Very nice guitar case for the price. Fit my telecaster nicely with no movement.
I have a 1998 American Deluxe Stratocaster recently purchased. No Case. I went through many listings trying to decide if I go inexpensive or high quality. This Gator Airline case is great. Very well made. I don’t gig anymore at least for now but I wanted something that protects my Strat in any situation so finally opted for this Gator case. I am very please with the fit (Perfect), and quality of this case. Glad I decided to spend 3X the price of a cheap case that was said to have chemical smells! This case is a keeper!
This is a perfect hard case for a 6 string guitar. No doubt about it, but I had to return it since it doesn’t fit my 12 string guitar.
At first I was a little disappointed, I thought I might have to cut some foam to hold it more snugly. But my Strat fits perfectly, you can’t wiggle it at all (see pics). 2 sides of the body meet the plush padding tightly, the neck is well supported for about 12″ or more. And there’s a neck bolster on the top that presses down on the neck to hold it snug when closed. I may pack a few small clothing items or foam in the curved area of the body, just because I’m paranoid about flying with my guitars, and I can fit a few extra things in there.
There are some beefier cases offering more padding, but they’re also much bigger, at least 2X or more the price, and too big to attempt to carry on. Yes, it would be nice if the padding on the edges where the body touches was a bit wider, but it’s still about 3/4″ thick, and it’s dense foam, I’d call it semi rigid. I think it will be fine. I always try to carry on if they’ll let me, so this is just right for my needs.
Haven’t flown with it yet, taking it on a flight soon, if I have a problem I’ll update my review. So if there’s no update, it worked great.
Its a very nice looking product should serve nicely when the guitar i ordered to put in it gets here lol
This is a very nice solid case. It fits my Jazz bass and my Ibanez ATK 300. Very solid, the latches are good quality. And the is lots of room inside for accessories. I just might buy another. Good value for those that want to protect their investment in quality instruments.
Livraison rapide, colis bien emball.
Valise apparemment trs solide.
I travel by Air around the Globe. Rest assured your Electric Guitar is safe and wont get damaged even if you check it in your Check In baggage.
This is a great guitar case with a really good, not particularly light solid feel. The catches feel solid and reliable. The only problem with the case is that the headstock end of the case has to be manipulated to close as the top and bottom of the case don’t line naturally so you have to wrestle with it and make sure it’s closed properly. Other then that it’s a great case should lest for years.
This case is extremely sturdy and protected the guitar very well! Would buy it again!
Excellent product! very happy with this purchase. You will not be disappointed.
I purchased the Gator GTSA-GTRELEC case because I needed quality storage for my PRS Custom 24 guitar that would also provide durable protection in a travel environment. This case not only looks great but comes at what I feel is a fair price for the protection my guitar receives. I have owned more than one these cases in the past and they do the job well.
The Gator brand has never let me down although the factory packaging is not too impressive. The fit is as advertised and the seller did a great job getting it shipped in a timely manner.
This case fits my PRS SE Custom 24 like a glove and just per chance someone may want to know my Rickenbacker 620 lays in like it was made for it. Of course it goes without saying but all my Stratocasters and Telecasters fit this case like they were meant to be there.
I could find no misalignment in the hinges or latches and I do love the TSA latches. I found no chemical fumes from adhesive and there are no faults in the adequately plush and well padded lining.
I can’t find a down side to this case?
I would be more likely to trust this case than some others to withstand a rigorous touring schedule and maybe some light tossing around by roadies. This case weighed in at 12-1/4 pounds and is obviously quite durable.
For the price I don’t believe you will find a better travel case for your guitar!
I have a TSA approved Gator case for my Fender Tele, which is very nice. It’s got great protection for the guitar, and the outside, being made of molded plastic, seems to hold up better than the typical vinyl covered wooden case. And the TSA locks are fantastic. Finally, a lock worthy of a $1000 guitar.
I bought this case for my 1982 Ibanez Roadstar bass, because the original case didn’t provide much protection, and I wanted better. Unfortunately, it didn’t fit. The length and width were fine, but the case wouldn’t close. Seems that this case, for whatever reason, is made only for fairly thin basses. Which doesn’t quite make sense to me. All of my basses are thicker than my guitars. I ended up returning this case and buying the non-TSA Gator case, which fit perfectly.
By the way, I contacted Gator about this, and they weren’t much help. That’s why I gave that only 2 stars.
