Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI absolutely love this device!
I chose this particular band for its many features.
When we got our two litter brothers, we were oblivious and somewhat naive about kitties wandering off and not returning.
So we didn’t fret too much after a day or two of Smudge being gone as we honestly believed he would return home.
Fudge became withdrawn and slept all day and kept us awake all night. I refused to let him go out. Then I heard about Tractive. Sceptical and dubious, I went ahead and purchased the unit and signed up for the annual sub. Fudge is now allowed out again but only when he has his tracker on. He associates the beep of the tractive being switched on to the window being opened. Although I still behave like a mother hen, I can now have peace of mind when Fudge goes on his little adventures because I can track him real time providing the satelight isn’t being blocked.
The only niggle I have which is really small is that when Fudge sneaks back in to the house the system sends updates to my phone to say he has left or entered the virtual/safe zone.
However… I’m sure that would be a small tweak for the developer to fix.
Smudge didn’t return…it’s been 5 months now. If he did return, he would have two choices.. be grounded or have a Tractive device. Personally .. the Tractive is the best option. If kitty gets stuck.. you can find him. If it’s dark, you can activate the light on the device so kitty lights up. It is easy to recharge and you can see the battery level from your phone. Don’t forget though, you do still need to microchip your pets and ensure your details are kept updated on the system.
    Get your Tractive device now!!

To Tractive or not to Tractive ...

Good when the GPS works (some areas doesn’t track at all) and the customer service team are really helpful

I lost a dog last year. It was one of the most traumatic things to happen. Since then my two remaining dogs wear Tractive trackers at all time. It updates the position roughly every 15 minutes. I’ve set a safe zone and it alerts me fairly rapidly (but not instantly) if they wander beyond it. When switching to live tracking it can sometimes take several attempts until it establishes GPS or mobile signal. The clasps for the collar could be better. One has snapped, one is lost after the tracker fell off several times. I charge them every night, but it can, just about, get two days use from it, but I don’t like leaving it on the dogs 24 hours. One Tractive unit failed after 11 months but Tractive happily replaced it. It provides a lot of reassurance for me to have this back-up.

I have been using Tractive dog gps tracker everyday for 3 months now overall I would say it is an excellent device and well worth the money for the pease of mind it gives to me.
I regularly use the dog walk app feature that long the route and distance my dog has walked.
I haven’t had need to use the live tracking feature as my dog hasn’t run off. However knowing I have this option allows me to be more confident with him being off lead during recall training.
I find the battery lasts for a whole day when the Tractive is always switched on and longer if it is only switched on while out on walks. I charge it every night when my dog is asleep as I would a mobile phone.
The features I wasn’t so keen on and would like to see improved is the way the tracker clips to my dogs collar. I have found that it’s not particularly secure and has fallen off quite a few times this is especially problematic for my boisterous puppy who likes to rub up against things and then knocks the tractive device off. I have solved this problem for now by using an elastic band around the device to hold the clip in position more tightly but it would be nicer not to need to use a diy solution.

I love this product it takes all the stress out of walking my adventurous dog as I always know where he is. Very durable been everywhere, sea, rivers and still works very well. Great product for a great price.

Quite big, but our cat doesn’t seem to mind. Generally good coverage in our area and the battery lasts a couple of days. Really stops us worrying when he doesn’t come home and let’s us see where he goes… Which is much further than we thought!

A great little device to keep track or find my errant springer spaniel. It is robust and has stayed securely on his collar despite being dragged through tangles of brambles and puddles. It even copes with the steep slopes and cliffs in our local area though very occasionally the signal drops out. Highly recommended.

