Amazing Sound!
Bought my guitar second hand so the sound quality wasn’t the best, but I put these strings on and it sounds just like new! The sound is bright and vibrant and the best part is that it didn’t break the bank 🙂
Good strings.
They are a good set of strings, easy to set up and are of good thickness for smaller and thinner fingers.
I had to re-order another packet because the A string snapped when I was setting them up.
Too thin for me.
To thin for my liking. My les paul prefers the regular slinky.
Top quality
Arrived on time although package was dumped in my driveway in the rain with no notification from the delivery driver.
As for the product..string size and brand are purely individual taste. Personally I like ernie ball strings. Very good feel & quality
Excellent for down tuning
I use these (Mammoth slinky) on my Dean V, which has a 24.75″ scale length. Easy maintains good tension all the way down to B standard, I’ve had it in drop A as well. Sounds chunky and makes the shorter scale length not even a problem. I play the most in C standard and that’s probably a sweet spot for these. For death metal fans, these are the ones.
Good quality. Good price
Good quality sound. Great value. Everything you would expect from ernie ball products.
Great strings!
I really like Ernie Ball strings, they do lose their twang and brightness relatively quick though, about 2 to 3 weeks of playing , which is a pity. Overall they do last me and I’ve not had any issues with high e string unwinding at eyeloop side.
Excellent strings
Bought as a replacement set for my Squier strat after 6 months using original ones. Very good strings, sound brighter. Good value. Wanted to buy some more expensive strings from another manufacturer but went with these instead and do not regret. Might try 10’s next time
Superlight tens ! Perfec
Superlight tens perfect for my 335 , casino, my Stratocaster & les Paul . And at a great price delivered immediately . brillia
Everything you need
Hybrid Slinky strings are my go to and have been for years. Traditionally buying from the local music shop, I’ve purchased on Amazon due to the lockdown. No difference in quality at all so would thoroughly recommend.
My go to
Using the EBs on all my electric guitars now, definitely my go to strings. I’m no expert and haven’t done any scientific comparisons, but I’ve tried a few others and like the feel and sound of these. I don’t feel the need to change them too often and they do t break on me. I like that they now offer half sizes and loads of combinations for those picky people, like me.
great strings
purchased these to replace some old broken strings on my guitar, they work well.
can’t say much more, as I am still learning guitar, but from what I can tell they work well.
The only string choice for me
I’ve been playing for 15 years and I have tried many string brands. Ernie Ball keeps me happy. They last, rarely break when tuning and sound great most of all…
Packing is great, the sealed individual packs really helps. Other brands dont have this.
What more could you ask for?
Ordinary quality strings honestly.
Consider these as an alternative to fender strings .theyre good. but not special …….haven’t came across them YET!
Excellent set of strings
Great strings, wanted to downtune my ibanez so thought I’d get some mammoth slinkys I’ll tell you what drop a sounds awesome and still plenty of tension in the strings, would recommend
Beefy perfect for C standard
I’m using the Beefy set for an Ibanez RG tuned to C standard and they are amazing. The tension is comparable to standard tuning, with little flop but still retains that low growl you’d expect from a lower tuning.
Great strings
Always use Ernie Ball strings as they are great value for good quality strings. These are great for down tuning and running a heavier tone but nonetheless you can still tune to standard and they’ll ring nicely just not as plinky as a thinner guage.
Great stuff
Using this on an open D guitar, it is fantastic! Durability is also great as I do use it with a Maestro Vibrola, so loads of open and down and stretch/shrink, been amazing so far!!
Good value, quality strings
Good price and a fast delivery by eller ‘The Music Saver’.
Used EB Regular Slinky for a long time now, good tone and last well. I noticed in another review about rust spots, I’ve had this before, contacted EB customer service and they sent 5 free sets 🙂
Their just the best!
I have used EB’s for 30 years, and I love them.
I use Regular Slinkys on my LP and Super Slinkys on my Fenders.
Their just the best strings , the bending is effortless, the tone is great .. their the best.
The Bes
EB’s have been my go-to strings for 25 years now. They are excellent quality and in my opinion light years better than other brands.
The bes
I’ve played Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings for about 25 years and they’re the only brand I’ll put on my ‘good’ guitars. They last well, don’t break easily and you get a great tone from them. And for this price for a pack of 3 you can’t go wrong.
