Used cordless battery strummers for years and this was as good a previous models used and the plastic blade option is very useful (actually strimmed my 10ft high 100m long hedge with it !

Strimmer works well with ample power for domestic use (Used half the power of 4Ah battery on reasonable sized Garden). Easy to handle and well balanced.
Package had slight damage when delivered and noticed date of manufacture week 24 2022 but all seems to work well.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWell first I bought the hedge trimmer Ryobi.
Now I bought this to replace my petrol multi tool.
Lightweight and easy to use and set up.I love how you can turn the head to trimm the edges as on the petrol this was not a option. It does a great job on the grass I don’t think I will ever go back to petrol after this.
Only one thing I would say is if your grass is neglected you might need to get it cut back first.

Replaced my 10 year old petrol strimmer, spending more time repairing and trying to start it
Easy to use, although not as powerful as the petrol version, line tends to tangle in spool, just as all machines appear to do. Battery life just about ok for my needs, but intend to get a bigger battery soon, and use original as back up

he trimmer has plenty of function and has low battery usage, my 2Ah battery was able to last the front garden edge trimming and rear garden and all the edge grass as well, i would say it has about 30 mins run time. also the tilting head is very useful as well as just having 1 line instead of 2 seem to work really well and reduces the amount of wire los

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI love the ease of working and the blades instead of cord. So easy to work, even I can do it. Nice and light for people with strength/joint issues. BUT if you have any weakness/arthritis/lack of grip, removing the battery to recharge is HELL. Incredibly tight. Need to do contortions to remove the battery from the strimmer for charging. To remove the battery from the charger is so easy and ‘light’. Just wish it was similar on the strimme

    I can’t fault the product….
    I’m a fan of Ryobi anyway, but it’s a good strimmer…..
To be fair, I needed it in a hurry, and rushed the ordering of the item, without doing the proper research……
It’s just not man enough for the job, but that’s my fault, and it is not down to the tool….
For light strumming and edging pathways it’s great….Long thick grass or big weeds less so……
My new garden is a jungle, and I’ve had to resort to hacking it down manually……
You can buy blades for this stimmer to replace the strimmer cord, which helps…..

Golden Review Award: 22 From Our UsersIt arrived yesterday (28th April 2023). I already have seven Ryobi tools plus four batteries including two 5.0aH. I “assembled it this morning in ten minutes. Carry handle is obvious but the shield took a little longer. As usual, the instructions were useless. Clipping the front projection into the slot is simple but the rear (with the screw) needs a powerful push downwards toward the screw hole. Once in place, hole and screw line up.

I have a large garden, an acre roughly with a lot of edges and awkward spots. I have completed most of the edges easily on one charge, even the thought grass still wet from dew. I strongly recommend buying, manufacturing or, in my case, altering a (petrol) strummer harness for use as a support. The lower back reminded me I needed one. So far, the line has been good enough to tackle even the toughest of weeds and the charge is still going strong. (NOTE – I am used to a powerful two-stroke petroleum trimmer which tackles the toughest the garden has BUT it’s power comes at a cost – noise. I usually wear a helmet with a face guard and ear protection. Although the face guard is prudent, I no longer require the ear protection. Ryobi is quiet. Neighbours will be pleased.

After a few week’s use, like all my other Ryobi kit, this is a great piece of kit. I was pleasantly surprised by how long the reel of plastic cutting thread actually lasted and by the size and type of plants with which it deals effectively. I have not tried recharging the reel with cutting twine but it looks very similar to my two-stroke. Changing to the plastic cutter blades, I noticed the increased vibrations but, once again, I was pleased by how simple it was to use and by how long they lasted.

    HIghly recommended.

I have now completed all the edges and rid the spinner of most of its tenacious weed and not yet had to change batteries or re-charge spools; not even sure how that is done but will find out soon; more anon.

One disappointing feature is the ubiquitous “Made in China” logo. What is wrong with British manufacturing? So many items purchased today have the same label (not revealed until after purchase) and surely no beyond British companies.

I am not able to report on longevity, battery charge, etc. My garden was growing so well, I just had to deal with it.

