Light and easy to use. No probs so far with moderately hard water. Hint – use 50/50 tap with de-ionised water.

    Great steam generato
I bought this steam generator to replace one that just stopped working. This has been absolutely fantastic. The iron adjusts temperature itself but the best thing is that no dirty water spurts out and that always happened with all previous irons. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Brilliant how it knows the temperature to use. Only downside is it is strange leaving it lying flat but it really doesn’t burn anything whilst doing so. Brilliant technology.

Bought this to replace an older version, main points for us is the auto temperature feature ,which means there’s no dial to mess around with every time you iron something.
Able to refill the water tank without needing to remove the tank to fill it.
Auto cut off so if you leave it on when you’ve finished it turns itself off, always useful when you’ve left the house and in the car and you think did I turn the iron off? ( We’ve all been there ).

All the things you want in an iron are featured in this one. It’s light, easy to use and my biggest bug-bear is resolved – I don’t have to keep refilling the water container because it has ample for an ironing session.
It’s also nice and compact, so easy to stow away.

    Great iro
I’ve never used a generator iron before but wish i had. I’m a male and yes we can and do iron. My ironing now takes less time to do than when i used my old iron. The intelitemp is great no fiddling about with dials and you can leave it face down on the ironing board without it burning it. So no need to keep standing it up or moving it on to the end of the board. Also has plenty of steam to do even then most stubborn creases and a self cleaning anti calc mode that let’s you know when it needs cleaning. But with this iron no need to keep buying filters and changing them. The length of lead on this iron is also very good. All in all would highly recommended

Will never not have a steam generator iron agai
I have used a steam generator before but was keen to try this out to see how it compares. The size of these steam generators remains an issue with me as my ironing space is limited and has been awkward for me to have this on the board but on a positive note the large 1.5 litre tank means that I don’t have to refill the water as frequently as i do for a regular iron.

The iron itself works well and with the steam generation there is a significant difference and find it nicely powerful and can iron efficiently with much ease. The handheld iron part is quite small and lighter than my old iron, the water is pumped via a hose from the water tank. This is a bit of a problem for me as I don’t seem to be able to drain the water from the hose when I have finished and am concerned about the water staying in the hose and becoming stagnant when left, time will tell. One thing i don’t like about the main iron is that it cannot self-stand like a regular iron so it has to be returned to the base every time you want to put it down which is quite inconvenient when ironing smaller items. This iron claims to have a no burn gurarantee but if i’m honest i don’t fancy testing that claim.

There are pretty much 2 settings, normal and boost with no temperature control , which feels a but strange but takes no time to get used to, it heats quickly and evenly to an optimum temperature and does work well. It can also steam vertically which is ideal for getting creases out of hanging garments or giving curtains or other upholstery a quick steam. Other useful features include an auto off after a few minutes of inactivity which is good for safety and peace of mind, there is also a self cleaning setting if like me you live in a hard water area and calcium build up is a problem. Unfortunately for me this is what ends up destroying my irons over time so again, time will tell how effective that is and how long this iron will last.

Overall the build quality is pretty good, i have had many phillips irons previously and they seem to be very consistent on design and quality. If i’m honest i would have preferred a smarter and sleeker colour scheme as the white and blue is very bright. The whole thing is quite bulky and cumbersome, it is a bit of a pain to store especially if you are limited on space.

The price at the time of review is 150 but does have an RRP of 180, which for me is quite expensive for what is essentially a glorified steam iron. I will say though i am very impressed, ironing is much more effortless and quicker with good results. At the right price i think i will never not have a steam generating iron again, it has been good to try this out as i probably would never have bought one off my own back.

Perfect temperature for all materials. None of that stupid filter stuff but it comes with an anti-calc tray thing. Haven’t tried it yet but it looks simple enough. Heats up very quickly. The lock button is quite a good idea. It keeps the iron locked into the water tank so it doesn’t fall off.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersJeremy Irons with this
If you’re in the market for a steam generator iron the look no further than the PerfectCare range. Why ? No temperature control = no second guessing if your iron is too hot or cold and so no worries about burning your clothes or ironing board cover. Go from jeans to lycra and back again with no waiting and cut your ironing time hugely.

