisingly lightweight. Can breeze through the ironing without needing to refill. Gets creases out easily, makes light work of even the toughest jobs. Have even used it on hung curtains aswell. Very happy with it and so happy I got chance to try it. Yes it’s expensive but it is definitely worth it. Would definitely recommend.

Great for big family or if you have a lot of ironing, there’s no temperature control so the unit sets itself, first I was a bit worried about that but it works without burns, I’ve tried on a pice of fabric and didn’t burn which is great
Good water capacity (1,5 l) gives a longer time to do the ironing
It has a locking system that holds the iron with the unit so it can be moved easily

Good cold length and good amount of steam, very easy to use.

On/off switch and max boost and a calc clean function
Comes with a designated tray for the calc clean function

It may be a bit expensive, but is helpful for big ironing jobs

Great for big family or house, I know it's a bit pricey but worth i

Tbh I wouldn’t spend almost 200 on an iron unless it ironed the clothes for me!! But I was happy to test it, first off it’s quite bulky having the two components…. I remember my mothin law having one the same many years ago, she had a little area to keep her board and iron set up so in that case it would be a good investment, as it seems to work lovely, glides over the clothes as yet no problems with build up, however if your an infrequent ironer like me this may not be for you just due to the size of storing it!

This is the future of the ironic in a very busy lifestyle, cutting to half the time of ironing . I like the idea of the water tank I think is brilliant, makes the difference from all the irons we had before so large and heavy to maneuvering. I’m not saying that this is lightweight but somehow is easy to iron with and don’t have to go twice in the same place on the gourmet, the steam makes a noise but nothing major , the iron doesn’t have a temperature control button so just need to adjust temperature bit by bit according to what I need to iron , also the cord is a bit too short !

I have not have a steam generator before and this is a nice change to the usual iron. You press the button to create the steam and this provides a nice amount to remove wrinkles from clothes. No steam means the iron is warm enough to remove creases but steam provides an extra boost.

The iron itself is lightweight and much easier than my old iron as I have a health condition that affects my wrist. This iron helps to keep flares under control when using for long periods and reducing the achy feeling when doing an ironing session.

The only downside for me is the wire is not that long but I just used an extension lead

So I’m the one that irons in the house and to be honest i was after a new iron for a while

This arrives in the branded box shown on removing all parts which where well packed, the iron and steam tank are well made and durable the colour is great and complements my kitchen well.

The iron is attached to the steam tank by a nice long hose wire combination

The steam tank is quick to start (max heating time of 2 minutes! ) and especially no need to adjust the iron (my previous iron asked me to turn a dial for settings 1,2,3 to adapt the temperature of the iron to the garment I want to iron) because the temperature adjusts automatically (I was able to iron more delicate clothes and other cotton clothes, alternating, without worrying about the temperature change).

Another advantage an anti-limestone system and an ultra practical storage. As far as storage is concerned, all wires are stored in the power plant. The iron also has a button that allows the iron to stay attached and carry it serenely, without being afraid of getting burned.

If you want quality work, amazing results and half the time this is defo for you seriously highly recommend

    Amazing

Right now I don’t have to iron my shirts as I don’t have to go to the office. But when I have to go back, which I hope will be soon, this product will be my salvation!
In the box comes the base-tank with the iron and an accessory to clean the lime scale from the iron. The length of the power cable is fine, as is the cable that connects to the iron. The latter comes wrapped around the base, and could perhaps be a few centimetres longer. At the base, where the spout of the iron is located, there is a safety button that allows you to hold the iron in place to prevent it from moving. It is very easy to close and open. As for cleaning the limescale, it warns you when it is necessary to do so. This is really useful depending on the type of water in the area where you live. So far I haven’t had to use it.
In my case I was using a very normal and small iron, so it has been a big change. This one is bigger but very light, with a pressure of 6.5 bar. A big difference is the automatic temperature control, which takes some getting used to, as the iron sets the temperature for you.
As for the steam button, it has perhaps a bit of a slow reaction time, as steam continues to come out for a couple of seconds after releasing the button. Something to keep in mind for safety.
What I didn’t like too much is the water tank. Filling it is a minor problem because there is always a bottle or jug to fill it with water. But emptying it… you have to remove the iron (so you have to wait for it to cool down) and turn it upside down. And the way it’s designed, it’s almost impossible to pull out all the water. It should have an option to remove the tank.

Good but the tank could be improved

Ironing simplified. No more burns, no need for temperature adjustment between each fabric. One of the finest quality lightweight iron that will cut your Ironing time in half so you can enjoy doing what you love.

