    Makes amazing coffee
We wanted a coffee machine that didn’t take pods. This is amazing and has a milk frother as well. It is ideal for just making one or two coffees. Very pleased with it. Great value and easy to clean.

Produces decent coffee but making a latte takes a while.
This is a very simple coffee machine. It’s pretty basic but this also makes it pretty easy to use. I do wish the espresso shot size was automatic but manual control does have its advantages. It still did a decent job of producing an espresso shot with good crema but it’s still far off what you would get from proper professional grade machine so you need to adjust your expectations accordingly. The steam wand works surprisingly well and after some practice to get the best vortex going in the milk, I can now produce lovely velvety milk. There is quite a bit of waiting though as you have to wait for it to heat up especially when making multiple drinks, but for a machine in this price range that’s pretty normal. It’s a reliable little machine though so definitely one worth considering.

    Fantastic!
I just got this espresso maker and im really pleased with it! I had a Delonghi one, which gave me nothing but trouble, the steam wand was useless and i never quite got a perfect flat white! I love frothed milk and this machine makes excellent coffee and frothing the milk is very easy. It is simple to use and im impressed with it given the relatively cheap price for an espresso machine.

    Excellent coffee machine
This is a fantastic coffee machine for the price. It’s a great option if you’re looking to switch from using a pod machine and get started with using ground coffee. Whilst I wouldn’t give 5 stars for the build quality it’s no issue as the machine looks great, makes a great coffee and the milk frother works very well. If you’re a coffee expert who likes to get into all the brew ratios etc. go for a more expensive brand but I think for most people this machine would be more than enough.

Great taste but lots of effo
You can produce incredibly tasty coffee from the machine, but it takes effort
I personally prefer to let the machine to all the work if I can, and this isn’t quite taking all of the work from you
Steaming milk is easy and can produce a great tasting latte with this machine

    Good starter coffee machine
Would really recommend this coffee machine as a starter machine! Really simple to use and makes good coffee! Only cons for this is sometimes it struggles to make 2 espresso shots one after another as it can over heat and needs to cool down for a little while (this isn’t every time just every so often). You also have to manually stop the espresso pouring (would recommend buying a measuring glass for single/double measure on), but for the price point I really don’t mind that.

    Very good coffee machine
Very good coffee machine that while it doesn’t have the functionality of more expensive models, still produces a good range of coffee quite easily, and doesn’t take up a lot of space on one’s worktop. Four stars.

    Good steamer wand
The product description said it would auto stop pouring the coffee shot and this is not the case, you manually have to stop it. So that was a little disappointing but not the end of the world. The crema game is not strong on this machine in comparison to other machines I’ve had in the past, but it does the job

However, the steamer wand is far superior given the price so I’m happy with that. It works every time and isn’t a massive battle unlike other machines I’ve used.

For a basic, perhaps first coffee machine this one does the job well. I’d recommend

    Great cup of coffee!
I’d used a filter and a pod machine for many years but both were tired and owed us nothing. We decided to replace both with a more capable coffee maker. We liked the features and appearance of the Breville Bijou and decided for our modest coffee needs (total of 3-4 cups a day) this would do the job. We have not been disappointed. Initially I was not impressed by the lack of heat in the drink, but soon realized that the problem was not with the machine but the very cold temperature of the milk. Solution – warm the milk in the microwave for 15-20 seconds and brew the coffee! Excellent temperature and delicious taste and texture. I actually use less coffee and probably less electricity than the filter machine, so I feel that the Breville has been a winner in every way.

    Great coffee machine
This is a great coffee machine. I had a little trouble with it at first getting the coffee just right but I think that was to do with the type of coffee j was using. The machine is easy to use, instructions are nice and dimple to follow. Easy to clean too. The machine looks great in my kitchen, I love it.

    Great for the price!
First impressions were great, it comes in nice packaging with the coffee machine pictured on the box. The instructions are easy to follow and it’s a quick, simple setup. Everything feels like it’s of high quality and once assembled it’s a very neat, compact and smart looking machine!

