Training your pet to use a ramp

I bought this ramp for other then a dog. I am 80 years old and need a way to get my husbands walker/transit chair into the back of my Jeep. I can not lift it and considered the weight of the ramp also. The ramp is so easy for me to handle, open, set up, use and fold and place back in the car. I liked having the edges on the sides to help it stay on, which would be for a dog also. I like that it is 62″ so it is not a steep incline which I know would be easier for dogs too rather then a short ramp with steep incline. The ramp seems very well made.

I have been looking all over for a sturdy, lightweight, easily transportable car ramp for our aging Collie. There are manyramps out there, but not that show the use with a normal car side door. Most show pictures of the ramp being used on the back of a large pick-up truck, or with the sliding doors of a van, or suv. The PetSafe Happy Ride Folding 62″ Pet Ramp works perfectly with our Nissan Sentra. We also use a pet hammock in the back seat so our dog does not fall into the back seat floor on our rides. The hammock also helps support the upper left area of the ramp. I also purchased a strap system that can be hooked from the car side door frame to the upper ramp for support, however with the hammock, I find I do not need the strap. Our dog is 79 pounds and the ramp is 100% sturdy and secure. Yes, the walking surface is rough (I could easily file my nails on it) but it does not seem to bother my dog at all. The pads of her feet are not bothered by this. We had attempted to make our own ramp which she refused to use, it was wobbly and difficult to fit it precisely in the door opening, but the PetSafe ramp fits just right, and is long enough to not be too steep of a climb into the car. Very happy with my purchase!

Works perfectly for my beagle getting in and out of my jeep….expert on the first try. I use an old yoga mat on it for traction but am planning to use Carpet secured by Velcro strips.
Really like this ramp it folds easily and is light enough for the majority of people to handle.
The non slip surface is awesome. It’s taking me a little time to train my dog to use it but as an older dog who’s never used a ramp it’s a tad awkward. It would be even better if it had a carry handle built into the desig
I have a Corgi and when I got my new Santa Fe it was too high for him to jump into the back. This Ramp fits folded in half easily, its heavy duty plastic material with a rough surface. My corgi was hesitant at first but now uses it on command. Recommend.
This ramp is very easy to fold and is nice and light to transport. Love it.
My great dane/german shepherd mix (105lbs) was injured and needed surgery- I ordered this that morning (2 days before surgery) and it arrived so quickly. The traction is nice, as it was snowing when it has been used. Despite my dog’s ‘great dane’ hesitancy, he used it with ease. Overall for the price, lightweight and super quick shipping I would recommend this product!

Works ok, but the metal rod where it folds, keeps easing out and have to push it back in every few days.
I’ve got two large dogs and we have no issues with this ramp. Light weight, sturdy and easy to handle even by yourself. Very glad we bought it!!

Zu Beginn allerdings mussten wir mit Leckerli tricksen, damit die Treppe angenommen wurde.
This folding ramp has proved effective for our 30Kg Dog gaining access in & out of our car rear. However..I had to glue pieces of industrial carpet on the tread areas as his damp feet slipped, it’s now very effective.
Simple to use, robust and secure.
It is perhaps a bit heavy and our dog slips a bit on the surface, so I am going to stick on carpet tiles.
Just starting to train our Labrador to use the ramp.
Have had to add Rubber Mats to ramp as our dog found coating slippery to climb.
I got this for my 40kg bulldog as he has arthritis in his shoulder and it’s absolutely brilliant. He took to using it straight away after a couple of mins practice in the garden. Yes it’s bulky but it does the job perfectly
our dog has arthritis and cannot jump into the car. She learned very quickly to use the ramp. Being a lab it needs to be sturdy and long enough to create a gentle gradie
Used this after my dog had an operation on his leg. Was great to use on steps in and out of house and into the car. Robust, easy to fold up and put in the car. Very happy with product.
It took a few days to get the dog used to this, but when he’s really tired this is really helpful in getting him out.
Good for preventing any impact from him jumping down.
He’s 55kg and the ramp is fine with this weight.
We haven’t managed to use this yet we’ve brought it ready for when our two springers can no longer jump in the boo

My Labrador was getting very crippled. With the stress for her trying to jump up to get into the jeep was putting a lot of strain on her joints. This ramp has been a godsend for her and didn’t take long for her to get used to it.

This is substantial so suitable for big dogs. Mine didn’t like the sandpaper style grip so replaced it with carpet tile, cheap fix now resolved the issue of the dogs slipping . One dog uses it reluctantly but much better than lifting or asking them to jump. Does the job.
Perfect for our 50lb dog who had previously damaged her front ankles by jumping out of the car.
This product will also be a great aid as she gets older.
Dog still a little nervous but getting better. Would have liked clearer instructions on which end goes on the floor & which on the car, found out by trial & error. However I am pleased with the product, my large dog has plenty of room either side just needs treats to get up.
On the whole very good and easy to use. Because of the steepness we used a towel to give a bit more traction for our Labrador who was recovering from an operation on his elbows. Worked fine.
The ramp is lightweight and quite easy to fold. The surface does not have sufficient grip for our dog so we have attached a sheet of material to stop him slipping.

