Practical For Sanding WorkThe PWB 600 has a two-piece work surface which allows working materials to be clamped in the centre. The sloping surface of the blade clamps allows work to be performed very close to the edges, when sanding for example. You can then keep your sanding paper close at hand in the integrated storage tray on the frame. | Suitable For A Wide Range Of ApplicationsThe bench top is moved into position using two cranks, which can be adjusted independently of one another. This offers excellent flexibility for many different materials and applications. | Simply Fold Away And StoreThe PWB 600 work bench comes with a practical folding mechanism, which allows it to be set up and taken down in just 5 seconds without the need for any additional tools. The portable bench also takes up very little storage space when folded up. |

I’ve reviewed a lot of things recently, all of which have received one or two stars, so it’s a nice to receive something that deserves a good rating.
The bench arrives assembled, that’s a star there on its own. It’s rock solid in construction and simple to use and store. The work surface feels huge compared to some of the cheap models I’ve had in the past.
A great work bench!
So easy to use and no sharp legs sticking out when you fold it away like other types of workmate.
It is of light weight construction (around 12kg) but a very sturdy platform to work on.
Regards to the height. I am 5ft 11 and feel this workmate is a perfect height for me as I dont have to bend to use it.
The only negative I can think of is the bench doesnt open quite as far as i’d like but with the 4 plastic wedges provided generally i’ve found some form of configuration for the job i’ve been doing
This workmate alternative is better than id imagined, arrives fully constructed in a loudly advertised bosch box, basic cardboard protective corners, so easy to use, light weight, can be raised and lowered in seconds. supplied clamping dogs work well, fitting securely however placed, and have there own unique storage section.
Im beyond happy with this, having used it recently to adapt my wifes cattery, this has allowed me cut 2 by 1 with ease, along with plywood sheets, made my life so much easier, the folded footprint is small, ideal for storing away in a shed or small storage area.
Every time I use it, my wifes approaches me with a thick black permanent marker asking “please let me write BISH BASH above the BOSCH logo”
I have to fight her off, laughing, claiming ” only if I can then write my choices on the fridge and washing machine”
she then backs off, both of us laughing!
A REALLY good bit of kit for home DIY use, I couldn’t be any happier than to give this 5 stars and recommend highly, a super purchase
Have only used on my garage floor & seems very stable & easy to open & close. Only criticism is the instructions are very minimal as seems to be the case with everything these days. Perhaps the career of technical author/illustrator should be taken more seriously by Bosch & other companies.
This is a nice work bench, but it has a few issues. The first issue is fundamental, and that is the poor metal box section used in the legs. I purchased this work bench and had it shipped to Thailand where I live. It arrived with a slight bruise in one of the legs on arrival. This tells me immediately volumes about the thickness of the metal in the legs. It is inadequate. Bosch have attempted to cut the manufacturing cost by using lower cost materials in the legs. A box section wall thickness of 3 to 5mm would have beefed the legs up and made this a highly stable platform on which to work, but what it has is 1mm box section that is too flimsy. Bosch….I would have paid the extra to have an extremely sturdy unit with extended longevity, so why have you build this unit cheaply? Other than this the remainder of the work bench is admirable, but it might have been useful to include more than four plastic holding dogs. Finding additional Bosch plastic dogs for the table additionally appears problematic……do the Black and Decker Workmate dogs fit?!
A quality Workstation, pricey but you only get what you pay for at times.
Nice worktop area also, a nice addition.
This is a great little product. Being wire-free makes this extremely easy to use – especially getting into small gaps. The battery life is respectable, but the only issue I have experienced is that the glue stick can fall out quite easily, so sometimes needs to be held in place with your other hand which is not always practical.
Still, for the money I can’t complai
Superb German engineering, design and build – quality light weight but highly useful work table
Came out of the box ready assembled which many other brands don’t. That’s always a plus for me. A good wide work surface and it seems sturdy enough for my purposes.
