Looks fantastic when buil
When erecting the half moon pond one of the posts was marked the wrong way. Which caused a problem, and had to take apart to do it again, but looked good once it was done.
Great Product - Plan ahaed and watch video before constructing, then easy.
If I had taken notice of some of the reviews I wouldn’t have gone near this product and would have missed out. Its fantastic. Just make sure you plan the installation before putting together, watch the numerous YouTube video’s to help and as long as you follow the helpful tips, assembly is not that difficult.
Beautiful little pond
I put this together myself….. very easy to do…. can’t wait to get fish and plants…
Huge value for money and very sturdy.
Love our pond
So happy with our pond, very pretty. Love the windows. Got every thing you need. Fish are very happy. Thankyou
Love i
I have a reasonably small ,but long ,3 stage garden ,always yearned for a Koi pond .
Ok ,hardly what I dreamed of but there is no other product on the market that can fit any space in such a small space of time for the cost of this product – I ignore the cost of the materials involved – it’s the innovation ,design and production !
Truly remarkable ,I absolutely love this !
Not anywhere near as hard to put together as reviewed here – only things I got wrong where
1) make sure you get leg stays in right position with cross stay holes to the rear
2) make sure window panels are right way up as each other
3) put liner mat protector on top of strengthening wire at end of. Construction
What this item does in the space it takes up is astonishing by design for the price -to pay a tradesman to do the same would cost at least 10 times the price and they would not fit into the space this goes !
The pump is actually an amazing part of it too – LED light,UV filter ,and waterfall pump –
Cannot recommend this highly enough.
Worth the effort.
The quality of this pond is actually very good. the materials are well finished and look as though they will be pretty durable. The product is slightly let down by the instructions which, inspire of the glossy photos, were not too easy to follow. There were a couple of times when I had to dismantle a section that I’d built because a side strut was in the wrong position, or was upside down. Not a huge deal though, as it was a simple matter to take some bits off and put them back on again. I guess it took a couple of hours but, now I know how it’s done, I could probably build one in less than an hour. The finished result is very pleasing and overall I’m happy with the purchase. Bear in mind that you will need to buy two plugs, as the pump and light don’t come with one.
Lovely looking pond once up
Was a bit of a nightmare to assemble but looks lovely when up .Waterfall is a bit noisy and apparently light stays on all night only way to turn off is to remove bulb!. Only had it for a few days but all seems good adding fish in a few day’s
Tricky assembly but sturdy once buil
Had my eye on this for quite a while and bit the bullet and have spent the best part of 5-6 hours assembling the pond. Put it like this, if it wasn’t for a guy putting his assembly on YouTube then I’d probably still be on my knees. The instruction manual is very in depth but that means over complicated, the pictures are not really ideal either. You will also need glasses or a magnifying glass to read the manual. Top tip, disregard the manual and head over to YouTube as it will save you so much time. Get past the assembly dramas, once built its sturdy, another top tip is use a stubby wide flat screwdriver, the tool provided is cheap and nasty and bends to easily. Make sure you have 2 3 pin plugs (uk) to fit. Next is to get it outside and fill with water and enjoy it. I’d say it’s really innovative but needs work on its assembly manual.
Beautiful pond, but boy!! What a pickle to put together 🤯
Firstly I’d like to say that this pond is absolutely amazing, since having it I’ve lost hours just sitting down watching the fish swim past the windows.. it’s soooo tranquil and relaxing I couldn’t recommend it more.. But boy as the reviews said it was a right pickle ( my polite word!!) to put together, the instructions were useless so YouTube helped us a little more, but honestly book out a good long afternoon to do it..
