I have an extremely irritating colleague, who very much likes the sound of his own voice. He also believes that everyone else enjoys hearing his voice and uses it the loudest most obnoxious ways possible. I personally dislike the sound of his voice and after purchasing these headphone I now no long have to listen to it. The noise cancelling on these headphones is extremely effective, combine that with great sound quality & that they are comfortable to wear – I can now easily last through his long warbling monologues and still enjoy using the headphones after he has tired himself out..
Can also be used to block out nagging partners – although a lot riskier as you cannot here the sound of projectiles flying towards your head. Adequate protection is provided by the area being covered by the headphones themselves… it is easier long term to wash the dishes.

The best on ear headphone about sub 300

The sound on things like Beyerdynamic & Bang & Olufsen will certainly be better, but as a package these are very good.

The bass is very firm & compressed & does need trimmed a couple of notches IMO.

The best feature is the pass through option – apply your right palm to the right earcup & it amplifies the outside world.

I bought this on black friday deal for 159 and I am delighted! I checked endless youtube videos to see if model WH-1000XM3 is much different to WH-1000XM4 (newer) and was hesitating. I am so happy that i got this ones! They are 100 cheaper than WH-1000XM4 and i think they are good enough. Used them for short plane travel and I am honestly in love!! Worth it!

This is my second pair and I think they are very good. They are comfortable and the music quality is outstanding.
The controls on the earpiece are a little fiddly and need a bit of practice.

    Excellent noise-cancellation!
For sound quality, I think there is too much bass sound, and string instruments sound muddy, not suitable for classical music
Also, the headphone a bit bulky and heavy to me

    Great noise cancellatio

Great pair of noise cancelling headphones . I use them paired with an iPhone X and old Mac Pro . No issues and the sound quality is great . Download the song headphone connect app to make adjustments to the sound .

I was slightly disappointed having bought used products before from Amazon . I was expecting some kind of cosmetic issue as described . However , they were completely missing the case and in-flight adapter The headphones themselves are amazing , worth the price I paid . Look nice , sound nice and have great features . No problem with Bluetooth to my Samsung S20 , but not quite so easy with my Ipod .. but that could be me . Used them with the included cable instead .
Still getting used to the volume control .
They are described as silver , but more a soft brown colour .
    Overall very pleased.

Bought a pair of these for myself and later for my Girlfriend since these are so good! The noise cancellation is great and I use it for work since I get distracted by sounds easily. The audio quality is great but I would recommend adding a lot of top end in the EQ. Otherwise these headphones can be very bassy and muddy sounding. However, with those adjustments they sounds great. Awesome case too, I actually use it as opposed to my previous headphones in which the case was not grea

I find they can hurt the ears due to pressurisation issues. Otherwise, they’re very good. Not so comfortable on the head as everyone claims. My senhiessers Momentum 2’s are more comfortable despite being heavier and connect to 2 devices at a time seamlessly.
This sony can only connect to one device at a time, and is a far bigger issue than I thought as so few devices have headphones sockets and need to be connected via Bluetooth and its a pain in the ass to disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth manually all the time.
I’d recommend the the xm4 instead for this feature alone, or seinhiessers or bose.
Apple and Samsumg Please bring back the plug in goodness of a headphone for convenience.

I’ve never paid more than 18 for a pair of headphones before. Sound quality isn’t all that important to me. However, I have become extremely noise sensitive to the point where I was having panic attacks at sudden loud noises. With these on, playing music, I can’t hear anything else. I can’t hear any sounds from outside, I can’t hear anyone talking. (But if my mobile rings or a text arrives, the music stops and I get the alert in the headphones -perfect!) The only thing that gets through is if a dog barks loudly in the same room, and even that is not too bad. I don’t even hear a bark from a different room. These have been a lifesaver. I just wish they’d come in some more cheerful colours! Really comfortable to wear as well.

This is my first noise cancelling headphones and I cannot switch back to normal headphones. The noise cancellation is amazing, and very helpful in very noisy environments where you can focus on your music and do what you want in your bubble. The touch controls are a bit fiddly but once you learn them its okay.

