    Just a great work horse
This the second one we have had. The last one worked for over seven years and we only changed it as the door handle switch broke. Makes great coffee and is easy to look after. Only criticism is that it is difficult too see how much water is left in the container but apart from that I doubt you would find a better machine than this for the price

    Brilliant coffee machine
I love this machine. I previously owned an older one, with a separate coffee grinder. It’s really cleverly designed. The coffee grounds are compacted and look like hockey pucks. I wished you could froth the milk in the mug first, and then add the coffee. And the knob to turn the steam on and off is very stiff. But overall a great machine so far 5*

    Awesome!
I have been a committed Nespresso drinker for years now. Last machine being the M500 Expert which I loved.
A friend introduced me to the concept of bean to cup and thought I would investigate.
Bought this machine and wow! What a difference.
I always bought Nespresso Napoli capsules being their strongest offering.
Purchased some beans from Coffi Teifi online (Highly recommended)
I can honestly say that Nespresso is history.
What a brilliant machine especially for the price.
    Totally amazing.

    Great coffee made easy.
I’ve had a coffee machine before that took the pods which can be limiting if you fancy trying different types of coffee. So when it started acting up I decided to take the plunge and buy a “bean to cup” coffee machine. This Delonghi Magnifica S was reduced in price when I bought it, but the main reason for this model was all the great reviews. I watched lots of videos on youtube to get more of an idea what might be involved with ease of use and cleaning etc, so when it arrived I felt a bit more prepared. You must read the instructions on the correct setup, such as doing a water hardness test with the supplied test strip and setting the machine accordingly. The instructions do say that the first 5 cups of coffee you make will not be great so I just threw those away. I advise buying the small 250g bags of coffee beans to try it out until you find a particular brand you enjoy the most. Yes it will be trial and error but I have still enjoyed the coffee I have made so far. I like a cappuccino myself and I was a little worried about frothing the milk but it is actually really easy with this machine. I did buy the Delonghi 350ml stainless steel milk jug and I think the shape helps with getting the froth right. There is a dial on the front of this machine which alters the strength of the coffee and again it’s just a case of trying, to find the setting that suits you. There is more to cleaning this machine than my old pod machine, but I knew that going in, and it will need descaling every so often but the instructions are straightforward. It’s early days with this coffee machine, but already I am pleased with the results and I know it will be even better once I find the beans I prefer.

Great coffee maker but VERY noisy
I bought this make and model as i had one on the bridge of the ship i work on & felt it a necessity in my kitchen as the coffee was simply superior anything i had before outside a Barista. The order itself was swift, 2 days in fact which i thought was super impressive. The set up was straight forward and so was the operating instructions. the coffee when poured is as what i wanted and overall i am pleased with the machine… However it is VERY NOISY!….. I live in a 3 bedroom house and everybody knows when im making coffee no matter where in the house they are…. Im an early riser so me making coffee at 0530 has become the new household alarm clock…. I would give it 5 stars if it wasnt for the noise aspec

    Excellent machines great value
I purchased my first one whilst in Germany since then I have bought 5 more for friends and family all of whom are delighted. Consider that they cost less than 100 coffees from the two main chains ( Cos and Star) and one has the machine to hand the whole time. Even at a coffee per day less than 4 months and its yours. The first Machine I bought on my return to England some 14 years ago is still going strong. Would highly recommend

Still great after a year of working from home use
Bought this as an early Christmas present in 2020 thinking that it might be a nice upgrade from pods which seemed pretty eco unfriendly. Best decision of lockdown. No problems to date and in a hard water area, the descale seems to be doing a great job (moved up to the cheaper 500ml bottles of descale fluid and not sure what the fuss is about). The ground coffee compartment works OK and I seldom use it as the bean to cup approach seems to produce a far better cup of coffee. All in all a great purchase which now seems a lot better value than I first though

Very impressed, good price and lovely coffees
This is our second ESAM delonghi bean to cup machine and there are lots of similarities to our previous machine. I would say that this model is slightly noisier than the previous model and several parts seem to have been made with cheaper plastics rather than metal so my only concern will be the longevity of the machine, our previous model lasted 8 years with 2 coffees a day!

    Great machine appalling customer service
This is a fabulous machine! Very easy to use, coffee is great and the features are minimal but plenty.
The piston got stuck after less than 6 months ownership, apparently a common issue that can be solved with some troubleshooting and YouTube tutorials. I had to contact Delonghi to get it repaired and it was a 28 day turn around time. They didn’t offer an exchange or temporary replacement machine.
I found Delonghi’s customer service to be appalling, especially considering the price you pay for their products.

Great tasting coffee from a great looking machine
The machine looks really good. Making coffee using the machine could not be more simple. Once loaded with beans it is no more than choosing the type of drink, cappuccino or espresso, and the size of drink, one or two. The actual amount of coffee dispensed can be changed if your cup is larger or smaller than usual. Simply press the button and 30 seconds later its done. Frothing the milk is just a easy. Great taste, hot coffee and no mess. Oh, and unlike me previous machine, it’s very quiet when operating.

Makes great coffee for a reasonable price
I bought this coffee machine 3 years ago. I took on board the reviewer who suggested using bottled water . ( ignore the red descaler light ) I do run the descaler program every now and then using a much cheaper descaler than the on supplied with the machine. Our water has has a high ph content. This machine makes great coffee . We use it every day . I wound highly recommend.

    Good Coffee and adaptable
So it took me ages to buy a new coffee machine. Mainly because the reviews always include comments like the coffee was too weak or too cold. Anyway, I read the instructions – more accurately my wife read that out to me as I didn’t have my reading glasses, but that’s kind of irrelevant. It took about 15 mins to go through the start-up process until we got the part to make coffee.

The first coffee was too small,
The second coffee was too weak,
The third coffee was just right….

So it comes down to experimenting. After about 5 goes with the strength and amount controls we got a strong americano coffee for my wife which she was very pleased with. It was hot enough, strong enough and by hitting the two cups option, had enough coffee to fill a large sized coffee mug.

We moved onto the milk steamer. It took a few goes to get the milk like I wanted it (I usually order a wet latte in a coffee shop). Fiddled with the coffee controls a little more and now I get a brilliant latte. I’m using a well known coffee store bean and I can’t really tell the difference between the coffee shop and the machine.

This is good! Will it stay good? I hope so, this was a bit of an investment for me so I’m hoping the machine will work for a good long while.

We haven’t changed the temperature settings, nor the grinding wheel and have left these to their defaults so far. So yes, good machine….

    Very impressed
    Only had this machine 48Hrs!

Cons: manual is absolute rubbish. Bin it. Go on Youtube, and there’s a couple of instructional videos there – well worth a visit! PLEASE ensure you look at these before starting the machine up; this will ensure a quick start and quality coffee. The milk frother is a little slow, however it produces a *great* foam.

    But…

I’m no coffee expert, but this produces nothing like I’ve had before – I’ve gone through many machines over the years.

To get going, you will need to fine tune it – which is easy. Fill her up, put the beans in and time a delivery of 2 x espressos. 20 – 25 seconds is the optimum. Adjust the grinder settings but please do this when the machine is running!

I’ve done some ‘coffee’, espressos, Latte, Cappuccino.. all with great results without adjusting anything. I have not used the dispenser for ground coffee yet, so can’t comment on that.

Easy to clean, the drip and grounds trays are easily removable and easy to rinse out.

