Christmas present obviously not given yet but looks good, nice size. Already using older machine. No complaints.
It took a couple of tries to work it out but can now make lovely frothy coffee.
Right from the start we had problems with making a simple coffee. After watching some YouTube videos and understanding a few key points on how to work best with this machine,I haven’t had any problem and always makes great coffee. It’s very easy to use and warms up quite quickly.
This review is for model ECP 35.31 only. For 10 years, a cheap but reliable Cookworks brand filter machine served me coffee each morning, till it broke this month. So I was looking around, and was initially hesitant at buying an Espresso maker due to the device cost and never having owned one previously. After researching online, speaking with friends who own similar machines, I decided to try one. All I will say is that this is the best thing I have bought myself and majority of my housemates love it too. You get shop coffee at home, saving 3 a pop. It makes cappuchino and other variants, is easy to clean, has a removable tray that I have put away as I don’t need. Mine has a 2 year warranty, so if it breaks, the manufacturer can fix it. We make 6 cups of coffee a day with this and it will take about 2 to 3 days before you get your technique right for the flavour you like and this depends on the coffee grind too. For myself, I find the black Lavazza Espresso packet (strength 5) is now my coffee of choice, I pull a shot or two for 30 seconds, then top it up with kettle boiled water, a splash of milk. For others in my house, instead of adding the water, they use the machine to froth milk to make cappuchinos. The coffee tastes delicious with the crema it creates and the machine is compact, sturdy, not loud and very easy to clean. Definitely impressed and would recommend this model for ease of use and build quality. Just read the instructions fully and don’t pull the shot for longer than 30 seconds otherwise I am advised that the less desirable flavours of the grind will pour through and may taste bitter. But it’s all personal preference, so experiment to your hearts content. One thing I will say is that if you are in a rush, and have no time, then Espresso makers are not for you as you need to spend a few minutes to make a lovely coffee.
Excellent coffee machine that produces consistently good coffee with a nice crema. Compact and does not take up lots of space. Easy to use and it’s just what I wanted.
This coffee machine is amazing. Very easy to use and its affordable solution if you want really nice barista-style coffee. Still haven’t mastered the whole art of pouring shapes on the top but still learning. Long story short, this is amazing. Definitely worth buying.
This small coffee machine is fantastic. I’m a professional barista and wanted good coffee at home, and this does the job perfectly. Amazing crema for a machine of this price range. Picked it up on offer for 99, no regrets. Highly recommend!
The first one we ordered got “lost in the post”. Second one came very quickly and is excellent. Very simple controls, small and neat machine. great coffee
I bought different machines in the past few years and as an espresso lover I found the coffe too watery and not proper espresso taste. This machine is absolutely amazing! The espresso comes out with a very nice cream on top. It changed my life!
I am no coffee expert but with the coffee shop’s closed at the moment this is the next best thing. Easy to use, easy to clean and makes a great latte.
We’ve had 2 Swan coffee machines over the last 2 years, which were slightly cheaper, but this is the real deal, makes superb coffee with a very quick and easy to clean frother.
I have to say that I am impressed with this machine considering the price, well put together and a nice finish making it good to look at and easy to clean and everything you need to start making good coffee comes with it, just add good coffee. Nice safety features that turns the machine off when left for some time and the instruction manual is actually very good.
Great value coffee machine, makes great coffee, obviously depends on the coffee used, 15 bar pressure, froths milk very well. I have seen a couple of reviews that say that the coffee is not hot enough but I suspect that they are not using the machine properly as mines makes very hot coffee. Wait for a green light before making coffee then switch the dial and wait for green before frightening the milk!
Very easy to use and makes a nice and smooth coffee
First I was a bit disappointed as I made some terrible glasses of coffee but when I tried it a couple of times I got an outstanding high quality coffee. The machine is easy to clean and fits even in small kitchens like mine. I can just recommend this coffee machine. Make sure you use high quality coffee and good milk.
This machine surpasses my expectations in every way.
I get great coffee every time.
Easy to use.
Easy to clean.
Great quality build and premium look.
You can make great hot chocolate too, by just frothing your milk and heating to your desired temperature.
