Frequently Asked Questions:

1.How can this hub achieve 85W Power Delivery charging?

To get 85W charging, use a USB-C wall charger and a USB-C to C cable that both support 100W PD charging.

2. Does the USB-C Power Delivery port support charging for tablets (including iPad Pro) or phones?

Due to the power input limitations of mobile devices, this hub can not provide pass-through charging to tablets (including iPad Pro) or phones when using the original wall charger that came with your mobile device. To support full-speed charging for iPad Pro, use an adapter that supports at least 15V (45W).

3. Why can’t my HDMI resolution reach 4K@60Hz

The HDMI port supports a variety of resolutions up to 4K@60Hz, including 1080p, 1080i, 720p, and 480p. For 4K@60Hz resolution, please confirm your device supports DP 1.4. Below are some devices that support DP1.4:

MacBook Pro 15” 2018 / 2019

MacBook Pro 16” 2019

iPad Pro 2018 / 2019 / 2020 (Only iPad Pros with iPadOS are compatible)

HP EliteBook 1050 G1

4. Does this hub get hot?

When the hub is fully loaded, it may reach a surface temperature of around 149°F. However, this is normal for products of this kind.

    chic c’est la’vie, c’est bon! c’est bon!
as dorit once said about a wind chime, so chic!!!

but for real, this has every port you could ever need, is compact, sturdy as hell, seems to be fast, and is relatively lightweight.

THIS CANNOT BE USED TO CHARGE. I REPEAT, THIS CANNOT BE USED TO CHARGE. if you have a computer with only one usb port and need to use a dongle that charges and transfers data, this is not your dongle. this does literally everything but that (not that I am complaining, just warning!). remember to read full descriptions kids, as this is in the description for the product lol.

does get a little warm when im just using it for an HDMI though?

I first bought one of the few hubs that have a longer cable
But that one was already used and the LED was the only thing on it that worked.
    It has left the building.

So, back to one of my trusted brands and now use a short USB C extender cable so that I can hang the hub out of sight behind my 27″ monitor and put my laptop (which has now only 1 cable connected) on the edge of my desk to maximize desk space.

With this Anker, everything just works as expected.

Now there is a single compact dual port 90W PD power supply that powers both my 27″ monitor (using a small PD converter) and the Anker hub where the Anker hub powers my laptop, puts video on my monitor and services the USB peripherals Ducky TKL keyboard and smart card reader(Stuck to the back of my monitor).

Eliminating the keyboard cable will be the final step.

There is reasonable space between each plugin port so you can plug in multiple things at the same time. Does get warm when use it. Come in with a small bag for travel.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis hub worked fine for about a year, I never used the HDMI port as it was NOT 4K 60 hertz for my monitor.
The product worked well for about a year but just yesterday it just died, it ejected my hard drive, luckily with out damaging it. It did get pretty hot but nothing I was concerned about until it died, which makes me think that after a year of running hot it must have just fried the inner components. When plugged in the light shows it is getting power but will not connect with any device. I tried several other computers and the same thing, it no longer works. I have always liked anker products but am totally disappointed that it died on me and in the middle of a long trip where there is no way of finding a replacement.
****EDIT I contacted ANKER and they quickly responded and will be sending me a replacement item asap.
This is amazing company and their customer service is TOP Notch. Never had a company respond so quickly.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersUSB-C hubs are a disaster if you’re trying to use a 4K display. For various reasons, this is the only one that worked for 4K@60Hz on my MacBook Air. Power passthrough also worked as expected, and the SD card reader is faster than most. The hub does get warm to the touch but not hot.

After 3 months of frequent use, either the thunderbolt port on my laptop or the output cable from the hub developed a loose connection, where any minor movement would disconnect the computer. I tried removing dust from both ports but this didn’t work. I solved the connection issue with a XAOSUN right angle thunderbolt extension cable (search on Amazon). It is roughly 8 inches long, but they also make longer ones. I would recommend purchasing this if you are having any connection issues as I can vouch it provides me a very reliable connection.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThere seems to be a flaw with the HDMI port. I was excited about the latest 3.2 faster USB connections. They’re fine. The HDMI port; however, causes my monitor to blink or flicker in certain areas occasionally. It doesn’t do this when I try other HDMI port options so I know it’s the Anker device for sure. One day after reconnecting my laptop, the HDMI port didn’t want to work at all, but all other ports on it worked fine. Then the next day, it worked fine. No flicking. I need it to do it’s job everyday with ease.

