As a newbie in the “action camera” market I believe this product to be fanastic bang for the buck. The 4k 30fps provides impressive video quality tied with the image stabilization.

    Fantastic budget action camera

An all round good product, bought to record family events. The camera is ideal as it’s small compared with an old camera we had.
The camera functions well, getting around the settings is easy. The camera seems durable. Great camera for the price.

This camera was bought for an upcoming skiing trip and has been used a few times since purchasing for fun and testing purposes.

I was initially impressed with what the camera could do, with a healthy list of features and good specs to give users plenty of options when out in the field using the camera. It does take 4k quality photos with video to match, and even though it’ll not do 4k at high FPS, for the average person this really wont matter!

I enjoyed using the slow-mo modes to take fun little videos as well as some great action shots with the remote control, and in the end it really isn’t any trouble to use once you get the hang of it. I’m sure people may complain about the stabilisation and maybe the build quality being lower (the camera itself isn’t waterproof), but the number of accessories that come bundled with the camera offers an amazing level of mounting options, plus it comes with a waterproof case! While it can’t record audio through the case this is a great accessory to include right off the bat and for the price point I really couldn’t ask for anything more!

If you’re in need to a nice action camera with some bonus features, this is a really nice option. Highly recommended!

Great little camera, I’ve bought it replace my old underwater camera, but it does so much more. I’ve been testing it in light and dark situations. On camera and in video settings. I’ve tried it at night and it gives good results in all conditions. I’m glad I didn’t spend twice as much on a go pro

And to think I almost spent double the price on a GoPro camera.
I have used them for many years but when the time came to buy a new camera, I decided to do a little research and see if I could find a little gem that would do just as well as the GoPro for half the price. The AKASO v50 ELITE is it people! Look no further.

For the price the Akaso V50 Elite is a well built action camera that comes with an array of extras which are not included with a lot of the more expensive action cameras. I’ve jumped from a older go-pro to this and only time will tell if I made the right choice .But for now the video quality is good ,built in touch screen is a bonus ,not an extra bolt on like my previous camera. With the added bonus of the extra discount on Amazon and half price extra battery’s .Its not a difficult choice.

Affordable decent 4K Action Cam. The video is clear and sharp, no lag. Just great!

Personally I use it as a dashcam in my car and it’s fantastic. At night it is a bit dark but still much lighter than other action cams and proper dashcams.

I have bought this camera in the past but returned it because there was some issues. This time round it seems much better. I think the one I have has a better/newer software and it’s great. No issues at all!

What a fantastic action camera, which is definitely a rival for the bigger brand. Great feel and usability. Clear menus and easy navigation of options. Video and photo quality is good, despite a small amount of fisheye on the video. Really looking forward to exploring this product and taking it places other than the average.

I bought this camera to record scuba diving trips. I’ve only tested it locally so far, in somewhat murky conditions. The footage is impressive considering, the dive mode has done a reasonable job of correcting the colours and I expect it will be better in clear seas.
Also tested the camera on my bike mounted on a helmet and on the handlebars. The stabilisation does a great job when mounted on the handlebars on rough cycle tracks.
Although the camera is billed as 4K, features like the digital stabilisation are not available at this resolution. I settled on using 1080p at 60fps. At this resolution I get a battery life of slightly over an hour.
The waterproof case obviously prevents using the touch screen, get it set up before you put it in. And it’s worth playing with how to navigate the menus using the buttons – you can get to all the options but it’s a bit laborious.

I bought this camera to capture a timelapse of a road-trip I was doing across the UK – roughly 4 days worth of footage.

Unfortunately, during the trip, the camera, which was connected to the 12v supply in my car and had a 64gb micro SD card kept cutting out which meant that I lost a lot of footage from the trip.

Obviously very frustrated by this, as I bought the camera specifically to do the time lapse. So, to cut a long story short, I contacted the company to see what they had to say about this. Akaso sent out a replacement camera with no further questions asked and it arrived in a few days. They didn’t even ask for the old camera to be sent back!!

I have to say I was very impressed with this level of customer service so felt that I had to leave the review.

I have not yet tested the replacement camera but I’m hoping that it doesn’t have the same issues as the original one that I received. Other than this issue, the overall build quality of the camera is very good.