Some users complain that it is ‘flimsy’ and not up to doing their contract work. I think they miss the point – it is not a ‘contract’ bench it is a home DIY work bench the main functions of which have to portability and ease of use/carrying. In those respects it fits the bill perfectly. If you want a ‘contract’ bench then buy a ‘contract’ bench and don’t try to get by wih a DIY one.
Delivered earlier than stated. As stated in previous reviews not rigid enough for serious/ heavy work but for DIY etc seems ok. Better finish than my old Workmate no sharp edges, bigger work surface is useful, handy bracket for keeping clamp dogs safe. Easy to set up & collapse.
I’m terrible at DIY. This workbench makes it look like I know what I’m doing. Great big top means my tools fall on the floor far less often, it even has a cute little cubby for your pencil (of course, my big Man Pencil [knife sharpened of course] is too big to fit in the little pencil cubby, just as it should be).
This workbench is for Serious Stuff (and you can set your drink and sandwich on it when you’re done).
Ideal for general light duties around the home, easy to open / close.
Great workbench just as described. Sturdy but lightweight and will be well used….highly recommended…delivered quickly
Bargain ! Very happy with this, I had one before but used it that much it was time for a replacement.
Fantastic little Glue gun heats up very quickly (about 20 secs) replacement glue sticks 7mm are available at most D.I.Y stores.
The only reason I did not give this a 5 star rating , is that sometimes the glue stick falls out depending on the angle you are using it at.
Even if I think it is slightly overpriced I still recommend it.
actually very good. Spent ages researched and nervously selected.
Good sized top.
excellent quality.
Amazing the easy set up and collapse works really well.
Happy to recommend this nice piece of kit, pleasing to use.
July 2017 now and have to say this is one nice piece of kit. Excellent. I have had many in my life, I’m 61, and this is by far the best and a pleasure to use.
If you have a 20 yr old B&D bench-refurb it and retain it.Its like an old Land Rover, built like a brick WC!The newer B&D benches are lightweight, smaller and insubstantial and moreover require a 40 min.self assembly and we’ve all done our IKEA apprenticeships……
Comparing the B&D with the Bosch is like comparing the Model T to a modern Audi.
1 As soon as you lift the Bosch out of the box it’s ready for use unlike the self assembly B&D(see above)
2 Don’t be put off by the aluminium and plastic construction of the Bosch – its properly designed ,German engineered and made in India .
3 Operationally anything the B&D can do the Bosch is up for it
4 Having said all this I’ve kept my refurb’d ancient B&D just in case……
The Bosch is c.24+ more expensive than the mid B&D but in this sector of the tools market you get what you pay for.
Simply: Excellent
Easily put up and fold down.
Stores easily.
Couldn’t live without it.
The table is great. It folds quickly and I can store it next to a wall taking little space. It is sturdy when open seems that it can take a great deal of weight. This is the second table. I bought one for my father and after seeing how good it is I then bought one for myself. I might not be for very heavy duty but for occasional work around the house it does a very good job. For heavy duty work people usually have strong heavy duty desks in their workshop.
Solid work bench for DIY purposes. Assembles easily and stores well away. Used for mobile work or when workshop was not an optio
Got my Bosch workbench yesterday.
Also have a B&D workmate, which had to be assembled. The Bosch bench came assembled and ready to use which is super handy.
It has a wide work area (much wider than the B&D) and for my light to medium home DIY it’s perfectly stable and solid.
So far it’s been a joy to use and I would definitely recommend it for the regular DIYer …
Will post an update in a couple of months.
Some of the tiny screws came loose, it’s a little more flimsy than I expected for the price but overall good.
Once I had mastered the art of putting it up and down again (not easy one handed), this is a perfectly serviceable workbench. Sturdy and well designed for the not too complex tasks I undertake. It is quite heavy and stiff to manoeuvre but I imagine this adds to its stability. All in all a decent piece of kit.