Update: Anker is still a great company. I have bought their products in the past and will continue. If you ever have a problem, they will try to make it right. Though still a little pricey compared to this 10 in 1 Inateck Usb C Hub I just bought.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have a personal laptop plus a work laptop and needed a way to quickly connect them at my desk when working from home. I wanted the ability to power them directly from the docking station to eliminate the extra power cables and bricks when traveling as well. This hub met all my needs and has worked perfectly since day one.

Keep in mind that the hub itself requires 15w of power, so the most you can pass through via power delivery is 85w when using a 100w power delivery input. I paired this with an Anker 727 Charging Station for both home and on the road. The 727 is capable of outputting 100w when only one device is hooked up, so during the day, I use the 727 hooked to the hub to power my laptop. At night, I can charge my phone, watch, and the powered down laptop as needed or all at once.

My one complaint is the short cable that’s permanently attached to the hub as this doesn’t give much freedom of placement on the desk. I ended up purchasing a three-foot USB C extension cable to provide a bit of separation from the hub. I wish that Anker had either made the cable detachable, or at least provided a longer cable from the factory. But other than the added cost, it was easily fixed. As with all things USB C, make sure to use quality cables to get the maximum power delivery and highest data throughput.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersMy experience:

    – Desktop PC:
    – Plug this into my desktop’s Intel USB 3.1 controller and the USB and Ethernet ports work.
    – Plug this into my desktop’s ASMedia USB 3.2 controller and the Ethernet port doesn’t work, and the hub re-enumerate about every 10 seconds or so. It’s freaking annoying.
    – Didn’t try the HDMI port, as my desktop has a dedicated GPU to drive my 4K.
At this point, I had rated it 4 stars.

    – MacBook:
    – Plug this into my M2 MBA, and everything seems to work, as long as I don’t use the 100W PD port.
    – Using the HDMI at 4K UHD / 2160p60.
At this point, I changed my rating to 3 stars.

Windows NT sucks when it comes to USB things, so beats me as to whether the compatibility issue is an Anker, Microsoft, Intel, or ASMedia issue. Don’t care, it’s a pain. If I use one of the cheap HooToo USB-C hubs prevalent on Amazon, those work with either controller unlike this Anker.

For the Mac case, I think this owes to me replacing my Mac’s charger with one of Anker’s GaNPrime chargers and an Anker 100W PD cable. But since Apple replaced Intel’s TB/USB controllers with their own stuff for the newest models, who knows given the wonkers behavior observed with Windows 11. Not rewiring my desk to try Apple’s charger, as I’ve already had issues with this hub.

While I think this hub could be handy if I found myself on a long trip with just a MacBook, for my desk setup switching between a PC and a MB, it just doesn’t cut it. Replacing with a CalDigit TS4 before I spend anymore money on this thing ^_^. Not sure whether this hub ends up in /dev/closet or /dev/backpack as a spare, but I’m basically done with it.

For some reason, using the ethernet on this to connect to my HP printer via wired internet only works by explicitly using the ip address of the printer. My previous Anker interface, as well as wifi, have no problem seeing the printer via bonjour, which also allows better printer drivers to be used.

As others have mentioned charging can be a bit tricky. Since the hub is not a true “pass thru” for charging and will take some of the power to operate you need to make sure you are using a high watt power brick or at the least the provided USB C brick provided.

Even then you may need to follow the directions from other reviews. You need to power down, and plug in from the wall, then cord, then usb hub, and finally ipad. NOW power on and it will be charging. If you unplug at any point and plug back in (atleast in my experience) it will not work or say “NOT charging” on the ipad.

This seems to be the case with nearly all HUBS and so returning and trying anther hub with out addressing the route of the issue, which is the power block needing to be high watt output will be a frustrating one.

HOPE THIS HELPS one IPAD CHARGING issue for you.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this USB-C Anker 8-in-1 hub for my new refurbished M1 2020 MBPro. Power delivery and HDMI worked immediately. USB-A works for a ~2015 1T drive, but not for other legacy devices like a ScanSnap. Ethernet did not work at all and I was pretty mad. I began plowing through posts and comments. It was news to me that instead of seeing a device connected (or not) to Ethernet, I would be seeing “USB 10/100/1000 LAN. ”

