Great headphone but Not the best sound Quality
Sony headphones have a good reputation for functionality and ANC and this headphone is, in my opinion, the best in functionality and noise cancelling but certainly not the best when it comes to sound quality when you hear then out of the box, you will need to tweak the eq to get a good sound, however, if deep bass is your definition of great sound quality then these will not disappoint you. Hop this helps!

Amazing noise cancelling
The sound quality is fine and they are initially very comfy but get uncomfortable after maybe 2 hours and get sweaty very quickly. But they are still the best headphones ive owned. Amazing battery and decent app.
Great headphones just one problem....multiple devices
I got these headphones to use while watching films on my iPad, listening to Audible on my iPhone and listening to music on my PC. They’re brilliant. The noise cancelling feature is superb, the package is really slick, everything is great, just one problem though, if you want to switch between bluetooth devices there is no easy intuitive way to do so. You have to physically switch off one device in order to force the headphones or use a workaround. It would be great if Sony could introduce a way of doing this via a software update or maybe for the next generation of headphones (a button or a swipe function to cycle through different devices).

Undoubtedly the bes
I upgraded to the WH-1000XM3 from my previous pair of Skullcandy Crusher Wireless – a fairly serious and big jump in terms of price – I have to say it was absolutely worth it. The noise cancelling on these is superb, and works well on airplanes and trains. Occasional bumps might disrupt the noise cancelling briefly, but other than that, I’m incredibly impressed. When in loud environments, like an open office, or a crowded coffee shop, these can really help shut the world up and ease your anxiety, helping you to focus on yourself and what you need to get done.
The sound quality is surprisingly good for a wireless pair, mostly when ANC is on. The bass comes through nice and deep, without muddying the mids or highs. When connected to a phone, the Sony Headphones app also offers plenty of equaliser options and a well engineered bass boost feature, which hardly distorts the sound even at its maximum setting.
In terms of battery life – expect to charge these once a week if you use them every day for about 3-4 hours, or once every 2 weeks if you use them less frequently. Charging is fast, and I love that I can use the same Type-C cable which I already use for my phone and laptop.
Lastly the colour – initially I thought I wouldn’t like the somewhat aged-looking gray, but once you get these you’ll learn to love them. They definitely stand out more compared to the black model, and the matching case and 3.5mm cable are a nice addition.
Overall – if you’ve been thinking of getting these for a while (like I was) stop hesitating and get them now. Once you pick up a high quality pair of headphones you just won’t be able to go back. (That is, unless you’re waiting for the WH-1000XM4!)

Premium Features and sound
I wanted a pair of wireless headphones with audiophile sound quality, a good microphone and great ANC. The only headphone that excelled in all three categories in all the reviews were these! Having received them, I can say just wow! Great sound! ANC is fantastic and I look forward to using them whilst travelling by air (they adapt to the cabin pressure to maintain good sound). The app and setting them up was straightforward and they come with a plethora of handy features and options, especially the EQ! Bass is clear and soundstage surprisingly good. The synth drums in Eminem’s “You Gon’ Learn” are crystal clear and punchy as they travel across the soundstage. All the songs sound good through them. I have yet to do a side-by-side comparison with my Grados.

The case is good quality and holds the cables for charging and the cord if you want to make them corded.
They are incredibly comfortable to wear if you are a glasses wearer, they don’t dig in and make the arms hurt.
The quality of sound is very good on a range of music, I’m by no means an expert on headphones, but for me these are good for the eclectic mix of genres I listen to.
The settings on the earpieces to increase/decrease the volume as well as skip/rewind are easy to use.
Pairing to Bluetooth requires an app, but once installed is easy to pair. The charge time isn’t bad and battery life lasts an age.
Only problem I have is if I attach the cord to the headphones and phone they don’t work, I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if they actually don’t work. But as I bought them for Bluetooth use and that works I’m not too bothered.

I get a full 3-4 days of usage with noise cancelling enabled and 4 hours commuting. I’m not even an amateur sound enthusiast but I can say I’ve not heard better with plenty of other headphones wired or not, great connectivity and affordability provided with Amazon 0% APR. Consider me a very happy customer with the highest recommendation.

Does exactly what it should
Best set of headphones I’ve ever had and the noise cancelling is quite brilliant. Even with the TV on full blast (my partner is hard of hearing) you can listen comfortably to the quietest passages of music. Top marks.