I love how easy it is to use, you just fill the water container up and add ground coffee to the espresso filter, choosing from either the one or two cup size, then press the button for the espresso. You do need to wait a few minutes for it to warm up, but once it’s ready the light stops flashing and you turn the dial to the left and the coffee pours out. If you want to make streamed milk after, just press the streamer button, wait for it to warm up then turn the dial to the right and it will begin steaming.

My only constructive criticism is that there is a little bit of waiting around for the machine to warm up, particularly if you are making a latte/cappuccino/flat white style drink. Unfortunately by the time you finally get to drink the coffee it’s not as hot as I would ideally like. It’s also a shame there isn’t espresso measuring cups or a jug for the milk streamer provided, as to get the best out of this machine it’s best to use them. But for what it is, this is a very reasonably priced machine and suspect it will last a long time.

Overall I like this machine, it works very well and is so easy to use. It’s also really easy to clean and continues to look brand new. The espresso coffee tastes great as does making a latte from the milk streamer.

    Expected more!
I really would have expected more considering the cost of this machine.
The positives are that it looks really nice and similar to other professional machines. It is a lovely design and fits well in with kitchen design.
The outside of the machine is easy to clean and causes no issues.
The insider is more fiddly but is to be expected.

When using the machine the first few times, we didn’t get the right results at all. Even when the light indicates that the steam function was ready, we found that nothing came through or it spurted water into the milk.

I would have expected the machine to function much better and be easier to use, considering the cost of the machine.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersVery nice (and hot) espresso from a relatively simple machine
I drink espresso, and occasionally produce a long coffee (so-called American style) for my son. So, a simple espresso machine is all I need. My simple Delonghi machine produced nice espresso for two years only, then started taking 5 minutes to produce an espresso. Looking for a replacement, I decided to try a new model (again simple) from Lakeland, but after two faulty machines, I got a refund, and looked again. The reviews for most of the simple expresso machines include 1 or 2 stars due to coffee not hot enough, leaks, etc. (even from some bid name brands). Finally, I came across this Breville machine (which I seemed to have missed in my previous search), and Amazon had it on sale (Black Friday perhaps), at a price lower than the current reduced price. All reviews were at least 3 stars, so decided to give it a go. So far, so good — indeed ‘excellent’. Simple start-up, and it produces a very nice (and hot) espresso with that characteristic coffee foam that we all love about espresso. My only potential complaint is that the filter basket is a bit fiddly to remove for cleaning. Note that if you use the steam wand, it does take more than a few minutes for the machine to dispense coffee again. I don’t normally use it ever, but thought I would pre-heat my cup using the steam wand –bad decision because I had to wait at least 5 minutes before the coffee indicator light stopped flashing fast and went solid (i.e. ready to to dispense coffee). The DeLonghi filter basket is held in by a wire spring, whereas the Breville basket only comes out if the embossed button on its side aligns with a gap in the filter holder. (This filter holder and basket look identical to that of the Lakeland model). Anyway, I am loving my espresso again, and let’s hope this Breville continues to work so well.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usersa definitely good upgrade from a capsule to grounded coffee
This is a review for Breville Bijou Espresso Machine, it was on promotion at the time of review, 139.99.

The machine looks very sturdy, stainless steel case all the ways through and water tank is at the back. I live in hard water area but have a water softener installed at home so I don’t need to put an extra filter in. But I would suggest you do if your water is not soft in your area to avoid scaling. To a person who have been using a capsule coffee machine, this is definitely an upgrade. I can choose my own intensity of roast and ground coffee. The operation is so easy, filled with your favorite grounded coffee and press a button, your coffee with good crema is on the way. There comes with a hot bar to frother milk. I always frother my milk and attempted to do latte art but failed most of the time. I am sure it will go better with more practice, it’s always the fun part of playing with it. It will be better if it is a bean to cup machine but this will be my next step. I think this one in terms of price, it is a good range to step out of capsule machine.

Perfect size for the modern kitche
You really can’t go wrong with Breville products. And we have had many over the years. This machine is another excellent addition to their range. We do drink expresso coffee but just not very often. It’s one of those drinks that has a purpose and moment for it. So this was the ideal product to trial. Interestingly since adding it to our kitchen arsenal we now drink a lot more expresso than ever before so be warned! Very compact compared to other machines which is a massive positive in this day and age when you have so many accessories to house already. Looks sleek and stylish. It’s operation is first class. Very easy to operate and the option to rely on manual settings or go rogue and create your own measurements. Do give it a cycle for cleaning first though.

