This is an awesome piece of kit. Its a bit fiddly to put together and the plungers in the sliders are a bit dubious but it works great and cuts a good right angle, once you’ve set it up correctly. The notches to help select an angle are not always in the right place, use an square and test cut before use.

Being an absolute beginner in the field of wood working I have found this saw be an absolute boon leading me to make all types of cuts with incredible accuracy. The laser guide is superb and providing you measure accurately the end result is spot on. Mitre cuts are simple and the slide mechanism is smooth and stable. I am now undertaking projects I never would have dreamed of tackling before. They say half the art good of IY is having the correct tools, well this saw certainly fits the bill for me.
I would add though, that I found the assemble slightly challenging with confusing instructions. However this is probably because this was the first time I’d seen a saw like this let alone used one but I got there in the end with the videos on the web site helping. Any one with a bit of experience would likely have no problem putting it together.
Anyway, thoroughly recommended and I’m now off to make another tray!!

This for a basic cross cut saw it works well, accuracy is a bit off.

All round though for what you pay Vs what you get and the versatility of this machine it’s pretty impressive have made easily over 200 cuts with it so far and no signs of anything breaking yet.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is my second evolution. My first i obtained second hand and had been well used. And its still going strong 4 years later, and it’s used daily,
But not wanting to risk it breaking down on me on a job I bought a brand new one, along with a evolution saw bench, should have got one sooner. Great value

Ive used this for everything around the home, from skirting to resin worktops. It just keeps going!!!

The only minor thing I would say is that the angle selection is 100% accurate.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI used to have a radial arm saw but this is better and a tenth of the price.. The supplied blade is certainly useful and performs as it should – I used it to cut thick aluminium angle and it performed perfectly. I’ve also bought a couple of compatable saw blades from Saxon and they’re (probably) better if you’re going to do a lot of wood cutting (as I do). But the versatile blade provided is still excellent and probably fine for most people.
    I’d recommend this.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersHi. I’m a very poor diyer. I bought this and learned how to use it because I’m sick of paying out money to have others do jobs I now know I can do myself and often do them better. The saw is really quite straight forward to use. Full instructions come with it and I found a video on utube which helped a lot. Plenty of practice on scrap wood before tackling jobs at hand.
I’ve done floorboards, facings and fairly lightweight dado rail. All cuts were clean and accurate. I did cut some plastic trunking which splintered but quickly learned to ease the pressure when doing plastics. Haven’t used it on metal yet. Overall as a rank amateur I’m very impressed with this machine. It’s done everything I’ve asked of it and done it well. It’s saved me a fortune.
Update 3/10/22.cutting old hardwood skirting full of hidden pins and nails. Some can’t be seen but the nails will split the wood if removed. The TCT blade sliced through all of it without issue. Boards now trimmed and refitted seamlessly. I bought a stand for it, not such a rubbish DIYer now

I don’t know how I managed without this for so long. It’s a brilliant tool. Well made, easy to put together, accurate cut, excellent blade.
The down side, the build instructions are poor, I went by the picture on the box! And the dust catcher bag is useless. Other than that, brilliant!

Arrived quickly, in original box in good condition. Easy to put together but looks like a bugger to set blade to a correct 90 degree..only time will tell. Dust collection orifice perfect size for hoover pipe but seems like it’s too high to catch anything meaningful again only time will tell.
On the whole it looks like13 kgs of kit that as a diyer I can use effortlessly for the price I paid.

This saw not only can slide across wider pieces of wood, but can also mitre and bevel wood. For greater accuracy it has a built in laser. Useful clamps are provided which increases the safety when cutting. The product comes with various ‘bits’ to put together, but this was easy with the clear instructions.
    Cuts very well.

Excellent piece of kit. Spend a little time in calibrating the angle indicators and make a note of the laser mark as it wasn’t precisely on the cutting line.
If you get the track guide you will need to spend a little time squaring up the ends as they were not manufactured very well. Once done the tracks are wonderful.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’m actually really pleased I bought this chop saw, it eats through wood brilliantly. So far it’s been excellent and accurate. The laser is a wee bit off, but it’s easy enough to use a clamp as a stop or just offer the blade to the wood without it spinning.
It comes in a big box (we all like a big box being delivered, right?) and is easy to put together. The legs are great too, a must have.
All in all, very happy, in fact I’d happily buy more from this brand.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersFor the money this is a great piece of kit. I built a bar from metal box section and used this saw for all the cutting and mitering, with no problems at all.

