If you’ve been searching for a great nighttime light for running, “look” no further. I am sure if you have been researching you’ll be familiar with the one that I am referring which is a lot more expensive. On doing my research I stumbled on this particular product and saw all the glowing reviews so I bought it.

I’m amazed. This is simply the best light – waist or otherwise – I’ve used for running at night. I’ve used it in two races now and it has come through with top marks for me! I have tried Kogala, Petzl, and everything in between before finding this.

I purchased the flip belt as suggested and my one concern was that it might bounce or move about on my waist. It did not, not one bit. So check that. The light fits securely into the flip belt and it is super easy to slip on (well… unless your legs are already sore from running quite a few miles ;).

The light itself is incredible. SO bright and with a wide-angle that shows everything lurking on the trail – I’m talking rooty roots, “you’ll put your eye out” branches and rocks… not wild animals thankfully (haha) – so you can feel very confident. I ran solitary with this light and felt safe and that I could rely on it. I did have it on highest beam for three hours at least and it didn’t give any indication of fading out on me.

If you’re thinking about it, just order it – you will be very pleased with your purchase.

It’s been wintertime, but I’m about to get back out there and run, and I’m looking forward to using this once again. I used to just use a headlamp when I ran, but this is much nicer with the FlipBelt. It lights up the path really well and doesn’t shine in the eyes of other people that might be sharing the trails with you. I may even try to bring it hiking and camping with me as it will allow me to save my headlamp for things that require it. The only issue is it is a bit pricey for a rechargeable flashlight. I like that the charge point is shrouded to protect it from the elements as this is an issue on most of my rechargeable headlamps.

Very impressed with this light. I’ve always used head torches before and enjoyed neither the weight on my head nor the ‘bobbing’ nature as my head moves. But this light suffers from neither of these issues. You do genuinely forget you are wearing it; it’s amazing how something which feels heavy in the hand doesn’t even register when in the Flip Belt. The light produced is terrific, and makes me both stand out and much more able to see what is in front of me. I used to dislike the winter because the long dark night stopped me from running as much as I wanted. But this light means that I can easily run in the early hours or after dark – I have more hours in which to run.

I love this light – it gives me great visibility when I run early in the morning before the sun is up. It stays put in my flip belt, and is so much better than running with a light on my head or chest.

This light really works! I was skeptical before trying it, but I desperately needed something because I run on technical trails in thick fog in the early morning and light from a headlamp just reflects back into my eyes. This light has a very nice wide spread and and the lowest setting is bright enough to see the trail. The manuAl says the lowest setting is only 50 lumens But it seems way brighter than that. It is also very easy to adjust and it helps me see the contours of the trail. If I could improve it, I would get rid of the flashing setting which is just useless for trail running. I wear this with a headlamp but it would be bright enough to use alone (I like the headlamp for looking around into the bushes and surrounding area for safety sake).

This is my first experience on using a head lamp for night trail runs. The flip belt light does a way better job of highlighting obstacles and casting shadows. The light is powerful and illuminates the whole trail so it is easier to pick your path especially running fast downhill. I run a lot in the mountains and it is easy to adjust up and down for asending and desending. On a ten miler to the top of Mt. Rogers, I had the brightest setting on, and it lasted the whole way.

Like the headline says I was skeptical about a waist mounted running light. However now that I’ve started using it for my winter runs (either early morning = dark, or later evening = dark) it’s been a game changer. I used to run with a good Black Diamond rechargeable running headlamp which in itself is good but what I’ve found is that it’s difficult to see roots and other ground level obstructions. Having a waist mounted lamp really shows the roots and other obstructions like rocks etc. As far as the light moving when you run you do get a side to side oscillation as your abdomen moves from left to right whilst your head generally stays stable. However because of the wideness of the beam this does not compromise your visibility of the trail too much. You still get a consistent cone of light in front of you where you can see where things are.

I have yet to combine it with a headlamp as I found it’s sufficient on its own to use on my regular runs in the dark. The light is plenty bright enough in the region I’m running in and I would assume it would be better in an even darker environment. The light itself is quite bright and you definitely don’t want to look into it directly. It doesn’t seem to heat up either.

As far as charging there’s an end cap that half screws off and exposes the USB port. This endcap is sealed with a washer and on the opposite and there is another endcap with a washer and that can be unscrewed to remove the battery.

As far as durability I still have not got enough time on this light to know whether it will last the true test of time (and water/rain). The base plate is made of a rubber material which fits into your flip belt and then it has two zip tie style Circular mounts hold it to the rubber material. This allows you to rotate the lamp up or down as your desire to give you the right positioning on the trail. This works very well and the light doesn’t seem to rotate on its own.

All in all I’m very happy with it so far and only the true test of time will give me a better chance to give a more thorough review. I believe it’s good value for money but realistically should be a bit cheaper. Being a new idea I can understand it being a little bit more expensive.

