This is such a fun take on Monopoly, it is different that the usual in more than one aspect. Not only is it based around travel but also you have cardboard money and stamps. The money is easily lost due to the size so they do have to be kept safe throughout the game.
It is a fun game to play, you can only play with four players. It does not last as long as the usual monopoly but you can put your own rules in to make it last a little longer. Even though the stamps are permanent this is taken to account on the instructions and it supports further game play.
It has everything you need. Except the carousel that holds the estate agents cards and the money dividers from the 1980s boxes. They were handy.
I bought this for my dad for Christmas and I’ve asked him if we can play it, he hesitated and squirmed, which means he likes it that much that the thought of opening an iconic gift like Marvel Monopoly, is just too much for him to bea
My 4 year old daughter absolutely loves this game. Fortunately not as painful as the original version.
Good fun for little ones.
Ordered for my son. He enjoys playing it. Easy for children to play.
Played this over Xmas with family, all enjoyed when we got going. I liked the fact that everything on the board is always in a state of flux. Basically in normal monopoly, if you are doing well that is, you build up a property portfolio, add buildings to charge more rent and make money. The nature of play in the Jurassic version this is always kept in a state of flux because you have a T-rex rampaging across the board and through your property. If it passes you, it costs you money, if it lands on your property it costs you money because being a T-rex it likes to smash things up. You have to build fences to preserve your property and maintain them as the T-rex moves round the board which of course costs money, therefore not allowing you to hoard money. We actually really enjoyed this as it became a great leveller rather than one player having a large property portfolio with hotels on Mayfair wiping you out every time you go round. The character pieces and dinosaur were really well made but it would have been good if say Lex was wearing her baseball cap because when you play in lower light conditions it is not obvious the difference between the two female character tokens (yes they look relatively different on the box right in front of you, but when you are looking down on them in ambient lighting not so much.) But otherwise thoroughly enjoyable.
We have had great fun with this version of Monopoly. The rules are so easy to understand for all the family, even my granddaughter aged 4 can play which is great. Very exciting and the rules make the game play a good length of time before they all get distracted. Love it, wished they had thought of this version when my children were young, would have played it all the time. Have bought a second one to take to the caravan for holidays <3
When I received this game, I was concerned that the box is square. My original Monopoly was in a rectangular box with a board that folded in half. I was concerned that the board would be reduced in size. It isn’t. It folds into four and it’s very neat.
This set is as near to the original that I’ve seen. Paper money, silver coloured playing pieces and quality cards. I prefer the original traditional game to the current trend for ‘themed’ sets. This is it. Should last for years.
Grand children were 5 and 7 and seem to enjoy it .The counters to put on your property were a bit flimsy .
The money notes were not very colourful.
My father in law lost an eye playing this game! Not because of the game, but because of his ruthless tactics and my short temper. My mother in law has disowned her own son, my wife has not spoken to me since Christmas evening and i’ve had to give all my presents back. So let this be a lesson to you… the brown properties may seem like a joke, but when one old man owns all three with hotels on each this game turns nasty pretty quickly!
I’ve always loved Monopoly, so when my little boy started showing an interest in board games I thought this would be a great way of teaching him the basics! It’s simplified down really nicely, and the way it is made simpler means the games don’t last as long as regular Monopoly so can hold little peoples’ attention long enough to play the whole thing! He seems to love playing as much as me, and even gets the Monopoly sass down to a T haha!
Our 5-year old granddaughter loves to play it with the whole family.
I bought this for xmas gift for my 4 year old daughter, she loves Peppa Pig. I used to love Monopoly and I have to say although the game is seriously simplified it still bares the basic monopoly rules, you buy peppa pig venues / properties and then players landing on them pay you rent. Jail becomes time-out and monopoly money became ‘M’, Chance cards are mixed bunch, my kids have learnt pretty quickly that 95% of these cards are great, so often want to land on them as they receive free cash or free properties.
The game itself… the board is thick and should last, even with my daughter liking to try to tear it down the fold creases, it seems to be lasting, the chance cards are of a decent thickness, the characters are also pretty cool, Peppa, George, Mum and Dad, small plastic characters you move around the board.