The sound quality can be better. For a 200 headphone, I feel the sound quality can be better. I guess some people are on the fence when it comes to this. You can change the settings in the app but it is quite fiddly.

Try these out and test for yourself. For the most part, I believe people will be happy with this product. But for audiophiles definitely try it out.

They are very comfortable in use and so adaptable in their ability to work wirelessly. To listen to Full Organ Music – a Vierne Organ Symphony or the spoken word. And the sound volume is altered at the wave of a hand – quite literally!
The internal battery is charged quite rapidly and lasts a long time.

The headphones are lovely. Pretty design and great sound. I bought them for the amazing noise cancellation, which was advertised as the best in the industry. Unfortunately, they don’t really cancel TV noises or conversations. I have to either use the ear plugs with them or turn on the music to cancel such noises. I hope Sony will improve this in later versions.

I have tried various headphones over the years, in the past I have had a Bose noise-cancelling model, Beats Solo etc., etc. These Sony’s came up at a great price for Black Friday, I checked What Hi-Fi and they were still recommended, even though there is a newer model. Best money I have ever spent on headphones:
    >great sound, as far as I can tell (old ears and some hearing loss)
    >the noise cancelling is excellent. Using them in the kitchen in the mornings I can’t hear any of the ‘unnecessary’ sounds like the kettle boiling etc.
    >Really comfortable to wear
    >I have taken one star off for battery life, my Beats Solos were a bit better for that
    >Excellent connection via bluetooth

Great noise reduction but was left disappointed in the build quality and the over complex set up. Does it really need an App? They feel and sound like 120 headphones rather than the 220 asking. Personally would prefer the same NC technology in a product without the Alexa, App and unnecessary trimmings.

Cant fault the sound but they feel a bit flimsy. Still struggling with blutooth. They could take a lesson from B&w headphones. I know they are intended for using out and about but they could be more generous with cable length when used at home. As for downloading updates to make them operate fully ??????? Still trying to make app work.
We shall see in time about durability.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI may not be an audiophile, but I am someone who prioritises sound quality and overall experience when it comes to headphones.

Across the years I’ve used many different brands, such as Sennheiser, Phillips, Beats, and some random Chinese brands here and there.

All I can say is, I’ve found the perfect pair of headphones. It simply cannot get any better than this, for me at least.

The sound quality is crisp, the base is warm and powerful, and the noise cancelling silences the whole world before you.

    These are perfection for me.

    Pros:

    – sound quality is incredibly good, there’s so much richness when you’re listening to a song, podcast, movie, literally anything. You can catch the details in the background and you actually feel like you’re there in that very moment.

    – the bass is BEAUTIFUL. When I say it feels “warm” it’s kinda hard to describe. It feels smooth, slow, and very powerful. It’s not aggressive in the sense that it sacrifices the sound quality, it’s just the perfect balance.

    – NOISE CANCELLING is A1. The moment you put the headphones on (not even turned on) every around you naturally becomes silenced. But when you turn the headphones on? That’s true silence. You can hear your own heartbeat from the silence alone, it’s almost scary. The headphones has adjustable settings in the app to configure how much you wanna adjust the noise cancelling based on the different environments, and let me tell you, it’s insane.

    – EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE, honestly, I’ve found myself wearing these for 8-12 hours straight without any discomfort. These are perfect for travelling and relaxing.

    – BATTERY LIFE is top notch. It says 30 hours on the box and it isnt lying. I’ve only charged it once for the WHOLE week because I use these a LOT for many hours of the day. Oh also if you press the power button once, you will be told what your battery life is, which is a great feature.

    – the touch sensitivity on the right earcup is nice, I like not having too many buttons on my headphones. The “NC/AMBIENT” button is great. I can hear the outside world very clearly, but not overwhelmingly.

    – the app is really good, contains many features to adjust the noise cancelling, sound quality/bass/treble etc, it’s packed with many functions to adjust to ones needs.

    – Bluetooth connectivity was very quick and easy, no issue there.

    Cons:

    – wish it was designed in a way to store better, the fact that one earcup has to close to be stored in the case is kinda weird but you get used to it.

All in all, if you’re someone who wants quality, and for a long time, these are the headphones to get. The price is completely justified as these are incredibly good quality.

