Gutes Produkt!

No complaints about this PIR sensor which introduces a whole new level of control to sensors. If it had issues in the past the one I bought is having no such issues. I have excellent control over 2 outside Hue lights with this.

Standard PIR’s fitted to normal lights can be temperamental or simply a pain with sensitivity or figuring out how much light will trigger it. This takes the guesswork out of that.,

You can choose on your phone what light you want it to go on in, or the sensitivity, which has been an issue in the past with those attached to lamps.

This is pricey, no doubt but it is good and very controllable. Fitting is easy and the corner fitting shows a good degree of awareness from Phillips of the best place to site a sensor. Very easy to fit – one drill hole was all it took.

Jetzt muss ich mal berlegen, ob mir was Schlechtes einfllt.

Excellent product. It’s easy to install and connect to your hub and works brilliantly. I’ve paired it to an Osram external smart plug, now my festoon lights switch on when I open the back door for the dog.
    Perfect!
It’s got a battery with it that lasts a year.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usersil primo sensore Hue da esterno che acquisto.

    EDIT Sep 21.
a recent update to the hue app may have stopped alexa seeing movement from the sensor, to fix this – disable the hue skill in your alexa app then re enable and rescan devices.
then click the helpfull button at teh bottom of this review.

    Yes you can!
If you just use an alexa routine to turn a non hue wifi switch on when motion is detected you will discover that this will happen all day as well as at night.
In the routine you can select “when this happens” but not two ( when this happens).
For example you clearly need to choose “when hue detect motion” but you can not now select “when- schedule -after sunset”
The solution is to use two wifi switches and these can be bought as a pair for around 10 quite often on amazon, especially if you do not mind a suggested long delivery time that often is far quicker.
The two switches will be wired in series (the first one powers the second)
The first switch, lets name it auto dusk to dawn will be connected to a permanent supply and its output will supply power to the second switch called (drive lights / garden lights etc) its output is connected to your desired lights.
Set up the two switches first and discover them in alexa, call them something meaningful such as “dusk to dawn” for switch one and “drive / garden lights” for switch two.
    To set up the routines-
    In the alexa app,
touch “more” – bottom right of the screen
    “routines”
    ” PLUS SYMBOL” top right
touch “enter routine name” and choose something you will understand later, eg, “auto ON dusk lights ”
    then “next”
then touch “when this happens” and select “schedule” and then “sunset” (you can also set your location for more accuracy here, it may be set already)
You have an option to start the routine before or after actual sunset on the slider bar.
    Press “next”
Press “add action” and scroll down to “smart home” and then select “all devices” and search for your 1st switch you called “dusk to dawn”
The next screen will say “power” next to a tick and on the right is an on off slider , check the slider is in the on position – (the button lights up when on and the dot is to the right.)
    Press “next”
    Press “save”
Now create an almost identical routine but call it “auto OFF dusk lights”
choose sunrise instead of sunset and move the slider to off in the action .

The routine for the second switch is quite straightforward
Call the routine something like “motion sensor lights”
Choose “smart home” instead of “schedule” and then choose “Hue outdoor motion sensor”
On the next screen choose “detected” then press “add action” and then smart home to select your second switch you called “drive /garden lights” and choose the “on” position.
Add another action to set a delay of whatever you like, 5 mins?
then add an action to turn the switch off again.
NB when you add actions in the alexa app they often do not appear in the correct order, just press and hold them and move them up or down to the correct sequence.

Lastly press the helpful button below as this took far too long to type!
Did i miss anything? let me know with a comment.

Also Bewegungsmelder ans Tor angebracht und eingestellt. Funktioniert bestens.

The motion sensing is very impressive. It has yet to fail, which was a concern of mine because occasionally my hue bulbs do fail to receive a command and respond – which I thought might be the issue with this, but not so.
I think the app software could be more sophisticated, I would like more features, but I’m hoping that improves at some point.
The hardware is well made, quality, and well thought out all-inclusive mounting options in one unit. Typically Philip’s.
If the app software was better it’d be a 5 star for sure.

