The door being flexible is a much better solution to the previous 4 my dogs broke because the the doors were hard plastic and pivet on a c. 3mm bit of plastic sticking out either side. When I was installing I thought it was madness and they would easily snap, which they did within a couple of weeks each time. This is a much better solution.
While fitting, the long nylon screws just thread through the hole easily, then screw the nut on and carry on until it’s on then snip the extra off, no trying to saw the extra thread of with a hacksaw :-).
But today after c. 2 months big crash from the utility room and the inside 1/2 is on the floor.
All 4 nylon screws had snapped at the screw head!!!
I’ll now test the customer services!

    Very effective solid door, bu

Tried cheaper but you really do get what you pay for. My very large dog uses this dozens of times a day (in all weathers) and it still looks and works perfectly. Waited 12 months before reviewing this as have give positive reviews too early to other products. This is a high quality, first class product.

I like that this size has the flexible door. My previous one was solid plastic and after a years worth of use the dog used to break it (replaced 3 over 4 years) So early days yet but I am hoping with the door being flexible it should’nt shatter. Also the door has a part number and is removeable without extracting the whole frame so if you did need to replace the door it can be swapped with ease.

I’m a joiner by trade so found this very easy to fit. I wasn’t sure about the plastic bolts but they do seem ok and we’re very easy to break off to a flush fit after securing. The flexible flap is surprising good and stays in place well on the magnet. My dog is a large lab/collie cross and this size was perfect for him. He loves being able to come and go as he pleases while I’m at work and I don’t feel as anxious leaving him and he has ready access to toilet himself as well as his food and water.

    Pros
Easy to install, good quality, nice heavy flap, good locking door.
    Cons
Bolts included is made of soft plastic. They did send 4 extra, luckily cause I broke 4.
Magnet a bit too weak for wind.
My kitchen door is in a angle, fairly protected, so not really an issue for me unless winds cone in just right.
But something to consider if your door is in a windy place.

Good dog door, not for windy places

Love the design of this pet door. Fairly easy to fit, provided you have the correct tools. The flap is really quiet when the dogs come in and out unlike other pet doors we have had which have been extremely noisy.

Very easy to install. Bit dissapointed that it came with plastic screws, feel this is abit of a cheap thing to provide for the cost of the product. Plastic screws snap if you tighten them slightly too much. Don’t buy if you have a midframe in your door and need to use the lock, it has to be flat against the door and slid straight down. Over all a good product, however the issue with the midframe could be identified in the description.

We bought this XL product back in 2013 to fit to our backdoor so that our four large dogs could come and go as they pleased from our back garden into the house. It was also purchased as an energy saving device so that we didn’t have to have a door open in cold weather. Well it works brilliantly! I cannot praise this product enough. We had four huge dogs, 2 white German Shepherds easily 45kg, and 2 Alaskan Malamutes one of which is MASSIVE at 75kg and nearly 6ft 2inch when he stands on his hind feet and is 102.5cm tall (only 1cm shorter than the World Record Breaking Tallest Dog!) and yet he dashes in and out of the dog flap several times a day with ease! We have just purchased another of these amazing XL dog flaps as, after 8 years of continuous use, it is understandably looking a bit shabby now and the sliding closing door is sticking, but this has lasted way beyond it’s original 3yr guarantee. Fantastic product, easy to fit and amazing for the freedom, health & happiness of your fur babies! Highly recommended!!!

Excellent Dog Flap Especially For Huge Dogs!

It needed to have a surround placed under it as the door frame was too thin and because there is a door bar half way up the door this restricted door closure…. Best move though for us, with 3 dogs we were forever letting them in and out. Alternatively we had to leave the door open, okay in the summer but really not a good idea in the colder weather.

If you have dogs you need a dog flap!! Our youngest had our grown the ‘up to 40kg’ one we had and this one is so much better. Yes when the wind blows the magnet doesn’t keep the door shut, and yes it is not very weather proof but if it did all those things it would be to hard for the dogs to use. All three GSD’s fly in and out and even the little golden retriever finds it easier to use – although she can still only come in and not go out!!