Cannot comment on its longevity, as I’m 48 hrs in; I took out extended insurance as well, just in case.

    5 stars. Simples. Buy one.

My 25 year old Gagia Tebe coffee machine finally gave up and a friend had this machine and recommended it to me and I’m very grateful as it’s an excellent bean to cup coffee machine. I’m now drinking more black coffee as I find the flavour even though the beans are the same better from this machine. I notice Amazon keep altering the price from about 280 to 350, so I would wait till the price comes down. Excellent bean to cup coffee machine, if I needed another machine I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another.

    Amazing coffee machine
This was bought to replace a machine which was more than double the price. The broken machine was the full barista experience (code for a real hassle!) This is bean to cup. I didn’t have high expectations because it isn’t very expensive but I cannot believe I didn’t get this sooner.
I’ve been using this for 6 months now and the last coffee I made just now is as good as the very first. This is important because even low range models can produce good coffee for a week but then it’s all downhill from then.
It’s easy to use. Easy to clean. Makes perfect coffee every time.
I’ve tried many bean, some very expensive but I’m using Aldi espresso beans (approx 1.50 250g) and they are perfect. Much better than some of the premium brands.
    Couldn’t be happier.

Totally great machine. 6 years later, still going strong.
It’s probably been making 10-15 cups of excellent coffee every day for 6 years with no problems.

It does need regular cleaning (buy some citric acid powder rather than expensive coffee machine cleaner) and the diffuser has needed servicing / cleaning a couple of times which is easy enough to do if you can follow a youtube video.

If the worst happens and this one finally stops working then I will definitely buy another. In fact, I might buy another anyway so that I can have one for decafe and one for regular coffee.

    Well worth considering
Makes a good cup of coffee. Quick and easy to use. The milk frother is slow to use better using a electric milk warmer. It’s noisy in operation. The faults are outwayed by the quality of coffee it makes. Good entry level machine, well worth the cost. Would recommend.

This machine is so easy definitely would say yes
I love this coffee machine so easy to use once you have sussed it out how to make coffee and it’s not that hard. You would be totally shocked as to how easy it is to use. It’s far better that I have had before plus it not my first DELONGHI machine. Although I didn’t take the extra warranty out. Now as soon as it arrived I did take a warranty out but I took it out with Domestic & General who all my electrical appliances are and have always been covers by. That’s the only reason I didn’t take the one that’s actually for sale with the machine. I would advise if you bought this machine and you would be mad to buy a different one if this is around the figure you want to pay I definitely definitely do recommend. Also as o was saying any appliances I would advise a warranty. I just wanted to keep all my warranty’s together with the same company

Excellent - 4 coffees a day for the last 3 years
I have this coffee machine for over 3 years. It has made at least 4 coffees a day since then and has always worked as expected. Well worth it.
One unexpected advantage is how clean it is, no mess. Before when making coffee I’d always spill some on the counter, but with this machine it takes care of all that, for that alone it’s worth it.
The coffee tastes great, I’d often put two shots in a mug to have it a bit stronger.
I clean it with the de-scaler about once a year (not a problem where I live).
I don’t use the steamer, and I suspect it’s not very powerful, but doesn’t bother me.
    Great investment.

    Nice coffee machine
Bought this machine to replace my caffe corso machine which I gave to my daughter. So far I’m happy with the magnifica which is slightly smaller and quieter. Cleaning the grounds tray seems easier. Only criticisms are that the water reservoir could be bigger and the lights are difficult to see if you locate the machine in the sunlight.

  23. David Hinkle says:

    Requires more attention than expected
The one really irritating thing is that it uses the same indicator for “out of beans” and “grounds bin full”, two issues relating to completely different parts of the machine. The grounds bin signals as full when there’s only three or four cups worth in there. Its effective capacity is much too small.

    Compact Machine
This was a replacement for our old Perfecta machine which we had had for a long time We were a bit dubious about whether the new machine’s compact size would impact on the efficiency of the machine and quality of the coffee, but so far we are very pleased with the coffee it produces. One downside is that the setting for bean strength is a manual dial, it doesn’t have numbered settings so it takes a while to find your preferred setting. It is quieter than our old machine and the more compact size means it looks less obtrusive on the worktop. Flavour obviously depends on the beans used and the type of coffee you like.

Game changer for my coffee drinking. Really excellent, and still pleased 6 weeks on. Would be better if it held more water and was easier to fill, and bean hopper could be larger. But it is really good at making coffee.

Fantastic machine - many ways to tailor your coffee to your own taste
This is a really good machine with a number of good features that others have already listed in their reviews (granularity of the grind, cup size, coffee strength per cup, water temperature etc.) I’ve always used an espresso machine with pre-ground coffee (which, incidentally, you can still use in this machine) and have never previously used a bean-to-cup. The quality of the finished product is seriously improved! The crema it produces is excellent and I genuinely think it tastes better than top coffee shop coffee once you get your own combination of settings just right. It’s also a time saver if you’re used to filling, tamping then cleaning a manual espresso maker. For anyone interested in what type of machine to expect with an Amazon Warehouse Deal – you can probably ignore all the ‘large scratch front, small scratch side’ etc. I’ve had two and neither had any scratches at all despite the description. One had instructions and one didn’t. However, my first one leaked water everywhere each time I made a coffee but Amazon were brilliant and refunded me immediately so I just ordered another one (Warehouse again) and it’s perfect!

A damn fine cup of coffee
A big step up from my aeropress. It is something you can’t help but notice in the kitchen. Setup was straight fwd. The dark art of the perfect cup takes time all the adjustments are there. Can be a little noisy when grinding and then the water pump too. But not awful. Plenty of manufacturer info and videos as well as independent ones. If using tap water you may need to descale on a more frequent basis. The coffee pucks need emptying fairly often but not a complex task. All I can say in summary is mmmm coffee

    New to Bean to Cup
I purchased my Delonghi Magnifica in mid June. There was a slight problem which Amazon attended to with zeal and politeness. I love coffee and my dream was a coffee machine in my home. The unit I purchased was about 300 sterling. I adore the unit. There is a plethora of video’s on YouTube which will walk you through any issue. The manner in which Amazon dealt with me explains why they are taking over the World in retail. I urge you to treat yourself to a beans to cup coffee maker, you will not be disappointed.

2 years of use and still like new
Bought this coffee machine in January 2019 and is still working very well. I have to say we are massive coffee lovers so really happy with its performance, the blending power is spotless and the coffee flavour is kept intact. You can regulate the blending power as well as the strength and size of your cup.
I also like the fact It works for ground coffee so could enjoy decaf blend when pregnant same time when my hubby was prepping himself a strong coffee- all in one coffee machine. You have to, however, descale it frequently if living in the area where the water is hard. The machine turns off on its own if unused for a while.
The only cons I find is the cleaning- the coffee grinds fall everywhere inside of the mwchine so it’s quite difficult to get into every area when cleaning. I found hoovering the dry grinds to be the best solution though.

Quite noisy but a fair cup of coffee
It produces a reasonable cup of coffee. We only drink black coffee so can’t comment on the steam wand. It is quite noisy in operation, so much so that I worry about switching it on if my partner is still sleeping. Also concerned that it won’t be long before the silver grey plastic drip tray gets permanently stained if we don’t notice drips in time or forget to put a cup under to catch the run off during its automatic switch off. That said it looks ok on worktop but does need quite a lot of space above to allow beans to be added. It’s useful to have the ability to add a different coffee, we use this function for decaf, but it does need to be pre-ground.

