Everything it does sounds like a Volca Drum!
Brilliant fun, fast and intuitive and now so cheap for what it does. It gives similar products (like the Sonic Potions LXR02) a real run for its money. I see no reason to spend more.
However just like these similar products it has it’s own unique sound and flavour and this may ultimately be it’s downfall. There are great sounds ready to be created but in the end they all sound like a Volca Drum. For some reason there is just a limited colour pallet at hand.
I found programming via the front panel a pain after about 30 mins and it was much easier via the editor program which really opened it up (there are two available). It made progamming a breeze and you could store all your sounds and kits instantly to computer.
I preferred using the editor for the full experience and this finally made me decide not to keep the Volca Drum because I felt that I might as well go for a vst if I’m tied to the computer again.
I enjoyed it for the few hours I had it (there were a few bugs but I didn’t update the firmware) it was very immediate but unfortunetly so was the boredom that set in.
Highly recommended if you want to tweak on the go and create edgier sounds. The sounds really PUNCH! It really is amazing for the price. Just not a keeper for me.
The best Volca
This one for me is the best and most fun in the Volca family. More than a drum machine it’s a six part synth with sequencer and the results can be surprising and totally new. If you are after the bog standard edm drum sounds get the Volca Beat, otherwise this one is the one to have.
This drummachine is more than a drummachine! It can make more than just drum sounds. Very portable and interesting unit. Wide range of sounds. Has built in speaker and can be battery operated. Very nice little drummachine!

This is a very fun little tool. It’s surprisingly intuitive and highly programmable. Can really get them 80-90’s dance type sounds. Early drum machine type stuff.
It’s not at all modern. If you’re looking for a stand-alone drum machine that will cover many styles, I would look elsewhere. If you’re looking to start a Depeche mode cover band, you might be okay.
Used in combination with the Korg NRS-1, Minilogue XD, Midal Skulpt SE, and the Keystep Pro. The Volca Drum is a perfect addition to many different setups.

Fun and useful! So much to still learn about it. It’s small but produces a big sound.

Ipnotico
Great for new percussion sounds
I have several Volcas, and this one is one of the best; the range of sounds available is excellent, and most are usable! I do wish Korg would make them easier to use with other equipment – you can trigger notes over Midi for instance but you have to stop the sequencer manually each time you start the master device or the Volca will do it’s own thing! Overall however, they are a reasonably priced, fun and easy way to expand your sound making, and I would highly recommend to beginners who fancy having a go at making electronic music. This machine can generate some excellent grooves/ rhythm tracks and is very tweakable (all Volcas are!). It has made such good sounds I have samples to put into my main drum machine to get around the problem above; you lose the live playability but is much easier in the studio. This may not be the best 1st drum machine (it could be, it depends what you want to do!), but is a worthwhile addition to any set up to add some variations/ fills etc. and help with ideas. Paired with the Volca Bass it could do your rhythm section.; then Volca Keys for chords, Volca FM for melody, chords or more bass, you may get hooked…..
First off, I absolutely love the Volca Drum, but it’s obviously not for everyone. Picked the Drum to accompany my first synth, my criteria were functionality and versatility. The Drum provides it in loads, with a fairly intuitive interface, but loses out in ease of access. You can go wild designing unique sounds for your kits, but it’s hard to create any kind of natural-sounding kit, and the saving kit/programs feature is very poorly integrated. Thick sounds and great value for the price, very recommended if you like playing around creating wild soundscapes.
Immense fun!
Way more entertaining that I was expecting. Capable of a lot more than just drum sounds, and with the wave guide effect you can jam away for ages with just this little box. I have a feeling this won’t be the last Volca I purchase.
great drum machine for making wacky sounds only problem is random button always seems to make a bad high pitch sound that can be fixed after and is great for exploring bass sounds are on point the memory in it is limited but my zoom h6 is not I mainly use this synth for recording samples of its sound for later usage in lmms

