This is just right I wish the compartments were bigger, but if they were it would be too big. It’s sturdy and so far the trash tipping Basset hound has not been able to get into it. Fingers crossed

It’s nice and does what it should. I’m thankful it wasn’t dented like others showed. But it closes quietly, of course if you throw food and stuff it’s gonna stink no matter the fragrance pod. I still think it’s over priced, I think it’s worth about $40, honestly.

Was concerned this size trash container would be too small. But so far it’s working out fine. Having the recycling bin in the same unit was a priority. It’s a quality product. Soft close lid is a nice touch. It did have a small dent on arrival but I was able to remove it by gently pushing it out from inside the container so it’s no longer noticeable. I’d recommend using their bags. Only a few cents more per bag and the convenience of the included dispenser is worth it in my opinio

yes, as featured: smudge proof for sure, but with a great stainless look, quiet close, But the other features — this can actually contains an interior pocket that contains packets of replacement liners. The double lid eliminates the liner showing from the closed can. However, it is not motion detective — not this model. Mine has a foot pedal which I actually prefer.
This dual compartment kitchen trash can was pricey but solved a lot of problems. It is sturdy and it has plenty of room and it keeps my space very neat.

This trash can is wonderful! We’ve had it for 4 years and it has been great.
Why the 4 star rating? Apparently the hinge gets tired and breaks because when I went to get a replacement part, they aren’t available. I got added to the waitlist, was notified they were in, went to order, and they’re gone.
I “chatted” with robo-responder and now have to wait for a response, which could be next business day.
I spent a lot of money on the can, expect better service.
Love the slow close lid and the ease of changing the bags. Definitely buy the simple human trash bags as well because they fit perfect and are easier to remove then regular trash bags and they are thicker as well. Also it’s great how the bags have its own place in the back of the can so when you change them all you have to do is reach inside the can and pull a new one out.
I have a simple human trash can that is over 10 years old and still going strong. I purchased another for a different location. I went through so many trash cans before getting the first simple human trash can. I didn’t want to spend the money again for SH, but I have loved how reliable, well made, and still looks new the first one has been, so I went ahead and purchased another. I have no regrets.
This replaced one of those automatic lid trash cans that the motor burned out on and was a pain to keep around. I have had this for a few months now and the trash can liner is held into place very well and the foot opener has been far more reliable than the popular motion sensor lid we had on our old trashcan. Less things to break.
Recently stayed at a cabin that had this trash can. Literally came home and ordered one. No batteries just step and it opens. Beautiful and sleek and holds so much trash! Recommend the bags that come with it too. They are awesome!
I feel a bit stupid saying that a garbage can makes me happy, but this one does! It is so attractive, so spacious, so perfect! I love how it has a quiet closing lid, and how the compost bin (purchased separately) sits snugly on the side. Worth the significant cost!
Simple human makes great products. I had a simple human garbage can for years and finally needed to replace it. Not because it stopped working or due to the product itself, it was just time to change to a rim that would prevent a plastic chewing pet from getting the liners. This is perfect. The oet can not get the plastic liner edge to chew on and all is well. A beautiful product that I am sure will last for many years.
Looks very nice and durable. Cleans up well and fits nicely. The garbage side is a bit small, you will be emptying the garbage more often. But I knew this. I wanted a place for recycling and this fits the purpose.

This was the best investment in our kitchen. The engineering of this product is unsurpassed. Whether you use the foot press to open or just grab the full lid, access is immediate yet what’s visible in your kitchen is like a piece of furniture. I want to be able to recycle and this interior handled blue container provides easy access and removal. Now I’m the first to admit this is an expensive trash can but how many times a day is it used, 20, 40? It’s used more often than any of my appliances so I made the investment.
I use standard 13 gallon drawstring trash bags where I cut the orange tie ribbon on one side so I can knot it in place. The bag stays in place perfectly. I can still easily remove it, pull opposite sides of the ribbon to close and there’s enough ribbon left to securely knot the top at the bag.
Would definitely recommend.
I have had this trash can for over 2 years now. It still looks brand new with dogs and kids, thats impressive. The step peddle hasn’t broke which I have noticed to be the problem with cheap trash cans. I was worried about how much trash it could actually store being a square shaped, smaller opening but it actually holds a LOT. Didnt think I would love not having a bag for recycled items but actually it is great. I rinse the can when I dump it and spray a tad of lysol cleaner or 409 in the bottom for next time. I buy knock off brand bags which means I cant use the little convenient holder but I don’t mind. The off brand bags come in a HUGE box and last like a year, seriously. They are strong as heck, havent had 1 break on my like used to happen with hefty or glad in my old can. I will for sure buy this can again if and when mine dies. Who knew a trashcan was so exciting?! Lol I love it so much I just took out trash and thought to write a review. 🙂
Over a period of many years, my wife and I have been frustrated with the different bins we’ve bought for depositing our household rubbish and recyclables. Our most recent ‘steel’ bins (one for general rubbish, and another for recyclables) lasted three years before the enamel on them wore off and unsightly rust started to show through – when new, they looked trendy and stylish, but now they had to go! The dilemma we faced was what to replace them with. After we had spent far too much time researching our available options, we both agreed that this 58 litre ‘dual compartment’ bin from the simplehuman range more than fulfilled all of our requirements:

