Great little camera
Easy to fit and set up. Robust and good features.
Easiest setup of a camera so fa
I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to set this camera up. They use a QR code on the security camera to make it easy to connect it to your account inside the app.
For the price great camera works really well on Wifi
Sorting out which or how to get the right deal for my needs say 24/7 viewing costs etc
Excellent value for money
I bought two of these as a trial and wasn’t expecting much given their low price but I can honestly say they are absolutely superb. The app used for managing the devices is very clear and professional albeit a little bit ‘selly’ at first (everything is geared towards the US as well which is a tad annoying but also interesting to see what else can be added to the ecosystem).
The cameras are a little bit boxy and have two wifi antenna that does make them look a bit fisher price, and when popping a micro SD card inside to enable local recording there’s a lot of unused space inside. Make sure you use a decent SD card too, as it often failed after a short while on a number of generics I first tried. a 256Gb should give you a week’s worth of 24/7 recorded being overwritten as it goes.
One thing that did amaze me is that it records local audio as well and has proven to be handy at least once already. Even better is that within the app when viewing in real time you can touch a mic icon and talk back to the camera – quite loudly! These units are complimenting my main CCTV install which is now monitoring and recording the main areas around the house, these devices are doing the outbuildings where I have extended the home wifi but were too far out to talk to the closed loop wifi in the existing CCTV unit.
They have Alexa integration but not Google Home which is annoying as I’ve also just started to build that up too. You can set up motion detection which is quite sensitive and sends an alert to your mobile when triggered. This can be customised in the app
Overall quality of product for the price paid is extremely good. I’m tempted to build one camera into our post box for some covert doorstep monitoring and comms if needed. A great product for home security.
Great quality at a low price.
Excellent quality for the price. Easy to install and use with the downloadable app
It works grea
It came today it’s now working out side. My house
Works very well
Works really good and cheap for the monthly prescription, the only thing is that it pick up on everything flys and rain but you can pay little more too stop that and choose what you’d like it too set to . Recommended defo
Vigil 2
This is my first security camera & it’s brilliant & I will certainly be adding more
Really pleased
Really pleased with this camera I recently got a summer house and put tv and other electrics inside so wanted something to keep a watch on it when I’m not in or on a night this camera is great really good picture day and night I just use a sd card haven’t tried the cloud but I have had it up over two weeks and not had any issues it’s rained and been windy and worked well in both of definitely recommended
Easy to setup and use
The camera does exactly what we want it to, we have it screwed onto the outside of the house to keep an eye on the car. The app works well for the motion detection and on demand viewing and our echo show can even show the camera view on request 🙂
My fourth unit. Cannot believe how good these are.
This is my fourth camera I live in the middle of nowhere I feel so much better with these cameras they are absolutely brilliant while on holiday last week I was able to check on a delivery to the house and able to talk to the delivery driver very easy to fix and just had a very slight problem with the recording spoke to Rachel at Tech support all is sorted out! cannot recommend these cameras and the company more
Works great for my back garde
Works great for my back garden, motion detection works great as intended
Good camera in low price
Good picture quality and easy to setup. Excellent buy in this price range. Camera gives good night vision. The camera requires 2.4 g wifi connection to setup.
I bought this as a security camera but the added bonus is the stunning bird photos. I have two of these and this one is in the garage and has no problems getting the WiFi signal. It’s been secured at the top of the roof and I’ve not needed to access the SD card as I can download the photos from the playback which is great. I have the sensitivity low but it still captures any passing vehicles which is about 60 foot away. I bought a wildlife camera but had to send it back. I think this works just as well.
Great camera at a very reasonable price. Installation and set up was very easy. WiFi connection is very steady. Using 64gb SD card which provides about 2 weeks of storage before it overwrites. Day and night vision is excellent. We installed our cameras for security reasons. As you can see it caught two low lives trying car doors down our street. Unfortunately my neighbour had left hers open. Luckily there was nothing they wanted inside the car. The only thing Im not too keen on are the leads that hang from the bottom. All in all a great camera though
Brilliant cameras
Brilliant cameras. Do everything they say they do and really good quality. We had a problem with ours and netvue were really good with communication and sorted us out a new one straight away. Will probally buy a few more in the future
Worth every penny
It’s perfect for the security around the house
It was easy to install and the picture quality is brilliant I’ve got it connected to two iPhones and the fact that it’s WI FI means it’s easier to store images on a micro card with no trailing wires I have recently purchased a second unit for the rear of my house my only problem with false alerts are bats flying around at nigh
Great quality and low price
Very easy to set up. Really clear picture day and night viewable on my phone. This was a great camera at a great price.