1.5 litre transparent tank that enables you to do continuous Ironing for 1 and half hours without need to refill. Iron is very compact and lightweight and glide on fabric easily which makes Ironing less of a chore. It generates a lot of steam that does most of the iron and soleplate is just to finish off for best results.

Iron handle is ergonomically designed to grip the iron without any discomfort. This element is very important to us as my wife has arthritis fingers. This steam iron fits perfectly on our Minky Ironing board and cord provided is long enough to reach our sockets . It also has self cleaning (de scale) button on the back and comes with a calc clean container. You are prompted with a calc clean warning light and buzz every 3 months to perform a cleaning function in order to maintain your steam iron.

We are very impressed with the new Philips PerfectCare Compact Steam Glide iron and would definitely recommend it to any family home where time matters.

5 Stars for Compact Steam iron that is safe on all fabric.

Compact, lightweight no burn steam iron that cut your Ironing time in half.

A steam iron takes a bit of getting used to but it benefits from being easier to iron out wrinkles! It’s also a lot ligher to hold and use. Produces lots of steam and gets the job done. My husband is the ironer in our house and said this was much better than our previous iron. Thumbs up!

The power of this PhilipsSteam Generating iron is amazing. The steam pressure is high so the iron is perfect for disinfecting materials as it irons.

The powerful jets of steam easily penetrate the clothing that is being ironed so it is much easier to iron even the deepest creases whilst cutting down on the time it takes to complete a task.

What I really like about this iron, apart from the amazing steam pressure is the fact that I can now iron my clothes in only 1/10th of the time it takes with a traditional household steam iron.

The iron’s plate is well designed and runs so smoothly over the material, leaving no creases behind as it glides along. The iron is surprisingly light due to the design and the materials used.

Considering this steam generating iron comes in at only 50% more than my latest steam iron, which is also a Philips, it makes for exceptional value given that it saves me up to 90% of the time it takes to do the same work with the other iron, the pressure is amazing for an iron, it is well built and even has a lock for the iron so it can’t be accidently knocked off the ironing board. The normal steam is powerful enough but there are also two other settings, one gives a three (3) second extra powerful blast of steam, for those stubborn creases or to intentionally put creases in trousers , pleated skirts etc. and there is a Max setting ( press and hold the on/off switch for a few short seconds) which gives extra powerful steam for as long as you want it.

I am recommending this brilliant household tool as it is good quality, very good value for what it does and makes both easy and light work out of a much hated chore. I might even use this for ironing curtains, which I normally don’t do as it won’t take long with this machine.

    Amazingly powerful jets of steam

This review is for the Philips PerfectCare Compact Steam Generator – Max 6.5 bar pump pressure – Compact format – Up to 430g Steam Boost – 1.5 lLiter Detachable Watertank – GC7920/26

This is a really well made and good quality product as you would expect from Philips. It is not a bad size for a steam generator(I have seen ones a lot bigger). It is really easy to use and takes a couple mins to unpack and setup before you can use.

It produces a generous amount of steam and works so well with any material. The creases basically just fall out. I personally think this is a great product for the price and will never go back to just an iron!

    Love i

I really do like the Philips PerfectCare compact steam generator iron – the whole unit is lightweight and small enough to store away without taking up too much space. When not in use, the iron has a ‘lock’ functionality which securely keeps the iron attached to the base.

The irons base has a 1.5L water tank which is suitable for around an hours worth of ironing, providing a continuous steady stream of stream. The huge tank minimises the need to keep filling the iron up.

Iron heats up quickly and steam comes out within a matter of seconds – suitable for ironing/steaming most fabrics, the Philips PerfectCare auto-senses the material so need to keep adjusting the heat manually. This in turn reduces and minimises burns when ironing/steaming. Powerful, convenient and reliable!

There is no need to continually hold the ‘steam’ trigger when using – the overall feel is comfortable and makes ironing a breeze!

Makes ironing/steaming fast with minimum fuss – recommended.

This is a highly capable steam iron/steam generator and its size belies its capabilities – its a dream to use. It’s also odd at first to find that there’s no manual temperature adjustment. It’s size and weight mean that it’s easy to store when not in use.. The generator has a one and a half litre tank which means you easily have more than an hour’s steam on -hand. The tank is easy to fill too.
A built in descaled/cleaning solution is also included which is a real bonus.
At first using this iron takes a bit of getting used to – its size and the fact that there is no need to set temperature. But it is well constructed, generates a good amount of high pressure steam and produces excellent results. It’s very capable and very good value currently. Recommended.

