Any product that is open-and-go is a pro for me. You simply hit one button and when its ready you do what you need to. Auto shut off is a huge plus as well. We all forget to shut things off from time to time. I work on compressed natural gas garbage trucks and this is perfect. Long reach. Easy clean. Durable. What more could I ask for. Es un producto de uso prodesional. Cambie la instalacin de gas en la cocina. Vino un tecnico de repsol y me “certific” la instalacin y me hizo el contrato de mantenimiento. An estando la instalacin certificada por un profesional compr este detector. Sealaba que haba fuga justo en la conexin a la placa de cocinar. Llam al tecnico y tras varios dias por fin apareci en casa. Deca que mi detector deba estar averiado. Revis la instalacin de nuevo con su detector y no sealaba fuga. Le hice una demostracin con mi detector y ya por fin se convencin de que haba fuga de gas. La volvi a probar con un manmetro y se comprob que haba una leve fuga. Por fin admiti que mi detector era mas sensible que el suyo. Cambi una junta y solucionado. Este detector es mas sensible que el que traa el tecnico profesional.

Easy to read and follow instructions. Simple to set up and calibration is just to turn it on outside in fresh air. It found the gas leak before the British Gas engineer arrived. That saved him time as the leak was in the floor (Methane is lighter than air, so rises, so the floor is not the first place you look). Leak either in the concrete slab or under my kitchen floor. Had to condemn (capped off) that pipe and now buying an induction hob as too expensive to get new gas pipe into brand new kitchen and new floor 🙁
The sniffer vibrates near presence of gas and homes in straight to leak with sound and visual, will save lots of time finding a leak, worth every penny
I found the gas leak inside the wall of the house, without this product I would have had to call a plumber, the money I saved on that easily paid for the detector and then some.
It does not have a motor to suck air through the detector but it works great, detects very small amounts of gas. It is well calibrated, does not show any false positives and it works very well outdoors too, to the pipes up to the house. The display is not digital, it just has 5 leds.

Used this meter to detect 5% hydrogen 95% nitrogen, worked great. It does have it’s limitations though, you have to verify that it’s set to the highest detection setting. After it finishes calibrating check that all the detection lights flash, not just some. The five minute time out is also frustrating, but overall worth the money.
Easy to use, responds quickly. Best feature is that the unit I bought also detects Hydrogen. Double check models – not all combustible gas detectors do this.

Ridgid truly makes some ridgid tools. This gas detector is no exception. I detected the gas leak from a quick release gas line connector and quickly replaced it.
Das Gert ist definitiv wertig gearbeitet und macht auch einen stabilen Eindruck.
Ich habe dieses Gert an Haushaltsgas getestet und bin zufrieden.
Mein dazu gerufener Installateur hatte ein sehr hnliches Gert was hnlich empfindlich war.
Man muss allerdings den Sensorarm mchtig biegen damit er in die Tasche passt, das erscheint mir auf dauer nicht gesund. Ich vermute das hier bei regelmiger Nutzung eine Materialermdung auftreten wird!

firstly, I am not a gas fitter, just a joe blogs. I bought this to check all the connection of my provence gas heater, (as it is recommended, on changing the gas cylinder, you check all connections). easy to follow instructions and it is easy to use. as a test, I didn’t light the pilot light, and just run it along the vent of the heat exchanger, and all of the lights lit up, the siren sounded and it vibrated in my hand. personally, I feel I can trust this product.

Easy to use, well built, but needs a hard case! It’s to easy to accidentally turn on in the soft case!

I have been smelling gas in my basement for months, I am handy enough to fix gas lines?pipes etc .. but I just did not have the time with so many gas pipes in my home ..with this tool I was able to find the leaks that I suspected in no time.it also detected areas I had no clue that were leaking. its so sensitive you can dial in detection as small as each fitting/connector . so you only need to fix the fittings that are leaking–iiiii love it!!!!!

I use this for my work as a home inspector. It quickly and easily allows me to verify gas leaks and track down their source. Very easy to use and is well built.

Arrived on time and have already used it to locate a natural gas leak. Worked great.
My nose isn’t very good. I got this to detect gasoline leaks in my old boat and truck. Does an excellent job. Also scoped my natural gas connections in the house including a leaking gas log in a fireplace. Will detect alcohol when held next to a glass of beer.
Only negative is the detection head insert last 5 years and costs $50 to replace.
Purchased this leak detector for commercial use. Each one of my technicians are now using this detector. It’s very accurate and can be used on the smallest gas leak. Great for all combustible gasses. Perfect for in home use.