Since purchasing the Bosch workbench I’ve used it a every week an find it excellent. I decided to purchase this particular workbench as I liked the design and upon reading the specs it ticked all the boxes. I needed a new one as my old one was very old and damaged.
It certainly hasn’t disappointed, the large table makes it excellent to working with larger pieces of wood, also holding securely. It folds and unfolds easily, when folded it’s very narrow which makes it brilliant for storing. Love it.
As a tradesman I highly recommend this. It’s very well made, strong and extremely easy to fold and open with one hand and foot. Great when you are holding your cup of tea.
Not made in England rubbish, quality product looks good works well, well worth the money, and well pleased.
I love gadgets. So when I saw this rechargeable cordless glue pen I just knew I had to have one! I’ll admit it was an impulse buy and for a while it sat in the desk drawer but I’ve found when I need to stick something down I’m now turning to this little gem more and more! It heats up quickly and does a good job! Please don’t do what I did and touch the end to see if it really does get hot enough being cordless as you’ll end up with a sore finger like I did!
Nice product but it came minus buttons to extend support leg hence 4 stars.
Great well made workbench. Doubles up as table for bbq
had it over a year now best work mate I’ve had to date.
An excellent, light weight work horse, I now have two, so that says it all.
I had a 50+ year old Black and Decker work mate inherited from my dad. It slowly fell apart but I couldn’t bring myself to buy a modern workmate because they weren’t a patch on the original. I saw this and thought the quality was good and I must say it is a pleasure to use – I think my Dad would have approved!
This is the fifth time I have owned a Workmate. The best by far, bamboo work surface, light to carry and very versatile. The first I had in the 1950s with a cast aluminium frame and was new in every way, this is the well developed Rolls Royce of workmates… get one!!
good work bench
plus point is the bamboo work top and ease of opening up
bad point is it is bit wobbly
but overall a good work bench
Only recently purchased to do some home DIY. Took about 15 minutes to set up and get the hang of the adjustments etc. Should be OK for my average DIY needs. Speedy delivery and service, happy customer.
Arrived quickly and hubby is very pleased with the quality. It was well worth buying this and not a cheaper version.
Bought this as a present for my son who loves making things and DIY, he says it’s great, fine for doing woodwork on a modest scale.
Unlike the B&D workmate, this one folds pretty much flat. In addition its solid when up, something that is really important if using circular saws! Nice large work space too! B&D you need to re-think the workmate!
Fantastic… Well built, quality item… much better than the other cheap-looking equally/more expensive work benches (I’ve tried most of them!). I would recommend this bench to anyone whose looking for a solid, well made quality work bench that looks like it will last years… Excellent!
A wonderful bit of design – efficient, easy to use with clearly enormous thought given to ergonomics for storage, etc. Hats off to the designers. It is way ahead of any other folding workbench I have come across
Three things I really like about this bench is it’s very light, but this also causes a problem when sawing or drilling due to instability. I like the working height, as I am tall I don’t have to stoop whilst working. I also like the way it folds as it folds very quickly.
This is the best home/hobby shop portable work bench I can find in extensive research. I had this item shipped to the Continental US for an extra overseas fee. Well worth the cost!
Easy to fold and transport, light and sturdy, good vice and work surface.
A well constructed work bench, I have an old Black & Decker workbench (30yrs old) and my son wanted one the same. On checking the latest models and reading many reviews I bought the Bosch workbench and I am very glad I did. It equals my old Black & Decker one. I will not hesitate to buy one for myself as and when I need to..
It Seems OK. Time will tell.
A replace for for my long suffering workmate which sadly will continue to be misused by me way above and beyond the call of duty.
This looks better than the workmate. If you are very short you might be better off with a workmate as this is higher and not adjustable. Fine for me though. Adjustment handles could be stronger (just plastic) a possible weak point but this also applies to workmates even my very old one.