In summary, this is a great case, and good value for the money. Just make sure your bass fits.
It has been 3 years. The case is still solid. It protected the guitar of a school teenager traveling long distances on a bus and van, loading and unloading by school teenagers.
This is a good cost effective travel guitar case. I previously owned the same Gator product and used it while traveling on airlines. The case protects the guitar during travel, is light to carry, and the TSA lock is convenient. I bought this new case because I sold my other guitar with the older Gator case and needed another travel Gator guitar case for my new guitar. Although more durable flight cases are now on the market, this Gator is the most cost effective. Of course, I won’t use this Gator case for any guitar valued over $2,500.
Bought this case to ship a guitar from SanDiego to Baltimore. Packed guitar, double boxed the case and shipped. Arrived in perfect condition!! Love that the case stands on its own. Granddaughter is happy.
Bought for my son to transport his electric guitar to university. Good, solid case. Arrived quickly. He was delighted with the case and all the features – lock, space etc. would recommend.
Great quality. Comes with a pair of keys for the TSA lock. Would recommend!!
The Gator TSA traveling case is made out of polymer. There are three latches with one latch having that TSA approved lock. The case interior is built with molded material, foam padding, and soft velvet that helps to support the body and neck of the guitar. There are two pocket areas to hold your pedal, capo, tuner etc. My Stratocaster fits snuggly with no wiggle room. Overall, it’s a good case for it’s value.
Purchased this to protect my LTD MH1000 Evertune shred machine. Couldn’t be happier with build quality and fit and finish. Love the modern latches and the case looks as good as it protects. Not to mention fits my axe like a glove. Highly recommended 🙂
Arrived fast and its my telecaster like a glove.
The lock is TSA approved. If they need to open the case, TSA has a special tool to open and resecure the lock after checking. I flew the day after I got this case and had no issues. This case is sturdy well made. It would take gross abuse to damage it in any way. Overall, a very good case for the money and GREAT for flying/traveling.
Traveled with my precious acoustic/electric guitar. It was so sturdy that I had such a peace of mind while traveling. Comes with TSA lock, has an area to put your address/name label also. I’m very happy with this purchase and highly recommend.
This guitar case best by far all ny expectations, it’s beautifully craft and it’s solid to protect my guitar….money well spe
Shipped my fender electric guitar from Bangalore to Gurgaon via BlueDart Air in this…. Not a scratch… It held the guitar firmly… Only downside is the high cost… But I’m sure you are reading this because you care about the safety of your Instrument.. which it delivers…
This is the best guitar case I have ever seen. Absolutely amazing. I have bought several of these due to their rugged well crafted quality. I have a collection of custom built Warmoth guitars that are over $3,800.00 each and these cases protect them all!!!
Very well built case, fits a Strat just fine. The cut outs work for both right and left hand guitars, the storage compartments seal when closed so items shouldn’t move around too much. Would recommend over a gig bag. Guitar was still in tune after 150 miles bouncing around in the back of a truck!
Very nice case
Overall I’m happy with the purchase although the case did have some scratches/dents on the outside when it was delivered.
A little unfortunate when you spend thing much money on a high quality case.
Fits both my 4 and 5 string multi scale bass.
I purchased a Schecter Hellraiser Extreme-4 and the case needed, ACCORDING TO SCHECTER’S WEBSITE, was the SGR-6B. I had to return two separate cases since the bass clearly didn’t fit and there would have been long term damage to the neck. I was hesitant to buy a universal case, and even though Schecter makes one, I went with Gator. LOVE IT!!! It’s crazy well protected and there’s little room on either side of the body for movement. Locks are sturdy, it’s built like a TANK but not overly heavy. For a $1,000 bass it is an investment. Buy it to protect your gear. I’m convinced this was the right choice.
Does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I’ve accidentally dropped my guitar down the stairs in the case and there wasn’t a scratch on it. Great for traveling, and I’m continue use it as my every day case.
If you play an ES-335 and plan to travel with it, this case is a MUST. It’s quality bordering on over-engineered and I’m blown away by how well it’s designed and built. Expensive? Well, some might say that, but I consider it a small price to pay for this level of protection.
I bought this case used and it was in great condition.
Excellent case, desperados! Solid, secure, clean, attractive, a bit heavy. Be advised though: does NOT fit flamenco guitars with pegs. Not enough headstock depth. It won’t close. You could remove the pegs for the trip, unless you have planetaries. Great case, though.
