Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe AIRTHINGS arrived well packaged with comprehensive instructions; downloading of the app and connecting the sensor was painless and easy.

When I extinguished a couple of lit candles in my living room, the sensor went orange! The sensor for the Airthings-292 Wave is in my bedroom. At the same time the MEDIFY air cleaner in my living room where the candles were went on “red”. A proven point how well this gadget works! Checking the air quality on the app showed an increase in VOC. Besides that it shows the room temperature, moisture percentage, possibility of mold building, as well as pollen count for my zipcode (seasonal).

I have 2 smaller but efficient air cleaner in my bedroom (no sensor) and the WAVE definitely showed it is working the way it’s supposed to.

While this AIRTHINGS does not remedy any air quality issues, it indicates problems and definitely helps keep me healthy.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersEasy to link to your phone to get readings, and easy to use. With that being said, the write up leads one to believe that it will check for mold, which is why I purchased it. This product does NOT do that. It checks for other air quality issues but will only tell you if conditions may be right for mold to form, not if mold is present.

I was looking to add an air sensor to check on air quality for my basement office. I found good reviews on this unit and so far it has worked great! You can sync via the mobile app and view data from there or you log into the web dashboard to see the results as well. It gives nice options for seeing historical data and I like that for the sake of comparison.

I also wanted to shout out their support. I accidentally knocked over the sensor and broke the stand. Their support found an extra one and just shipped it to me right away, no questions asked. This was done just via their live chat service.

I’ve put this all around my house and we’ve had professionals come in to look at the one spot where it said we had mold and it was correct. This may have literally saved my life.

I already own a wave plus, and the mini synced to my app with little effort. Now I can see both, and it works great. For the money, I really wish it did slightly more. The mold risk indicator is a little odd and pointless. Mine reads 1, which makes sense because the bedroom its in struggles with slightly above normal humidity. But common sense also works, I don’t need a risk indicator lol.

If I could choose one thing to add it would be CO2 monitoring like my wave plus. But there’s no way I’m spending that much money for a second wave plus.

A voir dans les prochains mois si a fonctionne vraiment !

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI have 4 Airthings Wave Minis and 1 Airthings ViewPlus to monitor air quality in my newly built home. I was concerned about air quality as I made my home very airtight and energy efficient. Primary concern was VOC’s and temperature variations throughout the home. There are 4 in-floor heating zones monitored by 4 Nest Thermostats for the floor heating and a total of 13 Fujitsu mini split cassettes. In a newly built home, you have many potential sources of VOC’s including caulk, paint, stain, glues, etc. as well as unknown carbon dioxide (I have 8 Nest Protects to monitor CO) and radon.

Results of about a year of use: I was surprised when the particulates got high during fire season and I placed 3 Winix air cleaners which run continuously and keep the PMs low or below detectable levels. You can see the PMs get lower as the air cleaners run.
Since the house was open quite a bit during the “extended” build time, VOC’s from building materials had mostly gone away. What was interesting were the VOC’s from human occupancy.

I spent over 45 years using NIST-traceable temperature data loggers, radiation detection and assay equipment, timing devices, etc and even visited the NIST facilities in Maryland getting a radioactive source calibrated against a primary standard. At that time, it was still the National Bureau of Standards.
Accuracy Question: I know from years of experience that unless you can verify the accuracy of a device using either a certified testing lab or your own NIST-traceable equipment, you can only rely on the reputation of the manufacturer (just like the mfr claims of dietary supplements and disinfectants). Airthings has a great reputation so I’ll have to go with that.

Pros: 1) Can view all monitors on the Airthings app on your phone (provided you have a hub).
    2) Airthings reputation.

Cons: 1) Need to purchase an expensive hub unless you can walk around and read the devices via Bluetooth OR you have an Airthings ViewPlus which has a hub built-in-which I have.
    2) No carbon monoxide detector.

Bottom Line: I believe Airthings are the best consumer devices available. Since we have to rely on the manufacturer’s reputation for the claims they make on the device measurement accuracy, Airthings is one of the best so I chose their devices.

If you are struggling with checking your home’s air quality, this is a great way to get started. This product is super easy to setup and utilize. You must have a smart device with Bluetooth to monitor this device, but once it is up and running, it offers peace of mind, knowing you can check for dangers in your air quality. Easy to place in any room, and no bothersome lights to keep you up at night. This model is not WiFi, and is battery operated.

Compact, good battery life so far, app easy to use so you can compare results over different timeframes (and across different devices if you had more than one). I find it fine to just use Bluetooth when nearby to upload readings.