Top Quality Camera
Honestly one of the best outdoor camera’s I’ve owned. The quality of the recording was much better than I imagined and was clear despite the weather. I put this camera out on my driveway and it blends in with my Floodlight. Would definitely recommend!
Excellent and Easy to install and use
Excellent camera, does exactly as its supposed to. Easy to install off WiFi, screws are a little difficult to get into the wall but once in, your set up and ready to use. All you need is the app and scan the qr code and fully set up. Highly recommended. Have already purchased one more for the front of the house.
Great camera
Set up I minutes, good picture sturdy build, recommended and good value for money
Excellent little camera. Does exactly what it says, usually when setting up I get a bit muddled due to having Parkinson’s . But this was ok to set up. It is a great picture for the price, and I’m very pleased with it. Highly recommend.used above our porch door to view one side of garden, the other side covered allready with a 360 degree camera. All covered now !
Excellent security camera
Good quality picture and video was easy to set up overall very happy with my purchase
I can’t believe the quality of this for just over 20. It has night vision, motion detection and the installation procedure using the QR code is as easy as I’ve experienced. I’ve got mine watching over the garden bar, the only minor niggle is that the transformer power supply is on the chunky side to get into a closed outdoor socket, but literally, that’s a small price to pay!
I received this camera and as has been mentioned by previous reviewers, it is plastic but robust.
Sadly I had a problem with it shortly after setting it up. I was not put off by this, but when I tried to get a replacement, there was no option for me to get one, just a refund. If there had been an option to have it replaced, I would have.
Even though I cant give a detailed review of this item, what I did see of the quality of the image, the easy setup, I would definitely be ordering it again or maybe go the whole hog and get the Pro. I didnt get a chance to try out the night vision but I have the Netvue Orb and if the Vigil 2 is as good, then its good.
This is my second Netvue camera, I also have the Orb baby monitor.
To be honest, for the price, the Vigil 2 outdoor security camera cannot be beaten.
From the outset setting up was simplicity itself following the app instructions makes setup a doddle. Very clear and concise.
Good camera mounting facility makes attaching to a wall easy, no end of adjustment for that perfectly framed picture.
I am especially impressed with the night time view. Good quality picture even in near pitch black conditions. Motion alerts are useful too if you happen to be away from home.
The power lead is very long, long enough for me to connect up without using extra plug boards.
I used the wifi connection so I cannot comment on the ethernet connection.
All in all a great purchase, buy one, you will not be disappointed.
Cheap camera high quality
Absolute bargain for a camera of such quality. Definately getting your moneys worth with this purchase
I’ve now got 6 Netvue Cameras, 4 x Vigil, 1 X Vigil2 & 1 Orb Cam Mini. I’m very impressed by the quality of both the build and the picture these cameras provide in both night & day, they are feature rich and well worth buying, I highly recommend them.
I’ve got a SanDisk 128GB MicroSD card in them all and that allows over 2 weeks of continuous footage.
Added another Netvue camera to the network, this one the Vigil 2. Bought Netvue as I have 2 Netvue doorbells and 2 Netvue indoor cameras and all do the job very well. The Vigil 2 is easy to add to network, simply scan QR code on the camera with phone, this generates a QR code on mobile phone screen that you scan with the Vigil 2, wait for music then it’s added. Installation of camera very easy, 3 screws for mounting bracket, using supplied template. Connect power jack to 1 of 3 leads at back of camera, also a connector to hardwire rj45 Internet connection if required and a WiFi reset button. I used a weatherproof box to stow the cables, rather than have them on display or messing around to get them into property. Picture quality, motion detection and night vision is excellent even though the camera is not installed in position as recommended on instructions. Instructions state that 2.4ghz WiFi is required, although the camera installed and operates without problem on 5ghz. Peace of mind and good visual deterrent for under 30, fitted and up and running in less than 20 minutes.
Excellent Value for money, versatile little camera
Simple set up. It does need a strong wifi signal – but once connected properly is very stable.
We used this internally and picture quality is very good.
For the price it’s amazing value for money, especially with built in recording and the ability to record to the cloud too.
I bought 2 of these because cheap cams were not clear enough for evidence, these cameras are so clear and the motion and noise sensors work perfectly. They were that clear the police used still to identify person.
Very easy to install and set up, great at picking up WiFi signal
The only downside is the power lead could do with being longer but that’s the same with any camera .
Another addition to my Netvue security cameras. I now have front, back and sides all covered on my house plus an indoor camera focussed on my 3d printer and all work with Alexa to my Echo show.
Excellent customer service.