I filled the pond up, put all the right chemicals in it ( pond safe and bought some bacteria from my local garden centre) and left it a week before getting any fish, I bought 3 to begin with and added 1 more a week later and will probably get a couple more, as a man in the garden centre advised about only having 6 to keep it looking nice and low maintenance, but even with 4 they’re constantly at the windows which is lovely..
if you’re undecided about getting one, I’d say this is definitely a fab one, it was a great price and will be a great addition to any garden..
very attractive addition to the garde
he pond was easy to assemble, but I would suggest that two people would make assembly much easier. The pond was not as easy as it showed on the video this made it look quite a simple task. The tool supplied to turn the plastic cam locks was not up to the job, it was so poor it bent while trying to use it. I would suggest the use of a wide screwdriver would be far more suitable. Warming the rattan panels made fitting them easier as they stretched more easily. Overall I am very pleased with the pond and the accessories that came with it, pump filter and led lights. One last comment I do feel the price to be a little high for the size of the pond and the customer could be given the opption of purchasing the pump etc seperately.
Fantastic addition to my garden!
I’m so in love with this pond! I didn’t know above floor level ponds existed but it looks so good and worth every penny! I haven’t got fish yet hope but just can’t wait!!
Just bear in mind additional costs to make water safe for fish – test kits – aquatic moss – plants – safe electric connections and of course fish and food!
Lovely water feature - rubbish instructions!
Our water feature looks really great and the fish seem happy enough, but what a swine of a job to assemble! This isn’t helped by the poor instructions. We’re fairly active 60 somethings, but it took about 4 hours to assemble and because of the instructions I ended up having to drill a hole in one of the uprights because they neglect to mention that they’re not all the same and we didn’t realise until it was about 90% assembled. There are several videos on YouTube which help a bit, but it was worth it in the end.
Two weeks later the fish and plants are thriving and seem very happy. It’s lovely to see the fish from a side view as well as from above. It’s a bit like having an outdoor aquarium.
Looks great but do not underestimate the assembly
I read all the reviews for this before I bought it and each one mentioned how hard it is to assemble. I went with it anyway. The reviews were not exaggerating. It’s really hard to put together. Even with two grown men they struggled to pop the supports together and it took them a solid 6 hours. Looks great when it’s done though!
OK this is my first review on Amazon. I hope it helps in your decision to purchase or not. When parting with 400 i was naturally nervous as money is hard earned so i wanted to be sure my money was well spent. I read through the reviews and my opinion was that people are generally happy with the product itself, but not with the assembly. So lets clear up the quality first as this is easy. Once assembled, it looks very good, sturdy, and a pleasure to be part of any patio or garden and yes i am very happy with mine.
Lots of negative comments on the assembly. I have mixed opinions on these but everyone is different so no disrespect to others.
First part of any installation is the planning. You do need 2 13amp plug supplies for the pump and the light as they work independently from 2 cables. Not a big deal you just have a think about your location. You may need to do some extra work upfront? Nothing complicated with this. My personal choice was to connect to my kitchen electrical circuit with the use of some Tapo wifi sockets you can buy from Amazon, very reliable i have loads of them controlling various devices with Alexa. But you don’t have to be all techy, just make sure the Electrical installation is safe! You could just leave it plugged into an RCD protected outside waterproof socket, upto you.
The build for me took no longer than 1.5hrs. I laid out all of the parts to familiarise myself with the contents and got rid of packaging and rubbish so i knew what i was dealing with.
Tools needed if you want to be specific are a nylon mallet and 4mm punch. Or for the non technical people a hammer and a big screwdriver. Once you plan your location, lay down the white ground sheet supplied in the box. This is designed to stop the liner from getting punctured on un-even ground but really it isn’t thick enough for that so i added extra astro turf and recommend everyone to do this. The white groundsheet is great for assembly and will stop the frame from being scratched. When you put the uprights in place, make sure you put them in the right way. I have tried to show on my pics. The top or closest to the sky should have the angled slots showing.
Assembling the frame is the part i believe everyone doesn’t like. For the ladies out there yes you will break your nails and better to ask hubby for some assistance. Attaching the metal braces is tough and you will have sore fingers. Not because the parts are wrong or badly made, but simply because the frame does have to be tight so it is made in such a way. Having a wobbly frame holding a large volume of water something will break and fail. So this is the reason you have to really push and pull to get the fixings in. Once in place you will understand why and you will note a solid frame.
Sliding in the panels is straight forward, you just need to take your time as they are tight! Once you get them in, get your mallet and punch and just tap them all the way in so they are past flush. If you don’t you won’t get your feet on!! Tried to show this on the pics. Inserting the liner is straight forward but again tricky on your fingers but this is still best rather than being a loose fit. So once assembled you can fill it up!