Great mini pods to add to an existing Airthings monitoring system. Easy to set up and add the product to your profile on the Airthings app. Good for cooler/damp basement rooms to get a mold risk reading. Easy to install (I used Gorilla 2 sided tape instead of screws) and move to other rooms once you have a good set of data.

Very easy to setup and use. Also price is amazing for what it does. The temperature and humidity readings are spot-on with other manual ways I have measured to cross check… Unfortunately I don’t know if the air quality option is accurate since I have no way to cross check. But I trust it based on reviews and company history. Again, great price not a greedy company.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersBought two wave minis to monitor humidity and vocs. Easy to set up and use. Tried them both side by side to see how accurate they were. Both monitors were very close. I did see I had a problem with vocs. After investigating what could be the problem air quality has greatly improved. Two monitors cost me around $200 on sale as compared to an one time indoor air quality assessment from a large company was between $2500-$3000. Although it is not as in depth as the more expensive option it still helped the air quality greatly.

Have no way of determining its accuracy, but assuming that it does what its supposed to do, it is nice to be able to see a metric of the air quality. In fact, my air quality started to drop in the winter, so I looked and it wasn’t the TVOC that was the issue, it was the humidity, which reminded me that I had been meaning to get a humidifier add on to my central heating system.

I rarely write product reviews but was so impressed with the Airthings detectors that I wanted to share my experience. Initially, I purchased a few mold and radon detectors and they worked great. Very easy to set up and quite accurate. Soon, I had a decent number of mold and radon detectors and so I decided to get a hub to connect these devices and to allow continuous monitoring and access remote access. Overall, these devices have worked flawlessly and have really added to our ability to continuously monitor for environmental problems in our home. Also, customer service has been outstanding. Very responsive to questions and very proactive with follow-up. 5-stars all around.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usersbelow is a similar review I posted for for wave plus

I was originally looking just for a smart radon tester before I installed a radon mitigation system and found the airthings wave system.

at first I purchased the home kit which comes with a older wave 2nd gen, the hub and mini wave from Amazon warehouse (openbox). I had some issues with the hub as it was already registered and didn’t want to mess with support who wasn’t available 24/7 and ended up returning everything .

during the initial setup I also (wrongly assumed) that the units would be WiFi/Ip based but the stand alone sensors only work via bluetooth or via radio with the hub. also without the hub the data isn’t constantly recorded .

I then ordered this new sensor wave plus, 2 mini waves and the hub (quite costly). setup was a breeze, unbox the sensors, download the app, register for an account, connect the sensor via bluetooth to your phone , update firmware and it’s readym Then you plug in your hub add to the sensors to the hub via your phone.

With the wave2 the radon level was high (as suspected as ally neighbors got their radon level tested professionally for 150 bucks . What I didn’t expect was the co2 and VOC levels to be high in the house as well as high humidity levels in the basement.

the co2 we were able to lower by opening windows and airing out the house, and humidity levels controlled with a dehumidifier in the basement.

As far as the VOC i started looking into UV lights in the hvac and ultimately ended up with a Airscrubber by aerus installed from my hvac guy.

after the airscrubber and hvac fans running the airthings wave sensor picked up the improvements.

the web dashboard also is has a lot better data and is easier to see track historical data than the app as the app will show you real time stats we well as historical but can’t zoom in on the data or set a custom time frame (zoom in).

also the wave mini has mold detection but the wave plus does not and the wave plus (primarily for radon) has co2 detection but the mini does not so would like a unified sensor even if it cost more as well as the ability to have wifi (although this will prob drain the battery)

I’d also like an option of hardwiring the sensor similar to a smoke detector and alert/push notifications for user or presets thresholds so I don’t have to constantly monitor.

overall great product but will make you think about how to improve the air quality after seeing the data 🙂

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersMy initial review was negative. I bought two to try to triangulate where smoke was entering my apartment. After getting strange results I put them right next to each other, and they were still showing different information.

I reached out to support. They acknowledged the issue and informed me that they had a firmware update that would fix it. They checked in with me a few times to ensure that after the update things were going well. Unfortunately I had to return one, so I haven’t been able to cross check them with the new firmware.

It’s now been almost 6 months. Using the airthings I was able to find where the smoke is getting in.

The app is garbage still. It often can’t sync and I have to kill it to make it work. Pretty sure it’s tied to Bluetooth. It freaks out if Bluetooth is off when you start the app and doesn’t appear to recover until killed and started with Bluetooth on. The graphs in the app are garbage. Options for scale are 48h, 1 week, 1 month, and 1 year, and you can’t pan the graph. It’s stupid enough to just average the quality for those ranges. That means you can only see spikes from the last 48 hours, because they average out on higher time frames. It should give a triple graph with high, average, and low values. You should be able to select a section of the graph in the past and zoom into it. Nope. For no reason at all air quality is hugely tied to air temperature. Cold day, air quality is red? That’s dumb.