    Surprisingly easy to use!
For a complete coffee machine novice like me, this machine was a great first purchase. Dead easy to clean, the instructions were pretty clear and the coffee comes out great every time. The only downsides are: slightly larger than average mugs don’t fit under the coffee dispenser (see photo) and you have to manually stop the machine when your mug is full unlike classic pod machines, so you gotta keep an eye on it. But these are very minor inconveniences, all in all a great product.

Easy to use home espresso machine
I have been looking at and comparing these for ages and this one was my shortlist as one of the better value coffee machines with a steam arm.

This one dispenses one or two shots of coffee with two different filters. It needs 1.5 litres of water in the tank at the back.
I ground my coffee fine and then tampered it down with the supplied spoon. Twist the handle onto the underneath of the unit and turn the knob onto the coffee setting. When you have your coffee amount tirn the knob again.

To get frothy milk just add milk to a jug and turn the dial onto steam. You can then froth and heat enough milk to make one or two lattes.

I can only see one flaw to this and that is that you have to make all the coffee first. So thats a different scoop of ground coffee for each cup which is then getting cold while you steam the milk. Once you have used the steam arm you need to wait 5 minutes for the unit to cool down which can be quite annoying. I made 3 coffees at once and then steamed enough milk for all of them and they were piping hot so I can’t really complain.

So I’d say its basically a small home coffee machine but you do get professional style lattes from this. It’s never going to dispense drinks like a shop as this is a fraction of the price of a professional machine. However I think for the price this is a great little machine and I’d definitely recommend it. The only limitation is the different brands of coffee but I recommend blue mountain it’s yummy.

Decent coffee machine, Fantastic taste of your own barista style coffee.
This machine seems reasonably well made, lightweight, stylish and robust with clear dials and instructions.
Pretty easy to set up and use as well as maintain, although I found the instruction booklet a bit confusing, so my suggestion here is: do NOT try and use it without reading the instructions first. Basically It does everything I need it to do and is used several times every day.
At the beginning It took me a few attempts to get coffee to right strength, with more practice and use of the machine, I have now been able to create lattes and cappacinos -even latte art as good as the coffee bars, just use a good ground coffee. The option of making two espresso’s at a time is just great.
Also Like the steamer being on the right side easy to fill and empty any unused water, this steamer is really effective, makes a proper cappuccino even with non dairy milk, giving a fantastic silky foam, just bear it in mind to clean the spout every time to avoid bacteria to grow!
The water container is big enough for a day’s use, usually 5/6 coffees, It’s very nicely sized, convenient and compact, doesn’t take up too much room, and runs with low vibration noise, makes it so simple to get the expensive coffee shop experience at home (saves money in long run!)
It Heats up quickly, very versatile and delivers a lovely cup of well needed coffee in the morning, whatever coffee you desire. Every morning my house is filled with beautiful aroma of coffee, really happy with this coffee machine!
Overall this machine exceeded my expectations, however comparing the price with some other retailers, it’s more expensive.

Easy to use basic coffee make
Great for those who want something that performs well and does not cost as much as the fancy machines but can still make good coffee. Easy to use once you try it out heats up to temperature fast does not make too much noise easy to clean the portafilter and drip tray no advance settings and menus to be confused with switch on and turn the dial and your coffee will be done in no time big enough water tank to last a week if drinking around two coffees a day only two negatives of this are the gap between the dispenser and drip tray is not the biggest so you will struggle to get anything bigger than a standard size mug under it also the milk frother steam wand is pretty poor but for the price of the machine at least it has one.

Lacks some useful functions but still a good and fast espresso make
This Breville Bijou Espresso Machine is undoubtedly one of the simplest in the Breville line, yet with 15bars, it is still top-notch.

If you want to upgrade from the traditional paper-filter coffee machine, this is simply the best step forward.