I turned it on and let it calibrate. I then went to our basement. Near the bathroom closed door, it detected gas at 40 ppm! I opened the door, went into the bathroom and the sensor started climbing up to 160 ppm. I went around and the bathroom and other areas and sure enough the concentration was higher where the gas meter was. All other suspect places and pipes were showing little concentrations like just outside of the bathroom door.
So then I took my wife’s Windex and I started to spray all over and around the gas meter. Amazingly on one spot below a nut I saw a huge bubble forming! I took the Ridgid monitor to that spot and what do you know? >640 ppm in that spot. 640 is the max in the high sensitivity mode. I should have tried the low sensitivity mode to see how much more than 640 it was.
I got my tools, tightened the nut and the bubbles stopped. Soon after that the monitor registered 80 ppm there like in the rest of the bathroom.
I bet by tomorrow the gas smell will be history.
[Update. Next morning there is no gas smell and the sensor registers no gas]

Very High Quality unit – good instructions – worked right out of the box. This was much better built than my first unit. The flexible wand is very hand and reaches into small areas. This is a must have for anyone doing remodling.

Der Sensor verbraucht sich gem Hersteller nach ein paar Jahren. Der Wechselintervall soll gem Bedienungsanleitung angezeigt werden.
Kleiner Tip: wenn man die Sensorkappe abschraubt, sieht man einen gesteckten Gassensot, der fr ein paar Euro in der Bucht zu haben ist. Somit spart man sich das teure Einschicken zum Sensorwechsel.
Das Gert braucht ca 1 Minute nach dem Einschalten zwecks Kalibrierung, danach ist es betriebsbereit.
Ich wrde es mir wieder kaufen!
Super,il m'a permis de dcouvrir deux fuites pourtant inodores sur mon chauffe-eau ainsi qu une autre sur mon bbcue …indispensable afin de contrler ses installations la maison..

The only minor niggle I have is that it’s far too easy to switch the device by knocking the power button when it’s stored away. A lock button or similar would really improve the design. I just turn a battery the wrong way around to prevent this.

Reason for purchase: I’m not a professional but a homeowner and father who just switched over to Natural Gas.
I have the wall gas/fire alarm detectors but be warned the gas they detect is carbon Monoxide. That is not the same as a Natural Gas leak coming into the appliances or from leaking pipes. Unless it is in large amounts you don’t smell the chemical they add to natural gas.
So I had first purchased a very cheap plug in unit. For the price is worked just fine. Then began going off very often. I could not be sure if it was a leak again or just a defect. I know what a unit less then 30 bucks is not going to be the most precise. My families safety is worth the best.
First Impression; The Ridgid 36163 arrived today and I was very impressed with the quality of the unit. Very rugged and well built. I could see a professional using this daily. I was concerned at first that I was going to have to get into the weeds and learn how to use it. I have enough projects and programs I’m learning I don’t want to add another complicated device. WELL I can tell you if you can turn it on you can use it. Calibration is as simple as it gets. You have vibration on and off, high sensitivity and low, on and off sound alert, and thats all there is to it. I still have my cheap plug in unit. If it goes off I check with this unit.
Final thought; I would gladly recommend this to my friends and family.

Awesome product, it helped to detect and prove a gas leak from various areas outside from gas company. Averted a possible explosion potential and helped identify the source. Ridgid is a very reliable company and has reliable equipment. I highly recommend this product for gas detection.

Saved me quite a few times. Works well for sniffing for gas leaks during home inspections.
The product was simple to use (it was intuitive)and posed no additional hazards. It was supplied with four AA batteries, probe and the unit. Easy to assemble and operate. Tested the probe using a hand held lighter (not igniting the gas) and it went off in alarm mode. Removed it from gas source and the alarm mode decays away back to rest mode. The alarm was raised in three ways: Visually on the screen scale; Audioable alarm; and Vibration via the unit.
Using this, I checked the cooker, that did register one bar (small leak) at one of the connecting joints. Called the Gas Safe Technician back to rectify the fault. Re-tested the cooker after he left and a few times after that, its ok – no alarm raised.
The product felt of good quality, to hold and use, although the durability is to be tested still; I will post an update in the future. I paid 75 (including VAT & delivery), so based on the ease of use and price, it gets 5 stars, but I will deduct 1 star as it does not come with a storage case, and the probe is delicate/fragile. Would have been 5 stars if it came with protective case for a sensitive instrument.