Well, that’s my opinion. My wife, though pleased with the machine, loves her coffee shops and just doesn’t find it the same
It looks great and the frother froths up very frothy milk. It makes great cappuccinos and Americanos. Very happy for what I paid.
Makes fantastic coffee, easy to use and easy to clean. Would be better if you could fit a regular size mug underneath though.
Just set up the machine and tried to get a coffee, the machine gave water to my whole kitchen and no coffee for my cup. Return for change, let’s give it a second chance … Customer service send me another within a theoric 13 days, no commercial gesture or something … Finally received it 48 hours later, works very well, excellent coffee, quite different than Nespresso cup. Love it 🙂
Great coffee machine for those just starting out with ground coffee! Easy to use, easy to clean doesn’t take up loads of space
Was a bit nervous this would be a short lived novelty, but after two months it’s still getting daily use, giving daily joy and working a treat. Quick, easy, roasted bliss!!
It’s rather large and wide. In hindsight I may have gone for something leaner, but then those cost more. I’m happy for the price paid – under 70 it’s a great way to get into Espresso making at home without over-committing on more expensive gear in case you only use it occasionally.
Doesnt blend as the review has asked me to rate it it’s good. Worth the money. But by the time you have made one you cant be bothered making a second for the wife
Got this as a gift and had nothing but positive feedback
Bought to replace previous de’longhi coffee maker which lasted over 10 years.
This model is even better. Powerful steam for frothy cappuccinos and easy to clean spout. Very impressed
Fantastic. A little loud if you’re not used to it but quieter than a regular pod machine with much better results. Super easy to clean as well.
This was bought for my son who loves it. It arrived on time, well packaged and was exactly what he wanted.
This is a great little coffee machine for the price – we have used it for about a month now and can not fault it! Makes great milk for either cuppucino or lattes, and it’s pretty simple to use.
If I had to mention a fault it would be that the Portafiller (where you put the coffee in) is a little hard to clean. When you want to tap the used coffee out sometimes the whole filter comes out. But we’ve found that tapping it on the corner of our food waste bin keeps the filter in.
Easy to use, good quality and great price. Doesn’t include cappuccino foamier attachme
Very pleased with it use it for making all the coffees my husband loves
Best coffee blender I’ve bought
If you want creamy rich coffee blends delonghi is the machine for you
I purchased this machine because my old moka was not working on the induction cooker of the new flat. After a little bit more of a month’s usage I’m really pleased with this coffee maker, it’s easy to use and the coffee tastes good. I bought it when discounted, so definitely a good purchase, not sure if I would have bought at full price though.
Excellent machine, great for cappuccino!! Great for all coffee styles, absolutely love i
Perfect coffee machine for a family home. Can make great latts and the steam heats and froths the milk quickly.
Good features for a cheap coffee machine. Good steamer. I am not used to manually stopping espresso and find this a step back. Many reviews under the 31.21 machine relate to different machines. Beware.
Nice kitchen gadget…I also bought the stainless steel jug and thermometer…however didn’t think the jug much use for heating milk..its not big enough for a standard size mug..it froths over.. so I use a plastic jug. Other than that it’s a good size smart kitchen gadget. For making 2 cups of coffee we used out small cups from IKEA…they contain just the right amount of coffee.
his one certainly serves my purpose.
it takes a little time to get used to it and find the right espresso beans/grinds
but overall am happy with the machine.
also looks very nice!
I’ve wanted one of these for ages, looked round -read the reviews and bought it. So very glad I did .easy to use, clean and easy to make the coffee you want. I love it.
Unlike some coffee makers, the coffee is hot when you make it.
Very nice and really good quality.
Easy to use and to clean.
I really have to thank the seller because I received it in view day after I ordered it. Even when I’m leaving in Saudi Arabia.
Thank you so much
I usually buy cappuccino makers around the 80 mark and find they last about 18 months – 2 years. My last machine was De Longhi and pretty rubbish, so I was reluctant to buy this but swayed by good reviews.
I must say this machine is a vast improvement on the last one; it makes very professional, perfect expresso with crema and firm cappucino froth, it’s quiet, heavy duty (doesn’t bounce around!)
Couple of niggles – the filter holder doesn’t have a lever to help empty it and the filter fits tight, so have to get a knife to release it to clean.