Good app that is straightforward to use. If you use the right collar clip, seems to fit well and stand up to some rough dog play. Really happy with the ki

Rosie has worn her Tractive every day for more than a year now. Rosie is a very active dog, is rarely on the lead, usually running free over open ground, and through trees and heavy undergrowth. Most days she has a swim in the local river, and she loves a dip in the sea. The Tractive has worked faultlessly since day one. On the few occasions when Rosie has disappeared, I was able to locate her and track her down using the Tractive app on my phone. At the end of October this year, Rosie was struck by a car. The impact threw Rosie (and her Tractive) about 30 feet along the road. Fortunately, apart from three broken teeth and a number of cuts and grazes, Rosie suffered no major injuries. As can be seen from the photograph, her Tractive also took a severe battering when Rosie hit the road, and bounced and rolled. I can’t believe it’s still working – but it is! I am delighted with Rosie’s Tractive. For a small monthly fee, I know I can rely on it to find her if she disappears again. I also know it is rugged enough to go anywhere Rosie goes, and keep working.

Rosie's Tractive - battered but unbowed!

We have a Tractive tracker for our lively dog and we are able to relax in the knowledge we can locate him should he wander off the beaten track…which he often does! The tracker appears to be exceptionally accurate. We recently misplaced the device somewhere close to home. We managed to locate it in the garage, inside a shoe using the GPS and by activating the sound option!

I got this tracker for my wandering cat. We haven’t had her very long, she is a rescue cat but as she is an adult that is used to outdoor access she isn’t very keen to stay in for long. She has wandered off a little too far on a couple of occasions & not been able to make her way home. Luckily, thanks to Facebook appeals, she has been found each time.
When the tracker arrived she was still AWOL so I tested it on my other cats. It was awesome, one cat goes between 3 houses on the street as he’s very lazy, the other one has had a stern telling off for crossing a main road by himself!
My wandering cat has been wearing the tracker for a few weeks now, it was immediately attached to her collar the second I collected her from the pub (obviously knew it was only a matter of time before I found her!) & it’s brilliant. She wanders far & wide but luckily has managed to find her way home. I particularly like being able to do live tracking, it means I can watch her getting closer as I shout her to come home.
The only downside is the subscription fee but I had already done my research so it wasn’t a surprise. Just wish they did a discount on subscriptions if you get more trackers. I’d love to be able to track all 4 of my cats & see where they go when they are let loose!

    Great for cats too

The peace of mind these give you is best. When you have dogs that like to range these devices are ideal. Accurate and waterproof.
I’d just recommend getting a second phone or second SIM (on a dual SIM phone), and on another network if you walk in a weaker reception area.

Top dog tracker, accuracy OK (although not as accurate as i’d like) but the alerts and tracking are great features. Works in any range as it works on the cellular network not bluetooth (latter wouldn’t work for my dog – she’s fast).

Would recommend to anyone worried about pet disappearing on long walks.

We have a spaniel beagle cross and she likes to chase deer and squirrels and her recall when doing so is very poor so she can easily get lost. We have had the tracker for a year now and it has enables us to find her on several occasions. Good things are the ease of use, good battery life, good app and once tracking it is very accurate. Poor things are the clip that holds the tracker to the collar (the tracker was knocked of three times over the first weeks especially if the dog puts it head through a stock fence and pulls back catching the clip so we have purchased a small pouch to hold the tracker) and in woodland it can take two or three minutes for the tracker to connect to the app (partly an issue of the GPS signal under trees and maybe the pouch we have to use). Have no experience of other trackers but this one works for us. Beware the annual cost for the subscription is around 75, which includes insurance.

This brings a huge peace of mind when my dog is off lead. I no longer worry where she is when she has a run around the woods. Live tracking is pretty good and the Augmented Reality (AR) function in the app is brilliant. The subscription fees are reasonable too. Two things that could be better… a battery level indicator in the app so I’m not constantly neurotically charging it and also, the device switches on when you charge it. You must remember to switch it off after charging otherwise the battery will start to drain. These are only minor issues in what is otherwise a very good piece of tech.

A note when signing up for the subscription: I had a minor hiccup with the online payment for the subscription where the website gave an error and I ended up paying twice on my credit card. Didn’t notice until I got my statement 17 days later.
The refund policy is 14 days so if it the website glitches on you check your statement quickly. Thankfully a very kind and rapid customer support person at Tractive arranged a refund. Definitely recommend!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe tracker build quality is excellent and I have to say it worked perfectly straight out of the box. After a few days the tracker picked up the mobile phone signal but not the GPS signal. Tractive customer service were excellent and after numerous attempts at trying to remotely sole the issue I’ve had to have a replacement device sent out. I could still locate our dog using the device but I could not live track it. Although I’ve had an issue with the device the customer service, what the device could still do whilst defective and the great deal on the subscription I paid all combined makes me award five stars.