It’s been a long time since i kept fish, don’t think the funfair give them out anymore as a prize like they did when i was a child…….You need to do some prep work. First thing is to de-chlorinate the water because tap water will actually kill the good bugs needed. This takes 24hrs to settle. Then you need to introduce more good bugs which are needed to to eat the fish poo and ammonia created by your fish. This is all to keep your water clear. This takes 5 days to settle. After 7 days you need to test your water chemical levels which is easy with dip strips. If everything is OK you are good to introduce your fish. My fish supplier is a national chain and have insisted i show them my water test results before giving me the fish. You can scan your results into an app that is on the packet very easy. I’m not saying all fish suppliers will request this but not a problem, you wouldn’t want to spend 50 on fish for them all to die 3 days later. The chemicals i used as recommended by my fish supplier i have put pics up and all available here on Amazon.
Summary is the finished product is very good. Haven’t given it 5*, not because anything is wrong with it because there isn’t, but just because of the price. 400 really is a lot of money and it probably cost about 150 to make in materials. That really is the only negative point i have to make.
I’ve recently moved and had a pond and didn’t want to leave my fish behind. It was only by chance I found these ponds on Amazon, and so glad I did. Blagdon’s has for many many years been the best for aquatics and they again did not disappoint. I love the fact that everything was included apart from the plugs and I also love that you have the choice of the waterfall or fountain and at night the light is lovely. I also like the fact that you have a 3 year guarantee. Also if you decide you don’t want to have a pond anymore you can just dismantle it. Would seriously recommend any of their products.
Good quality
Very good quality, slightly tricky tensioning to fit twist peg fittings, but goes together well
Fish like i
Good quality product which went together well. A bit on the expensive side but we are happy with the result.
I had some issues with a design fault. There is a wire that connects the front to the back to hold the back wall in place and stop it bowing outwards. After a week, when full of water and fish, the wire snapped. Getting a replacement was impossible. The main supplier dies not talk to retail customers, or reply to any emails. After lots of communications with Amazon, they sent me a while new pond, just so I could take the wire from it. And then have to arrange to send this huge box back. To change the wire meant emptying the tank and removing the fish, this meant I had to spend a further 60 on 3 X 75lt buckets and changing the rest of the water.
So although the pond is great, looks great and and had a great liner, customer support is non existent.
Looks good
Beautiful and functional once put together. But you 2 people to put it together. Instructions for the pump are not exactly clea
It will take longer than 1 hour but worth it.
Looks great when finished, instructions are not the clearest but got it together without to much trouble.
LOVE IT!!!
A little tricky to put up but well worth the effort. To those novices like I was I advice educating yourself on fish keeping before you set up then you can avoid things like “green water” plus weekly or fortnightly maintenance (All be it minimal) will be required. This is a wonderful edition to any garden and I’m so glad I got it, my only regret is that I should have got the bigger one.
Should of be easy to put together, but ended up being harder then it looked on the video, but got there in the end, looks really nice , but being in a hard water area , the windows cloud over with limescale and the sponges don’t remove it, been told to empty water past the windows remove fish and to use either vinegar or lemon juice , Iv not tried this yet, think of this pond as a large tank, it needs to be cleaned regularly and water changes especially if it’s in a sunny spot.
Focal Point of our Patio
Can be a struggle putting it together but one done and filled with water you will be very pleased with it. We conditioned the water for about a week and added plants and fish over a two week period. It is our focal point on our patio. Cleaning and changing 10% of the water is now a routine every couple of weeks and takes me less then half hour. I would definitely recommend i
Beautiful water feature
Although the pond was quite difficult to put together even with the help of YouTube it is well worth the effort. It is well made and sturdy. The water fountain at the back is a lovely feature.
It really does look lovely in our garden. Very pleased and I would definitely recommend Blagdon ponds.