Bought as a present for my 11 year old son. Comes with loads of different mounting accessories. Image quality is better than expected for a budget camera. Only used a couple of times and the battery seems to last around 30 mins recording. Might be possible to get longer by tweaking some settings. I’d recommend getting a couple of spare batteries for when out and about (it comes supplied with two)

This is a brilliant little compact camera and the image quality at 4K 30fps is fantastic. Image stabilisation is excellent. There is quite a small lens so the low light isn’t so good but that has to be expected with a small lens. We have only used it for short filming so far but are planning to use it for going ski-ing. It comes with quite a few accessories including two batteries, a twin battery charger and some clips and mounts. All in all well worth the money.

Very interesting little camera. Never used one before so was confused by the wonderful array of accessories which came included. The manual is of little help so I went to YouTube for assistance and found hundreds of great videos with loads of advice and set up help. Now I can’t wait to try it.

Wish the app had a manual included but I downloaded it this morning and will set up again after charging the included batteries.

Great job with the quality packaging the box will be a great protective cover for my new little friend.

  31. Charisa says:

     United Kingdom

As with other Akaso models the V50 Elite comes very well packaged and with an array of extras in the box, pretty much everything you’ll need to start your first action camera adventure except a micro SD card (understandable at the price).

There was a problem with the waterproof housing supplied with my camera so I contacted Akaso who supplied a replacement very quickly with no quibbles, excellent customer service!

The camera is supplied with two batteries, which you’ll need if you intend recording in 4K mode. I found the camera got quite warm recording in 4K and the cells ran down fairly quickly; I got a little over an hour’s recording time from the two batteries. I saw a review somewhere that said you lose the camera’s date/time settings when you change the battery and I can conform this. If you have a fully charged cell ready to insert straight away everything is fine, but if not the settings will have reverted to default by the time you’ve recharged your batteries. This is a bit of a pain, but it’s liveable with considering the price of the camera.

The downloadable Akaso DV app gives a live view and control via a WiFi connection. I found this worked perfectly, but you have turn off your mobile data while using it. The remote control wrist strap operates via Bluetooth and works really well (limited range of course, I found it worked up to about 5 metres). However I found the claim the camera can be voice operated to be somewhat hit and miss. I got the camera to start recording video with a voice command, but couldn’t make it stop and when told to to take stills the camera simply refused to operate at all. This isn’t a major issue for me, but if voice control is important to you it might be worth looking elsewhere.

The camera itself is compact and operates in various video and still frame modes. Unfortunately you can’t change many of the settings when the camera is enclosed in the waterproof housing. That said I’m not sure how often you’d want to change the video or photo quality settings once you’d secured the camera in the housing, but you might want to adjust things like ISO or Scene settings. I like the fact you can change the camera’s viewing angle and zoom settings as this makes it quite versatile.

Some of the things I really like: a choice of two frame rates for 4k and 2.7k, up to 120fps in 1080p, and up to an amazing 240fps in 720p so a huge choice of video quality. Recording in 1080p and below increases the battery life considerably. I found recording in 1080p at 60fps and with stabilisation on generated excellent results. The built in distortion calibration, unfortunately you have to reset it every time you change video resolution. Bizarrely it stays on when switching between photo and video modes.

Still images can be shot at 20MP, 16MP, 12MP, 10MP, 8MP and 5MP and in RAW format, which is a big bonus for photographers. The time lapse function works really well, even in night mode although low light images tend to be a bit grainy. I like the Burst Photo mode and the Long Exposure setting.

You can connect the camera to a power-bank for prolonged recording, but only out of the waterproof housing.

Some things I’m not so keen on: exposure control could be better. Not being able to access various menu settings when using the waterproof housing. The touch screen, which I found to be less responsive than on the V50 X.

All in all there’s a lot to like about the Akaso V50 Elite: there’s a lot of technology in this little camera, especially given the budget price. Could it be better? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes!

The V50 Elite is a very good value action camera with loads of features. The 4K imagery is excellent as is the image stabilisation. The link to the mobile phone is good as is the excellent remote control system.

The camera is small and light weight with a rubberised casing. It also comes with an excellent waterproof case which is simple to use and waterproof down to 4 meters (great for snorkelling).

The remote control is designed to be worn on the wrist and includes a voice control option, which is really cool. this link to the camera via the Blu tooth link.