Great product. Thankfully Isla has never ran off. I can let her out into the garden and would be alerted if she left it. Its also good while on holidays as she wouldn’t know her way back if she got spooked but we could find her in minutes. Isla also is forever swimming with it on and have had no problems. I would recommend this product for peace of mind.

I use this GPS tracker for 3 of my dogs (beagles). They have a tendency to run off and do their own thing from time to time and the tracker enables me to see exactly where they are when they do this. I had a scary night when one of my dogs went off and I could not locate her in the walking area for a whole evening, if I had the GPS, things would have been different, I would have been able to have narrowed her down to one area, and find her. This would have saved myself a terrible night, after this, I bought the Tractive GPS trackers. The customer service is also excellent. One of my units isn’t connecting too well to the GPS and Tractive are replacing this for me. There are 2 other families on my street who now use them, so they are doing the job!

    Peace of Mind

I have two trackers, which serve well on two large and adventurous dogs. There is a subscription plan which you need on top of the device, but the price is reasonable for the service given. I have had to replace one tracker (just within warranty) which was handled perfectly with no fuss, and one way outside warranty (low price device-only replacement and easy transfer of subscription). A great product with a well organised service team backing it up

This is such a great product, particularly when, as I do, you have a young boisterous and adventurous Labrador! I can see exactly where he is at all times!
My only criticism is that it is necessary to remove the Tractive tracker from the collar on order to charge, which I do each night when he is safely in doors. However, constantly clipping and unclipping means that the plastic clip does weaken, and we have lost the clip and tracker twice. Finding the tracker isn’t the problem, but the clips haven’t been found in the long grass. Problem has been partly solved by using cable ties round the tracker and collar as an added protection.

    Brilliant!

The tracker has been brilliant, it locates him almost all the time except when in the peaks which you would expect. Customer service has been really good. We required a replacement tracker after we lost GPS after 11 months of using the tracker and the customer service term could not be anymore helpful.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThe Tractive GPS Tracker has given us peace of mind. We have a male Goldie who likes to wander & he can jump most of our fences. As all our boundary fences back onto fields, & as he often disappears like smoke, it’s fantastic knowing which direction to head off after him in. Some fields lead to other fields, some to the river, & in some directions to a road, so it’s important to get it right. I wish the alert was a bit quicker, but think this is due to GPS technology rather than the device, & sometimes it does go a bit crazy, again due to GPS I think. Once I rushed out the door as it showed he was headed off in field towards the road, only to almost trip over him lying peacefully on grass just outside the door. The support received is always prompt & helpful. At present there is an issue with adding ‘indefinitely’ another access via an iPhone (great for when you have a house-sitter looking after the dogs – they just download the app to their phone) but believe this will be resolved on the next update. We took out insurance so we’re covered for lost devices (the way it attaches to the collar seems a bit flimsy) but to be fair he runs about like a loon, goes swimming in the river, & then shakes himself vigorously, & it’s stayed on so far. We read other reviews & we took the advice & take it off each evening & charge it, so battery life not been an issue. Would definitely recommend, it’s made our life a lot less stressful 🙂

Bought this to keep a (virtual) eye on a wayward and escape prone terrier! I’ve found it really helpful and reassuring that he can be tracked if and when he escapes. The virtual fence is an excellent feature giving a notification when he has left the garden! Live tracking is good, we live in open countryside, I believe its less effective in woodland due to GPS inaccuracies, but its been brilliant in tracking him when needs be. The app is really user friendly, and when my tracking device was faulty they have sent out a replacement (I have Tractive Care) with no quibbles, and ASAP delivery! Highly reccd.