Djenting it up in Drop C# and Dadgad down to C#
Decent strings for anyone looking to tune lower then D. For me theses are great on a 25.5 scale in Drop C# or lower. I personally use them mostly with Drop C# and C# G# C# F# G# C# (Dadgad half a step down) I wouldn’t go any lower then a B Tuning with these but that’s just because I prefer a very high tension.
I’d actually still prefer a heavier gauge just for my Low C#. Perhaps a 64 or 65. But I have to deal with the 62’s that come in this pack which is Just a minor personal preference with Tension.
I think most people don’t like alot of tension on their strings so maybe you wouldn’t have that issue.
C# is my sweet spot tuning for these bad bois.
I’m sure if you use these on a baritone scale you could tune alot lower. For a Les Paul these could be handy for tunings from D through to C.
The go-to strings
The quality of these strings is immeasurable, and combined with the excellent value for money, make these a go to purchase.
I use these strings typically for standard and D tuning and they last very well.
Great strings
Had these on my guitar for a while now and sound as good as when I put them on.
No breaks no rust no problems.
Lovely.
Ernie balls are the best. Simple as. I put these on an old les Paul I had and they sound beautiful. Much more rich and full than the standard slinky but you will notice the extra tension if you’re not drop tuning.
Great for thinner sounding single pick ups.
Top quality strings but a little boomier than Daddarios. Use Ernie Balls on my Strat and Mustang to bring out more low end. Too boomy for my Tele Deluxe with Humbuckers though so I use EXLs on that one.
Strings
I have been using ernie ball strings like everyone forever they are great and play really well. I have just bought a new gibson which these will be going straight on. If you need strong these are the ones you need.
Pretty good, it's a personal choice, super slinky
Everything is subjective, there is no ‘best’ when it comes to something entirely based upon personal preference. However, I’ve just swapped out the original D’addario 10s that came with my guitar for these super slinky 9s and they feel amazing. They dont come with colour coded ball ends like some others but that’s not a big deal. They are bright and they feel great to play. Not much else to say, they are a great improvement for me over my previous strings
Good but always make sure you get two packets
My son used these to restring his electric guitar for the first time. Sadly, the E/9 string in first packet snapped whilst he was trying to tune it, but it all went ok with the second string from a new set. So probably a dud string.
Good, affordable string choice. Industry standard
I’m not particularly sore on strings but I always keep a stock of these as back ups. Admittedly they’re not my primary choice and I love the Paradigm strings but they are a good option to throw on in a bind and are cheap in comparison. They last a fair amount of time but depending on how much you play you’ll want to swap them after a while because they do (like all strings) get a bit dull sounding. The foil packaging always ensures they come out the pack in pristine condition though unlike some other brands.
Superior sound
That new strings sound, you can’t beat it. I always come back to these strings because of the warmth and clarity they give my semi-acoustic guitar, and that sound doesn’t just fade after a few plays it has longevity. I wouldn’t restring with anything else nowadays.
Versatile, good quality, recommended!
Excellent strings! I just switched from skinny top heavy bottom and I am very pleased to give hybrids a go for the first time. So smooth, a real pleasure to play. Sound is warm and bright, and they’re really versatile. Having a lot of fun playing with them. Highly recommend!
Ernie Balls are the standard for strings, aren’t they.
A very good string that doesn’t suck at anything but doesn’t excell at anything either.
I’ve never had a problem with string breakage with these and they hold their tuning great on a decent guitar.
The tone is good when new and persists for a couple of months for me.
They aren’t a bright sounding string but they aren’t muddy either, they sit in the middle ground nicely which is exactly what some people want as they want a flat EQ from the strings as their base to build their tone on.
Rusting of these strings entirely depends on the level of oils in your skin and if you clean them after use. I never experience rust throughout the life of these strings but my teenage son can get them rusting in around a month
Arrived in good time
Arrived in good time and well packaged. I am looking forward to using these thinner strings, not sure if they are going to last as long as my plastic coated elixier strings
Goog value
I like using 9 gauge strings for ease of bending but find the heavier bottom end gives a thicker tone
And the price is right you can get cheaper strings but some of then break because they are too brittle
Being probably the popular brand of strings around, I have used Ernie Ball strings countless times. Mostly using 10-46, but also many of the other sets of strings (which Ernie Ball has a great and rather extensive range of). The quality has always remained consistent between individual packs of strings, and between the different sets I have used.
Importantly, the packaging of the strings is well done. When opening a new pack, the strings have felt satisfyingly factory fresh each time, which is expected and never a let-down. Though the ball-ends of the strings are not colour coded as to their gauge, instead they are individually packed in the paper sleeves and conveniently labelled, so it’s impossible to mix them up if you’re a newbie and not too experienced at changing strings.
