One of our terriers is a headcase and her co-terrier is easily led, so now I’m carrying muzzles with me to use as a last resort when the one sets off the other. They’ve recently started tussling more on their walks as well, mainly instigated by the female, who is half the size of her brother but twice as mean.
I tried a few different muzzles before settling on this. The hard, cage muzzles were the worst. I much prefer this easily adjusted muzzle. You can set it so the dog can still, eg take a treat or even lap water, but not bark super loud or give a serious bite.
They don’t like them and still try to take them off but they haven’t been able to, so that’s something.
I only use them as a last resort and am continuing to try and get them to associate other dogs and old men with treats, but it is slow going.
Our little dog is three years old. We bought him a year ago after our sweet old dog sadly passed away.
Unsure of how he would react to our then 21 month old granddaughter we bought one of those cage type muzzles. He didn’t seem to mind us putting it on but used to try and take it off when first wearing it. I felt sorry for him, I was sure it was uncomfortable for him as it was made of a very hard material and dangerously close to his eyes.
This one is lightweight, adjustable and made of a nice soft material.
He didn’t seem to mind me putting this one on him, I had to take it off a few times to adjust it but found it easy to get it just the right fit. The thinner mesh side goes on the top and the adjustable padded part goes under the chin.
Seems pretty good although he does shake his head around a bit trying to remove it he’s not too bad.
I don’t use a muzzle all the time, just when visiting families with toddler age children, I think it’s the right thing to do this even though I’m pretty sure he will be ok without, its best to be on the safe side.
I will be using this muzzle in preference to the cage type one as I’m sure it will be more comfortable for him.
I bought the medium size, my dog is a 10.6Kg Patterdale terrier. If you measure your dog around his/her muzzle you should be able to find the correct size by looking at the chart.