I use this strimmer for cutting rough grass and herbaceous vegetation around the garden. It is easy to use although it may prove to be a little heavy for some when used over long periods. This however, may indicate that the strimmer is robust and should therefor give long service.

Another Ryobi 1+ addition. A great strimmer, lightweight and easy to use. It came with a battery and charger but it does need a bigger battery, I have a couple of 4 & 5amp ones so churched one on, it’s awesome. Far better than my current petrol strimmer which has now been put to the back of the shed.

I purchased this to replace an old corded Flymo strimmer, So happy I purchased this, the Ryobi blows it out the water, so much power, tilting head and be able to turn the head are great features. If anything it probably has a little too much power as it blows dismembered blades of glass all over the garden, which is mildly annoying. It’s lightweight and nicely balanced. I’ve only used it for maybe 10 minutes so far but I’m massively impressed, I should have made the leap to cordless garden tools years ago. The battery holder is a very tight fit, and I had to give it a good shove to get it in. Potentially a weak point after a few months off being man handled.

  15. KindraAshburn says:

     United Kingdom

I have a collection of Ryobi One+ tools from about 10 years ago and have 3 batteries which are still going strong, so there was a strong cost incentive to go with this.

But the Amazon descriptions were baffling. I wanted a line strimmer as I do a lot of edging next to walls and I understand that the blades get destroyed by this. It was not very clear whether the line was included or whether it was an option and I relied on the Answers to work that out.

So, what you get is a fairly easy to assemble strimmer, which is a good thing as it comes with a completely baffling picture only instruction guide that only makes sense if you know what it is telling you.

A screwdriver is required. The adjustable width setting is simply rotating the line cutting blade to a different position, the guard remains in the same position, so not sure what the point of the 25cm setting is.

The length and angle of the strimmer is adjustable so easy to get it comfy, and the rotate button between edging and strimming is easy to use.

The line is a single line of standard 1.6mm nylon. An old 2.4mWH battery did a medium sized garden no problems with life to spare and plenty of oomf! No jams and when the line broke short it was easy enough to click the button a few times to extend the chord, though in normal use it extends when slowing down (you can hear a click when it happens) it is not one that needs a tap on the ground.

Reading the instructions, it is easy enough to swap the reel for blades, so if you want both then order the blade unit as well and you will have reel and blades – the base unit always includes the reel.

So, not quite the burly beast which was my 15 year old Ryobi petrol strimmer, but doesn’t require half an hour of sweat to start it! It strims nicely and is not as vicious when using it for edging, but still strims cleanly. No jams either, which is not a given (bitter memories of a Flymo strimmer where more time was spent untangling than strimming). Reasonably quiet, not too heavy, balanced and comfortable to use. If I was going into the jungle to do strimming I’d consider getting the blades, but for everyday garden use the line is fine.

My only niggle is that One+ batteries can be rascals to unclip on any of the devices, and here to unclip the battery, the natural place to hold the strimmer while trying to persuade the battery free is the start switch…

Like the adjustable pole, I sue it extended mostly as I am tall, the twist head edging feature works well, the cord extend button on the head is simple and never has got gummed up and the cassettes are easy to change. Shortening the pole makes it easier to store or transport. If it dies before me I would buy another one.

Brought this to do the edges and weeds around the garden got sick of using the petrol one for smaller jobs

I use a 1.5ah battery I use for my drill with this and it lasts from full use from both front and back garden and my back is quite big

After using it I thought I’d give it a go on the thicker weeds that come through the slabs I was quite surprised on how easy it cut through them being a battery powered motor but it didn’t struggle at all not as long as you hold the trigger before you attempt to cut as some people don’t let there strimmer come to speed before actually cutting

It’s quite light and easy to use obviously if you used a bigger battery it will add weight to the handle but I can easily use this one handed as I was on the phone texting once when using it

You can easily rotate the bottom to clean up the edges of your lawn and it does extend in 6’3 and on full length I seem to be fine using it

Definitely would recommend if you already own a ryobi tool as this doesn’t come with charger or battery

I left it a little while after buying this before reviewing, so I could pass on a real world review. I have had several strimmers over the years, all of them mains powered (never could justify going petrol). I would often not bother strimming the edges of my lawns every time I cut them, mostly because it was a faff to plug in the strimmer and drag the cable around etc., plus I always struggled with the auto-feed mechanisms.