The only negative is the money (I know many have said, laminate it if you get the chance as it is very thin and after half a dozen plays it is already looking a little tatty.
My long term goal is to replace this in a couple of years with the real thing!
The game is quick which is what you need when kids are playing. Easy rules which are explained simply in the leaflet. Money is only in 1M so supports counting. Although my 2yr old loved throwing the dice but that’s about it.. 4 1/2yr old really enjoyed it and understood easily. Would def recommend.
Only improvement I would suggest is the tokens for purchasing property move about easily. May be a slot to hold them in would be better!?
Brought two of these games for my grandchildren. A 9 year old boy and a 9 year old girl in different houses. They had great fun playing with this game. Not only is it fun but helps with adding up using money and reading. Also about not always winning. A great game for all the family. Good value for the money. Very pleased with them
Bit of a tricky game takes a bit of working out but nice produc
This was a present for my 3 year old but we’ve all enjoyed playing it. It’s a great introduction to Monopoly without being overly confusing and he enjoyed the Peppa Pig characters though they don’t have eyes which is a bit creepy.
All round brilliant and we really enjoyed it.
This was a gift for my niece who loves Peppa Pig!! It is well packaged and easy to set up. This will definitely provide hours of fun!!
This game is great it is different to the normal monopoly games and it isn’t one that goes on for ever and ever. My children thoroughly enjoyed playing this together and we didn’t have the normal arguments whilst playing i
A nice twist on an old favourite, Jurassic Park Monopoly adds some interesting and exciting new elements to the game. The free roaming T-Rex causes damage to properties, while the infamous park gates let you know how much money you’re going to get for passing go. My one tiny critique is that the propery cards are quite small, but otherwise a fantastic gift for dino-lovers of all ages!
I like it when alternate versions of Monopoly add variances to the standard game, to add to replayability etc. However, this game is not Monopoly. Regardless of enjoyment, if you’re looking for a game like the original board game where you move around the board buying cute characters, furniture or collectibles, this is not it. That doesn’t mean it isn’t fun, but the ONLY thing that is the same as original Monopoly is there is a Go to Jail, Just Visiting and Free Parking spaces. You don’t even roll the same dice. There is a GO space, but it operates entirely differently to original Monopoly.
This would’ve been fine as a standalone board game without the Monopoly tag, and may have even allowed flexibility to try new things and make it more exciting. Perhaps the board could’ve been of an animal crossing island, each quarter being a different season (each side of the Monopoly board is one of the four seasons – brown & light blue is fall, for example) and a nice woodland style trail to represent the spaces you move would’ve been very cute to any AC fan.
You go around collecting one of the four collectibles in the game, one space for each season – fruit, insect, fossil, fish. Each time you roll the dice, you roll 1 normal six sided, and then one custom dice which represents a resource you can choose to sell at the end of your turn for bells. You can choose to hold on to these, however, as instead of Community Chests there are Nook Mile objectives, which like in New Horizons, will give you a task to fulfil such as giving four tokens (eg. Fruit) to the bank, in which case selling your resources straight away can be a bad idea – some will reward you for completing, others will penalise you for NOT completing. These are my favourite part of the game, as it adds a lot more purpose to playing.
When you pass GO, you can choose to spend your bells on decoration items (furniture players of New Horizons may recognise from the game). Each of these items, upon finishing the game, count towards your total Nook Miles, the currency to decide the winner. If you’re looking for alternate ways to play, you could try keeping a theme to your pretend house, and thus only allowing each player to buy furniture that would suit their theme. (My partner only bought furniture suitable for a winter cabin, whilst I focused on summer resort styles)
Overall I would say the game is far simpler (and also far more pleasant – if you get into family arguments in this ‘Monopoly’ I’d be very concerned) than the original. I’d say there’s probably quite a few house rules you can implement to make it more challenging, depending on the age range of players.