Easy to install and set up in Hue app is really simple. Setting light sensitivity level is really easy compared to the old style of motion detector with the adjustment dials on the unit, the app will tell you if the motion sensor will activate at the current ambient light level.

For this to sensor work with Alexa (and to work at all, you need both Hue devices), you need…

    1) Phillips bridge (it plugs into your router)
    2) A Hue compatible bulb (even if you don’t want it)
    3) An Alexa dot or similar

Unfortunately, stupidly, you cannot just use the sensor on its own to have Alexa tell you when, for example, someone has walked up your garden path. You must have a Hue bulb set up too. Later you can unplug it I’ve found.

It’s as fiddly as sowing a button on a shirt cuff whilst you are wearing it to get it all working. With wonky errors where Alexa says the sensor is not compatible and between the Alexa app and Phillips app they appear to be in competition to hide the set up from you. But with enough tapping and cursing once it’s been installed and you’ve had Alexa recognise all the devices by first setting it up in the Phillips Hue app, and given it all some time to settle, it does all work.

    My example:
    – I don’t use the bulb but stupidly you need it to set things up
    – Without the bulb the Hue app and Alexa apps don’t properly recognise the sensor, it’s pretty stupid and not intuitive at all.
    – When someone triggers my sensor, my Alexas in my house all tell me someone has triggered it.

That’s what I wanted it for.

    – It’s an expensive way of finding out if someone is on your property but it works pretty well. And the Hue sensor itself is lovely quality. I expected it to be huge after reading the reviews, but it’s a nice compact size, about the size of a two packs of playing cards stuck together of and squared off – it’s small and chunky.

    Tips:
    – Set it up first in the Phillips app, once you can see its sensing movement go to Alexa and search for new devices – I seem to remember mine found three – the sensor, bridge and bulb.
    – When I tried to create a Routine in Alexas app, Alexa initially said the sensor was incompatible. But I think I restarted the app, again pressed the setup button on the sensor, and eventually Alexa allowed me to include it in a Routine.
    – If you want to still receive alerts in the daylight you need to increase the daylight sensitivity all the way up to the + symbol in the Phillips app.
    – Leave it in place before modifying any other settings, because I’ve found in some light conditions it sets off false positives so I am currently tweaking the overall movement detection gradually.
    – The Phillips app set up of the sensor is a total puzzle, ie: the set up of what it does when just don’t make any sense and there’s no explanation in the app. Best I’ve found so far is to set the timeouts both to 1 minute and set it to “do nothing” after triggering. It’s a pretty bad design. Of course I haven’t read the manual yet 😉

    Good luck.

I bought 3 of these to work with with my Amazon Echo hub, however although they connect, they normally disconnect within 24-hours and need the button pressing on the back the reconnect. I decided to buy the Philips hub and add the skill to my Echo hub they now work as intended.

Note: you must have at least one Philips Hue bulb to connect to the Hub, before it will allow you to connect the sensors. I found no way around this

Used it in conjunction with a Hue external floodlight. Works & easy to set up. Setting sensitivity to ambient light levels & working times work fine. It does have a long range even on minimum setting (about 10 metres) which I wish I could reduce to 6m. I wanted it to trigger if someone comes onto my property. It currently triggers way out onto the road, so it comes on when people walk past the house.

Really great motion sensor, I paired it with the floodlight and it works a treat. I love how easily customisable the daylight and motion sensitivity is, makes it really simple to just install and then find the perfect sweet spot. It’s also great that you can configure multiple lights from the same sensor so it also turns my landing light on/off.

It also allows different configurations depending on custom timeframes, ie. I can easily make sure the landing light only comes on dim when it’s night.

In classic Philips hue fashion this is easy to setup and get going. Does exactly as you want. I didn’t mount mine for a while so I could fine the best location for the sensor to prevent false tripping from neighbours etc.

It is much larger and heavier duty that the indoor sensor.

