Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a very good PSU that provides a well regulated and electrically noise-free PSU

The PSU moves from the constant voltage (at less than the max specified current) smoothly into a constant current (dropping the voltage to limit the current). So as they say, “it does exactly what it says on the tin”.

There are some electrical benefits of this PSU that may not be immediately obvious:

    1. Voltage can be set with the device under test (DUT) connected (but without power applied
    2. PSU can also be isolated from the DUT quickly e.g. if something “goes wrong” when you are testing
    3. Constant current can be set without needing to disconnect the DUT and connect the crocs together
    4. Two “locks” are engaged/disengaged by “long pressing” the current or voltage knob
    5. There is a “lock” light to confirm that a lock was set or removed
    6. PSU case is earthed for safety but the output is “floating” e.g. the output isn’t grounded
    7. With a second PSU you can create a dual PSU e.g. -5V – + 5V @ 5A
    8. Set each digit individually or let it roll over or clear e.g. 5.99 becomes 6.00
    9. Resets to 0 or max with a twist e.g. select ‘5’ and 5.00V –> 0 –> 12.6V (logical and easy)
    10. First of two “locks”: press and “long hold” in the voltage knob. A lock symbol appears. If the PSU was displaying OFF then after a power failure the supply stays OFF. If ON, it comes back ON (logical and easy)
    11. Second of two “locks”: press and “long hold” in the current knob. A lock symbol appears. This locks and unlocks the PSU so that small fingers (children) can’t adjust the PSU e.g. turn up the voltage
    12. Ripple and regulation are also very well controlled (I have not seen a better example of consumer PSU)

Mnemonic: long press of the “voltage” knob sets the “voltage” after a power outage e.g. ON or OFF.
Mnemonic: long press of the “current” knob keeps the “current” voltage/current setting

These are logical and easy e.g. if you know that the output is OFF before setting the “voltage” lock and the “current” lock is either locked or it isn’t – simply click the current knob and confirm it is locked/unlocked.

5A supply is enough for most electronics uses e.g. using more than 5V @ 5A or 12.6V at 5A would be unusual. For higher power, there is also a 10A version. Although two PSU can make a -12V – 0 – 12V @ 5A, two PSU cannot be joined to make a single supply 12V @ 2x 5A = 10A because up to 10A (or a preset current) is OK but the constant current cannot adjust correctly. For this, it would be better to use one PSU for up to 5A and a second PSU for up to 5A to separately connected pairs of equipment. One PSU controlling a 2nd PSU (master-slave) would be very unusual and require an additional “control” connection.

Three “test” scenarios (all easy and logical to setup):

    1. 12.6V @ 3A PSU. Current limited to 3A, voltage is locked and PSU resumes after a power failure
    2. 5V @ 5A PSU. Current is initially limited to 5A, voltage/current is variable and PSU shuts down after a power failure
    3. 24V (negative) – 0 – 24V (positive) @ 2A dual PSU e.g. for an amplifier (requires TWO PSU)

In case you were in doubt, I like the 5A PSU very much and ordered a second 10A PSU as well.

Lovely bit of equipment! Dead easy to use, and very accurate, one of my favourite bits of kit
Great value and compact. I love it! Buy one! 🙂

I have made a number of my own PSU’s and all have been transformer based and weighed a ton (slight exaggeration) so it was nice to get something this light. It works well and looks to give accurate readings. So far I have only tested it at 2 Amps but it holds the volts steady. Great for project work. The instructions could have been printed in larger text as I had to balance a second pair of glasses on my reading glasses to read them..

I wanted a “proper” power supply and this was perfect for the job.

Not too big and a really neat little unit

I designed a cable holder to clip in the top just to keep the cables attached but tidy

Great little desktop / workbench supply

Only had for a day. So far so good. Will add more to this review as time goes on.

Four stars at the moment though as the case is not grounded. Someone has written that the chassis is properly earthed… But it isn’t earthed whatsoever. I have rectified this on my unit to make it safer.

Yep, can’t complain. Does the job nicely. Thanks. Doesn’t get too warm either.

There’s no information on the manual about C.C/C.V modes and conditions for them. Otherwise no problems during 3 months of me having i

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersI’m surprised at how well this is put together. Metal chassis, properly grounded, and the main circuit board is quite neatly designed (though I would’ve liked a little more low/high voltage separation and there’s only one small spark gap). For around fifty quid? Totally usable. Stable and accurate voltage and amperage. You need a magnifying glass to read the manual but it does an adequate job of explaining what the functions of the rotary encoders do.

I only give it four stars because the capacitors inside are a bit suspect. JWCO aren’t exactly quality, and I’ve never heard of “Mscon” before; I can only assume they have fake Marcon branding. Given how nice this power supply is overall I’d recap it with something from KMET, Panasonic and/or Nichicon if you plan to keep it for longer than a few years.

    Surprisingly good

I like the fact that it has two power buttons. One main switch and another for the output. And that the coupling can be done to bare wires. The configuring procedure seemed weird at the beginning, but that just because I have another power supply with knobs.

Golden Review Award: 27 From Our UsersThe Hanmatek HM305 has a very small foot print and fit nicely into the corner of my test bench. The display is nice and bright and the dials are accurate and feels nice and easy to adjust. To change settings for Voltage and Current just press the dial once and then turn the dial. Press again will move the adjusting digit to the left etc.

I have tested it with my inverter on the bench for 20 minutes running max 5A, the fan will come on when it sense internal temperature is hot. Overall the bench DC worked as it should, could do with a longer kettle lead but 1m is ok as power socket is never too far from my test bench anyway.

Slim body easily fit onto any small space

Fantastic little 150w lab supply. I have some high power (4aH) Nicads nothing would charge. This did the job! Only slight gripe is the time you have to turn the setting knob after selecting the digit to change. It’s about 1 second before it times out! But a minor gripe that is overcome with some practice!

Controls are really easy to get the hang of, just press in the voltage knob to adjust voltage, same for current. Press again to fine adjust digit by digit. Easy to get used to and very simple.

Does exactly what it needs to. So far (day 1) a great bench supply.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI was (perhaps unfairly) skeptical about the quality of the unit as the price is very favourable. However, having now tested it I’m actually impressed. It’s nicely put together, and there’s a good tactile feel to the controls. Programming is precise and the user interface very straight-forward. The plugs/cables are perhaps a little low-end but perfectly good enough for the power range within which the unit will operate. As far as I can tell, the output voltages and currents are as set with good tolerance.

    Happy to recommend.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThe power supply is smaller than expected which makes it easy to use and fit on a table. The included alligator wires are long enough to reach most projects without excess wire, and it was able to supply the power selected with great accuracy when measured with a multi meter. It takes time to get used to how to adjust the output as you must click the dials in to select which digit to adjust before you can change it. The included output toggle let’s you adjust the voltage and current limits without any power output, it also includes a lock on the toggles for additional security. The main power button is located on the front of the device rather than on the rear making it easy to switch off when not in use. The only downside of the power supply is that there is no earth terminal on the front of the device however this isn’t an issue for most hobbyist applications.