Love this iron, the whole unit is light easy to lift and stow away. The lock function prevents the iron slipping of when transporting. Once switched on it quickly reaches temperature. The cord length is perfect allowing smooth and effortless movement. The constant steam burst gets through tough creases with ease. You need only iron on one side instead of both which cuts down iron time it’s so slick and streamlined. The water tank is easy to fill and holds enough water for a large pile of laundry no need to keep topping up. would definitely recommend this iron.

As steam irons become the modern, more popular choice for ironing clothes, this mammoth Phillips steaming machine will take some people’s iron sessions to an industrial level. If you are a consumer who has many clothes, irons through an enormous pile and knows the benefits of a steamer over a dry iron, this may your greatest choice. A huge reservoir, unrelenting steaming action and burn-free guarantee. However, for those unsure or who like me have some tough creases from certain fabrics i.e. shirts, this steam iron will feel underwhelming. Especially for the hefty price tag, this steamer appears more tailored to some but not all.

This steaming giant is ready for serious action. The steamer arrives as a complete unit, the steamer iron, tank/reservoir, descaler attachment, and the base which plugs in for creating heat when the base’s power button is pressed. The tank impressively holds up to 1.5 litres. Detaching the iron for the first time can be a little awkward, the instructions gratefully provide some guidance to the lock feature on the base. Simply, press the button on the top to release the latch to take off the iron from the base unit. When you are ready to place the iron back on the unit for storage, slide the latch back in place to lock. Unfortunately, this type of steam generating iron means you cannot detach the iron entirely. The iron is permanently attached to the base by a cord that I found frustratingly short and restricting. In contrast, the power cord is of reasonable length at around 1 metre and comes with a neat velcro cable tie.

The strengths of this steam iron are difficult to express, I ultimately had mixed results. This steamer unit immediately is unlike any other, the iron takes two minutes to get hot enough and beeps when ready for a lengthy ironing session with the 1.5-litre tank. Various fabrics work great with steamers, especially what I found from using this high-pressure unit. The iron pumps out continuous steam when holding down the steam button down and swiftly removes nearly all creases the first time around from all light fabrics. Light cotton, silk fabrics, denim and most synthetic fabrics had no issues being steamed smooth. There is no risk of burning or heating excessively unlike dry irons as promised. Best of all, the fabrics I wore like light cotton shirts went noticeably more wrinkle-free through the day than when using a dry iron.

Nonetheless, I hesitate to laud this any further, the premium fee for this is still difficult to justify for regular ironing consumers like me. For a start, there is little convenience to be found here. Expect to be doing a pile of ironing as setting this unit up and using it beside the unit and ironing board requires much needed time. I guess if you schedule your ironing for the weekend or evenings this will not be an issue. This unit will easily allow you to get through six shirts before needing to refill. Be also prepared for serious steam! This definitely proves to be a steam generator, steam releases so strongly and abundantly, the room quickly transforms into a steaming sauna. Ensure you have space and enough ventilation. Finally, the results fall short when it comes to thicker cotton fabric like with some shirts. I steamed and steamed and failed to get a clean result, leaving me back to using a dry iron to far greater effectiveness.

In all, my strong recommendation is to consider how well you need a steamer. This Phillips is safer and easier than dry irons. Also, more effective than also vertical steamers for light fabrics in crease-free presentation. However, the price remains hefty and the convenience remains missing from a frustratingly, restrictive large size and wiring.

Pro steamer maybe not for all

This Iron is indeed a great product and serve it really well. It helps us save time, easy to use and store.

It’s very powerful and continuous steam makes fast ironing — without any need to adjust temperature with Optimal TEMP technology.

Double press the steam trigger and wait half a second for automatic ultra-fast steam, there’s no need to keep hold of the trigger whilst ironing.

This high standard iron is really helpful for my busy family and would recommend for it which is worth for money.

So, having used a regular steam iron for years, this steam generation system took a little bit of getting used to. I want sure about the cumbersome tank but it actually works well and rarely needs filling.
Not having to worry about heat settings is a real joy and although I was skeptical at first it really does work well.
The steam pressure generated is on another level to a regular iron and now I won’t be able to go back! Having the enhanced steam option is not really need but may come in handy. This handled all tasks with ease and has certainly lessened what was my least favoured job!

    Highly recommended!

This iron is excellent and makes the dreaded ironing much lighter work, it heats up really fast and has plenty of steam to get the creases out, the best part for me is not having to constantly fill it up with water as it lasts for well over an hour.

The iron does not feel really heavy and is nice and easy to use, with a nice cord length too so you are not really restricted.