There is a live link system for your phone via the AKASO app. The feed back is great and allows for remote operation with great imagery. The link to the phone is rather strangely via wifi, simply set up wifi on the camera and transfer your wifi on the phone .

There are loads of attachments that come with the camera for helmets, bikes etc.

My only criticism is the rather poor set up instructions in the manual (via online). It is not necessarily as clear as it could be and took a little time to work it all out.

Over all a great product that I would recommend for any cost conscious person who wants to record their active lifestyle.

This camera feels like it should cost a lot more with a nice rubbery feel to the plastic. Image quality is very good for a camera of this price and the amount of accessories is excellent considering you get nothing with a GoPro. Every attachment needed is in the box along with 2 batteries and a double charger. The wrist mounted remote is a great touch as it allows for the camera to be mounted away from you but still be controllable. I did have an issue with voice command and contacted Akaso who replied very quickly so I would say the customer service I received was excellent.

I was looking for an action camera that was in the same league as the ‘GoPro’.
Looking into options on YouTube, AKASO came up several times from various reviewers.

The company have many variations of the V50, but I bought the slightly more expensive V50 Elite model.

1080p 60fps with stabilisation turned on for cycling is excellent and my “go to” mode as this I find best for battery life.

I like the flashing red light on the front of the camera which is easy to see when its mounted to my bike.

Plenty of accessories to get you started, although I found the “handlebar mount” nowhere near thick enough to accommodate.
Everything I need for a fraction of the price. What’s not to like!

I had another action camera that I used for some time but decided to upgrade. The Akaso V50 Elite seemed to have very good reviews despite the price was not much higher than the one I used to have, so I was hesitating to go for this when I really wanted the standard of GoPro. Now, that I received and used the camera a few times on bicycle, handheld longboarding, on a boom and in different modes, I am sooo satisfied with my choice. The picture is great, operation is easy, remote is perfect and not least the accessories hold the camera perfectly tight with a tight fit!

The first thing I noticed when unboxing the V50 Elite 4K/60fps was how small the camera was (attached is a photo comparing it in size to a pack of playing cards) Have used it a couple of times and in well lit areas like outside and in a light room the image quality at 4K 30fps was amazing. Haven’t tried 4K 60fps yet as I wanted to try it with the image stabilisation which is turned off at 60fps. I would say in low light the video is a bit pixelated however this is an action camera and not intended for low light interior videos. The image stabilisation works well. The back of the camera is touch screen and although its no iPhone touch screen it works pretty well and is responsive. Overall so far what I have seen from this very small and compact camera is impressive and the only thing the Go-Pro has over it is the fact you have to use the underwater case with the V50 Elite but hey that’s a small price to pay and a lot of saved over the Go-pro. So to sum it up I’m very pleased with my purchase.

    Great Little Camera

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersExcellent budget action camera supporting 4k 60fps video recording and H.265 (HEVC) encoding, with a range of useful accessories included in the price.

Having used a variety of older generation GoPros I could find no discernable difference in build quality in either the camera itself or in the many accessories provided out of the box. The firmware feels slightly less slick than the latest generation GoPros, but this is a very minor gripe. The camera itself is not waterproof, but a good quality waterproof case is provided and in practice you’ll probably want to use this case in an active environment.

The included accessories encompass two 1050mAh batteries, dual battery charger (but you’ll need to provide your own USB mains plug), adhesive-backed platform mounts, helment mounts, handlebar mounts, waterproof case and various velcro straps and tethers. What you don’t get out of the box are body or head harnesses, suction mounts or floats, but these are readily available.

The downloadable 13-page PDF instruction manual specifies “UHS-3 rated” micro SD cards, up to 128GB capacity. In practice I found ‘slower’ UHS-1 and UHS-2 SanDisk cards worked fine at lower resolutions and frame rates but struggled at 60fps and above, with frequent dropouts.

I found battery life on a fully charged battery at 4k 30fps is about 45 mins. Expect better life at lower resolutions and frame rates. I’d want to run a few charge cycles before judging long term battery life, but it’s certainly on a par with the competition.

The electronic image stabilisation works well but be aware that this is only available in certain configurations – you cannot for example use image stabilisation in medium or narrow angle modes, when zoomed, in time lapse or slow motion modes, or at high (120fps) video frame rates. But in wide angle mode at 4k 30fps or 1080 60fps it works fine.

