I love this game. It’s got the companion system of the Mass Effect games coupled with a Fallout 4 vibe. There’s a ship’s computer that must have been inspired by GLaDOS (from the Portal series) and the soundtrack has hints of loads of games depending on what place you happen to be. There’s plenty of dry humour too, often levelled at corporate power and greed. It’s not a massively long game but, if you liked the Mass Effect series or any of the Fallout games, you’re likely to like this, especially for the price.

Fun game. There is a ton of dialogue so if that’s not your thing I’d say watch out for this one.

Liked the game but was a little disappointed about how short it was. Seems to have multiple endings which will get me playing it again, cause the gameplay was good. And you definitely can feel its made from the guys who made new Vegas

I purchased this to fill a gap between Borderlands 3 and Assassins Creed Valhalla. It’s quite addictive.

It felt good to play in a space age version of Fallout New Vegas. I usually don’t buy a game straight away until there is GOTY edition but I couldn’t resist. Not purchased the expansion yet but I will at some point.

The Outer Worlds, is amazing. All the different areas of the game are unique and hold unique enemies within them. For Obsidian’s first standalone game without the help of Bethesda they have absolutely nailed it, the amount of options and missions/quests you have allows for a varied story as well as high replay value.

The story, albeit a short one (the whole game is around 25-30 hrs if you complete everything) is full of character depth and choices, making you get attached to these characters, which makes the choices you make even more impactful. Along with which areas you put your skill points in this can become quite enjoyable – there was a moment where I managed to ‘persuade’ a boss to not fight me and instead just watch as I looted everything.

These days, most RPGs (Role Playing Game) are incredible buggy and are always laggy, The Outer Worlds is nothing like this, it keeps up the frame rate, no glitches or bugs and no freezing – I played this on the Original Xbox One for reference, I can imagine its the same for all the other consoles. Although I already feel sorry for original PS4 users with that fan noise – I feel your pain.

Lastly, this is the most fun I’ve had playing a proper RPG (character creation and extensive customisation) since my first playthrough of Skyrim back in 2012. Think of this game like a cross between Fallout, Borderlands and Skyrim. On a final note, if you enjoyed playing Fallout: New Vegas, you’ll love this.

Bethesda need to watch out, Obsidian may over take them one day.

Around 10-15 hours in. So far so enjoyable. Like a Fallout spin off. Combat is fine and there’s lots of dialogue (if you go that route). The graphics aren’t top end but that doesn’t matter if you enjoy RPGs made by Obsidian. I’ll come back for a final score
once I finish the game. So I’ve finished the game and bumped it up to 4 stars. The freedom to play this game in any way you want is something missing from other similar RPGs. You can plain kill everything or nothing should you wish. I landed in the middle. Going back through it on hardest difficulty to see if I still enjoy it.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI got this for my husband for Christmas and he had played it through before New Years because we just couldn’t stop playing. It’s so good! I’ll play through it on my own at some point for all my own interactions, but I loved watching him play through. Player choice feels real, and the individual character story lines with the people you pick up are wonderful. The writing is great – so much memorable dialog and story experiences. There’s humor, drama, action, intrigue, couldn’t ask for more. Best solo gaming experience that I’ve seen in a while.

And ZERO BUGS!!! I can’t tell you how many EA and Bethesda experiences I’ve had in recent memory that were just riddled with bugs and issues that pull you out of the immersion. There were NONE in this game. Obsidian clearly did their job and created a beautiful (both graphics and sound, really), fully fleshed out game, and made sure it was perfect before making me pay $60.

Due to those other bad experiences, it’s rare for me to shell out full price for a game anymore. But Obsidian just guaranteed that I will buy their titles brand new if they can keep up this professionalism.

This review is from the Xbox One version but I don’t doubt the quality of the other editions.

Great game. It doesn’t play anything like fallout (I think that’s a good thing) . It does however, have some of its quirky humour from Fallout new Vegas. I cant wait for an expansion.

For any fallout fan this game is a must. This is the route bethesda should of gone with Fallout 76.

This game plays and feels like any other bethesda game however it is bought to us by obsidian who made fallout new vegas.

The gameplay is fun very responsive Id argue a slight improvement on fallout 4.
There are several ways to tackle missions. Stealth,Guns blazing,Useing disguies etc plenty of variaty.

The story is pretty decent although a bit short you feel like you just get going then its the end. However they have announced there will be story dlc realesed later this year.

There are consequences to your choices and actions within the game which gives it a lot of replay value.

Graphically and visualy the game is impressive.

Overall the outerworlds is a great fun game to play and fills the void for fans of games such as skyrim and fallout 4.

What I would of liked to of seen in game is for the ability to romance companions. I feel its a bit strange in a game like this you cant.

Also I found it hard to get attached to any of the companikns in this game I found them mostly boring and uniteresting which was a shame. As in games like mass effect, dragon age, fallout the companions make em.

Id score Outerworlds 8 out of 10. Definatly a must buy for any action-rpg fan.

Games great, well written and delivered, decision points are key to an enjoyable experience. However seems to be the same monsters on every world, and same human enemies, which makes for a tad stale exploring, combat and weapons are really fun though.