As for tone, it’s unlikely you’ll distinguish any major differences between other brands when playing from your amp in a room, but after putting your tone under a microscope so to speak in the studio you may pick up some individual qualities. However, the feel between string brands is more distinguishable than the tone with normal strings around this price.
When it comes to longevity, this is when things go a bit downhill from my experience using these strings. How long the strings last in terms of maintaining brightness, and also how long you can play them before one breaks is shorter than other brands I have used. For example, D’Addario, Dunlop, and Rotosound have all been more reliable for me personally. I feel I have broken the most amount of strings when using Ernie Ball, whereas using some others rarely result in breakages. The loss in brightness is sometimes quite noticeable. All of this only applies to the regular nickel wound strings (mostly using 10-46), but I’d still use them if I had to.
I think Ernie Ball have better ranges of strings to offer than the regular nickel wound strings. I’d recommend the Paradigm sets over these, but of course they’re more expensive. Overall, these are not bad strings by any means, and there are unique sets available to suit everyone, which I still want to try more of. But from my experience so far, I think there are more durable sets of strings available, especially around this price range.
Great Strings.
Used to buy D’Adderio strings. Thought I would try Slinky’s on recommendation. Great sound – Stay brighter for longer. Sound from Gibson hollow-body much improved. I will probably stick with these in the future.
Does what it says in the tin.
Nit used slinkies for a few years, only went with them as they were the best value for a named brand.
Does what it says on the tin but took an absolute age to bed in on a floyd rose equipt guitar.
The only guitar strings to use, apparently!
4 stars for longevity but I suspect the guitarist is particularly hard on the strings so it may be a little unfair. However, the only strings he actually likes so I’ll be buying shares in the company soon!
Fine for the purpose
Have used this product to restring for a while. Personally found them reliable and like the gauge. Decent value compared to individual stings sets. The high E broke when restringing, which is rare for me, and probably more related to my string changing technique on this occassion than the quality…
For years, I have been switching between Rotosound DarkZone (10-60) and Ernie Ball Power Slinky (11-48) but finally I have found the set that is exactly what I have been looking for.
As someone who prefers music to be more on the heavy metal side, I usually like to detune my guitars in a Drop C or Drop B tuning. For me, the DarkZones really shine in a Drop B purely because of those heavier bottom strings but getting them in to Drop C just has way too much tension. Power Slinky were my go to choice for Drop C but with the top strings also being slightly heavier, I wasn’t enjoying string bends as much.
These Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings have given a solution to my problems and I absolutely love them!
As with all Ernie Ball sets, the quality is also amazing and they deliver a stunning, bright tone, especially through my EMG-JH pickups! Ernie Ball truly hit the nail on the head with this set.
You know what you are getting!
These are the standard! When it comes to quality and value for money there is really no question. These will always be my go to guitar strings! They are reliable and you always know that you are getting strings that aren’t going to let you down! Are there better strings out there? Yes of course, there will be strings that last longer or sound brighter but not for the value you get from these! I will always come back to these!
Still the best for me.
These are my choice for all my electrics. They don’t sound as brittle as some and retain tone for a good length of time. I can get a coupe of gigs out of these.
Great feel, very durable
As with most strings they’ll last for about 150-200 hours of playing before you can really tell that they need replaced. After trying a few different strings, these are still my favourite.
Very good for the price and you can get better price buying more than se
Used these strings for over 40 years good value for money when I put them on my stratocaster guitar it sounds great. 10s give a fuller sound and they sound good on a telecaster guita
Beefy Slinky Workout Review
Great set of strings, defintely a bigger sound compared with my usual choice of power slinkys. Only problem is being a heavier gauge they put quite abit tension on the neck of my 30+ year old Sheraton (unfortuately the trussrod won’t adjust so I’m not forcing it!).
Really enhances the bottom-end though…..
My perfect string gauge
So i have tried 9s 10s and now these on my strat and these are my hands down favorite gauge i feel it gives a more consistent feel in tension across the fretboard and sound better for the stuff i like to play.
Sounds ok to me
These strings are fine but I have tried several makes of strings, and I find there is little or no difference between them. all the ones I have tried have been good.
Beefier than 9’s, but not as tight as 10’s
Bought these for my strat as I thought the 9’s on it were a bit too slack. At first I was sceptical that there would be a need for a gauge between 9&10, but these feel great. I’ve tried diaddario’s, rotosounds and others, but always come back to Ernie ball’s as they stay bright for longer and just nicer than the rest.