Personally for me, I don’t need another pair of headphones, these are my main ones permanently.

    100% recommended.

    Perfection in its Purest Form

I was hesitant to purchase these headphones at first due to the cost, but I was recommended to purchase noise-cancelling headphones from the people I work with so I went ahead and bought these headphones after searching exactly that here (opt for noise-cancelling instead of noise-isolating if you really dislike noise)

What a dream these phones are having owned them for a few months now. They do a very great job at blocking out sound and was absolutely satisfied by my purchase.

I always have the noise-cancelling mode set to on – rarely do I have the ambient sound mode on but that would be useful in certain circumstances if you needed to hear train announcements for example when travelling.

I primarily use them in my flat as I work from home and I live directly underneath a couple.. which have caused difficulty concentrating and relaxing with their loud music and everything else for a few years.

The great thing is the long battery life. You have to wear them for several hours before a significant drop in battery level and if you’re out the house you can just connect the phones to your laptop via USB and by the time you get back, the percentage would be higher than you’d expect.

Some things I didn’t like were the lady’s automated voice turning on the headphones or switching the setting, which could get a bit annoying after while if you were regularly changing settings.

Another thing I experienced was the phones connecting to my iPhone’s Bluetooth instead of my laptop’s often, if my phone remembered the device. But turning off Bluetooth on your phone solves this and isn’t such an issue after doing that.

They stay on perfectly without slipping and are surprisingly comfortable to wear, even after several hours.

As far as sound quality goes, I do notice a lot of bass listening to music as I’m an audiophile. For some it could be an issue but I really don’t mind about that, since my intention of buying this product was to mask away noise, not experience a balanced range across the audio spectrum.

I do notice some sound does slip in like cars passing by if you leave the window open or if someone drops something from the above flat but in all it does an incredible job at blocking out certain sounds.

To minimize hearing loss, I often just wear this product without listening to any music or sound at all – just power them on and let the noise-cancelling do the job but sometimes you’ll need to combine the headphones with music or (my favourite) white noise, to drown out the sound that’s bothering you!

If you’re experiencing issues with noise or PITA neighbours in your apartment building, I highly recommend these!

Everyone keeps saying these are in direct competition with Bose quiet comfort II. I’ve been using Bose QCII for over 2 years now, very happy with them. Lightweight, comfortable, excellent noise cancelling, great sound quality. I predominantly use them for work (conf calls etc.) as well as for music.

Wanted to gift wife a set of decent headphones. First I considered Bose QCII, then thought give these a shot, to get something different in the house.

As soon as I put them on, these blew Bose QCII off its pants in terms of sound quality. The difference is immediately noticeable. I immediately realized I made a huge mistake of listening to XM3 as I can never enjoy music in QCII now. I could hear & enjoy things on XM3 that I didn’t even notice in QCII, these are that good, believe me you.

It’s a shame that microphone on these isn’t working great. Someone on the other end told wife about it and then we ran a few tests. Attending to calls (using phone or PC for zoom/MS Team calls or normal phone calls) results in the other person hearing muffled, crackled sound with a hint of hiss. Never happens with QCII.

Not sure if it’s the issue with this particular piece or a general issue with XM3. So unfortunately these will have to go back. But in terms of sound quality they have ruined my QCII forever…

I have very sensitive ear, so it is not an easy journey to find suitable headphone for me.I tried almost all top level headphone, but still no luck with it.
After searching, the choice goes to Sony WH 1000xm3. From the quality point of view, no question that this is one of the best headphone. It deliver perfect sound, and easy feature. I like the simplicity of the touchpad, responsive, and still provide button that efficient.
The problem occurred, when I couldn’t wear this amazing headphone more than 10 minutes. I feel strong air pressure inside my ear. It leave uncomfortable feeling, nausea, fatigue, even one hour after I remove this headphone. Having searching this problem, I come to the terminology of “ear drum suck”. It happened to all noise-cancelling headphones. I tried optimiser, but it doesn’t solve the issue. Some people feel this phenomena, but some don’t. It varies among people. Now, I tried to reduce the pain with using adaptive mode, which allows some noise be heard.
It is a mixed feeling, one side, I like the headphone, but the this “ear drum suck” has caused so much pain in my ear.