There are two ways primarily to hook up this device. If you are a beginner into Home Automation, possibly hooking it up to Hue is enough and you will get a taste for what this device can offer. For more advanced users, you may find the Hue functionality a little lacking in features and wish to use another ZigBee hub. The Hue hub is running in my network and is great and seamless for lighting, I prefer however my SmartThings hub when functionality gets more complicated.

Before purchasing the device, I had read the reviews and concerns around sensitivity but only time will tell if this will be an issue under the different seasons of the year. I consider myself to be trailing this item, but if all goes well, I will probably buy 3 more to dot around the perimeter.

For setup, I connected it to the Hue hub and allowed it to perform its firmware updates (which as standard for Hue warns that it will be around an hour to complete). It was documented that a lot of the initial issues with this product may have been fixed with firmware updates already, so I am keen to see if this is true. I left it for a couple of days before going any further (more down to not having the time to test and connect it up how I would like it to be).

Following these first few days, I then disconnected it from my Hue Hub using the reset button on the back and connected it to my SmartThings Hub as I was not happy with the level of control, I had within the Hue App. You get basic controls for the sensitivity but can only control up to three rooms of lights. That is enough for most, but I wanted to achieve the following: –

    My Rules
    – During the day if it goes dark, based on lighting conditions fade in the lights to settings in the adjacent internal room of the house. (Thanks to its built in Luminance sensor)
    – Send an alert when my house alarm is active or I am away and notify me
    – Turn on the internal lights near the area monitored and potentially switch on some audio.
    – Possibly alert me via Alexa under certain conditions

I have not thought of anything to use the temperature sensor for, possibly something in the winter when it detects it cold outside
Currently I have cameras outside my home, but I have found the notifications to be far too frequent as they do not have a PIR built in and are performing image analysis on the video feeds. This becomes an issue on cloudy yet sunny days, direct sunlight and movement of items where I want to detect movement of people. Too many notifications mean that many of them simply get ignored.

So far, in the past 24 hours I’ve been able to confirm that this device has had no false positives within direct sunlight and moderate Wind and had to test the range to confirm it was actually doing its job (which it was doing really well). My position is at the back of the garden, with several trees/bushes around 3-4 metres in front. I installed it within a corner of my walls at around 2m height with a medium sensitivity.

Through the night I received one notification but checking back on the cameras I could report that this was only down to a cat being directly in the centre of the range. This is not an issue (unless you have a hoard of cats coming to your doors) and may even be a feature for some! I have reduced the sensitivity to the lowest setting but one notification vs 5-10 historically is a much better experience for me and something I can live with.

From the other reviews on Amazon, it looks like placement needs to be considered when using this device and for monitoring the front of my house, I’ll possibly have to think a little harder about its placement to avoid any false positives.

Generally, so far, I am happy and hoping that this works out as intended over the next couple of weeks so I can purchase some more and complete the setup! This product looks more polished and refined than the unknown branded competitors.

I’ve set this up to control our outdoor lights which use meross smart plugs. Really responsive and works great, detection is good the the unit is discreet and installs close the wall. I’ve got it up 2.5meters out of the way and it works fine with good range of detection and the sensitivity settings in the hue app work well.

A great addition to the Hue family, this external sensor can be used to turn on internal or external lights.

I use one on my front porch to light the hallway when I arrive home and to monitor external temperature in homeassistant.

It is bigger than the indoor hue motion sensors but that is as expected.

I tested the temperature accuracy next to 4 indoor hue motion sensors I own and with two other very accurate calibrated thermometers.
I was very surprised to find out that this one (the outdoor sensor) was the more accurate of the hue motion sensors! He was the one closest to my calibrated thermometers (0.2 degrees deviance) and very consistent while the indoor hue motion sensors were about 1.5 degrees off .

Just what I wanted, an outdoor motion sensor with light reading. This comes in handy for controlling my smart curtains, much more accurate to close curtains based on light readings than on sunset/sunrise schedules. Set up was easy and was able to add it to my Smartthings hub using a custom device handler found on their forums.

After a couple of days, these kept disconnecting. I’d reset them, they’d work for a day, then disconnect again. This is repeating constantly! Which is a shame as they seem really well built and when they do work they work really well.