Very good quality
Excellent product easy to assemble looks fantastic and the fish love i
Great birthday prese
Brought this as a birthday present x well pleased with our purchase excellent if you haven’t got room for a pond in garden x oops very nice with when all set up
First of all I need to point out that the instructions are a joke. According to the instructions each part is labelled in order to make assembly easier. The parts were not labelled as such – well they did have some labels which did not help with the finer points of construction. For example some of the uprights had extra holes in them and nowhere on the instruction did it mention the importance of these holes. We discovered, once the pool was virtually complete, that the uprights needed to be in place for the strengtheners to fit – this means one upright needed the holes at the top whilst another needed the holes at the bottom. This was frustrating to say the least.
The pump shows that you can choose to have the fountain or the waterfall. It turns out that you can only have the waterfall as the bits needed for the fountain did not fit – too large for screwing on. Bad packaging, bad design or just plain bad company – who knows.
OK that’s all the bad stuff. As far as the finished product is concerned I could give that the full 5 stars as it looks good, and the fish love it. But in all honesty, giving the whole package 4 stars is pushing it.
Finally, without the help of YouTube we would have never been able to assemble it properly, even with that help we had to disassemble bits and re-build to get all the bits to fit.
Quite pleased with this product.
Only reason I haven’t given it 5 starts is as follows;
– No plugs provided. So had to buy two three-pin plugs (one for pump & LED light, second for UV filter) to wire on, so I could test / use. Ended up buying a IP66 outdoor switch, and wiring to that (I feel safer that way, so if my hands are wet for whatever reason, I don’t electrocute myself when switching on or off / unplugging for maintenance etc).
– Instructions were okay, but not the clearest. Partly my own stupid fault for not checking, but half way through, I realised two pieces in the wrong place, so the supporting bars didn’t line up correctly, so had to partially dismantle to correct my mistake. So i’m blaming the instructions for that.
– Waterfall is quite noisy. Were we live is old biddy central. You could hear a mouse fart 3 miles away. It’d be great if the waterfalls height could be adjusted, or if the funnel had a “smooth” water flow option, so it isn’t as noisy. We’ll probably take off the waterfall and attach the fountain instead, but for now, had fashioned an old pond sponge with some twine to silence the fall. A minor point, but something I felt I should mention.
Other than that, the pond has been okay thus far (nearly a month of being active).
Looks good
I thought this product was easy to put together until I realised the filter and fountain have no plugs on, need 2 sockets and only had one outside socket, so bit of a pain. However once got new outdoor waterproof socket and plugged it in was really happy with it.
Brought this as wanted to add a water aquatic feature to the garden, But my god was it stressful putting it together, Instructions weren’t the clearest and some of the parts were labelled wrong, But once all set up looks lovely 🙂 … (just as a heads up make sure you order 2 plugs as it’s just bare wires)
Very Good
Arrive in time. Assembly instructions could be a bit better worded. Didn’t take to long to put together. Kids love watching the fish an looks the part in the garden.
Real Class
Always wanted to have a pond but didn’t want to dig up the garden, this is a good alternative, classy stuff and looks real good, fish seem happy
Great pond and very easy to look after, I wash my filter sponges out once a month, replace the white filter sponge every couple weeks and the water is always very clear and no fish lost, great addition to a garden and as it is free standing it goes on our patio very easily and. Good price from Amazon delivered next day so no complaints A+++++
Very good value for money superb
Fantastic item would only recommend itVery good value for money superb
Great idea but plan plenty of building time!!
It’s a lovely addition to our deck area but I agree with everyone else that putting it together was a nightmare! We had to leave 2 support brace bars off because the holes weren’t aligned properly (no matter how much we messed around with it). Now it’s built we just pray it holds up! The fish love it and the small daisy fountain is pretty. The waterfall was quite loud so we’ve left that unconnected. I’m pretty sure the advert said that the kit came with a water chemical treatment and special wipes- it doesn’t come with the treatment and it doesn’t come with the window wipe clothes either. We bought them off Amazon Prime so we could get started.
Great little pond for small garden.
Great pond with everything you need for a small garden.
Frustrating to put together.
Now its up and the fish are enjoying the extra space and we are enjoying seeing the fish, we are happy we made the purchase. Putting it together however was frustrating and the instructions far from adequate. TG for you tube once we found the right model.
