Never knew a toaster could be this good.
The title seems a bit much, and I’m used to spending only a couple of quid on a toaster but this is worth the extra expense. Honestly.
A whole slice fits in due to the deep chassis – no having to turn bread mid toast. I’ve tried Roberts mega toastie bread in here (silly thick) and no problem. Also, with the dial set properly (I have mine a click or two above three), it does it the same way every time. The only criticism is the numbers are a little hard to read but that’s minor compared to the fact it’s the best toaster I’ve ever had. And it looks awesome too. It’s made toast a thing again.
Yes it’s a funcky design, yes, it makes great toast probably the best I’ve had before but and I’m sorry that there’s a but. The controls for adjusting the toasting time have not been given much thought on such an expensive toaster, you can barely see the numbers for controling the timer, the numbers on the dial are virtually invisable having to tilt the toaster to get it the right light to actually see the numbers is a real pain, fine if you only ever do toast.
Truly Funky toaster and excellent produc
I bought this because I felt the Smeg Toaster and Kettle were a little over priced but still wanted something Retro and funky and quirky and usual for my new home and it fits right in. My mum came and said she loved it and wanted to buy one. Definitely worth the money and looks good in the kitchen the bonus is it works well too.
I’m delighted with this toaster. The toasts are done to perfection and most importantly it takes the large Warburton slices and teacakes which my previous toaster had problems with. Highly recommended.
Love the look of this but more importantly slices of bread fit in it completely! Yes it’s quite big but only in height, no longer than my old toaster. I don’t care because at least I don’t have to keep turning bread round to get it evenly toasted!
As the name of the company is saying, funky and chunky piece here, presented quite fine and nice.
It’s designed to match only some designs, not in every kitchen will match the interior and definitely won’t fit in any kitchen. I’m alright about it but the thing is the toaster itself is like big. It’s really chunky and even though it’s for 4 slices, it could be much more compact.
Apart from that, it’s looking nice, not too easy to clean as it’s really big.
Value for money – depends, I’d say yes because when you’re really looking for some appliances to match the design of the kitchen and see this one, won’t look expensive because it’s somehow special IMHO, but compared to other toasters, may seem a bit overpriced.
Love my new toaster. I had problems looking for one that fit a whole slice of bread in without part of it sticking out the top but this fits it all in!
I think it’s a tad expensive for a toaster especially as it doesn’t have a one side only option which my cheaper toaster had so is pretty basic from that point of view but overall it does a good job.
This is really a rather good toaster. It is not obvious but you are supposed to put the bread in portrait style rather than landscape i.e. with the longest dimension of the slice vertical rather than horizontal. That is why the toaster is so tall. Once you realise this, you find the slice goes in easily and fits properly – by contrast with many toasters where the slice doesn’t quite fit and has to be shoved down afterwards. Like it.
It is well made, qualitative, and have a beautiful design!
Great value for money!
I love it because it is big enough, easy to clean and makes the toast quickly.
Highly recommend it!
Stunning looking toaster and the extra deep toasting area easily fits full size slices of bread . Easy to use and clean . It’s a real head Turner of a toaster and had been much admired
This toaster really stands true to its brand it really is a funky looking appliance. Perfect for any kitchen the price is a little on the high side for a toaster but it’s an amazing quality so I believe it will last a while. It’s not a boring old appliance it looks and works amazing well. I had a four slice toaster that was too big and bulky and since getting this my counter tops look great. I would highly recommend this as its a great appliance to have I also went out of my way and grabbed the matching kettle, my kitchen worktop looks amazing I’m really glad with the cream colour as it matches my cupboards. Would recommend this for a house warming present as it’s just amazing and the best thing is it’s not casually available which makes it valuable!
At first, I was wary of this Funky Appliance Company Funky Toaster (too many ‘funkys’?) because it could have just turned out to be a run-of-the-mill toaster in a funky (there it goes again) shell but it’s much better than that and it’s actually a really good toaster in a funky (that’s the last one) shell. It’s pearl coloured too, which adds further funkiness to the overall level of funk (ok, I lied).
It’s true that the bulbous retro shape takes up more room on the counter than it might need to but this isn’t a toaster meant to disappear into a corner anyway. The levers and buttons have been similarly funkified but they’re all solid-feeling and work well, nothing feels too cheap and plastic-y despite the gimmicky design. The browning knobs which set the level of toasting have a nice positive-feeling micro-clicking action and the settings range from pale-and-interesting to baguette-out-of-hell charcoal so everyone can get their toast the way they like it. It’s reasonably fast to toast too and you get quite an even brown though it’s more centre-focussed than many toasters, meaning you don’t get burnt edges and a white middle and it’s more likely to be the other way round. It takes slightly taller-than average slices standing upright too, which is handy for home bakers, although some high-rise loaves might still need a bit of careful decapitation.