Have just bought this as a gift for my son because I have had mine 4 years and made coffee over this time 3 times daily and it is brilliant still. You need to clean and descale regularly and I only drink black coffee so don’t froth milk with it but it makes the best coffee. Even if I go out for a meal I prefer to come home and make my own coffee. Woukd recommend this for any coffee drinker who likes black coffee with just cafe creamer on top.

it takes time to get the bes
For the money it is a reasonable machine. Out of the box it did not work, I had to phone DeLonghi and talk to an engineer to go through a sequence that reset the logic so it would work. Not difficult but the help number they give you in the box is out of service so a search on the internet was needed to find a number for their service department. After a few minutes of covid announcements I was eventually put through, chap who answered was very good. Very helpful and would not end the call until he was sure I was happy. It then takes quite a few wasted coffees to get to the exact settings that you need for the flavour and crema you want. I have invested in a separate grinder so I can have some different flavour and strength options, the built in hopper for the built in grinder is not convenient for anything other than you daily usual beans. The milk steamer is not at all brilliant, it heats the milk but I have yet to achieve a decent froth for a cappuccino. All in all a good competent machine, but not one for a serious barista.

    Good enough but...
This machine is compact for a bean to cup one, it looks tidy and after 7 months has proved easy to use and clean, though descaling has been a bit of an issue. More later.
It took me a while to find a blend and strength of coffee I was happy with but it’s now ok, although set almost at max settings for grind, (just below 1 on the dial) at 3.o’clock for coffee volume and 11.o’clock for water level/strength. If I wanted any stronger a flavour, not sure where I’d go other than to venture into stronger roast.
Other reviewers have commented on the noise. It is noisy and I’m not sure why it is so bad. Some of it seems to be material and construction which exacerbates the grind and infusion noise.
In this household, it’s predecessor was also a DeLonghi, Prima Donna costing 3 times as much. It made a far superior cup in my view but as it did not live very long (4 years, is that a good life for an 800 coffee machine?) I decided to try this less expensive model. Its doing alright. For the money I’d call it a good buy.
On the descaling I have found the instructions less than helpful. completed the task twice now and neither time did the process work as instructed nor take 30 mins as advised. Neither does it go “perform a series of rinses and pauses to remove limescale…” but pumps the cleaner through twice only before coming to a stop a) before the water tank is actually empty and b) within about 5-10 mins max. In fact the water tank cannot empty because the water outlet is necessarily above the bottom of the tank and therefore cannot drain the bottom. This also confused me initially on the actual rinsing process. The instructions say “When the tank is completely empty the descaling light goes out.” It doesn’t completely empty and in my case the light does not go out. “The water jug light, cup lights and steam lights flash.” In my case they all came on and stayed on. Confused again, I waited a few minutes and then turned the steam knob back to zero (as instructed). The machine then switched off as it was supposed to. Anyone else had this experience?

We had a nightmare getting this delivered. But that isn’t the fault of the coffee machine, which is amazing.
It can be a bit confusing working out the buttons at first but once you’ve sussed it out, you will love it.
I have finally ventured into using the milk frother on the side and I can now say that even this is a great part of the machine.
In regards to flavour, pick a good bean and it’ll be lovely. Pick a bad bean and the coffee machine can’t fix that.
Overall I would HIGHLY recommend. Just be warned about delivery.

I had a Nespresso machine for years, it was ok but ended up just sitting on the worktop in the kitchen. Then a few months ago I tried one of the stove top machines, Godmorn Stovetop Espresso Maker, Italian Coffee Maker Moka Pot, this made nice coffee, but it wasn’t the coffee shop experience. Looked at the Magnifica S and decided to buy it based on reviews and the fact that it was bean to cup. I can honestly say that this machine makes the best cup of coffee I have ever had. Loads of videos on Youtube for support and operating instructions. I like a nice strong coffee and this delivers, so easy as well. It probably takes the same amount of time to make an instant coffee. I really do recommend this coffee machine.

I would recommend this, my first bean to cup machine.
This seems exactly what we were looking for and does exactly what it promised.
We had a slight issue but the care line were very helpful and offered YouTube links for guidance. I think I’d caused the issue as the manual is very thin and not comprehensive and I hadn’t followed something properly. So its a fairly expensive product with a flinsy guide but I’m very happy with the machine.
One other thing, after 2 weeks it asked us to decalc the machine. We don’t live in a hard water area, so we had to change the water setting as it defaults to hard water.
Overall it’s simple to use, we use it a lot and wouldn’t swap it now, the coffee is perfect, we couldn’t ask for more than that.

A great cup of coffee & cut down on my Costa bills!
Bought this back early Dec’20. It was a present for when the family could meet and it was used non-stop!
Having used a cafeteria for years, this seemed a little noisy but you get used to that..
It takes time to get familiar with the flashing buttons but you get to know after a while. Sometimes the clean button flashes when there are only a few grounds to empty. This is simple to do and then unusable again.
I clean this container with small paint brush as the grounds are slightly damp and stick a little. Not a problem. Then occasionally rinse out.
I always leave a cup under the spouts to catch the rinsing water thus saving time cleaning the tray so often.
I use it on the hottest water setting.
The water tank is easy to slide in and out on the right hand side.
It is trial and error with your size of cup and dial settings. I have shown you the settings used for my mug.
As you can see, when the spouts are pulled down above the mug/cup, the coffee comes out almost creamy. No milk added to this mug yet!
The coffee smells and tastes lovely. I have tried a few but Aldi & Lidl’s own coffee bean are very affordable and just as good. The beans are easy to insert…just lift lid left side and pour in
I am very happy with my Delongue Magnifica.

Excellent 2 in 1 bean-to-cup and ground coffee machine, with some very minor issues. Good buy!
I had it for a month now and I make cappuccino every day using either grounded coffee or beans.

I really like how easy it is to clean. Daily cleaning is automatic, only have to do more thorough cleaning about once a month, but even that one is easy.

The machine, particularly the knobs and trays, looks and feels a bit cheap plasticy, but it compensates it with a very reasonable price. See the markings on the tray after just one month.

Coffee tastes nice and was easy to setup and use.
My only annoyance is that it asks me to clean the coffee ground container way too frequently, even when the bin is not even half full.
But overall, I’m very pleased with it and would 100% recommend it to others if they are looking for a professional machine under 300, which isn’t easy to find.

One caveat: this machine might not be on sale for too long as I think De’Longhi is working on a new model. So grab a deal till you can, or wait for the new model.

    Proper job
Had it a couple or month now and it’s a Cracking bit of kit and has helped us cut down on buying coffee out and no more capsules!. It’s abit cumbersome and the cleaning cycles are more often than I would have liked, a necessary evil I guess, other than that would have been full marks. Stick beans in the top, press button and off you go!

Easy to use fresh tasty coffee in a minute, beans or ground
First thing the coffee it makes is great and easy. Added bonus…if you want a change from your regular beans you can just pop a scoop of ground coffee in the top and make a cuppa that way.
Replaced a barista style machine with bean grinder and frothing wand. Read the instructions first! The settings from the factory where it was tested are a good baseline, but if you are like me and twist every knob to make sure everything turns and works you better remember roughly where they were. For a standard coffee you just turn on wait 30 seconds for warm up and press the button. Hey presto smooth rich coffee within 30 seconds.
There are lots of clunks and whirs inside the machine at startup as it does it’s cleaning cycle (and when it shuts down), but not as loud as using an external grinder.
The really good thing: awesome steam power on the milk frother quickly gives you really quick hot frothy milk.
The niggly thing: the grounds collector needs a bit of jiggling to be in correctly.
The annoying thing: After you’ve used the steam wand it can take up to 10 minutes before you can get another coffee. This is waiting for things to cool down. The hack is to run hot water through the steamer until the coffee cup symbols stop flashing (about 10-15 seconds).