I love this case but my guitar has an articulated neck with a high bridge and the case was about a quarter of an inch too shallow for my particular guitar. Sadly I had to return the case
I just received it today. It is more than what I expected. It is not rock hard specially in the middle part maybe they kept it a little flexible to absorb the shock. Very sturdy and high quality. My Alhambra 1 OP fits like a glove. I am hoping it will do as it said when i check in in the aeroplane.
I have no complains only one things i point out is that the padding all around is great but at the bottom part i felt it could have been more. or may its just my thought.
no complains at all. buy it blindly . There is nothing that can disappoint you.
This wonderful case fits my martin perfectly and keeps her safe from the dangers of transport.
I purchased this case in order to bring my guitar with me for recent deployment. Military baggage handlers are not gentle. The case was put through its paces and held up fine. Most importantly, there is not a scratch on my guitar.
I am really impressed. Very snug fit; my Larrivee dreadnought fit in it perfectly; so snugly that I was worried at first that it might not fit, but it slid in after a little trying, and it holds the guitar very securely, which is of course what you want in a flight case. Good size compartment for strings, picks, capos etc. Very sturdy construction with lots of firm padding, and quite lightweight. Three good, strong looking buckles.
It arrived in a pretty flimsy box with no bubble-wrap (just a plastic bag inside the box to protect it) but it arrived in perfect condition. If I was the seller, I would consider a layer of bubble-wrap to avoid damage in shipping, because odds are that some of these probably get banged up a bit in shipping. But mine arrived in perfect shape.
Some reviews have the neck supports uneven, and I found this to be true for my Yamaha SA2200. Simple fix: I used a Louisville Slugger, at the approximate spot/radius of the bat relative to the neck support I wanted to lower, and I firmly pushed/compressed the foam for an exacting fit. Works great now and both neck supports are perfect. Call it custom fit but don’t panic it’s and easy fix just used firm pressure and the support foam will compress. Good case all around, no 5 star due to neck support mismatch.
I purchased the case for traveling by plane, but I see no reason why it couldn’t be used as an every day case. The case is well made and appears to be durable. My Strat fit perfectly and survived its first trip to Hawaii without any issues. TSA inspected the case so I guess the TSA locks serve there purpose. I am very pleased with the case and would recomend it to anyone considering using it for traveling.
La proteccin que me brinda en el cuidado de mi instrumento musical
I carried it with me on the plane. It fit in the storage bins above the seats on both my international and domestic flights.
I put my PRS standard in it and fit nice and snug. Socks and other small clothes filled the gaps.
Appreciated how the case hugs the neck of the guitar and how there is an extra layer of padding on the top part of the inside of the case that closes on top of the guitar.
I was planning on checking it, but luckily didn’t have to. The good news is that—in my experience—it fits inside the overhead storage bins inside the plane cabin. That was an unexpected plus. Also, placing a luggage piece or two on top of it wouldn’t have been an issue I think.
Had I Known where it was made I probably would not have purchased the item. But it turned out to be O.K.
Used this case to transport bass guitar in checked baggage. Held up great. Highly recommend.
Good case. Sturdy as heck…no worries when using this baby for airline travel…
Had no issues onboard the plane going and below the plane on the return flight. P.s. Be aware that it is completely up to the airline check in how your guitar would travel as you can see.
Perfect. The travelling guitar case is really strong and protects the guitar when your not around to look after it. Locking system is robust yet easy to use. It’s also very stylish and when adorned with a few fragile stickers it will look in perfectly in place at a concert hall or dingy bar.
This is a high quality case, BUT I Play left handed and wanted a case for my Gibson R8 Les Paul. The molding inside will only accept a right handed Les Paul. I had to return the case unfortunately. the case otherwise was EXACTLY what I desired but I cannot use it. I wish the description of the case at the time i purchased it on Amazon included that the case is for right handed guitars only.
Needed this for a radio tour across Canada and my Taylor was snuggled up safe and sound in this durable well made case.
for my husband – beautifully made. he is so happy with it. great value!
Love this case. Used it to take a Strat on a vacation to Egypt, and put the case through quite an ordeal, including being checked into 4 flights. The case got a few minor scratches and dents, but the Strat was perfectly fine. Lots of room for other accessories, chargers, energy bars, etc.