In terms of the packaging and presentation, however, I am less impressed, hence why the review isn’t 5*. The box was sealed by stick-down stickers over each edge, and on removing them peeled off the artwork and thus making the box look old and tatty. There are also hundreds of pieces, all of which need to be separated by each of the colour groups on the board. No easy task! Do yourself a favour and before playing the game, get some small bags, pots or anything you can get to separate the different colours. This should’ve already been provided as it’ll be an incredible chore to try and set up the game each time.
You also have to put stickers on the custom dice yourself, which felt unnecessary, and like something that could’ve been done for you. The stickers were again poor quality and we almost lost one to damage whilst trying to peel it, which would’ve of course greatly impacted the game.
Overall, this would be better suited without the Monopoly tag as it is entirely a different game, but is very fun nonetheless. My recommendation to all players is to consider inventing some house rules to add to the challenge (age depending) and definitely most certainly find a solution to separate all the coloured tiles. You’ll thank me for this if you do it from the off.
Classic Board Game now made simpler for children to play with ease great fun for all the family and keeps the Grandchildren off the Ipads or watching Netflix for an hour or so which is invaluable as you can’t put a price on family time.
From what I’ve seen I like this. I have tried the game out using 2 characters (both played by myself, leading to a few restarts, lol) You get 9 tokens – the 9 members of the fellowship (I could have done with the names of the hobbits, Boromir and Aragorn stamped into the bases, but that’s just a nit pick) Instead of chance (16) and Community Chest (16) you get 32 quest cards. Houses/Hotels are now Outposts/Forteesses respectively. Spaces are Middle Earth places, utilities are replaced by Blade and Hilt of Narsil and Morgul Blade, Sting, Bow and Staff replace the railroads. Ring Wraith (2M) and Gollum (1M) are the tax squares. A standard set up so far. The final components are the one ring; Neither metal nor real, lol; and the tracker. On the board are 1m, 2m, 4m, 8m, 16m and Mount Doom. The tracker goes on Start and the ring bearer and at the beginning of his turn, before the roll of the dice, the Ring Bearer moves the tracker onto the next square. Lose the ring by rolling a Saurons Eye (which replaces the 1 on the dice) and you pay the price you’re on and the tracker moves to the start again. Get it all the way to Mount Doom and the Ring Bearer pockets 15M and the game ends. As the Ring Bearer you don’t pay rent, go to jail (apart from getting a quest card that instructs you to) and if you keep the ring long enough you collect 4m instead of 2m for passing go. All in all it’s a fun game
I’m rubbish at it but my Family for some reason are excellent cheats I found out lol
We love this monopoly game, it’s very addicting and fun family and when my nephews and nieces come over it’s good fun game all around!
Love this version of monopoly! It’s quite complicated to understand so I’d recommend playing a dummie version whilst reading the instructions as we understood it a lot more that way!
I wouldn’t recommend playing with 2 players you need at least 3 players to get the full effect of this game. If there’s just two of us we don’t use the ring or the Eye as it ends the game quite quickly!
But it’s such a great game once you understand the rules properly I highly recommend this version!
I purchased this game to try and teach my 4 year old grandson his first game of Monopoly. It’s a lovely game, grandson loved the little animal figures and I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun with it in the future. At present his 4 year old mind will only concentrate for short periods but he did enjoy playing (in his own way) for a while until he got bored and was off doing something else.
As per some of the other reviews on here, the lack of tray was incredibly frustrating. I have had to put the playing pieces in sandwich bags in order to stop them going absolutely everywhere. Not good bearing in mind how much Monopoly’s cost! The game itself is great however and as a huge Jurassic Park fan I was chuffed when I got it. I love the twist with the T-Rex!
The only other negative is that the characters all look very similar so its not obvious who is who when you are playing (esp. if you are playing with people who are unfamiliar with the film/ characters).
There are lots of pieces in this game and it involves a lot of setting up.
It is quite complex and takes time to get used to, but after a few rounds of the board it starts to make more sense and is good fun.
We have played it with our 7 and 9 year old and they both enjoy it. A full game can take quite a long time though so don’t leave it too late in the day to start it!
