Accuracy
The product is good to handle and use physically BUT is not at all clear how to use from the user manual.
I have it working now after several tries so think the instructions could be better for starter users.

All good but not much use yet due to restricted travel
We are very pleased with this sat nav. Our old TomTom which we’d had for many years finally stopped working and we chose this as a replacement. The screen size is smaller than our old one, but it doesn’t really seem to have made much difference. It’s clear, easy to use and has a speed camera warning. The little gadget that fixes the TomTom to the windscreen is brilliant. It’s easy to fix with a turning mechanism and stays in place (unlike our old one which simply stuck on the windscreen and often fell off!) It’s easy to set your journey and chose alternative routes according to whether you prefer motorways etc. or a quieter, more scenic route. You can then easily save your frequent routes for quick access in the future. Packed with features, this is a great buy at a reasonable price.

In the scheme of things, it probably doesn’t take all that long to initialise … but … you /will/ notice.
On the us side, I recently drove a brand new A-class Mercedes as a rental – and although this TomTom’s graphics aren’t going be as good as this big-screen integrated system, I’d take its guidance and clarity of instructions over the Mercedes system every time (as soon as the TomTom has booted up). The Mercedes drove me (not quite literally – it was still me driving) to distraction : what does ‘slight right’ mean ? And some of those – when I eventually got back on track and tried again – were more than 90 degrees. What is ‘slight’ about that ?
TomTom far superior to Mercedes, all day long.
If you can live with giving it time at the start, it’s a good sat nav – period: and at the price, you can have no complaints about value.

I like the product–big improvement on my previous one— However it is 50 years out of date upon delivery. The Major junction near here where the A689 intersects with the A68 was opened 50 years ago but is not recognised by the Sat-Nav—-if its so far inaccurate then the rest of it id suspicious too—I would not rely upon it at all.
Super little uni
This is a great little satnav for not much money. I wanted a car mount kit for my TomTom Rider motorbike unit. that was going to 50. I saw this “light” tomtom car unit for just 65 so went for it. Its great, usual tomtom features easy mounting unit and very light weight.

I’ve never had a Sat Nav before so didn’t know what to expect and I’m not a techy but this is fairly easy to set up and use. I have only used it twice up to now and one address was spot on and the other a little bit out. However I am happy with the product.
An expected TomTom produc
Handles well, it is a TomTom after all, but the accompanying Manual is sparse with required first time user detail. Getting to POI’s is not easy compared with my old XL. Equally is there any access to User POI’s? How do you tell TomTom of required mapping corrections, road works with diversions, etc. for all users in TomTom World to benefit? First time users may struggle and TomTom may suffer in the long term perhaps.
It does the job, but a step backwards from older versions
It’s not often that an item of tech goes backwards, but, although there are some useful new features, this TomTom is not as good as my original TomTom, which was easier to use, and didn’t suffer from lag when pressing the on screen menus – On my previous TomTom, you could actually plot a whole route on the Sat Nav itself. I believe there is some way of doing this online.
It, sort of, does the job, but not as well as previous versions.
Does what it says on the box
Great piece of tech – just a pity the touch screen can be very slow to respond and glitchy. But if you are patient – input is easy enough and it does what it says – gets you to where you need to be. It does help if you have the postal code before hand as it doesn’t really recognise places or shopping centres very well.

Works for me
After reading the reviews on here I almost didn’t buy it. But I had a faulty ‘refurbished’ one from another source and I had tested its route finding in London and it did use the main roads sensibly (unlike the Garmin I tried out). I found it a good. basic Sat Nav that quickly re-calculated when I chose to go by another route. Address finding isn’t perfect as my Aunt’s postcode wasn’t found but I could enter the full address.

Excellent model and works well. Highly recommended.
No real issues except there seems to be a limited colour of Themes. Tried to emulate the older models by using a bright red colour arrow to indicate road and direction, but nearest colour was pink which did not look good so had to use the blue colour. Just a small point.

Not the best satnav I’ve ever had but it does what I need it to do.
The satnav takes longer routes and if I didn’t know some of the route, I never would have travelled the shorter distance. Nothing wrong with that but sometimes, it’s annoying because it could take me the straight line (so to speak) but actually takes me the back roads unnecessarily.
Accurate and reliable.
I like the ease of entering an address and the speed of calculating the route and distance and eta. What I really don’t like about it is that it is too quiet!! When the radio is on I can’t hear the directions. My old Tom Tom was louder the faster the car was moving (so noisier) – this new one, at top volume is still far too quiet which, on an unfamiliar route, is a bit dangerous. I’m rather disappointed Tom Tom, though, apart from the volume, everything else is fine.

I haven’t really had any major problems with this satnav and find it easy to use. I don’t really look at the visual display whilst driving so can’t comment on that but the voice commands are very clear and precise. I’ve had the occasional problem when the system stopped working but this was in remote areas and I think it was due to poor signal strength.

