Excellent battery operated lights. Only improvement I would like to see would be a timer that could extend the length of time the lights stay on.

For the price this security light is very good. It is bright and compact, it is discreet and doesn’t look out of place on my home. The batteries are lasting well and the motion sensor works well. The only problem is that is can be easily unclipped meaning that it can be removed by an intruder, I am not sure why but it should not be easy to be removed in my opinion.

I am very pleased with this. I’d be wanting one for ages and waited for a good deal to come before I got it. But now I got it I’d be happy to pay full price for it. Which I will do when I can afford it, for another part of my garden.
So I got this for my fence line at the front of my property on to the road, there are zero street lights in a rural area.
I’m very happy with how it detects, with a great field of detection, full 180 I’d say. I have it quite low down, about five foot off the ground. It also detects vehicles well.
I’m glad it is as bright as I wanted. I’m using rechargeable batteries and they work fine with it.
The build quality is great. I reckon it is extremely durable. The lamps move individually and have a good range of motion. Once placed in position they stay in position.
There are no buttons on this to alter the settings. For example the duration the light is illuminated, nor at what level of daylight to begin to detect motion. It begins working at dusk. A good level of low light where the illumination is useful.
Like others I am frustrated with how easy it is to take off the back plate. Don’t get me wrong it is on there secure. But I too have the security concern that someone could remove it. But I have secured a loop of metal and clasp around one of the lamp heads and then the other end of the wire having a loop and padlock to a secured metal loop. So there are ways of securing them of you’re a little bit inventive.
The colour I got is brown but it isn’t that brown. But it is still quite camouflaged against my fence.

    Extremely happy with this

Easy to install. Be careful where you mount it as the only way to adjust the sensor is to block part of it out with tape

The motion detection can work from about 40 yards, but is not completely consistent; sometimes a closer approach is necessary before it engages, even from exactly the same angle. But it always works, and has a satisfyingly wide angle that feels close to 180 (it isn’t, but the specs are accurate). The installation instructions are slightly misleading, and the screw heads slightly weak – probably best to use your own. As for the brightness, you won’t get any brighter for battery-powered lights. They aren’t about to wake the neighbours, but if what you need these for is to see where you’re going on a dark night, then they’re ideal.

Very well made and waterproof – flexible with the two lights, also to take the thing off the wall to recharge the batteries, you simply slide it off. A bit more expensive than others but worth it. The lights could be a little brighter for my needs but very sensitive sensors.

For security it was advisable to install this unit, benefit was not being wired into main voltage, just as good performance with easy fitting.

Works well to illuminate the drive to cover our two cars at night, even operates when next doors cat is about!!!!!!!

This item replaced an old Mr Beams light which I accidentally broke whilst trying to open the battery compartment (this had to be done in situ, you couldn’t just remove the item from the fixing). The old light otherwise was still working other than needing battery replacement about once or twice a year.
This light is for a dark area by the side of the house where we store the bins. With two, adjustable, LED panels I have adjusted the lighting to where we need it. Where the PIR faces cannot be adjusted other than by how you install the light. So, for my installation, to get the lights to come on I have to approach it bit more centrally to trigger the PIR. It’s not a problem, it probably reduces the false activations. The lighting itself is bright with good spread and great for when it’s dark, as it is for so many hours in winter.
A good feature of these lights is that the lighting unit unclips from the mounting bracket when you need to change the batteries. Less chance of me breaking the unit (like I did with my old Mr Beams light) when I change the batteries. Some reviews mention this might make it easy for the item to be stolen but it’s (theoretically) not that much of an issue for me due to its placement. Happy with the purchase.

This is the third Mr Beams we have bought. They are excellent especially if you have a long drive. They give great light and I was surprised someone said battery only lasted 6 mths. I would be delighted if mine last this long. They give me great security, great light, motion detected. I can not praise them too highly. Easy to put up and not noticeable. Best thing since sliced bread.

Very pleased with this product. I was a little concerned with how bright the lights would be given it’s battery powered but very pleasantly surprised. It lights to the bottom of our garden comfortably (around 12-15m).
Motion sensor is also good. One of the reasons we bought was for our small dog going in the garden at night and the light comes on as soon as he’s out of the back door.