This ramp is good to get my girl Sam who is my sheppard in to my car after her haveing a hip op as didn’t want to lift her in and hurt her she wasn’t keen at first but seems ok now just a shame it’s not a little wider!
Good and sturdy but my dog does not like it he refuses to climb up it, so looks like I’m still going to have to continue to help him in the car boot.
My 9 yr old Border Collie c 20 kg learnt to use this in a few minutes with the help of some treats. Folds easily and fits in the back of my Toyota Yaris.
It is excellent. Very strong and easy to position. Good curve at top to fit rear of car section.

Ideal for our Springer Spaniel. Walked him along the ramp as instruction advised. Placed it on the boot, he then walked up, no problem, and coming down just the same. We keep a steady hand ready just in case. No problem so far. Very please with our purchase.

Excellent ramp. Our boy would only it to come down not go up.( quite a wooser ). Alas he passed away last December but have kept it just in case.

Love this product. Exactly as it says on the description. Sturdy and durable. My only negative would be, that my 11 year old dog on occasion, finds the angle a tadd too steep, so needs a helping arm behind her. Other than this it is perfect. I have a Vauxall corsa so not anything extreme in hight but still steep at times, it seems.

Flynn took to using it very quickly on ly need a couple of treats. Very sturdy.
Lightweight and durable, dog took to it after a little coaxing, there is a raised edge to the ramp which is good but this isn’t enough to prevent the dog from falling off so care needs to be taken walking them both up and down the ramp. Would recommend as this saves my back now that dog is not able to jump in the car himself!
Bought this for my ageing border collie cross, to save him trying to jump up the backdoor step from the garden. Leave it out in all weathers and, so far, it has survived.
Seems good and fit for purpose. Two of the four rubber stops weren’t attached but they were in the box and so were the screws. Cocker took to it immediately. Elderly Springer (reason for buying) is considering it at the french door at the moment. Seems strong enough. I would have paid a little more if a zip up bag had been provided. In muddy conditions or after a beach visit it needs storing in the car, not the boot with the dogs, so the inevitable black bag will have to do.
Good quality, pity dog wouldn’t go near it he suddenly recovered from his stiffness when this arrived at the boot.

The ramp is as advertised and very suitable for a large dog with arthritis in the shoulders. We also use it to get her on and off the grooming table – ideal.
Very pleased with this ramp, using it for my 40kg, 11yr old chesapeake bay retriever, who has a shoulder injury. It was easy to get him used to by walking on it on the flat ground 1st. I use it in a passat estate. It is a bit bulky but worth it as I can now take my dog in the car again without aggrevating his shoulder. Looks sturdy. Good grip on surface. Overall very pleased with this purchase & I would recommend it.

Absolutely brilliant, light weight, easy to use, fits in car well. Only took my 13 year old collie a couple of days to get used to it and is now enjoying trips to the park again. Money well spent.

i’m surprised that my dog took to this straight away. We laid it indoors with treats so she got used to walking along it. First time I put in the car she was up it – so she and I are very happy. Quite lightweight and quite easy to use. The little bit of plastic to secure it was broken, emailed supplier who put a replacement in the post – can’t fault that.

This ramp is very well made and closed very easily to store on the back seat of my car.
My dog did not like the ‘sandpaper’ type of finish, so I got some waterproof carpet a,d glued it on to the walking up area. Now it is fine.

This is so easy to use and does exactly what it says it does. The only problem I have now is trying to get my little westie to use it but the training will continue.
Sadly my poor lab died before she could use it, but the ramp was great. I would really recommend it.
Fantastic now my dog can get into our caravan without hurting his back, as he suffers fro arthritis. Would recomend this to those who have a ageing pet.
Excellent product and very good value for money. I have two elderly German Shepherd dogs whom I would normally have to lift their back end into the tailgate of the car. They very quickly learned that the ramp makes it easy for them and now they go up and down happily.

A very sturdy ramp, does not bend or wobble. folds up neatly in boot and light enough to get in and out. Took some training to get dog used to it but now he is vary happy to go on it and is certainly saving his joints from impact of jumping in and out.

The ramp arrived three days ago. It seems with some persuasion my dogs (collies aged 15 and 12 respectively) can be taught new tricks. Much more inclined to mount than descend the ramp but they seem to have caught on already. The sides are really important for old dogs. So far the only criticism is that the anti slip surface does not have quite as much grip as I might have hoped but as the dogs are closely monitored and held anyway it is ok. The ramp is quite bulky and only just fits in my ford focus boot along with the dog crate.
Thus far, I believe I made the right decision.
When looking at lists of dog ramps this one doesn’t come up in the first ten or so but actually I think it is probably one of the best.
Now my dog is using it without any biscuit rewards and she is so much more relaxed now that she doesn’t have to jump in and out onto arthritic legs. We are travelling to Spain soon so the ramp will have a lot of use.
