This toaster has been used every day for the last 12 years and is going strong and with a good clean looking almost as good as when I bought it. Truly a toaster for life and a style that surpasses every passing fashion.

Yes I knew you can buy a toaster for 20 pound but if you care about how it looks standing outside on the kitchen shelf you need spend a little more and get a nice looking unit, I personally like to buy things that will last and can be repaired, based on online review this unit looked the right one.

So got the unit yesterday and there are few Important things to know, The bread will not jump when heating is done nor will it stops heating when you tforce the bread out before the time completed But other than these two things which are related to the simple design and not some type of a flaw everything else is perfect.
It’s a little bigger than it looks online and its beautiful, kind of a industrial retro look. looking from an Eng point of view it is build to last with high-quality old-school component that you can easily get and fix.

I am very happy with it and feels its money well spent.

Like the ability to raise the toast manually. Toasts evenly and crumb tray easy to empty.

I would not part with the kind of money Dualit require without really reading up.

This is a brilliant piece of kit, even toasting, beautifully made and a pleasure to use. Happy to have spent it.

    A proper no gimmicks toaster.
I’ve been using this for several months now and no complaints. Certainly not the cheapest toaster out there but you generally get what you pay for. Looks good on the kitchen counter, built like a tank, works well and seems to be designed so that it can be repaired should that become necessary.

The clincher for me was that it was made in the UK and not by some poor unfortunate slave labourers in you know where..

    Unlike any other toaste
This is a pleasing piece of design and manufacture that looks as if it hasn’t changed since the 50s. Two burly stainless steel end panels bookend a comparatively delicate bent sheet metal casing, all fastened together like an old aircraft. The switchgear is fantastically utilitarian. The controls work independently of eachother. The heating element is operated by a timer, not a thermostat. The lever that lifts the toast works off a simple pivot and is decoupled from the electrics. There is a switch that controls the number of active heating elements; saving energy when the toaster is running at less than full capacity. There’s not much that can go wrong here. And if it does, it’ll be repairable.

This is an indulgent purchase and hard to justify. It does the same job as toasters 1/10 the cost. I feel guilty for having spent so much on it, but this feeling should fade over the decades of service this lovely toaster will give.

Excellent toaster making perfect toast, large slots mean things like crumpets etc can be toasted with ease also. Very easy to clean with the slide out tray at the bottom. I have family members who have bought this toaster and it has lasted over 20 years so definitely worth the money!!!

Bought this to replace our 6th toaster (in 50’s). This is not a cheap toaster but it has good build quality, feels heavy and well put together. Part of the reason to purchase was parts are available and its straight forward to repair. Toasts evenly on both sides and takes a Warbuton slice.

    Made in England! Hurrah!
British product, classic styling. One of the few toasters on the market that toasts the whole slice (most have slots that are too shallow for modern loaves). Unfortunately, the “bagel” one sided toasting is only available on the 4+ slot version which was not made clear in the marketing blurb so I was a little disappointed to discover my 2 slot version couldn’t do this. I love the knob mechanism for raising the slices – you can do this to check progress, too – no toast pinging out on to the floor for the dog to snaffle!

I am duly pleased with the Dualit Toaster but can not give a detailed review due to the toaster being relatively new. Time will tell and hopefully it will last as long as my old toaster which was 18 years old and still working, unfortunately it was a bit tacky looking otherwise I would have kept it.

    Excellent.
A lovely sturdy, traditional British built toaster. Back to the old style of toasting which is a very controllable and efficient piece of kit once you get used to the different way of using it. I use the sandwich cages with it all the time even for toast only, as it appears to toast more evenly and make removal far more easily and avoids burning your fingers on the hot toast. Overall very pleased with my purchase in spite of the high price and would recommend it. I did have reservations initially about it not being a “pop up” but after using it for a while, I far prefer the controllability of this toaster and there is the added benefit of having replaceable parts. I have purchased many toasters over the years and am hoping this will last for many years to come.

Had it for a couple of months now so feel it’s ok to review. I love it, it’s heavier and chunkier than the Chinese made toaster and definitely made to last (will probably see me out) One question is why does the dial for temperature go so high? Anything past 2.5 will find your toast cremated. Another thing to keep in mind the second slices of toast will toast faster than the first because the toaster is now up to speed and not warming up. That said I love the standard of toasting it achieves and if you are not quite ready it’s nice to know you leave it in the toaster to keep it warm.

I love the vintage look, functionality and quality of this product. Its so easy to use and the defrost function works so well if toasting bread straight out of freezer, once defrosted and toasted its just like toasted fresh bread.