Easy to install, good motion detection. Light is sufficient. Not waterproof, water got inside but the lights continued to come on
The only problem was that water got inside the motion detector, which reduced its effectiveness. But considering we have had it a couple of years not bad.

I have this one in my back garden just in case. It is a security measure for me.
I am also finding it good at illuminating the mammals passing through, cats, badgers and foxes.

Although the manufacturer says it is a bright light It is not a too bright which suits me. I don’t want my back garden lit up like a football pitch.

I also like that the sensors are only triggered when the movement is fairly close by so it does not go off all the time.
Also it goes off again fairly quickly.

It is a matter of what your needs are. This one suits me. Not too bright and not too easy to trigger.

I also like that it is battery powered and that you can direct each of the two light beams to face different directions.

This is a really good outdoor light and it exceeded my expectations in terms of how much it illuminates the area. The fact it’s battery powered is great for my needs and it makes me feel safer in my home as not only does it act as a deterrent, it gives me warning that someone (usually a cat) is outside. I also like how you can move each of the bulbs in different directions.

It would be nice if it had a bit more range in terms of the motion sensor, but for a battery powered light, under 40, I am really happy with it.

Update – had this light up for 2 months now and it’s still working great. It has been activated a lot by cats at night but there still seems to be plenty of juice in the batteries which is good!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought this to light up my drive when partner coming home. It’s more expensive here than their own website but I guess they jacking up slightly to cover Amazon margins and I needed next day.

The unit installs super easy – three screws in the base unit and just use a hammer drill for the wall.

Well built, chunky and does the job.

Some improvements needed though to get 5 stars.

1 – I had to install lower than I wanted, meaning it was within reach. Due to the way the mechanism works this means someone can just walk up, clip it off and remove it. It would have been perfect to have a hole in the unit between the main unit and base to just zip on a cable tie to deter opportunist theft, or a burglar just lifting it off. To fix this I drilled a small pilot hole through the main unit and the backing plate on the side and put a screw in – voila – no more ability to pull off.

2 – The lights are good, but not amazing. Part and parcel of being LED and the batter life needs. Good enough, not great.

3 – The motion detector is ok, but not as far reaching as needed for a longer drive. Again, good, not great.

All in though very happy – easy 4 stars, hopefully the design team read this and take the hint to include a zip tie hole.

I have bought a number of these lights in the past. Some have worked perfectly out of the box, others have have had issues including flashing on and off for no apparent reason.

I have recently discovered a manufacturers PIR detector “reset” routine which fixed the issues that I was having. I now do this every time I buy a new light, or if I have problems with one.

    RESET ROUTINE

Unscrew the back of the light and remove it. There is no need to remove the batteries.
In bright sunlight, replace the back and leave the light in bright sunlight for approximately 10 minutes
Put the light undisturbed in darkness for 10 minutes. I use the cupboard under the stairs.
After 10 minutes, remove the light and the PIR sensor should be reset.

Try it and see if this sorts out any problems that you might have with these lights. You may find that initially the light stays on but it will turn off after 5-10 minutes.

I think that its worth testing a new light in a darkened room before installation. That way if you have problems with the light you can be sure that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it. The issues that you have are therefore probably due to its siting.

If you are having problems with a light where it is constantly being activated look at the surroundings. It could be as simple as bushes moving about in the wind. One of my lights would randomly turn on and off due to its proximity to the boiler outlet flue. If you discover what the issue is one option is to use a strip of black insulation tape to mark off part of the PIR sensor nearest to the object that is randomly activating the light. The light will still work but will have a reduced range on one side.

Try it and see if it works!

They are easily removable – make sure you install them at a good height to prevent easy theft.
Battery powered – no wires for an alleyway install. Not activated often so expecting batteries to last a long time.
Activation – only works when dark.
Activation distance – described as 30ft (9meters) but it seems to be around 6 meters.
Light output – not bad for a dark alleyway. Good coverage.

Simple to Mount and work as described. I wouldn’t describe them as security as they lack that GLARE but are effective so far for providing lighting for accessing a dark yard I’d say that for this purpose they are good. We have lots of Mr Beams lights in our house, both indoors and outdoors, as we have found them to be reliable and easy to install, and we have even fitted them at my elderly mother in laws house too.