As for this model, although compact, that is more the size of the base unit and not the iron itself which is standard size. The tank is smaller than the larger models but I’ve not once had to refill whilst ironing. It’s big enough for most families in other words and easier to store. It is easy to fill directly from the tap and the locking mechanism means you can carry it one handed (don’t tip it if it has water in or it will spill) which is so useful. Ironing results are excellent and it comes with a de-calc tray for when needed. Not keen on the bright blue colour of the tank tbh but it’s not like I will be showing it off down the pub. Get one, it’s great.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat steam iron and very quie
Bought this to replace an old Phillips steam iron I’d had for 10 years which eventually gave up the ghost. Was immediately impressed with the size of this which is about 1/3 smaller than a lot of steam Irons you see, making a lot more compact and easier to store when not in use, but doesn’t give anything away in terms of power or performance.

I’ve used this on jeans, men’s shirts, school clothes and heavy weight jumpers and this has sailed across all of them no problem, doing a great job in keeping them crease free and ready to wear.

It’s also a very quiet steam iron as well. The steam pump on My old one sounded like it was trying to dredge water from the centre of the earth each time I used it, so been very impressed how quiet this one is in comparison.

Great buy and would highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAll-in-one & practical iro
I had spilled some water on the power cable of my old iron and it obviously had saturated into the wires inside because even though I left it for a while to try to dry out, it kept blowing the main fuse box in the house. So, time for a new iron!

I like that this iron is very self-contained and was designed to keep the cord tidy when not in use. The cord is wrapped around the base of the iron, below the water tank, and is simple to extract to use, and just as simple to put back.

The power cord can also be bunched together and kept tidy with the small velcro tab that is attached to it. I tuck this under the handle when putting it away and it avoids having cords hanging loose to trip on or be pulled.

The iron itself is simplicity itself. It has one button to turn it on and off, and under the handle is the button to release the steam. It glides over the clothes like it wasn’t there and produces enough heat to get the job done.

The iron sits on top of the base and has a catch to lock it into place when finished with it, so that the whole unit can be carried in one hand, even with a full tank of water. The opening to put water in is fairly small, so it needs to be filled slowly and carefully.

I had my last iron for nearly 15 years and hope I have this one just as long. I think I will.

    Amazing
So I’m the one that irons in the house and to be honest i was after a new iron for a while

This arrives in the branded box shown on removing all parts which where well packed, the iron and steam tank are well made and durable the colour is great and complements my kitchen well.

The iron is attached to the steam tank by a nice long hose wire combination

The steam tank is quick to start (max heating time of 2 minutes! ) and especially no need to adjust the iron (my previous iron asked me to turn a dial for settings 1,2,3 to adapt the temperature of the iron to the garment I want to iron) because the temperature adjusts automatically (I was able to iron more delicate clothes and other cotton clothes, alternating, without worrying about the temperature change).

Another advantage an anti-limestone system and an ultra practical storage. As far as storage is concerned, all wires are stored in the power plant. The iron also has a button that allows the iron to stay attached and carry it serenely, without being afraid of getting burned.

If you want quality work, amazing results and half the time this is defo for you seriously highly recommend