Fantastic game for fans of RPGs like Fallout, Skyrim and Fable. A little on the easy side but really good fun nonetheless. Be careful not to complete the main quest until you’ve done all the side quests as this will end the game!

Awesome game. Very much like playing Fallout of old, great gunplay and sense of humour. Graphics are good and the levelling up system works well. You can complete it relatively quickly if you just do the main story missions but there are plenty of side quests to get into. I don’t think this game got the recognition it deserved.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersObsidian Entertainment really knocks it out of the park with this release.
Game studios always talk about “Engagement” with their releases, whether the game is good doesn’t matter as long and someone is playing, but not Obsidian, they make the game fun first and worry about the rest later (Although the rest is damn good too).
The combat, dialog options, characters, branching narrative and world is all brilliantly woven together.
I started playing and didn’t want to stop. That’s right it is “engaging” for all the right reasons!
This is a spectacular spiritual successor to Fallout: New Vegas and one of the RPG’s I’ve played in years.
    10/10 Will play again.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersIn this day of always online, multiplayer and loot box orientated gaming I thought I’d never see a game like this again. Utterly disappointed in Fallout 76, just as with mass effect andromeda, both were games made by corporates, not gamers to extract maximum money with little quality or substance. But the Outer Worlds takes me back 10-15 years to the heyday of quality rpgs where solid gameplay, the world, characters, graphic’s and narrative are central. This is a great rpg game which will give you around 40 hours of enjoyable sci based gaming which has so much reply value too. Hats off to obsidian for this game, they’ve utter surpassed bioware and Bethesda and I will happily buy any DLC for this or the sequel!! This is and old skool rpg looter shooter no one should miss. Grab a copy asap guys, you won’t be disappointed!!

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersThe Outer Worlds was my most anticipated game of 2019, which has admittedly been of slim pickings when it comes to quality as the console generation winds down for Xbox and PlayStation. Obsidian has made some great games down the years (particularly RPG’s), and is now under the banner of Microsoft having been acquired in 2018. Does it live up to Fallout New Vegas? Or is it a terrible disappointment?

Having seen a few takes I think the best way to describe The Outer Worlds visually is as a Bioshock RPG or as a more light hearted space faring RPG. It really is nothing like Bioshock and isn’t really ever as dark, although it has its moments. Your character is mute, which I actually like, and the dialog system has been directly ported from Fallout New Vegas where the story picks up with you being awoken from cryogenic sleep. At this point you have the chance to customise your character with some fairly extensive options and particularly in terms of attributes and perks.

Other elements to make the transition from Obsidian’s prior Fallout work is a time stalling system that is similar to VATS, but less friendly to the player as time does not stop completely. This works well within the combat system which features a variety of guns (some are quite interesting) and melee weapons. One of the small things that is much better is the ammo system with light, heavy and energy ammo representing everything that you will find in Halcyon. There’s no more finding ammunition for different weapons which is great.

Factions also make the way across to The Outer Worlds but it does not really rival Fallout New Vegas where here it is a bit more mixed in terms of quality. Some factions are more interesting than others but all of the characters and many NPC’s are fully engaged within the game world where some of the writing is genuinely funny. What applies to characters also applies to factions and during the course of the game you will have the chance to find companions that you can bring on to your spaceship and I didn’t like all of them or find each character interesting but that’s to be expected. There are also loyalty missions that you can decide to complete but I can’t see that there is really any reward for doing so outside of currency, armour or achievements and the quests don’t really make any lasting difference to the overall story. It should also be stated that the AI is incompetent and so your allies aren’t very good in a firefight, although some upgrades can help you negate this a bit.

I liked the story overall and it does have you make some key choices throughout. Unfortunately these choices are usually binary in nature and it would have been welcome to have more than two directions.

Bugs have also carried over from New Vegas with occasional pop in, long loading screens between areas and the player character having a tendency to point a weapon at everyone at all times. You can holster your weapon but I’m surprised that I didn’t get involved in more gunfights with pointing my gun at random NPC’s so much. It’s a minor niggle that will hopefully be patched.

    —Summary (Scored out of 10)—
Graphics -7- Not the best but it isn’t where The Outer Worlds is sold ultimately.

Sound -8- Pretty good with some nice music throughout and particularly towards the end of the game.

Gameplay -9- Carried over from Fallout New Vegas with minor revisions and tweaks and it still proves to be great fun.

Lifespan -9- It took me around 25 hours on my first playthrough. I might go back and give it another run eventually.

    —Verdict—
Did The Outer Worlds live up to the hype? It mostly delivered for me really and Obsidian couldn’t have really done much more. I’m more of a fan of the Fallout universe and that cannot be replicated here, but it does still tell a good story, albeit overall uninspired. I’d perhaps not say that this is my Game of the Year, but it is the most solid RPG I have played in a while and if you like the genre you won’t be disappointed.

Just imagine if Obsidian had made Fallout 4 (They should have, New Vegas is a masterpiece) and you get the idea of what the Outer Worlds is like.

The thing about Obsidian games is that they understand what makes a good RPG and what makes a good RPG is how your interaction with NPC’s (companions and non companions alike) can shape your journey. Bethesda seem to have forgotten this which is why Fallout 76 is such a flop.