Great service ,the bench. Is great to work with and light. Weight as stated, This should of been out years ago. Move over black and decke
Bench O/K. Two screws fell out of support leg because the threads were worn? Decided to repair myself could not be bothered to start sending things back.
After having used the original black and decker workmateI have now upgraded to this high quality product. Much sturdier and much more versatile, worth every penny
Massive top surface compared to most benches and made from very strong bamboo ply. It is lightweight and very portable when folded; easy to erect and collapse once you know what you’re doing. The only slight negatives I can think of are that the aluminium frame can feel a bit wobbly under load at times and the clamping dogs are a bit too tight for the holes in the work surface so take a bit of persuading out.
I bought mine as a ‘return’ for 77 (I think) and it was well worth that; at full price I think I would also look at the competition’s products.
This has been the perfect workmate so far. Solid grip, good build quality and easy to fold up and pack away. (also makes a good kitchen unit at a pinch)
Bought to replace my ancient B+D Workmate, it is good quality and very easy to erect. The working area is also higher than a workmate, which suits me as I’m very tall. I shall probably refurbish the old unit and keep it for dirty jobs.
No doubt as everyone else does I read all the reviews on different work benches.I was prepared to pay a premium to get a really good bench,as with most things in the long run it is actually more economical to buy the best you can in the beginning.I nearly didn’t buy this bench due to the negatives i read on stability issues, however regardless of this i continued with my purchase on the grounds of my excellent history with Bosch products. The Bench is indeed incredibly easy to erect, and has a very low profile to stow away. The first thing that REALLY impressed me was the Bamboo worktops,AND the large worktop area, the Bamboo will be weather proof, and very durable well done Bosch! The clamping dogs stow on the plastic cross brace, again great idea! There is a storage tray for a tape + pencils etc-It is covered when the bench is open, however this is not a fault just a design constraint. The bench is very simple to uproot and move around with great locking mechanisms, its light and very easy to manoeuvre in and out of a vehicle/van,the clamping mechanism & handles seem well constructed,i haven’t forced them but i take it from the fact the handle gets tight that the clamping must be done parallel, again i appreciate that mechanically the mechanism would be a lot weaker to allow this articulation of the top. Finally Stability/Build Like I said this Bench has many great qualities over others, the actual worktop being the very best I’ve seen by far. However after three months of use i can confirm this bench does have stability issues, even on level ground with all legs firmly seated there is flex in the legs, which causes a twisting in the framework with vigorous sawing etc. This somewhat shocked me in the early stages of ownership,to the point of nearly returning it.Why didn’t I? Well like i said this bench does have lots going for it,so much so that i have kept it.Bosch should have made the aluminium legs of a thicker wall material and i think this would have resolved the issue, its aluminium so wouldn’t have added much weight. The stability doesn’t cause me any issues with smaller tasks,& general woodwork,Im a contractor so this will get used quite hard from time to time-so far so good.
REVIEW UPDATE!!!
Sadly as thought after time 6 Months this bench has started to fall apart,I’m constantly retightening screws & tweaking things,NO WAY could you ever carry out heavy sawing on this,it would definitely buckle and fall apart.Ive purely given this three stars, because some of this bench is excellent! IE the bamboo work tops, the way it quickly folds up into a very small space, the work top area is large.Treat this bench with kid gloves,as its fragile-Bosch is falling apart at the seams to be producing stuff like this! Bosch at one time always meant quality!
PLEASE READ!!! 1Yr Update!
Ok My review stands as before,However I can confirm after a year of use,NOTHING has actually broken or fallen apart, although I do CONSTANTLY have to tighten things up,screws come loose all the time.Ive upgraded my rating from 3 – 4 stars because of this. This bench has many, many good qualities.Ive left this out in the rain for a week! with NO adverse effects or issues with the bench.I really really hope BOSCH bring out an improved bench,I will be first in the que!! Its very easy to collapse & fold,& takes up hardly any room. Please Please BOSCH make the legs a little tighter & from thicker material & use different fasteners.