It comes with a portafilter where you put in a single or double-wall filter basket to measure the number of grounds you want and will produce that desired crema.

The scoop and tamp combo is an integral accessory to this machine – but I wish they made the tamp stainless steel because it’s just easier to press the grinds in and get a suitably smooth level when you have a heavier tamp.

I think that the manual shot control is unnecessary because watered-down espresso is not ideal. The lack of a grinder or temperature control honestly does not give many options to “customize” your coffee, so you’ll have to rely on getting the best kind of grounds that pairs with the temperature of the water this machine produces.

Since it does not have a preheating option, I highly doubt that your first cup will be the most satisfactory as most grounds make sour shots when the temperature is not optimum. So you’d have to have it turned on and wait for the water to reach a suitable temperature for the coffee.

The steam wand with its silicone handle, on the other hand, works well and is an exciting experience for first-timers – it makes for very frothy cappuccinos.

It’s best to wipe the wand each time after dipping it in the milk to prevent a clogged nozzle, and there’s a cleaning tool for that, which is excellent. It would have been nicer to have a storage compartment in the machine itself for all the tools and accessories.

And also, a milk pitcher is omitted, and that’s somehow disappointing. I think this is a good gift for newbies to the new era of coffee machines.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersGood, Hands on manual espresso machine
The Breville Bijou Espresso Machine is a compact Espresso machine – you can see one of the photos it sitting next to my Sage Oracle Touch – which is massive and much more expensive. They both do the same thing in the same steps though run water through coffee grinds to make espresso and steam milk if you want to.

The Breville looks good to me all clad is a stainless steel with a few chunky buttons and a dial – all of which have nice positive actions. The water tank is on the back; it doesn’t have any option for a water filter so i would put filtered water into the machine if you live in a hard water area. The tank is pretty big – it lasted me 10 espressos when i was getting the machine setup. There are some feet on the bottom to give it some grip; but its a light machine and its easily knocked about – especially when you attach the portafilter. The Portafilter is a smaller 54mm one and its very plastic and light weight- and the two included baskets; despite appearances are pressure baskets with one hole (photo) and not standard baskets with hundreds of holes. This lets you use pre ground coffee from bags; rather than grinding your own. It would have been nice to have a /proper/ mesh filter if you wanted to grind your own.

My first test using coffee I used a fine grind I would use in the sage machine – and this resulted in no coffee in the cup and an enormous mess to clean up as the portafilter pushed itself off the machine and made a mess.

I loosened up the grind to a much coarser grain and had some fun dialing in the machine – you can see some examples of that in the photos. I found this needed coffee about 15 settings coarser on my grinder than the sage machine. With that done; the system brewed a good espresso. If you are buying your coffee pre ground i would maybe experiment carefully.

The machine is completely manual which after years of using automatic machines i find fun. The coffee you end up with is entirely down to your hands/ time. If you just want a quick cup do it by eye; if you want to be arty about it you can dial it in and weigh everything through – or you can learn as you go. When you are finding your coffee recipient you will need your watch to set a timer to get the extraction consistent right to your tastes (or use a measuring jug.) Beware that stopping the brewing by turning the knob doesn’t stop coffee pouring out you need to remove your cup too; i guess this is down to the pressure design. I will say the pressure design does seem to result in more coffee crema foam than a traditional basket if that is something you like to see.

I found it better to wait a few minutes to let the coffee dry out before cleaning up the portafilter as the pucks coming out of the portafilter were quite a mess (photo). Despite my best efforts at tamping the coffee down with the included plastic spoon/ tamp. (THe smaller Portafilter denied my option to use a weighted tamp i already had.) When you are done making a coffee i would run the coffee side to let it clean itself out a bit before you shut it off.

If you are steaming milk that will give you the window to let it dry out a bit. Switching on the steaming mode requires you to hit the steaming button (you can only make coffee or steam at any one time. It takes a few minutes to go from coffee to steam mode (you may find it better to go the other way if you like really hot coffee.) The steam wand could do with being a little longer; it doesn’t make it to the bottom of either of my steaming jugs. I did find I could make a decent micro foam with it though; and i could create a more dense foam for cappuccino too.