An appropriately tight fit, and hella rugged. Takes up a little more space than the previous case, but well worth it. We play about 160 shows a year, and our equipment tends to take a bit of a beating; I’m confident this case will continue to protect our #1 for many years.
This case fits my Tayler 510 and 110 guitars perfectly, snugly and securely. I can lock it so I know the ground crew can’t open it, but TSA can with the TSA approved design. I was concerned about checking my guitar, but some plans just don’t have room to carry on. After checking this on 4 flight legs recently, I now check as baggage and longer worry about damage.
I bought this to use with an old Les Paul Deluxe. The latches are rugged, yet operate smoothly. This case is designed for air travel, I think, and it provides a substantial amount of protection for the instrument. A Les Paul needs support beneath the neck when cased, and this case provides adequate support at the critical location. There is an accessory compartment beneath the neck, which is useful for storing small items. If I could change anything about this case, it would be to make it a little lighter. My assumption is the weight is necessary to provide the high level of protection. I am very pleased with this guitar case and plan to buy another for my other guitar.
Really nice case. I had to check in my guitar twice, and while the case was a bit scratched, signalling it was treated roughly, the guitar did not have a single issues. I use it for an Epiphone Casino, which does not have a perfect fit, but with some bubble wrap under it, I got it to fit nicely. I highly recommend it for anyone who thinks they might not be allowed with the guitar as a carry on.
I ordered it and the 5 stars are because it was a great case.
Huge storage area, raised upper body cushion so the upper body isn’t just floating in the case.
However, I bought it because I emailed Gretsch about what case to find for my Gretsch G5622T. They suggested this one.
It does NOT fit and actually may break the neck. The lower neck brace is in a way where the neck doesn’t even touch the upper neck brace. It’s angled too high and when you close the lid, the lid with push down on the headstock and potentially snap the neck off.
Good solid construction. My Taylor Grand Auditorium fit like it was meant for it. Will be quite confident in checking in my beloved guitar with Air Canada.
The bass guitar case is well built and closes securely. The padding and internal space handle my bass without shifting and bouncing around. I have a Schecter bass and it fits well. The case also has a good size storage space under the neck to hold accessories and supplies.
El estuche es de buena calidad, resistente y mantiene a la guitarra firme en su interior. Ideal para viajes en avin.
Nice fit for my Washburn acoustic. Sturdy, secure, and well built. Able to check my guitar as baggage and arrived on both ends of my trip without damage to contents. Sat on the flat side of the case (with an old guitar inside) and no damage (I am 210lbs). Very happy with my purchase. Note that this may be checked as “oversize” baggage = extra $$$. It went through regular automated baggage check at Pearson in T.O. (Just need to move the neck a little ahead on the conveyor when you scan it).
Dreadnought size guitar fits snugly, no moving around in the case. Very sturdy and not much heavier than a standard Martin hardshell case, but much sturdier. Bumpers protect the lower bout and extended neck rest helps to keep the neck well-protected. TSA locks nice for airplane travel, but also an excellent case for any type of travel, even back and forth to gigs. Fit my Martin D-35 and my friend’s Taylor Dreadnought nicely.
Aloha from Sacramento, California. Flew in yesterday from Hawaii for a gig. Case handled the flight perfectly. Bass guitar unscathed and tuned right up. I did cut a section of a ceramic tile sponge to squeeze between the bottom of my Carvin 5-string and the case to prevent the bass from sliding back and forth. Super happy with the first trip. Will let you know if I have any issues or concerns when we get back home to Hawaii. Will also be traveling a few times to Japan in the next couple of months and possibly Europe if opportunity pans out. Definitely worth the price paid.
I bought this case to protect a Taylor A12e on a trip to the Dominican Republic. The guitar was a recent purchase and I was worried about protecting it during the 4 total plane rides to get to and from the DR. This case did great! I had to “gate check” it each time so it ended up in the cargo hold. Something of note is that I did add a pair of socks around the body of the guitar to make the smaller bodied A12e a little more snug inside the case.
Very heavy, solid construction, but no support in middle of where guitar body is located. About to fly to california with it… we’ll see!
I personally do not have a musical bone in my body… so I wasn’t exactly sure what I was looking for.. I was just looking through amazon and reading reviews and hoping for the best… and I feel like I definitely found a winner! I bought this as a Christmas gift for my fianc and he loves it. It was definitely worth the money. It’s sturdy and keeps his beautiful bass safe.