Adopted a precious rescue cat so keen to ensure she was safe outdoors. Not the most tech savvy so I needed some help setting up the product. Customer support and advice excellent. Device is rather large when carried by a relatively small cat but she would rather wear it than miss out on an outdoor trip (fortunately it attaches to her normal collar).
Accuracy okish but more than compensated for by key advantages which are you can (1) do live tracking and (2) set virtual boundaries on the map (and receive notification emails if cat exits the boundary).
A very useful device which does the job well of keeping both owner and pet satisfied!

After charging I like how this tracker worked right out of the box, first register online, then download the app to smartphones (we use 2), read the instructions and off you go! The location shown so far has been pinpoint accurate, I’ve used it both in open fields and in very steep and tree covered rocky mountains, but mainly I walk my dog in the city at 5am, in areas of virtually zero traffic and off the leash, when we get to open spaces she roams and I then turn on the Live Tracking and her collar flashes every 5 seconds, it clips easily onto the collar and my 8kg little girl (not wearing the Tractive in the picture) doesn’t notice it’s there…Manufacturers Note: It would be nice to be able to turn on the light from the mobile app, it can be done from the PC at home (but why would I?) so why not from the app?

    Excelle

I have two cats and they both wear two collars and a tracker now after they both went missing. I an now see where they are all the time. I do try to charge them each every day or so but it’s simple to set up. Wotsit went out one night and came back without collars and the tracker was caput (I guess it got ran over by a car or broken up a tree. Order a new one, it came the next day, I charged it and transferred the subscription which was also very easy and customer services very good in sending me the link to do so. Would recommend

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMy Siberian cat loves to wander in the woods behind our home. This tracker is fantastic as I now no longer worry where he is and it is great fun tracking him as he comes home when we call him.
The virtual fence is excellent as we call him when we are notified that he has exited it and he returns very quickly on hearing us call, which prevents him wandering too far. The light and sound features are excellent to help find the tracker, when we misplaced it in our home. It uses GPS so it is possible to track him even if I am miles away from home, and alert family members if he needs calling back.
It fits very securely onto his standard collar and given he is a latge cat (8kg) he seems to have no issues wearing it.
    Overall an excellent purchase.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWhy would you not have one. I dread the idea of loosing my dog. She runs in and out of the forest on our long walk every day, if she hurt herself I would be able to locate her or if she got a fright and ran off in a different direction.
Know one knows what is going to happen and it’s better to be safe than cry about it later.
For me it’s small price to play for added peace of mind. Great product. I recently couldn’t find where I had left it in the house so I used my phone to play the sound alert and found it within minutes another great feature

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIdeally I would say this product is better suited for dogs rather than cats. Given that the device can fit against a dogs coat more snugly and that cats are much more likely to get into situations when they will be alone and likely to get into mischief. Being a cat owner, I have used Tractive to follow my cat’s extensive movements and on the whole it works very well and has provided me with much peace of mind. However, I live in a rural area where my cats are across fields and through hedges. Inevitably this has led to situations where they have got their collars trapped in branches etc and in pulling free, have pulled either the tracker or the whole collar off. I have not been able to retrieve some of the devices easily due to their lost locations, but the Tractive Plan is very good for offering replacements etc. On my most recent purchase, I have noticed many improvements in the accuracy of live tracking and specific locations. So all good. I still think a more cat-appropriate tracker size and shape would be better but maybe this will come in time. Customer Service at Tractive is friendly and helpful. And the price per unit is better than many other options.

This is such a great device – I have two terriers who love to hunt – and chase foxes – and with the use of this device, I always know where they are which is such a relief as they run off into woods and will not return if on a chase. They have been through water, mud, thick brambles and thankfully I can find them. The reception is good – unless in a bad wireless area. Their customer service is top dollar – extremely fast, helpful and responsive. It takes the stress out of walking your dog off the lead.

We were moving abroad with our much loved Collie. We were worried she may get lost in her new environment where dog wardens and helpful dog loving neighbours are not so thick on the ground.

I researched the market very carefully before settling on Tractive.

