I absolutely love this machine. So far I’ve cleaned half the (short-pile) carpets in the house and it does an excellent job! The carpets have been down for about 8 years and I was amazed at just how much lint it pulled out of the carpet.
A *slow* back-and-forth movement is all that is needed. Once with the cleaning liquid on, and then three or four more slow back-and-forths to suck up the liquid. The carpet was left slightly damp but in warm conditions it dried in about 24 hours. Expect to do about 3 square metres (not 3 metres square!) with a tankful.
Assembly is quite easy but do expect to do a bit of twisting and pushing to get the handle in the correct position for the screw. You can see if you’ve got it right by looking into the screw hole. Operation and cleaning of the machine is very easy. It feels like a well built and sturdy machine.

Cleans carpets very well, the cleaner has a small tank which had two compartments one for the water and mix and the other collects the dirty water. You have to do Many Many changes during the course of the cleaning but it’s fascinating seeing the dirty it collects knowing your carpets are gonna be cleaned. At times I find I’ve collected too much dirty water before the clean water and mix has finished so when emptying the dirty water I put a cloth in the clean water hole to save losing that when pouring the dirty out. Great cleaner, we bought this because our very old Bissell finally gave up. We have two Border Collies so having something like this is a must for us. We also wanted a cleaner that a hand tool attachment. It is so simple to use compared to our old cleaner, very portable and does a great job. I would even suggest that after a few uses it pays for itself when compared to hiring a machine or getting someone in. There is only one negative point I can make, and that is the water reservoir is small, which means more frequent emptying and refilling with fluid. That said, if it was bigger it would make the machine heavier. Would defiantly recommend it for the price.

Having had experience of three cleaners from another leading brand, and not being happy with the last two, I decided to try Bissell.
It was very easy to put together, very self-explanatory and instructions weren’t even needed really. The machine cleaned my carpets really well and left them quite dry. I will use the Bissell cleaning solution in future, which is much better than the brand I had been using.
Whereas my previous machines were quite cumbersome and difficult to manoeuvre, this behaves more like a vacuum cleaner and is much easier to use. It is a lot lighter than previous machines and a bit quieter. All in all, I’m very pleased with my purchase and have recommended it to family already.
The machine is cleverly designed. For example, there is a single water tank with a flexible membrane in it. You put the cleaning solution in the top and the membrane swells out into the tank to accommodate it. Then as the machine cleans, dirty water squirts into the bottom under the membrane; hence one tank is used for both clean and dirty water. Neat!
Cleaning the machine afterwards turned out to be straightforward also. The tank is carried like a bucket to the sink, tipped out, and then you rinse it thoroughly. The front brushes have a couple of twist locks that you rotate and then lift off the brush cover. You can then easily clean the cover (which was quite hairy) and the brushes.
In summary, so far I am very satisfied. I did also take out Amazon’s insurance because I was fearful of a few “1” reviews where people had experienced that something or other broke or did not work. We’ll see how it goes as time passes. We are using it a lot right now as we have new puppies! Last note about the assembly: you do need to be competent with a screwdriver but nothing more – it was easy and the photos, though small, helped. One tip: when attaching the top hose bracket, you put it into the indentations and *then slide it up* before locking it in place with the screw. They don’t mention about sliding it up a little and to begin with I was baffled by the misaligned screw hole. This wasn’t too hard to figure out though.
So easy to set up it took 5 minutes and it works like a dream it even came with some solution to get you started
Couple of notes, for anyone that is having trouble or has the hose keep falling out of the holders. You get two hose brackets, one screws to the back of the machine and one fits on the handle (before you mount it to the machine.. I saw a guy on a video demonstrating it and he tried all sorts of things to keep it from falling out,. He worked out that the spot cleaning accessory head, fitted in a clip in the centre of the lower hose bracket, which is true, however, it should really be fitted to the hose, then pushed into the clip, on the side of the upper bracket, then the swivel clip turned to prevent it coming out (see first image). Also , just in case, you have the machine running over the cable , pass it through the small clip at the back of the handle, that way it exits from the back of the machine , rather than lower down of the side.
As for using the machine.. This cannot be stated enough.. You have to go VERY slow, it is not like a vacuum cleaner, where yo blast over the carpet and job done.. You need to position the head of the machine at the beginning of a run, power it on, push on the small level in the handle, make one slow pass forward, then one pass back, holding that trigger, this is the wet pass. Now you release the trigger, going slowly forward over the same strip and then slowly backwards, until the machine is back where it started.. I found you can do approximately 2 strips, approx 8 ft in length, before you have to empty the tank and refill.
Our carpet was last cleaned, by so called professionals, back in 2009. So as you can imagine, despite daily vacuuming, it contains a heap of ground in dirt and pet hair, plus the countless stains that accumulate over time.. We even tried that Vanish power, which had ZERO effect. So a couple of days ago, I decided enough was enough, so I bought this and I am so impressed by the results. Having seen so many photos showing a carpet before and after, I realise most are taken from the wrong angle, so the difference is barely noticeable, so I’ve not include a photo yet, as I am doing it in stages, as we only have a small house, and finding somewhere to put the furniture is impossible, but I can assure you, even after almost 10 years of boots , shoes, dog cat, dust and ground in hair, this Bissel Stain Pro 4 is an absolute marvel. In the first image, you can see the carpet, just after I’d completed the central section, so it’s still damp, but when my mother saw the black water, that came out of the tank, she was stunned. I told her I would probably do it twice, as I am sure, even though it looks very much brighter and feels so much softer, there is probably still more ingrained dirt, that this machine could remove.
Anyway, question is, would I recommend this machine and the answer is an unreserved YES. Top quality, excellent performance and I still can’t believe it has done such a fantastic job, even after the first run.

