Hmmm. The jury is still out...
What I like: lots of hose. Hose reteaction works well… so far. Reaches everwhere I want it to go. Fastens securely to the wall and wall bracket is sturdy.
What I dislike: seems cheap – lots and lots of plastic, low grade brass fittings, poor quality nozzle (poorly made and broke without much stress) = see images , the hose is already stating to wear, and it takes a bit of back and forth to find the sweet spot to lock the hose – a minor annoyance.
I am really hoping this lasts more than a few seasons.

I was looking at changing how I store the hose I use all the time from a box on the ground to a wall mounted unit. My neighbor has a couple of these and really likes them, so I gave them a shot.
They do work very well, pretty easy to use and simple to install. The hose is 1/2″, not 5/8″ as advertised. Flow rate would obviously be better with 5/8″ but this still does work well. Just have to spray a little longer.
The unit rotates 180 degrees, which is nice when pulling hose out, you don’t just have to pull in the same line. The hose does get heavy when pulling out, but it is full of water. Retracting works great, the hose pulls back in fast if you don’t control it, so be sure to control the hose when retracting, it will eventually break if you don’t.
Installation was simple, it can easily be done by one person. I don’t think the template is very accurate, but it really isn’t needed when just attaching to wood. Easy enough to find the center and start one hole, the others fall in place.
My problem is the hose is not 5/8″. It is 1/2″. Garden hoses, like all types of raceway/pipe, are classified by inside diameter, not outside. I contacted the manufacturer on this and they stated their hoses are listed by outside diameter, causing confusion and making the buyer think they’re getting a better product. This isn’t the first review to mention the problem either.
Last year I purchased this same brand only the one that is 100′ long, it had the smaller hose, It takes care of my front yard. This year I purchased the 90′ retractable hose and this one has the larger hose. I LOVE them. I am listing the pro/cons and advice for both. The 90′ hose is for my back yard, It is much harder for me to pull it all out, but both take effort to pull out. PRO’S: You will never have to roll up by hand your hose again, it delivers a great amount of water, CON’S: both hose’s will kink when watering and when this happens the water will completely shut off. Both size’s of the hose take ALOT of effort to pull out, but I have a lot of health issues so ADVICE: When rolling the hose back into the unit, you will need to keep your hand on the hose to keep control, otherwise it rolls up too fast. When doing this, I keep the water on, and I spray the hose where my hand is on the hose as it is retracting, this will keep the hose clean and help keeping the internal area from getting all the dirt/grass that sticks on the hose. Last bit of advice: Make sure it is mounted securely, Our back yard hose is attached on the side of our fireplace, the hose in the front of house, has pulled away from the house. My husband finally attached a board to the front of our house and attached the real to the board. If it pulls off again, he plans on getting a square deck support post, digging down, then using cement to set the post, and then mount the hose to that. All in all, this is a GREAT retractable hose, and I use it every day during the summer. I also highly recommend this to anyone looking to get this hose.
Thism90 foot retractable hose has Great water flow, and is very heavy duty. I bought one for South side of house, used a couple months and bought none for north side. Aftern3 months the north side was acting up, the guide that moves back and forth to make sure hose reels up would stick. Contacted Giraffe tools, via email, same day Lea contacted me and ask if I could get photo or video, I thought here we go long process, I was SO WRONG. Took both sent next day, two days later I had a new reel sitting on door step! FANTASTIC warranty and customer service. I highly recommend this product, exceeded my expectations!

This retractable hose reel is awesome. It works as advertised, is fairly easy to set up and is a breeze to use
The only current negative thing that I have to say is that the baseplate to attach the hose reel to the post is to wide to fit on a standard 4×4 post. For me it was not a big deal, I just attached a piece of 2×10 to the 4×4 and the attached the hose reel baseplate to the 2×10.
The only other worry that I have is that am not sure how the cover will deal with the sun. I have only had this for a month. If the sun ends up damaging the cover I will update this review.

Bought this originally over year ago. First hose reel did not work out of box, locking mechanism. Support got me a new one here right away. 2nd reel we got lasted a little over a year and same problem. Sent me a new one right away no charge that little larger than last.