  31. SidneyEtienne says:

Large is the size for border collies, good magnet at the bottom helps to keep it shut and the seal when not in use is very handy to stop muddy feet! They got the idea in no time.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI originally bought the Extreme Weather Extra Large and fitted it to the outside patio door – I replaced the complete glass panel with the door flap and built a frame back around the door flap.

This is a very good solution as previously the door was always open, so my dog could go outside into the garden. The temperature in the kitchen has now gone back up as the door is always closed.

The downside to this door, is that a strong gust of wind will blow the door flap of its magnets – I will build a little tunnel on the outside to reduce the force of the wind.

I then bought a second extra large door for the internal room, as this door was always left open for my dog to wander about between rooms. This door is excellent as the door is now always shut and my dog just uses the flap to wander between rooms .

The pictures attached show the 1st door Extreme Weather fitted into the outside patio door, including a video of my German Shepherd coming inside the kitchen. The other picture is of the internal door that I fitted with ease.

I’ve read others complain about the Extreme Weather door and I agree with them about not needing a big gust of wind to blow it open.

Overall I’m happy with the doors as the rooms are now a lot warmer and winter is here.

Even though this was fitted to an uneven door, it was really quite simple. Just make sure that the holes drilled for the screws are straight, or you may have trouble inserting the retaining screws.

The pet door was easy to install. However, I thought that it was expensive for what you actually get. There are no internal extensions for between the inside and outside doors. I had to make some from plywood, adding further to the cost.

Got this as our youngest bulldog kept using the cat flap and we decided we would get the dogs a flap then they can get out for the loo without asking.

The flap does open in the wind.. Its warm right now so I haven’t noticed it making the house cold so maybe in winter it may let the draft in.. I’m thinking we may need to use the lock door for winter to keep the cold out.

Onto the lock door you need to keep a gap so it can slide in.. We didn’t we’ve had to trim the metal for sliding the lock door down… Silly us but it didn’t say anything in the instructions.

I bought this to save me keeping the door open for my 19 dogs and everything from a bison cross poodle, to German shepherd and all sizes in between go through it. the smaller dogs do struggle with the relatively heavy flap but to be honest that is due to their size not the product as it is meant for bigger dogs, I have simply replaced the flap with a cloth so the little dogs can pass through, it is not as efficient but again that is not the products fault it is because I have such a range of dog sizes, It has a solid drop sheet which can be locked into place if you want to either keep dogs in or out but also if you are away for your home for any time it can be installed and would make a solid door for security reasons. I was recommended this by a friend who uses the same product for their rottweiler and they have no issues, it comes with the installation details and all the bits you need, If you need a way of letting your dogs in without holding the door all day then this might well be a good option but get the size best suited for your dog unfortunately my door is not big enough to have the full range of sizes so I went for the biggest, for the biggest of the dogs and adapted it for the rest but not everyone has 19 dogs.

Its a great flap, seems durable. My only problems with it is the screws supplied are plastic and break easily, i recommend heading to a local shop and buying some strong metal bolts. We have a UPVC door – so needed to get a man in to provide a new panel and fit this flap. He said it was a little painful to install – but the finished job is great. we went for this aluminium one, as we had ben through about 15 of the plastic flaps over the years. The most noticeable difference is the noise. It is completely silent when used – rather than the noisy plastic ones of the past. Both little and large dogs like it and use it without a problem. If the wind is blowing really hard (as it has been recently) it can blow open occasionally – however, we just put the cover on it – problem solved!

Best pet flap we have ever bought, had to buy a bigger pet flap for our elderly dog to use to let herself in and out, started with a traditional hard plastic type – she would not go through it at all, was a bit scared of it I think, tried training her but it was no good.
Saw this and thought might as well try it and result – after a couple of days of encouraging her with treats to go in and out she was happy using it all the time. It has made such a difference, no more little puddles on the floor as she will now go out through the pet flap as and when she needs to.
Only negative, it does sometimes blow open slightly in the wind and can cause a draught – but the positives out way this small negative. Wish we’d bought it ages ago

Works well, my 29kg greyhound girl manages just fine with the size large. A very strong wind can blow it open but most can’t. It’s been on for 6 weeks in the middle of winter and I’ve not noticed a temperature drop or rise in heating costs. There is some condensation on the inside of the flap but as long as you put sealant around the frame it’s no real issue and to be expected. My dogs took to it after a few days of finding it scary. I do have some extra security, such as not having a thumb/turn latch, secure fence, cctv inside focused on the door, outside has a security light and I dont leave any keys out. Even if someone managed to avoid the dogs and dislocate their own shoulders to get through then anything they want still has to go back out through the flap. I also make sure the dog has an is tag just in case. I work nights and finding a dog walker for 3am is impossible lol. This gave my dogs some independence and no accidents inside! If you are in two minds about it then I’d honestly say go for it, It’s the best decision I’ve made.