I’m going to try to get another TVOC monitor to cross check this. So far it’s not a con, because I can’t check it, but I’m wary of it after the two I initially got didn’t check out.

    Pros:
-battery life, still at 96% after almost 6 months
    -size
-seems to be measuring correctly now
-can download all the data through website
    -good support

    Cons:
    -terrible app
    -terrible terrible app
-only resolves to like 5 minutes, should be able to set it down to 5 seconds and use more battery

This item arrived safe and well packaged.
I switched this on as soon as it arrived and positioned it within my living room. It was lovely and small so easy to hide on a shelf. Downloading and connecting to the app took just a few moments. It takes a couple of days to calibrate, so there is very little information right away. But keep checking back over the next few days and things start to look a little different. The sensor is able to analyse the air in your room and give you loads of information. I was particularly impressed by the was it can sense nasties in the air. Luckily I had a low read out for this, but it does make you stop and think!
    I highly recommend this product.

Interesting little gadget that is run entirely from the app over bluetooth. Easy to set up and pair with our phones (both android) and it started doing its thing pretty much immediately. Not quite sure how or what it does exactly but it’s giving a bit of peace of mind to see that green light on the unit stays green. Hope the novelty of checking it wears off eventually because we’re checking it umpteen times a day so far…

This air quality monitor is portable and very easy to use and set up. You just pair it with your phone and its user interface is almost entirely with the app. The device itself has a coloured light (hopefully green) which shows up when you tap it. I like it because it is simple to move and you can take it with you. It also stores the time series of TVCOs so you can see how the air quality varies over a substantial period. We also have a air purifier in our living room which has not been working for a while as the filter had run out. However I am ordered a new one and it will be interesting to see what difference it makes. Air quality is an issue as we live very near two A roads and have a major airport within 20 miles.

I have owned the Corentium Home Radon Detector by Airthings for over 2 years, and I really like it. For that reason, I thought I would also like this Airthings Indoor Air Quality monitor. Unfortunately, the Air Quality Monitor is significantly different than the Radon Detector. With the Radon Detector, you can readily see the readings on the actual device … you don’t need an app to view the readings, and on your phone. With the Indoor Air Quality Monitor, you must download the app and register an account in order to view the readings (and on your phone only). I would have really liked if there were actual readings on the device itself. As it is now, you have to wave your hand in front of the device (and the light is either green, yellow or red). My Radon Detector is very accurate, so I am assuming that this device is equally as accurate.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersIt’s a small unit, which annoyingly connects via bluetooth rather than wifi. I’ve had air quality monitors before and found out later that they only monitor CO2 concentrations- if it gets too high, you should open a window and let the other nasties out too.
This does claim to monitor TOTAL volatile organic compounds. However as industrial detectors measure in 3 bands according to molecular mass, this is going to be a fudge. It may be that the band that causes you irritation is the one that isn’t measured. Ultimately, you either open a window, turn on an air purifier or cut down on plastics, composite woods and scented household cleaners (especially citrus as it degrades to formaldehyde). I’m therefore a bit unsure if this unit helps or is just a safety blanket.

I am not by any means qualified to test the technical aspects of this device as the leaflet included in the box states that the instrument is tested and quality assured. It meets the accuracy values set out in the specifications.
This review is for Airthings Wave Mini Indoor Air quality monitoring device. I am just going to review this product and talk about what I have learnt from the reading it provides on daily basis.

Device comes in a nice packaging and looks like Amazon Dot. The built quality is excellent and it comes with full instructions which can be found online too.

Installation is easy just download Airthings Wave Mini App from App store, in my case Google Play Store. You have to create an account which is simple just email and password, no other details required.

Pull out the battery protection tab and the green light should comes on. In my case it didn’t so I had to replace three AA size batteries. I am surprised that a new item with plastic tab covering the batteries comes with flat batteries. Anyways after that I enabled my bluetooth on my Samsung Galaxy phone and straight away the device started to initiate Air Quality censor calibration process which will complete in 7 days.

I am on day 5 and every day I check my App for Air quality updates. It is reassuring to know that quality of air inside my Sitting room is all green. I will continue to monitor one room at a time for 7 days to obtain average reading to assess if there is anything to be concerned about. Reason I was eager to test this device on Amazon vine program is that I have moved into a new built house couple of years ago and I was wondering if they used any toxic material or landfills material was buried under these 144 new buildings. I have respiratory problems hence it is important to stay away from toxic chemicals, gas and fumes.