Love this, I have had other workbenches in the past – but this is the best one. Massive work area, easy to setup and put away.
I brought this Bosh Workbench as I read all the write ups regarding the black and Decker ones and this appeared to come out on top. The one thing which I loved about it was I just took it out of the box and it was fully assembled no need to try and put it together like the black and Decker ones. all in all very pleased with it, light easy to carry and stores away very easily, what a great buy and well worth the price!!
Think he liked it, am awaiting the first completed project. At least this one is not left outside. It looks great he says
Nice but I would have given the option to increase the height to ground level and above 95 cm to accommodate tall people
Sturdy and adaptable, used it as a base for tile cutting with the power machine, rock steady, good quality dont think I will need to but another but would.
Bought it as a xmas present for husband who was made up with it. He finds it well made, looks good, very steady and easy to use. There is not enough grips to hold things in place. The second negative is that the gap does not open as far as he would like.
My husband wanted this bench for christmas. He searched the internet thoroughly for a bench that ticked all the boxes. The reduction from the recommended price was a bonus.
This is perfect for me. It’s strong, light, easy to use and a good sized working platform. Happy to recommend this over other well known brands.
I have used lesser branded work benches before and they are more trouble than they are worth, this one is brilliant, goes up in seconds and a pleasure to use.
Having had a Black & Decker Workmate for years, I need to purchase a new work bench, for occasional DIY. I read various reviews for the Black & Decker and this Bosch one, and went for the Bosch one. No regrets! Light and very easy to use.
I like this a lot. It has helped me no end in basic DIY. The one single change I’d make it to open the jaws a lttle more (5 or 6cm) so you can get really chunky pieces of wood in there. This has now become my most used garage item though and I couldn’t do without it. Well worth paying a little more for a decent brand like this, in my opinion.
ARRIVED VERY PROMPTLY AND VERY WELL PACKAGED,I JUST WISH I’D BOUGHT ONE SOONER TO REPLACE MY OLD B&D ONE WHICH DOESN’T HAVE THE SAME BUILD QUALITY THESE DAYS BUT HEY HO BOSCH ARE THE WINNERS AS THIS BENCH IS BEAUTIFULLY MADE AS SO SO EASY TO PUT UP ITS UNBELIEVABLE! LIKE I SAID IN THE TITLE IT DESERVES MORE THAN THAN 5 STARS.
My original B&D workmate was on its last legs after over 25 years of use. As I had a lot of years of use from it I looked at replacing it like for like but was disappointed at the quality of the new ones so decided on the Bosch. Having now used it I found it to be perfect for my needs and would recommend it.
I’m not a big DIY expert but this is very solid, easy to put up and makes a good portable bench even if you just use it to put your paint pots on when decorating to save you bending down!
I owned anther workbench from B&C and it is heavier and when used as workbench for woodwork like planning,(B&C is more steady)
The surface of this new bench is larger, so, a larger size can be worked on (+)
Strength vertically is excellent. (200KG)
Much easier to transport. (lighter in weight)
borrowed a black & decker workmate off my brother inlaw to make a planter for my garden but he wanted it back half way through the job so thought about buying one on amazon, read the revues and was supprised to find you had to construct the bench when it arrived, read that black & decker had lots of plastic parts that did,nt last, read up on the bosch workmate and the revues were all good and bought one, it came already assembled, two clicks an it was ready to go, its light but robust, great design an packs away neatly, am glad I did,nt get a b&d who are living off their name, if your thinking of getting a bench I would strongly recommend a bosch
I PURCHASED A BLACK & DECKER WORKMATE 825 WHICH WAS AN ABSOLUTE PIECE OF RUBBISH.I NOTICED AFTER I RETURNED THE ITEM THAT THE REVIEWS WERE VERY VERY POOR. THIS IS A PRODUCT THAT HAS TO BE REMOVED FROM SALE AS IT’S AN ABSOLUTE EMBARASSMENT AND SHAME FOR ANY DECENT MANUFACTURER.