Easy to put together. A real professional result on my cream carpets which were looking decidedly grubby. Not as noisy or fiddly to use as a vax upright I used to own. Pleased with the results.
Easy to assemble took approximately 5 minutes, bit cumbersome but not heavy, and not too noisy, just a little louder than my old Dyson vaccuum. Overall very impressed, carpets clean and dry in around an hour.
After much research and debate, I chose the stain Pro 10. All I can say is wow. It’s amazing. Stains that had been left by other well know carpet cleaners have gone. The larger tank is awesome. Lasts for 2 – 3 decent size rooms.

I always had a different brand of carpet cleaner. (Sounds like Tax ) but an hour of research led me to this beauty.
It does a great job, it’s easy to clean and lightweight while at the same time being ‘beefy’ enough for the task.
I’m now a bissell convert. My head is not for turning.

I am trying to return this item, firstly the drop off point tells me the box is too big they can’t take it.! I arrange for home collection and the Man turns up and says the box is too big.! Hermes delivered it but are refusing to pick up.! What should I do.?

Very good at cleaning our cream coloured carpets and the spot cleaning hand tool works like a dream. The only slight downside is the number of times you have to empty the dirty water container and refill it with hand hot water.

I like to look after things so I give it a good clean ever time I us it . This can be a bit fiddly but werth it , ready for the next time.

On the other hand I don’t personally think the brush bar is as powerful as the VAX (which typically have two brush bars) but its still more than sufficient.
Very easy to assemble. Lightweight. Water capacity is quite small. You need to make 2 or 3 fills to clean a carpet but this helps the machine to give a brake to cool down. The cover of the water tank opened while taking it from the machine so be careful when taking and carrying it.
I have used big rental machines before, this does the same job. This one is even better. It sucks the water back very efficiently. Did not left a wet carpet. It cleaned the carpet nicely, gets the pet hair (I have a cat). Removed some stains as well but not all the stains. Overall I am happy with the job.
Having a small water tank is quite bad. And the material did not seems to be very high quality so I am not sure how long it will be working in good condition. Well you won’t use it everyday, so, in total it was a happy purchase.
This was fiddly to assemble cos the instructions are poor and there is no complete parts breakdown.
Once assembled this is easy peasy to use and I was amazed at its effectiveness. Not much more effort than vacuuming but deep cleans carpets. Attachment use a tad less powerful but still very effective. Only downside is smallish water reservoir.