Seem to be more stable now! Still disconnect every now and again but not with the frequency they used to.

If, like me, you thought your device was faulty because the sensor behaved as though it was dark even in bright sunlight, do not despair. I returned my original unit as not working, but when the replacement acted the same way, it was time to look further. It transpires this is a known software issue with some devices, and the problem can be easily cured by using the software update feature of the Hue app to update the firmware after you have installed the sensor in your system. As with other Hue updates, the download procedure can take hours to finish, but it will eventually complete and it will cure the problem. Now this has been sorted, it seems to work well. However, the documentation with the product is abysmal, for example there is no indication of how to replace the batteries, or how often this may need to be done.

Basically it does what it says on the tin. It took less than 5 mins to install by screwing the bracket to the wooden fascia just above my garage door.

I paired the unit to my Hue Bridge first, before taking it outside and clipping it into the bracket. It has worked seamlessly ever since.

We use it with up down lights either side of our garage door which are fitted with Hue GU10 smart bulbs and everything works perfectly.

One of the things I love about this setup is that you can have the sensor and lights set up to a dim light during darkness hours all of the time, with motion then triggering the lights to come on at full brightness or a different colour – I guess the possibilities are endless!

    Very happy customer!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGreat PIR, with the new software application you can control this fantastically. There’s a lot of people complaining about this but I think they don’t actually understand how to set it up in the application properly. It’s got daylight sensing and also a temperature sensor (if you look in the hue labs), so you can adjust the sensitivity of when the light starts to come on, there’s also a time setting so that between certain hours it does different things. So for me between 5am-10pm it’s 100% when motion is detected. However between 10pm – 5am it’s 50% as I try to do my part to minimise light pollution.

This motion sensor is really good, just like the rest of the hue system. Super easy to install.
I’ve installed this to turn on the front door lights. We had sensor lamps but wanted more control so I disabled the sensor and installed a hue bulb and fitted the motion sensor on the wall besides the lamps. It works perfectly.
Using the iConnecthue app (which gives a lot more control over hue lights than the hue app) I’ve configured the bulbs to cycle through a few colours when motion is detected and turn off after a minute and only glows yellow/orange and turns off after 30 seconds after 10pm.
I’ve turned the sensitivity right down, it goes on when a car drives past, but so did the old sensor lights.

I have a copue of these units and they are great additions to the Hue eco-system, they work exactly as you would expect and are very easy to add to your system.

My one complaint, hence the loss of one star, is the flexibility and senstivity for setting the range of the sensor. My drive is around 7m long and the sensor is on my porch – which means the sensor is around 5m from the entrance to my drive / pavement.

Even on the lowest setting I couldn’t stop the sensor from picking up pedestrians walking past. I finally had to use some black electrical insulation tape to mask part of the sensor which fixed the problem.

Frustrating and something I would think Phillips could resolve by adding more options in the app settings. If its fixed in a future release I will revisit this review.

  43. JasonSherer says:

    I really like this.
As a device it’s quite a simple motion sensor and it works well. Being Phillip’s it’s nicely built and feels like it will withstand the elements.

But as with a lot of the Hue stuff it works with Alexa. This is really good as it means that by combining it with Alexa routines you can us it to controll non-Hue devices as well.
I now have it setup to activate a hue light outside, a cheap wifi bulb in the porch and also play a message inside the house via Alexa that something is outside. Although I sometimes change the alert to play one of Alexa’s built in jokes or similar yo add variety. But you get the idea.

    Great stuff.

Very smart looking sensor. It works seamlessly with my Philips Hue equipment. In the app, you can modify the sensitivity to motion and also adjust the brightness (or darkness) in which it starts to operate. It also has a temperature sensor built in but im not sure how accurate it is. with ITTT you could potentially get the lights to turn blue at freezing point 🙂 Theres not much more to say about a motion sensor…. apart from – If you have Hue lights, I would highly recommend it. If anybody reads this and knows the answer, would this device extend the zigbee mesh? Im thinking of putting one half way down the garden so that I can get lights to work at the bottom of the garden.