The “properties” could have done with a bit more thought and design as they are all the same, but overall it’s a good game for Animal Crossing fans and worth persevering through the set up and getting your head around it!
This is so fun! I don’t normally like Monopoly, but got this for my boyfriend as he loves LOTR and its brilliant! Much more fun than normal Monopoly. The addition of the Ring makes it more competitive and the pieces and board are good quality. Would definitely recommend this.
A different take on monopoly with the interactive part with the hoop and ball. My sons, aged 10 and 5, loved it. It kept their interest more than any other version of monopoly we have.
All the children like playing it with mummy and daddy nice family game
Play this with my 3 & 5 year old and they both love itreally well designed as a simplified version of the original.
My Granddaughters (ages 4 and 5) love this game. Parents: this can replace time spent watching TV and helps the child to be more sociable, learn how to use rules, and learn things about what life has in store for them when the are older. Biggest the about Monopoly – it is fun! I grew up playing this game as a kid and continue to play it as an adult (70 years old!)
This was true to the spirit of Monopoly without too many complications. My granddaughter’s favourite board game at the moment!
Got this for my 5 year old to play with his 2 older siblings and they all love it. Its very simple to play and gives them a good introduction for the real game. Looks the part, smaller game board so a game doesn’t take as long, pieces are good and money looks good. Reasonable value for money.
I really enjoyed this. Less of an emphasis on buying properties and more on building your towers. Quite a few different strategies to use here. Potentially not great for younger children as there can be a lot going on towards the end of the game. Still a very good version and quite unique.
My 5 year old loves this game. It’s relatively short so more enjoyable than the actual monopoly!
Monopoly Junior is an ideal boardgame for younger players that encourages turn taking, counting and number recognition.
It comes with everything listed on the box, which are a playing board four character counters and their cards, Chance cards and Monopoly money.
I bought this once before for my 7 year old great niece who loved it so I bought it again for my 5 year old son. I like that the original Monopoly game has been simplified and you can play with only 2-4 players. It encourages my son to socialise and practise his number skills.
Couple of things for the manufacturers:
It would be great if there a sectioned plastic internal box to separate each pieces. Also the Jail section is still there, it should have been Time Out/ Detention instead so it’s child friendly. It would be great if the money and chance cards were not paper as they can be torn easily.
I bought this a while ago for my grandson aged 6, but only gave it to him today, as a reward for working hard at school. We played it with his parents and he loved it. In fact the adults preferred it to the adult version. The rules were easy to follow and clearly written. By the second game he could act as banker. It lasted long enough that he didn’t become bored as you finish when the first person goes bankrupt. A great buy.
Good go-to board game to play with 5 year old on a rainy day that doesn’t take so long to finish.
This is a great version of monopoly, and depending how your gaming fate goes it can be a quick game or a long one. We played this recently with friends and we all really enjoyed it – we ended up doing 4 games.
The extra challenge of trying to keep the ring and get to mount doom was clever as the ring can give you immunity to paying rent or going to jail etc. You can challenge people for the ring or it can be lost depending on the dice. There was also some sneaky secret quest cards that when revealed turned the game around and caused drama (lighthearted of course). I dont think we would play it with our boys as there may be tantrums lol.
Great gift for tolkien fans who like playing board games.
I have the other version of this game (from several years ago) and this is almost like a completely different game! Cards are used in different ways, and there is only one type (quest card) as opposed to two in the original, and most other monopoly games. The other main difference is that your token can wear the ring and it gives them perks – but can also be their downfall if they lose it after too many turns (can cost a lot of gold!)
As a huge Lord of the Rings fan, I had to get this! But I think that casual LotR fans and/or monopoly fans would also enjoy this!
Fun game but sometimes goes on a long time well made game
Brilliant
Brilliant version
Good fun and easy rules to follow
For you monopoly enthusiasts that don’t like to loose – this is for you – hilarious
V much recommend
Great game. Played it with our nearly 4 years old boy and he was able to follow instructions
Great classic game which is much easier to play than the full adult version.
My son adores it and insists on playing every evening before bedtime!