We started using the tracker from the moment our dog left the UK in a pet transportation service. Two thousand miles later she arrived and I was able to track here all the way knowing direction, speed, distance. I also kept the wife of the driver updated as to exactly where her husband was 🙂

Since we have been here it has been a vital tool for peace of mind with the live tracking and virtual fence.

The only reason I have not given 5 stars is that I feel that the arrangement for attaching the device to the collar could be better and the attachment to re-charge the battery is a bit hit and miss and too fiddly.

    Tractive customer service is superb.

I would definitely buy the same again.

A brilliant product, I’ve had mine for two years and it provides complete peace of mind. Our dog rarely dissapears for long but the worst situation is when you didn’t see in which direction he went. You then have the dilemma, if I start to search am I infact moving away from the dog. Tractive has a long battery life, several days, as it normally operates in non live mode, updating every few muntes, bit when switched to live the map view shows where the dog is in real time with a red trail as he moves so you can see his direction of travel. In addition, of you’re not a good map reader Tractive has a camera mode where you can see through the phone’s camera with directional arrows which tell you to go left, right or straight on and the distance to the dog. I try never to go for a walk without Tractive and am a lot more relaxed when I know it is my eye in the sky.

I had high hopes for this as we have a 1 year old toy poodle with a mind of her own and has started going awol…it worked well the first day, which was good as she shed the collar and I used the tracker to find it! Second day not so good with long wait times to find her – if at all.
Great customer service diagnosed this as poor mobile signal… so returned the product.
If buying, you’ll need a good mobile coverage. Also, try and get the device at the top of the colllar – not always easy – or on a harness so it points to the sky.. with our dog, it slipped under her chin and limited gps connection. Sadly had to return…

Having lost our beautiful 7 month old Flatcoated Retriever Puppy in the park and launching a huge dog hunt (Charlies Army), only to find him on the train tracks 10 days later it was with much trepidation that we got another puppy. When we got our new pup we were so scared the same thing would happen again we bought a Tractive GPS tracker. Murphy is now 17months old and has been joined by Finn (4 month old) and we use the tracker everyday. Anyone who knows Flatties will know they adore rivers, lakes, the sea and mud and getting into all sotrs of scrapes. The tracker has dealt with everything in the time we’ve had it (now 8 months) and is still working really well. Recently Murphy managed to get it off his collar in deep undergrowth. When we realised he’d lost it we were able to go back to the spot and retrieve it. It’s brilliant.
If only we’d had it when we lost Charlie he would still be with us today.

Bought this to replace one that we sadly lost but we had had it for nearly four years so got very good value out of it. We attach this to our little Jack Russell’s collar when she is off the lead and roaming the fields as she is quite adventurous. It is a brilliant bit of kit and we have used it to find her on many occasions and the accuracy is generally pretty great. I would not be without this now as it is low cost for giving you such peace of mind. Very very highly recommended.

The app is very much improved and dead easy to use, the battery life is great, the charger is really good too. The device itself isn’t too bulky either so my dog doesn’t mind having it on. At a great price (and the subscription cost is well worth it for piece of mind), myself and family members will not let the dog leave without this – highly recommended!

I have this and a Pod and neither is perfect. Overall I would say that the Tractive is the better tracker for live tracking in the park or woods as it seems to acquire the GPS signal more quickly and responds better to being switched to live mode. Like all trackers its refresh rate can be quite low once out of live mode to preserve battery life. Tractive can also make a noise and has a light to help find it or the pet, which the Pod does not. I wasn’t convinced by the look of the securing clip but it does work. Pod is probably slightly better in urban environments as it uses Wifi and Bluetooth to help locate (and you can force a refresh of the position, although the refresh can be slow which undermines the feature). Obviously, both are subject to the inherent limitations of GPS so accuracy can vary. I found the geofence feature a bit more user friendly on the Tractive, and you can also login to Tractive online as well as via the app. Obviously you want the app if you need to track a lost pet, but the online feature is a good addition for checking history and setting geofences. Overall, I would say this pips Pod due to being a bit more user friendly and quicker to respond.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have 2 of these trackers and I was doubtful at first because we live in an area without much network signal but I have 2 rehomed Shibas that like to escape or run off.
Essentially one of the trackers works brilliantly – much better than I expected and although I’ve had issues with the 2nd one, the customer support has been excellent (especially Anja!).
I’m giving 5 stars for 3 reasons: 1)The first tracker is highly accurate, even in an area I expected to have not much network. 2) The customer support has been excellent. 3) One of my dogs ran off this morning in woodland, pouring rain & heading straight for the road at last sighting. I used the app to locate my dog (while running through mud, undergrowth and wet through!) and between the tracker/app and my other dog sniffing the trail I FOUND MY DOG! The tracker was correct (and so was my other dog). The dog could have been anywhere in acres of woodland or found it’s way to a road – even having a rough idea where to run was useful but it was much more accurate than that. I found the dog nowhere near where it ran off and in the opposite direction.
It’s worth the money for that one occasion alone!