No issues with the unit, retracts well, hose seems good for purpose. The lead hose could be a bit longer (it’s maybe 3-4 feet but depending where you install it, it could be an issue if you pivot it when pulling the hose).
Comes with lag screws and concrete anchors which is nice. I mounted to a post, but be aware that the screw holes on the bracket are just slightly wider than what a 4×4 post could hold so you need either a 4×6 post, or additional wood to attach. To be fair the instructions do state that it needs more than a 4×4 post, but you sort of expect a “regular” post to hold a hose reel without issue and the fact that the bracket looks like it would fit on a 4×4 could be surprising to someone (it was to me)
Only gave a 4 because I have only used it a week. Worked great out of the box but we’ll see how long it lasts, being all plastic longevity is my biggest concern.

It’s a sturdy product and easy to install. Love the smooth retraction and the water pressure was good. I prefer my sprayer but the one it comes with is okay too. I wish it pulled out a bit easier. Takes some significant pull to get it out so make sure it’s mounted well and to something strong but overall, I’m happy.

I did have an issue with the holder I was sent, but customer service was great and they fixed it.
Original post: This is my first season using is holder and hose and the mechanism that moves the hose back and forth while retracting is already stuck. It does not move back and forth so the hose only winds on the one side of the reel and it can’t handle the full length of the hose. Very disappointed and frustrated.

Ordered two units following a friend’s recommendation. Great product and easy solution to the bulky garden hoses that always need to be rolled back, get all entangled on the ground, bend, break etc.
One of the units had a problem and would not lock. The Giraffe Customer service team (Doris) was very friendly, professional and immediately corrected the situation by sending a replacement unit which arrived a few day later. Highly recommended.

Good quality material the hose is very smooth when your pulling it out and quick to re wind easy fit but get large raw bolts fitting not what you get with the hose as it could come of the wall in about 6 months
The secret to the hose is it secure to the wall.
I found the mounting hardware they provided did not work well and resorted to metal lags and bolts which really made it tight to the wall.

At $200 the Griaffe exceeds its value. A good hose reel is over $100 and so is a decent hose. The retractable feature put it over the top. I just ordered a 2nd one.

I purchased this item in replacement for another one which I returned. Absolutely brilliant with a very long hose and so easy to retract back into its base. I would recommend this, no more carrying heavy watering cans dependent on any hosepipe ban in your area of course!

Fantastic product.
It can be so difficult to rewind long hose pipes manually without getting kinks – and it can be hard work. This 30m reel assembly is just so easy and quick.
We used to have a self-winding reel that used water pressure. But it leaked after a cold winter when we forgot to move it inside soon enough. This one is operating perfecting now. And we WILL remember to move it indoors this winter.

A very good retractable reel, easy to fit and a good quality product. Unfortunately the first reel arrived with a damaged side cover, but I liked the reel so I order a replacement which was Ok. So much easier to use, the new patio prompted me to invest in a new much better retractable unit. Good choice

I bought this hose reel for my daughter as I thought it would be easier to use than a manual one. Also it is not as bulky as some other makes. She has only had it for a few weeks but so far it is working fine, very easy to pull out and retract when wanting to rewind. I fitted it on the wall but used a wooden batten to fix it against so that it has enough clearance against the wall to turn through 180 degrees.
After 8 months of light use it leaked, but to giraffes credit a replacement was sent to me… this to me is how you find a good company on how they deal with problems 5* on tha

But it still rotates enough to enable the hose to be taken out at an angle left or right. It has revolutionised our ability to water distant plants, and especially tubs. Strongly recommended.

Good product. Unwinds easily and winds back up in an orderly fashion – the only hose that I have ever had that does wind itself in with no drama. Not the cheapest, but I guess you get what you pay for and fits with all hozelock and similar attachments

Within hours she sent me shipment tracking information on a replacement. I took the broken one apart anyway, and discovered the defect, the plastic posts to which the lock mechanism attaches had sheered off. I was able to use JB Weld to cement the lock mechanism to the roller wheel. Re-assembly was tricky, but it was all fixed up in 1 hour. Now I have a spare.