A good set of strings
I haven’t played my guitar much in a long while so decided to get new strings, these are great, easy to fit and don’t stretch much after initial tuning.
music to my ears
“you should never leava gutar tuned it stretches strings so they wont hold tune” , this is true with most strings. but i have used ernie ball since 90s. I tuned my strat and gibson copy with EB 10 guages and put them on the wall for 2 years, this august took them dowm light retune and they are holding tune. will never use another brand. this was chepest way to buy, will be buying again, 6 sets will last years. delivery was promp
My Favourite Guitar Strings
I have been playing the guitar for 25 years or so, and have tried many many sets of strings.
Whatever I try, I always come back to Ernie Ball Slinkys!
The just have a such a great tone and last long enough compared to their cost to make them a really affordable, great sounding set of strings.
Highly recommended!
Good for riffs and power chords
One gauge up from ‘regular’ slinky strings and better for it. Fitted to a Japanese Stratocaster (see photo) with no nut slotting issues.
Good for riffing and heavier chord progressions.
You will want to adjust the string action and intonation if your current strings are a lighter gauge…
Excelle
You can’t go wrong with these. They sound good with both active and passive pickups, Last for ages and provided you quickly wipe them down after playing they take a long time to discolour and corrode. These are the only electric guitar strings I buy.
Long lasting. Clear sounding
These are always very good strings. I buy them for my Strat but also, I buy them to put the middle 4 strings on my electric Ukulele.
Clean sounds all through with nice clear highs and mellow mids
These strings last a long time for me. I don’t get damp hands when playing so maybe that why.
great strings
I have used these for over 30 years – now I have arthritis in my hands I can still play them. They don’t last that long and they are expensive but they are worth it.
The best all-rounder strings out there
Ernie Ball strings always hit the nail on the head for me. I find that D’Addarios are quite stiff and hard to bend, but Ernie Balls manage to strike a balance between strength and flexibility. I’m not a string buff, but Regular Slinky fit all my needs and last really well too – and at 5.50 a pack, who can complain?
Lovely 10 to 52 gauge se
I have been using these over a year now and i am really pleased with this set. The top strings are easy to bend yet the lower strings sound really fulfilling. I tried these with semitone lower tuning and they sound perfect. I would say they maintain their quality at least for 40 hours of playing. I would not go back to regular gauge sets after these.
Excelle
Really enjoying these strings. You get the usual slinky plain strings, but with the slightly thicker wound strings of the power slinky set, so a great combination that just works. The ease of playing of the smaller gauge plain strings, with the slightly thicker tone of the higher gauge wound strings. Excelle
Striking the right cord.
I have used many different makes of strings but always come back to Ernie Ball they never let me down and it’s no surprise they are the strings of choice for many musicians.
Great guitar strings
Ernie Ball produces the finest guitar strings. very durable and very precise manufacturing. With proper care these strings maintain the high level of durability and quality for much longer than other brands.
Brilliant Strings as Usual
I got into playing the guitar because most of the music I listen to is guitar-driven. I love all of the different sounds and genres this instrument can fall into, and like many people I fell in love with certain artists and bands over others. I’ve been using Ernie Ball strings since I started guitar because most of those artists also use these strings and have their names on the back of the packet, and at around 5 a pack I knew these strings would be good enough for me if they are good enough for them. Even after years of playing, the only time I’ve ever broken a string has been my own fault tuning too fast or a problem with my guitar’s own hardware.
Ernie Ball strings feel great, are fairly priced, easy to find almost anywhere, and it is just as easy to order single strings or create custom sets. I haven’t ever felt the need to change to a different string brand because of this, and honestly I don’t know if I ever will.
I am not sponsered by or related to Ernie Ball in any way, but these strings have given me nothing but reasons to believe in them throughout the years, and are definitely a good choice if you feel overwhelmed by the amount of choice on the market. They’re no hassle, plain and simple strings that sound good and feel good, and do everything they are meant to perfectly.
(Just make sure you buy the right gauge!)
Remarkable
Great strings which were very good quality and fit my Yamaha guitar perfectly it had all six strings and is much cheaper than getting someone else to change them. Each string comes in an individual bag which is very handy but the bags are made of paper. Overall it is a great product.