The headphones are every bit as good as most reviews have claimed. Outstanding sound, noise cancelling works totally. Have to fiddle to make them comfortable sometimes but I have big ears! Very pleased with the headphones and also the prompt and good service from Amazon. They were a third cheaper than their Sony recommended price, so a good bargain and excellent value for money. I have a pair of XM2’s as well and I’m not sure the XM3 battery lasts as long, but it’s okay (get a couple of evenings worth of listening between charges). One niggle is you get a ridiculously short USB plug lead which means you practically have to have the headphones hanging out of the wall when charging. The XM2 headphones came with a 15 inch lead at least. This is about 3 inches long! But it’s standard USB C lead, so replaceable.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve primarily had my listening experience be through inexpensive headphones in the past, usually none beyond the 50 mark – The Sony XM3s were my first foray into truly premium territory – And I have to say, i’m a little let down.

Now let me get this out of the way – Are these great headphones? Yes! They are extremely comfortable, offer a great amount of tunability, and have best in class noise cancelling.

However – Are these particularly standout in terms of sound quality? Not really. Sound quality wise they actually sound about equal to my Mpow H12s and H18s – Both much cheaper models.

With that in mind – Are these good value for money? Yes and no. These definitely feel sturdy and premium, and I don’t see them breaking in the future, whereas both of my Mpows have had durability issues.

With that in mind – In terms of value for money, i’d have to go with some cheaper headphones. In terms of premium and quality, it has to go to the XM3s.

I tried every kind of music, FPS/MMORPG/StoryTale games; every single condition (Fly, beach, bar, home, office).

I believe I’m giving you the best advice, Close your eyes and buy the headset, the sound quality, and overall experience is epic, it’s a headset you can have on your head the whole day without any issues.

Volume: Epic, but you need to connect through cable to get full experience, I might be missing a setting or something with the Bluetooth connection.
Quality: Just the best for under 500 quid
Light and soft as a pillow
Just works, zero connectivity between multiple devices.

    CLOSE YOUR EYES, AND BUY!

They look wonderful and feel amazing. The sound? Beautiful!
    Problems?
-I was looking for powerful a bass and this was underwhelming.
-I wish it had volume control buttons for you to make it even louder. The fact that it relies only on the volume given by your computer/phone, instead of having an independent volume control disappointed me.
-The sliding up and down for volume control is frustrating at most.

I am going to keep them, though. These were too expensive and I can forgive the lacklustre bass because they do feel and sound really great. But I am definitely buying different headphones when I get the chance.

Took delivery yesterday so can’t comment on battery life yet.
Spent many, many hours over the course of two weeks researching similar products before finally making the decision to spend a not inconsiderable sum (for a pensioner) on these cans. Well, I’m feeling very smug, totally blown away with the sound quality and the noise cancelling feature of these 1000XM3’s. My old Bose headphones had given me many years of faithful service but the ear pads fell apart (due to age rather than use) so was looking at their range ( my son has the QC35 II which he recommended) in addition to alternative manufacturers. After much deliberation I came down on the side of the Sony’s as I felt they would be more comfortable as I am slightly built and needed the ear caps to fit snuggly and not be loose. Great build quality, fantastic sound and noise cancelling is so good as to be amazing. How technology has progressed. You will NOT be disappointed…Go buy yourself a pair. Can’t comment on battery life as not had to charge since the initial charging. Enjoy.

If you’re working from home in a house with others or pets during this time, these will absolutely save your sanity!

The noise cancellation works wonders for cutting out not only noises in the background and from other rooms, but also critcally for me PC fans and hard drives. The sound quality is also very good, no complaints at all for this class.

They also use a type-c charger (huzzah!) and come with a very good travel case. They’re not cheap, but very glad I picked these up.

Just recently purchased this headphones. It is so comfortable to wear. I’ve worn them for hours and did not feel it pressing my head. It felt like I wasn’t even wearing the headphones. Miles better from my on ear headphones which hurts my ears a lot. The sound quality is superb. Noise cancelling is excellent, a really different experience. Worth buying.