They are all battery powered, which for us is a perfect solution as we can install them easily ourselves, on the wall, soffit or fence post, and there is no wiring to worry about. The batteries last well too. We tend to change the batteries in the outside lights about once every 6 months or so (the lights are mostly in areas of moderate use with about 10-15 activations per day).

This particular light is the brightest and best one we have. It’s extremely good for illuminating the driveway and front garden. And because the two light pods can be angled where you want them, they can point away from each other slightly to cover a pretty big area.

The motion sensor triggers the light every time someone walks past the driveway, at a distance of around 5 metres. It’s very helpful as a tool for providing additional light in the area where our security camera faces too, so the images we get on the camera recordings are clearer than ever, even at night.

    5 stars.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersHaving suffered an unlit side path and gate since moving to my home a few years ago, making putting the bins out in the winter rather hazardous, I was very happy to try this product.

Firstly, installation was straightforward (so long as you’re happy drilling into brickwork or similar). Three holes drilled (using the mounting backplate as a template), three rawlplugs inserted, and you then screw the backplate in place. The light unit then slots on to this backplate and clips in place. Depending on where you’re mounting this, one thing to note is that removal of the light unit is simply the reverse (you can see the clip protruding at the bottom of the unit, but you have to slide it upwards to remove it from the mount), so if it was within reach anyone could simply take it down without any tools.

The unit is battery powered (no electrician costs required to install, yay!) but I was surprised to find it takes 4 of the large D-cell batteries and had to go buy some specially (I don’t remember the last device I had which required these!). I guess that beats the effort of having to change AA batteries more often. The batteries are installed in a weather-proof compartment with four screws you must ensure are tight to keep the rain out.

Once installed, I waited for it to get dark and was slightly nervous about how the motion sensor and light spread would work in the chosen location on the wall since you obviously can’t test it until it’s actually mounted. I was pleased to find that the motion sensor is nicely sensitive with a good range and wide view and the light would ping on the second I rounded the corner of the house before crashing into bins or children’s toys.

The light output is perfectly respective for what it is and was ideal for my needs, allowing me to see where I was going and also adding an element of security should anyone decide to vault our back gate to get in the back of the garden and head for the garage door. It might not compete with wired floodlights but you can clearly see the stated 500lm output stated in the description and compare it to other products to decide upon your needs and priorities. The two lights pivot so you can rotate and twist them which is really useful to point them round a corner or simply in two different directions as I have done (one aimed at the back gate down the side of the house, one at the back garage door).

I was slightly concerned with the 20 second fixed shut off timer and perhaps would have liked the option of choosing a little longer, but I guess that would kill the batteries that much quicker and this is a compromise. As it turns out (and should have seen this in the description) the 20 seconds only commences once motion is no longer detected (had been worried it would start as soon as it detected me) so it isn’t a problem in practice.

So it works well, but two questions remain which I’m not yet completely in a position to answer – how long do the batteries last, and how well does it stand up to bad weather? Mine has been installed for a few weeks now and is still working as well as the day I fitted it, despite some very heavy rain in that period. With the first of the cold nasty weather moving in as we speak (3C max today and sleeting) the real test will be how well it lasts the winter. Watch this space…

Works well so far, but the winter test is coming..

An excellent battery powered motion detector security light. The motion detector had a good range and is fairly sensitive.

The twin lights generate a decent amount of light. As each is independently adjustable this allows light to directed in two different directions. This one is set to illuminate a doorway and s flight of external stairs.

Very easy to fit. Screw the backplate into the desired position and then the light unit slips on to it.

    Inexpensive and practical solutio

This battery powered security light has two positionable single LED lights offering a total of 500 lumens of light from four D cell batteries (not supplied). As a security light it doesn’t offer enough “dazzling light” to act as much of a deterrent. It’s a functional and useful amount of light though, decent enough to guide me down the side of the house to my shed. The motion sensor picks you up at about ten strides from the light and turns the light on for 20 seconds. It was easy enough to fit with a removable mounting plate, three screws and rawlplugs all supplied. I’ve positioned it on a corner so that I can illuminate two sides of the house. but you could point them both in the same direction for extra brightness.