I read a bunch of suggested fixes like a static IP, scan/reset ports with a command line tool, and simplest, a reboot. I did a full system shutdown (with the hub and power and all cables still in). When boot-up finished, Internet connection was there. My feelings on the hub have improved, but I’m wary of the connection dropping, as some have reported, and rather lost on how to install the scanner, which is wireless but wants a USB connection at installation.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis Anker 8-in-1 hub delivers as you can expect it you know and are aware of the limitations of usb-c hubs in general.
This hub is made of plastic and in this sense not worse or better than the vast majority of hubs.
My problem with this hub is that I expected the usb-c ports to be able to deliver video output.
I use a Dell XPS 15 and have a Dell usb-c monitor connected to the usb-c port of my XPS 15. This works fine as the XPS 15 usb-c port has DP Alternate mode.
But if you connect the Anker hub to this usb-c port of the XPS 15, this DP Alt mode is not available for the usb-c ports of the hub. Therefore, you have no video output when connecting a monitor to a usb-c port of the hub.
However, this is not a fault with the Anker hub. This is just how it is for all hubs maybe except Thunderbolt 4 hubs, but Thunderbolt 4 hubs are very expensive.
If you closely read the description for hubs, it is all about data — not video – when describing the usb-c port of hubs — e.g., for using external disk drives.
The HDMI port delivered video all right. I should have looked for a hub that also had a DisplayPort, that can be connected to a usb-c monitor by using the right cable — probably a bidirectional usb-c to DP cable. I haven’t tried this and have actually dropped using a usb-c hub at all as my Dell laptop has the necessary ports. When using a hub I just hoped to be able to unplug just one cable when taken my laptop with me.

Following much of the advice both on other reviews and other online forums I haven’t dared using this to charge my macbook air but apart from that the device is working exactly as espected. It does heat up a bit but I believe this to be expected.

Also noticed battery seem to drain a bit faster if left plugged into the laptop during sleep.

It is hard to find a high-speed 3.1 USB C hub that provides Power Delivery for products such as iPad Pro. This product has all the commonly used features, including HDMI and Ethernet.

It is important to note that this product provides high-speed USB 3.1. As such, it consumes 15 watts for its operation. It needs more power than a typical USB 3 hub. If the power supply does not offer enough wattage, it won’t charge the device. That means:

    Output wattage = Input wattage – 15

The new M1 Airs have two USB-C ports, one of which is for power. This plugs into the power port. All the heritage kit you have – external HDDs, camera cards – plug into this. NOTE: the Apple CD/DVD drive insisted via OSX that it have its very own USB-C port on the Mac. If you’re getting an M1 Air, you will need this or something close.

I have been daily driving this for a few months now and only now started to use the PD input. I am using this with a LENOVO X10 laptop. briefly tried on a iPad Pro m1 too.

    Before using the PD input:

Ethernet was temperamental, although I was showing speeds of 50mb+ on Teams calls its worked ok most of the time. the moment I shared my screed it would dramatically struggle and cut the call with no connection.

Both the USB and USB C for external drive connections would take forever to load presentations or if browsing through photos would constantly show a loading icon despite have numerous drives tested on the laptop directly (fully working) and the drives being connected are SSD so they would have fast read speeds.

The HDMI works as well as expected.

After trying to use the PD input with a 60W charter:

this is rated to work with uptown 85W, with in a minute of plugging in a charger to this hub the USB C input on the laptop started to smoke.

since then, non of the USB ports on the hub seem to work correctly and yes, I did use the charger in the PD port.

Honestly, I expected this to work, being an anger product I also expected 0 issues. maybe this is a faulty unit. I will update if anker can sort this out as its only a few months old.

    ***Update***
Problem resolved as it was a faulty unit. All is good and as expected.

Negatives: After a few months the Ethernet port stopped working.

Positives: Ankers new return process has made resolving this much easier.

Bougth on Feb 2021, review Dec 2021, and I am working from home, so I use it at least 8h/day
    —-
I do not know what to say a part that it is so HOT that burns your fingers. And the things connected to it get even hotter than the adapter itself. For example I could not afford to disconnect a metallic usb key connected to the USB-A port with my barehands.
BUT, I am using a MacBook Pro, and
    – It supports the 96W passthrough to charge my MacBook with the original charger without problems
    – I have network speeds of 950Mbs with iperf3
    – USB-A connected to external USB enclosure for TimeMachine works and I get the 250MB/s that it is able my old sata-3 ssd
    – I have a Samsung 28″ 4K connected to the HDMI port
And everything works without any disconnection, and I could plug and unplug it with the laptop working and I have cero problems. The high temperature that it gets seems not affecting it either.
    – SD card I have used only sometimes and it looks also ok. The latest one got 90MB/s writing and 150MB/s reading. On the specs of the SD card.
    – I had not used the USB-C. Only the PD one for power passthrough.
I will suggest them a better way to distinguish between the USB-C PD and the USB-C one that it is only data. Letters are small, black over dark grey, not really smart from them… While would be perfect.