Quality strings
Great strings in my opinion, but as a guitarist/musician you know it all comes down to preference with our equipment, strings, picks… You name it. You basically just have to try this kind of stuff out for yourself. Ernie Ball are great quality though and have a wide variety of strings.
good standard guitar strings
Can’t go wrong with these, and they are an excellent value. I have used this type of string for years and they are always very good to play, with the right balance of string gauge for most purposes.
Excellent strings
Having tried many makes over the years I have settled on Ernie Ball, most of my guitars have 10’s but I recently bought a Telecaster that was already strung with 9’s. These did not disappoint, slinky, plenty of bend on the lighter strings and deliver the classic Tele twang on the bass strings.
The best I've had.
These strings have served me well for over 20 years. I’m a hard hitter and haven’t broken a string for years. Playing rock and blues and I maintain a great tone for a good 5 or 6 gigs (2 hour sets) before changing. At home, they stay on for months!
Great service and quick delivery too.
The King of Strings
Only when you buy good strings, do you realise how poor bad strings are.
Had my last guitar restrung at a guitar shop but the strings they used were horrible and 2 snapped within a week (nothing to do with my excessive bending I’m sure…) so have returned to Ernie and am now unsure why I ever went away! Great strings and stupidly cheap.
If you haven’t strung a guitar yourself before you should try. It’s so easy and cost effective.
My new go to strings for Rocksmith 2014
Got these to replace my regular slinky. Used on a guitar for playing Rocksmith 2014. Usual excellent quality, and with a lot more ring. No problem with the game missing a note that I’ve played now. These will be my standard strings now. Easy to tune and have kept tuned after stretching when fitting them.
Big strings for big hands
As a manual farm worker I struggled with the stock strings on my Vintage V52, could be 10s?? Anyway my big shovel like hands couldn’t even feel the top end strings and getting a clear note without bending was near impossible for me. These strings (Not even slinky) have transformed my guitar into something I can play and enjoy playing. Standard E tuning I can still get big bends when needed and I like the slightly darker(?) meatier sound. The G string is perhaps a little thicker than I would like but I’m not a great player anyway. To clarify my comments, I am a total novice player and have been for the last 25 years! Mostly played acoustic and can give no details on longevity.
Try them on your archtop and/or resonator guitar.
I have a Framus archtop guitar with a Schaller floating pickup that doesn’t have individually adjustable pole pieces.
Some folks have a problem with a loud B string. With this set-up, I don’t. These are the right strings.
My Gretsch reso (standard tuning, played like a regular guitar) usually has PB 13-56 strings on it but since there was a set of these Not Evens lying around I gave them a try. Result! These nickel-plated electric guitar strings work a treat on the acoustic reso. With fingerpicks it’s a big, clear sound and a pleasure to play.
I swapped the standard strings on my Epiphone les paul special for a set of Ernie Ball regular slinkys.
I was amazed at the difference in sound quality. Highly recommended.
My new favorite se
Great set of strings that are both quick and easy to fit. They have a really nice sound to them too. Compared to the strings I took off these just have a cleaner nicer sound. I’ll be buying them again when I need more. Very happy and I’ve got a new favorite set.
Quality set of guitar strings great price fast delivery
These were bought to go onto my cigar box guitar that I built and they work well tuned in nicely only used 3 Of them obviously but feel nice when playing see how they last these were ones that were recommended to me so I gave them a try the packet states that there used by a lot of famous guitarists so I guess they speak for themselves delivery was fast as usual from amazon and well packaged good price at the time of writing this review dec 17.
No need to get lost in the supermarket with these.
These were a doddle to fit, they were a lighter gauge than I was expecting, but they’re still perfect for my use, which is little more than beginner noodling! Lighter than the strings I replaced them with, I would be happy to buy these again, great for string bends and a nice clean sound. I wouldn’t call them raucous, but that’s probably more due to the strat copy I’ve strapped them to!
... strings on certain chord forms/ progressions and you don't like the thickness of 10's
If you currently play 9 gauge strings and you find that you are inadvertently bending the bass strings on certain chord forms/ progressions and you don’t like the thickness of 10’s, because the high strings are harder to bend on standard EADGBE tuning, then try these strings. They work for me.
I’ve been playing with EB slinky string since I started gigging in 1981. I have been through phases of using Super Slinkys and Hybrid Slinkys, but I always come back to Regular Slinkys. They produce a good strong tone, but still allow for string bending. I play almost exclusively in standard tuning. Drop D enthusiasts may prefer the added bass beef of the Hybrids.
I have also used many other brands, but for whatever reason, EBs are still my go to, string of choice. I use the, on my Strat, my Tele and my Les Paul, all with good results.