– re-attaching the frothing nozzles requires bright light and spectacles for people like me to see how to connect them every time. Neither of those desirable on a dark winter morning. Will I remember to connect them in the evening when they’re dry?
– not sure how durable the rubbery nozzle might be.
But I won’t mark it down, the coffee’s too good.
I’m using it for almost two month now and I’m completely happy with it!
15 bar is all i needed to make great espresso or ristroto that i like.
coming straight to point:
– first thing i threw away single shot and npresso or whatever it is.
– i punched a much bigger hole in double shot filter. take out filter then there is small hole underneath it. just make it bigger. basically you are removing “pressurised” from the filter.
mind that best shots are in drops… if you are seeing continuous flow then your coffee will be too thin. filter is only 51mm and thus there is not enough coffee to see continuous flow of brew.
and now that you have made it non pressurised means you need to work on tamp. and that means metal tamper. it makes big difference so get one.
i find that 1:1 tastes best for any roast of coffee.. i don’t use milk but i have used frothier for others…. too hot and not worth the cleaning and cooling effort. i used hario manual frothier instead….
finally i don’t know what the wires are made up but cockroaches ate it up and it shorted today 🙁 and with heavy import duty of 42% and shipping costs… it’s quite expensive…. looking for lelit now that ships to india… 4 times the cost but need to try 58mm filter and temp control. get a ristroto once in life and you will throw away milk forever.
This is our first espresso machine, so we are beginners at brewing coffee. After a few attempts we have perfected the coffee part of it. We are grinding our own beans separately and have found the right strength and flavour by trial and error. We find we need a double shot per cup if making Americano or cappuccino/ latte. The steam wand is quite short so we had to get a smaller milk frothing jug. The wand does froth milk quite well, but seems to be more frothy than you want for latte, despite trying lots of techniques. I’m not sure if we were expecting too much of this type of machine. The instruction book only mentions cappuccino, but the De’Longhi website does have a tutorial video on making latte. I have yet to get mine looking like it should. That said, the coffee made from this machine is fine, just be prepared to use some trial and error. It is good value compared to much more expensive alternatives. It looks nice on the worktop. We got the black and stainless steel one which is more expensive than the basic black, but does not seem to have any better functions, you are just paying for the finish.
This is a great coffee machine! It was tricky working out how to use it intially, we found it hard getting the tampering right for the double espresso shot but after a bit of fiddling we worked it out. The milk frother is really good, I’ve worked in coffee shops before & there is a knack to it but with this foamer you literally need no skill for a good glossy milk. Really happy with the machine, saving so much money on takeaway coffees & actually prefer the coffee I make at home to cafes- and I’m a coffee snob!
This is a very good machine, and makes a good coffee. Great expresso and americano at home!
Overall this product produces good coffee is easy to use and of a good Size on the worktop.
Brought this for a present, and have been told it is an amazing coffee machine
Ideal for making delicious coffee in a very short time
Only had the machine a few weeks and so far so good, so hopefully keeps going.
Its a wonderful coffee making machine, works really fast and is an effortless process.
It makes excellent espresso drinks and they can be lengthened into Americanos by using the hot water tap.
Great quality for the price – looks good and makes great espresso. Can’t fault it.
Great product but unfortunately came with a European plug and I live in the UK.
Guiltily spent money on a Starbucks coffee as part of my weekday morning routine. This machine does the job. It takes approximately 3 minutes to make a latte or cappuccino in the morning. Saves time and money. Though I do miss the convenience of a barista preparing my morning pick me up, only sometimes though.
We love it!
We used to have a basic coffee/tea maker, but the coffee had no real taste or strengh. So we decided to invest into a more professional one, in medium price range. We chose this machine, it had great reviews and a good price. Setting up and run it is really easy, makes a wonderful coffee with lots of crema (see video). Very easy and straightforward to use and clean.
A very nice looking machine but mine came with a no UK plug?
Working 4 days a week I always felt the need to get a decent coffee before getting into the office and was costing me 4 a day. I purchased this and make a coffee to drink getting ready for work and one to take with me, so far I think I have saved the value of two machines. Easy to use, some what easy to clean and works great and makes decent coffee.