It will not be so cool or so cold as the Caldigit that I had at work, but it is less than 1/3 cheaper.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEverything working well for me on my M1 MacBook Air running Big Sur. Here’s what I have connected/tested:

    — Passthrough charging with an Anker 60w USB-C charger (you want to use a bigger charger than the stock 30w because the hub itself draws some power.)

–Several USB 2.0 peripherals connected to one of the USB-A ports on the hub via a 10 port powered Anker USB 3.0 hub.

–2 external SSDs via the remaining USB-A and USB-C 10gbps data ports. My USB 3.1 5gbps SSD runs full speed while my USB 3.2 SSD slows down 20-30% versus connected straight to my MacBook Air. It’s not able to take full advantage of the advertised 10gbps bandwidth.

–4K LG HDR monitor running smoothly enough over HDMI at 60HZ. Not quite as smooth as a direct DisplayPort connection to my MacBook Air but usable and doesn’t flicker, dropout, etc as these inexpensive and even sometimes more expensive docks commonly do.

    — SD card slots are slow but usable, about 50-60MB/s read/write. UHS-II would’ve been a nice addition, but looks like I’ll have to get another dongle if I want full UHS-II speeds.

    — Haven’t tested the ethernet but nice to know it’s there if I decide to go wired.

In summary: don’t expect to get the performance of a dedicated thunderbolt dock. However, for 1/3 the price and a smaller size, this hub gets the job done! It’s great being able to connect my entire workstation and charge my laptop via a single USB-C port! I also like the $30 Anker 7-in-1 that this replaced, and I’ll be keeping that one in my laptop bag for good connectivity on the go. For the price, these Anker products are great! If you want to run multiple 4k displays, Thunderbolt or USB 3.2 drives at full speed, you’ll be better off paying the extra cash for a full on Thunderbolt dock.

I bought this adapter to use my M1 Macbook with my 4K TV, which I use as a Monitor with my desktop computer as well. The adapter works very well, it’s well built and has many ports. The Macbook can be charged using the PD port while the adapter is being used.

Image transmission works well via HDMI, however unlike my desktop PC, I can not use full 4:4:4 subsampling with my Mac. It’s only 4:4:2, so some text (e.g. black on red) looks a bit blurry. I think this might be an issue of the Macbook, so I can’t fault the adapter for this. Nevertheless, the picture quality is very good at 4K and it runs smoothly at 60 Hz. Other adapters I tried previously could only do 30 Hz, so I would say that this one does it’s job very well.

A good accessory for any owner of a laptop that only accepts USB-C connections.

Early days yet, I decided to buy this product for my MacBook Air to connect all the accessories, external drives, mouse, etc. It works great, although I haven’t had the time to test every single port on it yet. My only concern is heat. Even if the charge though cable is not connected this hub can get quite hot. To be fair, it says on it that it would but it’s a bit too hot for me. A nice hub that does the job well. If you are using it with the MacBook Air (M1) just keep in mind, the hub requires 15W to run which will not leave enough power for your MacBook to charge if power is routed through the hub. I resolved this easily enough by buying a 45W charger.

This Hub looked perfect for my setup, I have a MacBook Pro M1and needed extra ports to run my office as I needed it to run, but initially was put off by some reviews on here in particular the one saying the Ethernet port did not work on a M1 MacBook (it does work)

So my set up as photos,

On the rear I have Power in from my MacBook charger, a Type C out to my external Drive/Hub, HMDI to my Monitor

    On the front
Usb 3 to another External Drive, USB3 to my Webcam

The Hub is daisy chained to a second Hub as photo, this Hub contains an internal SSD Drive and extra ports and all ports on the second hub including card reader work without issue

With all port running the Hub is never hot it is cosy warm to the touch not any excessive heat at all

The MacBook M1 charges fast the webcam works as it should and my second storage drive is quick and responsive

I can recommend this Hub I use all ports and even daisy chain another heavy duty Hub to it all without any issues

So that’s my experience its a 5Start device and well worth the money

I have used Anker products for some time and think their quality is really good.
This hub however has had some problems, with interference in video quality and sound transmission throughput. I contacted customer service (via Amazon) and was amazed at how efficient they were. Straight to the point, no excuses and immediately arranged for a new unit to be dispatched.
We all hope that electrical equipment works without a problem, but the measure of a good company is when something doesn’t go to plan, they fix it without making you fight.
They have a more loyal customer in me as a result.