This is one of those times where you spend a little more money.. and you get what you payed for. I recently built a high end parts caster and it came out so perfect I knew I wanted a NICE case for it. Sight unseen this case was 50 bucks more than the next step down gator case and reluctantly I went for it. Let me tell you this case is incredible. The rubber on the handle, the latches, the snug fit.. it just screams quality. Ya know how the cheaper cases have the flimsy metal buckles that are a little off and when ya close it, it doesn’t exactly line up and it basically seems like cloth covered cardboard.. well this is not that. This is a PRO case meant for a professional level instrument to go inside. Pony up if you got a nice strat is my advice, totally worth it. And by the way, most of my other cases are stock USA gibson cases.. this case is in another class. I would actually feel comfortable checking this one for a flight.
I love how well this case fits my D-15 Mohogany Martin acoustic. It’s a nice secure fit. The case seems to be a very secure case. I plan to take my guitar to Europe this summer and needed a case that would be good for air travel. I think this case is going to be good. I didn’t want the expense and weight of the more heavy duty cases.
Does not fit an Epiphone DR-100 Acoustic Guitar, this guitar is 42″ long, body fits. Really nice case but it has to go back.
I read a review mentioning the brittleness of the metal latches on Gator’s cheaper case, and that’s what prompted me to go with this one instead. This one is lockable (a case for airport travel), and my G&L Telecopy fits perfectly. The handle is well-designed and comfortable, and the latches are smooth and quiet when opening and closing. The interior has two open compartments on either side of the guitar for storing picks, extra strings, cleaning cloths, Fret-Ease, capos, and other necessities. At first I wished the designer had added closure lids, but I found that once the case is closed and transported, not one thing moved out of place. A very good case, highly recommended.
I was Leary based on some reviews but I bought it anyway. Man what a great case for the money! I could not be happier.
I bought this case after reading some questionable reviews on the Schecter hard case recommend for my Hellraiser Hybrid. This case is very nice at the same price, and it fits my guitar like a glove. 10/10, will buy for all my future guitars.
My Epiphone Les Paul fits it like a glove! The latches are great and the handle is exceptionally comfortable. The case is of high quality construction and I am sure it will be my Guitars best friend for many years to come and came with two keys. This is the Guitar it is protecting and fits so incredibly well:

My son needed to travel with his college pep band and transport his bass guitar. After looking around and checking reviews online, we settled on the Gator Flight Case. He has 3 basses (and he’s primarily a tuba/trombone player), so we were concerned that the case wouldn’t fit all of the basses, but viola it did. Two are kind of of inexpensive beginner basses, and the third a custom one he and I made, modeled after a Fender 50s P-bass. He was also able to get the cables and a digital effects pedal in the case with little trouble. He had no trouble on the flights to/from the conference basketball tournament. He did say that it was a bit heavy after carrying it between the hotel they were staying at and the arena, but that’s sort of to be expected. Bottom line is it did the job of protecting the instrument as checked baggage.
This guitar case is the absolute best case for airline travel. Very sturdy and built for travel. It even has a TSA approved lock. Love it!!!
4 Stars. Im stretching for this one. With a company called Gator, your expecting a tough, hard to beat anywhere product. There is a certain level you have to live up to. Lets dive into the pro’s and cons.
Pro’s:
1) This seems to be well built. Maybe not pelican case, drop from a plane, but it certainly looks tough. Ill update after my flight.
2) Compact. It fits my Taylor like a glove, with no addded space, and is not oversized at all. Makes for easier travel.
3) TSA approved lock, with very little security. Fits right in with regulation substandard security that is the American way. We love it, that way the case and guitar doesnt get destroyed by a disgruntled TSA agent that wasnt paid.
Con’s:
1) Remember the expectations that I talked about for a company with the name Gator? Well this baby better have alligator skin, or be colored Orange and Blue. It is not!!! Not only is it not orange and blue, but its black and red. This leads me to believe that it may not live up to the expectations of a Gator.
Summary: I will update as time passes, but for now, this case did not meet my initial expectations. I reaching and giving them the benefit of doubt, hoping it protects my guitar and the red fades to orange.