The Remote Control, which syncs with the camera via Bluetooth, is a very useful accessory which works well at up to 10m range. There is a basic Alexa-style voice-control mode which I found worked reliably for starting and stopping video recording, but which failed to respond to my still photography commands.

The Akaso DV mobile app (available for Android and IOS), which connects to the camera via a direct WiFi connection, provides a live video feed, remote control of most of the main functions, and the ability to download recorded videos and photos to the phone (and from there to a storage location of your choice). There’s no internet connectivity while connected to the camera’s WiFi, so to upload recorded material to cloud storage like DropBox or iCloud, you’ll need to disconnect the app and reconnect to your main ISP’s WiFi. Sadly, there is no way to view a live WiFi video stream via a standard web browser – it would be nice if that feature could be supported in future firmwares.

In terms of online support, I submitted a query to Akaso’s technical support team and got a helpful reply within 24 hours, so no complaints there.

All in all an excellent package at roughly half the price of the equivalent GoPro HERO6 package.

    Excellent budget action camera

Having owned a go pro hero 4, which was sadly lost to the Indian ocean while surfing in Bali (RIP) I was reluctant to spend 300+ on another go pro!
I did a tonne of research and thanks to various stellar YouTube reviews of the v50 models I took a punt

And boy am I glad we did!

First and foremost, this is as good, if not better that the hero 4 I previously owned. The hardware, accessories, mounts appear to be the exact same: every accessory for my hero 4 is interchangeable with the v50 akaso model.

The key thing that has blown me away is the free app, to utilise as a remote viewer and media playback tool…..
It is hands down better than the glitchy go pro one!
The go pro app (as many of you will have experienced) was very intermittent, and would crash unexpectedly. Everything I needed the go pro app to be is available with the akaso app; Stable, intuitive, clear and consistent!

I am no expert when it comes to photography or cameras but I did lots of research before taking the plunge as although I was working to a budget I still didn’t want to waste my money. Only received a couple of days ago but so far I’ve been really impressed. The image stabilisation is really good and have only used in low light so far but even then the picture quality was OK, given that I knew to expect low light conditions not to be great for action cams. Took me a while to realise that you had to connect smart phone via wifi rather than bluetooth (and not sure why it works this way) but once I’d figured it out the app has worked really well too. One of the main reasons I liked the Akaso was because all of the added extras that came with it, with lots of mounts included and 2 batteries. I also like the different range of frame rates and resolutions, although to my untrained eye they all look the same to me but 4k 30fps seems to be the most popular setting of other reviewers and I’m impressed with the picture quality. Also the microphone picks sound up from in front of the camera really well too, better than I was expecting. All in all, for not a lot more than 100, think this is well worth the money.

I have used many different cameras and this Action camera from AKASO. Has so many great features at a 1/3 of the cost of the Gopro7 black or the osmo action. This camera has great image stabilisation voice control touchscreen remote control. Shoots 4k 60fps (true native 4k) Has a standard 1/4 fitting built in for tripod. So no external case needed. Although it comes with many accessories. Including waterproof housing. The 8X Zoom works great. All in all I think this is a winner all round.

Really impressed with this Camera. V50 Elite

This camera is outstanding. I don’t think you’ll find this quality elsewhere for a better price. Easy to use, video footage is superb, great battery life. So far I’ve found the only issue to be the IOS App which can be used along with camera. I think once the app has been updated it will solve this issue. Otherwise it’s awesome!

**Update: Was sent another one and seemed to be working good with a Hohem gimbal. Microphone input would be great**

Good video quality for the price. Lots of accessories. That’s all. Voice recording is almost nil. Picture are definitely not 20 megapixels. Image stabilisation is extremely poor at all resolutions. Shame as otherwise a fairly decent action camera. Returning the item sadly.

I wasn’t sure about which action cam to go for but after researching youtube, I opted for the Akaso V50 Elite. I was very pleased with my choice. There is multiple ways to set up the camera in the menu such as ISO, White balance, exposure, its simple and easy to use. The colours in the videos and are true to life and sharp.

Skin tones look great and natural . The App for the camera works well on my Samsung note. Im getting some great footage.