I am also pleased that they do not break on me.
Always use fresh strings when you set up the guitar and change them regularly. Old strings will always sound dead and muddy, whichever make you choose.
Great strings, had an old pack and was changing ...
Great strings, had an old pack and was changing strings after a clean down of the neck and one snapped so I ordered a pack of Ernie ball super slinky strings and had no bother restringing the guitar with these. Takes a while to condition the strings as when new on and doing bends you’ll hear the tension in the strings just drop sometimes. After you’ve conditioned them properly though (Like you should do with all new guitar strings) they have a really good tone on my Ibanez and hold their tune pretty well. Can’t really see a bad point about this pack of strings, would recommend.
Good feel and sound, but will not last long.
As far as 10 gauge strings go – these are very good. If you want a warm rich tone from your strings but still want the manoeuvrability and bend action, choose these! I tend to go for these if I’m playing something jazzy/bluesy or songs with bite that require a fatty tone. I think they tick all the boxes if you are looking for something that is versatile and can give a rich full tone.
I big downside is that they do not have a long life and will start to rust after a few sessions.
Quality strings at low prices
I have been using Ernie Ball strings for well over 10 years and they have never let me down, they are a low price so you can buy and change your strings whenever you feel. I like to have a fresh set of strings every couple of weeks if i am performing but they will hold up for a long time and take a real beating. Brilliant sound and never a issue. Always buy Ernie Ball.
For many years I have used Ernie Ball Super Slinky (which are great), but as my playing has improved I decided to step up to 10s to start building a bit more finger strength and improving my bending technique. These (Skinny Top Heavy Bottom) are great, easy to play, don’t stretch too much after first stringing so are good on my Floyd rose guitar. Heavy bottom gives a really nice thick tone for metal licks whilst the 10s on top are still flexible enough for playing high up on the frets and bend easily.
I like Ernie Ball strings as they are not as ‘tinny’ (bright?) sounding as D’addario (which I have also tried), I like their slightly less treble’y tone, each to his own with stings and plenty of people will disagree with me, but finding your own guitar tone is a personal thing, so play what you like the sound of, not what some review says you should like!! For a fiver these are reasonably priced and so if you don’t like them then you haven’t wasted a fortune.
I got some Beefy Slinky strings at the same time, but I find them much harder work (especially on the fixed bridge guitar I put them on) still playable and a nice tone, but you know after a few minutes practice that that you are using heavier strings. These strings on the other hand I can comfortably play for an hour or so without aching fingers!!
I noticed a comment about string snapping, I have always used Ernie Ball (for around 27 years) and apart from when I was first starting out I have rarely snapped a string through playing, I found it was due to that old chestnut of not recognising tone and turning the tuning pegs the wrong way, or turning the wrong tuning peg and even then it was only usually the high ‘E’ so I used to pick up a spare, at my local music shop (who sold them individually from a wooden tray in the days before the internet). That said I don’t have a heavy picking arm, I find the volume knob on the amp is better for ‘going loud’ than beating seven bells out of the strings, so I can’t vouch for these strings for those who pick really heavy, perhaps try the new RPS line if you are having real problems, or change your picking technique!!
If you are trying these for the first time be wary
Hey all. I’ll start by saying these are good strings BUT, if you’re used to you’re strings being quite “slinky” then these are not for you.
I usually play Ernie Ball Rock n’ roll classics which I find have a fantastic amount of bend to them but not too much to jepordise you’re tuning. I wanted to beef out my tone a bit as I’m the only guitarist in my band but i didn’t want to lose tonality in the solos, these seem like a perfect match right? Well these do what they say BUT if like me you use alot of tremelo on your D string then don’t go for these, the top (thickiest strings), E, A, D in this pack come extremely tight and you get little to none flexibility out of them. The G, B and the E do have great flexibility like most slinky packs.
All I’m saying is, be aware that if, like me you use a lot of “thicker string vibrato” (as i like to call it) you will have to sacrifice it in order to use these strings.
However, if you are used to using tight strings then these are for you. You get to keep that nice tightness for all the rythem sections and then with these strings you get some nice flexibility when you break into a solo.
Simply put, the top E, A, D (thickest) are quite tight.
4 stars because they have absolutely nothing wrong with them, great shipping time and great price they just weren’t for me!
Ernie Ball Super Slinky – iconic guitar strings.