Eerily effective
I have recently used the headphones on long haul flights. As some might realised, planes are awfully loud. This headphones worked wonders as it effectively dampens the noise even when I am not playing anything. Even in the busy streets of Manila it just cuts the noise.

These headphones are everything I was hoping for…and some more! Sound quality is excellent, they’re supremely comfortable to wear and the noise cancelling is almost complete silence. Bluetooth works really well and there’s a wired connection to my HiFi. I also like the neat carrying case…and the headphones look good too.

These are amazing! I use them at the office because everyone tends to stand around me talking and distracting me from work. I need quietness to focus. These give me exactly that. They also are hands-free when you speak on the phone. The design is also so pretty. I’m really happy I got them. They’re pricy, but worth it.

I was amazed when I put it on first time seems like I was totally disconnected from outside world. Such awesome noise cancellation Sony has. It looks premium and have a very lasting battery backup. Only thing I didn’t like that its not a multi point connection. Every time you want to switch to other device, you have to connect it manually.

Best headphones in the world
Some of the best headphones you can buy in the world right now. Noise cancelling options are superior. The option to change it to off and an ambient sound is also very good. Definitely worth the money if you travel a lot like I do. The headphones make a huge difference when on transport crafts which can block out sounds.
Vastly improved over previous model
I own the xm2 and gave the xm3 to someone as a present. Safe to say I’m a bit jealous. The xm3 improves massively on the main problems of the xm2, and even improves on features that were already class leading.
My biggest gripe with the older version was the resonance in the lows and low miss, causing the sound quality to be quite poor in those ranges. They also lacked energy. Looks are improved, with better padding and a more current look (the older model looked a bit weird on the head)
Responsiveness of the touchpad is improved.
Basically it’s just better headphones. Highly recommended!
Vastly improved over previous model
I own the xm2 and gave the xm3 to someone as a present. Safe to say I’m a bit jealous. The xm3 improves massively on the main problems of the xm2, and even improves on features that were already class leading.
My biggest gripe with the older version was the resonance in the lows and low miss, causing the sound quality to be quite poor in those ranges. They also lacked energy. Well worth every penny
Wow the headphones are truly the best headphones I’ve ever purchased. The base is amazing and the high and lows are on point. You can download the app for a full customizable feel and boy is it worth it. The build quality is solid and durable and comfortable for long time use. I’m being honest here as I’ve spent a lot of money on these. You will not be disappointed in the slightest.

Liked the product a lot. It was exactly how it was mentioned in the description. The sound quality is really good. Wouldn’t be able to make a difference unless you’re an audiophile. Great product, do not regret buying.

I used these on a commute to central London to filter out train noise and they were remarkably good. I could see people talking but not hear them. Lifting the cup from my head revealed the deluge of noise that was being filtered out. They are also really comfortable and from now on any travelling listening will be with these. There is much functionality here I have not exploited. My only criticism is the start-up app, which has an essentially blank screen with a start button at the bottom, but this cannot be reached on my Galaxy view, with pops up a system tray over it, so it is impossible to start the app. Put the button in the middle of the empty screen and it would be fine.

Quality headphones...my son wears them 24/7.
My son has these headphones on his ears 24/7….. hes very happy with these headphones so obviously getting my moneys worth… i thought omg they were expensive!!!!! …but of course buying these my son has QUALITY….cheap headphones damage your hearing….these of course are not damaging my sons heating as like i have already said he wears them 24/7 ….there is also many functions on these geadphones that are not available on others…if you need a good quality set of headphones then buy these…you wont regret it …i am sure my son will get many tears of enjoyment from these….so would you if you huy them ..thank you seller..

Update: I’ve had these for over a year now and wanted to update my review. I use my headphones almost daily – doing housework, walking, and even running. I know they say they aren’t sweatproof, but I have done many 5k and a few 10k runs with them with no problems at all. I would NOT ride a bike with them, they are amazing at noise cancellation, and you need to hear what is going on around you when cycling.
They are also awesome for keeping your ears warm in the cold! I have also been caught out in the rain with them, and although I took them off, they did get quite wet and survived it.
Last month I had an issue with them breaking into very loud static periodically, I would turn them off and on and that would usually take care of the problem, but I was worried I had worn them to death – I called Sony customer service, and they checked a few things through the app and had me do a reset – no more problem. This was well after any warranty – I was really impressed with the service. After the reset – tap to pause is working perfectly again. I still highly recommend them!!

I thought the noise cancelling was a gimmick but I was totally wrong and it is amazing! I love these headphones as they look smart and have great sound quality. But the main reason I love them is because it puts me in my own wonder world during my commute, eliminating all those pesky commuters that feel the need to tell people their life stories on the commute to work.