The EIS and Distortion calibration works great and for the price, the camera is superb. I’m very happy with the choice. The value for money is exceptional. Plenty of fun times up ahead for me and my family with this excellent camera.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThis camera is for me a replacement of my older 1080p camera. There is a lot in the box, including a simple wrist wearable bluetooth remote control as well as the more usual multiple mounting options. And, obviously wifi. I have seen comments complaining about the app that accompanies the camera, but for me it works well albeit the range is not huge. On my example the touch screen works really well. Battery life is not outstanding, at around 30 minutes in my experience (I still have 720p camera that lasts for hours on one charge) but you do get two batteries and they recharge from a USB supply, so you can use a powerbank if you are out and about. The good things: two frame rates for 4k and 2.7k, up to 120fps in 1080p, and up to a staggering 240fps in 720p. Stills can be shot in RAW format – a big bonus. The built in distortion correction works really well, but you have to turn it back on every time you change video resolution if you want it (it stays on switching between photo and video). The IS is OK rather than spectacularly effective (not available in 4k 60fps) , use it if you don’t have a gimbal. The sound is OK too (obviously useless inside the waterproof case) although I usually record sound separately with a Zoom H1. Now for the not so wonderful. Exposure is automatic, although in the setting menu there is the possibility to over or under expose by up to 2 stops in 1 stop intervals. It is a good idea to under expose where there are bright areas in an image, such as clouds, to avoid burn out. The ‘natural’ colour setting, the default, is rather over saturated for my taste, but switch to ‘cold’ and it suits me. In short, this is a lot of action camera for the money. So although it is not the world’s best performer it has a lot of solid real world useability and more than adequate output quality for most users. I’m very happy with it and taking on my hols in due course.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersBought this little unit on a lightening deal for just over 106.00.
I used it today and am very impressed with the video footage and the battery life….. Just under an hour and a quarter of 4k@30fps.
The camera however got very warm during use, although this did have any detrimental effects.
The still images are excellent too.
I have previously owned a gopro hero 3 black and that was quite an impressive unit several years ago.
Personally for the quality of this v50 and the bundled accessories for the price, I cam buy 3 of these to one gopro.
And let’s face it, if I lost a 400 camera I would be pig sick, at 100. It would be a bitter pill to swallow if lost, but manageable!
Overall am very very impressed, sure the image stabilisation could do with some tweaks, but, it’s not really an issue to me.

Been using this camera for a few days now, and can honestly say I am amazed at build, photo, and video quality for this price. The image stabilisation seems pretty good as well. I cannot understand why anyone would pay as much as 3x more for a GoPro when in my opinion this product is just as good. It also comes with lots of accessories, 2x batteries, and underwater case….much more than the GoPro!

Bought this camera and so far it is excellent.

    Pro’s:
Picture quality is incredible, especially in 4K 30/60fps.
Footage is easily transferable to either my mobile via the app or PC by simply connecting it using the USB.

    Cons:
Battery dies quite quickly when filming in 4K however this is pretty standard with all action cameras. Fortunately two batteries were supplied so this has not been an issue 🙂

    Would definitely recommend!

Golden Review Award: 35 From Our UsersHad a gopro hero4 black that died suddenly, not even charge anymore.
So decided to buy something different, and cheaper instead.
For the price, I think it is a great camera. Video quality is at least as good, although stabilization can only be activated at 4k@30fps, not 60fps, ot 1080 60fps. So not too bad, but something to consider. Also, when it is active it is ok but not great.
It does come with a fair few accessories including two batteries and a twin battery charger, as well as the water proof housing and a open back door (so you can use the touchscreen instead of making it waterproof) and some clips and mounts. Compatible with the ones I got for the gopro (although the case is similar, it is not the same (of course, but again, something to be aware of))
Remote control, I have yet to try the voice activation, but it works perfectly with the buttons.
App is good enough, fast video transmission and all options there.I only don’t like that I have to select the model of camera every time I start the app (But it is already pre-selected, so it is only one more click). Otherwise is great.
I like a lot the rubberized texture of the camera itself.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersFor the price you pay, this is a brilliant camera. I haven’t used it in any sort or extreme scenarios to test the actual build quality but the image quality at 4K 30fps is fantastic, the detail and colours are spot on. Image stabilisation is decent, still picks up shakes but there is visibily less movement in the image compared to it switched off. Low light isn’t so good but that has to be expected with a small lense like this. If you have access to a 4K TV or display of some sort then I would highly recommend using the 4K 30 resolution over 1080p, just be sure to get the 128gb SD card too.
All in, at just over a third of the cost of a GoPro Hero 7 Black, what you get for your money is great, if you’re going to use a camera like this every once in a while like me then this is going to be ideal for you. As I haven’t owned it long I can’t speak for the longevity of it but in short bursts of an hour or so of filming it is perfectly fine so far.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOn receiving the Akaso V50 elite I could see that if the quality of the packaging was anything to go by the camera would be great.