Right from the beginning of the game your choices can shape your journey and the great thing is it doesn’t take long to get stuck into the gameplay. You’re introduced to a couple of characters, that dark brand of humour and away you go.

The upgrading is simple and accessible, the gameplay is excellent and there is a sort of V.A.T.S system you can use.

It has everything you could want from this style of RPG and more.

Obsidian really did a lot of work on this game to make it so enjoyable, fun and also so good looking. 10 out of 10 from me! Well done Obsidian!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGood game and initially doesn’t have as many bugs as the developer is known for. That said, I did hit a bug near the end which basically has halted progress for now but I’m sure it’ll be patched soon.
If you fancy a jaunt as a space cowboy then this is the game for you. Fans of Fallout will definitely see many similarities. Think there is also a Firefly influence in some of the characters and ship set up.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersThis was made the way that Fallout 76 should have been made, it’s a fantastic rpg with a story you will get lost in, the way it should be instead of being another greedy cash cow like what Bethesda seem to be coming away with nowadays, let’s hope they don’t become the new EA, but let’s face it they’re headed that way. All credit goes to Obsidian here for this fantastic, lovingly created game which they’ve made for half the budget of a Bethesda game and they’ve absolutely nailed it, let’s hope they come out with more releases like this, I don’t think I’ve played a game so immersive since Fallout New Vegas or KOTOR. Keep up the good work Obsidian, I’ll definitely buy the next game you guys make.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersAt times I forget this isn’t a Fallout game, the similarities are striking. Playing it on Xbox using the game pass, it really is a great game. Difficulty is set just right for it to be a challenge, with the ability to craft a character how you want to play. You can go all sneaky and avoid everyone, or go massive melee and just smack everything with big hammers. I’ve gone gunner, with the usual pistols, assault rifles, snipers, light and heavy machine guns, RPG launchers and flame throwers. You get to craft a space ship crew and kit them and yourself out with progressively increasing levels of armour and weapons and mod the heck out of them. As you fly around a star system fetching, delivering and just plain wiping out things and people to get money to buy better kit to kill more people. It’s so far really enjoyable, with a good scrap just round the next purple waving tree.
So far, the only down sides are as follows:
Armour, a bit samey, not too much difference in the visuals of the armour pieces.
Graphics, generally good, but some fuzzing and drop out is seen which is a bit of a shame.
Talking, now you’ll either love wading through line after line as you find out a NPC’s hat and shoe size, but you have the option to skip it so can play without learning when someone excavated their bowels last. OR sit through and enjoy every last juicy detail.
Overall however the good vastly out ways the little bad. It’s stable, unlike Fallout 76, and graphically superior, the game play is brilliant and the crew building makes the lack of online not so bad, and avoid s the griefing you get from open worlds. Love it.
Small spoiler, 3rd planet in, cannibals invite you for dinner!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersConsidering this game is the first in what I hope will be a long line of games, it is amazing. Brilliant RPG, lots of choice and amazing story to emerce yourself in. While it does lack in a couple of things that make the game a little more fun including more randomness. You feel the missions all have depth and have been thought out. The actual game mechanics are also very sharp and I have found very little bugs whilst playing. This is what fallout 76 should have been (without multiplayer and a lot better).

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAfter the recent spate of games being released, that are broken, glitchy or don’t deliver what they promised iam so pleased I bought Outer Worlds. I use to be a massive Fallout fan until 76 came out and Bethesda started ripping its loyal customers off. This game is like Fallout in space, only without any glitches or broken quests. The dialog is witty and well written. It looks gorgeous. The combat and weopen system is entertaining. The storyline is compelling and even the side quests were interesting, not grindy. The maps aren’t as big as Fallout, but the scope for replay and doing it differently are big. Basically, if you like RPG’s, buy it.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersOuter worlds is absolutely amazing. Yeah, there are a lot of problems within the game, but it’s still a complete masterpiece. Even on the second to last hardest difficulty, it’s both fair & hard at the same time. I still think at fallout 4 has a bit of an edge in certain aspects, but! Regardless! It is a perfect game, and it has plenty of everythingg within to keep you occupied for hours.

Now, for me, it’s not five stars. I’m sorry, but there are quite a lot of bugs, noise (if you know photography then you’ll know this, but noise is where colours, and pixels are out of place, and the image looks bad.

Armour. In mostly every game these days goes inwards. This game is spefifclly bad for this.

There is no third person so the armour you worked to get is only viewable by the inventory menu which is such a shame.

Guns: if you start on one of the harder diffculties like I did, then you will have an annoyingly bad time enjoying this game as your gun does hardly any damage, and only snipers are useful.

No health regeneration…till later/or you use a bad.

There are some bad parts of the map for graphics, but don’t let any of this stop you from buying this game or downloading it from Xbox game pass, because dispute this, this game is still worth playing, so definitely give it a try.

If you enjoyed fallout…any fallout, elder scrolls, or any other game at Bethesda has made over the years, then you will love this game as it does feel fresh, and fun to play.

    Defiantly worth a try
