*if you are serious about LEARNING hand percussion get a deep carved wood body. This is what it is … a PC of painted PVC piping with a synthetic feel smell and sound . If you want a drum u can throw around a campsite or drop from a 2 story 3indow this is ur window . Lol. It’s a Toca.

This beauty facilitates my desire to bang on da drum all day. Manual tuning is a big plus over traditional strung djembes.

Love the weight, very light compared to my wooden carved djembe. Sounded great right out of the box. I’m very happy I picked this one!

Purchased this for our son more than 5 years ago. It is still in great shape and sounds just as good as it did when new.

Great quality. Has a slightly tinny sound when doing open tones, but I think that’s just this type of drum.

Did not come with bag. Don’t know how I’m meant to keep it safe from dust or travel other wise it’s an amazing drum!!!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a remarkable travel drum with a wonderful warm tone. I play it at festivals, in the rain, in the river, the lake, a steam room, sauna, and fear nothing getting the best of it. Once tuned, it maintains tension really well, and continues to deliver great tactile feedback for a variety of tambers and tones. The doum booooms, the tek is crisp but can sound tin-y when using the wrong form, the ka matches with the tek well, and the pops are wood-y and loud. I enjoy playing with fast or slow tempos loud and softly… it all sounds great. I highly recommend this for any traveling professional who doesn’t want the weight of the drum and conscience when dealing with harsh environments. I’d take this down the Colorado in the Grand Canyon in a heartbeat. Best of all is when I had a similar 10″ version of this drum cavitate after many years of serious play, DW Drums (Toca’s parent company) sent me a brand new drum free of charge in exchange for detailed photos and an explanation of the damage!! Talk about a strong reputation and great customer service. I will be playing Toca for life.

This has a real nice resounding beat. No carving, but a nice utilitarian drum. Especially nice after you break it in.

Great drum. High quality built. Good sound and can get low lows and nice mids out if it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is my first djembe. I previously owned a pair of congas as well as bongos. I gave away the bongos to a friend some years ago then sold the congas to my brother since I wasn’t playing them too often. Recently I got a hankering to hammer and while I was making up my mind I bought a large bucket from the dollar store. It was a good move since I discovered that I really did not want a 10 inch hand drum which was the approximate size of the bucket “drumming” surface. When I got an email from Amazon for musical instrument “deals” and saw this for just over $70 I knew I had to have it.

It’s a great drum for my purposes. I didn’t want a drum as tall or as heavy as a conga drum and the 12 inch head is just right. I get good bass as well as sharp, open tones and snappy slaps.

    Cons:
the tuning lugs have hard plastic caps whose edges are too sharp. They should be rounded to not scratch players potentially bare legs or even covered legs. I replaced them with automobile vacuum caps

There are 2 obvious length-wise seams, maybe from laying on the decorative outer layer

    More:
I bought a terrific bag on Amazon for about $22 Tycoon Percussion Djembe Bag – 13 Inch
I improvised a waist strap for securing the drum while standing or sitting by taking the shoulder strap from a duffle bag. It is adjustable and made of nylon webbing with metal spring clips at either end which I attached to a swivel spring clip from Home Depot.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersGreat drum. It was a lot bigger than I had expected it to be. It sounds great, but not likea drum with an authentic skin head. it will serve its purpose though. I needed a synthetic drum to play in drum circles when it rains. It came with a really nice carrying case for free. However the drum is hard to get out of the carrying case because of the tapering and finishing of the case. Drum gets caught when trying to remove it from the case at that point because of the rubber coating at the bottom of the drums. You can’t beat this drum for the money though. It costs twice as much if you buy it straight from toca.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI chose this Djembe specifically for drum circle at the beach. Expecting exposure to varying humidity and temperatures, I chose this drum made of fiberglass with a synthetic head. It is lightweight to transport, almost indestructable, easily tunable if needed, but most important…it has great tone! We plan to order another in the 14″ size! Great value!

Great drum, extremely light, a little bit low on base, but it is just fine for me, I play in a band and I use it in a stand, with a bigger Djembe to do some sound variation, I like that fact that it can be tuned so it is tuned very high and tight in order to have a sound close to a derbake. I wanted a djembe that can be tune, and small in order to get different sounds.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersGood quality construction, lightweight, reasonable sound. Bass is good and has a slap most people can get without any training. Sound is not too tinny. Way better (and Lighter) than the old Remo mondo heads. great for community drum circles