Pays for itself if you're using pods now.
Bought to stop all the plastic waste my previous machine created, should have got this first. I used to spend at least 50 a month on the plastic pods, now I spend about a tenner a month on the beans, saving 40 a month. I’ve already had it 4 months so it has almost half paid for itself already, and the spent grinds go in my wormer rather than staying encased in a plastic pod in a landfill site somewhere. Only downside is you can’t vary the flavours easily like you can with the pods, but a small price to pay for all the benefits it brings.

Use it everyday, all day! I wouldn't be without it!
Pondered buying this for a long time as it is a big price jump from a filter machine. Now I wouldn’t be without it! Lovely coffee with a creamy finish, at the touch of a button. Great for straight black and the milky latte and cappuccino. My daughter uses the milk frother for Horlicks and hot chocolate.

It is one of those purchases that you think about for a while but then once you have it, you wonder what you did before!

Only problem is the cup sizes are small and to get a full mug, you need to add 2 or 3 shots.

You can kiss your Costa goodbye!!

Great machine, great features, great coffee.
I’ve been a Nespresso/Starbucks pod user for many years until my Nespresso machine began leaking for the second time, so I decided to try something different. I didn’t want to go too mad price wise initially and, looked at the De’Longhi Magnifica bean to cup machine reviews and decided to buy one. Probably the best 252 I’ve ever spent. I’ve been using Starbucks coffee beans at 15 kg which works out at about 11p per cup. That’s a third of the price of Starbucks pods by the way, and more like a quarter the price of Nespresso ones. Not only that, it makes a great coffee exactly to your liking with your preferred coffee bean. Personally, I like Starbucks Dark Roast.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersCracking machine - I’m not regretting the purchase
These units are a fair outlay especially, as my wife said, I had a perfectly good, working Dolche Gusto pod machine. I was a little nervous at first as there is so many features which are customisable. With a little practice I’ve got my blend and flavour Bob on. Steamed, frothy milk, cleaning is a doddle. My only concern is I’ve been awake for six days straight now, maybe I should cut back on the caffeine!

Great if you read the instructions
Excellent machine. Make sure you read the instructions well; it’s not a toy and is a complex piece of kit. That said, after familiarising yourself with the basics, it’s pretty straightforward. Just check you have water in it, and check the bin isn’t full of used powder. If you use coffee that’s pre ground, just turn the strength knob anti clockwise and use the central hopper. Don’t do this if the machine isn’t turned on. And make sure you use the single cup button. Also note that you should only change the grind setting as the grinder is operating. If you do those things you shouldn’t have any problems. I live in a hard water area, so I use bottled water from a soft water area, like Buxton or highland spring. That means you can set the machine to soft water use which will mean less frequent descaling. Lots of control over grind coarseness, flavour strength and coffee amount, so you can tailor it to your taste. Cappuccino frother works well, gives mixture of hot milk and froth. Always clean the frother tube after use, wipe it and remove it, run it under a tap and then run a shot of steam through it before putting it back. Just get into the habit and it’s very quick and straightforward. I love it. (I’ve gone into some detail about how to use it since I know a couple of idiots who haven’t read the instructions properly and blame the machine…)

    It's so so
For the price I’m happy with it, if it was more money I would have looked elsewhere.
It makes a decent cup of coffee, not a very big cup.
Seems to not use much beans so the pressed bean powder is not a lot of waste.
Not sure if it is faulty as had 10 cups so far and only 5 pressed bean waste has come out.
Bit week on coffee and have it on full.

    Excellent.
After looking at several coffee machines with a built in grinder I finally settled for this one, I have used it several times a day every day since I purchased it 2 years ago and it is still in great condition.

I have had to descale it a few times but not very often, it warns you when you have to descale it.

The milk steamer works great, very easy to use but not so easy to master when trying to be like the baristas in the coffee shops.

If you’re a coffee lover then stop settling for freeze dried or grinding your own beans or having to wait for 5 minutes for the coffee to brew. This machine will do it for you.

    First impressions
I got this machine earlier today and found the setup quite straightforward (especially for me who hates reading instructions before play)
I found I needed to set water temperature higher as I like my coffee hot and the grind seemed a little to course at factory setting so I turned the knob one click finer.
The machine is very convenient to get a quick coffee without much hassle so is better in that respect to my espresso machine which is time-consuming and messy if you just want one cup of coffee.
I do not expect the same quality as you would get from a dedicated espresso machine but still an acceptable cup.
So far impressed for the price.

    Amazing..... completely exceeded my expectations
I have ‘downgraded’ from a sage 600 make. I honestly did not expect this machine to be anywhere close in taste and ease of use. It has completely exceeded my very low expectations (sorry De’longhi!). This machine gives an amazing cup of coffee and I’m a complete coffee snob, not a costa or Starbucks gal! I’m so happy with it I would definitely say that I prefer it to the expensive sage model. It is too easy to use, seriously 1 button and you have your coffee. Only issue is that the milk frothier could be a little bit more flexible/accessible but it still does the job fine. Ive had this machine for nearly 2 months and have no complaints. The majority of 1 star ratings are obviously from imbeciles who cannot read instructions.

I did a lot of homework before splashing out on a coffee machine and this came highly recommended.

It’s honestly one of the best purchases I’ve made in recent times and I can’t stop telling people about it.
It’s very quick, not too noisy and makes a glorious cup of coffee.
It is very easy to clean and the large water container means you’re not changing the water every few cups.
I’ve had it for 6 months now, it’s used multiple times a day and I only had to descale it once so far, which was a few weeks ago.
    Life changing purchase

I love this machine as I had one previously. Unfortunately there was a fault on arrival and I had to send it back for repairs. All well now but unfortunately I included the op.manual when I returned it and it didn’t come back even though I ask Amazon to send me another one. No response. I also lost the free descaler that I also sent back and it wasn’t returned. Be glad for some action as I need the manual when I descale the machine. Help!!!

It’s been over 6 months since I had a really decent cup of coffee and in the meantime I’ve been making do with a Nespresso machine. But after 10 years of use, it developed a leak so I took the plunge and bought this.

Setup took about 10 minutes including testing/setting the water hardness (I have a softener but tested anyway), filling the water, beans and running a few test cups through.

The final result is simply perfect. Maybe I just fluked it but I got a perfect cup of coffee first time which puts the Nespresso to shame.

    Very happy.

EDIT: After 1 year of ownership, I would still rate this as 5*. A few minor points however. The plastic door is a bit flimsy (but no issue with it even though it gets used daily). The tray that captures the used coffee does not capture all the used / ground coffee, but a monthly thorough clean out solves for that.

I have a water softener so have not had to descale the machine, but did so after 6 months in any case.

Otherwise, all still perfect – perfect coffee around 4-5 times a day every day without fail. And cost to run versus pod machines works out at around 30-40p a day for this versus around 150p per day for more and infinitely better coffee. So the machine has paid for itself already nearly twice over.