AFTER I RETURNED IT I PURCHASED THE BOSCH PWB 600 WHICH IS WORTH EVERY PENNY AND IT’S A HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT. OF COURSE WILL NOT TAKE SERIOUS ABUSE, ONLY FOR LIGHT DIY JOBS.
EASY TO OPEN AND FOLD BACK AND COMES FULLY ASSEMBLED, READY TO USE.
VERY HAPPY WITH MY BOSCH PWB 600, WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND
I do quite a lot of DIY around the house and garden and have often thought a workbench would be an asset. After deciding to buy one I read the reviews of the various ones available on the market and decided on this one – I have not been disappointed. Its very easy to open and close, well made and sturdy in structure but not heavy to carry and folds flat to a depth of just a few inches so is easy to store away. Not that I’ve stored it away much – I purposely keep finding jobs to do so that I can keep on using it!
My husband loved this, he is 6ft plus tall and doesn’t have to bend over this product to use it.
Great price for a great name.
Bosch does not only makes very good tools, but they even look good. It looks almost too good to use with the Bamboo-would. Used it twice up till now and did what it had to do.
Made in India
I have given this a good long “road test” before writing this review. I really like this bench especially the generous size of the top and the ease of erecting and folding away. Before I bought this I noticed several reviewers had mentioned stability and you do have to find a good level surface, but I had no problems with this. Working with sheet materials is so much easier and the top seems to be hard wearing too. The only useless feature ( for me anyway) is the little tool tray ” for all the pencils & screwdrivers etc” which is completely covered when you open the jaws more than the a few millimetres! Having said that this is a good sturdy bench which folds flat enough to store on wall or behind a door.
My Bosch workbench.
My husband loves it…his old one has been well used and this one will be…a well made bit of kit which arrived here in France very quicly…Thank you
This bench is even far superior to my original B&D bench which is still in use. I expected it to be lighter but with quality comes weigh
Great product…already assembled…good lightweight yet strong enough for the job…
Folds away flat. Previous positive reviews are spot on and I agree.
a good quality nicely designed product just a shame that plastic hinge parts have been used as in my experience these are the bits that fail. When will manufactures realise this or is it done on purpose?
QUALITY PRODUCT AS YOU COME TO EXPECT FROM BOSCH. HAVING READ REPORTS OF BLACK AND DECKER, DECIDED TO PAY A LITTLE MORE AND HAVE NO WORRIES
so easy to set up and store away, light, yet sturdy, just the job for a keen DIY’er,would definately recommend this product.beats the black and decker model hands down.
Well made, sturdy, excellent finish. It feels sturdy, unlike most of the other workbenches I have tried recently. Too many are made from really cheap mild steel that bends when you look at it.
This, is very well thought out and put together, if you want a workbench, this is the one to go for.
Delivered quickly by Yodel to North Essex (Saffron Walden). Arrived in Bosch box in good condition. Simply unpacked it, had a quick glimpse at the instruction book just to be sure and opened bench out ready for work in seconds, it was as easy as that. Nothing to put together, no additional tools, easy to operate and light to carry yet feels strong. Ingenious design by Bosch. Simple to collapse and fold away, no getting fingers caught or struggling, it’s a very easy bench to operate and finished to a high standard. Made in India written on box but don’t let that put you off buying one of these, this is typical German quality. Very slim when stowed. My wife will be able to operate this with ease it’s so simple to set up and take down. Has a very large bench top when open, giving a nice big flat work surface. The red plastic clamps which fit into the ready made holes of the work top can be stored underneath on the framework in purpose made holes, a feature I like because you know where they are and are easy to retrieve when you want to use them. Has a useful indent/tray area at the front for leaving a pencil or some screws while you are working. Handles work well and I noticed that the threaded bar connected to them and the vice/worktop even has a dab of grease on to keep it running smoothly. Being a keen DIY 56 year old with a lot of projects on the go including constructing a decking verandah outside our new conservatory, I think this will prove to be a good purchase and because of the build quality it will probably see me out! I recommend this product. UPDATE.3/6/13. Had this for a week now and have used it mostly for sawing 4 x 2 timber. I have to agree with a previous reviewer who said that it wobbled about when he was sawing wood. This is because of the excellent height of the bench and the fact that it has many joints in the fold out/in legs. I’m still glad I bought it. It’s quality. I have since also purchased a B&D 301 from Amazon at a very good price. This is slightly more stable than this Bosch 600 when sawing wood, but the height is too low for me. I was put off buying the B&D 536 or 825 by all the negative views, but now I’m wondering??