This case was for the dreadnought. I have a Gretsch rancher dreadnought and it fit perfectly. I was concerned because another review suggested it wouldn’t fit most dreadnought’s. I worried for nothing. I have two dreadnoughts it fit both of them perfectly. While I bought it for my Gretsch it is good to know that there was no fit problem for the other one. The case is well made, and from what I can see will be ideally suited for travel. I started playing guitar in 1972 and have owned many instruments. I have travelled to more than ten countries oversees. I also have built some instruments and repaired many more for others. Based on my experience, I would say this case is an ideal choice for a dreadnought accoustic.
Awesome flight case!…Very sturdy and great built! It fit my acoustic guitar (Fender FA-115) perfectly like a glove. So exited to have this case…A+++++ Gator cases any day
…the GTSA-GTRELEC case, with room to spare. The neck support and headstock area are a perfect fit; there’s one inch of extra space on both sides of the guitar’s lower bout, and three extra inches at the tail end. (I solved this issue with a cut-to-fit foam spacer, made from Case Club Closed Cell Military Grade Pistol Case Foam, 18″x16″x1.5″.) The case is a perfect match for the guitar’s thickness. Finding a hard shell case for this low cost, surprisingly high-quality short-scale instrument was real challenge, so I’m quite happy with this solution, even though the case cost nearly as much as the guitar. The Gator case itself is light to carry, but well designed, well constructed, and very sturdy. It beats my vintage Fender Stratocaster case on most of those counts. I would definitely recommend it for the full-size instruments it’s actually intended for.
Purchased this to hold my 2003 Gibson Les Paul Custom. The original hard shell case had some difficult latches, and I wanted to preserve it in case I ever sell down the road. Overall, the case feels sturdy. The outer shell would likely protect from all but the most forceful of impacts, and the latches feel secure. The inner foam is fairly dense, but soft enough that it will absorb impact. The case is molded well and holds my Custom snuggly. Dunlop strap buttons don’t affect the fit.
The one issue I have is that the case is not easy close (though it isn’t unnecessarily difficult) , and it seems the cause (at least in part) is that the edges of the case don’t align perfectly.
The compartment beneath the neck is big enough to fit a fairly wide strap coiled up on its side, but not much esle.
Overall, I’d recommend this case if you’re looking for solid protection at a fair price. Just be aware that it is a tight fitting case. Make sure the version you are buying will fit your particular guitar.
The case is great for people who need to travel. Most airlines are not allowing.instruments in the cabin and forcing people to document their instruments. This case is strong and sturdy enough to endure the harshness of United Airlines baggage services…
My guitar has traveled as checked luggage twice and survived w/o a scratch. Love it!
our gear got ‘misplaced’ at JFK, 3 hours later, with a few scuff marks and scratches, my custom jbass came away unscathed. never, ever lay over at JFK
I purchased this case rather blindly and based only on the Amazon customer reviews, as I did not have the time or patience to seek out professional reviews.
My guitar is worth probably $700.00, which is pretty substantial for me. So it was a big gamble to purchase a case that might be handled by airline baggage gorillas.
I had hoped to take it into the cabin, but I was informed at the airport that it had to go underneath. So goodbye beautiful guitar…
Well, I have now flown with this case on four flights and the case is amazing. No damage whatsoever to my instrument. The case, however, has clearly been through hell as it is now severely scraped and gouged in ways that I haven’t a clue as to what those guys do down there to cause so much damage. But it is a tough case and it hasn’t given in.
The best thing about the case is the TSA lock. I’ll tell you right now that all four round trip flights (eight legs) have resulted in a TSA notice placed inside the case. I hate that every time I fly, somebody is opening and looking at my guitar (and maybe even taking it out of the cradle, heaven forbid). But they do it every time. I’m just glad that it gets locked up again. Just be aware that guitar cases apparently attract scrutiny.
In any case (pardon the pun), I recommend this product. It does the job that it is supposed to do and it does it well.
Well made and durable, but for slim hollow body styles, a thin pad/pillow must be inserted under the back bottom of the guitar or the neck cradle won’t line up properly with the guitar, forcing the headstock into the top of case. Easily solved…… wonder why Gator doesn’t include one with purchase…..
I bought this because I had a business trip to Penang Malaysia and wanted to try to find an open mic while out there. This case worked very well and it survived the assault of luggage handling (And I got to play in another country!). This case is not as large or as heavy as I thought it would be. I believe this could be my standard guitar case for anything local as well. It was a snug fit for my guitar but I keep a suction cup knee stand on it so it would have had a little more room without. No damage to the guitar but the case got banged up and scratched so I feel good about this purchase.