Toasts perfectly, even Sourdough bread from local baker which isn’t always sliced that thinly. Some of the reviews said that it didn’t toast well however this is not my experience. Each time perfect toasting.

I love the mechanical way the dial is a timer, not a fan of digital things and so this sturdy little toaster which has been made in the UK and has a guarantee is made to last.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersFinally a toaster that can be repaired
Got fed up with throwing toasters away when the spring mechanism goes.
Tried to get the last one repaired, but the bloke in the shop almost laughed at me.
He suggested buying a Dualit, because if anything goes wrong with it he CAN repair it.
So, three Murphy Richards toasters to the recycling centre in just over 2 years, I took the plunge and splashed out on this.
    It’s great!
Heavy and well made. Easy to use with no twiddly bits.
It has a one slice or two slice setting – so that is saving me money straight off.
The lifting bar (it doesn’t ‘pop’ up) let’s you lift the toast to check how it’s doing, so you can take it out when it is perfect for you. The timer is – wait for it – clockwork!
I usually set mine to level 2.
It stops cooking when the level timer stops.
It’s easier to use than to write about it.
I have seen these things in hotels before and always wondered what made them so special, and now I know.
Apparently I am now trendy it seems!
All I know is, I get perfect toast, and I will be taking this one to the repair shop if it breaks down, and not to the recycling centre.

This is my second Dualit toaster. The first I had for many years and I rashly gave it away to our daughter. I’m delighted to have a new one and it’s as fantastic as the last one. It’s also great to have a product that is made by a British company. I cannot recommend these toasters highly enough. A week after my Dualit toaster was delivered, I am wondering how I lived without it!

My main purchase influences were recommendations from friends and my desire to be more environmentally friendly in not buying throw away small electricals.

My main reason for writing this review is because this thing toasts so evenly and nicely I cannot believe I have lived forty odd years without one.

I know that this toaster seems shockingly expensive but the reliability and stonking performance are well worth the purchase price. I even realised when I got it out of the packet that my great aunt had one and that had been working ever morning for over fifty years.

This is truly a fantastic toaster, had I bought one 35 years ago when I moved out of home Inwould have saved over 200 quid in all the broken toasters I threw away.

Warehouse deal, saving 100, so excellent price, however, a little more damage than was described. Crumb tray is bent & the left handle missing making clean up a a tad fiddly. That said, when you account for the saving, this can be fixed & doesn’t affect the actual toaster s despite this I have still given 5 as this is the best toaster ever for a large household. Practice your preferred timings first as this toasts incredibly quick. As with all dualit products this will last for years.

My ex husband got custody of my last Dualit toaster that was still going strong ( and probably still is) after years. AS I remember we only had to replace an element once. In the 10 years we have been apart I have got through 3 toasters ,all ended up in the tip as they couldn’t be repaired . So I think the high price is justifiable given that the element and timer are replaceable if they fail. The operation of these toasters takes a bit of getting used to but it means you can make sure you get the toast exactly how you like it!

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersA brilliantly engineered, British-made design classic. Worth every penny.
I suppose the main question for anyone considering this toaster is “does it justify the price?”. In my view, it absolutely does.

First of all, it makes cracking toast. I can’t stand dry, crunchy toast, which seemed to be an unfortunate speciality for some of my old toasters. This one, in contrast, gets me a nice golden slice without taking all the moisture out. And so far it’s dealt admirably with bread rolls and odd-shaped bits of ciabatta, too.

As you might expect for something intended for commercial kitchens, the build quality is very high. There’s no doubting that the Dualit Classic is built to last and to be easily repaired. Obviously that extends its lifespan well beyond that of a typical toaster, but it also scores some environmental brownie points too. It’s nice knowing my shiny new toaster won’t be landfill in two years’ time. It’s also hand made in Britain; something I’m very happy to support.

Some people feel having to manually eject the toast is an unjustifiable failure for such a costly toaster. It’s deliberate. The idea is your toast stays warm until you’re ready to grab it, and it really does work.

Last, but not least, it’s an design classic on par with Eames chairs, Kitchenaid stand mixers, Apple iMacs, and so on. Not everyone has the luxury of gazing lovingly at an iconic, internationally recognised example of 20th Century industrial design while waiting for their morning toas

Really lovely and well made toaster, but the slots are far too small for our needs (so had to be returned). Too bad they don’t make this exact same one with larger slots (especially given that so many types of breads nowadays are larger than the old fashioned standard loaf size).