Great coffee machine and good value for money
Firstly I’ve had this coffee machine for a few months now and I can definitely say the coffee from this machine is very nice. You can change all sorts of settings to design your perfect cup. The steamer is brilliant and you can hone (or try to) your latte art. So that’s the ultra positive element, the slightly off putting for some is the noise level it is quite a noisy machine so 5am coffees mean doors are getting shut this doesn’t really affect us as we shut the door and it’s not that bad. The 2nd slight annoyance is the consistent de-scaling indicator that comes on all too regularly now this is a mixed point for me as we live in a hard water area so if we actually want our machine working in a year or so and want to keep it working well then regular de-scaling is a must to be honest so it depends how much you value your machine. We’ve kept it clean and look after it and so far have had nothing but amazing coffee and a nice machine on display. Overall we’re very happy and nothing about this machine causes us any issues 🙂

Good machine-difficult to get to customer service
When I first bought this machine I wrote a one star review because They sent the wrong manual & I found it really difficult to get customer service by any means. However, when I did finally get to a personin customer servive, Becky was very helpfulin getting me the correct manual &getting me a water hardness tester:so, Becky, thanks for that. As to the machine itself, we have now had it for two weeks & made over 50 cups of coffee. The results are excellent, as we have been able to modify the taste, following the instructions in the book. We are very pleased with the results as the coffee compares favourably with the coffee shop product.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMakes decent coffee and simple enough to use my 2 year old can do it.
So to completely honest I didn’t pay full price for this item, I got it from amazon warehouse as a used item at a significantly reduced price. That being said, now I have used it I would pay full price if I had to buy it again (and there was no warehouse options).

As for the machine, it’s fairly big but still fit’s nicely on my worktop under my kitchen cabinets. It’s a little noisy but not that much more than the Tassimo I’d been using previously. Noisiest part is the bean grinding but only last a few seconds so it’s no big deal.

Using it is easy enough once you get the dials set how you like it. As the headline says my two year old won’t let anyone make their own coffee, he has to do it (Just need to get him to keep that up when he’s a teenager ). Cleaning is easy enough too just rinse the trays under the tap and every week or 2 pull out the infuser and let it soak in some warm water for a few minutes then rinse it off as well.

The important part however is the coffee.

If I’d written this a few weeks ago I’d have said it’s on par with my previous Tassimo, that is until i actually had a Tassimo coffee again at my mother-in-law’s. Seems this machine has spoiled me somewhat as the Tassimo coffee tasted bitter and very burnt in comparison. So, considering I’ve not exactly been using super expensive premium beans, the coffee is very good. Perhaps not quite on par with Starbucks or Costa, but more than close enough for the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Usersa great bean to cup machine
My first bean to cup to replace a nespresso machine. Coupled with Lavazza beans from Amazon this is a match made in heaven.
    Simple tips.
Turn up as hot as possible, the second cup will be a bit hotter.
Put quantity dial to 12 o’clock (mid way)
    Put strength to max.
Only adjust bean grind when it is grinding or you may damage the machine
Turn off at panel not plug as you could turn it off in the middle of an operation.
If it wont make coffee it is likely the used grounds bin needs emptying (use as fertiliser) or the water is empty.
Keep your beans sealed in the fridge for storage.
The drip tray and coffee ground bin can go in the dishwasher.
    A+++++

Up there with one of the best things I’ve ever purchased. Have owned this machine for nearly 18 months and used on a 2-3 times daily in a very hard water area with no major issues. Have descaled once using a big bottle of generic descaler from Amazon that worked just as good as the branded stuff.
I tend to avoid the more oily beans as I don’t think they work great in this. I would also recommend keeping the water level in the dial closer to the espresso level and topping up with water from the kettle as it gets to a higher temp. You can get a nice strong coffee if you tune the dials correctly.
I don’t make many lattes/cappuccinos but when I have they’ve turned out decent but you’ll struggle to get that dense foam you need.
My only slight negative is that over time the used puck/waste container has become more sensitive so it now shows as full after only 3 or 4 cups.
I got this on a used warehouse deal for 150 but would have paid double, I’ve seen this machine in pubs and small hotels so I have no doubt that it’s built to last. I would not hesitate to buy again if it broke as although the coffee isn’t a 10/10 it’s a two button push for a solid 7 every morning.

De'Longhi Magnifica, Automatic Bean to Cup Coffee Machine
Bit of along term test, as we bought this machine a couple of years ago and just never got around to putting my thoughts down on here. All in all, this coffee machine was a worth while, sound investment. I am an inveterate coffee drinker and although my wife enjoys her tassimo pod machine, I prefer to shop around for beans and grind my own.
The machine has worked flawlessly since we owned it and is used daily, it requires the normal de-scaling procedure every moth or so, but this is normal and should not be considered a fault. My only minor niggle is the size of the fresh water container which needs regularly filling or topping up. A slighly larger container would be better but by default would probably make the machine wider or taller. Other than this minor gripe, the machine produces a decent cup of coffee from beans or pre-ground. A happy buyer as the price was competitive when compared with some other machines.

Now 5 years and still as below
We have had this machine 4 years in November, never had a problem, we have between 4 and 6 coffees a day from it and maybe upto 20 a day when we have visitors. We have always used a filter jug for the water and set to soft water and descaled every second warning and its never missed a beat, took some time to find the settings for strength etc that suited us, and a coffee bean we liked. Now we can make coffee thats the same taste and strength that we like, we use the frother every time and take the milk to 65 degrees, we have a kitchen temp probe, but we could just use our ears as you will find the noise changes at about the right temp, we use skimmed milk too, semi skimmed does make a better froth. Only adjust the grind size while the grinders running, once we found the desirable speed of flow and strength we have not adjusted in 3 years. Yes it took us maybe 50 cups of coffee over a couple of weeks to fine tune and understand the machine, everyone we make coffee for loves it, we now realise a good strong Arabica bean covers most tastes, occasionally we try different coffees, the Lidl French ground coffee is nice, yes you can put ground coffee in the machine, Its been easy to keep clean, run etc and the grinds are great for your garden, I would have another no hesitation.

Great budget bean to cup coffee machine!
    Very happy with my purchase.

    POSITIVES:
    Price
    Size
    Grinding ability
Flavour (of course heavily dependent on the beans you use).
Ease of Cleaning (can easily be done in less than 10 mins).

    NEGATIVES:
    Very noisy when grinding.
On maximum cup volume it dispenses just over half of a ‘standard’ mug (which is easily overcome by double-shotting or adding hot water from the hot water dispenser).

    OVERALL:
Delighted, tastes as good as my in-laws 1200 Jura machine.
As with all coffee machines, you need to make sure you clean it regularly (once a week is fine). If you forget you’ll come back to furry mould which means cleaning takes three time longer.

A good machine and a big improvement on my previous De Longhi. The item is easier to clean and also fairly simple to set up. The grouts are noticeably wetter than those from the earlier Magnifica and I have not yet figured out why.
Now, if the company can produce an affordable coffee machine that allows a user to add water and beans without dismantling anything (as my old Gaggia Synchrony could), I would give it five stars.

    Once mastered easy to use
A very capable machine but extremly fiddley to use. Instructions quite comprehensive but lots of buttons to press and set. The flavour you get depends on the beans used so rather a futile rating. Keep instructions handly for de scaling as in hard water areas this is necessary every 3 months or sooner. Cleaning regularly is a must as the internals get clogged up with coffee powder and residue and there are plently of sharp corners to cut knuckles on! But once mastered it does a very good job but be patient!