My son has just bought a house and this will be very useful for all the work he needs to do. Very well built and finished, looks great. I will have to wait and see how it stands up to use.
I needed something to support jobs i do around the house (fed up proping wood against iteme or working useing good table), looked arounb B & Q ..went on internet spied the Bosch 600, thought seems like good value as i saved a good few pounds and the postage was free , was delivered within 5 days. Unit folds up easily to flat therefore easy to store.
altogether would recommend this workbench …James
The workbench is well built, folds and unfolds easily, is a good height and the screw mechanisms work well. It feels like ‘good quality DIY’ to me, which is what I wanted.
I considered the Black & Decker but after reading the reviews about the quality being poor I opted for the Bosch. I have no regrets, this is a quality piece of kit and should last a lifetime, well done Bosch.
Easy to erect and collapse only way I could see to improve it would be to have a single cable release for the front buttons but thats only a very minor observation and in no way detracts from a great bit of kit.
Highly recommended.
Very pleased with the service and the product was just what I wanted only problem was that one of the clamping dogs was missing
I had intended to buy a Black & Decker Workmate, but my it was out of stock at my local store and, judging by some of the reviews on Amazon, this proved fortunate! By contrast this Bosch Workbench is well made, is a good working height, has a good sized top, folds flat nicely and looks like it is built to last. I would certainly recommend this product.
Fantastic ,very sturdy and doesn’t let you down in use. Looked at a Workmate initially…no competition..very thin metal, bad reviews..wobbly so didnt buy. Not the same as the used to be. Can the recommend the Bosch to anyone..
My husband had one of those cheap workbench, the hinges were twisted, so as I am now doing a bit of DIY , I decided to treat myself to a Bosch one.
It is light to carry, easy to open, has a wide top surface, and is stable . Does not wobble like the old one. My husband’s workbench has gone to the rubbish
I am very impressed with the Bosch version of the Black and Decker Workmate (which I used to own and this replaces for me) as it really is a well engineered and properly product designed item. The folding action is very easy and results in a sturdy platform for working on; which is the main requirement after all! In terms of materials the use of Aluminium rather than sheet steel for the frame means that there is no paint finish to chip and go rusty (if kept outside in a shed), no sharp edges and also results in a lighter item to carry around. I think the folded depth is a bit less that the Workmate too. I was intrigued by the use of Bamboo for the worktop pieces and they do seem to be very dense and harder that the usual plywood used for these surfaces so should be very durable in use. The finish on the Bamboo surfaces is quite shiny so I do find that work-pieces have a tendency to slip about so it would have been better to have a more matted finish but this will probably improve with use and wear (or you could run a bit of abrasive paper over it). I don’t know if the tool tray is so useful but is handy for pencils and small tools – you can’t keep things in it when the bench is folded though. One thing I did find with the tool tray is that it obstructs the front underside edge of the worktop so it is not possible to hook a clamp under the front edge which is slightly limiting in where you can position things. The only other item which might have been better is the cross bar at the front base of the frame, on the Workmate there is a full width step which you can rest a foot on to steady the bench, the Bosch one is quite flimsy so I would have liked this to be a bit sturdier so that it could perform a similar function. It’s a shame that a great British invention was not further developed along these lines but that seems to be a familiar story! Really recommended if your Workmate is clapped out or you are considering a first time buy of a folding workbench.