All that has changed! As I own several Ryobi tools already it was a no-brainer to get the strimmer. As it so easy to slap in a battery and get stuck in, I find I’m doing it every time now. I also find the auto-feed mechanism works faultlessly. I’ve not had to re-thread a broken line once yet, and that always used to happen with my Flymo and mains-powered Ryobi ones.

I have genuine Ryobi 5.0 AH batteries, and I can strim all the edges of my fairly large lawns and then move the battery into my Ryobi leaf blower to tidy up, and I’ve rarely used more than half of the capacity.

    Highly recommended!

Bought this after getting fed up with my petrol strimmer not starting repeatedly. Decided to go for the Ryobi as I already had the batteries for my power tools. I expected it to be good enough, however the battery not only lasts for the whole job, but I have plenty of power remaining. Couple this with the adjustable head and lightweight design, I find that it arguably out performs my petrol strimmer in all areas except the most densely packed weeds.

    Excellent product and definitely recommend.

What did we do before cordless strimmers
It’s honestly so damn useful! Yes, you need to get the batteries, but they’re super cheap from eBay (I got a 5mah battery for like 18 and I can’t fault it for DIY use.) I have been building on the Ryobi One+ set for a while and have a fair few of their tools so if you have done the same then it’s a no brainier. You can adjust it all and get the positioning you want easily, it’s light weight and nimble. Perfect!

Bought to replace my petrol grass strimmer than left me with a hand injury when the pull start cable severely cut my left hand when it retracted. The air was blue 🙁

The Ryobi strimmer was easy to set up, does a great job with the grass and edges but may not be suitable for heavy brush cutting. Gone are the cables over your shoulder or starting petrol strimmers 🙂 Put a 5.0Ah battery on and you’ll have plenty of charge to strim your larger lawns.

So far I am impressed with this strimmer and it’s a good price if you already have other Ryobi battery’s and chargers Otherwise it’s expensive if just starting out buying the lot in one go.

So far this has been an excellent purchase, easy to use and much more powerful than my previous small corded Bosch strimmer. You could not use this as a heavy duty brush cutter but it is not supposed to be one. I have a small front and back garden and it does the job of strumming and edging with ease. I like the way it cuts out when you encounter a tough branch or if you try to strim the wall. I’ve not run out of power yet on an average 10 – 15 minutes run. It is really easy to handle and putting it together out of the box was a five minute task

Very light and easy to use. Used this on a large garden with a 4 Ah battery. About 30-40mins of strimming and battery had 1 bar left on display so wouldn’t do much more. Handled the work fine, I doesn’t have the same power as a 240V strimmer but the ease of use and not having to drag that extension cable around makes the ryobi strimmer a winner. Wish I’d bought one years ago!

Depending upon the amount of time/ size of garden you may need to consider buying an additional battery. Although the charge time is actually reasonable quick it’s frustrating to only finish 2/3rds of the job before the battery runs out. The battery does last approximately 20-30 minutes depending of continuous usage. All in all a good product.

Bought this specifically to do lawn edges as I have my own and sister-in-laws to deal with. It does a terrific job of that, you need to get the right angle when using to avoid marking the lawn surface, a couple of goes and you get the hang of it. For general purpose use it is very capable of doing lightweight work throughout the garden, it isn’t a brush cutter and shouldn’t be expected to do that type of heavy work. So far have found that battery life while using is good, I use 18v 6.0Ah batteries for this and a Ryobi hedge trimmer, great no cables to drag around the garden!!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI thought for quite a while as to could I justify buying a cordless strimer when I had a perfectly good corded one. Well anyway I decided to get this one as it’s a quality brand and all I can say is ‘why did I wait so long to buy one’. It’s so much quicker to do the job, no setting up extension reels, no making sure the lead isn’t in the way and could itself get cut, instead just pick it up and away. The battery recharges in no time (I think in 15 minutes) and your ready for the next time. One of the best purchases I’ve made. Oh and get the 6 spare strimmer reels and the same time.

The instructions for putting it together are slightly cryptic – pictograms with no descriptive text – but it’s reasonably straightforward.