The audio cable is so poorly made it bent easily in an aircraft seat probably when I was standing up. This component is not designed an manufacture to be sufficiently robust to survive the environment it will be used in. This problem is not confined to Sony and I have heard of Bose and other manufacturers headphones having exactly the same problem. Why build headphone with superb sound quality and noise cancellation, then cut costs by including flimsy parts tarnishing Sony’s reputation.
Best in Class
As a massive audiophile, these headphones are the best on the market in their price range.
Slightly gritty at high volumes but a play with the equaliser levels sorted that right out. Perfect noise cancelling and the hands free features are excellent. There is also a very handy mute feature to mute your music and noise cancelling so you can interact with people without having to remove the headphones.

I had to return the first pair of these as the BT kept dropping out (tired on several devices) second set are spot on. I am a big music fan and like sound to be as good as it can babe within my budget. Lets face it, these are not cheap and I can’t justify the spend by saying I am a frequent air traveller because I am not. My aim was to get the best ANC headphones combined with the best sound quality, these are to be used in the (noisy) office, train, out and about and at home when the kids are watching one of their movies.
Noise Cancelling – Wow, as soon as they are switched on, the ANC kicks in and pretty much puts you in a world of your own, its freaky but comfortable, no weird feelings of pressure change, they just work. Great
Sound Quality – Superb, there are a few shared playlists on most streaming services there people have shared their ‘Headphones Testing Playlists’ definitely worth a listen when testing new headphones and these playlists usually contain some tracks designed for headphones and to hear them on a good set is quite amazing. These do not disappoint.
Comfort – Lightweight, no stress on my head (and I wear glasses) and for me, the most comfortable headphones I have ever used (and I have gone through many, many sets over the years)

I guess they were right! Great headphones – noise cancelling is brilliant – put them on in a crowded noisy room, switch on and the room goes quiet! Ok, you can just about hear the environment at a greatly reduced level but I am extremely pleased with this product.

These are fabulous headphones . The noise cancelling is excellent, you can download an app and the headphones can even tell if your walking or on bus or train and will adapt.
I would buy these again in a heartbeat.
The only thing I’d like to see is some bright colours like Beats.

I love them ! The only slight disappointment was that I could still hear the tv, but maybe our tv was too loud.

Good value but looking for an upgrade

Noise cancellation is first class; ask the wife. Sound is great and completely configurable in the app. Finally, battery life. It amazes me just how long these things last. Worth every penny.
The cans for hi res
Superb noise cancelling cans, great expansive sound stage and great bass. Music is very detailed and dynamic especially when using amazon music HD. These cans excel when playing hi res music.

I’m not someone who buys expensive headphones usually and these where definitely a bit of an impulse purchase, but they are really great. Very immersive sound. Comfy etc. Only draw back is the cost, as you don’t really want to sweat in gym with them on or get caught in heavy rain as you don’t want to wreck such an expensive item. But these are amazing for the commute or any kind of travel

Very happy with the product, I previously had Dr Dre’s but after two pairs breaking on me after a couple of years of use I decided to change brand. I find the Sonys extremely comfortable and the noise cancelling is very good, the smart technology amazes me when it knows the differents between inside and outside. The sound quality is still there. The sound cancelling works very well.
They block out/ nullify all unwanted noise from neighbors and surroundings etc.
The app is good for fine tuning.
Music quality and bluetooth connectivity are excellent.

Bought these after agonising over different brands such as Bose and even the Surface headphones that were rated best by the Which? website. 270 is a lot to spend on headphones but I was willing to spend the money if they truly lived up to what I wanted i.e. excellent noise cancelling, excellent sound quality and really comfortable to wear. Also good battery life was important. After reading and watching various reviews I decided to go for these ones. I have to say I’ve been blown away – noise cancelling is astonishing on these headphones – ambient noise virtually disappears and with music playing you don’t hear a thing around you. I haven’t tried these on a plane yet but I expect them to be very effective having owned previous cheaper models of Sony NC headphones which have worked well. These are so comfortable to wear, my ears usually get a bit itchy and hot with headphones but haven’t found this at all with these. The sound quality is superb and volume goes very loud. Definitely need the companion app with these headphones as you can further adjust settings including the EQ which means you can have the bass turned up – oh my god the bass is so good!
All in all I have no regrets and glad I chose Sony over Bose and Surface.