I have always loved Ernie Balls strings, I have been using them since I was a teenager back in the olden days of the seventies. They were fantastic then and they still are. I use them on my Fender Stratocaster and they last for ages before needing a change. I know different people rate different strings and maybe it’s just my fingers have got used to Ernie Ball strings but they feel right, they sound right, I can bend them like Beckham, they don’t break easily and they are just the king of guitar strings too me!
Cheap | Heavy Gauge | Heavy Sound
I have used many different guitar strings in my time as a guitarist. I have used strings made by Fender, Ernie Ball, D’Addario and Elixir to name a few.
These were purchased for my USA Stratocaster to play around in Drop C tuning.
They are very thick and are a very hard play; I love them!
You get a full, heavy tone with the sort of “drone” you want with palm muted sections while still getting vibrancy from the high end too.
Overall, they are a cheap, fun set of strings to try out!
Note: you will most likely need to adjust your guitar to accommodate the much thicker strings to avoid fret buzz.

Very slick strings that provide great tone and bend well while remaining in tune. Have used SUPER SLINKYs for over 10 years now on a bunch of guitars (Strat, Tele, Peavy -Type, and Shecter Blackjack) and they give the right level of brightness and ‘twang’ that I like for my sound. They’re very smooth strings that never shred or rip up your fingers, unlike some of the ticker gauges – and you can slide up and down the neck on these with no problems.
They’re also very reliable strings that hold their pitch well when playing & bending, and I can only ever remember having a handful of snaps (usually at the bridge). Also very easy to handle when re-stringing. Only every playing in E and Drop D tunings, and these are great for both.
Went for the Cobalt Super Slinkys one time, but the minor tone difference wasn’t worth paying twice the price for, so have reverted back to these.
This review is of Ernie Ball’s ‘Super Slinky’ strings for electric guitar. The gauges are: 9, 11, 16, 24, 32, 42. The G (gauge 16) is single-strand nickel-plated steel, like the B and top E, so light and bendable.
I play a Fender Strat for which these ‘Super Slinky’ strings are near-perfect: they’re easy to fit, the top strings bend well without much left-hand effort and they’re great for playing power chords. A good tip is to use a light, bendy plectrum, which is pretty much essential for the top E (gauge 9).
One caution: these strings are very stretchy and take a few hours to ‘bed in’ during which they go out of tune easily, especially the top two, so best not to fit them immediately prior to a performance. Also if you’re an aggressive player you may occasionally snap one of the top three, so keep spares.
Excellent strings, good for all styles of rock and metal playing
These are excellent strings, always my choice for a guitar tuned to Concert Pitch. Always try to use the same gauge strings when changing them, it’s always good to experiment with different gauges for different tunings, but bear in mind the tension on the neck will differ with different gauges and means a truss rod adjustment will be required each time you change gauges. That said, I’m a Metal player and, for Concert Pitch tunings, these are perfect. I use them with Fast Fret, and these strings will retain their bright sound and feel smooth and fast for a good few months, depending on how often you play, of course. Definitely recommended.
The best strings in my opinio
I use these strings for standard E tuning on my electric guitar. For me they are the perfect gauge for this tuning as they are not so thin that they are easily bent/pressed put of tune and not so thick that they are hard to do bends with.
The strings themselves are very bright sounding which I like. Even when they’re quite old they still sound decent enough for home practice.
I’ve been using these for about a decade now and no other make of strings really feels or sounds as good to me.
Light on the top and regular on the bottom.
Great strings. Light on the top and regular on the bottom. I’d not tried these before and usually string my Tele with Regular Slinkys. I bought a Michael Kelly Tele (great guitar) and it came strung with these or the equivalent. Thought I’d try them on my Fender Tele. I like it. Great service from Dangleberry too.
What's not to love?
Brilliant guitar strings. Sound great on my Start for every style of music you can think of. Terrific for funky rhythm playing and they seem to last a long time. Just a quick wipe down with a chammy leather before you put the guitar away, and they are ready for the next time. I’ve tried them on jazz semi’s and they seem to give you that woody tone without crippling your fingers as some medium gauge strings do. Oh and they are superb for Open G.
A good choice.
My personal preference has always been D’Addario, but I decided to give these a try. I went back to my old strings more out of loyalty I think, but the Slinky’s didn’t disappoint. There’s not a lot between the two. I reckon if you like one, you’ll like the other. The Slinky’s are welcome in my kit bag any time.
Strings are what they used to be.