Great product - poor instructions.
Great product poor assembly instructions. They miss out crucial details at various points meaning a couple of times we had to undo what we had already done in order to assemble correctly – very frustrating and time wasting. Honestly I could write better instructions than these – i’m sure most people could – I can only think that whoever wrote these simply did not idiot test them once written. Instructions aside, we are very pleased with the results. It has a decent quality feel about it, looks rather nice and works out of the box – I have no reason to think that it will not continue to do so.
We are really pleased with this product which makes a focal point on our patio, and is so much better than the patio pond it replaces. Putting the pond together from its flatpack is a bit of a challenge – you have to give yourself time to think about what you are doing and to interpret the instructions (which could be clearer), but overall the build is achievable and satisfying. I would say that this has been one of the better purchases that we have made this year and we would recommend it to any serious fish keepers.
Nice looking addition to the garde
Lovely once assembled but a nightmare to put together, took approx 4 hrs to assemble.
its a fabulous addition to our garden love sitting watching the fish and it lights the garden ...
we bought this with our wedding present money, its a fabulous addition to our garden love sitting watching the fish and it lights the garden up lovely at night time
A bit fiddly to put together, some parts are a tight fit and needs two people. Makes an outstanding, attractive feature in the garden and is much commented on. A solid, horizontal base is needed
If all that’s needed is a small pond this is a much better alternative to a sunken pond. The fish frequently come to the windows at feeding times.
Blagdon Affinisty Half Moon Pond
We bought one from out local garden centre and I love it. We did have some difficulty with assembly, mainly getting the lining onto the last hook, as it kept popping of others! My husband worked up a proper sweat! Also a warning sticker on the middle window when removed has damaged the plastic porthole, I am disappointed with this but after the time took to assemble I can live with it or face the divorce court if he had to do it again!
Still have to sort out the gravel etc. around the pond and add more plants and add goldfish but on the whole I am very pleased with the look.
My husband and I bought this after seeing one in a local garden centre. When we asked the salesman if it was easy to put together he said no because the instructions aren’t clear. This didn’t put us off but we did find what he said to be absolutely true when we got ours! It took us over 5 hours to build but I think it would have taken half the time if the instructions were better written. However, some pieces were also very tricky to click together. You build it upside down and then turn it over, and we found the top edges (that make the half moon shape) didn’t fit into each other very easily at all. Another flaw was that the supporting leg for the back of the pond arrived with a set of holes only drilled at one end, and it needed holes at both ends, so my husband had to drill the holes at the other end himself! But we got there eventually, moved it outside and filled it up. We were only going to use the waterfall fountain at the back originally but when we turned it on we found it to be very loud as the water came out and into the pond, so we also added the bell fountain attachment and split the water pressure between them both so that the drop of the water from the waterfall wasn’t as noisy. The following day we added four 5-6″ koi and it’s really fun to watch them swimming through the three windows at the front. As we’ve only had it a few days so far I can’t comment yet on how clear the water stays and how often the pump etc. needs cleaning, but we are hoping for it to be fairly low maintenance. It’s a great addition to our outside space, especially as we don’t have a very big garden, and I would definitely recommend one to anyone who wants a pond but nothing too big.
Faulty led lightsenso
This is a great pond. Needs two people to set it up as can be a bit tricky. Working great apart from the led light doesn’t turn off so I don’t think the sensor works as only supposed to come on when dusk and go off at dawn. Had two very sunny days since set it up 2 days ago and light not gone off yet.
Great product but difficult to assemble
Absolutely fabulous and I love it on the downside it did take three people and 3 1/2 hours to resemble no point in the instructions to tell you that you start upside down rather confusing it’s a great projec
Looks great water settles down after a couple of weeks because when it’s green you wonder why you bothered but it’s good now fish growing well
where you can enjoy your fish
This is a lovely standing pool, where you can enjoy your fish. It is difficult to put together and you will need two people. This is easier to maintain than a traditional pond.
Agree with other reviewers with difficulties in fixing the final support bars as need to stretch the side walls by about 5 inches which is impossible by hand. My solution was to but a clamp/spreader from B & Q for 12 which did the trick. Would be good for a similar tool to be included within the pack.