Our simplehuman bin arrived within four days of ordering it, and came in a branded box, with a reassuring amount of thick recyclable cardboard packing sections to adequately protect it during transit. I was pleased to see that no environmentally unfriendly polystyrene was used. Incidentally, there’s no assembly required, you simply take it out of the box, remove its protective packaging, slip on one of the white plastic liners (a complimentary pack of 10x ‘H’ bags is included) place the bin in your chosen location, and use it!
I do have to mention that we did think twice about whether we wanted to spend this much money on a bin, but you know what, we’re now pleased to have made the investment on something we use several times each day, and which should provide us with many years of good service. We’ve been using ours for a few days now, and we’re very happy with it, it’s definitely a lot more convenient than any other bins we’ve used in the past, it’s been built to a high standard, and a lot of thought has gone into its design. Oh, and one last piece of information, should you decide to buy one of these bins, don’t forget to register your purchase on the simplehuman website, you’ll need to supply the serial number, which you’ll find on a barcoded label stuck to the outside rear of your bin (just below the liner compartment). Anyway, I do hope my review has been of help to you, all I can add is that this is definitely a product my wife and I would highly recommend.
A far more civilised way of storing your rubbish & recyclables!
I have had my Simple Human stainless steel can for over 9 years now. I cant tell you how many step trash cans I have been through over the last 30 years which all have never lasted. The Simple Human trash can has stood the test of time and abuse my family has put it through without any issues. I also love the sleek design-fits seamlessly in my kitchen area.
I see reviewers complaining about the lid becoming squeeky-mine did as well at one point but that was due to debris getting caught in the hinge -cleaned it out well and solved the squeek.
I just purchased another Simple Human step can last week for a recycling bin as I had an under cabinet recycling bin for many year only to discover that the interior of the cabinets held the stink of any recycling cans or bottles (rinsed dog food and cat food cans) Ditched the under cabinet recycling bin and now have a side by side Simple Human garbage and recycling cans .
The new one I just purchased has a plastic lid but stainless steel body and step, which is fine by me to distinguish the difference between garage and the recycling bin. I am a big Simple Human fan-I have the motion activated soap dispensers all over the house as well for over 10 years.
I purchased the dual trash/recycle can, 16 gallons. It arrived in perfect condition and was wrapped excellently. I’ve only had it for a week, and I would prefer to give a review in six months after I actually have time to use it, but as a one week review I can tell you this — I suggest purchasing the bags that were made to fit the bins, as they are Square shaped instead of rectangular. If you use store-bought bags, you’ll have to work to fit the top edge of the bag down around the rim of the liner bin. Secondly, because the circumference of the inside bin is square you must make sure your items get in the bag — don’t toss them in because you might miss the bag. I don’t care for the back compartment for the bags as it is kind of a pain in the neck to get to, but it’s not the end of the world. These bins don’t hold as much as my old simple human can, therefore, I am changing my trash much more frequently. Heads up — there is no liner bin for the trash side of the can – there is only a removable bin for the recycling items. We fill our recycling items quickly, and even though we crush them down it really fills fast. This blue liner bin has a nice handle to help lift itself out of the can, and it washes easily. The foot pedal is nice and long so you don’t have to stand directly in front of the can too push on it with your foot. It closes so softly (which I’m not used to) that you don’t hear it and I keep catching myself turning back to see if it actually closed. Makes me feel foolish! I do suggest keeping the can an inch or two away from the wall. I tried flush against the wall but then the lid doesn’t automatically close every time. The finish on the outside of the can is very nice and so far I have had no smudges.
Other than the individual bins not holding as much refuse than my old trash can I have no complaints — and that is not really a complaint because the size was stated in the description.
It looks sharp, works as described, I think it’s a little pricey, but if it lasts as long as my old one (nine years and still going) then it’s worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this far. We will see what happens in six weeks, six months, or longer.
I normally wouldn’t spend so much money on something is simply supposed to hold trash, but I was getting tired of scents leaking out of my cheap plastic bins. This can does a surprisingly great job at containing scents, even despite the gaping hole in the back of it (which is for holding spare bags).
As for investing in the simplehuman ecosystem, I’m finding it to be entirely optional yet beneficial. The bags, while expensive, seem to last longer for me and thus are arguably cheaper than buying regular bags that don’t properly fit the can and/or break, requiring a second bag. Another negative of committing (see: spoiling yourself) with the fitted bags is they aren’t exactly easy to find in brick and mortar stores. The availability seems to be ok on Amazon, though.
Part of the rating addresses “smudge proof”-ness of the can, and I opted to give it one star because it is far from remarkable. My dog smudges it constantly when he sniffs it, but then again I really don’t care about whether my garbage receptacle is pretty. It would also appear that motion detection is part of the rating too, to which I also gave it one star because the model I purchased opens via a pedal, which is my preference.
Overall I highly recommend treating yourself if you’re looking for a buy once cry once trash can. I have yet to encounter any mechanical issues with it and it holds my trash along with the scent, so I am very happy with it.

Except that 1 month in the lid started making a wake-the-dead RACKET whenever it was opened.
A few squirts of Jig-A-Loo in the outer hinges (see picture) took care of that.

Good but not worth the price. Compartments are small and limited to the amount of trash it holds. Have to purchase their bags to fit the compartments.

Quiet close function and doesn’t rub against wall; but squeaks when opening and have to keep foot on step to keep lid open (somewhat of a quick close)

Easy foot pedal to open lid. Closes slowly and quietly. Size is larger than expected. Holds a full 16 gallons and strong bags.