Once assembled it works well. It’s a lightweight unit – more for trimming long grass than removing undergrowth – but works well. Unless I’ve missed something, you have to extend the filament manually by switching it off and pressing a button – unlike some units where you just bang them on the ground whilst they’re running. Did a good job though.

Ignore the pompous 1-star reviews from people who didn’t read the product description and then blame everyone else but themselves when they got exactly what they ordered and not what they wanted. It’s perfectly clear – this is a bare unit – no charger; no battery.

This is easy to use and lighweight enough to handle, however the cutting power is somewhat lacking compared to mains-wired or petrol versions. This is good for light edge and grass trimming tasks as is, however I found that with the addition of the Ryobi RAC155 Heavy Duty Blade and Disc this can be made useful for more challenging cutting tasks such as long grass and light brambles etc. If you need to cut thick undergrowth this is not the tool for you. Battery life seems pretty good.

Fantastic addition to my Ryobi 1+ Tools. IF you DO NOT have any other pieces of their kit then YOU MUST ORDER THE BATTERY AND CHARGER.
This is not clear on the description on the plus side if you haven’t already started using their kit you will be impressed.

No complaints, I use with my range of batteries and I have no issues whats so ever. I am likely going to change out the cord that it came with as it wears down quickly, but as expected.

Sturdy and well balanced when in use, with plenty of horsepower.

Easy to assemble and lightweight worked for a good 15-20 mins with the 1.5 battery but have another battery just incase for back up. Another tool in my growing collection of Ryobi one tools

I have tried a lot of strummers both with blades and reels. Normally the reels jam and you end up feeding by hand. This is far superior to anything I have had before. The tool is well weighted with the battery at the handle. You can actually stand up straight and use this unlike the Bosch. Cannot fault it so far.

This product is easy to use without the worry of a wire to watch out for. It is easily as efficient and effective as a corded type.

This is a very good product. things I liked the adjustable head is very useful for getting under low branches the height adjustment and head rotate are very easy. battery life is good I did 2 good sized gardens on one 5AH battery.
I did have trouble with the autofeed after a look online picked up a few tips which didn’t really help much but I thought lubricate the line. I took the line off the spool put it in a carrier bag with. a little talcum powder same as i do cycle inner tubes. shake it then fit to spool works perfectly. hope this is helpful.

What can I say Ryobi tools, efficient, quality tools with the game changer “One +” interchangeable batteries no more cables hooray, total freedom to move around the garden with the strimmer what an absolute blessing. I have a large garden and a 3 batteries one on the strimmer one for the lawnmower and one for my drill . My collection of Ryobi tools will be expanded that’s for sure I love the freedom they give you

I wish I had got a cordless Strimmer sooner. It’s so much more practical, no extension leads needed. Just plug in the battery and go. I managed to do 2 gardens, front and back and it still had charge left. It’s heavier than my corded Strimmer but not uncomfortably so.
I like how it has multiple angles and you can also adjust the height. It is also great for edging. Very happy with the purchase.

I used to use a petrol strimmer but decided to give this a go as I have number of other Ryobi tools and batteries.

The strimmer is very light and the adjustable height is a great feature. It only has one cord as the cutter so not designed for heavy strimming applications but does a good job.

I use either a 4ah or 5ah battery and 20minutes of medium strimming drops 1 bar on the 4ah battery.

For the price and the fact I no longer need to mess around with petrol and oil this is a great tool and would highly recommend it.

I bought mine through Amazon as ‘damaged packaging’ as it was cheaper and the only thing I noticed was the cellotap slightly damaged. The product itself was perfect inside.

Please note you do not get a battery but you do get 1 strimmer cord already installed.

Usually favour petrol engined toys but this is getting much more use than I was expecting. Always worth getting thi# out for a small job.

The trimmer works well and is reasonably priced until you more than double the price to get the battery and charger. This is ok if you already have Ryobi tools. Far more instruction is needed not just pictures. My first use I ended up with a back ache, I shortened the handle and stood upright and held the trimmer closer to my body, problem solved. With the handle set longer you hold the cutting head further out and leverage adds more strain to your back. I did rate this 3 stars but now think 4 stars is fairer.