I’ve only used this light once but so far it works great. It brighten ups the trails so well I could see everything in front of me with no problem. I could barely tell I was wearing the light around my waist it is super light and very comfortable.

Works great for running at night. It really lights up the ground while you’re running and allows you to see every little rock and change in terrain. Lasts a long time too, I used it on a 100 mile race and never needed to change the battery or recharge it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAs a trail, road runner, and hiker I have an array of gear to include headlamps and Kogalla RA light and just recently stumbled upon the flipbelts running light. I already owned the classic flipbelt, which I wear during pre-sunrise road runs, so this was a no-brainer purchase for several reasons

    1. While I have headlamps – I don’t always like to wear a hat running to keep a headlamp stable and in place.
    2. My Kogalla RA is my absolute favorite light, but I rather attach that to my hydration pack for long trail runs or mountains hikes in the dark due to the cord and power bank.

With all that said – I’m excited to use this light and know this will be a favorite too. Doesn’t feel heavy. And, I ran around th block and it felt comfortable. Worth the price and purchase.

I love this Flipbelt light! It slips snuggly into the Flipbelt and stays put when I run. Much nicer than a headlight (though not as easy to direct at specific objects). Easy to use. Easy to charge–once you find where to plug it in. Great light!

Been using light for few months. Always hesitate to purchase lights on-line as lumens advertised is almost always far from what is actually delivered. This product DELIVERS exactly what it states. Highest level is actually overkill for all but darkest, fastest most technical trail runs! Lower two levels are perfect for all normal road or trail night runs! Only warning is that there is annoying bounce if flipbelt isn’t very tight!. I usually used medium and had to purchase a small to make sure it was very tight to waist and minimized light bounce.

Great light to add in pouch of flipbelt. It is super bright and nice compliment to my headlamp. Good for walking dogs as well as it illuminates the dog very well.

Customer service is A++, I had an issue with the battery 6 months in and they sent me a new one, no questions asked.

I bough this as a gift for my husband who is an avid runner. Now that the days are shorter and it gets dark earlier it’s harder to find time to run. This is a great light – it’s very bright and makes it easy to see what’s in front of you. It works well with the flipbelt. It’s heavier than you’d expect it to be and it does get warm to the touch. I also think it’s a little overpriced for a light. But it does what it promises to do so I still give it 4 stars.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a finely designed and engineered product that will make for an excellent tool on my night runs where a light is absolutely needed, for example under tree canopies where there is not enough ambient light, moon light nor star-light to help illuminate the trail.

I prefer to trail run at night with no man made light at all, however on unfamiliar trails or under trees where a little help can make a huge difference with pace and safety, this light is the best.

This FlipLight is so much more effective compared to a typical runner’s headlamp.

With this light attached to my FlipBelt “elite” (sold separately), as I run at night I can still look up and see the horizon off in the distance and with that any critical activity that may affect me, I.E. other people or mountain bikers on the trails etc, not to mention being able to see the sky, the stars, and the moon. You can’t do that too easily wearing a typical headlamp.

The only downside (but worth it in my opinion) is that it is a little pricey, because you need to buy both a FlipBelt and then the separate FlipLight.

That being said, I love it.

Super bright! My son passed me while I was running with it at night and he said he could see me a long way away. It’s a great workout tool for runners who run when it’s dark out. This light is very durable and holds a charge very well.

I don’t leave reviews on stuff I buy…but this time is different. I hate buying things online, receiving them and being disappointed. Especially when it comes to gear. I live in the Pacific NW where it is often foggy throughout the fall/winter months and running at night with a headlamp presents some visual challenges. By bring the light source below your line of sight you don’t create a wall of white 10ft in front of you. So I thought I would give this a try.
It works. It works well. The Flip Belt (sold separately) is comfortable. The light angle is adjustable. The light sits inside a soft rubber mount bracket and angle is held by pressure and friction with the rubber mounting rings (have not tried in the rain yet). At 500 lumens (full power) it is bright enough. Yeah we would all like 1000+ but here we are at 500. It’s enough. I have been really impressed at how stable the light is. It doesn’t seem to bounce around and be distracting to your night vision. The light is a NON-adjustable wide flood. It is very easy to carry a second battery for back up power and is an easy change on the fly.
So far…not disappointed. $100 for the light seems a little steep. $75 would be better in my mind.

The flipbelt light is exactly what I needed. It provided good coverage in dark areas. Vehicles are able to notice me and provides enough safety measures in the dark. The light does not bounce and fits perfect in the belt. This was a awesome buy and is what I needed for those early morning dark runs.