How accurate is the machine?
I have had a TomTom for many years so when I typed in an address, on my new Tom Tom in London, Stillness Road it came up as SE4 not SE23 which is correct I was amazed. My wife lived at this address for 35 years before we moved down to East Sussex 20 years ago, and her son still lives there so we are certain of the correct post code
On first start up I tried to update the European maps but it said the internal memory was full so I had to insert an SD card into the TomTom. This TomTom is totally different to my old TomTom and took some time to program my trips into the memory, now I have found my way around this TomTom I think it is a really good SatNav at extremely good value.

Prefer older models
Not keen on info at side of screen, prefer at bottom as earlier versions. This is our 4th Tomtom and much prefer the simplicity of the previous versions + they had a better selection of mounting methods.
Differe
Had a tomtom for about 4 years but they no longer update it. Bought this one and it’s ‘ok’ seems slower to start. Think I have finally sussed it but my other one seemed better. Will see how it goes when we go on a long trip.

I got a new car and my very old Tom Tom Gave up. Tom Tom is the only brand that I trust. Did borrow something else once and nearly threw it out of the car window The only issue for me is battery power Only seems to last a few hours

The touch screen responds like a snail on valium, which is annoying when you have a series of deliveries to make in the London rush hour. Other than that, it rates as ok.
Our old satnav could no longer be updated thus use it in the car used more locally. For the more adventurouse trips we up dated. I did have a battery problem at first and my connection in car was not helping so I got lost near Heathrow. A good old Cab driver directed me back into London and out again with the correct route. As I was approaching my destination with roundabouts and busy traffic it suddenly came allive again and I found my Hotel. Phew. I managed to fix it for the homeward bound but did not realy need it due to better main road signage. Now it beeps to remind me about Cameras. Hooray. So far no fines. 100 plus 6 points f they get you plus insurance goes up. Get one they are very good recommended by Which also at that time.
Helpful for a new drive
Maybe I have lower expectations than some others! Recently passed my test and found this tomtom easy to follow on my lessons, so decided to buy one… TBH I’d be lost without it! Had to do a lot of new routes and long distances. I feel more confident with it. Don’t always trust the speed limit it gives you though! Been in London a few times on 20mph roads and it calls them 30mph — so don’t rely on it too much!
It helps on the motorways and a-roads when there are multiple lanes, as it previews you which lanes are ok and which one/s aren’t.
Something I found confusing to start was when it says “keep right”, it usually just means “don’t be in the left lane”… There are a couple other bits that are verbally communicated that make less sense as vocal orders than if you just follow the map. So take her words with a pinch of salt sometimes!

Dose what it says on the tin. Found the screen was a bit hard to see letters and numbers and slow to load when punching the address of location.
I mainly bought this sat nav as it’s the entry level sat nav that examiners will use in the real driving test. My driving instructor also has this exact sat nav and I’m already used to how it works when I am going through several test routes.
The main reason why I got it right now on offer is because I got fascinated by the voice recognition and recording the routes feature that I bought my own to use when I pass my test and travel to places I’m not familiar with. It was easy to use but my sweaty fingers do need to wiped off each time but there are no smudges on the screen so that a good thing. My dad had the Start 25 five years back but he doesn’t use it as his current car has a built in sat nav. I can’t comment on the battery as I plugged it in my laptop as soon as I logged in to MyDrive Connect. It updated software quite quick. The voice was set to Serena as her voice is clear and not slow like Jane. The only thing I need to do is pick a route and get going. The delivery came next day when it was supposed to arrive on the 29th. Good stuff!
Only gripe is that the sat nav came with an outdated map from June which is map 1011 when the current map is 1020, but I will have to purchase it later as I’m unable to get the update even though the sat nav does say lifetime maps. Hats not an issue for me as my tests next month so time will tell when I need to purchase it.
My new TomTom Start 52 is now OK and fully operational. However the instruction book only states the obvious. If you are not familiar with the product there is no help. The customer help line appears not to exist, same for the email address and the My Tom Tom WEB page just takes you round in circles. A simple menu tree in the instruction book or on line would save a lot of frustration. My problem was only resolved by accident. Still don’t know the appropriate on/off switch location. Shame because the product is excellent.
great map detail
I had a site visit to a customer site, in the middle of farmland and with this satnav I got to the destination. Colour maps are detailed and road directions are quickly announced. Speed camera beeps sound well before speed camaera arrives to warn you in good time to slow down. Cannot fault this device.

Good easy to use
Great little sat nav,i work as a service engineer so need a good sat nav, have a built in sat nav in my VW van but it is rubbish, this is much clearer and gives much more advanced warning of junctions, turns etc, very easy to use and has no problem finding best route.

clear screen, up to date roads, easy to use
I purchased two, one for son who does a lot of driving and he says its so much better than his old satnav and he has it on all the time. I’ve only used mine twice so cannot really say but the screen is nice and clear, easy to use. Both are plugged in all the time so no comment on battery life. don’t see a problem if you can plug it into the car ?