Good but the tank could be improved
Right now I don’t have to iron my shirts as I don’t have to go to the office. But when I have to go back, which I hope will be soon, this product will be my salvation!
In the box comes the base-tank with the iron and an accessory to clean the lime scale from the iron. The length of the power cable is fine, as is the cable that connects to the iron. The latter comes wrapped around the base, and could perhaps be a few centimetres longer. At the base, where the spout of the iron is located, there is a safety button that allows you to hold the iron in place to prevent it from moving. It is very easy to close and open. As for cleaning the limescale, it warns you when it is necessary to do so. This is really useful depending on the type of water in the area where you live. So far I haven’t had to use it.
In my case I was using a very normal and small iron, so it has been a big change. This one is bigger but very light, with a pressure of 6.5 bar. A big difference is the automatic temperature control, which takes some getting used to, as the iron sets the temperature for you.
As for the steam button, it has perhaps a bit of a slow reaction time, as steam continues to come out for a couple of seconds after releasing the button. Something to keep in mind for safety.
What I didn’t like too much is the water tank. Filling it is a minor problem because there is always a bottle or jug to fill it with water. But emptying it… you have to remove the iron (so you have to wait for it to cool down) and turn it upside down. And the way it’s designed, it’s almost impossible to pull out all the water. It should have an option to remove the tank.

Compact, lightweight no burn steam iron that cut your Ironing time in half.
Ironing simplified. No more burns, no need for temperature adjustment between each fabric. One of the finest quality lightweight iron that will cut your Ironing time in half so you can enjoy doing what you love.

1.5 litre transparent tank that enables you to do continuous Ironing for 1 and half hours without need to refill. Iron is very compact and lightweight and glide on fabric easily which makes Ironing less of a chore. It generates a lot of steam that does most of the iron and soleplate is just to finish off for best results.

Iron handle is ergonomically designed to grip the iron without any discomfort. This element is very important to us as my wife has arthritis fingers. This steam iron fits perfectly on our Minky Ironing board and cord provided is long enough to reach our sockets . It also has self cleaning (de scale) button on the back and comes with a calc clean container. You are prompted with a calc clean warning light and buzz every 3 months to perform a cleaning function in order to maintain your steam iron.

We are very impressed with the new Philips PerfectCare Compact Steam Glide iron and would definitely recommend it to any family home where time matters.

5 Stars for Compact Steam iron that is safe on all fabric.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAmazingly powerful jets of steam
The power of this PhilipsSteam Generating iron is amazing. The steam pressure is high so the iron is perfect for disinfecting materials as it irons.

The powerful jets of steam easily penetrate the clothing that is being ironed so it is much easier to iron even the deepest creases whilst cutting down on the time it takes to complete a task.

What I really like about this iron, apart from the amazing steam pressure is the fact that I can now iron my clothes in only 1/10th of the time it takes with a traditional household steam iron.

The iron’s plate is well designed and runs so smoothly over the material, leaving no creases behind as it glides along. The iron is surprisingly light due to the design and the materials used.

Considering this steam generating iron comes in at only 50% more than my latest steam iron, which is also a Philips, it makes for exceptional value given that it saves me up to 90% of the time it takes to do the same work with the other iron, the pressure is amazing for an iron, it is well built and even has a lock for the iron so it can’t be accidently knocked off the ironing board. The normal steam is powerful enough but there are also two other settings, one gives a three (3) second extra powerful blast of steam, for those stubborn creases or to intentionally put creases in trousers , pleated skirts etc. and there is a Max setting ( press and hold the on/off switch for a few short seconds) which gives extra powerful steam for as long as you want it.

I am recommending this brilliant household tool as it is good quality, very good value for what it does and makes both easy and light work out of a much hated chore. I might even use this for ironing curtains, which I normally don’t do as it won’t take long with this machine.

Pro steamer maybe not for all
As steam irons become the modern, more popular choice for ironing clothes, this mammoth Phillips steaming machine will take some people’s iron sessions to an industrial level. If you are a consumer who has many clothes, irons through an enormous pile and knows the benefits of a steamer over a dry iron, this may your greatest choice. A huge reservoir, unrelenting steaming action and burn-free guarantee. However, for those unsure or who like me have some tough creases from certain fabrics i.e. shirts, this steam iron will feel underwhelming. Especially for the hefty price tag, this steamer appears more tailored to some but not all.