I have long been a fan of Anker battery packs, speakers, and cables, so it seemed logical to buy an Anker hub for my new M1 MacBook Pro. It worked straight away and has continued working since. What more can I say?

The only minor negative is the cable – it’s too short for me, so I had to buy a USB-C extender cable to move the hub a few more inches away from the laptop. Now the hub and its various attached cables sit well clear of my Mac.

Using this on my M1 MacBook Pro I have had 2 SSD drives and a graphics tablet plugged in at the same time without a power cable which Is impressive but what I like the most about this hub and what makes it probably the best one on Amazon is you dont lose a port in fact you gain an extra one.

Normally the charger would take up one leaving me only 1 left, this hub has a charger port and a separate usb c port for data so I still have two working usb c ports even when my laptop is on charge plus obviously the addition of the other 2 USB ports.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAfter doing a fair bit of research into hubs to give me more flexibility for a desk setup with my MacBook Pro, this came out on top in terms of affordability and functionality. I didn’t want to go down the 400+ route of an all singing thunderbolts 3 dock, but I needed something that would essentially allow me to minimise the number of cables going into the MacBook (to reduce desk clutter) whilst letting me plug in the accessories I use daily. This just about does the job, my only gripe in terms of missing ports was a 3.5mm audio, but with a mini usb to 3.5mm adaptor this can be easily fixed ) or just concede to plugging speakers straight into the Mac still, or go for wireless speakers (where does it end?!)

The hub does get warm whilst operating, but this is understandable given that it’s passing power through to both operate whatever devices are plugged in alongside pass through charging if you have a mains adaptor plugged into the power delivery port. I didn’t find the heat excessive though, just don’t use the hub in a tight spot without adequate cooling.

Design-wise, the only issue I have (same with all hubs and docks I had researched around this price range & with this form factor) was that the cable could have done with being longer and more flexible, as this proved to be a pain at times when trying to achieve that desk minimalism look. This can be resolved with a usb extension cable however (off you plan to have the hub housed out of sight further away).

Finally, the first hub I received seemed to have issues in not powering down when I turned my Mac off, this subsequently kept my connected external drives spinning for no reason (not good!) a few emails to Anker Support though and they happily sent me a replacement no problem.

So all in all a good, solid hub for the price, but has its limitations in terms of flexibility and positioning.

It works reliably. Gets slightly warm when using power delivery. I am a bit upset about 4k output from HDMI. Allegedly, it supports 4k60hz but is only 4k30hz for my laptop. This is probably because this requires a new DP1.4 standard support from the laptop (mine only has DP ALT mode). Apparently, if you want a USB-C dock with better DP compatibility then you must get a thunderbolt one. DP1.4 is present on newer laptops like those M1 Apple ones.
I still decided to keep this because it works very well otherwise. I use a separate USB-C port on my laptop for video output.

All working well. The unit does get rather hot after a while, but the length of the connecting cable is decent enough so that you can place it somewhere where there’s plenty of air to circulate. It’s certainly never been a problem for me.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersUpdate 15th April:

After contacting Anker customer support they happily sent me a replacement and an additional hub as a way to say sorry. I have been testing these new hubs for almost a week and they work great! Right now i’m using it with a 1080p 75 Hz monitor, a wireless headset USB dongle, a USB keyboard, and a USB C pendrive and everything works great.

I’m updating my review to 5 stars because of the amazing customer support and because with this replacement everything works great!

    ===================================================
First thing I did upon receiving my Power Expand 8-in-1 Hub was plugging it it to my Dell G3 3590 USB C port and plugging my monitor to check whether the video output was 1080p@75 Hz (the maximum supported by my monitor) and it worked great for the couple minutes I tested. Then I checked if Samsung Dex was working with my S10e and it was also working fine.

The next day before plugging in all my devices to it I noticed the hub was recognized as a 2.1 USB HUB and a Billboard Device (I don’t know what that is). I tried to plug in my Keychron Keyboard and my PS Gold Headset Dongle and that’s where the issues began. The keyboard wasn’t being detected at all, and the sound in my headset was working intermittently. Upon several tries plugging and unplugging my USB devices, my keyboard got to work but also intermittently and so was the sound from my headset. My Pendrives were not detected at all.

In the attached video you will see what happens as I’m writing this. Somehow, even before plugging any USB devices Windows acts as if I was “plugging” and “unplugging” the HUB, and you can see that when plugging in my keyboard it works for just a couple of seconds and then stops working.

As you can also see everything works great when connected to a cheaper regular Anker 4-Port Ultra Slim USB 3.0 Hub that I have been using for a couple of months.