As you can see from the screen shots posted above all the readings so far are green and I am very happy with this.

Thank you Airthings Wave company or seller for offering my this product for free as I didn’t know these things are affordable and portable size. I would have happily paid the full price if I had to buy it.

If you are living in a confined space or in congested areas or moved into a new built home, I would urge you to buy it and make sure you are not exposed to anything that can have bad consequences over a long period of time.

5 Stars from me, highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis Airthings Wave Monitor Mini Air Quality Monitor does exactly what it says and has the fancy Online App to break things down a bit but the thing is is, I already have this Wave Air Quality Monitor in my Air Cleaner. The only difference is my Air Cleaner doesn’t have an App to compare Dates and Times. The Monitor in my Air Cleaner seems to be quicker at knowing the Air is bad too.
I would say that if you have The Wave Plus System, or you don’t have an Air Cleaner, as I do, then this is good to have. I definitely believe it’s a Smart thing to monitor your Air somehow.
    I hope this is helpful!

So awhile back I had some concerns about the air in my home… I bought a handheld meter and found out that, sure enough, we had some air quality issues. I bought several air purifiers and set out on a quest to improve our environment. Now I feel much more confident, but I also know that diligence is key. Air issues can creep up on you from cleaners, paints, building supplies, etc. That’s what i like about this meter… it’s a continuous monitor. Instead of taking manual readings when I remember to do it, I can leave it in our living room and simply pull up the app when I want to verify that all is well… then i can look back over time and see what the trend has been. Also, a wave of the hand over the front and itll flash a green light to show that all is well at the moment.

It’s small an unabtrusive. Pairing was a piece of cake and the output on the phone includes tvoc’s, humidity and temperature. (As a musician, I have some instruments that will benefit from my ability to monitor humidity). My handheld meter distinquishes between formaldehyde and other voc’s. This one just reads total voc’s, but that’s okay. If i should come across a bad reading, i could then pursue a breakdown of the source. The important thing for me, is to continuously minitor.

I think I may pick up a couple more of these for other rooms in the house.

    Easy setup - continuous monitoring

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersPositives:
+ Elegant aesthetic design. Completely unobtrusive sitting on a shelf.
+ Elegant engineering design, down to the finest details (like having a magnetic clasp for the battery compartment, rather than the usual plastic tabs).
+ Incredibly simple and intuitive setup. Probably the fastest and easiest setup of any smart home sensor I’ve used (and I’ve installed a lot of different sensors).
+ Simple, intuitive interface: All the information you want, at a glance, without any display junk.
+ Temperature and humidity readings are accurate (i.e., they agree with all my other sensors) and sensitive (respond quickly to changes).
+ The “wave for a quick status check” is a pretty cool interface innovation.

    Negatives:
    – Bluetooth connectivity, not WiFi. The sensor must sync with a local device (phone, tablet) before the data is available in the cloud. That means you can only use this Bluetooth sensor for spaces you’re in, not for remote monitoring. In other words, this device is for actively monitoring the air quality of the space you’re living in, not for remote monitoring of, e.g., a vacation home when you’re not there.
    – If your reading is high, you’ll have a challenge figuring out why (carpet? mattress? cleaning supplies? other? all of the above?). Ridding your home of all possible sources of VOCs is probably a noble ideal, but a challenge to implement.
    – Since there are no EPA standards for indoor residential VOCs, it’s hard to know what the various readings on this device really mean in terms of health issues and risk (the U.S. EPA site says “No federally enforceable standards have been set for VOCs in non-industrial settings”). I wish Airthings provided more data why it set its cutoffs where it did (i.e, why is a certain VOC level determined to indicate “average” air quality?) and the health risks associated with different levels. On most sensor devices, a yellow light is an indication of caution or concern, but this device goes from green to yellow at a pretty low level, at least according to German environmental standards (which are the best data I’ve been able to find).

    Question Marks:
? For temperature and humidity I can calibrate this device relative to other sensors. But I have no way of knowing how accurate the VOC readings are. Having said that, I have faith in this brand, since I’ve calibrated readings from multiple of their devices over the past couple of years (including a radon monitor) and found them to be spot on. So, I trust them, even if I can’t independently verify the VOC readings.