Superbly stable, easy to pack away and has stood up to the small test thus far. I cut, it doesn’t move. Packs away neatly to fit into my modest hall cupboard and has impressed everyone who has seen it.
Would definitely recommend it.
As an Engineer i am always looking for quality in every item of DIY kit i buy,so when it came to a fold away bench i looked at all the usual brands and found this, i did the usual, read the reviews and thought i’ll have one of these, ordered it Christmas Day about 1900Hrs ish. it arrived @11.45 on the 27th, now thats what i call seriously good service.
The item, this bench really is brilliant,it’s so easy to put up you could do it in the dark, the same with putting it away, the engineering is exceptional,it’s built to last, light weight, it has that solid feel about it.
Well done Bosch, German Engineering at it’s simple bes
Very solid build, stable when erected, work area is of a generous proprotion ( bigger than most ). No assembly required, just take out the box & make something! folds very flat for easy storage & not too heavy.
I was undecided over this and the Black & Decker workmate but after reading the reviews of the B&D I decided to invest a bit more in something that would last hopefully for years.
I wasn’t disappointed – the Bosch is a beautifully crafted piece of work. Solid and well-engineered and looks like it will last me for many years of hard service.
Worth the extra money in the long run in my opinion.
It is ready assembled in the box and folds into action easily and intuitively. Am so impressed with it that I haven’t had the chance to fold it away yet.
Wish I had got one of these in the first place, Cheaper versions will do the job but this one is good quality sturdy, easy to use and will stay the course.
We recently bought a new ‘old’ house and this purchase has proved invaluable as I get to grips with DIY. Well made, not too heavy, strong and well designed. Good for the price and should last.
This really is the Rolls Royce of workbenches, lightweight and compact yet strong and sturdy. Not cheap but far better value than other manufacturers products I have used in the past.
I had almost given up on finding a proper folding workbench. Like many I have given-up on the original Black & Decker range since whey introduced the cheap plastic caps that the threads screw into, as these break all too often. Indeed the B&D range is so cheaply made that they provide no meaningful service life. The Draper, Clarke and Sealey versions are no better, although the Woolcraft range has some redeeming features but lacks outright strength.
But the new Bosch PWB 600 is in a different league to them all.
The machining, fit and finish of the load-bearing parts is incredible. The folding action is super smooth, easy to accomplish and produces either a stable platform or an ultra thin square shape for easy storage. The extra large top deck is welcome, as is the use of bamboo and you can even snug-up a stool or similar as the overhang at the rear can cater for your knees. The dogs are well made, do the business and stow away at the rear of the lower green bar with the Bosch logo. Of equal quality is the tool tray, which is a well finished metal tray that should cope with robust use and it does not get in the way. The black bar near floor level means you can slip a foot or toe on it to provide extra stability when wrestling with more challenging project.
Hard to find many negatives, but being picky I would have liked the imbedded metal ruler to fit flush with the surface and have inches as well as metric. A slightly larger span to clamp larger parts, without resorting to the dogs, would have been nice too.
Clearly designed with the professional in mind, the price (given the quality) will attract the premium end of the DIY market. For the DIYers that have suffered a failure of the other types of workbench should look at this too, whatever their budget.
A must have item for the mobile professional or the DIYer who is looking for a product built to last – fantastic!
Well designed and engineered, strong and stable, easy and quick to erect and collapse. Doesn’t, as far as I can see, adjust for height, so a bit tall for lengthy sawing.
Very fast delivery.
I could write several pages about this workbench, but that would be very sad!. Anyway the previous reviewer has said it all really. Suffice to say that it is high quality German engineering at its best. Very strong, very light and so slim when folded you almost can’t see it! It will undoubtedly outlast me.