This is the first Anker product that has failed me after years of buying their chargers (portable, wireless and AC), cables, and Hubs.

    PRO:
    – Prezzo
    – Output video
    – USB 3.1 Gen2
    – Power delivery fino a 100w (-15w riservati all’hub) che funziona anche con periferiche connesse/hdmi out

    CONTRO:

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI am exploring ways to make my iPad behave like a laptop, and with this little device, I am on my way. One of my primary concerns is that sometimes I have to troubleshoot routers at other people’s homes. So I tried it out on my home. I found that I had to install an app from the manufacturer to make it work, then I had to reboot the router. Then, I got an amazing interface that was not the same as the interface on my laptop. It told me that I need a firmware update, but at this point, I am more comfortable doing the update on my laptop. One quirk I don’t understand is that I plugged the PD port into my power cube, and the iPad told me it wasn’t charging. That isn’t good. I might have to return it and shop for a different brand. The newer Apple devices are awfully picky as to where they get their power from.

Update: I found the email for Anker customer support, sent an email, and they got right back to me. Here is what they said:

“Please first know: Due to the power input limitations of mobile devices, this hub can not provide pass-through charging to tablets (including iPad Pro/Air) or phones when using the original wall charger that came with your mobile device. To support full-speed charging for iPad Pro/Air, use an adapter that supports at least 15V (45W).”

I found that the 3 foot power cord that Apple sent me is nowhere near long enough for charging while using the dock, so I sent away for a 45W charger and a 10 foot USB-C to USB-C charging cable that was compatible with iPad. Please be aware that Apple has circuitry embedded in the cord and you cannot use just any cord. The equipment I got was this:

    Charger https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B083BRKMJQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Cord https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LF1FNRV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cords are not rated in either volts or watts, so I sent another email to Anker asking if a 3 amp cable would work, and they told me that it should. Pay attention to the amperage when purchasing a cable to go with a high wattage charger.

The cord that I purchased also comes in a 15 foot length. If this rig works, I will also purchase the 15 foot cord. The reason being that sometimes I need to do stuff in other people’s houses, and I cannot count on a nearby outlet.

I will update when the new equipment comes.

Update: I installed a 45W charger with a USB-C TO USB-C cable that was advertised for iPads, and now my iPad is charging through the PD port, so that problem is taken care of.

I sold the iPad and bought a 2019 MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro has four Type C USB ports only, no others. I use one of the ports on the Mac for charging and another for the hub. I use the Type 3 USB ports on the hub for my mouse and graphic tablet. I like wired mice, because they use a wire for power, are more reliable, and do not generate dead batteries to pollute the environment. I wish the hub had an additional Type 2 or 3 USB port. Maybe I will buy an additional adapter, because I can’t find a hub that sports the extra ports. I looked for a mouse that would plug into a USB C port, but did not find one to my taste. I like wired keyboards for the same reason I like wired mice.

At any rate, all these wires that will not plug directly into my computer makes kind of a clutter, as depicted in my photo. Not much I can do about it at this stage of the game, however.

Like It, but it required additional equipment to charge iPad Air 4

Bought this for my iPad Pro because the wifi would sometimes drop during video calls so I needed something more reliable. This worked great for a few months but then the Ethernet was essentially non functional. After a lot of swapping and testing I realised that charging was also a problem and then discovered one of the usb cables I was using was faulty. It is really important to use high quality and high power cables with this hub.

I can’t watch movies on a big screen with the hdmi because copyright restrictions from Amazon prime and many other services block the ability.

With my anker PSU powering this hub I could see 30W powering and charging the iPad

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis thing could boil an egg when all ports are in use, but for context I’m able to run a monitor with the 4K HDMI, charge my M1, sidecar to an iPad, connect a printer and logitech unifier via usb and connect an ethernet – and incredibly I still have a usb-c port free on the M1.

The usb-c slot (non-powered) started becoming buggy after ~2 months but replaced with a new one. Excellent purchase for M1 owners.

I left a poor review before, this product is a great all in one hub. A great things is that my hard drives don’t get bottlenecked on read and write speed however I have still found that if you use any hard drive other than an ssd the device doesn’t provide enough power without have a mains lead plugged in. Anker’s customer service was absolutely brilliant sending out a replacement to my first unit which had a few issues. They have also check up recently to see how the replacement is working. I will still continue to use anker products as they’re great quality, from a company that cares

Alles bestens.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAnker replaced the unit free of charge to me. I still had the same problem until I discovered the following:

The laptop was not going in to sleep mode, however; the Anker unit would disconnect intermittently. I experimented by turning off sleep mode in the Dell 2 in 1 BIOS. After this the Anker hub worked fine and did not disconnect. Also, I found that by turning off Sleep mode (S3) in the Bios that all of the Power Options became available in Windows 10, including being able to disable USB Selective Suspend.
***By disabling sleep mode in the BIOS I am now able to run UBUNTU and Pop_OS on my external NVME drive connected to the Anker hub at USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds ##without the hub intermittently disconnecting## while I am running Linux.