If you just want something to light up a dark outside area of your property whilst you gain access – a back door, shed or garage – it’s plenty bright enough and there’s the convenience of not having to worry about mains wiring – it’s a simple as putting up a picture. Like other similar battery powered lights that I’ve tried though, it’s not going to deliver that same level of dazzling light that you get from a mains security light.

I have used these Mr Beams lights previously and have always been impressed. They can really be a boon when you need light where the sun don’t shine and you don’t have electric. My only annoyance is that you need quite a bit of clearance above the light to slide it on the bracket once fitted. – I wanted it on a barge board under the guttering and ended up pre-fitting the light on bracket – and then only fitting the lower two screws.

It seems to be holding, but means I will have to take the whole thing off when changing batteries. I know from experience that these can last a year. I also knot to use cheap batteries – I have previous experience of them leaking and ruining the whole light.

I’ve got a few other Mr Beams products around the house and garden and I have found them to be both well designed and useful. This LED security spotlight is well up to the brand’s usual standard, and the duel-head design makes it very flexible and easy to adjust when in use. It features a weatherproof housing, making it perfect for outdoor locations, and it is rated at 500 Lumens — 250 from each head — so is bright enough to see clearly where there is no other light source. This light takes 4 D size batteries, which are not provided, and it can be permanently mounted using the included screws. This light could also be used indoors if required, but it is really designed for all-weather use outside and it works as it should after it gets dark. Well designed and practical this battery-powered motion-sensing spotlight makes a good addition to my collection of Mr Beams products and is recommended to anyone needing a powerful battery-operated spotlight with the motion sensing feature. Currently around forty pounds from Amazon this wireless light provides an easy solution to lighting an area where mains power is not available — and is a much cheaper option than employing an electrician to come and fit a mains powered unit for you. Bright enough for illuminating quite a reasonable distance, but with the ongoing running cost of replacement batteries, this LED light is decent value at the current price – although some may prefer a solar-powered model for convenience and cost-effectiveness; five stars for value and performance.

Always good quality Mr Beams, and this product is no different. Easy to install, battery operated, very powerful light, with good motion sensor range. Given the expected battery life, excellent value, and perfect for installing outside back doors, or carports/garages etc.

This product is even better than most, as although it is slightly more expensive than the single fixed lights, what you get is a dual light flexible system which allows you to change both ranges of motion in the lights. So could light multiple areas of a car port dependent on direction without triggering the other light, or two areas of the house by mounting on a corner.

Although I prefer solar lights, there are times when the light needs to be placed where the solar panels cannot get charged. I have installed this under a canopy so my only alternative was an electrically powered light. Easy to install, you screw the backplate to the wall using 3 screws. The light takes 4 x D batteries which are put in the back. I like the way you can unscrew the back cover and the screws stay on the cover itself. Once installed, the light just clips over the wall mounted bracket. The lights can be independently swivelled and angled. I have one facing straight down and the other towards the path. The light is bright and shines out well. The sensor picks me up as soon as I step out the door and illuminates the area intended. After about 20 seconds of not detecting movement, the light goes out. A great light.

The only drawback is that the light can easily be removed from the back plate, there is no lock. This can easily be removed by anyone, so best to put it away from public view.

Very easy to install and adjust so that it lights the dark spots, in this case a passage between houses.
Brilliant white light acts as both a deterent to possible undesired animals and people while lighting the area for your own safety.
The unit clips into place and is easy to detach to change batteries, however this is also a fault if not placed aout of reach, it is work wedging the clip in place with a small screw, thus entailing the use of a tool to detatch the unit from the base plate.

We have bought a few of these over the years both for ourselves and for the family. They are all similarly made — not very attractive, but strong black plastic, well-constructed to be fully weatherproof and long-lasting. They come without batteries, so you need to buy three x U2 cells (the big ones). These are pricey, but our own experience suggests that they last a very long time indeed. The bulbs are very bright for a battery-operated device and the lights are genuinely easy to fix just about anywhere. I would certainly recommend them.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersIt took me around two minutes to fit this light into a dark corner of our garden using a pilot drill and screwdriver. The movement sensor more than covers our garden and the lights are bright enough across the whole of the area.