We have used the Tractive GPS collar for about a month.
We have put the device on our 7.2 kg border terrier. It is relatively large, but does not seem to concern her, nor has it been dislodged in undergrowth or from the playing with other dogs. We have it attached to her narrow leather collar with no problems.
The battery charger is a bit challenging to connect, but charges quickly. The charge depends of how you use it (live or not) and the type of environment; cold or canopy cover decreases battery life. We reliably get 3 days from a charge but now charge every other day for simplicity and to ensure plenty of reserves should ‘live mode’ be needed.
The device is normally pretty accurate and we can track our dog when she runs off. On occasion it is a few meters out. On a single occasion it was a few miles out – not sure why or how but it took a day for the location to return back to us – fortunately our dog stayed with us all that time.
So in summary very effective at tracking your dog; we value the peace of mind and it gives us more confidence to let our dog off the lead.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWe were wanting to let our newly rescued dog off lead but anxious to do so as her recall wasn’t perfect. Having researched the many options for trackers we opted for Tractive. The reasons for this was the waterproof nature of the tracker and being GPS rather than Bluetooth.
The iPhone app allows multi-users and has good real-time tracking. So even if we can’t see our dog, we know if she is coming back (or not!). The live tracking does chew up the iPhone battery but it is fine for a couple of hours. The live tracking does stop if the phone screen locks, so don’t forget to switch this off if you don’t want to keep restarting the live tracking!
Tractive has given us great peace of mind with our new dog whilst we work on her training/recall.

I bought this as my beagle is lead by her nose. I have tracked her every time she disappears with no problems. It’s given me peace of mind and the confidence to take her to many places. I would recommend this product. There is an annual fee of approx 40 which is worth it and there are options to insure the device

Fantastic device. Clips on the collar or harness securely. Gives peace of mind if your hound is a wanderer – ours is! It’s not infallible but has never let us down when our beagle has ran of on a scent. The live feature is so useful once they are out of sight. I’ve recommended this piece of kit to so many friends, acquaintances and also strangers who’ve stopped us on walk!

Great piece of kit for a wandering beagle

I bought this to try and keep an eye on my mother (who has dementia) and her dog. It proved useful on a few occasions (probably because we’re in an area with good phone reception), but if Mum spotted the tracker it would usually be removed, so it turned out to be of limited use. However if I’d bought it earlier in Mum’s decline we might have had a lot more benefit from it and I would have been saved from a few frantic street searches.

After I gave up work to become a human tracker, I forgot about the Tractive until this week when it automatically renewed for another year. So if you stop using the device make sure you deactivate it to avoid another year’s subscription. But to be fair to Tractive, they have now refunded the money even though the mistake was mine. And if I was relying on this for monitoring but it suddenly stopped working because I’d forgotten to renew, I’d probably be more upset about a missing dog than an unplanned payment for a whole year.

I will also add that this tracker actually worked better for keeping an eye on my mother than the much more expensive ‘dementia tracker’ I also bought at the same time. Although that had a more flexible monthly subscription (using any SIM card I preferred) the live tracking feature on the Tractive was much more useful than that on the dementia tracker. The Tractive unit was also smaller and harder to notice, though with a smaller size you also get a shorter battery life. That’s a problem with all battery operated tech though.

