Perfect 4K picture. Bit tricky to Hardwire if doing your self, but otherwise unbleivable.

Had to contact their customer care email for an update, but they were very prompt in replying. Could be improved by providing a website for information and updates. Some of the menu items in the setup were not covered by the manual and could not find any information about them online. The video quality and convenience of the reverse display is very nice. The MPH readout on the screen was incorrect until I performed the software update.

I have owned many mirror dash cameras and I have to say this I the best so far, 4k video from the front facing camera and 1080p from the rear.

You can remove the rear mounting hooks and secure direct onto your original mirror to give it that OEM look and being 12″ the front camera should always clear your original mirror without the need to extend/slide it out like you do with the 10″ models.

The rear camera housing is amazing, solid alloy construction and looks great, again giving that OEM look when mounted above the number plate on the bumper.

I would highly suggest that you first take a 30cm/12″ school ruler and place over your original mirror before you buy to ensure your sunvisors retract fully against your windscreen.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have two other vehicles both fitted with top of the range Blackvue 2 channel camera’s (costing 3 times the price of this product) and was intending to buy another to add to this new vehicle. However as a van I also wanted a permanent rear view camera and nearly bought a dedicated one for around 180 as it seemed to fit the bill. However I then discovered this product that would both act as a permanent rear view camera and offer front and rear recording.

With the price paid I wasn’t too hopeful about the quality of the video footage – I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for) so kind of expected to be adding another Blackvue to my collection and just using this as a rear view mirror. However I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the picture on the mirror and the recorded file. Using a 256Gb memory card I record at the highest resolution offered of 4k on the front camera and 1080p HD for the rear. The picture quality is excellent, number plates can be read in most circumstances, night time recording is adequate, although with light glare it can be more difficult to read number plates.

There is a downside to this type of desig, the front camera is fixed on the rear of the mirror so cannot be attached directly to the windscreen. This potentially causes two problems – restrictive view of the nearside of the car if your windscreen has a central ‘hub’ dropping from the ceiling to house the front screen sensors, as most new cars do now. You can see from the attached photo that it does get in the way, despite the camera being able to be pulled out of the body a little to the right on a slider mechanism. The other main issue I find is that due to the camera body being further away from the windscreen glare and reflections from the dashboard tends to be a little worse in some lighting conditions. Remember though that this is not a criticism of this particular product, all rear view mirrors with built in forward facing camera will suffer from this to an extent.

The rear camera is housed in a metal body and in my case is mounted upside down outside of the tailgate, above the number plate. It seems to be of good quality although a personal preference would for it to be in black rather than the bronze type finish. Time will tell if it remains waterproof and hardy enough to stand up the elements fo the great British weather. A small concern may be the length of the cable that you need to run to the front mirror from the rear camera. I ran it up the inside of the tailgate and along the roof under the headlining and found there was not much surplus cable. My van is small short wheel base variant so if you have a longer vehicle or need to route the cable along the floor and then up to the mirror then you may struggle a little.

The actual ‘Mirror’ again seems to be of good quality, the display is great offering all front view, all rear view or split front and rear view at the same time. The touchscreen is responsive and the limited menu options are pretty easy to navigate through. I would have liked the option to adjust the quality of the recorded file (i.e. increased or lower bitrate) so I can balance the file size/quality depending on the size of the memory card being used. Playing back the recorded files is also pretty simple using the touchscreen.

There were a couple of bugs in the firmware when I first installed the camera but these were fixed quickly by support through supplying a firmware update. I have now also installed the hardwire kit so will see how this works in keeping my vehicle protected while parked up – it offers two modes of time lapse or motion detection recording.

I haven’t yet connected the rear camera up to the reversing live feed, but this is said to add guide lines and automatically switch to the rear camera view when reverse is selected even if the screen is showing a different view. I will connect this up in time, but as the camera is set to look more out the back to record what is happening it is not as effective as a dedicated reversing camera that is angled down more to show the rear of the car.

One annoyance is the positioning of the micro sd card slot – this is on top of the camera in between the three plugs that connect the power, rear camera and GPS module, so the camera has to be tilted down from it’s usual position and then it’s a bit fiddly to remove the card. It would have been much better to have card inserted either into the side or bottom of the mirror, especially as this is the only way of getting the files off the card.

Finally the recorded files are placed into one of 4 folders, 2 each for the front and rear cameras, then either ‘normal’ or ’emergency’ folders based on the motion detection. There is no included software to play back the files although they can be played with any normal video player. I already have 2 dashcam viewer programs so haven’t purchased the one recommended by this product. The viewer I have that does play the ‘MOV’ files doesn’t recognise the map or geometry data and as the files are recorded into separate folders can’t play font and rear together in split screen or picture in picture like I can with the Blackvue files.

So in summary I think this a great bit of kit for the price, it exceeded my expectations (which is always nice) and offers good support from the manufacturer. Yes, the Blackvue has more bells and whistles, such as cloud connectivity, wireless downloading and better picture quality – but they do cost 3 times the price of this product.

    Pro’s:
    – 4K resolution from front camera
    – Great quality screen on the mirror
    – Fit and forget for peace of mind

    Cons:
    – Fixed front camera can be obstructed and show more dashboard glare
    – Separate GPS module to be wired in (supplied)
    – Extra cost for playback software
    – fiddly removal/insertion of the memory card

    Great camera for the price

Never had a rear view mirror cameras before and decided to try it but the main selling point for me was Sony sensor which I have on my other RedTiger camera in wife’s car and I’m very happy with its picture quality.

Bear in mind this thing is big and heavy because it’s basically a giant touch screen. Installation was relatively easy but I couldn’t use my older camera mini USB cable as this one has an non-standard mini USB for some reason(?) but it won’t be an issue if you installing your first camera. A bit odd that GPS module is not built into the camera and you need attach it separately. I was surprised that the rear camera has metal body! Never seen anything like that before so should withstand elements when installed outside of a car. Also you can wire it to reversing light and the rear camera will turn on automatically when you reverse.

The screen is bright and touch sensitivity is surprisingly good. You can turn the screen off or have a clock displayed in any corner of the screen if you’d like. However I’d recommend to keep it turned off for better rear mirror visibility, because as you’d expect the LCD is not as reflective as proper mirror and when it’s on it’s actually lights up affecting reflection (for those who actually use rear view mirrors lol).

I like that you can finally watch recordings right on the dashcam! I’ve been using it for a week now and had no issues so far and can definitely recommend it.

A lot of technology for the money

It feels and looks strong and robust as soon as you remove it from the box. The rearview camera is especially sturdy unlike a lot I have seen before. Ompletely made from metal rather than plastic. Also a super speedy delivery.

    Strong and Robus