Worth noting the laser is slightly off the exact cutting point, but I have found that to be the case on all the saws I’ve used at this price.

Mine was missing a screw, but I emailed Evolution and one arrived shortly after in the post.

For home/DIY use it’s great. If you’re cutting metal, wear eye protection and use the workpiece holders.

I’m still on my first blade after loads of cuts of mild steel box section, it’s not quite as crisp as when it was new but a bench grinder sorts any burr.

The ‘Evolution Sliding Mitre Saw’ (Model R210SMS-300+) is an incredibly versatile sliding mitre saw for multi-material use.

First up, this is a big, heavy and meaty piece of equipment. As such, you need enough storage space to be able to house this big old lump of equipment, in a place that doesn’t get damp or anything, otherwise the blades and other parts can be subject to rust etc.

First up, for an avid DIY enthusiast, I have to say this is a wonderfully easy-to-use piece of kit. Set up is a doddle. Familiarising yourself with the mitre saw and its capabilities doesn’t take long at all. It’s actually very self-explanatory — although it’s obviously recommended that you read through the enclosed instruction manual carefully, as it’s still a heavy-duty piece of kit which is obviously dangerous is misused or used incorrectly.

The cutting action of the mitre saw is superb. It’s very sturdy, very precise, and can cut with power as well as this precision. It’s also very quick to adjust, so jobs take a fraction of the time they would otherwise have taken with a manual mitre saw box or hand sawing etc.

I should point out that even though this is a pretty hefty piece of kit, it’s still designed for DIY use and not trade. It’s solidly constructed (you can tell that in seconds of seeing and using it). But it probably can’t stand up to hours and hours of day-to-day repeated use that trade would require.

For what I need it for — general DIY and renovating my new house — this is absolutely ideal. It’s so simple and effective to use, that jobs are now much quicker, simpler and probably tidier. The only issue I have is storage of the thing. I have it in a tightly sealed tarpaulin in the garage, which will hopefully continue to protect it from the elements.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI was looking for a sliding saw that could handle deeper cuts for making some shelves at home. With its 300mm cut, this saw delivers on that.

After a small amount of adjustment of the laser it seems to be almost perfectly aligned, and can now make cuts quickly and accurately.

There is a very very small amount of play at the full extension, but then this isn’t a Festool at 10x the price, and for what I needed it for I don’t see that play ever causing an issue.

This is a really good product. I used it mainly for cutting laminate flooring which it did quickly and easily. It was easy to set up and use even for someone like me with little experience of using power tools. It is a little on the heavy side if like me you need to move it each time you need to use it because I don’t have enough space to leave it set up in my shed. So far I haven’t found anything negative.

I like the robust build and attention to detail. It was accurate straight from the box and I didn’t need to alter it for squareness. The laser is useful as a guide but I will still go by my own marked lines. The supplied blade cuts smoothly in hardwood leaving a good finished edge. I already owned the Evolution stand so it fitted straight on. I can’t find fault to be honest and I am more than pleased with my saw.

The skil saw that I have been using for several years didn’t have an angled cut and this is a big upgrade. It has a very controlled movement despite the mechanism to change the cutting tilt – a factor I had worried about. The dust extraction is also better than anything I’ve used before at the domestic diy-er level.

I’ve used it to create a number of shelving projects recently and it’s given me a new confidence in my skills to get nicely angled joints in a variety of woods and boards.

The only negative so far is the space it takes up; if you don’t have a dedicated workshop you might find you can manage with one of the smaller models without the angled cut mechanism.

Although Evolution doesn’t have the recognition of some of the obvious brands out there, I think it is punching above its weight in terms of quality for the price. Impressed.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our Usersquite impressed with this tool. easy enough to put together and everything seems to be solidly made. have so far used it to cut varying thicknesses of wood and mdf, 2mm aluminium tubing and 8mm aluminium plate, and has performed admirably. degree markings (horizontal and vertical) pretty much spot on. nice smooth action and very little flex in joints or slider. do have to cut aluminium slowly, and make sure well clamped down. two small things – does tend to spit chippings everywhere, especially nice hot aluminium flakes, and clamps would be more useful if had two vertical clamps, and they were a bit longer. apart from that, looking forward to using this saw more. recommended.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI have a couple of Evolution saws, this being the smaller and cheaper of the two and used exclusively on steel.