I was not disappointed after unpacking the camera and all the accessories that come with it i charged the batteries and started to try out the camera. No instructions come with the camera (Only a quick reference guide) but these are downloadable very easily. But everything was so simple I did not really need them. the picture quality is amazing at 4k and can’t wait to start using is for what it is designed for.

One important note don’t forget the class 10+ SD card as you will need this for 4k recording.

It comes with load of accessory which would cost a fortune for a GoPro.
I had some problems linking my phone via the App, I got it sorted in the end with with some very good service from there AKASO technical help team.
The link to the phone can still be a bit temperamental though but works in the end.
I would recommend that they put a rubber cover over the sockets on the side as this could let in dirt when used without the water proof cover.
All in all it’s a great little camera for the money.

I was unsure about this, as GoPro’s get such glowing reviews, but I could not justify the money and there is such choice around for alternative cameras. I took the plunge and I am not disappointed (nor are the kids more importantly). The camera is intuitive, the app supports the use of the camera well (I am confused by the poor ratings of the app?). The touch screen can be a bit clunky sometimes, but I have fat fingers and it is not bad enough to lower muy star rating. I am so impressed I have got the Akaso drone as well 🙂 A*

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersAfter searching for an action cam that was in the same league as the popular ‘Go $ro’ eventually AKASO came up.
Skeptical, i bought the cheaper V50 Pro model as it was cheaper.
After reviewing the footage from a skiing holiday, i gave the V50 Pro to my son, to replace his cheap generic action cam, and bought the slightly more expensive V50 Elite model.
whilst the video stabilisation in the Elite model is limited to the same resolution as the V50 Pro, i’ve still got the option for using higher quality resolution on still projects – but the 1080p 60fps with stbilisation turned on for skiing was excellent!
I like the little function of the flashing red light on the front of the camera – which is easy when its mounted to my ski helmet, for people to see if its recording, without me having to take my helmet off and check.

My friend had a Go Pro 3 and my Akaso V50 Pro was better. I doubt it is as good as the Go Pro 7, but i couldn’t see why i’d need anything better than the V50 Pro – it does everything you’d need – AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE !….but for only a few ‘s more, I’d recommend you get the ELITE version – the firmware seems to run smoother and i prefer the user interface, and with the higher resolution – its a win win.

I would love to compare the footage of my V50 Elite with a Go $ro 7…..maybe if someone wants to donate one to me, i’ll compare the footage and post a review???????

“Rubbish. Keeps cutting out. Can not be trusted to work while on head strap”. The first one of these I had had an issue where it would sometimes cut out, even when fully charged and stop recording. I have since had that replaced. I tried out the replacement set on my dash recording as I took a trip up North to a hobby shop I wanted to visit. The camera worked great and the image stabilization works really well. For the price the camera is a great bit of kit. It come with plenty of accessories and through using mounts you can buy through Amazon, you can pretty much mount it anywhere. Very happy now I have replaced this camera with a new one. My trust in the device has been restored.

I was originally interested in buying a GoPro as I wanted a camera that fitted into the pocket so I could capture memories of my children at theme parks and other days out. Whilst searching I came across this little gem and since arriving it hasn’t dissapointed. It’s easy to use and comes with an array of accessories. The app is straightforward to download and navigate and the camera itself is solid and well made. The waterproof housing is a great addition when wandering in the woods on a rainy day and it’s seems to capture images well in low light. A true “weather can’t spoil” camera. I haven’t used the camera yet as I brought the V50 for the videoing capability. Sure there as cheaper ones in the range but I would defiantly spend the extra money and purchase this. Well done Akaso!

