Wanted to buy British but unfortunately this is not a le creuset griddle plate, the coating was gone after first use and now rusty!
Very disappointed.
Thought my previous review was a bit harsh as I have managed to clean and re-coat the plate.
Although pre-oiled, to make it non-stick, I found I had to build up a coating by smearing a small amount of cooking oil all over it, heating it up until it just started to smoke, letting it get cold and repeating several times. I now just use a thin flexible decorators filling knife to get any burnt food of it and kitchen paper. If you scour it the coating will come of and you’ll have to build it up again.
I had been looking for a griddle plate because I wanted to be able to chargrill food and to also cut down on using too much oil. I decided on the Emba griddle plate as it was the correct size to fit over two burners on my gas hob and looked like it was good quality, plus is manufactured in the UK which I was pleased to see.
I can confirm that it is an extremely well made and heavy piece of cast iron and, if it’s cleaned, seasoned and maintained properly should last a lifetime. I already had a griddle pan but it is too small for when I’m cooking for the whole family so I was happy to discover that I could fit four steaks on it at once and they all seared and cooked very well. Obviously you have to leave it for about 7 or 8 minutes to reach the correct temperature. I also cooked some vegetables on it.
I used a scraper to clean off some bits that got stuck to it, allowed it to cool a bit and then used the wire scourer and hot water in the sink and dried it with kitchen roll. It was easy to clean and within a few minutes is ready to be used again.
I would recommend this griddle plate.