Installation was fine and it does a good job pulling the hose back in. Unfortunately it does not have a hose brake. Normally you would expect to pull it to a distance, stop then give it a slight pull to latch the hose into place. It appears the one I purchased doesn’t have this brake or it is broken and therefore it is not very useable.
Update 1: After contacting the seller through Amazon they requested a video showing the issue. I provided it and they are sending another unit to me and not requesting I send the other back. I will update this once it arrives and I have installed it.
Update 2: The company sent a new unit and it works as advertised. I am quite pleased with it now as even the swap out was quick. Pulled the hinge pin and swapped units. It took longer to unpack than swap.
Since they did not want the return unit I disassembled it and the plastic housing where the center reel has a brake was broken and would just spin. Since the sides of the outer housing are duplicates to save cost during MFG, I could have repaired the unit but I simply removed the hose and put an end on it.
The company had good customer service so I am updating my review to 5 stars.

Needs some strength to pull out!
Getting older, and definitely a bit creaky, I needed a hose that would behave itself and be easy to pull out and, more importantly, rewind, with little effort. I read loads of opinions on a variety of retractable hose reel and decided that this one was a reputable brand, so would go for it. Not sure about the assembling comment, I had a man who did all the necessary to affix it to the wall, so no issues there. I would point out that this hose ( and perhaps all retractable hoses?) is not so easy to pull out, and requires a bit of strength. I thought I could just wander easily to the front garden from the back ..alas, no. However, I have now worked out that if I pull it out to the required length, ( hint, mark hose with coloured tape! ) right beside the box rather than with the spray end where I want to water, then I can work it very well. Same for retracting, go to beside the box and feed it in gently. It is still a lot easier than my previous hose, on a wheel, and I am reasonably happy with it, though I do t think the hose itself is not of a brilliant quality, I noticed one ” kink” already, so am keeping fingers crossed. It was an expensive item, so really hope it lasts.
The Giraffe hose reel works great in my front yard by the driveway. The pressure seems reduced to me, but I'm fine with that since water availability is always a concern in my Northern California community. It gives me the water I need to wash vehicles or water plants, and conveniently rolls up the hose when I'm done!

The only concern I had when I purchased this product was that the hose bore might be a little narrow and restrict pressure, but that’s not the case, the pressure was equal to my standard hose which I was very pleased about.
It’s advertised as 180 rotation but if you screw to a flat wall that’s not the case because the reel container will not fold flat against the wall and sticks out about 3 inches.
This is extremely annoying and as a consequence I’m having to put a 20 mm wood spacer to move the bracket out from the wall far enough so that the hose body folds flatter. That also requires me buying 20 mm longer bolts so additional expense of 7 I wasn’t expecting.
Other than that this is an excellent product.
UPDATE
Even with a 20mm spacer between the wall and bracket the hose reel does not fold flat to the wall so definitely not a 180 degree hinge, more like 150 degree. We have a narrow alleyway down the side of the house and although this is only a couple of extra inches wide due to not folding flat it’s a pain. See photo.
Also please be careful as the plastic does scratch very easily.

I screwed into brick wall by hose bib. About 18 inches off the ground and works perfectly. Good flexibility and stable.
Read directions as this favors the hose being turned off on The way out and in.
Only improvement would be a plate melted and then giraffe can hook to mounting plate. This may be an option now that I have missed thank you enjoy

Don’t use the wall plugs that come with it, they are not fit for purpose, they just spin so screws won’t go in. Fortunately I had my own rawl plugs and installed without issue using them. Hose works as it should, didn’t have any issues with kinks as mentioned in other reviews. Just watered the gardens, one with the included spray gun and one attached to a sprinkler. So far happy with the hose reel.

This is a serious bit of kit. Well made and very sturdy, looks and feels like it’ll last for years and years. The unspooling/spooling mechanism works very well too. Highly recommended.
Used it in a commercial applicatio
I bought this for my shop where we winterize, repair and detail boats. I was just hoping this would last the summer as a lot of my stuff gets constantly abused by my workers. I’ve got to say this has stood the test of time so far. We’ve probably used this over 6,000 times (20x a day for 300 days) and it’s flawless.