Very Happy now with my Anker 8 in 1 Powerexpand !!!

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersEine kurze Rezi bzw.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersGreat features and quality, but it’s not very power efficient. The hub itself consumes 15W of power, I don’t understand why it needs that much power to be honest.

For comparison, I have another cheap 7-in-1 hub, about 1/3 of the price, almost the same config, just lacking the extra usb-c data port. I can use that cheap hub, with a merely 10W charger, to power the new Google TV + USB thumb drive + USB webcam + wired ethernet, all together!!

Unfortunately, Anker 8-in-1 is the only usb hub that has the extra usb-c data port I can find, so I have to keep it.

    ==========
    Update:
I realized that while this hub consums more power, it does perform better than other cheap alternatives. I havne’t done much thorough testing on all ports, I can confirm that at least the card reader is a lot fasters than a much cheaper “Amazon’s choice” usb hub of similar configuraiton. I wanted to test it against that 7-in-1 power-efficienct hub mentioned in my previous review, but I’m too lazy to to unplug everything from my Google TV to do the test. I suspect that Anker will most likely outperform that hub. All things considered, changing my review from 2-star to 4-star.

My second hub in as many days. I am really happy with the Anker hub, it has a great feel and really good port selection, I do have to say though for the cost I would love to see a metal body like the Ugreen product, and a braided cable which I feel adds better durability. Companies have come a long way in recent years at shrink hubs, and the Anker one is one of the most comprehensive I have seen at this size point, especially with 4k 60hz, many others add ports but reduce their 4k output to 30 hz.

The Anker USB C Hub is great, I use it to connect Power, Ethernet, HDMI and USB Memory Sticks when required. I also switch it between my iPad and MacBook Pro. Over all it works great and provides a huge flexibility from a single cable into my MacBook or iPad.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe 4K HDMI port with 60Hz frame rate is just what I needed (30Hz frame refresh more typically on hubs does not work well with my external monitor), and the 100W power delivery is fine with MacBook Pro, and doesn’t run too hot. The Ethernet port is recognised fine on MacBook and iPad-Pro, so all I wanted in a USB-C hub – except for an audio port.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI ordered this Hub because I love Anker’s products and they’ve always been great but this time I was at first disappointed.

First I discovered that no matter which computer I use, I was stuck to Fast ethernet while other devices managed to get Gigabit with the same switch and cable.
Then I found out that the USB-C output port cannot be used to connect a monitor, after a deeper look, I should have realised that since comments did said so. Further research made me realise that only Thunderbolt 3 hubs are capable to offer a USB-C port with video and these are still very pricy.

I contacted Anker support which has always gone above and beyond over the years and they did it again. Within 48 hours a replacement was sent which was received shortly after. The replacement connected immediately in Gigabit.

I was originally not sure to keep it because I wanted to use video over the USB-C so considered switching to the cheaper dual HDMI version but since it can only do 2 x 4K screens at 30Hz instead of 60Hz, I decided to stick with it as the USB-C data port might end up useful over time.

one of my first choices especially since I trust Anker and this hub is very good but the only downside is that it can get quite hot even if you’re only using it for five minutes. Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersI bought the Anker UBC-C hub to have the HDMI monitor, mouse and phone connected. I was able to replace the existing HDMI and phone cable to have the USB-C termination. But connecting the Logitech mouse usb receiver is getting a lot more complicated.

    Pros:
    Extra USB-C out
USB3.2 (a lot of hubs for the moment have only 3.0 capability)
    good port layout
    high power rating
good flex cable to the USB-C connection to laptop
It does have all connections needed including the power pass through. The layout of the ports allows to get the power input and HDMI to the back and mouse/ SD card /UBC 3.2 to the front.
allows reuse of my existing cables without buying a lot of USB-C ones – adapters or cables.
nice textile pouch supplied for carrying it
makes the connections to peripherals a bit tidier

    Cons:
The case gets quite hot even with a lot of space around. Temperature in the centre exceeds 50 C degrees when the ambient temperature is 25C.
I would say could greatly benefit from being in a metallic enclosure rather than plastic.
no thunderbolt capability – but I couldn’t find other hubs with thunderbolt capability
A bit expensive at around 50.