These toasters are expensive, but so is a Rolls Royce compared to a normal car. It is very well made, but of course the reason you buy it is to make toast and it does that incredibly well. Unlike most other toasters, it evenly toasts the bread and is also consistent. When you hear people say “they don’t make things like they used to”, in Dualit’s case they actually do and for good reason. Nothing lasts forever, but the ability to buy parts at a reasonable price means it will last generations.

    The Great British Toaste
It is a classic Dualit 2 slot toaster and works very well. It is not an automatic pop up toaster, but controlled by a mechanical timer. It takes a few goes to get the timer just right for how you like your toast, for me just over 2 on the dial works and you can raise the toast to check with the lever on the front at any time to see how it is going. The great advantage is that this toaster will not have to go to landfill like my last 3 pop up toasters. It is very well made and robust, you can buy replacement elements and timer for this machine or return to Dualit to repair. I look forward to many decades of great toast!

    Great, but.....
he last Dualit we had for 20 years. This has exactly the same problem in that it doesnt brown both sides evenly!
Thought they would have sorted it by now, but, heh, we are sort of used to its little quirks after 20 years!
Same great quality, just wish they would get it to work reliably all the time…….

A solid (literally) and reliable device. It has some heating elements and a mechanical run-back timer, plus a switch that turns on one or both elements. There is so very little to go wrong. This is m second Dualit toaster. I purchased my first over 15 years ago. That’s how long they last. In fact the first one is still working but the mechanical timer is starting to get a bit worn out. I could have purchased a replacement unit and swapped it over, but I figured that after this amount of time the elements were probably getting ready to be changed. I could have also changed these, since spares are available. But the cost of new elements and timer was more than a new unit, and so it was just less hassle to purchase a new one. I don’t resent that one little bit. After 15 years and still working…..

Looks great, real sturdy bit of kit – which I love – only thing that lets this down slightly is if you put bread that is slightly thicker than the norm then it get’s a bit charcoaled – unless anyone knows how to get round this? but yes stunning looking and will probably go on for ever…

Excellent bit of kit. Been eying this up for a few years and eventually bought one. I wish I’d have done it sooner. Excellent build quality, no fuss or gimmicks.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersSurprising controversy about a relatively simple device
I can only speak as I find. After four years daily use there is a bit of darkening around the top, but otherwise this item is looking fine and still working well without the problems that some users have encountered. I like its “non pop-up” nature, one less thing that can malfunction.
I must assume that assembly is a bit erratic, but that I got a good one. The only attention this has needed has been emptying the crumb tray, and even that is easier than on many models.
*Added roughly 3 years later on* The darkening round the top has continued, it is now more noticable but the toaster itself is still in perfect working order, and daily use. I don’t care how it looks anyway, just as long as it works.

Recently replaced this after 20 years of excellent service from my previous one. If you want a toaster that lasts for 20 years, spend a bit more and buy one of these. You will also be cool, simply by having this stainless steel beauty.

    Stylish and toast well.
I thought these toasters might be over rated but they not only looks cool they perform really well. The trick when toasting two rounds is to reduced the second round by one power setting as the toaster is already warmed up.

    HoT StUfF!
I love it!!!!! Am so pleased with it, it was on my wish list for over a year and it toasts just how I like my toast. I bought the sandwich toaster that slides into the slot at the same time and have had no problems with width of sandwich being toasted (unlike other reviewers). It looks smart on the work surface and I put up with its large size in my tiny kitchen as its beauty is greater than the recognition of its size!

    Good toaste
Lovely solid toaster, looks beautiful and toasts quite well. Nice and easy crumb removal tray and manual lever to lift toast in and out. I’m not sure it’s worth the very high price though, it has an annoyingly noisy timer and doesn’t take bread that is cut too thick. I bought it for looks and a quality brand and it delivers both for me, it seems a sturdy and well made toaster.

    Very good toaste
This Dualit toaster is as simple and as good as possible. For me, not having a mechanism to pop up the toast is a plus. No mechanism to malfunction after one year!

The heating elements provide the ideal and uniform temperature to get an optimal toast. I particularly like the toasted sandwichs. The only drawback is the slot width (28 mm) that should be somewhat wider for sandwichs.

Cleaning is delicate but very simple and the covered heating element (Dualit says is a patented tecnology) makes them much less susceptible to damage that on any other toaster, and hope they last longer!

Price is high!.Yes, but results are also high! Better value then many lower cost toasters.

    An excellent toaste
I was looking for a good reliable toaster and chose the Dualit. Not the cheapest on the market but probably the best. It produces very good toast with the ability to vary the “brown-ness” of the toast. Once the timer has been mastered the kind of toast preferred can easily be repeated.