We love Mr Beams lights and have 6 units around our house now lighting up the whole outside. As long as you buy a decent brand of battery then they do indeed last around a year as the manufacturer claims.

Very easy to fit. Really bright motion sensor light.

This is of the high standard expected of Mr Beams, with robust plastics and good seal against water to protect the 4 D-cell batteries. The 500 lumens LEDs are bright without being blinding with tilt and swivel adjustment to maximise coverage.

Sensitivity and duration cannot be adjusted but are set sensibly, without a 2nd trigger the LEDs stay on for 20 seconds.

The LED reflectors are simple silvered cones with plain plastic covers, some more attention diffusing the light would be welcome. Also, the unit simply drops into the mounting bracket should be mounted out of reach, otherwise it can easily be removed. Putting on a 2m fence etc. isn’t much use, it must be on the side of a house, reachable only be ladder.

Much simpler to install than a mains-powered PIR flood-light, recommended!

I’ve had a few of Mr Beams single lights in the past but this double unit does seem to be of a better build quality and is much brighter.

Fitting is nice and simple as it’s simply 3 screws which come supplied with rawl plugs so only a 5 minute job and once the base plate is fitted the lighting unit simply slides on.

The sensor can’t be adjusted which is a bit of a pain as it starts coming on the second it gets even a bit overcast.

Also, it takes D Cell batteries which are quite pricey and not available everywhere so depending on how long these last it may turn out fairly expensive to keep it running but that remains to be seen.

If wired lights aren’t an option then I don’t think you can really go wrong with these though.

This is my 3rd Mr Beams light. the other 2 are the spot light types which have been on the side of the house for over 2 years now. The battery life is great. This has a much better designed tilt and swivel on each lamp whcih are fully rotatable so it can be miunted more or less on a corner. It is quite a small unit but is very bright. You pay for what you get. I hope this lasts as long as my other Mr Beams.

I am not a fan of Mr Beams products, having purchased a few over the years and found them to either not be water-tight |(they say they are, then state that you have to protect them from the elements) and in that regard, I have been forced to install them under the eaves of our house, or outbuildings.

This item however, seems to buck the trend, indeed this item has what appears to be quite an effective seal against the elements, reinforced by possessing 4 screws; one per corner of the element of the unit which holds the batteries – applying equal pressure to hold the seal tightly in place: I am impressed.

So how effective is the item? Actually very effective, the two independently adjustable LED lights allow adjustment of the beams to cover a wide area. In our case, we have a very wide driveway; sufficient to fit 4 cars across and 3 deep. I have installed the unit towards the apex of the garage (3 metres up) and the light provides sufficient illumination for the whole area.

On arrival, there is a comprehensive set of instructions, which are easy to follow.

+ Insert 4 D type batteries (please use alkaline if you want a winter out of a single set).
+ Position the mounting plate where you require the lamp to be installed and secure it with the three supplied screws (raw plugs also supplied).
+ Attach the main unit by sliding and locking it onto the mounting plate and wait for it to get dark.

There are no adjustments to alter the movement detection, or length of time the lights are activated, however, 20 seconds are sufficient for us and either entering the drive in a car or on foot activate the PIR and switches on the light.

The lights as previously mentioned are quite powerful, not as effective as a mains powered unit, but ideal for those areas where you want light, but don’t want to hard wire mains electricity to power it – the range of adjustment available renders this light extremely flexible in terms of its application too.

In summary then, well made, water proof, providing a very effective, simple to install source of light, which can be adjusted. The composite material should last for a long time and providing that the batteries last, it is worth a very full 5 stars, particularly when priced at less than 40.00(even better if available as part of an Amazon deal).

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersEasily bright enough for most peoples needs I’d say. Can’t comment on battery life as yet.

The only negative point is how the light unit attaches to the bracket. There is no way to fix it securely. And by that I mean, someone could easily come along and remove it because there is no way to lock the unit to the bracket. It needs a design change to correct this flaw.

Great for lighting a driveway that has space for one car. Not too sensitive, as passing traffic or my trees/hedge/bushes don’t set it off when they move in the breeze.

    Very bright lights.