    Impressive
We’ve had bean to cup machines for several years now, but our De’Longhi Prima Donna, was starting to play up (after 15 years!). We only drink Black coffee nowadays, so all the ‘bells and whistles’ of an expensive machine, wasn’t needed. Ordered 9.30pm on the Wednesday, delivered lunchtime the following day! Pretty impressed to say the least….
The new machine was set up and working within 5 minutes and immediately, we both remarked on how easy it was. The 1st ‘proper’ cup was delivered (recommendation that at least 4 cups are made initially, before the taste really comes through) and it was lovely.
Not a real gripe, but we wished it had timed auto start like our old one, but it’s not an issue to press a button and wait 30 seconds.
Overall a great machine. Very happy.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSuper-dooper!
My first bean-to-brew machine was a Vera and cost over 1500 — it lasted three days longer than its guarantee then ignominiously failed. A 250 repair lasted two weeks longer than its three month guarantee. And then the same thing happened again. I threw out that Vera machine and a weight was lifted from my shoulders (but only after 2000 had departed my wallet)! I then bought the De’Longhi Magnifica which was so extraordinarily good that when my three adult children finally left to move into their own homes, each chose to buy one too. What an accolade! The machine is perfectly brilliant EXCEPT that if you like frothed milk with your coffee, a separate machine (such as the excellent 50 Dualit DMF1 milk frother), is hugely faster and a lot better than anything the Magnifica can achieve. The only other thing on my wish-list is a bigger water-tank, or a way to connect to mains water. The existing tank takes a little over a litre of water (about enough for four-five mugs) but doubling or trebling the tank size would only add a few inches to the machine’s width. Maybe most users would not have the counter-top space so I’d like De’Longhi to offer this big-tank option as the ‘Magnifica Plus’. If they are reading this review, I hope they will consider my suggestion. Tank-size apart, this is a GREAT machine which I recommend unreservedly.

Great coffee machine if a little noisy
This is quite a large bean to cup coffee machine but over the nearly 6 months we have had it (lockdown essential) it’s been reliable and consistent in providing great coffee.

The only niggles we have are that it’s quite noisy – especially during start up when it makes 40 or so loud grunting noises whilst presumably self cleaning. The grinder when making your coffee is also quite loud.

It should be noted that we haven’t used the milk frothed because we have a separate machine for milk foaming.

To summarise this is a great coffee machine and maintenance has been low/non-existent over the last few months. And we have used it multiple times a day, every day! Haven’t had to descale it yet as we have had to with other machines we have owned from other manufacturers. Just be mindful if you like a quiet kitchen!

6 months later still loving it. X
So I did a lot of research and it came down to costs and easy to use.
Many coffee machines seem to have a compulsary water filture – this one doesn’t.
Also once you get the hang on what all the buttons and knobs are for and what your tastes are it is pretty easy to use.
You can set this up for how much you want your beans ground to the amount of grounds used in the shot.
Then you can have upto 2 shots and also do 2 cups at a time.
The milk steamer keeps it heat without the need to keep reheating enough to froth up enough milk for a cappucino.
You can pretty much make any espresso based beverage with this.
I love that the milk steamer nozzel is detachable for cleaning after each use.

My only negetive at this stage is that the milk steamer arm is too close to the machine – it bends out but doesn’t clear the edge of the machine enough to allow full movement of your jug.

    AFTER 6 MONTHS
    I still love this machine!
I’ve had no issues with fault etc. Still makes a lovely cup of coffee.
Love I can use decaf grounds.

My few points are that if using decaf ensure you have the dial turned to scoop before you fill with grounds. It leaves an aweful mess in the machine as it falls through and you end up with a full ground tray symbol for days after. I would recommend if single cups to empty the grounds tray inside as it can be forgotten and turn nasty.
Tips for the ground tray line it with kitchen paper as the grounds stick to the inside which makes it a bugger to clean. Plus they absorb some of the moisture.

Also to get a good strong coffee you do have you have the dial turned up and i always hit the double espresso button.

Also pop your mug under the sprout as soon as you switch on to catch the water used to clean it. Saves having to keep cleaning out the drip tray. Do the same when your done as it self cleans again as it self turns off.

Apart from this I love it. Great coffee from a great machine. X

Excellent upgrade from a pod machine
Our first bean to cup machine and love it! Once we got the strength and grind levels right (didn’t take long), we were enjoying top quality coffee! Make sure you buy good beans though! We like Coffee Masters coffee beans, although Lavazza is a good all-rounder. Just one criticism though – if you use ground coffee, we had occasional probs with the machine telling us there was none in there when we added the recommended scoop.. Other than that, a highly recommended coffee machine

I bought this to replace an identical one bought seven years ago.
The old one had worked hard using a kilo of beans per month (6 to 8 cups per day) over its life when it finally gave up. Hot coffee was escaping from the rear of the spout unit into the water tray so I decided to replace the whole thing rather than incur the possibly high cost of repair. The price reduction since 2013 was another major factor.
Thanks to the speedy delivery service of Amamzon Prime (next day) I wasn’t without coffee at all!

Just bought this product and upgraded from a Tassimo pod machine, to be able to get a huge selection of coffee.

Firstly, I would ask you to assess your general intellect, are you smart? Do you have common sense? It amazed me how many people have left negative comments that clearly didn’t read their instruction manual properly. I mean, it took me 10 minutes to read the instruction manual and understand how to use all the features quickly and without referring back to the instructions.

Coffee temp – you can turn the temp up of the coffee to four settings, the highest setting was too hot for me especially when making a flat white, with hot frothed milk. So i’ve gone back down to heat setting 3/4. You can also use the hot water function to heat the cup beforehand which again will probably give you 20% more heat, depends if you ask for extra hot from a barista shop usually or not.

Steamer takes ages to cool down – As per the instruction manual the steamer needs to clear due to the temperature. You can either wait which will take probably 5-8 mins OR you can let all the steam out with the hot water function and within 20 seconds you’re ready to make coffee again, very very simple and quick.

Loud – So this one made me laugh a little bit, the machine is no louder than what my tassimo was so not sure what people are use to, I mean maybe people forget when you walk into a Starbucks or alternative that it’s exceptionally loud, one because so many people sitting and chatting (well use to be the case) and second due to the coffee grinders going and machines. The majority of the noise is the coffee beans being grinded, if you have ever heard a coffee grinder machine it sounds the exact same.

Overall it’s a great machine, zero problems with it, milk easy to froth, controls super easy, instruction manual takes 10 mins to read, took me 10 minutes to set up selecting water hardness, coffee temp and how long you want auto shutdown to be or you can completely remove it. Apart from the hot water, a 12 year old could set this machine up and use it daily.

Haven’t commented on the difficulty to clean yet as not had to clean it. Just wanted to leave this review as some of the above things that people had turned ant hills not even mole hills into mountains nearly put me off, so don’t be put off.

Still playing around with coffee bean coarseness, strength and how much water is pulled through but that’s been quite fun, amazing how different the coffee tastes from these three elements.

I’ve only used beans so not had the ground coffee issue, tbf I don’t see why you would buy a ‘Bean to Cup’ machine, if you are going to use ground coffee. Probably the same people that do not read the instructions.