I worked in Costa coffee for 2 years so I have high expectations for coffee and coffee machines.
The steam arm is slightly less powerful than I’d like but it does the job, just takes slightly longer to warm up and its tough to make a true flat white
If you can be bothered to spend a couple of minutes to make your coffee it’ll be so worth it. It’s more effort than a tassimo or other pod machine but it’s so worth i
Although the machine is 100% functional i wasn’t informed about the issue/ imperfection on the hot holder cup on top of the coffee machine
This machine makes the perfect espresso for me every morning. Was a very good investment. Can’t recommend it enough!
I bought this as a gift for my cappuccino loving husband. It is so easy to use I’m sure he will be having one every day and not just when we go into town.
It seems sturdily made and easy to clean. I really like the way the frother can be removed and taken apart to ensure all traces of milk are gone. Two simple operating knobs with pictures of coffee types make it easy to make coffee of your choice. Easy to understand instruction leaflet covers making coffee, but not drawing patterns in the froth; I will try Youtube for that.
There are two little lights; a red one to show it’s switched on and a green one to show you it’s ready. I’ve found that if I switch it on and then fill the coffee holder, tamp down and attatch it there’s next to no waiting around for it to heat up. It doesn’t switch off automatically (I suppose because sometimes you want a short expresso and others a long Americano) so you have to watch it doesn’t overflow the cup. If you forget to switch the machine off after use then it does switch itself off to prevent overheating/wasting electricity.
I am finding the coffee holder hard to turn (arthritis in hands/wrists) but then it needs to a tight fit to work properly. Likewise the inside of the coffee holder is a tight fit, but I would sooner have it that way than falling out into the dirty waste bin when emptying it. There is a little slit at the side just the right size for a teaspoon handle so you can hook it out to rinse it. There are 3 holders supplied (1cup, 2 cups and pod) and they are safely stored in a compartment on top of the machine.
There is a red button that pops up to tell you when the spillage resovoir needs emptying, and the silver slotty top lifts off for cleaning inside. To fit a tall mug under the coffee holder you remove the reservoir; there is another shallower one beneath.
Hint 1, be sure to push water tank right down so it ‘engages’ inside. If not it makes a lot of noise which tells you it’s not right (or that it’s empty). Hint 2. The coffee drips out for a bit after it’s delivered the cup of coffee. Ok if you leave cup underneath while frothing the milk. For my expresso I will use a little dish to catch them instead of it accumulating in the reservoir and perhaps going smelly. Hint 3: the frother ‘purges’ out the bit of water left over from the last use: it is hot and splashy and goes all over the worksurface if you have swung it out before switching it on. Hint 4: the machine works a bit like a pressure cooker, filling the coffee container with hot water and forcing it through a tiny, tiny hole at the bottom. This does mean coffee grounds can accumulate on the heating plate up above where the holder attatches. I occassionally give this a wipe with a bit of kitchen paper (when it has cooled down) to prevent them giving the coffee a ‘burnt’ taste.
Machine was securely packaged and easy to open. It arrived on first day of delivery slot, though it could have been even quicker.
5* for value for money as it was on a fantastic offer. 5* for simple knobs, frother design/cleaning, but no stars taken off for my ‘dicky wrists’ and loathing of drips. 5* for rubust feel of product, will update if it breaks down unexpectedly quickly.
Update: I have had my coffee machine for 3 weeks now; I have used it most days. It took a little ‘learning’ to make a cup exactly to my husband’s preferences. I found that a count to 20 gave just enough coffee without ‘overwatering’ it for his mug of cappuchino. The water reservoir holds just about enough for 5-6 cappuccinos (coffee & steam) or americanos (coffee & hot water). We use semi-skim goats milk which is a tad sweeter and creamier tasting than cows milk and husband thinks it better than he gets in town. I am still ‘experimenting’ with different coffee types, so more tasting fun to come.
Great size, fairly easy to use once you figure it out!
Fantastic, easy to use good coffee and not big so can save same space!
Love it . So much a friend got one and she love it too
It seems a good coffee machine but only time will tell
I bought this machine a couple of months ago. It’s excellent, but requires some practice to use it.
