Super Blu-Ray set. Far better then I thought is was going to be. To bad there did not have the isolated music track on The City on The Edge of Forever. The extras make this set worth having for any Star Trek collector like myself. Yes I have the whole series on Blu-Ray, but having isolated music tracks and new audio commentaries makes this great. As far as the packaging goes it is hands down awesome looking. It has a very nice and heavier outer slipcover with the Blu-Rays in the own box inside it. And over the whole thing is a clear sleeve to protect the collection, nice job on that for sure. Short note, you may like to keep out the Blu-Ray case to keep the outer sleeve in good condition.
Once more and final thoughts on this set. Looks and sounds great, for any collector of Star Trek or just someone who watch’s once in awhile. Buy it you will not be disappointed trust me.
The extras are nice; video quality enhancements are superbly done.
Rather than present all the extra footage, this blu ray simply has great documentaries about it and presents a small portion of it as supplements to the 12 episodes presented.
They should just release all the extra footage.
But these 50+ year episodes look stunning on blu ray!
Product arrived as expected with no problems.
I would order again from this seller.
Star Trek fan from the beginning. We grew up together. The extras are a joy. And Amazon got it here so well.
I expected more never before seen footage and not 4 star trek tos on each disk although it is fun to watch I am enjoying i
Star Trek heaven special features are great A must have
If you are expecting a raw dump of reels of outtake footage, this set is not for you. The documentaries are more than informative. They put in context the outtake footage shown. Important historical notes are included, some of which were only hearsay until this set came out, displaying the evidence for all to see. The interviews are fascinating, nostalgic and revelatory. Some of the outtakes are astonishing, including evidence that the infamous scripted coda for “Who Mourns For Adonais” was actually filmed.
There are hints that there is yet more footage to be released, and therein lay my only want, that this set had contained more found footage. In this I will have to trust the editors/curators.
The episodes chosen for this set are available with both original and remastered effects, but included are special features not seen on the Original Series’ Blu-Ray first release: audio commentaries on three episodes, as well as isolated music scores on ten of them. Those features make this set nearly worth the purchase without the Vault material.
Are you an Original Series Star Trek fan, who loves to learn about what went on behind the scenes? Don’t hesitate. Get this set!
If you have the Full Series blu ray this feels like a double dip, the extras are OK but somewhat lack luster. But if you just want some Greatest hits type Blu ray It’s definitely great quality and a good mix of Classic TOS episodes.
Una chicca per veri treker ma secondo me buono per chi vuole conoscere l’inizi di questo mondo ottima la scelta dei 12 episodio
May 2017
Just recieved my Roddenbury Vault box set as I write this review Im in tears of joy as for the high quality and care that was put into this reboot idea of the original series
Im hoping that Paramount contnues with this high quality reboot for all 3 seasons of the originals and improves on the same idea for
next generation Deep space 9 star trek voyager
sound and picture is like a theatre screen blu ray quality verry impressed
hope to see more box sets reboots in same high quality keep it coming paramount im using a blue ray LG dvd player looks fantastic on my Samsung 42 inch
For those of us who are fans of the original series, who grew up watching it, finding a treasure chest like this is truly amazing. Imagine watching episodes you know so well but now you are able to view scenes shot from a different Angles, and sometimes even different dialogue. And if you’re a fan of the Enterprise presented here for the first time are beautiful behind the scenes blue screen tracking shots of the 11 foot model. Also included are re mastered fan favorite episodes. A must for fans, highly recommended.
People seem to be reviewing this as if it was something it isn’t. It is not a box set of the series. That exists already. It is not a special edition, or directors cut with new footage edited in. It is simply a “best of” kind of set with a few of the better known episodes, great for a casual fan that wants a few episodes, but don’t need or want the whole series. Die hard Trek fans (that often seem impossible to please) get annoyed they have to buy episodes they already own to get the special features. That is silly. If they sold just the extra footage, almost no one would buy it. It makes total sense to do it this way.
Bottom line, it’s great for a causal fan that wants a few of the better episodes, or to introduce someone to the show, It’s great for a Trekkie like me that wants to see raw footage unavailable before.
I’m happy with my order it got here in good condition and I enjoy watching Star Trek.
Excellent collection! Hope they release another set for the Third season.
– Very pleasantly surprised the language options included German! Nice to finally see them on an American TV/Blu-Ray without a region restriction problem.
– The documentaries are fantastic for those of us who enjoyed TOS during the original seasons’ airings on network TV.
– I was hoping the episodes would have had an option to see episodes with the previously cut scenes inserted where they would have been before editing.
Overall, very pleased.
And you’ll want more.
My husband was very happy with his Star Trek collection on DVD. But when he saw this, he had to open it right away! Scenes are great, nice interviews, lots of new things never seen before. He was thrilled! A must have for all Star Trek enthusiasts.
I gave it to my husband for Christmas and it was exactly what he wanted. A perfect addition to his Trek collection!
And if you are hard-pressed getting the complete BR set of TOS, this is an excellent collection of greatest hits.
arrivato nei tempi previsti questo articolo non pu mancare agli appassionati della pi famosa saga di fantascienza di tutti ti tempi…molti materiali tolti dai montaggi e ottimi contenuti. consigliato solo per appassionati
I have to disagree with the reviewers who have found fault with the material presented. The complaint that they should be presented in a higher quality is rather picayune considering that the scenes were in film canisters for almost 50 years and were never aired. We can’t expect them to be in a digital, high quality print. However, if you are mainly interested in the content, I don’t think you’ll mind.
If you’re truly a fan of the franchise, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy today.
I enjoyed it for what it is, not getting caught up in the make believe world of what it could have been….old clips of bloopers and cut scenes that were meant to be thrown away 50 years ago surrounded with interviews from people who help shape Star Trek. Fun stuff and interesting if your are a fan of the show, especially those old enough to remember the old 8mm bootlegged blooper reels 🙂
Clarifies some episodes better with the deleted scenes revealed. My only caveat is they could not find it in their heart to include the original bloopers and NBC promos of the 1966-69 seasons. Do not know what the holdup is on that front.
Truly the icing on the cake was the FX work on the 11 foot Enterprise, filmed with a finer grain and slower film, which preserved the color and detail for FX work. Truly awesome to see effects filmed of her, but never used in the series production run.
True snapshot of the amalgamated talent which brought Star Trek to its place in TV history. Gene Roddenberry’s vision and guidance, Gene Coon and other’s hand in crafting our Trekdom for 50 years! I could not be anymore proud to of loved her since 1966.
The trims and deleted scenes, along with the unused (and un-composited) miniature shots are worth the price of the set on their own. The deleted scene from “City on the Edge of Forever” is priceless.
Yep, the addition of the episodes might be considered “padding,” but if this is the only Bluray you get, the context of the conversation and scenes/trims are provided. To me that simply had to be done, and it is nice to be able to see the features and then have the episodes right at hand.
Well done. A great addition of Star Trek nuggets I thought I’d never see. It’s like ordering some trims from Lincoln Enterprises (for those of us who did and couldn’t wait to see what we got) and finding the package contained whole reels of film.
