Better than an Echo Show but soon obsolete
Ok I have Alexa Shows 3 in the house only added this for WhatsApp Video calls, but now also using WebEx Meetings and Tidal videos.
Camera for meetings with tracking is amazing quality.
Pretty much replaces Alexa aside from limited Ring, Routine functions
All that said I hear Meta are discontinuing consumer portal in favour of business, so very concerned now is this device a dead duck.

It looks very smart, easy to use, has really good sound. It is very flexible to fit in with what the user wants to do. I have only had it 24 hours but it is part of my life already. It was really good to be able to have a video chat with my son and granddaughter this morning whilst I was working in the kitchen.
So really glad I decided to buy it and I would recommend it to anyone.

Being a Jehovah’s Witness we never missed a meeting or get together over zoom.Up to getting the portal I participated through my iPad or phone,now I can see and chat to everyone and see them clearly.I love it.

Bought this for my dad who can’t use whatApp on his phone. He is now able to make calls and keep in touch with family around the world. He can also join zoom meetings and surf the internet. Brilliant.

Fantastic camera, easy to setup and works great, bought for my 79yr old grandad for his Birthday and he has no problem operating it to make calls to the family. Highly recommended.

I had never heard of this – I chanced upon it. As I was about to become a Granddad and my daughter lives 50 miles away, I bought us one each. Absolutely brilliant ! We can have a meeting on our large TV’s, superb quality, nothing to hold (like a laptop or tablet in front of your face). It’s interactive and immediate. Quality is excellent and it has so much intelligence built in – it automatically zooms in and out to capture all the faces in the shot. If there’s one person and they move towards the camera, it zooms in. Honestly, it’s amazing technology for the price, fantastic value.

So good for using to call family and they can follow the grandkids around the room without you having to reposition your phone constantly. Easy to set up. Not a very long battery life but easy to charge. Lovely wide angle viewing and decent picture quality.

I needed to create an FB account, activate Messenger along with Spotify and Whats App. I needed to buy a phone as well to serve as a device that you could create these accounts on. This device was not easy to set up and should have been better as a standalone communication hub. Alexa does not work as expected and you have to use “hey portal” as a term to initiate instructions. The voice recognition does not operate well even when using clear UK English properly enunciated. It has successfully connected my dad with family in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Fiji and different parts of the UK via video call. Would suit a better level of tech knowledge to set up.

Chatting across cyberspace
Bought one for myself in UK and another for family in NZ. Easy to set up and link to smart TV, though didn’t work with older (10+ years) flat screen TV. Initial set up takes about 30 minutes, mainly due to software updates for both portal and controller. However, once your Messenger and WhatsApp contacts are uploaded, calling them is simple and can be done by voice commands. Quality of the picture is superb as is sound through TV speakers or soundbar, with excellent synchronisation. There is a minimal timelag, even over 12,000 miles, and it feels almost as if we are sitting in the same room. Caller can also use phone or tablet, which is necessary when away from home or wandering about, though video quality is likely to be diminished.
Great way to connect to remote parents
Works really well as intended. Some might say a tablet can do the same, but for ease of use for my 60plus yr old parents, they appreciate the simplicity. This is also a lot cheaper than an ipad!
The video calling works super well. Really clear images that are sharper and smoother when WhatsApp calling or using Facebook messenger compared to my mum’s old phone. Needless to say she likes the large screen vs her phone.
A really big plus of this go model is that you’re not tethered to a power cable. Plus I don’t get the terrible angles my mum would hold her phone at, now she can put the portal down and the wide angle camera and auto zooming sorts the view all out so we can focus on what’s going on.
A side benefit is fantastic speakers. My mum uses this for her youtube and treats it like her boombox in the garden or down the community centre!
Finally the picture album mode isn’t advertised much on the go, but it’s there and will share Facebook albums. Fantastic again for various members of our family to submit photos to that album and for my mum to get them automatically.
Slight downside was a slightly faffy set up, luckily my sister was there to help mum, but a large part of that was because mum’s abroad in a non Facebook supported country (HK). Great that Amazon delivered to HK direct and overall worked out cheaper! (Presumably something to do with tax)
All in all, very happy.

I have had doubts as to whether it would be good or not. Yet, as per usual I’m outstandingly surprised and the quality of the camera and the camera body. Sturdy, sits perfectly on top of the tv extremely easy to connect. I do advise to get a HIGH SPEED HDMI cable. better quality image and sound. the Microphone is amazing, it takes away surrounding noises and yet amplifies voices. My family is in the UK and I live in the Canary Islands. I wish I had bought it earlier on during the Pandemic. Recommended Buy 10/10

Liked it so much we bought several for family and friends
With the prospect of not being able to see family and friends over Christmas we bought this to make it easier to unwrap pressies and see a large screen. Liked it so much we bought several for all our close family and friends. Much better than talking on s small screen and no more heads being cut off! We have a 65 inch tv so its like those you are talking to are in the room with you. The follow feature is great as it means you can walk around and the camera will follow you.
Easy to set up if you know your passwords for facebook etc.
Easy to turn camera and mic off when not in use.

Keeping in touch
I bought this portal incase we had another lockdown and I could communicate with my son. However my dad has been diagnosed with cancer and we use it to make WhatsApp video calls so he can see us and we can see him, he lives 4 hours away from us. It’s been absolutely priceless for us as a family. Really worth every penny .

Facebook to portal
Excellent product which we have been toying over for a while. The price was very good, as it had been reduced to 59. It was easy to set up and works very well. It will make video calling very easy in the future, plus you can close off the lens and mute the microphone so that it is secured privately. It works well with WhatsApp, which is a major plus.

What a great gadget. Although we used Messenger to talk to each other on a daily basis, I was either talking to my mums feet or the top of her head. Now I get to see the whole if her and my sister. Mum is 83 years old and mastered it straight away (although a friend had to do the initial setting up for her). Great buy

Loved the interface, but was purchased to enable big screen viewing when calling other Alexa devises.
Purchaed on a whim as it was at a reduced price – didn’t research much but as it has Alexa built in thought we could call other Alexa devises, but you can’t – you have to use messanger, whatsapp or Zoom.
Only wanted it for calling Alexa to Porta so no good for us and returned.