Overall I like the light. It’s well built and durable. My negative concern is that the unit is rather heavy because the casing is metal. I think it could have been plastic instead and save the weight and cost. Also I saw some battery corroded residue on the inside of battery cap, makes me wonder if it has been used.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI run in the dark in the morning and my 5 mile loop is sometimes treacherous. Not because of terrain, but because of neglectful owners who leave their dog poop in the middle of the path. On more than one occasion since I got this got my FlipBelt Light, it’s saved my favorite running shoes from sure disaster! It took me a minute to figure out how to charge it, but now, besides my FlipBelt, it’s my favorite piece of equipment when I run. I used to look like a coal miner leaving my house with a LED head lamp perched on my forehead. I’m a sweater, too, so the band would get sweaty and I’d have breakouts on my forehead. AND I had to wear it upside down because rightside up caused a glare in my glasses. Now, not only is my light brighter than my headlamp, but I can adjust so I can see bunnies and coyotes on the trail long before I get to them AND when in the dreaded “poop zone” I can rotate it to see closer to my feet so that I don’t come home with battle smears on my runners. All around a very, very good investment.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs a late night runner, this is an absolute must have! Running at night, in South Florida, can be difficult on uneven sidewalks and pavement. This light made for Flipbelts, is very sturdy and helps tremendously. It has 4 different lighting levels; from low to bright, and blinking. And you can simply rotate the light in its holder to point it down for to see precisely where your feet are going to land. Or bring it up just a tad, and oncoming traffic will notice you easier as well. A little pricey, in my opinion. But it is appears to be a good, rechargeable, and durable light for running or any activities at dusk or night time. Additionally, this is a heads-up; I found that if you run or walk with the light level on high for even a few minutes, the entire light and structure gets hot!! Not sure if its a defect, but it probably is not. You have to figure, a brighter light burns hotter. I do not feel the heat at lower levels or when blinking.

I primarily use this light to inline skate at night. I was apprehensive buying a light on amazon as I’ve bought other LED lights that were subpar. This light however is solid. The various light modes allow you to extend the battery life. Recharging is easy. The flip belt accessory you have to purchase to hold the light is comfortable. It is able to be adjusted up for further visibility or down towards the ground if you don’t want to blind everyone in front of you. Worth the investment over the cheap alternatives. Do yourself a favor and buy this light setup so you can avoid frustration from the competition.

The flip belt light is easy to use; rechargeable; durable. The flexible piece which holds the light and fits into a flip belt is easy to use and I don’t notice it. I was able to use this light with a knock off waist belt with ease but decided to get the original Flipbelt to minimize bouncing (knock off belt was too flimsy/elastic). I recently used it for a technical trail race that went into the dark for several hours and it was fantastic! Able to see good detail on the trail for a nice window ahead of and around me… far superior to a headlamp.
My only complaint is that you have to cycle through each setting to turn it off or to get to a previous setting. It’s a minor annoyance but not enough to take away from how good the light is overall

  33. Anonymous says:

Sits comfortably at your waist and lights up where you need without adjusting your running position. Headlights are uncomfortable and make you look down, flashlight or glove lights make your arms swing oddly. Definitely recommend for any nighttime running, camping, or other outdoor activities.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is one of those possessions that just makes me happy. I was apprehensive about spending so much on a light for running at night, but it’s been one of the best purchases I’ve made. I run on a lot of gnarly sidewalks and dirt paths daily. The fact that the light is mounted lower makes shadows pop out, making it easier for my eyes to perceive inconsistencies in footing ahead. Cars seen my easily. Used it daily for 3+ months now and it’s still going strong. No complains honestly.

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersI bought this light to train for and race in the Leadville 100 and it worked great. The flipbelt has become my go-to running accessory as it holds my phone and keys better than any of my other belts. The ability to add the light is super convenient. For Leadville, I needed the light for 7-8 hours and it worked like a champ. I used it in the low setting much of the time and bumped it up to high when the terrain got technical.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve had the flipBelt for several years and it’s been comfortable. Now I needed a better light to run and wanted something better than a headlamp or hand lights. A friend had a different but similar light but the price was too much for me so I searched for alternatives. I was pleased to see the FlipBelt made one that was 500 lumens and a decent price. The light is bright and very wide making it easy to see wide and far ahead. And again, the belt is comfortable and the light does not bounce inside the belt. I highly recommend it even if just out walking.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAlthough I’ve tried a number of running lights over the years, I never felt that headlamps were that comfortable or that effective at brightening up early-morning runs. The FlipBelt running light shines at waist level, which is ideal when you want to see dark pavement or a technical trail. I was briefly concerned about the size, but it fits so snugly into my FlipBelt (and maybe even better in my FlipBelt crops) and never bounces. As an extra bonus, it is incredibly bright but charges with a USB, so I don’t have to buy a ton of expensive batteries every few weeks. Seems to provide me with about ~8 hours of bright illumination before it needs to be recharged, and that process is relatively quick.

This is an excellent running light! Mounts very securely on a FlipBelt on top of my phone. Does not bounce when running. Very bright and has an excellent consistent circular light pattern. Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI like this much better than a headlamp and it works well with the FlipBelt – as it should. The light is more stable and you get a better field of vision. The battery has held up through several longer night runs and the light intensity variety is well chosen, although I personally can’t imagine ever using the strobe light.