Works well, easy to install and gives my dog the ability to spend more time outside!

So please with this dog flap. Because of the flexible flap it is so quiet and easy for the dogs to use. The magnetic strip keeps it closed in the strongest wind. We bought a large flap as we have a visiting Labrador, but would have just needed a medium flap if it was just for our border collies.

    Quiet and sturdy.

Being aluminium this is much sturdier and the flap is a softer flexible plastic with a quiet click that we cant hear in the house. Whereas the rigid plastic one that we had prior started to split after a year and was so loud! Even laid in bed we could hear the dogs going through it.

We have two springers and a large pet door. It is installed in a conservatory upvc panel. Its slightly too deep for the panel but some flexible gap filler did the trick.

I don’t dislike this door, it’s very easy for the dog to use, looks nice and suits how we allow dog access to the garden.

There are issues, firstly if you have a UPVC door with any kind of moulding around where you will put the door the security flap won’t work and you will have to build out an inch or so with wood to clear the moulding. The plastic screws are rubbish, had to buy replacements to get decent fit and security.

A lot of other reviews say that it will blow open in the wind, initially this is true, and my review used to agree, however now it’s been 6 months and the plastic has become less rigid with use this is not an issue, in all the latest storms it rarely blows open and if it does normally removing hair from the fur linings and putting in place fixes the problem.

Perfect for our big Dogue de Burdeaux!!! It came very quickly after ordering, we were given a time slot as it was Sunday which worked really well. Converted to Amazon Prime

To provide access in and out for an English bull terrier. He took to it instantly and used it as soon as we let him after the sealant and everything was ready.

Easy to install if you have the right tools etc. The only dislike I have is the connecting screws are plastic and not at all robust, I understand why they have used them to take into account several door thicknesses but would much rather have received a number of different length bolts.

A seperate cover for winter however if you put in a pvc door be careful as the cover slides downwards and on my door, it is recessed so not enough clearance for cover to slide into place. It will if i bend it and put pressure on it but hard to get out again watch your fingers! Stilla good product but blows open when windy. Putti g the cover on defeats the object of the dog flap, but saves energy.

It’s virtually the whole of the bottom half of the door so no stopping the wind on that one but the dogs use it from the St Bernard to the Pug

Looks nice, it’s massive. However the flap lasted all of an hour. Went out, came home to find the lab pup chewed it and has broken it. The flap doesn’t shut.. However bonus is, when he is out of the chewing phase we can buy a replacement flap.

Quite easy to install and flap returns well also includes a slot in section for the not so nice days , a must if you havea large 60kg + dog , not sure it’s suitable for a upvc door due to its size

Used to replace an old dog flap makes the house a lot warmer but there is a minimum thickness to your door I fitted it in a french door and had to build up thickness to fit. Plastic screws not ideal.

Works really well with dog and also stays put in windy days. No water comes in when it’s raining. Seems to be really durable, much better than the hard doors that tend to crack when my enthusiastic dog hurtles out the door.

Perfect, dogs are totally independent, go in and out when they want. When it’s really windy then the flap does tend to swing open but i’m Happy and so are the herberts

Made a huge difference to our and the dog’s freedom. We can now go away for a morning/afternoon and not worry. We got a joiner to instal and our dog only took one biscuit to work out how she got through. Fantastic.

Fantastic and easy to assemble!! We have 2 HUGE dogs and this door has stood the test of time! My only quibble is the seal magnet could be stronger as if it’s very windy the flap moves a lot. Love that is can be closed up when you need to restrict dogs in/ou

Very happy with this the product, it has stood up to 2 Labradors using and gale force winds for the past month, when past dog flaps with the plastic door have snapped within weeks of using.