The overall construction is good and although it might look a bit hollow and gimmicky in photo’s it doesn’t really feel it, there’s a bit of weight and substance to it. The upper section of the main body is made from metal with a Bakelite-like paint finish, while the lower section is plastic. I’m in two minds about the Cream colour I got, it’s got a cool retro look that will suit a lot of kitchens but the others look pretty cool too, maybe next time. Best of all it’s not just a funky face, it’s a really good toaster too.
Cool but costy
90 for a toaster puts you into 2 camps – more money than sense, pretentious.
I’m neither as I would not pay more than 30 for a toaster.
However this is a stunning one
It’s somewhat of a feature piece in any kitchen and really stands out on the breakfast area.
The toast cooks excellently and my only negative is that it doesn’t have an ability for long things such a pita bread
If you have 90 to spend on a toaster buy it.
If you don’t then look elsewhere as I could never recommend 90 to cook bread
When we received this toaster we were surprised at how big it is, a four slice toaster is obviously big, but this one is quite large in comparison, we chose the colour cream, and in that colour its shape resembles a space helmet, and as we unboxed it the quote “One Small Step For Man” sprang to mind. In all honesty, we had never heard of The Funky Appliance Company before, and with the design of this toaster, it’s definitely an appropriate brand name. The toaster is now somewhat of a centrepiece in our kitchen, it really is eye catching (but not in an obtrusive way), and it’s almost got what I guess you would call ‘that wow factor’.
89.99 is pretty expensive for a toaster, but in our opinion, this one is quite possibly worth the asking price, and it’s not just its visual splendour, it’s absolutely great at making toast too (it would be an expensive ornament if it didn’t make great toast). There’s really no need to repeat what the product description states, because the toaster performs perfectly with every described feature, and we would highly recommend it, especially if you are looking for something a little different to the norm.
This is a quite big but really cute four slice toaster. As you can see in my photos it’s almost as big as our kitchen robot mixer but it looks really nice and blends well with the other appliances.
I like that the removable crumbs trays are placed in the front so it is easier to remove and clean them than it was on our old two slice toaster as they were placed in the back.
It heats up really fast but it takes the time to toast the bread so it is well done inside as well.
Quite expensive in my opinion (89.99) at the time of reviewing but it is well made, looks nice and it’s easy to clean so I believe that it’s worth the price if you afford it.
Looks great - is quite big
I have been after a toaster for a while and really loved the look of this one – toasters are usually such dull things! This is such a cool looking addition to the kitchen worktop – the smooth curves make it easy to clean and it looks modern and retro at the same time – quite the feat!!
It does a great job of toasting, perfectly controllable and nothing burnt so far. It is easy to use, but one word of warning – it isn’t compact, it is fairly chunky!
Really pleased with this – it really looks nice and does what I wanted with ease and style.
This toaster is quite big and bulbous but it’s cute with a retro charm. You can toast 4 slices of bread or crumpets or bagels are you would any toaster. The control knows are on the front and make a satisfying click as you rotate them. The crumb trays are also at the front. You can wind in the cable underneath to keep it in place. It’s a very nice toaster. It toasts well, you can also defrost if you need to but I never use that function on any toaster.
We always buy four slice toasters because we cant live without it. Whether its toast with butter or beans on toast, we love our toaster!
This one is big but it looks great. So stylish. It has cancel, reheat and defrost functions and crumb trays. Either side can be used separately so if one of you likes your toast light and the other cremated then that’s not a problem!
Body is made from stainless steel and it certainly feels very robust. Just love it and highly recommend if you want to add a bit of funky style to your kitchen.
Good large size toaster.
This is perfect for our family for 4 as we all eat toast in the morning.
The toaster is for 4 slices at once so we can all have one before making more.
Nice design toaster from a good brand.
Pretty different kind of design
The toasts comes out tanned just the way I like it.
Funky?
A strange shape but appealing too. Because of it’s shape, it’s easy to wipe over to keep clean. According to the enclosed booklet, heat settings 1 for light, 2-3 for medium and 4-5 for well done and these are right – I used 3 and my toast was done a (medium) treat.
My only complaint is that it’s very slow to cook, but apart from that, I like it.
But be aware it is quite big on account of it’s shape however, it’s not particularly wide so it’s depth is offset by that factor. Most 4 slice toasters are big and I don’t think this is excessively so.
Fabulous. That’s probably the best superlative I can use for this toaster. I love the quirky design, and the cream/chrome combo is sublime. Adjusting the temperature is as simple as turning a knob. Cleaning it is also simple and hassle free. I love it and I would recommend it to anyone.