Saved my 6 year olds carpet she had lipgloss, slime and god knows what else in amongst her carpet, we was going to buy a new carpet for her for the 39302830000th time but decided to give this a go instead and so glad I did, it’s come up like new and will save us alot of money in the future instead of keep replacing carpets, I gave it two go’s just simply because I was buzzing with the results smells so fresh now
So, after being informed that it would be arriving today, I shifted some furniture and hoovered the room in preparation. Anyone who lives in an old, rented house can probably understand my excitement. It arrived with no excessive packaging, boxed as you would see it in a shop with some added cellophane (So if you’re ordering it for a surprise, it won’t be).
I unpacked all of the bits, all present and correct, though it did take a lot longer to put together than it probably should have. Either I was being particularly special or it was the instructions. Though, it is possible for two things to be true. Anyway, the written instructions are kinda vague (attach a to 4 as shown in picture type of deal) and the illustrations are very small, very grainy and I still didn’t care because I finally had my carpet cleaner.
I finally got it all put together and filled with water (Very easy lift out tank) and used the detergent provided to go over some stained areas on a browny gray carpet that I had used the vax rapide carpet cleaner on just 5 days ago.
Firstly, the noise was less of that screaming mechanical undertone that a lot of carpet cleaners have and more like a standard vacuum cleaner level.
Secondly, it was blatantly obvious from the first pass with the cleaner that it was hugely more effective than the last. After a slow and steady session, the area cleaned felt almost dry to the touch and some stains had already been removed, with just a couple extremely stubborn ones remain though not as obvious. As the carpet is not quite dry yet, I’m yet to be able to see if there’s much of a colour difference between the cleaned area and the next to be cleaned one. If the colour of the dirty water is anything to go by, it’ll be a good couple of shades. The detergent provided a nice, fresh smell to the room.
The true test will be a thick, once-cream rug. If it brings that up, then it’s a bargain.
Quick update, the gray (but once-cream) rug has now had 2 goings over with this cleaner (using the same detergent as was supplied) and we couldn’t believe the difference. One added bonus was how the cleaner spits out any hair that is removed from deep inside the fibres. Even after a very thorough vacuuming, this bad boy was still coughing out hairballs quicker than my Persian cat! The rug is now cream in all but one or two stubborn spots and is definitely a lot cleaner, not just cleaner looking. I can’t recommend this product enough.
To replace a Broken cleaner of the same make. The carry bucket is not as easy to replace the lid or to replace in the cleaner but it does a good job.
it was easier to assemble this item with two pairs of hands.
we have found the cleaner very easy to use. our carpets are relatively new and we don’t have children or pets tramping in and out. we did, however, need to use the pre-treat for one or two more stubborn stains, which was successful. this is much easier than hiring a machine or having professionals in as we can do small areas, gradually working our way around, rather than having to move all the furniture in one go.
Just received the Bissell StainPro 4 and used it for the 1st time & I was shocked just how much dirt grit & fluf came out of the carpet, this is dispite regular cleaning with my modern cordless Turbo Stick vac, plus I Vacuumed the carpet just before using the Bissell.
The Bissell StainPro 4 has done a great job so far & was very easy to use.
I have one slight complaint and that is with the instructions, they could be much much clearer, I resorted to YouTube to watch somebody else struggling to assemble it, IN THE END it is very simple to set up

I had friends who had Bissell products and liked them after reading other reviews I decided to get this one as the stair tools were easy to use.
They are but the hose is tiny I had to try and balance the whole machine to wash the stairs it does a good job though and dries quickly, a lot lighter to use than the VAX .
The water bucket could do with being a bit bigger but its easy enough to change the water and get fresh- just means a few more trips to the nearest sink!
So far I am very pleased with this washer. Years of pet stains removed really well.

Only think I would suggest is to buy a load of shampoo at the same time, the included bottles are just a sample size. Also, take your time when cleaning!
100% recommended – very easy to clean under a utility room tap (or an outside tap) – expect lots of fluff, so don’t let it wash down your sink.