Sony headphones have a good reputation for functionality and ANC and this headphone is, in my opinion, the best in functionality and noise cancelling but certainly not the best when it comes to sound quality when you hear then out of the box, you will need to tweak the eq to get a good sound, however, if deep bass is your definition of great sound quality then these will not disappoint you. Hop this helps!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersJust buy them

I’m hugely into my Music and have spent a lot of time trying out different Headphones

    Tried the Bose
    Tried the Sennheiser
Tried the Beats (just because of the hype)
    Tried the Bowers & Wilkins

I hadn’t considered these until I was recommended trying them…….

They are a different league to anything else, I mean Sony knocked this one out of the park!

We have two sets now as my wife kept stealing mine for trips instead of taking her own.

You will not regret buying these headphones

Incredibly comfortable even for long durations.

Great sound cancelling (I mean great as well), screaming baby on a flight? Nooooo problemo, pop these on and its silent night.

The sound quality is fine and they are initially very comfy but get uncomfortable after maybe 2 hours and get sweaty very quickly. But they are still the best headphones ive owned. Amazing battery and decent app.

I got these headphones to use while watching films on my iPad, listening to Audible on my iPhone and listening to music on my PC. They’re brilliant. The noise cancelling feature is superb, the package is really slick, everything is great, just one problem though, if you want to switch between bluetooth devices there is no easy intuitive way to do so. You have to physically switch off one device in order to force the headphones or use a workaround. It would be great if Sony could introduce a way of doing this via a software update or maybe for the next generation of headphones (a button or a swipe function to cycle through different devices).

Great Headphones definitely better made than the last headphones I ordered which were skullcandy crusher wireless they had a great sound but ordered two pairs and they both broke apart in a short space of time because of the poor build quality wasted 100 pound on them. So far these have been what I expect for the money, very comfortable and great sound quality though just to note the carrier case is a bit of a fiddle.

These are great headphones, there’s no denying! Unfortunately my head is too small for this particular set. Even on the smallest (tightest) adjustment they slide around on my head a bit and I get a bit of wearing fatigue due to how loose it is. Really gutting, so planning on exchanging for a pair of more compact Bose headphones.

By all means, get these headphones if you have a normal sized head!

I upgraded to the WH-1000XM3 from my previous pair of Skullcandy Crusher Wireless – a fairly serious and big jump in terms of price – I have to say it was absolutely worth it. The noise cancelling on these is superb, and works well on airplanes and trains. Occasional bumps might disrupt the noise cancelling briefly, but other than that, I’m incredibly impressed. When in loud environments, like an open office, or a crowded coffee shop, these can really help shut the world up and ease your anxiety, helping you to focus on yourself and what you need to get done.

The sound quality is surprisingly good for a wireless pair, mostly when ANC is on. The bass comes through nice and deep, without muddying the mids or highs. When connected to a phone, the Sony Headphones app also offers plenty of equaliser options and a well engineered bass boost feature, which hardly distorts the sound even at its maximum setting.

In terms of battery life – expect to charge these once a week if you use them every day for about 3-4 hours, or once every 2 weeks if you use them less frequently. Charging is fast, and I love that I can use the same Type-C cable which I already use for my phone and laptop.

Lastly the colour – initially I thought I wouldn’t like the somewhat aged-looking gray, but once you get these you’ll learn to love them. They definitely stand out more compared to the black model, and the matching case and 3.5mm cable are a nice addition.

Overall – if you’ve been thinking of getting these for a while (like I was) stop hesitating and get them now. Once you pick up a high quality pair of headphones you just won’t be able to go back. (That is, unless you’re waiting for the WH-1000XM4!)