I have been looking for a sat nav and the reviews haven’t been so good. I bought a different make and it was useless so I had to return it.
I read the mixed reviews on here and thought I’d give Tom Tom a go. I am so glad I did. This little device is brilliant. If I could give it 10 stars I would. Highly recommend.

It looks nice and the 5″ display is neither too big or too small, the image is clear. Initial setup requires you to plug into a laptop to update it, but is easy enough.
It got me to where I needed to go although it took me a route I didn’t want to go, as I didn’t realise you could choose a route instead of the one it automatically gives you, novice mistake. When choosing a route it was quite difficult because of the detail of the map is not great, as it doesn’t show many place names so you have to keep zooming in and out to make sure it’s the right route- bit of a faff. The instructions are clear and concise. Generally though it’s easy to use, and gets you where you want to go.
Purchased this as my previous sat nav was stolen out of my car, which was a good thing cos it was so old, I couldn’t update the maps. this Arrived very quickly, well packaged. and with updates for life is very convenient. Many thanks.

I do not find my START52 as good as my GO 750 LIVE which is no longer supported by TOMTOM. I hope that the lifetime maps offer is as good as it sounds but only time will tell. I have only just started using the new TOMTOM (yesterday) but it does not seem as user friendly as my previous model and I do not like the graphics as much. I wish TOMTOM were like Microsoft so I could have a screen display that I am familiar with.

OK, so it’s the economy model. It’s not TomTom’s fanciest, but it works fine, and it don’t need a second mortgage. 😉

Great sat-nav, bought to replace an older TomTom which now refuses to take power (approx 7 years old). A little slow on start up but once it’s going it’s accurate, the display is clear and offers lots of info without being crowded. Got us to Scotland and back with no problems!

Good Product but the software can be a bit annoying to use.
Purchased this as it is the one used by the DVSA for the driving tests. It seems to work fine and is ideal for the purpose. There are a few errors but you get that with just about every Satnav! Screen is clear to see but there is a very slight lag setting up pre recorded routes. Occasionally the volume mutes itself. Overall a good quality device at a reasonable price

Nice big clear screen. Why they don’t include ROI with the Western Europe mapping I just don’t know as they are in the EU.
Bought it for my husband, who recently got his driving license, and he absolutely loves it. It is easy to update and use, and as some complained that it hangs, we didn’t once encounter it, been using it for 3 months now
Very useful when travelling abroad
Very useful when travelling abroad. We would have battled without it in Germany. The suction cup a problem tho as it kept falling off.
I ordered this as I was travelling to France. I competed all the updates prior to travelling. Apart from not recognising the new Queensferry Crosding the sat nav worked well with directions, speed cameras and converted miles to kilometres in France for speed restrictions. Would recommend.

Had to get used to it in a hurry, but I’m gradually learning all the extras that are on it. Lovely clear screen, but fixing it to the window attachment is a struggle. I’m hoping it will get easier with use.

Purchased as a gift for my 23 year old grandson to assist him on his journey to Wales from Bournemouth as he is coming to stay with me for a holiday and he has very little motorway experience. This Sat Nav has all the features he will need for the journey.
Great product, easy to set up and use. I bought this as a treat for passing my test and it’s helped me get around so much! Haven’t had any issues with it, settings make it easy to customise routes as I’m not confident with motor ways yet so have been the routes around that. Also finding routes with petrol stops is very handy and the free few months of speed camera checks is also helpful

If you buy this tomtom , be aware its difficult to set up if your running xp or vista on your laptop .Use the device manager in windows and update the driver found in progfiles mydriveconnectdriverINF. MyConnect should include a better driver installer ….
This superb navigation instrument recently replaced my ageing TomTom ONE XL, of fond memory!
The increased screen size makes programming and setting up significantly easier whilst the larger display and crystal clear diction (including spoken street names) are a distinct improvement.
Altogether a vastly superior Sat Nav System when compared to those built into other cars operated within this family!

Works well, cable a bit fiddly to fit when on it’s already attached to windscreen. Screen is a nice size.
Well things must gave improved from a previous review. It took 5 – 6 mins to log on, register and donload My Drive Connect to my laptop. At this point you connect the sat nav NOT before. It took another 15 mins to deposit up to date maps and speed camera stuff. Also came with good instructions brochure which allowed me to set up my preferences very easily. My mark is on ease of start up. I may change it after using if I have any issues. I recon it is going to be ok.

I thought Halfords was the same price which it was but with part exchange, I waited over 5 mins and couldn’t see an assistant to speak to so I left . Next time Ill buy direct from Amazon!