Strings are what separate a piece of wood, metal and plastic from a (sometimes) musical instrument. Ernie Ball have been making strings for as long as I can remember, and I have been using them since the early 1970s so have got through a few packets in my time. Over that time I have noted that there are two things which set Ernie Balls apart; one is their consistent quality; and the other is their clear, bright tone. I have tried other makes of string but for my Stratocasters, it will always be these.
Never re-strung a guitar before [SG]
I have an Epiphone G400 [SG style], which I haven’t re-strung in the four years since purchasing. The original strings were size 10 and pretty tough.
I brought these because I wanted to bend strings easily and use a lighter left hand. From this point of view, they are a success. Easy to install (even for a first-timer) and very smooth (almost too smooth) to the touch. My playing improved pretty much instantly.
On the down-side, they appear to come out of tune quite easily, although this could be related to my beginners re-stringing technique. They also have a very buzzy sound on the guitar (when un-amped) compared to my previous strings – but I can imagine that lighter, more bendy strings would move more than the tough ba’stads I had on previously
I’ve been a committed Super Slinky user .009-.042’s, out of habit really, for years.
On a whim, I decided to give these a go. Ten minutes of practice and your fingers hardly notice the difference, but blimey! Your ears do.
You may need to tweak your truss rod a tiny amount, depending on how your guitar is currently set up. I also had to adjust the intonation a minuscule amount (only on the bottom E and G strings, and I mean minuscule, I could’ve left it). But, my guitar, an SG, now sounds and plays like it’s wearing the strings that were made for it.
I could wax on about how tonally great they are, and how if you want a drop D or C there’s no better choice, but strings are all about you
For a fiver, grab a set, give them a go. I was knocked out.
Great value for money.
Great price, speedy delivery. I’ve used Ernie Ball strings for years. Reliable and long lasting as long as you look after them by cleaning after use. I use them on all my guitars electric and acoustic, Fender, Gibson and Ibanez. You get that rich ‘new string sound’ as on all strings, but I find with regular cleaning that sound last and lasts. Everyone will have their own preferences and these are mine, I’ve tried other makes, but these give me what I want, dependable with a great sound at a competitive price especially this pack of three.
Jaguar enhanceme
I’ve got a load of guitars, and for some reason I couldn’t figure my Fender Jaguar was falling to the back of the crowd. It didn’t have the bite of the tele, the power of the Les Paul, or the resonance of the ES335. I rarely played it
luckily, I snapped a string, and realised I hadn’t restrung it in some time. I wondered what afficianado players recommended for the jaguar, and saw 11s, and in turn a few people who played my sort of stuff recommended Power Slinkys
I’d always just taken the guitar store’s recommended strings before, but ordered online for a change, and am delighted I did. Apart from being cheaper, and saving me a trip, these strings make me feel like I have a new guitar ahead of the thin weedy sound I had before. There’s a lot of guts in there, but they’re still light enough for all the expressive blues bends I play
to summarise – delighted, and buying more for my telecaste
It' Grea
I’ve been playing the guitar for 7-8 years and all that time I’ve been using extra light strings.
I finally decided to upgrade to thicker strings because I felt it in my playing and I saw a video online that said that beginners should start off with light strings then move up as they get more experienced.
It was great using it, I loved the feel and the sound, I just had to get a little use to it.
One thing though is if you experiment a lot with different tuning and frequently detune your strings it’ll will snap.
Thats what happened to me.
It seems the thicker the strings, the less tolerance it has for frequent detuning.
Other that that these string are great and I would definitely recommend them to others
Good strings
Great quality as always from ernie ball. I’ve never tried these strings before, i typically tend to use the ernie ball hybrid slinkies. The power slinkies are good, and sound great, mostly when playing on a clean amp setting or with a mild overdrive. With lots of distortion (i use a Boss DS-1) you can get a wicked stoner-rock sound that’s more pronounced with these strings, they do pack a punch. I guess that’s expected, thicker strings, darker, deeper tones. The one thing i’m not too keen on is that they are (obviously) harder to bend on the g/b strings, being thicker than the standard gauge.
I personally prefer playing with hybrid slinkies, as they give a combination of deeper tones on the bass strings, while also making it easier to bend the g/b/e strings, which are thinner than standard. I’m in no rush to restring my guitar yet, and will probably keep these power slinkies on it for a while. 5/5
Great Strings
I absolutely love these string i use them on all my guitars and always have done though i have tried other such as elixirs and even the new cobalt Ernie balls but non match up to these beauts, bright high end nice deep low end but still got clarity silky to the touch and slinky enough to make bending string a blast. i recommend anyone who has not tried them to give em a go as the are simply the bes