I haven’t had this Camera long, only a few days. We bought it to use on an upcoming a Holiday. I’ve tried it around the House and first impressions are good, although there are some areas, that could be improved, but for the price, it appears to be a great little allrounder. Unfortunately, since I wrote the first review, I’ve had to return the Camera as the Video recorded fine for about 15-20 seconds, then went into slow-mo for some reason. However, I was impressed with the quality of the Video, I’ve ordered another one to give it a 2nd chance. The pics are a little grainy when blown up, but for the price, it’s worth another go. I’ll post again if the Camera doesn’t live up to expectations.

This is a fantastic bit of kit. Compared to the GoPro, you are buying 90% of the quality and features for 30% of the price. Everything feels solid, well made and well up to the task. The only negative is the lack of ability to flip the video when mounting upside down, though that is an easy thing to sort with a video editor.

  90. Anonymous says:

    The good:
The picture quality is very good (with the exception of low light conditions where most action cams suffer)
    The inbuilt stabilisation works well
Comes with a load of accessories
Removable batteries and comes with 2
Easy to use including the touchscreen
Lots of different settings in terms of resolution, time lapse, etc

    The bad:
The build quality feels a little cheap, but it’s sturdy enough
The app that you use to get media onto your phone/tablet really is terrible. Crashes so often and need updating ASAP.
It never remembers your last settings, so it always forgets the date, that you had image stabilisation on etc.

Overall, happy with the purchase. For the price, it really does a brilliant job.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPurchased this after researching online and decided the Go Pro price just couldn’t be justified. Only had the camera a few days but so far so good. tried the video out, remote control and app (good distance remote control with this) and downloaded files to phone so that I can then cast it via chromecast to our NON 4k NON smart tv. works well. recorded in 4k to try it but with no 4k tv to play it probably better to run at lower resolution. Given 4 stars not 5 overall for a couple of reasons…one the battery life (although you do get 2) seems poor. guess running at high res. and with stabilisation on etc it uses more power. Will look to get larger capacity batteries at some point. Second thing is it was not clear in ads etc that some of the functions only work with some of the resolutions, particularly the stabilisation will not work with the highest resolution etc.. But, overall it does an awful lot for the price and I think it will be a great fun snorkelling etc.
I would recommend this camera, take your time to get to know the functions, instructions are not too detailed and so you need to play with it a bit.Top tip ….being new to these things ( and getting older) Took me a few minutes to detach camera from the box…seems obvious now but remove the rubber bung which is attched to the mount and squeeze the clips to slide the mount off the box. Easy if you know how 🙂

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersWe bought this camera for taking ‘live’ on-stage footage at events. We use a Panasonic GH5S as a “run and gun” camera to get close-ups, and footage in crowd. The Akaso will be fixed to lighting truss to provide an A-camera view of the lead singer.

The quality of 4k 30 fps footage is excellent, particularly if there’s plenty of light. We’d have loved the option to change settings to 25 fps as that’s the frame rate our content is delivered in, and we’re a bit worried about getting flicker if shooting anywhere near those wretched fairly lights. But that’s a very minor gripe. One other slight negative is that the 4k 60p is not quite as crisp, at least in low light, at the 4k 30p. We’ll report back if we’re able to coax slightly better images out of it once we’ve had the opportunity to test it in a ‘live’ environment.

The fact that it shoots in 4k means we can zoom in to correct for any framing issues or simply to get a bit closer to the action whilst still keeping the camera well out of sight.

The footage is crisp and clear and, whilst it’s not of course quite up to the standard of the GH5S, it perfectible use-able and, after some colour grading, certainly doesn’t stand out as being noticeably different from the rest of the footage we use. That’s saying something really as it’s about 1/30 of the price of the Panasonic and lens combination.

The menu is simple to operate and most of the functions are clear if you’ve any camera experience. We found the touch-scree a little sluggish, particularly when swiping up and down, but generally, since this is a ‘set up once and forget’, that not going to cause us any problems. The camera works with or without a battery (i.e. you can power it all day long from a USB power pack) and with a 128 GB card we were able to get a full evenings footage, by just leaving it running. It does separate the file into smaller chunks (normal for this kind of camera) so you may need to do a bit of stitching together if you want to put out a really long clip.