Great camera, this was purchased as an addition to my 2 other vigil cameras. The vigil 2 is a great update to an already good camera. Easy to install and quick to set up. I will certainly be buying more and getting some for my parents.
Best budget outdoor camera.
For the money it’s excellent.
Vigil 2 seems more stable than the first Vigil especially using SD Card to view past footage.
Motion detection works ok. Playback of recordings could be better.
Bought this as an extra to the “better” (& more expensive) model I’d already got. It has far exceed the higher spec model in every way. The night vision especially while not perfect its very good. Will be buying another to replace the “better” model
This is my third Netvue cam covering both outdoors and indoors. The image quality is pretty good but you need a reasonable wifi signal outside or connect an ethernet cable from your router. Set up is straightforward using the QR code. The recording feature to SD card is particularly useful if you don’t want to pay a monthly subscription for the cloud service. The app for smartphones is intuitive and easy to use for multiple cameras. Overall, the camera seems to be quite robust and is working well after a couple of months. Excellent value for money if you catch a lightning deal.
Got this camera to keep an eye on my driveway and cars parked in it.
Build quality feels good for the price. Most parts are plastic, but the bracket is metal.
The bracket allows lots of options for mounting. There is a handy sticker provided to help drill the holes.
The image during the day is clear, and the night vision is good too.
The unit appears to be well sealed to withstand moisture outside. There is a seal to place over an ethernet cable should you choose to use one. The power cable has a plastic/rubber seal ring to prevent moisture entering.
The memory card slot can be accessed through a hatch on the bottom by unscrewing 4 small screws. It may be challenging to access if the camera is mounted up high, but obviously you would only need to do this if you weren’t able to find the footage you wanted via the Netvue app and specifically wanted to view the footage using the Netvue Player on a computer.
Motion detection is quite good, and sends alerts in the app. It seems better at picking up vehicles and vehicle lights than people, but it is unlikely that where I have it pointed now, it will pick up many people.
Video files are recorded in a proprietary Netvue file format (.nvt) and appear to be 2 minutes long. It would be more useful if the file format was a more common format like .avi, but this is a minor inconvenience.
I have the Netvue Orb Mini camera too and the image quality of the Vigil 2 is sharper. The antennae appear to help with picking up decent WiFi signal, again better than the Orb Mini, which has no external antenna, but is of course an indoor camera.
For the price, this is good budget option.
As an existing Netvue Vigil camera user, I wanted to enhance video coverage around my house. I have been very pleased with the original Vigil camera, particularly the night vision but wanted higher resolution so I ordered the Vigil 2.
First impressions were that the redesign was very clean and much more modern and the addition of an extra antenna looked promising.
Setting up the camera was very easy using the app, as are all the Netvue family and the installation of the memory card was easy too.
Mounting the camera was similar to the original camera although the adjustable arm was much simpler to use.
The picture quality was noticeably better during the day and the night vision was much improved, due no doubt to the increase in IR lamps from 3 to 8.
The video quality allows for much finer detail especially at night, and the 8 IR lamps give amazing coverage during pitch darkness.
The zoom feature is also an improvement and allows close up examination of areas of interest.
Overall, I love the new compact shape of the camera, the picture quality and the ease of installation.
The one criticism I have of both cameras is the cable ends. Although fitted with waterproof caps, I am not sure how well these will cope with wet weather over the long term, and I have installed these cable ends inside a small weatherproof box to give added protection. Although the power lead is about 2 mtrs long, it could do with a 5 mtr cable to allow for fitting in more remote locations.
In conclusion, this new camera is a great improvement on the original Vigil which itself is an amazing camera for the money. Netvue customer service is excellent should you need it and the app works really well. It integrates seamlessly with the Amazon Echo and Echo Show too!
If you’re looking for a good quality exterior camera at a budget price, you won’t do any better than this and I would have no hesitation in recommending this to others.
Great camera. Excellent value.
Camera has really good image for the price. 2 antenna provides a more stable Wi-Fi connection at a greater range. I now have 4 Netvue cameras and they are great value for money. The app works well and I can save to SD Card and recall any video. Will buy again.
This is my seventh Netvue camera and as you might have guessed, I like the range. The app is easy to use with great control on zones, sensitivity etc. You can sign up for continuously monitoring but I find the activation notifications work great for me. See the quality of the attached photo from one of my cameras.
This is a relatively cheap camera which does a good job. Works well with the app and with Alexa. Not actually any betttasy toer in my experience than the Netvue 1 camera – actually exactly the same, except it looks a bit different. But easy to set up and easy to use with the App. If you want to record you will need to take out the Netvue subscription or buy a micro SD card (c25 for 128GB – the highest the camera will take : stores up to 14 days).