Overall I may sound a bit harsh on the machine; its a little hard when your daily machine costs 10x the price I don’t want you to compare them – outside the note about the coffee needing to be more coarse. If you are looking for a first espresso machine or considering upgrading from an Nespresso to something that has less of a waste impact this is a fine machine. Its compact and if you are patient with it you can dial in the coffee making process to get a good double shot of espresso out of it. Enjoy the time it takes to learn how to get coffee you like; and be ready to tidy up the odd accident. Once you have coffee to your liking the steam wand besides being a little short is very good. You can foam milk good enough for latte art with it; which is a fun step on making coffee.

For me personally i like a machine that does a little more of the work; working from home i make more coffee in teh day and i dont need it to have a fern on it every time; just drinkable coffee. This machine is maybe a little too manual for that; it takes a minutes to make a good drink from it (the wait for steaming the milk being part of that.) So if you want coffee quickly you likely want to look elsewhere; if you want to enjoy making yourself a good coffee this is a fun machine.

4* because of the pressure baskets ; if you dont have a grinder and are using pre ground beans its a 5*

I’m chuffed with this. I got it to replace my old espresso machine. This is exactly what I expected in terms of its functionality. It does its job very well. I love how quickly it heats up and is ready to brew in no time at all. Where it excels especially is in its design and its aesthetics.
I love the large water reservoir.
I love the silicone grab handle on the milk frother. It ensures extra protection from burns.
I love how smart it looks. Really aesthetically pleasing. Whole stainless steel construction looks great and easy to clean.
I love the simple and well placed buttons.
The heat of the coffee is perfect. It produces copious amounts of crema which indicates perfect pressure
It doesn’t drip and dripafter use. The drip tray remains largely unused.
The drip tray clips in and out easily allowing for large mugs to be placed beneath

I’m a trained barista, I’ve worked on a lot of machines over the years and I’m not a huge fan of capsule machines so trying this one’s been great fun.

It’s a great machine. Makes a lovely cup of coffee, heats milk quickly and easily and is easy to clean.

Negatives: it’s not got weight behind it so putting in the group head cause the whole unit to move. If you heat milk first the machine over heats and prevents you drawing the espresso.

Over all though it’s a great home espresso machine, it looks great on the counter top, is small and compact but effective! Great for the home barista making one or two cups at a time.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersMakes a Great Espresso
Our rather expensive Jura bean to cup machine broke down a few weeks ago and my wife and I have been “ummming” and “arrrhhing” over what to replace it with. This Breville Espresso machine looks like being the winning candidate. Despite costing less than a third of the price of the Jura it produces excellent espresso. Nice crema, nice flavour, simple and easy to use. You can set the coffee strength and the amount of water, and the steamer works very well for those who like some frothy milk on their coffee (not my cup of tea though).

The only thing it doesn’t do, that the Jura did, is grind the beans. But then it does have the advantage of having a smaller footprint and being a little shorter, so fits under our kitchen worktop more comfortably. Its a little noisy when operating but in my experience most decent machines are. Its all to do with the pump pressure I think. I actually find it easier to clean than most similar machines I’ve used in the past too. The provided accessories are all very decent quality and the included user manual is clear and easy to read/ In short the whole thing appears well made. For the money it really is a fine expresso machine.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersEasy to use
I really like this stylish look and relatively easy to use machine.
The instructions are easy to follow but for the price point need to be easier ( step by step and in correct order).
I really like that you have 1.5 ltr tank plenty to keep me going all day. Very easy to remove for filling or cleaning ( you can also fill from top as kit removes very easy).

I found the Portafilter a little hard to lock and unlock you need both hands free to do this.( one on machine one on the Portifilter).
You get two filters depending on how you like/ strong you want your coffee. Even get a nice measure scoop to measure the amount of coffee you want to use.
For me the best part is steaming the milk the instructions are a little hard to read and longer than for the main machine but the results make the coffee, hot chocolate etc.
The machine and steamer needs a fair amount of cleaning to ensure good operation and a good cup/mug of coffee.