The best money I've spent for money gear (volca drum)
It’s really super easy to create a really rich percussion layer, sound editing capabilities – mind-blowing.
I recommend buying with adapter, don’t rely on batteries – cause there’re really no point for that, unless you really want super-portability.
Awesome sounds but very significant bug with MIDI
Amazing, completely original drum sounds but there is a known bug in the firmware which means you can only use MIDI if you tie up channels 1 to 6. The single channel mode has no effect. This is no problem if you use the sequencer or sync but if you intend to use MIDI, be prepared to have to reassign any synths that use channels 1 to 6.
I really like this digital drum machine however there are two things for me that kind of kill the mood. One. It only has one headphone jack so it loses a lot of points for versatility out to your mixer or audio interface and for the life of me I can’t understand one midi in yet you have six parts text each be played by a specific MIDI what good is that if you can only do MIDI in. I feel this is very much a set and forget style drum machine forget trying to make up tracks on the Fly because if you try to do randomize lair you’re in for an earful that is if you can still here afterwards 99% Ugg every time you hit randomize layer it gives you some awful noise that is too loud N2 high-pitched. All in all it’s not a bad device it just suffers from korg’s limitations to put limitations on your devices
This is exactly what I was looking for. There are a lot of reviews about the Drum some hate this box some love it. It is what it is – and its something pretty unique and can make some very interesting and new sounds. I haven’t been able to put it down and this volca unit’s workflow makes it easy to get lost in a percussion jam session.
Think of this synth not as a drum machine but a percussion synthesizer. Kicks, snares, toms etc it is not. Though you can certainly model a kick or a snare kit and then sequence it. You can model hitting sheet metal with a hammer or slapping a PVC sewer pipe with your hand with your head stuck in one end. Any sort of percussion sound you could imagine and then permutations thereof ad infinitum.
I love this instrument.
The most versatile and rhythmic device of its kind for its purpose. I have only played with it for just one day and I know it will bring many moments of great sound. The fact that it can be battery operated and has a built in speaker speaks for itself. MIDI in and headphones out will make it easily compatible for many sound systems. If you know what you know when you are synthesizing, this will give you unlimited options!

Ok, My Korg Volca drum may be 7 1/2″ x 4 1/2″, and has a limited sound, but don’t let this little box fool ya!!
You have 6 different drum parts you can play with this, but a pilifera of unlimited sounds.
You can tweak with the pitch, the amount, the attack, the rate, the release, the decay, the tune and the body.
You can also get sounds from load kit and load program.
Also, which ever you load, either the kit, or the program, you can clear everything and make it unique.
You might think it is limited as far as playing with the little key bed, but how about hooking up a midi keyboard to this baby and play it?
I forgot to mention that it has swing and sequence. Which you can tweak as well.
All in all, please do not sleep on this because it looks like a little box, the good news is it does look like a little box, and doesn’t take up much room, so I use it with my Korg Volca Fm.
I also use a plug because i’m on it for hours, and I then sample it into my DAW.
Gracias!
Excelent device. Easy to use and you could spend hours playing with it.

Much to explore!
Great product with many hidden features. Be sure to update with the latest filmware, allowing you to set pitch in the edit step mode (generating melodic sounds, and even basslines – kind of)
Great little drum machine. Had a PO-12 that I was using that felt a little rigid in its sequencing so I decided to find something else that had a midi in so I could use a more comprehensive sequencer. The Volca Drum sequencer ended up being far more usable than I thought it would be due to the ability to shape each and every sound in many ways plus the step jumping feature which will give you variety within a single pattern. The sounds are seemingly limitless when it comes to shaping. It was tough getting a really good snare sound at first but it also gave me the opportunity to explore the wide variety of sounds that the drum has to offer. I’ve had it about 2 months and I’m still learning the sounds and trying to utilize the sequencer to it’s full potential. Worth every penny this far.
I bought this as a gift for my 22 year old son who performs and writes music - he absolutely loves it! The sound, the quality and all of its options are amazing! FIVE STARS!!

Very powerful little machine
Clever little box that packs a lot of power into a small space. The user interface is similar to other Volcas but I found this one particularly easy to learn. The little screen is very useful and despite its size is very clear indeed. As with other Volcas the instructions are pretty minimal and maybe it’s best to watch some YouTube videos to understand how to use it. Anyway you can be up and running in no time at all and it really lends itself to improvisation with a sort of industrial/techno edge. The built-in patterns are very conventional and don’t really hint at what this box can do. The built-in effects processor is very interesting and adds a whole new dimension to the sounds you can get. The output is stereo and you can pan individual drums into different positions. Excellent value for money and very pleased I bought it.
This was a gift for my son. He loves and the size is perfect.

I suppose this device works on three levels. 1) Just play with the pre-loaded beats and kits and fiddle with knobs: its actually a lot of fun and even kids enjoy this. 2) spend an hour looking up tutorials (lots on youtube) to get a feel for what each control can do – and use it as a versatile drum synth. 3) Dig deep into understanding the fairly complex synth engine, rework the patches, download new patches and use this as an odd but versatile synthesizer.
This is not a straighforward drum machine – don’t buy it for that purpose. If you enjoy sound design and live noodling however, this might be the box for you.
Dovrebbero sistemare questo piccolo difetto secondo me.
It's not analog and I don't care. The VA/digital engine can handle a wide variety of synthetic drum and percussion sounds, and it sounds really great, for the price or otherwise. This and the Sample are my favorite Volcas to date.

1st one that was sent didn’t power on. The back would make a click and there would be a little light. But it wouldn’t actually boot up. Didn’t matter if it was wall power, batteries it came with… or nice energizer batteries.
A replacement was sent. Works great. Love it. This is my favorite Volca and favorite beat machine. It is raw fun. In seconds you can create classic or avante garde beats.