Very easy to use - don't forget the setup steps!
On reading the other reviews I was concerned about some comments on a long warm up time. Mine arrived and I duly plugged it in, topped up the water, added beans and turned it on. Sat there waiting for ages watching the lights flash and thought “Oh no! It’ll have to go back.”. After finally deciding to read the manual I realised there were a couple of setup steps required. Those done it warms up in <30 seconds, I find by the time you've got a cup, milk etc. ready the machine is hot and ready to go.

Making coffee is very easy, took some fine tuning for the grind, bean and water volume but now those are all set every cup is the same. It warns you in the manual to make all the coffee you need before using the steam pump as the machine needs to cool back down after steaming (manual says c. 10 minutes), seems fairly reasonable to me for a home machine.

Six months into ownership I have no issues at all with the machine, no problems etc. and for the price it works very well. Certainly a lot cheaper overall than going to [insert coffee chain here] every day.

We liked it so much, we bought two
In my previous career as an office manager, I learned just how important great coffee is for office workers and visiting clients alike. Guess what: it’s just as important for me at home. Good coffee really gives you a boost, and not just because of the caffeine. After a lot of research, I bought this coffee machine for my flat in London. My partner and I love it so much, that we bought a second machine for our other property. It makes great coffee and is easy to clean (but we do keep the manual to hand). We do find that we have to top up the water all the time, but I guess that is par for the course with a machine that is not connected to the water supply. I think that it is excellent value for money.

This being my first bean to cup coffee machine I didn’t want to spend too much on one, but at the same time I didn’t want to buy something cheap that I might want to replace soon. This machine suits me down to the ground, it does what I need it to and does it well. Now, I am no coffee aficionado but I do enjoy a good cappuccino and this machine makes them to the standard I would expect from a good coffee shop.

It was relatively straight forward to set up by following the instructions which also told me how to set the water hardness and change the temperature settings.

I’ve read a few reviews that say it is messy or hard to clean, but can’t say I’ve had any problems. I clean it regularly and most of the time there is a few bits of coffee grind to clean up, but what do you expect it’s a messy business grinding all those beans.

I would recommend this machine for those folk not wanting to spend a fortune on a bean to cup coffee machine who like a decent coffee without seeking the full barista experience.

    Magnifico!
I absolutely love this machine. I’ve had everything from a drip coffee maker, french press, and several espresso makers. This machine is the best espresso / latte / Americano maker I’ve had. It does everything from grinding beans to frothing milk. The espresso is dispensed with a beautiful crema layer. If you like espresso, dialing the cup level indicator all the way down pulls a nice shot with that yummy crema, while dialing it all the way up pulls an Americano. The milk frother is excellent, giving full creaminess to the milk. The very best part is that you don’t have to pack your espresso then scrape it out of a handle, it’s all done automatically — the machine even ejects the spent espresso into a container and then flushes its own internal pipes! WOW! Some may fine that it is a little bit loud, but it does not bother us for the end result is magnifico. Highly recommend.

    Wish I’d bought soone
Best thing I have bought from Amazon for a long time! Whilst I am not a complete coffee connoisseur I do enjoy having nice coffee. I purchased this machine for Christmas and have used it every single day for the last 18 months.

I use it in combination with a Nespesso Aeroccino Milk warmer (this reduces the amount of cleaning of the coffee machine required and the water usuage.

Cleaning is pretty straight forward and only needs to be done every other month, although emptying the coffee granules bin is quite regular.

It took a little bit of experimented with the grind, coffee amount and strength setting but once dialed in it makes great coffee.

With bags of beans only 1.50 from Aldi why would you not have great coffee!

Great bean-to-cup machine on a budge
This coffee machine is so easy to use. Make sure you read the setup manual, as you can’t just plug it in and go. I like that it is bean to cup – no need to grind and tamp yourself! The coffee comes out with a good crema if you set it for an espresso shot. The milk wand is not the best, but you can absolutely still froth milk with it. Overall this machine makes good coffee, is really easy to use and is good value for money.

On recommendation I bought this machine
I’m pleased I bought this machine. It’s just what I want. It makes coffee quickly and easily. A friend has got a Krupps machine with the water container at the back and it’s a faff to fill and the coffee is never hot enough.
This DeLonghi is easy to set up, easy to use and easy to clean. My only complaint would be that the grounds container fills quickly and I seem to be forever emptying it (maybe I drink too much coffee).

I would recommend this to anyone, it’s made my working from home really pleasant coffee wise.

    Impressive Machine
I bought my machine from Amazon Warehouse so it came with some cosmetic scratches and no manual. I wasn’t actually aware I was purchasing a ‘used’ item but I am entirely to blame for not reading properly. However for the cut price and how well the machine works I am thoroughly happy with my mistake.

When setting up the machine, follow the instructions carefully. The black plastic box catches the used coffee and needs to slot into the drip tray as one to shut the machine properly.

When I first tried using it the machine said there was no water and made a terrible noise but after attaching the water tank again it worked fine. If this happens persevere. I’ve read reviews where people sent the machine back due to it making a loud noise and not working during set up but I think this is an initial issue with water flow connection and once you ensure the water tank is all the way in and connected it will work.

The coffee from this machine tastes great and it’s really easy to use. You can adjust temperature and cup size and can pour two coffees at once. The espresso is great.

As others have pointed out, if making a coffee using the milk frother make sure you dispense your espresso first as the machine takes time to cool down after dispensing steam for the frother. However if you forget you can open the valve when off steam mode to speed up the process.

There are people moaning about the quality for the price but for me it’s been more than reasonable for its capability. I’m really impressed and so happy with my lockdown purchase.

Poor instructions but great bean to coffee machine
It was a little difficult to work out how to use it at first as the instructions do not read well but found a few clips on you tube and cracked it !! It will take about 4 or 5 cups of coffee to find out what strength suits you and I would not advise anyone to buy to much of one type of coffee – shop around find what you like, there are some really excellent shops on line and we have found that if the beans have o ly been roasted a few days previously the smoother the coffee which is much nicer.
    Would highly recommend

Golden Review Award: 74 From Our Users4 YEAR REVIEW: Great machine. Couple of quirks.
I bought a De’Longhi Magnifica because I wanted good bean-to-cup lattes during a night shift after all the coffee shops had closed. For 3 years, I had the best coffee in Glasgow after 10pm.

    THINGS I LIKE:
It makes perfect espresso. That’s the most important thing. This means your barista drinks are predictably good. That includes using beans (my knob is set to 9 o’clock) or ground coffee (turn strength knob to 0/spoon symbol). Since moving a year ago, it’s been in my bedroom in London. To my surprise and delight, the water from the steam spout (steam dial on without pushing the steam button) is indeed hot enough for good tea (about 85’C), which obviates the need for a separate kettle. The steam spout is just fine for making milky drinks (hot milk for hot chocolate too). The machine is easy to clean (not descale), which I do about once every 4-6 weeks. I love that I have a one-stop appliance for any hot drink I want.