Let me start by saying I have been purchasing from Amazon for over 15 years and this is the first review I write. i feel the need to share my experience.
I purchased my first hose last year from this company and it worked great. So I decided to purchase another. The next one had an issue of reeling back on its own. I contacted company after return window was past bc I didn’t install unit right away. I couldn’t believe how attentive they were in dealing with my issue. They stood behind their product, communicated clearly and consistently with me, refunded the difference, and replaced the product. It was amazing and I personally will continue to do business with this company as I was so impressed with how the issue was handled.
Really nice quality! However the mounting hardware it comes with is useless.. go to Home Depot and buy tapcon screws.. get 3/8in and drill it into the cement. If going into drywall. Get drywall anchors. Not the cheap ones that comes with it. The only other negative is the piece of junk nozzle it comes with. It restricts the flow of water that a 5/8in hose already restricts enough. I wish this came in 3/4 but do yourself a favor and get another nozzle. Other than that this is really smooth. Very easy to install. Just one single tiny screw sets it on the bracket. Take that off and it will pop right off.

This is everything I hoped it would be. It’s made such a difference. Less toil and tangle free. Takes the task out of watering both back and front gardens and is very compact. I love this retractable hose. Very sturdy casing and it folds flat. Would recommend.

So far this has been excellent. Relatively easy to install (you will need a 12mm masonry drill) and retracts and swivels very well. Mounted at the back of the house and should reach all the way to the front going round the corne
Great hose for all purpose use
Easy to install and strong sturdy bolt screws came with it. Really easy to extend and retract for storage. No more rolling up hoses or getting tangled! I got fed up storing hoses and then putting them away, this makes that task take less than 20 seconds. Highly recommend for every day house use.
Retractable hose
It performs well, however the connections supplied could done to have bebeen a better quality as water from the tap leaks out onto the ground which is a waste, so I used Karcher fittings instead. Amazing result!

Have a horse barn with 4 stalls and it was a hassle each day to water horses and drag a water hose thru out barn and then back out and then hang it up out of the way.
Hated the price of this one, but reviews were great…..so I bit the bullet.
So glad I did. I LOVE it!, so dang easy to pull out and use and so dang easy to walk it back out of the barn and walla…its put up!
So once you get over the price shock and use it, you will wonder how you made it before.
Its kinda big….but all work it.

Very Good Product So Far!
Pros: I really like this product. The lead hose is extra long and the ability to swing the hose carrier is very creative and useful. I would be hesitant to install into sheetrock with the mollies that were included. I mounted mine on a 2×6 that is secured to a wall stud. The hose pulls out and retracts easily. I love the nozzle that’s included. I mounted our unit higher up so no more back strain moving water hose.
Cons: Instructions are vague and metric measurements. Nowhere do the instructions mention the small locking screw that holds the unit on the mounting bracket. And the product is Chinese. I still can’t believe American ingenuity cannot produce a similar product for the price.
Buy one! I’ve spent years messing about buying all sorts of hose pipes. I spent more time untangling then watering. I couldn’t bring myself to spend “big” on a hosepipe. I was making a schoolboy error!
This comes ready assembled. You just have to drill 3 holes in the wall to mount it.
It automatically recoils. With a simple tug the hose gets drawn back into the housing. Wow what a difference!

Very good hose and reel
Very good love the almost 180 degrees of movement the auto retract for the hose my only 2 bad things are the hole guide in the manual is not to size almost 4mm off in the length and only other problem is the holes of the mounting screws are very tight to the frame have to force a socket over it or use an open ended spanne
Excellent product. Expensive but works really well and worth spending a bit more for it. Easy to mount on a wall and very secure. The return to the reel works smoothly coiling the pipe up inside the drum neatly. Pipe is also a good quality and it comes with a rose head attachments.
Only one minor point. When mounted on the wall it doesn’t quite swing through 180 degrees, more like 160 but not enough of a drawback to knock a star off!
Great build quality and components seems built to last. Very strong pull back and reassuring stop and lock.
Fantastic this item was easy to assemble and install. It is very eas to operate, unwind and rewind. It is just what I wanted to allow me to water my plants. Terrific buy and value for money.
