Easy to fit and set up. Robust and good features.
I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to set this camera up. They use a QR code on the security camera to make it easy to connect it to your account inside the app.
Sorting out which or how to get the right deal for my needs say 24/7 viewing costs etc
Excellent quality for the price. Easy to install and use with the downloadable app
It came today it’s now working out side. My house
This is my first security camera & it’s brilliant & I will certainly be adding more
Really pleased with this camera I recently got a summer house and put tv and other electrics inside so wanted something to keep a watch on it when I’m not in or on a night this camera is great really good picture day and night I just use a sd card haven’t tried the cloud but I have had it up over two weeks and not had any issues it’s rained and been windy and worked well in both of definitely recommended
The camera does exactly what we want it to, we have it screwed onto the outside of the house to keep an eye on the car. The app works well for the motion detection and on demand viewing and our echo show can even show the camera view on request 🙂
This is my fourth camera I live in the middle of nowhere I feel so much better with these cameras they are absolutely brilliant while on holiday last week I was able to check on a delivery to the house and able to talk to the delivery driver very easy to fix and just had a very slight problem with the recording spoke to Rachel at Tech support all is sorted out! cannot recommend these cameras and the company more
Works great for my back garden, motion detection works great as intended
Good picture quality and easy to setup. Excellent buy in this price range. Camera gives good night vision. The camera requires 2.4 g wifi connection to setup.
Very easy to set up. Really clear picture day and night viewable on my phone. This was a great camera at a great price.
Set up I minutes, good picture sturdy build, recommended and good value for money
Good quality picture and video was easy to set up overall very happy with my purchase
This is my second Netvue camera, I also have the Orb baby monitor.
To be honest, for the price, the Vigil 2 outdoor security camera cannot be beaten.
From the outset setting up was simplicity itself following the app instructions makes setup a doddle. Very clear and concise.
Good camera mounting facility makes attaching to a wall easy, no end of adjustment for that perfectly framed picture.
I am especially impressed with the night time view. Good quality picture even in near pitch black conditions. Motion alerts are useful too if you happen to be away from home.
The power lead is very long, long enough for me to connect up without using extra plug boards.
I used the wifi connection so I cannot comment on the ethernet connection.
All in all a great purchase, buy one, you will not be disappointed.
Absolute bargain for a camera of such quality. Definately getting your moneys worth with this purchase
I’ve now got 6 Netvue Cameras, 4 x Vigil, 1 X Vigil2 & 1 Orb Cam Mini. I’m very impressed by the quality of both the build and the picture these cameras provide in both night & day, they are feature rich and well worth buying, I highly recommend them.
I’ve got a SanDisk 128GB MicroSD card in them all and that allows over 2 weeks of continuous footage.
For the money it’s excellent.
Vigil 2 seems more stable than the first Vigil especially using SD Card to view past footage.
Motion detection works ok. Playback of recordings could be better.
Got this camera to keep an eye on my driveway and cars parked in it.
Build quality feels good for the price. Most parts are plastic, but the bracket is metal.
The bracket allows lots of options for mounting. There is a handy sticker provided to help drill the holes.
The image during the day is clear, and the night vision is good too.
The unit appears to be well sealed to withstand moisture outside. There is a seal to place over an ethernet cable should you choose to use one. The power cable has a plastic/rubber seal ring to prevent moisture entering.
The memory card slot can be accessed through a hatch on the bottom by unscrewing 4 small screws. It may be challenging to access if the camera is mounted up high, but obviously you would only need to do this if you weren’t able to find the footage you wanted via the Netvue app and specifically wanted to view the footage using the Netvue Player on a computer.
Motion detection is quite good, and sends alerts in the app. It seems better at picking up vehicles and vehicle lights than people, but it is unlikely that where I have it pointed now, it will pick up many people.
Video files are recorded in a proprietary Netvue file format (.nvt) and appear to be 2 minutes long. It would be more useful if the file format was a more common format like .avi, but this is a minor inconvenience.
I have the Netvue Orb Mini camera too and the image quality of the Vigil 2 is sharper. The antennae appear to help with picking up decent WiFi signal, again better than the Orb Mini, which has no external antenna, but is of course an indoor camera.
For the price, this is good budget option.
The Netvue Vigil 2 is a great little security camera…
It has 2 antennae on the side which can be rotated to point towards your router(s) and helps with WiFi connectivity (though that was never really an issue for us even with the vigil 1 camera which had 1 antenna). There’s also an ethernet port which is useful if you have the ability to run cable to the camera which will obviously provide a more stable connection.