    THINGS I DON’T LIKE:
The main issue with the machine is that the path of the beans from the grinder to the filter includes a hole which is slightly too narrow. If you open the central lid on top, you can see what I’m describing. Sometimes when using beans, enough of the ground coffee falls down the chute after the grinder that it touches the top edge. This can lead to an amount of freshly ground coffee coming out of the grinder in one go, which blocks the hole above the filter and causes the coffee to back up into the place where you normally put ground coffee. The machine will flash the “grounds full” light, indicating it didn’t get any coffee to use. A little jab into the powder from the top of the machine will clear the blockage and make the coffee fall onto the filter. IMPORTANT: In the early days, I got very frustrated about clearing the blockage and pressing the button for more coffee, grinding another amount of beans, wasting loads of freshly ground and sometimes expensive coffee. One day I realised that clearing the blockage onto the filter was functionally the same as starting with ground coffee as this machine can also do. So, after clearing the blockage with a couple of pokes from a pastry brush or spoon handle, I turned the strength knob to 0/spoon symbol and the machine began pouring on the coffee that had fallen onto the filter, and didn’t grind a new batch (which makes a mess of ground coffee inside the machine). No coffee is wasted this way. Just remember to turn the knob back or you’ll wonder why the machine isn’t grinding beans when you push for your next coffee.
The only other thing I don’t like is that isn’t ideal is that the pressure from the steam nozzle is not that high, which means steaming milk takes about 2 minutes. The results are fine, it’s just a bit slow, and you won’t get the same amount of foam as you would from a coffee shop machine.

    CLEANING:
When you open the front, you remove the tray, the grounds box, and the filter box at the heart of it. The tray cover comes off and the red overflow indicator comes out. I rinse each piece under cold water, just using a brush to get the grounds off, and that’s fine.

DE-SCALING: I’ve done it each time the light has come on, which is 3 times in 4 years. The first and last times, I used the de-scaler that comes with the machine. The 2nd time, I used the descaling instructions but with ordinary distilled spirit vinegar diluted 2 parts vinegar, 1 part water instead, and that worked perfectly fine. I’ll never buy their de-scaler, it’s very strong but unnecessary. The only reason I used it last time was that I found some when I moved. If the light goes off after a vinegar wash, the vinegar has worked and the de-scaler is not needed.

    TIPS:
    1. I took the outer part off the steam adapter and never put it back on. It’s annoying to clean, anyway. If I ever make a milky drink, I just use the inner spout that attaches to the nozzle. The higher the end of the nozzle in the milk, the more foam you’ll get. 2. 99% of the time I don’t have anything attached to the steam pipe, which means when making tea I can leave it to fill a cup on the tray instead of holding the cup under the nozzle off to the side of the machine. There is a little bit of splashing from the hot water drips when using the nozzle this way. 3. I rarely make milky drinks now, so I use the milk jug to catch the water from the cycle when the machine turns on and off, and pour it away every few days. This is much easier than taking out the drip tray, which is shallow and so easy to spill when it’s full. 4. I’ve found that the best coffee comes from having the grinder set to 3, and both the size and strength knobs at 9 o’clock. These things all affect each other, but this is the closest to barista espresso I’ve found, without wasting too much coffee. You can always top it up with water from the nozzle (don’t push the steam button, just turn the steam knob).

I use this machine literally every day. If you’re considering this machine, I buy do it!
I hope you found this review useful, folks. I’d appreciate your follow @chrisjonescomic on Instagram and Twitter. Enjoy your coffee!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMakes a great coffee or espresso, loads of options to customise how you want your drink
First time I have had a bean to cup machine and I like it very much. Bought on Black Friday for 50 off rrp. Should have waited a few days as it went to 100 off later on.
Can adjust for coffe grind fineness, amount of coffee per shot, and amount of water too use so can make all options. Not really adjusted grinding yet as happy with current setting. Favourite is a shorter coffee but press double cup so effectively a double expressso and then froth some milk and this gives you close to a flat white.
Don’t know why people commented on it being made of plastic? So what, it look great and feels solid.
Pretty easy to clean, open it up and give it a wipe when emptying used coffee.
In spite of some comments frothing doesn’t actually prevent making another coffee straight after as the boiler is too hot. You just flush some water through the milk frother which quickly cools the boiler and you can make coffee straight away. Simple
Like the ground coffee function so we can make the odd decaf, just make sure the machine is on before adding as otherwise the coffee just falls straight through the funnel and makes a mess on the inside. Having said that if you do forget just takes a couple of mins to wipe up so no major drama.
All in all would recommend. Hope it lasts many a yea

    much better than older models
i love that i dont have to load and unload the coffee, also it rinses itself when you turn it on/off which is great. it is already set on 30 min so i left it as it is because it suits me. the coffee is hot and creamy, it does make a difference when you change the amount of coffee and the grinding level. the machine has a few users in the house, we all know what we like so we change the settings all the time. we did have a few cups of trials and errors until we found out what we like. as with all delonghi machines, the steam is so loud! but the pressure is good and the temperature is high, all you need is one of those frothing cups with a narrow mouth or you will splash a lot. we like Lavazza beans, it is slightly cheaper when you buy 1 kg bags compared to ground coffee and the taste is a few notches up. we haven’t used the ground coffee function yet…

    First class coffee machine
Bought to replace a very basic espresso coffee machine which only used ground coffee.

I was sceptical that all the previous great reviews in various forums might be wrong however I am mightily impressed with the quality and ease of using this machine. Just fill up with beans and water and off you go!

Perfect coffee every time, though it will need a few weeks to adjust all the setting to personal taste.

Cleaning is very straightforward but remember to do each month to avoid future problems! Also YouTube gives great videos on how to froth milk – follow these and you will create wonderful coffees!

Thoroughly recommended for anyone who enjoys a great cup of coffee at barista standard!

Relisble, simple to use and the best you'll get for the money
My dad has had this machine for 6 years (he loves it), and I have used it frequently over that time, so I bought it knowing what I was getting.

If you love americano’s it’s the easiest machine ever, and I can make my morning latte in less than two minutes. Now I’m no longer buying a coffee each morning on the way to work it has almost paid for itself in the 2 months I’ve had it

Yes its quite loud when grinding beans, so I would avoid making a midnight espresso if in close proximity to anyone sleeping.

I’ve been pretty impressed with the steam wand – given it’s a budget machine. It is however very slow to switch back to coffee making mode after you have used it – so make the coffee first then steam. Its easy to programme, not too needy on maintenance and simple to clean.

Buy yourself some good coffee beans, play around with the settings a bit and you will never look back!

Nice expresso machine for the price!
I got a “used – as new” – meaning a returned item from Amazon and found it unable to prime the water pump and leaking water. Ortherwise the machine was brand new with stickers and all.
Clearly it was not tested after being received by Amazon, and it was likely the reason for it’s return.
A quick inspection revealed a ruptured silicon tube connecting the tank to the pump and was a quick fix, avoiding me the hassle of returning it and helping the environment by possibly saving this unit.

    Overall:
    + great coffee
+ Machine is simple to operate
+ Customizable settings (water temperature, standby time, water hardness)
    + Reasonably easy to clean
    + Self maintenance friendly
    + Easily available replacement parts
    – Loud pump
    – Durability of some components
    – Clunking sounds of the mechanism

    Love i
Makes great coffee and fluffs the milk well as long as you keep the plastic nozzles clean, I use filtered water and the machine lights up when it needs de scaling which I use there brand liquid to do so bought online, doesn’t leave the machine stinking and tasting foul like the cheap aldi style stuff you can buy which should only be used for taps sinks and so on, you need to find tune the grind size, amount dispensed and water amount per cup but the result is a dependable cup after cup once of course you have sorted your beans out, suggest you try lidl columbian supremo or m & s columbian haven’t found any locally freshly roasted beans which cost three times the price any better but we all like different things, everyone seems to likes my coffee and comments on it but it is a tad noisy on start up and shutdown and I’m operation for that matter but you get used to it, if I ever get another machine I will get one with an integrated milk dispenser but they cost a lol more, got my machine on a sale about 130, what a steal they were 600