Some of the pieces feel a little flimsy, but it definitely has served it’s time!
Love it or hate it. Monopoly is the game that’s been destroying family’s for years and years. It’s a brutal game of attrition were the last player standing is champ.
We made a right afternoon out of one game taking four hours to play. We laughed and laughed. The quality is great. Make sure you hit the trap button every time you land on the square. We all ended up singing the song and clapping along.
One of the best versions I have played. highly recommend.
Really good game for both adults a d small children, good for teaching simple maths
My family love this game, it could cause some arguments though
Really good game. My little boy who is 4yrs loves it and very easy to follow.
Absolutely fantastic game, brought to play with my 4 year old he loves it, it’s really help his counting too
Good quality and my 6 year old grandsons first monopoly. He loves it and learnt within the first game. Just had to teach him tactics. He was being too nice to his Nanna. Think I’ll have to get the harder one soon. Lol.
Not for use whilst travelling but obviously can take it with you.
Brilliant twist on monoply for kids to play, my 4 year old daughter loves this
Great game my 5 year old loves playing it and so do we! Its fun and easy enough for younger children.
This is pitched just right for the young ones – its a good way to introduce monopoly, and actually the fact that it doesn’t go on and on makes it quite enjoyable for the whole family to play.
Bought this for my children for Christmas. Really easy for my 9 and 6 year old to understand the rules. Great family fun.
Fabulous game , lots of fun, teenagers loved it ..puts a great twist on monopoly anyone could wi
Excellent game. Fantastic with the kids and doesn’t take too long to play. We’ve had hours of fun with it.
Great game, and good take on the basic Monopoly. Game play is much quicker so suits us better, good fun. But my son still always wins.
Me and my partner love playing this! We are very competitive and the game can last over an hour with us both playing
Enjoyed this twist on the classic board game, kept everyone on their toes and made it much pacier.
Bought this as a Christmas present for my daughter. We enjoy playing together. Very easy to play for younger kids.
This game is brilliant my girls love it, myself and my husband love it too, great family game well packaged and clear instructions.
Lovely to have Monopoly suitable for younger children. My grandson is six and really loves it.
My six year old granddaughter has wanted to play this every day since receiving it for Xmas! Great for building strategy skills.
Perfect for my 6 year old daughter learning numbers and reading. My 3 test old also understands the game too with it being a simplified version of the original. They really enjoy playing it.
Perfect family weekend game. My 5yr old and 2 Yr old love playing it with the family. Perfect for original monopoly lovers to play with younger children. Definitely recommend.
This is a nice simple version of monopoly for first time players. Three people played and it took an hour for somebody to lose which I good. My child is 5 and he loved it and found it great. Definitely would buy of you are a monopoly fan and have children. The only downside is the money it is paper. Could do with being a wipeable material. And the money is all in 1s so I think they should have a separate pack of mixed 1s 2s 5s etc so children can learn whilst playing.
Great version of the game for younger children. Very easy to play and get the hang of quickly.
Great Christmas present, after dinner on boxing day nothing better than a good board game and this great version of a classic went down a trea
Really good spin on classic monopoly, much more fun play with friends and family was hit every time 🙂
I do admit the “quality” of the board game is not that great compare to older generation of monopoly, got the game for limited sale fat 10 so I won’t be one to complain.
Played this on Christmas day. The more you play it the more ways you find how to cheat.
Good version for younger ones my little lad loves playing this version even though he tries to cheat lol
Bought this as a gift for my 4 year old niece who enjoys board games. She was well entertained and played it. Arrived quickly and good condition.
THIS GAME TURNED OUT TO BE MY GRANDSON’S FAVOURITE GAME AND WAS WELL USED OVER AND PAST THE CHRISTMAS PERIOD.
Love this game, it makes you play tactically and have to be careful and aggressively at the same time.
It is a great addition to my Monopoly collection.
