I’ve had quite good success, identifying cables in my house – I found which coax cable in my loft was my tv aerial and which was my satellite cable, which was handy.
I’ve tried it for tracing wires in a vehicle loom and it’s less handy – there’s a lot of cross-talk between the wires, which means they pretty much all had the test signal on them by the time I was a couple of metres down the loom.
It’s no Fluke, but then, it didn’t cost me four hundred quid…
Having run new fire resistant cabling through on a new extension with multiple lighting circuits. I was highly annoyed when I discovered that the plasterer had cut back my cabling which I had marked to enable me to identify which cable ran to a which
section of lights.
However, all was not lost as dropped down each row of lights attached the wires of the Network cable tester to the earth and neutral and used the wire tracker to find which cable ran to which set of lights. 8 sets later I had identified all of the cables which terminated at the on/off switch, they of course were all dead at this point.
This got me out of a bit of a hole and saved me a heap of time. So this product isn`t just for RJ45 cable but can be used in other smart ways too. I have also used it when fault finding in offices and it has already paid for itself a hundred times over. Perfect item to have in my tool bag, well worth the money.
Works like it is supposed to. Instructions a little vague
It’s good but will not detect signal throught thinking and is easily distracted buy other signal wiring.
Don’t be put off. I use this in the automotive field so I needed to make sure everything is disconnected including battery so the signal that is generated from equipment is pure.
No surprises as to what I received compared to what was advertised. It works just as well as similar products for sale that are 10x the price
I purchased this to find a missing data cable and I was able to find the exact location of where the cable was damaged as it can pick the tone up from behind the plasterboard. Worth it’s weight in gold for the amount of time it saves you on the job looking for cables that cowboys have put in with no labels
Great bit of kit for the money. The polarity / sequence tester is a nice addition. The headphones aren’t particularly comfortable but the 3.5mm jack means you can use any standard wired headphones with the tester.
Absolutely spot on for the money, saved me a good few hours of investigation by using this tool.
Certainly helped trace single coax in a bunch of cables over 80m long.

Excellent does what its spouses to do. I had similar one before which got pinched by someone so bought this one and it works and does well what its meant to. No negative comments, other than it doesn’t come with batteries while most others do
The finding function worked well to help me identify the CAT6 cable from my living room to my utility room.
The instructions for the separate wire testing are not great.
Habe das Gert fr die Leitungsfindung von NYM auf einer Trockenbaudecke genutzt – Funktioniert super, teilweise htte das Gert etwas sensibler sein knnen, aber insgesamt brauchbar.
Auf jeden Fall die beigelegten Ohrstpsel nehmen, so hrt man das Signal deutlich besser.
Fr den Preis absolute 5 Sterne – Wrde ich wieder kaufen.
This is excellent value for money. The build quality is adequate but frankly reflects the price point. In use, it accurately detects a single cable from a bundle.
I used the device to identify cables from a bundle of 24 Cat5e cables. I would divide the bundle in two, scan each side, identify the side with signal, and repeat the process.
Note the signal strength varies quite significantly with distance, so moving along the Cat5e as the pair gets closer and further away due to the cable geometry can be useful as a final check.
The built in cable tester means that you can verify the result with minimum trips to the remote end.

It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty decent and has helped me out quite a bit when wiring Ethernet cables.
The power detection is a bit hit and miss I’ve found. It will trigger around plug sockets and light switches even when the fuse and RCD for them is off. I’ve found myself using an electrical driver to just double check things, as I don’t trust it. It’s also not as accurate as an actual wire scanner, but I didn’t expect it to be.
The kit contains a few other bits and pieces but I’ve not used these yet. I think it rest depends on what you needed it for. Primarily I wanted it for fault finding when cabling cat6 around the house, which it does well.
I bought this device to trace some cut off cables in my house which were left by the builders disconnected.
The device comes with handy instructions and is very easy to use. Can trace RJ45 and RJ11 cables with ease to see where they connected and if they are live.
Batteries are included. Good value for money and adequate quality product.
Attach the crocodile clips to a dead electric cable and with the tracker, holding down the button, you can find out what electrical accessories are on a circuit and where the wires go. Saves time.
Comes in a soft case that is OK except perhaps it is a little too large to fit efficiently into a tool bag/box. Could have done with something a little more compact. But, as I tend to do with all such devices, A thick woolly sock does the job as well and takes up little space.
Also comes with a set of ear phones that allows you to hear the bleeps more clearly, especially if working in a noisy environment.

I spend hours trying to trace a birdsnest of network wiring through my home/office; seeking an elusive problem. I eventually gave up and ordered this product.
From the parcel arriving at my door, I diagnosed and fixed the problem in about 10 mins – including reading the instructions!
I just connected the sender at one end of a cable, then waved the receiver around the far end until I heard the tone and located the cable and the connection problem.
I don’t know how robust/reliable this kit is in the longer term, but I was happy to pay just to fix this one problem

Great piece of Kit for any IT professional and i find it sometimes more accurate than more expensive cable testers. I mainly use it for the probe and it hasn’t let me down yet.

Good tone tester. Works well and has a nice case with it. I’ve not used the additional cables in it as I only use it for tracing network cables but overall a good product with no frills.

This little helper, quickly helps you to identify the right telephone/network wire, by connecting emitter to one end and receiver to another. Saves a lot of time and hassle. A must have equipment for IT engineer!
This product has proven itself very useful and works wonderfully I have used it to test if data cables are working correctly and it is quite accurate, it comes with a nice compact case which keeps it very safe . The crocodile clips are very handy and can’t wait to use them, delivery was on time and nothing was damaged