While it doesnt fit my EB Stingray5 perfectly like the ErnieBall case did….it feels more sturdy. And will probably last longer….I’ve had 2 in 10 years….love the latches!
I just got the Gator case for a custom made nylon string guitar that I just completed the build on yesterday. The case fits this guitar perfectly! I mean, there’s no looseness at all… it’s like the case was custom made to fit the guitar. The guitar, by the way, is similar in size and shape to a Taylor NS series instrument.
Aside from the fit (which is excellent) the TSA style locks are positive and work well. It has the overall appearance of being well constructed and should last a very long time. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star rating is because (as evidenced by a little sticker I found inside the accessory pocket) it was made in China. I prefer ‘made in the USA’… like everything else I buy.
Otherwise, it seems like a really good case. If I ever need to fly with this particular guitar, I don’t think I could give it better protection (for the money I spent, that is) than this particular case; and that’s saying a lot.
Got my instrument to it’s destination safely. Super convenient that you can stand it on its long or short edge. It could definitely use either rollers or a carrying strap, as carrying 15-20 lbs gets heavy when moving through a large airport. Also, the keys to the lock are cheap and one broke on the first trip. Luckily there is a backup, but I probably won’t be locking my case. Bottom line: when compared to other cases, I feel most confident in this one too keep my guitar in one price.
This is the specific case I wanted, I wanted polycarbonate rather than wood, to save on weight, and I suspect the polycarbonate to be more rugged. Gator have a great reputation, and I wanted the TSA compatible lock.
I was lucky to find a second-hand case (from a main dealer online) for 60% of the price of a brand-new one here on Amazon.
This is a really great case. It holds my SG (a Tony Iommi Signature SG) firmly and gives the correct support required underneath the neck. The latch mechanisms feel strong and secure.
As usual there is also a compartmsnt below the neck for ofdds and ends – eg plectrums, strap, truss-rod key, tuner. . . . . . . .. .
The case feels sturdy and is quite light when empty.
All-in-all this is a GREAT case.
I wanted to be sure to review this for those out there with the same guitar as me, looking for a durable travel case. I got a great deal on this guitar, but the one caveat was that it didn’t come with the hard shell case it was supposed to come with. I figured I could just contact Guild or a dealer and replace it – turned out not to be that easy, they are consistently out of stock in the Guild webstore. The other option is to purchase the case from TKL (I believe the correct case ID is 8955) but that costs $220 from what I can find online, which is $70 more than if I got the Guild version, which again, is always out of stock. I decided I’d need a more rugged case than the stock one anyway for touring purposes, something TSA approved, so I figured screw it, I’ll save money and just buy one that is TSA approved from a 3rd party. I do love traditional, vintage styled cases, they’re beautiful, but they’re not really made for the road, so this is a far better choice for musicians that get out of their home. If you want something pretty, just buy the TKL one, this one is way more utilitarian.
Since it’s difficult to find a lot of info about Guild electrics online, they’re not nearly as popular as Gibsons or Fenders, I wanted to contribute to those out there dealing with the same search and I wanted to confirm for them: For the Newark St. Collection Starfire IV / V, this case is a perfect, snug fit. It holds the body perfectly in place, the lid has enough space to close without the bigsby compromising that, the neck has great support, and the headstock has plenty of space around it to float. The craftsmanship feels great. The latches are a great design and I feel like this will hold up to future jerk bag handlers, including the nosey ones that must pry their way into a guitar case, I feel like this lock and latch system will be too much of a hassle for them and they’ll move on. Fellow Guild players, this one’s good.
I have 2 concert sized classical guitars. One is a 1959 Manuel Velazquez and the other a 1976 Robert S. Ruck. I originally purchased this case to replace a standard hard shell case that came with the Ruck. Both guitars fit as if this case was custom made for them. It holds them very securely. It is lightweight for a case of this type and very durable. I don’t know if you would consider it appropriate for air travel because I have had no experience with it. I have read other reviews that say it flew just fine. The interior is soft but sturdy. The accessory compartment is larger than normal so you can fit a lot of accessories. I have a Thalia capo, Snark Supertight tuner, extra strings, pencils, fingernail files and sandpaper in it and there’s room for more. The carry handle is extremely comfortable and the latches are excellent. It has a TSA lock incorporated into the center latch.
