A work of Art, but not playable.
It’s super cool, but the pieces wobble SOOOOOOO much that it’s impossible to have a serious game with it.. it’s so distracting with constant movements as the slightest touch causes every piece to wobble..
But it is a very cool show piece.. a work of Art really
I think this is the most beautiful looking chess set to have on display. As one other reviewer also had, I have 1 piece that doesn't sit perfectly upright. But it's not a big deal, since the squares on the board are curved. So it's easy to position the piece within the square (not noticeably off-centre), so that it sits upright nicely.

J’adore le principe de pices culbuto. Les pices sont belles et faciles distinguer les unes des autres. J’aime bien le ct culbuto qui met un peu de fun dans le jeu. La finition de l’chiquier est parfaite.

Purchased as a gift for my boyfriend. Absolutely love it! The pieces are weighted nicely and wobble amusingly. The board is thick and well-made with concave squares. Would buy again!

It’s an excellent design i spotted in chicago 5 years ago at architecture foundation but couldn’t buy. Congratulations to the designer who created such a wonderful idea, and to amazon who made it accessable. I will use it with pride when i welcome chess playing friends. But, it’s a fact that the set should be packed extremely well for unharmed delivery to the buyer, which it wasn’t. That’s probably why the board was cracked horizontally in one corner, under about 4 squares. This was apparent before opening the package since it obviously received an impact on one of the corners on the way. Well i like amazon and use all its branches every once in a while, but this is an important mistake, fortunately not writing off the set. I can’t be bothered dealing with exchanging the board even if someone says there is such an opportunity, since the corner seems solid enough, the squares are unharmed and crack wouldn’t propagate further. I will continue shopping with all amazons but will hope for undamaged products.

Absolutely fantastic, they do wobble and it is very hard to get them to fall down. The only con is that they do tilt off to the side instead of being perfectly upright. This is a little distracting but other than that it is a beautiful functional piece of artwork!

Dont doubt this – its really high quality and very surpriced!
It was lower than the original price but they could’ve still mentioned that it was used. For this reason I couldn’t give it 4 stars. Haven’t played with it yet but it doesn’t look as worn though. The sleeve to the box was ripped pretty bad and the box itself is flimsy. I wish the set came with an extra queen piece.
Had to come back and edit. The set does not deserve 3 stars. The box did come torn but it’s contents came in tact. Happy with my purchase. I keep the set on my end table.

Credo che per originalit, classe, eleganza e sensazione tattile sia al top tra le scacchiere.
I stumbled across this set by accident and knew I had to have one. It looks every bit as good as I hoped. Clearly high quality and beautifully designed. Each piece is like mini modern sculpture, as is the board with its wavy structure.
Looks like a painstaking product to construct.
Definitely one to leave on show and a smile inducing conversation piece. My daughter who is not a big chess fan, immediately wanted to have a couple of games and couldn’t leave the pieces alone.
The pieces look enough like regular Staunton style to not be distracting, although I did manage to confuse my Queen for my bishop in the first game!
Not the sort of thing to be moved on a regular basis, as it is quite heavy. Once everything starts wobbling it becomes a bit of a cabaret. It’s like carrying a shallow tray full of water.
The box and foam insert is very nice too, although because mine was a discounted Amazon Warehouse purchase, it was in less than perfect condition.
Only negative is that you’d don’t get an additional pair of Queens for pawn promotion. At this price I would expect that.
Would make an amazing gift for a chess player.

Looks good. Got as a Christmas presents for my husband who is learning how to play. It will look lovely in the whiskey room. Saw it initially in selfridges and he liked the look of it very quirkie

Bought this for our very wiggly seven year-old, who loves to play chess but often knocks pieces over accidentally. This has solved that problem completely! Our cats, on the other hand, think it might be a toy for them... :) Really well made; I expect it will be around long enough for our son to play with his children someday.

The wobble chess set looks like a piece of art. It really is as beautiful as the pictures show. Both the board and the pieces have quite a bit of heft to them. The pieces could cause damage if dropped or thrown, so I probably wouldn’t give them to very young children. I was worried the wavy tiles would make the game confusing to look at, but that’s not the case. The pieces wobble only briefly after being placed if the surface is stable. I only wish it came extra queens and knights and a case or box for the pieces.

Als begeisterter Schachspieler bin ich schon mehrfach auf dieses Produkt gestoen, wobei mich anfangs der Preis abschreckte. Doch irgendwann konnte ich mich nicht mehr zurckhalten – zum Glck. Das Spiel macht sich in meinem Wohnzimmer super!
Ich nutze es allerdings eher als Deko-Objekt. Zum wirklichen Spielen nutze ich dann doch lieber ein “flaches” Brett ohne Gewackel. Wenn man nmlich nicht alle Figuren geduldig austariert, sieht das Brett nicht hochwertig sondern nur chaotisch aus.