    Espresso tastic
So, this makes a small espresso coffee. It can froth up milk if you want to then add your espresso and create a latte or cappuccino, BUT this is an espresso machine. So that means it will only fit small cups and if you did manage to angle a normal sized cup underneath it and very carefully make a normal sized filter coffee it will be fairly cool
The coffee tastes as filter coffee always tastes which is fine
The machine is fairly simple to operate after a couple of goes and it heats the water up quickly, it looks quite attractive and fun BUT there are cheaper ways of making exactly the same tasting filter coffee.

    Absolutely love it!
The Breville Bijou seems extremely well built, but is also reasonably lightweight.
It’s very easy to use, with admirably clear instructions and very intuitive controls.
It heats up surprisingly quickly and is not overly noisy when preparing your coffee, which comes out beautifully smooth and very much as you would get in a premium coffee bar.
The footprint isn’t overly large and the water panel at the rear is easily removed, cleaned and refilled.
Only minor niggle is that you have to watch the coffee until you have the desired amount and then stop it, as it doesn’t seem to have any pre-set function to dispense a specific amount.
    No big deal though.
Any coffee lovers, keen to recreate that expensive coffee bar experience at home (or if you fancy trying your hand at being a barista), will not be disappointed.

Are you a coffee lover? Then this must be your choice! It’s so easy to use I thought at first it will be complicated but it’s not.

You can make single or double coffees in this barista with lots of choice such as espresso, late, flat white, americano etc.. heats up in a minute ,steam your milk excellent taste! Great design doesn’t take much space in your kitchen bit loud but you get used to it. Saving you lots of money from buying coffee in costa, Starbucks etc.Makes coffee just like crom the big name coffee shops.

Easy to set up and use, with the choice for one or 2 cups to be made and an excellent steam wand which makes the milk hot and frothy. It takes very little time to make the coffee and to steam the milk as desired. Easy to clean after use, and includes a handy pin to clean the steam nozzle, be wary when getting out of the comparment as quite sharp!

Only downside is that it is noisy….but this is the case to get the good coffee in coffee shops

You wont be disappointed with this machine. Enjoy your drinks! Plus you have a hot water there as well for tea or hot chocolates! Taste for all family

I would recommend this machine to all my family and friends, I actually can’t wait to have friends over to make them a coffee shop style coffee with freshly ground coffee.

Now I like my coffee, I’ve had a Krupps machine that grinds the beans and can do esspresso etc and I’ve loved it.
Recently due to health issues I’ve had to cut out caffeine and getting decaffeinated beans is and expensive so I dropped back to instant as a fill in.
So when I got this I was quite happy as it means I can more easily get my decaf coffee fix with a better texture and flavour.
The machine does work well the coffee it produces is good and for basic controls its very easy and straightforward.
What I don’t like compared to my Krupps is the faff with scooping the grinds, compacting, putting the filter into the machine (which is re-assuringly stiff) then watching until I have the desired level (I know what a pedantic moan, but my Krupps is set up to dispense the exact amount so I can press and go and leave it)
So if you like you coffee tasty but easy then personally I’d go with a more automated system like my Krupps but if you like the barista style faff and control then this seems a really good machine.

Met me expectations for sure. Awsome coffe machine.
This automatic and manual espresso, cappuccino and latte maker is amazing and works excellent I have to say. Has 1.5L water tank, pre infusion cycle, 52mm caf-quality portafilter, 15 bar pump, powerful steam wand, manual shot control and comes with single and dual wall filter baskets. I have to say that this coffe machine makes very delicious coffe just like it tastes at your favourite caf.
What I mostly like that 15 bar pump helps to deliver the required pressure for the perfect rich crema which is perfect for lattes- my favorite one.
There is manual shot control buttom which fully controls the adjustment of the strength of your drink.
What’s included with this great coffe machine: 52mm portafilter, single and double wall filter baskets and 2in1 coffe scoop and tamp.
To get delicious, rich espresso, there is a pre-infusion cycle and a 15 bar pump that provides increased extraction of oils, coffee solids and aromas.
What Can I say this coffe machine makes my mornings much better with my favorite coffe.
Very easy to use with sent instruction.
Quality of this coffe machine is very good, worth spending at any price.
    Overall: WOW
    Highly recommend!