I just can’t say enough positive about this case. I like it so much I’m thinking of getting another one for the Velazquez even though its original case is still in fine shape. Get one. You won’t be disappointed.
Amazon seems to confuse electric with classical guitar cases. My Takamine classical fit like a glove. Well designed, more stout than I expected. Full confidence it will take the abuse of international airline baggage.
Fit my Yamaha AC3R fine, was a little snug on the A3M so I wouldn’t fly with it in cargo. The ABS plastic seems to work better for maintaining humidity control in my area than the plywood cases. (Along with desiccant) It does not fit all dreadnoughts well, so know your guitars size.
Bought two. Keeping them both for home storage. Will need something sturdier for a travel case. I can press down on top with very little effort. don’t think it would protect guitar very well from heavy suitcases being tossed on it.
Case works great for air travel. It’s very sturdy and has a TSA lock so that you can keep your guitar safe. I’ve taken it on a flight before and it stood up very well. The case is rather heavy, but that’s the price you pay for a sturdy case.
The inside is lined in felt and has pockets for your picks, tremolo arm, capo, etc. Handle is in a good spot, means the case is balanced.
Solid case, nice locks. I was afraid the plastic locks would get broken or be inadvertently opened too easily, but I flew this thing over an ocean and toured with it relentlessly and neither happened. My only complains: 1) The tolerance was a little loose for my taste for my Gibson SG ’61 Reissue, not something I’d worry about on the road but I definitely packed some shirts with it to check on the flights. Neck does have nice support along its entire length. 2) No freaking storage. Why can’t anyone make an SG case with space for more than about three guitar picks?
I really like the case and have flown to and from several countries carrying my beloved Stratocaster with no trouble. One big complaint I have, however. Usually on at least one leg of a trip I get asked by either a check-in clerk or personel at the baggage claim whether or not the case contains a loaded weapon. I got a Fender sticker and a sticker with a picture of a guitar on it and put them on the case but that did not help. The rectangular shape and overall dimensions of the case are very similar to what is used to carry firearms. Since this has happened to me many times, I have come to expect it and am ready to answer that the case carries a musical instrument. I am not so concerned about this in the United States but when I travel abroad and do not speak the language or know the local laws I get a bit nervous. I recently got the classical guitar case and hopefully because it is shaped like a guitar I will not have this problem but of course that means traveling with my second choice of guitar.
Great case. Fits my Martin perfectly. I had to replace my old case after years of rough airport handling; I like the new latches. The size chart was most helpful. Thanks for a case that will serve me well over the next decade!
Truly worthy of 5 stars. What you get for the price is astounding. Fits my Gibson LP studio like a glove. Incredibly sturdy with a solid handle. The latches feel great and have a metal hinge. I don’t see any obvious weak points but I would have almost preferred the traditional style latches as they’re a simpler design and that makes me feel a bit more confident about their longevity. Lovely new home for my baby – you won’t be let down with this one.
Keep in mind this one would not fit a left handed LP.
Absolutely perfect for what I needed. I have an Ibanez black eagle bass and it has a cutout on the headstock that is well known for breaking. As a result I have always been nervous even moving it around inside my house. In this case, I am very confident that my bass is safe, even the fragile headstock. The padding is great and fits my bass exceptionally well. The black inside and out looks fantastic. The old version of this case was supposed to be maroon-ish but when I finally got a chance to see it in person it was PINK, not pink, PINK. I’m sure there are people that love that look but it wasn’t for me. Also the old latches were a little hard to use and kind of awkward. The latches on this new version are easy to use and feel very secure. I think if you are really traveling a lot, with a super expensive instrument, it would be worth investing in Gator’s professional level stuff, but for gigging locally, transporting to lessons, keeping it safe from the kids, etc. this is absolutely perfect. For the money, I haven’t seen any even remotely comparable case.
We bought this case so our son could carry his guitar during our trip through China. The guitar and contents were safely transported, and the case stood up well to the treatment from airline personnel.
This is a replacement case for my Guild. It replaces the older version of the Gator case I have owned for over 20 years. The older case served me well, enduring many trips in air and being checked in baggage. How unfortunate that case was damaged when it was run over by a utility trailer. But it was a pleasure to replace this case since it kept my Guild unharmed from the accident. This case is worth every penny and then some. I like the new latches, they are easier to operate. This is a great guitar case.