Beau, design et moderne, le plateau de jeu garde un cot naturel grce sa composition en bois. Le cot ondul du plateau lui donne un caractre “unique”.
J’avais une lgre crainte sur les parties chromes des pices, mais ce n’est finalement pas trop drangeant.
D’un point de vue pratique, l’utilisation n’a rien de plus complique qu’avec un plateau de jeu normal. Les pices sont parfaitement quilibres et ne tomberont pas, moins que vous n’agissiez en ce sens.
Au vu du poids des pices, je crains toutefois que de lgers coups ne viennent abimer le plateau de jeu sur le long terme. Je pense qu’un peu de dlicatesse restera de mise.
Je suis trs satisfait de cet achat.

The Umbra chess set is without a doubt the most beautiful purchase I have made this year. Not only is it gorgeous to look at, but it feels wonderful to the touch – the board is a constructed of individual pieces perfectly stuck together in an opposite pattern of not just colours, but also grain of the wood, the pieces have a smooth texture and are are weighed so they sit perfectly on the board, remaining in place even when spinning around their own axes.
The inherently lovely walnut wood produces the most delightful sound when the pieces touch.
All in all, this chess set is not only beautiful, but exquisitely put together. A gift for a lifetime.

I was looking for a more modern looking chess set for our family. Outside of spending $800 on a Man Ray set, this was the next best option! The wood quality is outstanding and the wobble feature is whimsical and fun. The only thing that would make it better is if it came with a box for travel, for now we use the box it came in which works. Highly recommend this set!

I first saw this set at a resort in the Maldives and really liked it. The set is well made with slightly subpar carving on the Knights
The queen base came unglued and I had to glue it
Similar to one of the the other reviewers here, same piece, same color, they might have some problem with the white queen bases during manufacture.
The colors are also quite similar to each other and it would have been good to have a darker wood for black, like ebony.
But on the whole, this is an excellent curio, a well made set and gives us a lot of pleasure while we use it and also when the set is lying on the coffee table unused
I gave this to my nephew as a gift and he loved it. A fun change from his traditional set. Pieces may wobble more then some may like.

Kids love the set – it looks so nice sitting on the table and it is made with a lot of quality
Love the product. One piece broke (t bottle wobbles on metal and the top wood part just fell off). I wrote several times asking for replacement part before I got a response. Was told to just glue it – $225 and that was the fix. Not cool. Now I need to go find some kind of glue and hope that hte glue I find is better than the glue the manufacturer used.

Sexy! And the pieces resemble their actual counterparts. Most custom boards have a learning curve just to memorize the new looks, this one doesnt.
The pieces doesnt stand 100% straight but it is pretty good though

The Wobble Chess Set by Umbra was a gift to my husband for his birthday. The set is beautiful! Also the company Umbra is first class. The provided set had a crack in the board. We contacted the company and they immediately send us a new one. First class customer service! The set is worth every penny.
Nice chess set and unique. Unfortunately I have had quite a bad experience with it so far. When I received the set a few of the pieces would not sit straight, especially the black king which was almost horizontal due to the non rounded, pointy base. I got in touch with Umbra via e-mail and after they asked for my shipping address and pictures, they are now giving me the run around. The set really looks pretty stupid if the pieces can’t stay straight. Because their were multiple, don’t be surprised if you get a few defective pieces as well. Very disappointed with Umbra and truthfully the rest of the build quality looks pretty cheep. Don’t expect what you see in the pictures.**UPDATE** Umbra sent me a brand new chess set to cover any defective pieces. Thanks Umbra! Changing my score of two stars to four.
This is probably about the only chessboard in existence that can be moved with no pieces falling over. Great design, a delight to look at and a lot of fun to play. I play with both of my kids and they have a lot of fun with it as well. I usually have to tell them to stop playing with pieces that are off the board so I can concentrate.
Very fine product, I wish if they have a smaller version through. This one is big an needs a large place to set in.

Dieses Schachspiel hatte ich schon lange im Auge, es war aber auf dem deutschen (Online-)Markt nicht erhltlich – und wenn, dann nur zu einem “sehr gehobenen” Preis. Die Figuren sind durch den Metall-Chrom-Fu schn schwer. Das Spiel ist durch das Design sehr extravagant und sicher ein Hingucker. Fr passionierte Schachspieler mag es vielleicht strend sein, dass die Figuren nach dem Spielzug oder bei Ansto wackeln, aber das ist ja auch das Besondere an diesem Design. Ich finde es zu dem wesentlich gnstigeren Preis, zu dem es bei Amazon zu haben war, seinen Preis auch wert.

i am only a casual chess player but i saw this at a local mall & marveled at the design. chess is a very static game, on one level boring but having pieces that wiggle & wobble makes the game more enjoyable. there are many fancy chess sets out there, but i now of no other that’s kinetic like this one.
i got this at a good deal from Amazon for $200. so i am happy with it. at the local mall, it sold for $300.