Which reminds me that charging the Tractive is a bit fiddly. Getting the charging clip positioned correctly can be tricky on this version. Others also mention that the collar clip isn’t very robust. I shared this concern at first, but the device never came off accidentally when we were using it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWe bought this to keep an eye on our cat – he has a rare condition and has broken both his kneecaps. We don’t know if he’s likely to break anything else and so want to be able to see where he is and keep an eye on him. Although rather large for a cat, he isn’t bothered by it at all and it gives us peace of mind knowing where he is. Please note that there is an extra monthly cost for the tracking service, which isn’t necessarily abundantly clear when buying the tracker. We would definitely recommend this, though – works really well for a reasonable price.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMany more eloquent reviews about the flaws of this product but as an off-lead beagle owner, this is our piece of sanity ‘just in case’ for field walks with 3G / 4G mobile signal range – even on Three network! We use a Julius K9 IDC harness and find that the tracker fits like a bug in a rug with a clip around the strap under the handle, if it weren’t for this nook, I would be gaffer taping the bad boy as the clip doesn’t fill me with confidence.

Good product, far from perfect but the best piece of sanity for a small price

Quite chunky but ok on a big dog. Sturdy build. The signal is a bit flaky especially in woodland but still very reassuring to know that I can find my dog if she runs off, even if I have to wait for her to emerge into a clear signal area.

This is a great device… I take my dog walking at night through woodland and he loves chasing the deer.. I can keep a close eye on where he is. Even though he always returns promptly, it gives me great piece of mind. You do need to be in a location with decent mobile data coverage, but I’ve never had issues.

Tractive customer service were very good as well when I recently had a query – quick to respond and helpful.

One thing to be wary of – you need to purchase a data plan up front for a year, rather than pay monthly – not sure this is very well described.. still a very useful product..

Bit fiddly the first few times you use it, particularly when tying it on to the dog’s harness and remembering to give it ages to charge up. Would prefer if the on/off switch was easier to use however it is quite amazing that you can see the route the dog has taken on your phone. A bit mind boggling really. For all the cost relatively speaking, I’m sure there are a few dog owners out there whose dogs have been lost in the countryside /out on the hills, who wish they had had one fitted to their doggie pal.

This is great when you can get a GPS signal and has given me piece of mind as I can now track where my dog is. It does struggle to pick up a signal at times which is frustrating and loses signal at certain points of the walk. For the money and if you are walking in open spaces away from woods, then recommend.

I have a dog which likes to wander and I have lost her on numerous occasions, luckily people see the number on her collar and ring me. I have a small holding and my dog likes to roam the fields freely, I can now track her movements accurately and hopefully never lose her. I have not encountered any signal issues yet even in my fields. I pay 79 a year this includes an insurance if the tracker becomes lost. But does require an additional subscription payment for 2G network access.
The software works generally quite well, albeit for one noticeable bug with inconsistent status “time last seen” when switching between main map and settings.
In my local area (Buckinghamshire, UK) the GPS & 2G signals are reliable and consistent; so far I have no black spots in coverage, including woodland areas.
Turning on Real Time updates works well: the software shows an accurate position, which should be enough to locate a missing pet (I hope).
    Overall 9/10.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI wasn’t impressed with this when I first tried it out as it was showing the tracker to be about a mile away from its actual location. An angry E-Mail to the customer services resulted in a prompt response with instructions to reset the tracker. I was also testing it indoors which is why I probably had the problem in the first place. I have been using it twice a day now for 8 weeks and must say it has been brilliant.
I didn’t have much faith in the clasp as it doesn’t look that secure but it hasn’t failed me yet and my furkid loves running through thick bushes and brambles so it has really been put to the test.
A full charge lasts us 2 days comfortably which is about 4 – 5 hours of usage.
The remote activation of the light and/or the beeper is a great function which enhances my confidence when walking our furkid off the lead at night which gives us more flexibility now the daylight is in shorter supply.
The other night my furid had gone off exploring and when I checked the map she was in a farmers field about a mile away. I activated the beeper and within a minute I could see her heading back to my location. If you associate the activation of the beeper with a reward it’s a great tool to assist with recall – especially over distances.
Top bit of kit and great value for money

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis device is absolutely fantastic, and I have often raved about it to other dog walkers I bump into. Being able to track my dog at any time whilst out for a walk using an app on my phone is perfect for my cheeky companion.