    Good quality USB-C hub

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersWie zu erwarten ein hochwertiges Produkt.

Golden Review Award: 259 From Our UsersOriginal Review (updates below):
    —–
The moment I noticed this thing on Amazon, I bought it and it literally just arrived. Finally, 4K60 over just USB-C with other ports (including making up to 10Gbps available to them) for a reasonable price. Unfortunately, the first two things I’ve done with it were both disappointing. I’ll cut to the chase, the power delivery pass through isn’t working with one of their own chargers.

The first device I tried connecting this with is my Anker PD4 with one USB-C cable as the only thing plugged into it so I can test the truly up to 100W (-15 for its own power) claims. I’ve tried connecting it with Apple’s 2m USB-C charge cable (100w capable) and an equivalent CableMatters cable that also supports 100W. When plugged directly into my laptop, both of these cables immediately start charging it and show up as 100W power sources. When this Anker hub is plugged in and either of them is connected to the power delivery port on the side of it, the laptop does not charge (laptop is a 16″ Macbook Pro, I’ve tried multiple ports just for the heck of it).

My second complaint is that when absolutely nothing is plugged into it, it becomes fairly warm to the touch. Why, when it’s doing nothing, is it hot? I’m clearly not running data or even power through it so I have low hopes for it under load.

The fact that it doesn’t work in exactly the scenario they want it to most (a MacBook Pro with one of their own chargers) seems like a pretty big fail. I’ve got lots of USB-C things though so I thought I’d grab a couple and try those. Using an Apple 96W USB-C charger, the device does pass through power delivery properly. It shows up as providing 79W to the laptop (siphoning off 17W in this instance). I also have a 56W Aukey charger that splits power between a USB-A port and a USB-C port that can provide 45W of power delivery. When plugged into that charger it does appear to work as well and appears in macOS as a 30W power source.

Maybe the problem is the Anker PD4? But it works fine providing power to the laptop directly. Would love to hear from Anker about these two products working together and what I should actually expect. Having it be unreliable for power delivery isn’t great, but power and heat aside (it is getting a little bit warmer now that it’s providing power from the Apple power adapter, but still definitely holdable), the hardware looks and feels good and the cable feels durable. Worth also noting that there’s a white LED ring on the side of it that appears to be always on when it’s plugged in. Don’t know why it needs an LED.

    —–
    Update, June 22, 2020:

I’ve done some more testing and Anker has reached out to me to investigate what might be the issue. I can say that the hub works as I would expect from a quick test with my iPad Pro 11″ with the above functioning chargers. It was able to pass through power with the 96W Apple Charger on the other end to both the iPad port as well as a Magic Keyboard port. The ethernet adapter showed up in iOS settings and an external drive was functional. When connected via the Magic Keyboard, which is a power only connection, as expected it provided only power.

Still no power passthrough of any kind when connected to the PD4.

    —–
    Update July 1, 2020:

I’ve written back and forth with Anker and they’ve sent me a replacement hub. It also doesn’t work with the PD4. I’ve tried multiple USB-C cables but they have also shipped a cable to test with it. For now I’m increasing the review from 2 to 3 stars because I am more and more suspicious about the PD4 and less about this hub. They claim that they have tested the setup I have separately without issue, and I’ve sent video showing the problems I’ve encountered, so the troubleshooting is ongoing.

Have had a chance to use Ethernet on it without issue. Still need to try to test out its throughput when trying to use a 10Gbps USB-C enclosure and a 4K60 monitor at the same time (+ ethernet).

    More updates to come.

    —–
    Update July 10, 2020:

I’ve continued to talk with Anker support and they shipped me a replacement PD4. The one I had was labeled as “Iteration 1” on its barcode, the one I got back was labeled “Iteration 2”. I tested it out and it works perfectly with this hub, passing through the correct amount of power to multiple Macbook Pros and fast charging an iPad Pro. Clearly the fault doesn’t lie with this hub and is instead an issue with the first iteration PD4, so I’m updating my review accordingly. Working with Anker support was great.

I’ve also been able to test USB-C throughput (without driving a display as well so far) and it properly utilizes 10Gbps. I’ve attached some extra images showing various devices connected to it (keyboard dongle, SD card, USB-C 10Gbps external SSD enclosure, USB sound card, ethernet).

Great 10gbps USB-C Hub, worked with Anker support through compat issues with PD4 iteration 1