Amazing! Love these cameras!!!
Amazing cameras!!! I love how easy it is to check them from my phone. I brought this one to cover a blind spot I had and it is perfect. Easy to set up. I would buy from again, again and again from Netvue!!!
So this is the third Netvue camera I’ve purchased. The set up is so easy, just a couple of steps and done. I’d recommend setting the camera up indoors and then moving to the place you want to site it. It’s just easier. Takes up to 128gb micro SD so lots of storage space.
Make sure.you have 2.4g as this only works on 2.4 and not 5. This is due to the range of the WiFi. If near enough to the router you can connect the camera with an ethernet cable, this makes sure you never drop connection.
Easy to wall mount and what I like about this one compared to the other ones I have is you don’t need.an Allan key to adjust the camera position.
All in these cameras are brilliant for the money, if you want a simple to set up and cost effective cctv system or even set up in your house then you can’t go far wrong with this.
The picture quality is really good on this. Whilst its not as good as some it is certainly more than adequate to identify people.
The only Con I can think of is the cable on the adaptor isn’t massively long bit it is sufficient and you could buy an extension of you don’t have a socket nearby.
The Netvue Vigil 2 is a great little security camera…
It has 2 antennae on the side which can be rotated to point towards your router(s) and helps with WiFi connectivity (though that was never really an issue for us even with the vigil 1 camera which had 1 antenna). There’s also an ethernet port which is useful if you have the ability to run cable to the camera which will obviously provide a more stable connection.
The camera itself has a plastic housing, which is thick and solid enough to withstand different weather conditions, and there are 8 infrared lights around the lens providing excellent night-time visibility (albeit night vision is always in black & white as you’d expect). The picture quality is great, particularly during the day when everything is in full colour and you can zoom in to see more detail. At 1080p it’s a pretty clear picture, but don’t be expecting to zoom right in to someone’s face from the roof – it’ll lose some clarity – but for me it does the job. The picture quality seems slightly better than the Vigil 1 with some noticable difference in colour vibrancy and quality when zoomed in (though it does take a little while to render when you do that). The audio is clear too, and two way comms is a useful feature – especially if you use the camera near the front door (though there is a slight lag).
It’s great to set motion alerts, though I get loads through the night when bugs fly past… I’ve had to set up quiet times to prevent Alexa waking everyone up with “motion detected in the garden” whenever there’s a moth. The alerts in the mobile app are good though, you receive a screenshot which you can review and then decide if you need to look at the camera. You can set this up easily within the app with no extra storage needed, but if you want to keep footage to be able to watch it back etc then you will probably want a cloud subscription. The prices for this vary but are reasonable, and sometimes there are offers on making this very appealing. There is an internal micro SD card slot inside the camera (behind a small panel held on with 4 small screws) which enables continuous recording for as long as the card capacity allows (after which time it overwrites the older footage); this is a good alternative to the cloud subscription for storage, though not as functional as you won’t get human detection and motion-activated recording etc. It will just record constantly, but the footage is accessible over the internet via the netvue app which is good.
The camera is very easy to set up, simply open the netvue app and scan the QR code on the device and follow the instructions… If you are using a WiFi connection and mounting the camera somewhere high up, ensure you configure this before installing the camera as you do need to show a QR code back to the camera at some point to provide the WiFi login credentials… I made this mistake with my Vigil 1 and had to get the ladders back out to get it connected!
I have become a fan of netvue cameras through my experience with them. They work really well with the Amazon Echo and we’re now onto our third one – including a netvue home we use as a baby monitor. We will be buying more to cover the rest of our property.
I purchased this new Vigil 2 camera to take the place of an old cheap PTZ camera that keeps dropping its network connection.
I already have one Netvue camera, the Vigil, that I have been very happy with so thought I would try this Vigil 2.
On opening the camera comes with everything you need to install other than the tools, firstly you will need a Philips head screwdriver to remove the 4 screws and install a micro SD card, I had a 32gb one to hand but this camera will take up to a 128gb SD card for more recording room. As I use Netview’s low cost cloud service I don’t really need an SD card but it’s nice to just have a backup.
the camera is a good looking device with clean mouldings and good insulation from the weather, it had two aerials installed to give a better WiFi reception although my other Netvue camera has just one aerial I haven’t really noticed a difference between them on the WiFi but if your router was some distance away and with a weaker signal then you might find the additional aerial a plus point.