Because of the basket design the coffee shouldn’t be ground too fine or tamped too hard, I use a medium grind. If it’s too fine or tamped to hard it doesn’t flow. If you change the beans the parameters change and you may need to vary the grind or tamp pressure. Also different beans different amounts of crema. The milk frother is good, I use a proper metal jug and themometer. With practice you can make an excellent cup of coffee.
For the price it can make a decent coffee , still experimenting with beans as haven’t found the perfect one yet.
Love this machine. I longed for a cappuccino at home for ages and my dreams came true when this arrived. Thank you.
Fantastic little kitchen countertop coffee maker at a really competitive price. You’ll have to give the instructions a quick glance over before you get started, as it isn’t as easy to use as some of its competitors but it makes a lovely coffee (depending on what ground/pods you use) and the milk frother is really good. Doesn’t take standard Nespresso style pods though, it uses E.S.E pods which aren’t available in most supermarkets.
I bought this machine as a present. It looks really good in my friends kitchen & more expensive than it was. It makes lovely Espresso with a creamy top.
Makes terrific coffee for even beginners, good delivery service, very good customer sales department what more could I want? (perhaps not such a long winded telephone procedure would help) but talking to a sales assistant on the phone and everything is worth the wait. Made professional quality coffee first attempt and their coffee grinder is extremely good with 12 grinder settings.Well done Delonghi your combined service and quality takes some beating
Overall content with purchase but unable to comment on durability at this early stage. I do have an issue – find it difficult to judge water level – the window does not give a clear indication.
I have not have this machine for a long time, but so far it has been giving me quality, creamy coffee. Just remember to heat the machine otherwise you end up with lukewarm espresso
I have been using this multiple times daily for over 10 months with no problems. Easy to use, easy to clean and has a small footprint, doesn’t take up much space.
Absolutely no issues with it. Any coffee lover would be happy to have one.
Makes great espresso. It really squeezes out all the flavour from the coffee grounds making a thick rich espresso with great crema. And it uses real coffee, not plastic cartridges.
The first device that we received started to leak but Amazon replaced it within days. Was bought as a gift. So far the new device seems to be working well but we’ve only had it a week or so now.
for the price it makes an excellent cup of coffee. simple to use. i can’t believe the difference between the cafetiere i used and coffee from this machine. ok it hasn’t got the bells and whistles of a more expensive machine, but the coffee tastes superb. rich coffee crema and lots of frothy milk. brilliant.
Perfect! I’m very satisfied.
Is like the coffee a the bar. The machine have a nice style, very easy to use and the cappuccino spout maker is very flexible to move.
Product recommended!
Just an excellent entry level espresso machine in my opinion. Really simple to use but makes excellent espressos and lattes/cappuccinos too. Nice to have the option of single/double shot baskets, and the ESE basket too (which are great for speed and cleanup if you’re short on time) and a great touch to have built in storage for the baskets not in use. Make sure you press the water container down firmly to engage to valve as otherwise it will not work correctly and will make a hell of a racket! Also the milk steamer works really very well but take a few moments to learn how to steam milk properly so that you get a nice micro foam instead of too much froth. YouTube has loads of advice on this. All in all a fine product for the money, use mine several times a day.
I love this little machine. I have had three espresso machines over the last 18 or so years and this is definitely the best one so far. The removable water vessel is a godsend (no more having to drain the machine if the water is more than a day old, just remove the vessel, clean, fill and return to the machine). I love the different adaptors (for one or two cups) and while I probably won’t use the adaptor for the ESE cartridges, it is nice to have it anyway. Makes a perfect coffee every single time and the milk steamer works fantastically. The drip tray is removable which is perfect for cleaning as well as being able to get a larger cup or vessel under the dispenser. I am incredibly pleased with this coffee machine.
Super Machine, Makes excellent coffee and frother for milk is brill as well!
arrived on time in good order. Makes a great cup of coffee .
Loving my daily coffees! Simple to use and produces coffee in seconds. Other reviewers have provided some very helpful reviews. I just followed their instructions! Thanks to all who have provided reviews and shared their experience.
Bought this for my son and his girlfriend for Christmas. A brilliant machine with multi uses, highly recommend
here’s a learning curve to be experienced and once mastered will
yield a near perfect cup of coffee. glad to share details should they
be required.