Bottom line: If you’re concerned about VOCs in the space you live in, this simple sensor will either confirm your VOC levels or put your mind at rest. It only does one thing, but it does it well. Elegantly designed product from a company with a good track record. If you find you have high VOCs (by Airthings standards), things get trickier, due to lack of federal standards and the difficulty of finding the source of the VOCs. I wish I could set the thresholds on this device (it goes from green to yellow at too low a level for me), but once you get used to reading the actual levels in the dashboard (and ignoring the color coding) the color coding doesn’t matter as much.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe members of my family all have very sensitive airways. 2 best be aware of any allergens or possible toxicity in the air, this little device measures air quality, humidity, and temperature. I’m a researcher so data always helps me understand the environment and then I can make decisions of how I would like to make any changes. This takes 7 days to calibrate. you do have to download an app, which takes no time at all. Then, through Bluetooth you’ll link your phone. When you’re near the device, you wave your hand in front of it and a little. Will light up in the middle of it telling you the quality of the air. For example, if it’s green, they are quality is good. I’m impressed with this small and informative device!

The air monitor is very small. You get a reading from the monitor by waving your hand in front and it give a green, yellow or red light. To see the specifics you download the app on you phone. It gives the specifics.

I have an Airthings Wave Radon monitor for my basement and it has worked generally well for the last 6 months. I thought I would try out the mini Air Quality Monitor to see how the air quality in my house rates. Setup was easy with the Airthings app finding and pairing to the Wave Mini quickly and easily. Now I have both the radon and air quality monitors listed in my iPhone application. The monitor uses the first 7 days to calibrate the sensors. During that time it still gives you a reading of air quality, humidity and temperature. The Mini monitor is very small and you can place it around your house. The one negative so far is the stand for the monitor. I guess you could not use the stand and lay the monitor on a flat surface but I have the stand attached and it is very flimsy. It is easy to tip the monitor over if you touch it when it is using the stand. A redesign or general improvement of the stand is needed in my opinion.

My house air quality shows good but we haven’t done any work inside the house such as painting, new carpet, or polishing of furniture. Will be interesting to see how the quality would change when using house cleaners, dusting, or painting. With a lot of chemical potentials in a home, this is a reasonable air quality monitor that gives you some insight into how the air in your home is rated.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSoooo…originally I ordered a more expensive cone shaped model of one of these air monitors during Prime Days summer sale. I’d been wanting one for quite awhile then after reading a book on air quality that mentioned the other brand by name, went ahead and ordered the $200 item. It didn’t work correctly since it would NOT sync with my wifi signal or bluetooth. After returning it I was given an opportunity to test out this one which sells for less than half the price of the other. Here are my thoughts after using both.
First – set up on this was a BREEZE. I spent about 10 minutes total on this one…well over 2 hours on the former model. This gets high marks for easy set-up.
Size-once again, high marks. This is a tad smaller than an echo dot device – it easily fits anywhere and travels well. The other model was cone shaped and a bit bulky if you wanted to take along. This is flat, sits easily on nearly any surface and has a slight magnetic backing that doesn’t work all that well but will keep it from flying around on some surfaces.
The measurements. This doesn’t measure quite as much as the other but it does most of it…TVOC and PPM are the two most people will want to have on hand and this does both.
Viewing Results. Here is where it gets tricky. The expensive monitor has a quick view function that did require a scroll but can be accessed at a glance without the app….which was good since the app won’t work on anything above a 2gz connection. Not all functions were available -several require the app that wouldn’t work or connect….and fails entirely even with dual band. Okay so the expensive one records more and parts of the data can be seen without logging into the app…but for full functionality you still need to log in. This one requires log in to see ANY/ALL data. The ONLY way to view results is via app which is a bit annoying. Also, the device itself is so streamlined and small that I totally forget about it…I forget to recharge, I forget to use it. Without looking at the display, it’s hard to remember it at all.
Results – when first setting up this will tell you that it requires a week of readings to generate reliable results…very annoying. It does present some results within about 30 minutes – vs instantly for the other – but does get better over time. ALL results were in keeping with the ones from the other device.
Bottom line – setup is smooth, operation seamless, measures the most important items. Negatives are app only display/data but provides a well functioning set. Would I buy it again – yes. Would I prefer more quick look display on the device itself – absolutely. Add a visual to the device and this is my preferred pick all the way around!

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersAfter watching a British TV show called Grand Designs where a couple built a custom house in London with almost no VOCs (which until I saw this show I’d never heard of) because their two children had chronic asthma with around four chronic attacks a month. The attacks were so severe even the hospital was at its wit’s end. After they moved into the new house one child had just one attack in the first 6 months and the other had none. If you don’t know about VOCs you should act now. Being able to monitor our indoor air quality atfter cooking and vacuuming and opening windows is like x-raying the health of your house. Sincerest thanks