Setup is so very easy using the Netvue app’ , you are guided through the installation and this is done in just a few minutes, I would suggest installing the camera to the app’ before you fix the camera into place as you will need access to the QR code on the case of the camera. Once paired with the app’ then fix it to the wall using the supplied plugs and screws, you will find that this will save you time.
The power cable that comes with this is a good length and plenty long enough to go through the wall and to a nearby power socket. Once fixed into place the camera has a simple axis adjustment for aiming it to where you need your surveillance to be.
The HD picture quality from this camera is amazing and at this price point can’t be beaten. You can setup motion detection recording to save space on the SD card or have it record constantly, it will automatically overwrite the early recordings as the cards space runs out.
The app’ will show all of the Netvue cameras that you have on one screen so it’s simple to watch live on any camera at the touch of a button on your phone.
Simple setup, great picture and good value,
Recommended.
After purchasing 4 of the vigil 1 cameras I decided to try the vigil 2 to get further coverage to the rear of my property. The installation couldn’t be easier.
Download the app, temporarily plug the camera to a power supply, add new device within the app, scan the QR code on the device, add your WiFi password and you’re away after it connects to your internet.
Then disconnect and fit the camera in the required position, connect it to a power supply and you’re done.
I found I needed a 5.5 x 2.1mm 10 metre CCTV extension lead and a watertight external junction box. The lead is around 5 from Amazon and the plastic junction box is around 2 from Screwfix. You will also need a 128gb micro SD card if you opt out of the cloud storage.
Once the cam is installed you have the option to be notified of movement (adjustable sensitivity)
There is also a motion zone option that allows the user to mask areas from the movement sensor.
With the SD card the user also has the option to search recordings for particular dates and times (dependent on micro SD card capacity).
The cameras are great quality and the customer services are available and willing to resolve issues. (I had a question about the cloud service)
All in all I found the quality of the build to be very robust.
The only negative point I found was that if the camera loses connection to the router you will have to access the junction box to press a small reset button on one of the leads. This can be awkward if the camera isn’t particularly accessible once installed.
I purchased this camera as a Christmas gift for an elderly friend who was concerned about security after a spate of house burglaries in her neighbourhood.
Initially, I was somewhat disappointed that the whole camera housing and bracket construction material is plastic, as was expecting this to be metal. However, the criminally cheap price and excellent picture quality more than makes up for this. Whilst plastic, it remains a solid looking and feeling camera and the material used seems strong, and although its early days yet, appears to be hard wearing and up to the task of withstanding the outdoor elements. As far as the price and trade-offs go, I would rather a plastic housing than a compromise on the electronics and picture quality or functionality. Here the camera doesn’t disappoint. The images are crips and clear, and although I have not seen it at night (installed it at my friends house during the day), she has been signing its praises when it comes to the night vision and overall picture quality and clarity.
The set-up couldn’t be easier! The camera is mounted on an exterior wall, with her wifi router located in a room that shares the same exterior wall, so I cant really say what the wifi range and reception is like due to the close unhindered proximity of router to camera with her set-up.
Functionality with Alexa is excellent with even motion alerts catered for, far more than any other third party non amazon cameras Ive seen. The Alexa skill is easy to set up, however it could be more user friendly with very specifically worded commands needed before it will do what you want it to. Buffering lags could be better too, but this may he down to amazon or my friends ISP speeds.
Personally, as a home automation enthusiast, with almost everything in my house being IOT, I would find the lack having a menu option with advanced or expert user configuration options (network authentication, images settings etc) frustrating. Thats not to say its not a great camera. It does what it needs to and does a good job of it too.
I like that the camera can record to an SD card as I personally loathe the subscription culture. It is rather deceptively advertised as having AI smart human detection capability (avoids false motion alarm triggers for subjects such as foxes, trees moving in the wind), when in fact this facility is only available through a monthly subscription. My Eziviz cameras has this algorithm on the camera itself without the need for any subscriptions.
Overall, its a great camera at a bargain price. You get more than your moneys worth and it is an excellent entry level camera for someone just starting off a home security/automation project, or as in my friends case, just for peace of mind.
Great value high spec camera
Installation and wifi connection was easy and quick to do. The app is easy to use and navigate and has great options to use from. the picture quality is good for night and day. Would highly recommend.
Put this outside on the driveway and i have to say the quality is great and i love the motion alerts on Alexa. Only downside is the length of wire, i have to put a socket in and because its got a transformer i have to use a large waterproof box.
I purchased this device as my second camera in my home to protect my bicycles and rear door. The quality is great and I installed the camera in 15 minutes.
Very easy to install and setup and the APP works well and easily interfaced with Alexa.
Very happy with my purchase of both my NETVUE outdoor cameras.
