The history of Ibanez

Ibanez was founded in Japan in 1908 as Hoshino Gakki. Originally selling sheet music and accessories. It wasn’t until late 1920’s that Hoshino Gakki decided to introduce guitars. Since then Ibanez has been one of the most well known guitar brands across the world.

I’ve had a few twelvers in my time, but this is easily the best one. Built like brick out house, and amazingly the action was amazing out of the box. As you may have noticed, I love this guitar.

Arrived on time. Nice looking guitar and sounds reasonable for the price point but needed to make some adjustments to get there. There was a lot of buzzing from the strings which I wouldn’t expect from a manufacturer like Ibanez. After an adjustment of the neck I was able to get a reasonable response. Action is nice and better than some more expensive guitars I have bought. All of the above can be sorted with a little knowledge. Biggest issue for me was that the packaging was atrocious and although the guitar itself was not damaged the state of the box it came in was so flimsy that transit broke two strings with one tuning peg visible before opening. Better packaging would have got that extra star.

Box arrived on time, packaged a bit iffy, though upon inspection,no damage,demonstrating Amazon’s staffs care in transit. Tuned guitar in (1 string missing sadly) played “whatever” by oasis, sounded awesome, stayed totally in tune, smiles all round

The other reviews are mostly spot on.

Guitar plays nice, sounds great. Has a few minor defects, but nothing that affects playability, sound, or even overall looks unless you’re really paying attention.

I’ve got another Ibanez Performance 6 string, the quality control in the details is slightly lower here than it was on that. I’ve attached pictures…little things like a burr on one of the frets, a little jagged edge in the sound hole, and some minor defects on the wood of the bridge.

But action is good, sounds great, and nobody besides me is any wiser.

In most important respects is just as good as another 12 string I played in a local shop, only for $100 less.

Not as nice as my other Ibanez, but still a good guitar for the money

Die Gitarre kam fast gestimmt an und der Klang ist einfach sehr gut, viel Volumen und klare Tne. Kein Scheppern oder sonstige Gerusche. Das schwarze Kunststoff als Schutz fr Kratzer auf dem Holz war schnell matt geworden, aber ich hatte vergessen die Schutzfolie abzuziehen und nun ist alles OK.

Ich kann diese Gitarre sogar Anfngern empfehlen, nur Zupfen ist auf einer 12-Saiter etwas schwieriger.

Firstly, don’t buy this guitar if you think you are receiving what is shown in the listing pictures (read the answered questions and you’ll find out that this is a straight 12 string accustic. Being that I already knew this I won’t use that as a downside (although a bit deceptive to those who go based off of first look). Don’t be misled by the low price. This is a very good guitar. I have had Guild, Martin, and Taylor. The construction and finish seem to be top notch. The tone is very bright and the action is just the right height. Does not come with a case, but those are readily available. Recommended highly.

E’ la mia prima chitarra a 12 corde, e per un principiante l’ideale per l’ottimo rapporto qualit-prezzo.
Il suono pulito e armonioso, proprio come mi aspettavo.
Consiglio questa chitarra a chi vuole cimentarsi per la prima volta con una 12 corde.

Hace solo una semana que la tengo, pero de momento va perfecta.
No he puesto 5 estrellas porque creo que debera venir con una correa (aunque fuera mala) y una funda para su transporte, adems de unas mnimas instrucciones de afinacin y conservacin.

Owned this guitar in 2010 and loved it. The neck feels is “just” right for a 12 string with my medium small hands. The sound is quite bright and lacks a teeny amount of body yet is definitely not a deal breaker. Ibanez have grown over the years and their craftsmanship has been consistent and has gotten better over the decades.

I have been playing guitar since the mid 1960’s ( yes okay I’m old but still rockin’ ) and this is the third acoustic 12 string I have owned.
I spent a couple of hours trawling the net to check out what was available and kept coming back to this Ibanez guitar. The reviews were usually very good but I found the price varied quite a lot, the top price being around 180.

I found the one on Amazon advertised by Music Room who are a well established company, to be the cheapest of all the offers. My next thought was ‘how good can it be for that price’? Because it was an Ibanez, I decided to take the plunge and order it.

It was delivered by UPS within a couple of days. On opening, I was delighted at the quality of the finish and furthermore it was almost in tune (slightly flat) As I tuned it up, I found that the machine heads were smooth to use and the gearing ideal for the gentle tuning of a 12 string, which can be fiddly.

Bottom line is that I would recommend The Music Room and this guitar to anyone. Brilliant service and a great instrument. Don’t hesitate to buy one.

Pretty nice instrument overall. Nothing “world class” but very playable right out of the box. Laminated top so may be a little trade off on the sound for the strength and stability. Not all guitars get to live safely under the bed. Some have to “go to work” and a laminated top is not a bad thing in that case. Set-up as delivered was pretty doggone good. I may lift the nut .003-.004″ at some point to eliminate a little ringing on the open, higher strings. But aside from that the action is very playable. My only complaint is not directed at the seller, who had the package on the way ON TIME. But good old FEDEX screwed up and left it sit for 24 yours in N. Mississippi and i missed having it for a performance. I bought it specifically to replace a guitar which “bit the dust” and needed a new one on short notice. So, the seller did well…..FEDEX not so well. If you need/want a 12-string that plays and you don’t want a second mortgage on it….this one could be the answer.

Action is solid. The only issue I encountered, and it’s a minor one, is the B strings we’re crossed above the nut when I received it. It still plays fine, but I can see one of those strings snapping in the near future.

I've wanted one for years to more accurately play songs like "More than a feeling" by Boston, "Rivers of Babylon" by Sublime, etc. As someone who usually plays a six string, this feels so much more comfortable to play, it's easy to find the right notes. Got this dude yesterday. Tuned it up and ready to go. Maybe I just got luckier than some; mine was set up just fine. Tone, resonance, sustain, straight neck, low action; but no buzz, looks, all good. You can’t beat it for $200. Of course, it’s no Martin, Taylor, or Guild. That just ain’t gonna happen for the price. Close enough for government work, though. I’m more than just a little pleased with it. Really love the slimmer neck.

This is an excellent deal. Nice tone, surprising volume, solid construction, good playability with the slim fretboard. As delivered, some of the strings were buzzing on the frets because the action was low. I adjusted the neck slightly, raising the action, which resolved the issue. (BTW, I always keep my 12-strings tuned two frets–one full step–low in order to relieve a bit of the string pressure from the neck and bridge, then capo at the second fret to bring it up to standard pitch. This has the added advantage of lowering the action with the capo, saving some wear on the fingertips while playing.)