These sensors were very easy to install, requiring no wires – you just push a button on the back and connect them via the Hue app then fix them to the wall using a screw. The adjustments for light and motion sensitivity are also working just fine, unlike other reviewers posting here.
One point to note is that you cannot use these sensors as an input using IFTTT to control other devices – this control needs to happen inside the Philips Hue application. What this means is that the sensors are only able to control Philips Hue devices (e.g. bulbs, or the Philips Hue plug), or Zigbee-enabled plugs from within the Hue app.
I have got two of these set up – one at the front of my house controlling a lamp that contains a Hue bulb, and another at the rear that controls a set of fairly lights connected via an Innr Zigbee Smart Plug (until I get around to installing the proper Hue outside light I also purchased).

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery easy and quick to setup and install. Connection to the Philips Hue is straight forward. There are controls on the Hue app to adjust sensitivity of the light and distance, however distance is huge and it was picking up movement of people walking along the street. An easy solution is to put strip of black electrical tape over the top half of the sensor to reduce the sensitivity of distant movement. It now only picks up movement within about 3 metre’s, so I’m happy after this easy modification and it’s working perfectly. I have it switching on lights at night if any movement is within the 3 metre range to deter possible intrusion, also security light comes on at the same time.

I added this to my ever growing collection of Hue bulbs (well over 50 by now) for a new outdoor light which I had purchased. Setup was a breeze, especially as I know my way around the app.

The unit is much bulkier than I imagined it to do, however its very solidly built and looks as if it will last for a very long time (so it should for over 40 for a sensor!!). I think the size is partially to justify its price.

I have the sensor at my front door to control the new porch light, however I also have told the app to turn on the lights in the back garden (Hue Floodlights) once motion is detected. I have since bought another movement sensor for the rear of the house.

The range is excellent and this can be altered within the app, the sunset/sunrise setting is excellent as well.

All in all, it does exactly what it promised to do perfectly.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOf all the sensors I’ve used over many years, the Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor is probably one of the most reliable.

With light level, temperature and of course motion, it’s a very versatile device!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersFirst things first, you need to update the firmware for the sensor (the firmware as shipped is a bit buggy). I have this mounted on the fence next to the garden steps so the the garden lights will turn on automatically when you go up the steps. I’ve got the outdoor lightstrip mounted on the fence and this doesn’t seem to affect the light sensor (i.e the lightstrip being on doesn’t seem to make the sensor think it’s daytime). The batteries are pre-installed and you just have to hit the add outdoor motion sensor button in the add accessories section of the app and then press the setup button located on the back of the sensor. The sensor will first flash red and then green when successfully connected. There are plenty of videos online should anyone need help, but the setup is pretty foolproof. The set up options to control the sensor in the app are a bit limiting. There are only two time windows (daytime and evening) and the start of the evening slot is automatically set to the end of the daytime slot. Also the option to restore the lights being controlled by the sensor to the last known state (which you can do with the indoor sensor would have been nice). At the moment I don’t believe there are any hue lab formulas that can control the outdoor motion sensor.

All of this will probably change in the future as the app, firmware for the accessories and the hue labs are updated.

Overall I’m very happy with the sensor (it’s a bit bigger and thicker than the indoor sensor) and I’m sure like all the hue products it will last.

Another really useful addition to the Hue product range

  87. MaudeSmalley says:

Loved this sensor, works really well, takes a little time to go through setting it up to suit your needs, but set up is easy, choosing which lights you want on or off is fairly easy, have set mine not to come on during the day by selecting the DO nothing option and choosing the times and then the opposite for nighttime, also getting alerts to my Apple Home app detecting motion, very cool.

  88. ChesterWhitacre says:

I have two outdoor Hue lights and getting one of these to control them seemed logical but was a little worried about the feedback on the detector.

Setting up in the Hue app is pretty easy, just press the button on the back to pair with your Hue Hub

I am not 100% sure I like the wall bracket which only has one screw to secure it to the wall with another to attach the sensor to the wall bracket.

It also comes with another moulded piece of plastic so it can be mounted on a corner of a wall (both inner and outer corner).