I brought this machine couple of months ago and I can say I love it. I use it on daily basis and it makes a really good espresso and capuccino.
Bought husband this for Christmas. It’s great but a bit noisy sometimes.
A really great coffee maker for a very keen price.
Absolutely love it. The only thing is the steemer nossle could do with being longer.
I bought this as a birthday present for my mum who has been using a Senseo coffee pod machine for many years. While it is not as sturdy as Delonghi’s more pricey machines (you need to keep one hand firmly on top when attaching or removing the filter arm) but that aside it makes a pretty good coffee, especially for the price. Hopefully it will be strong enough to last my mum a few years but time will tell, and from my own experience with their coffee machines I have faith it will be ok.
Present for my wife and it;s spot on. Not exactly a silent device, but not particularly noisy either. Makes great coffee and looks nice in the kitchen!
Fantastic machine. Easy to use. Very simple. Trick is to buy good coffee and make sure to compress the coffee in the filter.. Would definitely recommend, especially, as half price in Sainsbury’s.
Amazing piece of kit, highly recommend over the cheaper less powerful (pressure wise) machines
It’s a good machine from what I can tell; after just a couple of days I’ve noticed I’ve got much better at pulling shots as a total beginner, so I think there’s quite a learning curve which one must factor in when using a machine like this. The problem is that the shots I’m pulling are coming out far too weak for my liking and I’m using strong, dark roasted coffee. I expect the fact I’m currently using a cheap blade grinder is part of the reason. I’d also be interested to find a depressurised basket to fit this portafilter, if I come across one I will add it to this review.
If you are new to grinding your own coffee be sure to not grind the beans too fine, this will cause the water to pass through at an extremely slow rate.
DeLonghi is a great brand to go with if you want good quality item, warranty and customer support.
++ Good Build Quality for the price (Weighty Portafilter, sleek design)
++ Makes Excellent Espresso
++ Great Steam wand for heating/frothing milk
++ Hidden/Built in water tank which holds a reasonable amount of water.
Great machine once I’d played around and got the coffee measurements sorted for my tastes… nice frothy results every time, don’t use the milk frother as don’t like cappuccino!
Absolutely what we wanted, very pleased with the coffee it produces, milk is hotter as well
This machine took a bit of getting used to, especially when the experts in the cafes make it look so easy on their commercial barista machines. It’s a fairly robust machine and heats up fairly quickly after each use, When you turn the switch to make the espresso you don’t get a measured shot so you have to judge when you think you have sufficient for how strong you like it. The steamer wand has 2 settings and the instructions only tell you how to heat the milk without froth and how to froth it for cappuccino. My wife loves a piping hot latte so I had to use trial and error to get the temperature and froth right. I get the milk nice and hot with the hot milk setting and then give it a bit of froth with the cappuccino setting. I also found it essential to get a proper steel jug for steaming because I wasn’t getting much success with ordinary pottery and Pyrex jugs. The beauty of having your own machine at home is the prospect of trying so many different types of coffee and making it just how you like it. If that’s what you want then this machine is ideal.
To early to judge its longevity but makes great coffee.
DeLonghi ECP31.21 Italian Traditional Espresso Coffee Maker, Black
Had this just under a week now and very happy with it. The machine was bought to replace a DeLonghi EC330 espresso machine, that had given up the ghost after three and a half years of faithful service. This has many improvements over our old machine; the coffee holders are a different and improved design, slight more fiddly to change between the one and two cup holders, but we never do, so its not a problem for us. The holders are far easier to keep clean and yet still produce a lovely crme on the espresso.
This machine is a lot quieter than our old one and has an auto-off feature that is useful. Under the lid it has storage for the spare holders, that keeps them hidden out of the way. This machine is a lot easier to keep clean than our old one, it also has a smaller footprint and takes up less worktop space. It would appear a lot of thought has gone into the design of this machine, and it shows.
The only small negative, is the water level indicator; maybe its a bit dark in our kitchen, but it is hard to see where the water level is on the indicator. This is a very minor gripe, as it is easy enough to lift the lid and look inside.
Overall, I think this is a very well designed and functioning espresso machine and at less than 100, great value for money.