The reason for that is that my other larger saw is set up accurately to cut wood and inevitably cutting steel will reduce the life of the blade and probably make tearout happen quicker.

    So steel it is, then.

And by gum, it works much, much better than I expected. I’ve traditionally used abrasive disc chop saws which of course work well but have some disadvantages. They make a lot of mess. Really. The combination of worn abrasive, binder and the cut metal which, is by necessity far more prevalent due to the thicker cut line required of an abrasive disc means a lot of much and dust. The speed of cut is much faster as well. At least on box section metal. And it’s overall cooler. Less heat into the metal and less super hot particles flying around.

The thing that surprised me was just how good this is at cutting a lot of steel. I expected after a couple of cuts the small cross section carbide tipped disc to have worn to the point of being useless. Nope. I’ve made about 40 cuts so far and it’s still almost perfect. So much so that I reckon that it will be cheaper to run than an abrasive cut off machine because the blade seems to last so well. Happy days.

It is well made. Yup. decent weight behind it and a smooth powerful motor that does not seem to get bogged down.

All the materials it is made of appear to be high quality. The plastic is the glass impregnated PA6 stuff which is far more rigid than the normal cheap materials. Nice alloy base and it’s quite accurate.

A small amount of assembly is needed which, amounts to sliding the motor section onto the sliding rails which click into place. Two thick plastic extension wings can be fitted as well using allen screws. You will need an allen key for this which I didn’t see supplied.

There is a small laser indication which, I never use. I’ve never found one on any chop saw to be accurate and I never even think of using one as a means to get a cut.

There isn’t a soft start on this unlike my larger one used on wood. That being said there isn’t a huge bang as it starts and the inrush current seems fine. The smaller diameter cutting disc is probably the reason.

Overall a great bit of kit and highly recommended. Just as good if not better than the big name brand saws of similar price.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersShould have bit the bullet and bought one of these years ago, made light work of the decking I have just built. Easy to assemble, simple to use. I also bought the Evolution saw stand too, shop around for that, various DIY outlets have them and there is always one has it on special offer.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI’ve used for maybe 150 cuts now. It’s great on floor or on workbench. It cuts through anything and is perfect if you use old word with nails in.

The accuracy is 2mm out from the red laser point, which I will attempt to adjust. But after that it’s the same every time.

    So easy to use a

I am becoming a real fan of this makers saws, this mitre saw has coped with anything I’ve used it on, including some non wood items.

It was pretty easy to set up, and has a decent length power lead, so I soon had it up and ready to go, it came at a very handy time as we were making the structure for a new roof for my main shed, I’m no carpenter but I cut the wood which my mate had marked, angles etc were easily and accurately cut.

It isn’t terribly noisy and doesn’t vibrate like one I had at one time

It coped with quite a few large sizes of wood too, again with ease

    Five stars from me

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAs a DIY enthusiast (I’m not a trader or professional in any official manner) I jumped at the chance the review this saw. I’ve previously owned a mitre saw but without the sliding mechanism, which was bought at Homebase many years ago — that was some unknown brand, but I must admit I’d also not heard of Evolution before getting this.
Anyway, I’d clearly say this is for home use. The setup was a little laborious, but it’s been perfect once complete, and although the instruction were a little unclear it wasn’t actually that hard to figure out what to do. It’s proven, for me, to be a good all-rounder, cutting through the various wooden beams and occasional metal pipe at the angle required. The sliding mechanism feels smooth, as does the rotation, both secure without any sign of wobble. The blade that comes with the gear hasn’t failed me and the motor packs enough power; I’m not sure why I’d need anything more powerful.
I would also recommend buying the stand that suits this — the Evolution Mitre Saw Stand with Extension — which really is affordable (much like the saw): http://amzn.eu/d/01s8a2O
The stand is lightweight but very sturdy when erected, and very compact when collapsed – perfect for sliding away when not required.