Watching a promo video It seems it also uses a single AA battery for a power source which is supposed to last two years. I would have thought a large lithium button battery would have been a better choice.

The configuration options in the Hue app are the same as that for the indoor version.

You set the ambient light level which if the light falls below that the light will come on, then how sensitive to movement it is.

Then if you want a lower light level after a certain time at night e.g. after 23:00 dim only.

Lastly, how long the light stays on after it has been triggered.

It has been on the wall a few days and all seems well after tweaking the sensitivity (foxes still make the light come on) all seems well.

Golden Review Award: 36 From Our UsersI already had five of the Hue indoor motion sensors, which are excellent. Whilst the need for an outdoor one never really occurred to me before, when I saw one was being released I was immediately interested – it’s a new gadget after all! In fact, it’s a great addition to the line up.

Build quality is up to the usual high Hue standard – a bit larger than the indoor one and predominantly black in colour, with the exception of the sensor itself, which accounts for the lower half of the front dome. It also comes with accessories to enable mounting the sensor in all sorts of useful places – flat on a wall, in a corner, on an outer corner or beam. In my case, it’s the latter, and fitting it took minutes (as did set-up within the Hue app). It blends in really well – glad Hue went with black for the outdoor sensor.

I live in a ground floor flat in a block of six and I’ve paired the outdoor motion sensor with a Hue bulb in the canopy above the front exterior security door to the stairwells. Whilst all the stairwell lights were already set to come on when it gets dark, having this means the outside light is not on all night.

Someone walks in front of the sensor (which has a greater range than the indoor one) and it turns on the light to the preferred level and colour/shade, then turns off again after no motion is detected for the period you choose. All good so far, but that’s not where it ends – the best feature for me, is the fact you can also have the sensor control your indoor lights. The fact that this product (along with all Hue lights and accessories) is HomeKit compatible, means you can set up some nifty automations.

In addition to turning on the outside light, I have a HomeKit automation that will turn on both my lounge and kitchen lights when motion is detected outside – but only if they are not already on.

From a security point of view, this is great – motion-sensing outdoor lights have been a thing for decades, so they are not really that much of a deterrent for burglars. If someone is outside though and your inside lights go on, say in the middle of the night, that’s far more powerful in making someone think there’s someone alerted to their presence.

All in all, I’m really pleased with it – looks great, feels high quality and most importantly, it’s really useful and versatile.

    Another brilliantly versatile Hue product.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersEasy to fit and link into Hue and Alexa. Bit pricey for what it is but does the job with very little fuss.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our Users1. Verpackung
Der Sensor befindet sich in einer Verkaufsverpackung.
    Inhalt: Sensor
    Kurzanleitung

    3. Einbindung ins HUE System
    Im Normalfall. PROBLEME weiter unten.
    a) App starten
    b) Einstellungen
    c) Zubehr einrichten
    d) Zubehr hinzufgen
    e) HUE Outdoor Sensor

PROBLEM: Mein altes Handy.

Dafr DANKE

    Gut und zuverlässig

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThe range on this thing is very good, you do have to make sure it is high enough and not pointing down too much. But when testing walking up and down my drive 50 times with it in various positions, even 20 cm can make a big difference in how far it can detect motion. I haven’t had it long enough to judge how sensitive it is to rain, or foxes yet. I expect I will have to move it or make the area it covers smaller to reduce false triggers. But so far I’m happy, it offers the same features the indoor one has. When setting up the sensitivity bits in the app, I like how the dome lights up green to let you know it has been triggered (note it doesn’t do this once it is setup)

Golden Review Award: 42 From Our UsersWorks as expected (more or less, see below). Good coverage range. Very solidly constructed, with some great mounting options included. A little larger than I expected. Needs to be available in white, but suspect the plastic could take a paint finish if needed. Has the same features as the indoor version, ie light and temperature sensors. A five star product.

I did have a little difficulty initially, the light level sensor wasn’t working. A quick call to a very helpful person at Philips had it reset and up and running. So excellent product AND excellent support!