A gift for Christmas. We played it on Christmas day. Spent many hours on Christmas day with my grown kids playing it. Great choice
Great fun, bought for my 6 year old but good for an the family to play. Prefer this to normal monopoly which I find far too long
Brilliant twist on the original monopoly. Especially if you have little ones that like to cheat during board games – they can now be mischievous as part of the game!! And handcuffed if they get caught!
Great game, has us laughing for hours. Great for the person we all know cheats.
Didn’t use the handcuffs but the rest was fab
Got this monopoly for my 8year old son and he loves it. He likes the little figures and its a great game for them to lear to deal with money and understand the concept of spending money and savings.
I own 5 different monopolys. most just different countries or ones based off games. I do own the Mega edition with skyscrapers and more properties.
Im a little sad that all the properties on this board are the same ones but with numbers after them. You cant really see that in the picture on here. I guess thats why they make it blurry.
I understand the reason behind only having one die as to make it longer. The tokens couldve been better. just a rabbit and a turtle in silver or gold.
A little shocking the first thing the manual says is to rip your money in half as they dont provide enough money for the game.
But my main gripe and its a big one. who ever is the banker is going to have a terrible time. With every monopoly game ive ever owned there is a tray to put the different money notes in and a tray for all the property cards. this has none. So im either going to have to use another tray from another version or do without. I dont know if its supposed to come with a tray or not as some comments on here say theres bits missing.
Really good game my 8 and 6 year old love it as do the adults .as soon as the kids got their heads around the rules they were away hours of fu
Bought this for my granddaughter’s birthday. She loved it and it was enjoyed by all the family who joined in with the game.
4 and 7 year old children enjoyed this game. It is a simplified version of the adult game. I think that after a year, most children would want to move onto the adult version. Even after a few months I have supplemented the one pound denomination notes only with mixed denomination notes from ‘the pound shop’ as they enjoy sorting and counting the notes.
Brilliant game. We play with our 6 year old every day. Priceless!
Gets them off the TV and spending time with the family. Very fun game, clever use of tokens and easy money system. Perfect in preparation for the adult game in a few years.
My kids LOVE this game, and so do I! Mine are aged 5 and 7, they enjoy counting the money, and absolutely revel in it if I get sent to jail. Great fun!
This is great for family get togethers. The kids can join in and learn the basics, ready for the adult game in a few years time.
Growing up playing the original Monopoly I thought I get this to play with my kids. In short its just a scaled down version of the full game and great for kids as it much simpler and quicker to play unlike the full version which can last hours which kids would lose interest.
For kids great but other kids 9+ or adults stick with the original.
This is so much fun. We bought it to add to our games night selection for our 6 year old twins.
The game is similar enough in format to regular monopoly that it’s readying little ones for the big game in time.
So, the differences are –
The only money are 1 notes. So it’s much easier to manage buying property and paying rent etc as they only have 1s to count up.
When you land on a property, if it’s free you have to buy it. There’s no property cards, each player has little discs that match their playing piece, and those are what you place then on the property you own.
There’s no houses or hotels to buy to put on your property.
There are chance cards, and they’re largely good ones (a little too many good ones perhaps). They are things like ‘move ahead UP TO 5 spaces’ (therefore children have the possiblity and choice to avoid landing on someone else’s property and paying rent), a few ‘give this card to the Duck eg player and on their next go they can choose a property to buy’, and quite a few ‘move to a red or blue eg property and if it’s available get it for free’.
If you land on another players property you pay them rent which is the same price the player paid for it. If they own both properties for that colour then you have to pay them double rent.
The first person to go bankrupt signals the end of the game. Then whoever has the most money is the winner.
This means that the game ends a lot sooner than regular monopoly.
Which, when you’re playing with little ones can be a good thing! But of course, if you’re all enjoying then you just play again.
We’ve all had a lot of fun playing this game as a family and I’m really glad I bought it.
It’s very easy for children to understand the simple rules.
The numbers they’re dealing with, providing they can recognise numbers, are really low – at most the highest property to buy is 5, and the highest double rent to pay is 10, so as long as they can count up to ten they’ll be fine, and help with reading chance cards if need be too.
My six year old son loves this game! Wants to play it every day.