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Users– Amazing sound quality
    – Great battery life and charging speed (I’m delighted by this)
    – Low battery notification

    CONS

    – I was expecting the noise cancellation to be active. It is not. All that is cancelled are the white noises (noises that follow patterns). Voices aren’t cancelled so well, though. Despite all the advertisement, I can easily have a conversation if no music is playing and the noise cancelling is active.
    – uncomfortable. It hurts where the headphones rest on my head. I have to change their position every 0.5 /1 h.
    – maximum volume notification is rather annoying (once I reach max vol, it stops playing for a good 2/3 seconds and then beeps twice as a warning that such limit was reached).
    – the ears bend in the opposite direction when putting them on the table
    – the touch thing is neat in the beginning but I don’t really use it. More often than not I use it without wanting (if the headphones are around my neck, it’s really easy to touch it with my chin and the play button is triggered)

I wanted a pair of wireless headphones with audiophile sound quality, a good microphone and great ANC. The only headphone that excelled in all three categories in all the reviews were these! Having received them, I can say just wow! Great sound! ANC is fantastic and I look forward to using them whilst travelling by air (they adapt to the cabin pressure to maintain good sound). The app and setting them up was straightforward and they come with a plethora of handy features and options, especially the EQ! Bass is clear and soundstage surprisingly good. The synth drums in Eminem’s “You Gon’ Learn” are crystal clear and punchy as they travel across the soundstage. All the songs sound good through them. I have yet to do a side-by-side comparison with my Grados.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThese are the nuts! Honestly amazing. Sound is superb and its great that I now have an excuse not to hear my boyfriend speaking. But seriously, on the noise cancelling mode you really can’t hear anything, but you can also adjust the settings (all by a click of a button) to ensure that you can hear background noise such as traffic etc. Quick charge and brilliant app you can download to control how you want them to work. I feel like I am sat in a concert. An ad came on the other day (helicopter noise) and it freaked me out as I genuinely thought there was a helicopter coming towards me haha. So yes, top marks.

Probably the best value for money purchase I have made for a long time.
These earphones are simply amazing in all respects.
Wonderfully balanced, vibrant sound and enough base without it being overpowering.
Add to that the best noise cancelling system that I’ve experienced and a 30 hour battery life and things can’t get better. Well actually they can. If you want to fine tune the Sony App is brilliant.
I know this might sound as if I work for Sony. I really don’t! Sony are certainly not my favourite brand.
Sometimes companies produce something that really hits the mark and this is right up there with the best. I feel that these headphones set the standard at any price. Sometimes its necessary to spend a great deal to get the best: a Linn turntable for example. Well not for these and I did kinda try to.
    Yes. Definitely recommend.
    Service brilliant too.
Ordered yesterday evening and they arrived mid morning today.

Had these for a while now, so they’ve been used quite a bit.

The case is good quality and holds the cables for charging and the cord if you want to make them corded.

They are incredibly comfortable to wear if you are a glasses wearer, they don’t dig in and make the arms hurt.

The quality of sound is very good on a range of music, I’m by no means an expert on headphones, but for me these are good for the eclectic mix of genres I listen to.

The settings on the earpieces to increase/decrease the volume as well as skip/rewind are easy to use.

Pairing to Bluetooth requires an app, but once installed is easy to pair. The charge time isn’t bad and battery life lasts an age.

Only problem I have is if I attach the cord to the headphones and phone they don’t work, I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if they actually don’t work. But as I bought them for Bluetooth use and that works I’m not too bothered.

    Noise cancelling,
    Battery life and
Fitting on the ears without pain
    Cons:

I have tried Bose 700, I have tried the over rated Nuraphones and wasn’t blown away , I saw that the Sony 1000mx3 were No1, I always assumed Bose should be No1, they were not, the Sony 1000mx3 really are the best sounding headphones available, noise cancellation and sound quality are through the roof, I listen to Bob Marley and love every detail of the album , I’m so fussy and I’m always wanting the best , the voice calls are not great .. sort it sony, but NC, battery life and sound quality are 100%, look for the deals, you can get for 240, still expensive but you’ll love them , no I wasn’t paid to review , these deserve it .

I bought these to avoid spending hundreds and thousands on hifi… which I’ve done earlier in my life. So these needed to be high quality and superb sound quality ultimately. I’ve also upgraded my online music source from Spotify to Tidal, which allows me to play much higher quality source material and this in itself has made a huge impact on all the devices I listen through. These are comfortable, the app works well, and o use them to listen from both my iPhone and my laptop without issue. Very, very happy with the purchase. After reading other reviews rating these against the similarly priced Bose phones I believe I chose well and have no regrets at all.