The battery lasts a full week before needing charged. The clip seems ample but is extremely sturdy, and the device itself is still going strong even after a year of constant use. Be warned that the securing clip is a single size and may not fit on thicker collars.

The only downside is that the app utilises mobile data to bring up the map and as such is futile in places of poor reception. Which are places I often like to take my dog!

He once saw a rabbit when out hillwalking and was gone for 2 hours. I waited for a while and couldnt get anything up on the app at all. Eventually I made my way to a farmers house and uses their wifi to track him, luckily he is a smart boy and he was already making his way back toward the car but being able to see his movements is a great peace of mind during those moments.

It would be great if the app had the option to function just on gps coordinates in the event of being away from a main data network but still a fantastic product.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersBought to keep track of my wayward spaniel who has developed a habit of breaking out of our garden and hunting wildlife. Being a spaniel, he is a hedge dweller, and I was worried the item wouldn’t work very well unless in open land Not so. This has worked extremely accurately on the two occasions we’ve had to track down the little blighter. The Live button (I think) sends more frequent GPS pings and we were getting spot on (within 10 metre) marks of where the dog was. I know this as we could see him running around and I was tracking him using the Tractive app on my iPhone. the only drawback is that you need to charge the device quite frequently. It would last two days, but we charge ours every night after the dog’s last visit to the garden. We do this in case he goes missing the following day so that we have as much charge as possible in the tracker. Have been very impressed so far. The device does occasionally need the contact points cleaning, especially if the dog has been somewhere muddy, but this is easily done with a nailbrush. we pay for the premium monthly service, which I understands gives you slightly better GPS tracking service.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOur small Jack Russell disappeared over the summer during a walk, we were lucky enough to get her back a few weeks later very thin and dehydrated but alive. She had got caught up in the local allotments and though she is microchipped this was useless when no one could find her. The huge worry of losing her again made us try this GPS tracker and after a few weeks of use it’s proving to be my best pet investment ever. She’s easy to find when she goes on a mad adventure after squirrels and the live function is awesome to know which corners of the fields/woods to whistle into. Not tested it in a great number of places yet but so far so good. Would have given it 5 stars if Tractive also sold a safe and comfortable way of securing it to my cat. At present, I am clipping it to a cat harness I bought, after removing the attached lead from it. No collar, I found, is suitable for this purpose. I also secure the device to the harness with a small amount of electrical insulation tape in case the clips fail and the device were to fall off the harness.
Apart from this one issue, the device is excellent, and gives us peace of mind that we can locate him, should he wander far.

Washed it and put a little vasoline on it works fine now. Keep it clean and free shouldn’t let you down. Just make shure that the button is slightly raised.. Tracking two dogs. Fitted the tracker on a harness so they are slightly on the side on top. Not to a collar as it will slip under neath the neck. I also drilled two holes in the 1.5mm and stitched on the harness make shure that it clicks tight you may have to pack the harness strap to make it tight. This I have sorted out in less than a week.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have had this for over a year now and am mostly very pleased with it. Once or twice the absence of a mobile data signal has let me down, but other than that, it does what it says on the tin and I am definitely more relaxed when walking my rabbit-obsessed terrier off-lead. The tracking has improved over the time I’ve had the device, and I reckon that is because I have paid for the premium subscription – which among other things uses the strongest phone signal it can find regardless of network. It’s not much more than the basic subscription, so I think it is worth it.

I’d add that the customer service from Tractive has been outstanding (there were quite a lot of issues with the device not connecting in the early days and they worked hard to sort it out for me, including over-the-air software updates).

Even when away in Canada we could see where she had been. The battery life is short maybe only a couple of days, it would be better to have two batteries as if the cat goes out when it is on charge you have no working device.
