Great quality lorica segmentata (Roman legionary’s armour) modelled on imperial armour worn by Roman soldiers between late 1st century AD to early 3rd century AD. This is the Corbridge type A which is made up of 4 compartments: two shoulder guards and two, cylindrical torso halves. This lorica segmentata is made of durable 20g steel and brass.

All the components are connected by straps and buckles. This was the first style of lorica segmentata armor and was the most comfortable to wear. It was also more complicated and difficult to assemble; being composed of about 40 separate plates – 24 in the collar and shoulder units and 16 comprising the torso-girdle section.

The product was ordered from armourers shop based in India and their customer service was superb! Got very quick replies to my pre-sale queries and was informed about the shipping and progress of my order all the way through. The vendor was very polite and helpful. Item was shipped by DHL courier and it took less than 5 days for it to arrive in the UK. No delays or any issues with customs. Parcel was delivered well ahead of the scheduled delivery slot.

Item was very well packaged and protected with plastic foil and bubble wrap. The item was covered in oil to protect it from rust and assembly of the armour was a bit tricky but I managed to put it all together. If it’s your first lorica, then you will definitely need help of someone to put the armour on – especially to fasten the straps and buckles at the rear part of the armour. There is a way to put the armour on yourself and there is a YouTube tutorial on how to do it. You basically have to buckle up and strap the rear part of lorica, then attach one shoulder guard fully and one only partially before putting the full armour on. You have to leave the front part of two torso girdle sections open and strap them on with the lace at the very end. Then atrach one of the shoulder guards to torso plates using the straps.

The armour itself is also quite large and not made for skinny men but it’s not much of a problem because you can adjust the shoulder guards and tighten them up to your preference. I’d recommend wearing the armour on a thick underlayer, e.g. thick tunic or padded gambeson – otherwise it may be a bit too loose. Otherwise, I am very well pleased with the lorica and it certainly has an authentic look and feel to it. It’s an excellent piece of kit for historical reenactment and high end cosplay. Even though it was relatively cheap, it it doesn’t look like a cheap product.

Overall, I would definitely recommend buying this item if you’re a history buff or are a historical reenactor.

Top product, super fast shipping and excellent customer service!

Overall review – 10 out of 10. Highly recommended

You will need to keep this oiled or it will rust; otherwise, fantastic product!