“It can’t be that hard to put together” the wife said. “I’ve looked on Youtube and there is a slip of a girl putting it together quite easily.” I’d like to meet this Amazon. It is hard to put together and I say that as an engineer and the proud winner of many an Ikea flatpack build skirmish. The instructions are clear enough. It’s executing them that’s the problem. The bracing struts are the biggest challenge in that you have to physically force them in. And, in my case, springing the flimsy plastic fasteners apart just when it looks like you might suceeed. . I ended up replacing them with coach bolts and it made for a much firmer base. Then I used a piece of wood between the struts to lever them apart -about 1.5 inches – enough to fit them. I wasn’t too keen on the feet being used as anchors for the restraining cable. They seemed to drop off too easily. As was proved when I was filling the pool and the middle foot on the back wall shot off and released the cable. After emptying the pool, I threw caution to the winds and fitted a made to measure restraining bar across from front to back. A simple bar with the ends bent at right angles to act as stops. As an added precaution I fixed it in place with two more coach bolts. (The ones with the flatttened heads and the heads facing the liner). This didn’t pose any risk to the liner and it certainly firmed up the whole structure. There were no mishaps when filling this time.
Now it is up and running I am more than pleased with the results. We sited it under our roofed over arbour and it looks great. The grand children love it and it is much safer for them being above ground. It looks best at night with the light on.
Would I buy another or recommend one? Yes and no. Yes, after all the hassle of building it, it is a nice addition to the garden. Would I be taken in by the Youtube video? No. It takes time and a lot of effort to assemble and make sturdy enough for purpose. If you are not very strong, adaptable and have a lot of patience then get someone who is to assemble it for you.
The end result does justify all the hassle.
Who writes these instructions? Certainly nobody who has actually put one of these ponds together. This is the second pond I have owned, the first one needed replacing as the liner was deteriorating and the pump playing up. It was cheaper to buy a new pond than replace items. Apparently it takes two hours to build the pond. It took five hours! Instructions are not really clear and attaching the metal bars was very difficult. Definitely a two man job. In my opinion the original pond was more sturdy and better made than this one. The bottom of these panels are already fraying. However. I still love these ponds. They look lovely and double up as a water feature due to the waterfall and fountain feature. My goldfish moved over to their new home happily.
Lovely all in finished product. Warrning, when assembling ...
Lovely all in finished product. Warrning, when assembling the bottom leg braces it is a two man job to pull the legs into line as there is a difference of approx. 1.5 inches to the holes on the braces. Also the push on feet fall off when fitting the bottom bracing wire, they need a proper fixing.
I purchased this for my wife’s birthday. She is very pleased with the pond now it is assembled. However putting the pond together took over 4 hours. The instructions are good but a lot of brute strength is required to tension the frame. I think unless the lady in question was a Russian weightlifter most females would struggle assembling this product, especially if they were on there own. The pair of us got there in the end but on occasions the air was very blue.
Definitely a sense of achievement when it is full of water and fish.
I had a very helpful chap to erect this and yes it wasn’t that easy. However finally was up and running last night. It looks absolutely beautiful. The waterfall effect is very pretty and not too noisy, just very gentle so won’t annoy any neighbours when on. I have to wait a week before introducing any fish. I bought extra plant pods x 2 and feel without these extra plants wou!d not look as nice. The pump and filters look very good and seem very efficient. Delivery was excellent and overall I am very pleased with this porduct and would certainly purchase again.
Great idea, good quality , fish seem to like it, they spend much of the time at the windows. It’s not the easiest thing I’ve put together and the cross braces nearly got the better of me, but patience and perseverance paid off and it’s well worth the effort. I ordered mocha and got black, although the packaging said mocha, by the time I realised it, I was too far down the line to start over. There was no water treatment included and the cleaning pads were missing but apart from that I am really pleased with it.
The pool has turned out to be a fabulous finished product and looks great on the patio but it was a lot more difficult than expected to erect that’s why I only gave it a 4 star rating. The pump and waterfall are very efficient and the fish seem happy about the move from their garden pond.