My friend and I have used this and its handheld friend to build a playhouse for his daughter from old pallets and being able to roughly denail without worrying about small bits left behind has been a good send.

The saw has all the usual features: light, guide, angles, etc. and the bonus of a blade that seems very robust and cuts cleanly. I’ll be buying the tile blade too soon.

    Absolutely excellent.

I know very little about mitre saws, but my son does.
I am told that this saw is very popular with professional builders and is stocked by well know builders merchants – so that is a real plus to know.
My other son is building his own garage at the moment so he has reviewed this for me.
Apparently needs a bit of patience setting it up, but too to long.
He finds it invaluable as he is able to cut a variety of materials which saves him so much time.
He thinks it is powerful enough for his needs and especially handy it has a dust extraction bag. With a 3 metre lead it is easy to move positions without the need for extension leads.
    Great value for money

A brilliant mitre saw that can cope with what ever you want to throw at it.
This is very good at what it does, you get clean cuts where you want them without issue.
This version offers a longer compound cut so expands the posssibilities. I have used this to cut railway sleepers, I was able to cut a channel in the sleeper to make garden furniture that was less than a quarter of the price that the garden centre was asking for the same thing.
I have the evolution stand designed for this and would recommend making the investment as this gives me a lot more flexibility as to where i can use the saw.

It is easy to set up, easy to use and gives great results. The safety considerations are good, but don’t get in the way of the work.
It is robust, well made and built to last.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThis, Evolutions R210 (SMS-300+) is a very good, solidly built mitre saw. It looks the business with its orange extremities, black body with metal gate and deck.

It takes a bit of construction to put together, but not more than twenty minutes once the Hex key has been found! – It’s on the back-left side in a hole if you still haven’t found yours.

The side extenders are not handed so don’t waste time trying to work out why the manual says they are, everything goes together easily with the blade fitting on last.

I had a fiddle with the electrical lead routing with the back ‘hook’ until I realised the little black plastic piece is a cable clip, and the cable goes through the hook, but everything else was fine.

The saw itself folds down to an easy carry size. The clamp at the back of the carriage slide doubles up as a carry handle and pairs with the saw handle to make convenient grips for moving the saw about.
The blade slides easily onto its mount and the supplied hex key tightens it up on its anti-clockwise thread.
The lockdown for the saw head works nicely as does the depth gauge for trench cutting, there is also a lock for 33.9 degrees at the extreme rear along with set angle stops on the front scale for 22.5 and 31.6 degrees (Angles for Crown coving corners). There are other set lock stops, in all there are 10: – 0, 15, 22.5, 31.6, and 45 degrees both ways.

Clamps are provided for work pieces and there is an innovative quick set arrangement on the long clamp where the top half of the holding barrel actually hinges away from the bottom half allowing the easy movement into or out from the work piece, it simply drops back onto its partner piece and then adjusted to tightness – and it works! This is really “keeping it simple” (KIS) at its best.

In use the saw is competent. it does sound a little raw when compared to my Makita and can’t quite compete in adjustments, but it certainly does its job accurately. This is helped along with the provision of a nice bright laser line with its conveniently placed switch. It also cost less than the Makita!

The supplied blade is capable of burr free and virtually cold cutting of plastics, copper, aluminium, mild steel and wood, so no worries for a bit of rough firewood cutting where the probability of hitting nails is high, although I wouldn’t recommend leaving the collection bag in situ when metal is the subject of the cutting blade, getting rid of the shards would be a problem. I attach a vacuum hose to mine for all jobs.

The debris collection could be better, sawdust and metal shards come off the blade at all angles and in most directions other than that required, this has cost one star and also means that safety glasses are a must, but I am happy to award four stars for the Evolutions R210 (SMS-300+)’s general competence in use.

A good, and well-made Mitre saw.

This works well for a variety of projects. It makes it easy to cut at a range of angles and depths. Its very manoeuvrable. Cons: dust extraction not good, and most irritating maintaining constant depth of cut, eg when repeatedly cutting into a joist to make a mortice, is not good. overall though a good tool, would happily get another one. Best getting widest blade and good power since you’ll always find a smaller compromise to be aggravating. Useful to get the stand for this for greater safety