This steaming giant is ready for serious action. The steamer arrives as a complete unit, the steamer iron, tank/reservoir, descaler attachment, and the base which plugs in for creating heat when the base’s power button is pressed. The tank impressively holds up to 1.5 litres. Detaching the iron for the first time can be a little awkward, the instructions gratefully provide some guidance to the lock feature on the base. Simply, press the button on the top to release the latch to take off the iron from the base unit. When you are ready to place the iron back on the unit for storage, slide the latch back in place to lock. Unfortunately, this type of steam generating iron means you cannot detach the iron entirely. The iron is permanently attached to the base by a cord that I found frustratingly short and restricting. In contrast, the power cord is of reasonable length at around 1 metre and comes with a neat velcro cable tie.

The strengths of this steam iron are difficult to express, I ultimately had mixed results. This steamer unit immediately is unlike any other, the iron takes two minutes to get hot enough and beeps when ready for a lengthy ironing session with the 1.5-litre tank. Various fabrics work great with steamers, especially what I found from using this high-pressure unit. The iron pumps out continuous steam when holding down the steam button down and swiftly removes nearly all creases the first time around from all light fabrics. Light cotton, silk fabrics, denim and most synthetic fabrics had no issues being steamed smooth. There is no risk of burning or heating excessively unlike dry irons as promised. Best of all, the fabrics I wore like light cotton shirts went noticeably more wrinkle-free through the day than when using a dry iron.

Nonetheless, I hesitate to laud this any further, the premium fee for this is still difficult to justify for regular ironing consumers like me. For a start, there is little convenience to be found here. Expect to be doing a pile of ironing as setting this unit up and using it beside the unit and ironing board requires much needed time. I guess if you schedule your ironing for the weekend or evenings this will not be an issue. This unit will easily allow you to get through six shirts before needing to refill. Be also prepared for serious steam! This definitely proves to be a steam generator, steam releases so strongly and abundantly, the room quickly transforms into a steaming sauna. Ensure you have space and enough ventilation. Finally, the results fall short when it comes to thicker cotton fabric like with some shirts. I steamed and steamed and failed to get a clean result, leaving me back to using a dry iron to far greater effectiveness.

In all, my strong recommendation is to consider how well you need a steamer. This Phillips is safer and easier than dry irons. Also, more effective than also vertical steamers for light fabrics in crease-free presentation. However, the price remains hefty and the convenience remains missing from a frustratingly, restrictive large size and wiring.

    Easy to use iron.
Hate ironing, love this. Works well on all fabrics. Speeded up a job I don’t really like and made it less of a chore. For that it gets five stars.

    Great steam iro
It is a great lightweight steam generator iron with great safety features such the locking mechanism so that the iron does not move when on the base and that it switches off when not in use. I also like capacity for the reservoir for water, the additional turbo mode and ease of use.

My slight dislike is the short cable length particularly when doing the bedsheets, the fact that you have to place the iron back on the base as there is no way it can remain upright and lastly the fact it has no temperature control.

So annoying they discontinued the filter cartridges for the old model as there was nothing wrong with the iron. New iron is just as fabulous if not more, so every cloud as they say

    Brilliant Iro
I particularly liked the weight of the iron. It heats up quickly and speeds through the ironing saving time on the previous method. It is much simpler to use choosing the right ironing temperature automatically to suit the material being ironed and produces plenty of steam.

Our previous generator iron failed due to scale despite my efforts to keep it free of scale. This one has a descaling facility so I hope it will be better.

This is vastly superior to my old iron. The steam’s more efficient making it easier to get creases out of clothing (even those that have been in the tumble dryer for a little too long). Word of warning, you will need to release the steam button a few seconds before lifting the iron from the garment otherwise the power of the steam will make a very load noise (petrified my cats/dogs before I got the hang of the new ironing technique). I really like the safety catch so that you can neatly put it away even before it’s cooled and the descaling function is so quick and easy (I live in a hard water area). All in all, this is a great value iron, which offers superior performance to others I’ve used.

Direct replacement for my previous Philips steam generator iron, purchased in 2010.
It seems altogether smother, a little lighter and probably a good descaling procedure. (The previous one not so good in this respect).