The camera itself has a plastic housing, which is thick and solid enough to withstand different weather conditions, and there are 8 infrared lights around the lens providing excellent night-time visibility (albeit night vision is always in black & white as you’d expect). The picture quality is great, particularly during the day when everything is in full colour and you can zoom in to see more detail. At 1080p it’s a pretty clear picture, but don’t be expecting to zoom right in to someone’s face from the roof – it’ll lose some clarity – but for me it does the job. The picture quality seems slightly better than the Vigil 1 with some noticable difference in colour vibrancy and quality when zoomed in (though it does take a little while to render when you do that). The audio is clear too, and two way comms is a useful feature – especially if you use the camera near the front door (though there is a slight lag).
It’s great to set motion alerts, though I get loads through the night when bugs fly past… I’ve had to set up quiet times to prevent Alexa waking everyone up with “motion detected in the garden” whenever there’s a moth. The alerts in the mobile app are good though, you receive a screenshot which you can review and then decide if you need to look at the camera. You can set this up easily within the app with no extra storage needed, but if you want to keep footage to be able to watch it back etc then you will probably want a cloud subscription. The prices for this vary but are reasonable, and sometimes there are offers on making this very appealing. There is an internal micro SD card slot inside the camera (behind a small panel held on with 4 small screws) which enables continuous recording for as long as the card capacity allows (after which time it overwrites the older footage); this is a good alternative to the cloud subscription for storage, though not as functional as you won’t get human detection and motion-activated recording etc. It will just record constantly, but the footage is accessible over the internet via the netvue app which is good.
The camera is very easy to set up, simply open the netvue app and scan the QR code on the device and follow the instructions… If you are using a WiFi connection and mounting the camera somewhere high up, ensure you configure this before installing the camera as you do need to show a QR code back to the camera at some point to provide the WiFi login credentials… I made this mistake with my Vigil 1 and had to get the ladders back out to get it connected!
I have become a fan of netvue cameras through my experience with them. They work really well with the Amazon Echo and we’re now onto our third one – including a netvue home we use as a baby monitor. We will be buying more to cover the rest of our property.
Amazing cameras!!! I love how easy it is to check them from my phone. I brought this one to cover a blind spot I had and it is perfect. Easy to set up. I would buy from again, again and again from Netvue!!!
I purchased this camera as a Christmas gift for an elderly friend who was concerned about security after a spate of house burglaries in her neighbourhood.
Initially, I was somewhat disappointed that the whole camera housing and bracket construction material is plastic, as was expecting this to be metal. However, the criminally cheap price and excellent picture quality more than makes up for this. Whilst plastic, it remains a solid looking and feeling camera and the material used seems strong, and although its early days yet, appears to be hard wearing and up to the task of withstanding the outdoor elements. As far as the price and trade-offs go, I would rather a plastic housing than a compromise on the electronics and picture quality or functionality. Here the camera doesn’t disappoint. The images are crips and clear, and although I have not seen it at night (installed it at my friends house during the day), she has been signing its praises when it comes to the night vision and overall picture quality and clarity.
The set-up couldn’t be easier! The camera is mounted on an exterior wall, with her wifi router located in a room that shares the same exterior wall, so I cant really say what the wifi range and reception is like due to the close unhindered proximity of router to camera with her set-up.
Functionality with Alexa is excellent with even motion alerts catered for, far more than any other third party non amazon cameras Ive seen. The Alexa skill is easy to set up, however it could be more user friendly with very specifically worded commands needed before it will do what you want it to. Buffering lags could be better too, but this may he down to amazon or my friends ISP speeds.
Personally, as a home automation enthusiast, with almost everything in my house being IOT, I would find the lack having a menu option with advanced or expert user configuration options (network authentication, images settings etc) frustrating. Thats not to say its not a great camera. It does what it needs to and does a good job of it too.
I like that the camera can record to an SD card as I personally loathe the subscription culture. It is rather deceptively advertised as having AI smart human detection capability (avoids false motion alarm triggers for subjects such as foxes, trees moving in the wind), when in fact this facility is only available through a monthly subscription. My Eziviz cameras has this algorithm on the camera itself without the need for any subscriptions.
Overall, its a great camera at a bargain price. You get more than your moneys worth and it is an excellent entry level camera for someone just starting off a home security/automation project, or as in my friends case, just for peace of mind.
Installation and wifi connection was easy and quick to do. The app is easy to use and navigate and has great options to use from. the picture quality is good for night and day. Would highly recommend.