Once we’ve put it through it’s paces a little more thoroughly, we’ll be buying a few more of these to position around the stage as fixed cameras.

One star deducted as no 25 fps and the slight drop in quality in low light for 4k 60p. But overall, a great product at an amazing price.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersGreat little camera. I have been trying to use my phone to record martial arts classes and it has been too much hassle to get anything of any use. The first class I use this for it was brilliant! Simple click and point. Quick transfer to my laptop shared it with the whole class via Google drive. Lots of editing options on your phone via the app. Or if you know how to edit on the laptop seems you can do even more. But I am still learning. It comes with 2 batteries, loads of accessories and a protective screen cover already attached. I can’t this recommend enough. I was one click away from buying the GoPro hero 7! Then this popped up. Golden Review Award: 151 From Our UsersThis is the latest offering from Akaso and it seems I am the first to review this on the UK Amazon site. (No Pressure then.. 🙂 ) So..
Firstly I bought this having just returned the V50 Pro model as it was awful – Buggy software/firmware and video quality that really wasn’t up to scratch. However given the price bracket I felt it was only fair to look at the new offering in the form of the V50 Elite.

    Build quality.
Looks and feels solid. Has a matt rubbery feel to it which makes it feel like a more premium product. It does look nice.

    Software/Firmware.
Sadly still quite buggy, athough they have fixed a few annoyances that were in the Pro version. It still leaves quite a bit to be desired though.
One thing I will point out as I feel this is important and one of the reasons I can only give three stars. This camera is sold on the option to film in 4K at 60FPS. It does do this but whilst filming in 4K 60fps . A lot of the other useful functions are disabled such as the advertised 8 X Zoom and importantly the Image stabilastion will not work. So to be honest you are better filming in 4K 30fps or 1080P and having use of these functions especially if you are using it for moving action sequences/sports.

Touchscreen functions are ok. Touchscreen is not overly sensitive even when removing the protective film. so you can sometimes find yourself stabbing away at it trying to achieve a function.
As soon as the unit is put in the waterproof casing the touch screen becomes reduntant (fairly obviously) But at that point functionality is massively reduced as most functions are not available to select via the external buttons. Could be improved massively. This was a big problem with the V50 Pro .

    Video Quality.
First impressions are it is slightly better than the V50 Pro model but still dont expect Go Pro quality if comparing to the Hero 6 or 7 Black units that film in 4K. However it is significantly cheaper than those two models so that is to be expected.

    Sound Quality
Is very good to be honest. Unless you put it in the waterproof case then it cant record sound as its sealed.

    Battery Life.

Sadly this has decreased with this model. Only about 40 mins if filming in 4K 60fps About an hour if filming in 1080p.
Please also keep in mind batteries from other Akaso units are NOT compatible with this unit.
PLLEASE BE AWARE every time you change the battery the Time and date and other settings all reset. So you have to set the camera up from scratch every time you change the battery.. I have spoken to them about this and explained its very inconvenient when this happens. They have responded thanking me for the feedback, Telling me that you have to change the battery within 10 seconds to keep the settings.. That needs to be improved as if the battery dies in the unit whilst you doing an activity you may not be able to change it in 10 seconds.

    Remote Control.
It comes with this and so far I have managed to connect and use it with no real issues. You do need to be within a meter or two of the camera for this to work.

    Smartphone App.
This is OK. It gives you the option to connect via Wifi to various cameras in the range however as soon as Wifi is connected it thinks I am connecting to the EK7000 model and wont allow me to change that. so I am unsure if I even get access to all of the correct functions. There are several options that when pressed just come up with a warning in Chinese… Not overly helpful.

    Customer Service.
Initially was questionable but they have since massively upped their game and have been all over replying to emails within 24 hours. I cant fault them. They have even sent me a new camera by way of compensation… 🙂

    In the Box
It does come with a fair few accessories including two batteries and a twin battery charger, as well as the water proof housing and a bunch of clips and mounts. Be aware that they are not always the best fit. Bulk manufactured and nothing is the same twice..

In short this is a good camera for the price. There are changes they need to make to afford a 5 star t review namely the camera losing its settings and time and date. I hope that helps and please keep in mind this is a my opinion and experiences and others may think very differently. 🙂