Golden Review Award: 77 From Our UsersGreat Performance / Modern Design / Efficient / Low Maintenance
I purchased this steam generation iron to replace my existing iron which was also steam generated. My iron has lots of limescale build up and the hot plate was heavily corroded. I made sure I purchased a steam generation iron as my previous one lasted over 7 years with moderate weekly usage.

I would never go back to my first ever iron which was a hot press iron as they’re not as efficient of effective at ironing.

Moving on to the product in question – Philips PerfectCare Compact Steam Iron.

    ANESTHETICS-
The iron is really appealing on the eye. It’s of a white and blue colour but I believe it also comes in a range of other colours such as, purple. I purchased this colour as it matched its environment and it was the only colour on sale by 50%!!

The iron also consists of an LED light bar on the main handle which actually pulses until it has reached temperature. This may seem unnecessary now, but when you’re passing time and waiting for the iron to heat up, it’s a quick indication that the iron is ready.

The cord can be folded and tucked into the base which makes storing away easier and less messy.

    ERGONOMICS-
The iron and base combined is not considerably heavy and the iron itself when using is suprisingly quite light and easy to manoeuvre.

I have big handle so I can’t comment on users with smaller hands however, the handle is very comfortable to hold and doesn’t feel too big/small.

    FEATURES-
As mentioned already, the iron has an LED light indication bar which also makes a chime once the iron is ready. The iron has 3 modes to choose from – Normal/ECO/Turbo. The names of the modes are obvious to their functions however, I can’t see a massive difference between each mode. Selecting the modes are easy and the bottons illuminate different colours according to their mode; Normal (Blue), ECO (Green), Turbo (White). Normal mode is activated when selecting the power button. ECO is activated when selecting the ECO button. Turbo is activated by holding the power button for 2 seconds.

    USAGE/MAINTENANCE-
The Philips PerfectCare iron doesn’t just look the bits, it is also much more powerful than any previous iron I have used. I have used it to iron four baskets worth of clothes in around two weeks and the water reservoir has only just finished, which is impressive. I haven’t used any fancy smart water in my device, just regular tap water.

The iron has a lock mechanism at the top which holds the iron in place when not in use and prevents the iron from being knocked off.

The device has a descaling mode which will auto trigger after so many uses to clean the internals of the iron. The iron will flash upon start up and will not let you proceed until a descale session has completed. In order to descale, you have to place the iron on a descale tray (provided with iron) and hold the ‘calc-clean’ button for 2 seconds. This will then run a descale for 5 mins and you need to ensure the reservoir is atleast half full. Once the descale has completed, you need to wait a few minutes for the device to cool down and flush any last bits.

    DISLIKES-
Filling the unit with water involves pulling the cover door down at the front and filling directly into the unit. The iron comes with no portable container to fill up the unit and unfortunately, the tank cannot be removed. This means you would need to carry the iron to a sink to top up. To make matters worse, if your sink is too small like mine, you’d have to use the bath/shower. I have since found an easier way, by topping up using a pop bottle container.

Another dislike for me, is the hideous descaling tray which I feel should have been built into the base of the unit somewhere. The tray is bound to get lost over the years which will make descaling very difficult.

    CONCLUSION-
The pros definitely outweigh the cons and I’m overall pleased with the iron. The price, power, modern aesthetics and efficiency has completely won me over.

I have given this iron 4 stars as in my opinion, it’s great but there’s still room for improvement.

I previously had a Bosch steam generator iron that was large and very heavy. This one is small and very light but has an incredible 6.5bar of pressure.
The fact that there is no temperature control takes a little getting used to – it sets the temperature for you, and the way you sit it plate down on the ironing board when not in use is also strange at first but this is an amazing iron.
It also comes with an attachment to clean limescale out of the iron and will tell you when it needs doing, very handy if you live in a very hard water area.
I couldn’t recommend this iron enough
